It's Tuesday and National Absinthe Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando for air travel...I'm heading to Florida to visit family. Tea today will be a Starbucks Latte, maybe two. Posting may be light for the rest of the week!
Reminder: 3/8 is International Women's Day... do what you like with the theme. Wear a perfume in honor of a woman who is important in your life or an important female historical figure, or wear a perfume by a female perfumer, or ? Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Ginsai Camellia Kutani Japanese Teapot ("This is beautiful Japanese teapot features camellia motifs beautifully appeared using the Ginsai, the Kutani ware technique by which five-color glaze applied over silver foil. This transparent and glossy glaze is complemented more beautifully by the gradient colors") is $75 at Musubi Kiln.
What a cool teapot–might have to peruse that kiln’s site later.
In Nicolai’s Poudre de Musc, which isn’t that powdery–enjoying the hawthorn and aldehydes.
Have a good visit Robin–hope you’ll be ocean adjacent!
I love that one!
Nope, not ocean adjacent! But it is in the high 70s (yay) and I am visiting my husband’s much beloved aunt and we had lovely Vietnamese food for dinner. All is well!
I love that teapot! Scent of the day is Mona di Orio’s Dojima, which I love so much. The house doesn’t appear to have a cdn site right now and that’s a shame. Trying hard to enjoy what I have anyway-I have a more than a lifetime amount at my disposal already.
Robin I hope your trip is amazing!
Carole, it’s not only the Canadian site that’s down. They are not in business for an indeterminate period of time; I don’t know why. Maybe someone else here has the scoop?
I believe they closed temporarily to do a rebrand. It seems they’re also discontinuing some perfumes in the process, but I don’t know which.
Interesting. I wonder what that means. Probably reformulating as well as rebranding.
Thank you Carole, and isn’t that teapot gorgeous?
Was wondering if MdO would make it, but I know nothing.
Hello.
Sotd is 2 out of 5 from the new Estee Lauder Legacy Collection.
Knowing Legacy – I had high, high hopes for this one because I have a profound love for the OG. This starts with blackcurrant cough drops. Loud and dominating. Then there is generic synthetic berries. Not the fresh, juicy type too. Finally, maybe, a hint of Knowing, but the beautiful mossy-rose is not there. Just a shadow of her former self. Imagine a young teenage girl putting on very heavy make-up that covers up the beautiful features that she inherited from her mother. You wouldn’t recognize her for who she is but if you look hard enough, maybe, just maybe, you could. I am sad.
Private Collection Legacy – Your herb garden is in full bloom, everything is lush and green, ready for harvest. You decide to head out to pick some herbs for a Summer salad or pasta. Wait! You need a scent of the day! You reach for your bottle of Private Collection. Yes, that will do very nicely. You, basket in hand, head out to pick the freshest, greenest, bouquet of basil and tarragon, and immediately, their scent, together with your perfume, fill the air around you. Oh, what an unexpected joyful combination! Perfect for Spring/Summer.
happy888cat, your description of both is spot on!
Totally agree on both. I found the White Linen Legacy to be an exact match for Chanel No 22 and Estee Legacy is a version of No 5, though I can’t figure out which (maybe EDT).
I’m not familiar with Knowing, but your description of Knowing Legacy made me sad!
Your description of Knowing Legacy doesn’t surprise me in the least. The original was a genuinely great chypre, one of the finest scents to come out of the eighties, and I knew they wouldn’t even try to replicate it, despite all the promotion bumf. What a shame, and what a waste.
Knowing Legacy was just so “Meh”. Really disappointing.
I’m wearing Chamade, which will hopefully make up for a cloudy, gloomy, but warm day.
Chamade is so perfect for the spring, isn’t it?
That is the most beautiful teapot and in “my” colors, too. It’s not even way out of my budget, just slightly. 😀
I’m in L’Artisan Dzing! today for the CP (perfumer is Olivia G.). Gorgeous morning here in Seattle. Think I’ll take a walk later. Yoga now.
I want to include a Giacobetti, as I love her work, and Dzing! is one of my favourites!
She is definitely a favorite of mine!
House twin! I almost chose Dzing!, but went with Dzongkha. You smell great.
You smell great!!
Safe and happy travels, Robin!
Wearing Dame Perfumery Strawberry Fool. On my skin, this is strawberry scented nail polish remover. After trying 3 times, I am done with it. To the goodbye pile, it goes.
I will spray on Chanel 31 Rue Cambon, EdT, after lunch.
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
I didn’t care for it either. It reminded me of the strawberry shortcake doll with the plastic smell.
I was having high hopes, but I am very disappointed. Money saved!
That sounds dreadful!
It might work for others, but it definitely doesn’t agree with my skin.
Oh, so glad to hear a review on Strawberry Fool. Now I don’t have to try it😂
I thought it was going to be a cheerful, summery fruity scent. Far from it!
“Strawberry scented nail polish remover”?
Ew. Just ew. 🤢
Thank you!
And props to you for giving it 3 shots.
Gorgeous tea pot. I have too many and have bought one or two just from pictures here. I wish I could give more teapots as gifts, tehy are lovely and practical.
I am sticking with 2 teapots, but I do love looking for the teapot pictures 🙂
Big fan of Musubi Kiln here – I have been gifted some very nice bowls, plates, and sweet tea cups over the years. Their packaging is also lovely. Tempted by that teapot (as opposed to a tempest in a teapot…)
Finished off my venerable bottle of MH Tangerine Vert for the CP today. Suits the springy weather.
Wishing you uneventful travels, Robin.
Are their products dishwasher or microwave safe?
Everything I have is safe for both. Some things might not be. They do clearly indicate on each product page whether it is or not.
(I took a look at the page for the teapot Robin posrted above and it is *not* dishwasher or micro safe.)
I was going to say…whatever they say, I would not put a teapot with a finish like that in a dishwasher!
You smell great and ahaha -> “Tempted by that teapot (as opposed to a tempest in a teapot…)”
I do, don’t I?
😀
Wearing Iris Silver Mist today because I haven’t worn it in forever. It’s gonna be around 70 today with some thunderstorms coming this afternoon.
You smell fabulous!
Seconding that you smell fabulous!
I wish you safe travels and a great time with your family!
I’m joining the list of fans admiring today’s teapot. I have too many already.
There are too many perfumes that will fit this week’s project, so it will be difficult to choose, but I absolutely wanted to include a Grojsman creation. She has made some of my most worn perfumes and is the perfumer who created my much loved Paris YSL.
Today I’m wearing Bvlgari Pour Femme, which she cocreated with Nathalie Lorson, so I get two female perfumers for one fragrance, plus the name fits.
I’m definitely wearing Grojsman on Friday. I love so many of her creations.
Which of the Grojsman fragrances is your favourite?
Thank you!
Have a great trip Robin.
I love that teapot too, but have so many.
I decided to wear Germaine Cellier creations this week and I start with Fracas.
She probably was the trailblazer, wasn’t she?
Great idea.
Have a wonderful trip, Robin!
Wearing Olivia Giacobetti’s Passage d’Enfer today. I’ve always been curious about the Extrême version to see if it lasts longer.
Many many moons ago, I definitely preferred the regular but the Extreme did last longer.
But so long ago that it probably isn’t relevant now.
Very cute teapot. Inspired by Happy888cat, retesting Estee Lauder Legacy Estee and Private Collection. Estee Legacy smells a lot like No 5 to me . The White Linen Legacy smells just like No 22.
I like White Linen Legacy more than I liked No. 22.
That’s a gorgeous teapot. Robin, I hope you have a safe and smooth trip.
I chose Dzongkha for today’s scent. It’s a pensive day – I’m sitting with my feelings of ambivalence about meeting my family in San Diego next month. I love them and don’t get to see them often, but it’s hard to be around them for extended periods. It’s taken me almost 50 years to be able to identify and acknowledge what I’m feeling. Hopefully it won’t take another 50 to develop the self-care skills required to deal with everything!
Hi sistine – I feel like I haven’t seen you for a while. I hope your visit with your family goes well. San Diego is so nice, maybe the chill atmosphere will help everyone.
… and you can meet up with a perfume friend, or two …
I hope your visit goes well.
I hope it goes okay, and you can escape the vortex for peaceful moments.
Hope your visit goes smoothly and gives you minimal upset. You smell lovely!
You smell wonderful. And I totally understand your ambivalence about spending extended time with family. Unfortunately when you live far away, multi day visits are inevitable and very hard on the system. Hoping it goes as well as possible for you.
I understand feeling apprehensive about family visits, especially if some of the people involved are difficult or highly opinionated. Best of luck in keeping your cool!
Oh, that’s so hard. Wishing you peace of mind no matter how it goes.
SOTM is Prada L’Eau Ambrée, which was composed by Daniela Andrier. Lovely, slightly fizzy amber/iris.
You smell lovely.
That’s a pretty one.
Have a happy trip, Robin.
It s cold here and I’m wearing VCA Orchidee Vanille ( Randa Hammami).
Last night town was full of fans for a Pink concert, so glimpses of pink hair everywhere and lots of kids in full-pink. It was terrible weather, a fierce southerly blowing through with rain. Winter weather. I am one of those people who know who she is without being able to name a single song ( same with Taylor Swift) so didn’t go.
Love your scent and love your remarks about Pink and Taylor Swift!
Two of my colleagues would not believe that I didn’t know a single song of either Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran. I’m actually only aware of their existence because I saw them on Graham Norton’s show.
I love his show! He’s the best chat host and seems to be an all around lovely man. I don’t know any of their songs and the only reason I know about any of them at all is because I am inundated with names and photos in the general media.
I adore Graham, he combines a razor sharp wit, with such warmth. And I agree, his is the best chat show.
He’s written a couple of novels as well, most with an Irish setting
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/sep/11/forever-home-by-graham-norton-review-effortlessly-readable?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I haven’t read them
Thanks for that link! I was aware he had written at least one book, but not several.
I haven’t read any of his works either. I am kind of curious about David Walliams childrens books. He has made quite a career out of that.
Don’t know any Taylor Swift or Pink songs, but I do know one from Ed Sheeran. 🙌🏻 Ha, I don’t know how anyone could escape “Shape of You,” lol!
Thank you! Just had this conversation with my son recently, he was flabbergasted that I could not identify Taylor Swift’s voice.
I hate to admit it as I did not know a single song from either one of them either, but now have listened to about a half dozen of Taylor Swift’s and I have to admit I liked some of them.
There was one Pink song back in the day that was so ubiquitous that even I knew what it was. (“Get The Party Started”). Been a while since I’ve heard anything of hers on the radio.
OTOH, there is now a heavy metal cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” that I am hearing quite a bit. Not bad.
Oh, I forgot about Get The Party Started.
That teapot is gorgeous! I don’t yet have a collection of teapots but if and when I do, this would be one of the first I will purchase. I wish there were matching tea cups (yes, I looked). I have ordered from Musubi Kiln before and it is a top-notch company!
SOTD = Papillon Spell 125
Seriously another one I need to wear more often!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C4JBqmfOT84/?igsh=MTRsOGNzeGRuNWlucA==
Time was when I impulsively bought items for which I have no discernible “need”. Now I stop and think. One of the impulse buys was a mini elephant purse from Loewe. Today, in the NYTimes, a saw a picture of a Loewe Paris fashion runway and the spread showed a woman wearing a dress with wings coming off the waist to hips area and the front view is a two-toned grassy area with a dog front and center. The dog is not even cute. There is no accounting for taste and you have to pay me to wear it! As one commenter wrote – “These clothes make me feel smart. I didn’t buy them.” 🤣
I saw that dress! Was it you who mentioned Keith Haring? MOMA has line of bags with his designs now~
https://store.moma.org/products/keith-haring-baggu-recycled-cotton-horizontal-zip-duck-bag
That be me 🤣! The bags have cute designs.
These bags are adorable and so inexpensive.
You smell great!
Thanks!
IIRC, there was quite the commotion here when Spell 125 came out.
I’m wearing Frassai Victoria today, perfect for the CP.
Safe travels to you, Robin. I hope the lattes help!
Thanks tulipani, and lattes are a treat for me so they did make the airplane travel more palatable 🙂
I hope you have an enjoyable trip, Robin!
I am wearing Ginger Biscuit while trying to decide what to have for breakfast. I should eat a banana before it goes totally black but I am not in the mood this morning. What I really want is a McMuffin!
Just picked up a package of Canadian bacon yesterday with that exact thought in mind. We’re have full on sunshine just north of you so I hope you’re getting it, too. ☀️
I have not had a McMuffin in years, but gosh I did love them and just reading the name brought the taste right into my brain, ha!
Chanel No 18 and a cup of Ginberbread Joy tea.
Good morning! It’s suddenly very autumnal here, but the forecast is for a sunny day.
I’m very excited to have a hair appointment tonight, what with my stylist breaking her arm and my mother doing the same, getting a haircut has been tricky. I wear my hair very short, so after an extra month I feel like a yeti.
I’m wearing Olivia Giacobetti’s Hiris today.
Another one in my collection I didn’t know about! Thanks! And enjoy that haircut!
I would love to see your hairstyle, I am thinking about going very short again. Enjoy!
Hard to picture you as a yeti! I hope you had a good time in Sydney and also that your mum is doing well.
You smell elegant. I hope you will be happy with your haircut! I wear my hair fairly short, but the last one who cut it did a short pixie instead of a longer one as requested. As in super-short. I haven’t had a cut since July! I’ve had such a hard time finding a stylist who can work with my hair.
Robin, I hope you’re able to laze around on the beach or poolside with a lovely cocktail (or beverage of choice) while easing into full relaxation mode. ✈️🌴🍹
I’m wearing Nicolai Vetyver which I sprayed last night before bedtime. I will probably pick another scent a bit later. I really like this CP and I have plenty of fragrances that I KNOW were created by women, but I need to look up many others because I really don’t keep track perfumers.
The sun is out in all its glory and it looks like it may be out for most of the day! Wheee! Long walk is due after I finish my coffee.
I’m another fan of that teapot, and the reasonable price. The incongruity of its humble shape and stellar glaze is what hooked me. I rarely drink hot tea other than occasional Celestial Seasonings which most tea aficionados would claim is not tea at all but a poor facsimile. Alas, I’m very low brow. If I had room, I might have a teapot collection because really, some of them are straight up art.
FWIW, I figure enjoying tea is like enjoying perfume. You like what you like, so have at it!
Thanks Deva! Hope you had a lovely long walk in the sun.
How exciting Robin, safe travels.
Clementine, pear and yogurt smoothie
It was a day spent in Diorella and thoroughly enjoyable, I have a pristine 100ml spray bottle, so should choose it more ofte. Tonight it’s my other favorite vanilla, Laura Mercier Eau gourmande Vanillé, a baking vanilla, just the right sweetness.
the clemmies are good this year.
I think I will go downstairs and grab a few!
Hope you enjoyed them.
My bottle is in the hounds tooth bottle, so I know it’s old.
And they were such cool bottles!
Diorella might be a really good 3-season perfume for your climate.
Yes, the only time not suited would be winter.
Piling on with the teapot love — need to check that website out.
I’m in La Curie Ossuary today, celebrating independent female perfumers.
Have a great trip, Robin!
Thank you ockeghem!
Love that teapot, green is my favorite color. But alas I already have too many and never use the ones I have. Instead I prefer to make my tea directly in a large ceramic bowl. 🙂
Iris Torréfié was so good yesterday I am having another round today. For Friday I am planning to wear a 4160 Tuesdays scent to celebrate Sarah McCartney.
Favorite color twins 💚
Perfume repeat twins!
Enjoy your visit Robin.
We just had a new Dillard’s open, so I had to go take a look at the perfume section. I tried Parfum de Marly Delina. I found it to be beautiful, but question if it is really worth the $375 price. Curious what others think and is there anything similar to this?
Back in Shalimar MI today, but getting ready to put it away soon to make room for spring scents.
I’m very surprised Dillards carry that brand. I think calypso is a big fan of Delina. But, yeah, $375…!🫣
I just wore Delina yesterday, the bottle of which I got at the NYC lower Manhattan boutique. I got the bottle 5 years ago and don’t remember it being $375. Anyway, I have since bought 2 men’s fragrance but I am still happiest with Delina. I also cannot think of what is similar to it off the top of my head.
Thanks. I did find it lovely, but that is quite expensive.
Dillard’s + Delina = a bit of a headscratcher, for sure. 🤔
I was kind of surprised too, but they had several from Parfums de Marly. Since they just opened, I wonder if they see what will sell and if it doesn’t then they will replace with something else. They said they have several perfumes that have not come in yet. There really weren’t any others that can’t be purchased at our local Macy’s.
Yes, the teapot is beautiful!
Volutes edt and edp today.
That’s such a good one. You smell fabulous! 🙂
thank you!
Do you prefer the edt or the edp? I’ve only tried the old edt, I have a travel spray, and I’m curious about the edp.
Big day in my little perfume world – I’m wearing a couple of precious drops of vintage Opium Parfum. My first time. It’s not familiar to me, iconic as it is, so I guess our paths never crossed these past forty-seven years.
I’m not writer enough to describe it adequately, so I’ll point to Angela’s fabulous review (on this site) which captures pretty much everything I’m feeling about it.
I’ll only add that for a powerhouse fragrance marketed to women, it suits my middle-aged male skin beautifully. What a treat!
I’ll bet it does suit you wonderfully Ah, I still miss reading Angela’s posts here.
I still marvel at the brilliance of the writing on this site!
Yes!
Oh, I bet that Opium Parfum is beyond amazing. Lucky you!
I finished off my sample of Aftelier Sepia today. This is a little oddball of a perfume. It smells very funky and earthy. It’s an interesting perfume but not one of hers that I need more of.
We’re having a gorgeous sunny day though it is still quite chilly. The sun is so cheering so I’ll take it.
It’s been a while since someone has mentioned anything from Aftelier besides Ancient Resins.
I actually have a bottle of Honey Blossom and a couple minis that I haven’t worn in forever. So thanks for the idea to wear more Aftelier!
Trying Giardini Di Toscana Blu Indaco today. Powdery almond, citrus and vanilla blend. Nicely done. Folks on Fragrantica find it similar to L’Instant Magic and I can see that.
I profess to not wanting more fragrances yet I keep sampling new things…sampling is kind of an odd choice to achieve that end, no? 😂
Well, I did that for years before I sort of lost my interest in trying quite so many new things I was never going to buy.
Neroli Plein Sud from a sample
Has anyone else smelled this one? Thoughts?
Finally finished that Sarah Maas book..wooooweee
I have really busy with the library-the best kind of busy
That must be the best kind of busy, I’m glad.
Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Both Sides of Clouds.
https://youtu.be/Tm3yrjwaRLo?feature=shared
I always think of this scene when I see your sotd.
Sigh, I miss that show. Thanks for the reminder!
One of my absolute favorites. I burst into tears the first time I saw this episode.
Wasn’t that a great show!
And Jon Hamm!😍
More teapot love here, it’s just so pretty.
Wearing DSH Inner Sanctum again, just one small spritz since I had another doctor’s appointment this morning. Time for some Paloma Picasso for this evening.
Have a wonderful time, Robin, full of sunshine, seafood and family.
It’s been a while since PP was mentioned, you smell superb.
Thanks ringthing!
I too love today’s teapot. My favorite tea discovery on my current tea kick is unsmoked lapsang souchong. I did not know such a thing existed! I like the smoked kind too, which I thought *is* “lapsang souchong.” I continue to experience more of what makes tea so popular. No CP points for SotD, just a few spritzes from a sample of Ubar, which I have really enjoyed. Sigh, another discontinued treasure!
I did not know that unsmoked lapsang souchong existed, either! I have a bit of the smoky lapsang for when I am feeling really sick.
Well I did not know it existed either, and I thought smoked was part of the definition. You learn something new every day, right?
Robin, I hope you have a safe trip and relaxing vacation! I love the color green, too, and am adding to the love for today’s teapot. I declare it a winner!
Was commando this morning for a dental cleaning. This afternoon, one of my comfort faves: Kenzo Amour Indian Holi. Tea to sort-of match is Republic of Tea Vanilla Almond. Not fancy, but it hit the spot.
No unfortunate surprises at the dentist?
No, thanks for asking! 🙂 Just a cleaning.
Yay!
Thanks AnnE!
Hey Robin, hope you’ll soon be dipping your toes into warm ocean water without too many crocodiles.
I had saved a sample vial of CP compliant Majda Bekkali Fusion Sacree Clair for this morning and clean skin and blithely sprayed some on this morning, only to realize I’d confused it with her Tendre est La Nuit which I’d tried once and really liked. All too quickly I realized that Fusion Sacre contained tuberose, a Cryptonite note my skin just cannot do. It’s still going strong 7 hours later, alas. Welp, someone will get the last of the vial in the next swap I do. Objectively, I can see that it’s pretty and well-made. But subjectively, nope.
Not at the ocean, but also no crocodiles, so that’s a bonus 🙂
Sorry for your long day of tuberose!
That teapot is probably one of my favorites of all those you have posted, Robin. I hope that your flights are boring with no delays or other issues. Enjoy the family time.
So I have an update on the Macy’s order I was griping about earlier. I got in touch with their Customer Service and found out the item I hadn’t received was still in transit and due to arrive today. Sure enough, it showed up late this morning. All’s well that ends well.
I am sending these happy “situation resolved” vibes to Deva in the hopes that her tag(s) will show up soon.
A chilly and cloudy day here. Bleah. Some kind of precipitation is in the forecast for later on this week. But I will believe it when I see it.
SOTD = back in JM Myrrh & Tonka. And wool socks.
Glad you received your package!
Me too.
I kind of like being able to text Customer Service instead of being stuck on the phone and pressing numbers to get to someone who can help me.
Flight had a delay but I had good reading material and it could be WAY worse 🙂
Fall is back in town here. Cold and rainy. I am wearing Cuir Impertinent by Mugler.
Not feeling like Spring here either. 🥶
