Hey, it's March, which means it's National Procrastination Week. We're here to help with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite fragrance to wear while you avoid doing what needs doing, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Oops…and meant to say, RIP Iris Apfel.

Style ICON!
I mean, how many people could wear those glasses and look as if they were born with them on?
Wow, teaching at a university at 90! Now that (to me) is even more impressive than modeling at 97. What an icon.
I remember reading somewhere that she said she only wore one perfume, Yatagan.♥️
Iris Apfel’s zest for life always made me smile.
I have to tell my mom about Iris Apfel, she’s a big admirer.
Wearing Angel Muse because Robin mentioned it yesterday and it sounded good. It smells cozy and delicious.
My perfume for avoidance? Really, all of them. I try not to procrastinate but some things, like taxes and house cleaning, I can put off for ages.
Taxes are the worst!
In vintage Parfum d’Hermès extrait because I wanted to smell rich and haughty. It might actually be my favourite scent ever.
Bath and Body Works has all their moisturizers on sale for $5.95 (CAD) and I’ve never bought anything there but it’s been a long dry winter so I figured I might as well check it out. I smelled every single one of the men’s body creams, and kudos to the company for even acknowledging that men get dry skin that requires heavy-duty hydration, but 1) they all smell really similar and 2) they’re not very good. I did find a few other ones that seemed okay (surely you can’t go wrong with Warm Vanilla Sugar), and at that price, what’s the harm?
Did you smell any of the laundry soap?
Didn’t even notice it! The store is just overwhelming. I made a beeline for the sections that have the body creams and even that was a lot. Thank goodness they have sinks and running water because I picked up a product and got my hand covered in some kind of goop.
You’re not alone in finding their stores overwhelming.
$5.95 sounds like a decent deal, but even that is unlikely to get me into a BBW store. I think I’m hugely in the minority, but I’ve never walked in because because every time I walk past I get hit by a wall of rancid, discordant chemical smells. I have the same issue with those mall candle stores — Yankee Candle? I can handle Lush, though. I think it’s just my nose.
You are not in the minority. I can’t handle their candles either. I’m always tempted by Lush because all the great packaging, colors, et., but I always regret walking into the store.
Nah, I really don’t blame you. It’s a lot. The mall has a Lush next to the BBW and then close by a Saje (essential oils that they are always vaporizing into the air) and a couple of doors down from that a Body Shop across from a Sephora. It’s kind of overwhelming. I hardly ever go into any of these places — I usually just hustle past.
Oh yeah, we have Saje on this coast, too. And then Muji with their vaporizers, as well! It is a lot. It’s really only BBW and the candle store that make me run; I can tolerate Lush but it’s hard to really test anything in store.
You smell wonderful. I adore Parfum d’Hermes, though I do prefer the EdT to the parfum! I decided to wear it today myself.
Beauty news, I bought a new bronzer-I have always wanted to try the terracotta one by Guerlain. I have too many bronzers now lol
The lady mentioned to me-I have no samples to give before I even asked! omg
Reading the new Sarah J Maas book from the Crescent City series and I have to say I do not like this one at all. I find some parts repetitive, boring, it’s too violent in some parts. I thought I would never say anything bad about her as an author, but we will see if it turns around in the last 200 pages of a 800+ page book…

How’s the bronzer? And if you have many, what is your fav?
Oooo! Let me make a list.
Your sample request reputation precedes you! 😀
Robin mentioned Sigurd Nunez the other week in the reading roundup and I’m reading The Vulnerabkes at the moment which is set in Manhattan. It’s during lockdown period, really well written, lots of digressions and character-based. It reminds me a bit of those Lucy Barton novels in tone. But if you want a good book, I recommend it. I will hunt out more by her.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/jan/17/the-vulnerables-by-sigrid-nunez-review-animal-magic-in-manhattan?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I liked all 4 of the books by her that I read so far, she is really engrossing and she seems to stick to short works, almost novella length.
Thanks !!
In Amouage Blossom Love. Another scent from the brand that it doesn’t work for me no matter how many times I try it. To the goodbye pile, it goes.
Dark and rainy day, so no plans to go outside at all. I will continue with my declutering task this weekend (no procrastination for me). I have the last two boxes of shoes ready to be dropped at Goodwill. Now, I am going thru the dinnerware sets and also the many single mugs, most of them received as presents over the years. That’s going to be a very good and rewarding purge!
Coffee and two avocado toast to start the day!
Happy weekend! 🌞
I read your comment yesterday and Amouage is one of those houses that doesn’t work for me either. The perfumes wear me.
Love a good purge! Happy Saturday.🌞
Thank you, Madtowngirl!🌞
There is something on most of the Amouage scents, a scratchy note(s) that put me off all the time. Definitely, it is not a brand for me.
There are SO MANY Amouages! I have not kept up at all and had no idea Blossom Love existed. I’ve been okay with all the Amouages I’ve smelled but I think they must all be older ones (Jubilation 25, Gold, Lyric, Epic).
Very few have worked for me, mostly their “classics” and the ones from the Library collection. The rest that I have tried so far have been scrubbers on me. Money saved!
Avocado twins.
I have Opus III, a retro scent, not a typical Amouage, and Gold because years ago there was a sale of 30ml atomisers, $29.99, I did a bit of research and it’s an older formulation of Gold. I also have Dia, love that one, have you tried it? it’s an Ellena, in his style.
I have tried Dia, Gold, and Opus III. They are nice and some of the few I like from Amouage.
I also like Gold. And a few of their incense-heavy scents like Interlude Man, Jubilation 25, and Jubilation XXV.
I love Jubilation 25! I don’t remember if I have tried Jubilation XXV or Interlude Man. I will check my Amouage box to see if I have samples.
I have only tried a few of their scents. The only one I know for sure that I did like was Dia.
I agree. Dia is a great scent!
I’m in La Flaneuse from Beauty Pie, which is their version of Santal 33, only softer and a bit more soapy.
Yesterday was the last day of my Whole30 challenge.🎉 Today after my morning barre class I headed right across the street for a vanilla latte. Mmm, I’ve missed them. I managed to shave off a few pounds and this morning I was down to -as one of my girlfriends used to say- my fighting weight. The biggest change I’ve noticed is that my gallbladder is bothering me less. I’m guessing it was the elimination of dairy, which is a bummer because I love cheese. And whole milk. I’ve known for about 10 years that I’ve had stones but they’ve only started to bother me in the last few. My pcp referrred me to general surgery when I had my checkup in January. Her advice was to get it out under a controlled situation rather than an emergent one. Both my parents had theirs removed after trips to the ER (in the span of 6 months!) so the genetics were not stacked in my favor.😞
Heartily recommend having it removed. Personal experience has proved to me that I was a fool for not getting mine out because “it doesn’t bother me.” I won’t go I to the whole saga, but it went south very quickly and I’m lucky I didn’t die of septic shock. It wasn’t fun, and ultimately they had to do a sub-total because of so much scar tissue and inflammation. I would get it done before it becomes emergent. My 2 cents.
Oh gosh, septic shock!😱 I certainly don’t want that to happen! Thanks for sharing, you’ve motivated me to at least get the consult scheduled. I’ve been dragging my feet because I’ve never had any kind of surgery in my life (beside wisdom teeth removal) so I’m a bit nervous.😰
Consultation is a great step! I’m not a fan of surgery either, only had one in my life to correct some congenital heart issues when I was 13. A lap-chole is quick, usually simple and easy, and the risk/benefit ratio is so skewed to “benefit” it’s crazy. Ask around your hospital to see which surgeon the PACU nurses like. They are in the know. I went in blind but luckily had a fabulous experience because my surgeon was the bomb. He even called twice in the middle of the night to check on me, per the nurses. I felt like a winner even though he gave me a stern talking to about waiting so long…the recovery was not bad at all and I had a JP drain for a few days, which you most likely will it have to worry about. I was up and walking the halls with my disposable SCD’s on that night. 😀In fact, I still have pain meds I never used left over. You can do it! You work hard to be healthy, this is just another step along that path. Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now. Go get ‘em! 💪
My sister had hers taken out laparoscopically within a few months when it started to act up. She flew out to Portland, OR where my brother practices. One of his partners did it.
Yeah, my doc said laparoscopic. In and out the same day. Nervous about it anyway, and the recovery.
My Mom had to have her gall bladder taken out under less than desirable circumstances. She was miserable. I wouldn’t want anyone (OK, almost anyone) to go thru that.
My parents too. It was amazing the different care they got because it happened to them in different parts of the country. Fortunately I am in a city known for its good healthcare.🤞
I am wearing vintage Dune extrait found by my daughter the other day at an antique market, smells out of this world.
At home all day with some boring chores!! will go out to dinner to a friends house later.
It’s “nuit blanche” here tonight, all the museums and metro open all night!!
Good lord, you smell amazing!
Oh my gosh, what a find!🤩
Oh, that’s a wonderful buy!
Lucky you! That stuff was amazing. Still is, for you.
Wonderful find.
Wow! Excellent shopping by your daughter.
Congrats on your vintage Dune!
Did more small jobs around the house this morning before I head to work. Wearing Deneuve edt today.
You get an enabler pin for your heads-up on the Chanel perfume price increases. I decided to get a small bottle of Coco EdP sooner rather than later.
Is it all of them? I thought it was just the exclucifs.
My understanding was the Exclusifs had a larger price increase than the “rank and file” Chanels. But everything was going up.
Good to know. Thanks.
Happy weekend!
It seems that spring is settling in here, it’s been 13°C today so a bike ride was due to happen.
I’m getting ready for my departure to Milan on Monday.

Have a wonderful time and please report back.
Wearing Fils de Joie which is perfect for this autumn-esque Sunday morning. The students have all arrived back for the start of the university year and I noticed, yesterday, how they all seem to wear the same outfits: slightly cropped white sleeveless tank/ t shirt, wide jeans, white sneakers. And big tote bag. There was little variation and I think it may have stood out a bit more than usual as I had watched the old Mike Leigh movie Career Girls last week…set during the headband, asymmetrical haircut, punk T-shirt, short skirt and dr martens period of the late 80s/ 90s. Kind of made today’s students look even more conservative by comparison.
I miss the asymmetrical hair cuts and Docs. 🙂 I noticed something similar watching the tweens / teens coming in and out of the orthodontist’s office yesterday. Ockeghem Teen dresses differently (no wide jeans), but I suspect this is because she doesn’t care about clothes and just wears what I buy her.
I will be 71 and still wear my Docs.
Hear hear!!
Talk about an icon! 🤩 I think you must have that “I didn’t even try” style that’s so awesome! Rock on!
Well I did get my nose pierced at 70, so there’s that.
Yes! I am 48 and have a ridiculous collection. I’ll be wearing my Docs in my 70s, too!
Interesting observations. I vividly recall how during the anti-war, hippie, “free spirit” early 1970’s, all of the girls on my campus (large Midwestern state university) all dressed exactly the same: long straight hair, huge bellbottom jeans, sweaters with long bead necklaces, and pea coats. It was absolutely the most conformist clothes environment I’ve been in–well except maybe for philosophy conferences in the late 1970’s and for a few decades after. You absolutely could only wear black or gray and WOE TO YOU if you wore any pastel!! Lol!
I still have my fringe jacket purchased at Different Drummer on Lexington Avenue in 1968.
I am rather amused seeing the return of 90’s style baggy jeans.
Wearing Naja today by Vero Kern.
The sun is actually out, but it’s cold and windy. Nevertheless, I’m happy to see it and so are my solar panels! ☀️We’ll see how long it lasts.
Alas, my tag didn’t arrive so I’m afraid it’s lost somewhere in the US mail system, never to be found.
Just saw a good video on how to remove 80% of micro and nano-plastics from water. From a reputable source, so no witchcraft involved. 🙃 Of course, this doesn’t remove it from food, meat, etc. Anyway, it’s counterintuitive but easy to do, and apparently there is nowhere on earth these days that plastics aren’t ubiquitous and proliferating. I linked it below for those interested.

I’m not happy with USPS right now — I mailed 30 invitations two weeks ago, envelopes arranged in zip code order, stamps and addresses triple-checked, and three of those 30 have not been received. I put them into the box in front of our USPS branch myself, and two of the missing three were LOCAL — should have taken at most two days to arrive. All had properly formatted return addresses in the correct place, too.
I am often awestruck by how well the postal system can and often does work, and our local posties are really wonderful — but a 10% failure rate is not good.
Yes, it can be very frustrating. I hope those three invites surface sooner rather than later.
My father sent me a check for Ockeghem Teen’s Christmas gift on January 6. It has never turned up in Canada. I also ordered from Arielle Shoshana a week ago, and normally I get their packages at my U.S. mailbox within 2 or 3 days, but this one is still stuck somewhere in the Midwest, a week after they sent it. That said, I also ordered a sample pack from the UK, and it’s been sitting in a FedEx facility there for a week, as well. All the mail seems to be screwed up right now.
One thing that I have found as I’ve traveled along is that a lot of times the package didn’t get scanned when it was sent on the next leg of its journey. That makes it look like it’s sitting in one place for days. Unfortunately, that is sometimes accurate but many times I’ve had packages show up that hadn’t been scanned prior to being sent on the last leg. The tracking info is only as accurate as the humans who enter it. 🤷🏻♀️
Look at the absolute bananas tracking for this package that’s just trying to get from NJ to Buffalo 😕
9400108205498675855813
Omg, that IS crazy! The package is taking the long way home. 🫠
I am currently annoyed with UPS. I ordered 2 sets of pillowcases from Macy’s at the end of February. Only 1 set showed up in the package, even though both sets have the same tracking number. Why didn’t they pack them together???
FFS.
Probably shouldn’t blame the carrier for something that Macy’s did, though.
I know! Crazy! What drives me nuts is that if I order something online, I can’t have it sent directly to me, wherever I happen to be. It has to go to my mail forwarding service in Florida! I’m paying double postage because if I order something online and they ship UPS or FED-EX (and there’s no way of telling), they will NOT deliver to a US post office. So that dragon candle I’m enjoying so much first had to be shipped to Florida, then I had to request a bulk mail delivery from my service to a general delivery PO here in the Seattle area. 😵💫
On this rainy day here I’m wearing my sample of Replica When The Rain Stops.
Hope that works!
Had a good, long, much needed sleep. Woke up around 6, ate and read a little, then put my head back down until 10:30.
This morning I’m testing the old Azuree against the new Azuree Legacy. I don’t have history with either, though I did sample the Legacy version when I first got my coffret.
As I’m a lover of green, moss, leather, Chypre, vintage, the old version (the current formulation of it) wins this nose. It’s more pronounced, sharper, more green, just “more” all of those things.
Some hours later and I can still smell the old version (dabbed) but not the new one (two sprays).
The newer version is more transparent, possibly more floral in the opening, and certainly nice, but not at all interesting to me at the $280 price point.
A review on Fragrantica said not to compare old and new, but to take the new on its own terms. Okay, but then introduce it as its OWN scent. This marketing strategy inherently invites comparison.
Thank you for your review.
I feel like because of these new versions, people would be more interested to go back to the original ones!!
Yes! None of the original EL’s were on my radar prior. I did just buy a bottle of the old Azuree (great deal on Amazon, and with points I had, only $20 cash spent!) as a result.
Your experience with EL Azuree Legacy tracks with mine. I called Azuree Legacy a pale reflection of the original.
I didn’t know it was procrastination week or I would not have spent two hours going through all my makeup brushes and then cleaning them.
Clearly, that goes for putting down much yesterday.
Listening to Bright Young Woman on audible as I wash brushes.
FREEBIE ALERT – FIRST DIBS – NST regulars and US only.
Arquiste Indigo Smoke Discovery size. About 3/4 full.
Dibs if it’s not taken!
tis yours, allo!!
email me at vivienne dot elliott1 in the land of outlook dot com.
Thank you! I’ll email you shortly.
I’d totally spend 2 hours cleaning and organizing my makeup brushes. But this would only happen if I were procrastinating on cleaning the entire house.
Wearing CDG Man 2 because it has been mentioned lately.
And with that, I will join you in the wearing of the same!
Hi Twin!
Ok, this needs to be on my “to sniff” list now.
SOTD is Ormonde Woman, from an NST split. Am liking it far better than last time I wore it, but not enough to consider an FB — in other words, the best of both worlds. 🙂
Busy weekend, co-hosting a baby shower tomorrow, working on a talk I’m giving next week, and then the usual grading/course prep/trying to keep ahead of personal and household paperwork. The sun was out for about ten minutes and now has gone again, but at least the rain has let up.
Hope the baby shower goes well!
Ran quite a lot of errands, dry cleaners, bakery, supermarket, found some delicious avocados, my consumption has really increased since I decided it wasn’t a luxury, wonder why I did in the first place and as a vegetarian who doesn’t eat eggs and milk and butter either, I can use the healthy fat in avocados. I’m almost vegan but still consume yogurt, so not a real one.
I spent the day in Addict eau délice, with the cranberry note I like so much, and tonight it’s Crown Perfumery, Crown of gold which smells lovely today, the CP had such good scents.
Oh, a cranberry note sounds intriguing!
It’s very delicious, it is also present in an another perfume of mine Chantal Thomass, the first one, the bottles are confusingly similar and the name, it is known as ‘black’.
A good avocado is truly tasty. But an unripe one is nasty! Yuck!
True, this one was at its peak thankfully.
I’m commando even in late afternoon because I’ve launched into a big cleaning project that involves a lot of kinds of cleaner for something that has become out-of-control messy. I won’t say more except that it involves cats and a very good old antique piece of furniture that for some reason they like too much.
This was all prompted by the fact that Fed Ex brought me a nice little package today, a pretty reproduction small Tiffany-style lamp that I bought in a cute shop in the French Quarter (Royal Street) last week when I was in New Orleans. This lamp is intended to sit upon the aforementioned piece of furniture but that necessitated the deep clean I’m now in the middle of. The project went out of control because I had (stupidly) stored some papers in the cabinet around 20 years ago and now they mostly just have to get thrown away but it’s made the job just bigger and messier, plus the floor is messed up, plus I now need to realign a painting over the cabinet, etc. etc.! Fortunately, I had no other plans today. Once I give up for the day and clean up I’ll try to find a scent that doesn’t smell of pine or lemon or any kind of oil or vinegar other cleansing solution! And I found a good recipe to try tonight: Roast fennel with garlic, oregano, cherry tomatoes, and white beans. Doesn’t that sound yummy?
Good luck with the project, I bet the lamp will look very pretty on the cabinet + light!
Ugh. Cleaning up a “cat-tastrophe” like that is not pleasant. Best of luck!
That is some serious non-procrastination! Hope you rested after, and hope it looks just like you hoped 🙂
Thank you! It was a huge amount of work and took up most of my day, in part because I am slow going up and down stairs and carrying stuff. Plus I must be very careful when floors are wet or slippery. And then in the end, I decided that the old lamp actually looked better on the cabinet–OMG! But I have several places to try the new one out, and it seems to look good most anywhere. At least I now have one major cleanup job done in my house, with only 999 left to go!
And by the way, when I finally finished and cleaned up some, I sprayed on Calling All Angels, perhaps an odd choice but very very satisfying.
HA…I have had more than one household project go that way!
But bonus, now you’ve cleaned out the cabinet and I am sure the painting is realigned, and you still have a lovely new lamp 🙂
It is a laaaaaazy Saturday here. I have no ambition to do anything at all other than lie around. I will probably force myself to take a walk later but that is all that’s on the horizon. I may even have leftovers for dinner so I don’t have to cook. I’m wearing Sunset Hour.
Yay for lazy Saturday!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Woot! So special I want to bathe in it! 💚

And here’s my caturday post:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C4CBI3SxZly/?igsh=MTBzaHllanE3d29peA==
Have a great weekend everyone!
No. 19 has always been something I have liked.
I’m glad you found a way to post your Chanel.
I’m late in reporting in on my SotD, too. Boudicca Wode, which I’m quite enjoying. I don’t know if anyone else in my family really likes it, but it makes me happy! 🙂
I went downtown to pick up an iridescent pair of Fluevogs today, so all in all a good day. (Yes, I did just get my annual bonus…so splurging on a few small things, especially as last year the whole thing went to renovations.)
Congrats on your bonus and fun splurge!
Wode was a fun one! And it probably goes well with the new Fluevogs.
I watched Stranger Things today for the first time and it’s glued me to the couch for 5 hours. Even minimally scary films tend to haunt me for days, so I hope this won’t do it! But god, so addictive.
My scent today was Grand Soir, and tonight I’ve sprayed some Safanad. Orange blossom is so comforting.
OMG — five hours of Stranger Things?! I loved that show, but that many episodes in a row would have given me nightmares!
It got me really spooked on the first few episodes, but knowing the whole plot helped me not too feel that spooked. I envy people able to watch a really captivating series in well timed episodes one day at a time. I always tend towards the binging behaviour-unless they’re airing live— which is not great for me!
I had a couple of portrait clients today, so I wore “Portrait Of A Lady” from Frederic Malle. (It seemed appropriate.) I love wearing a statement perfume sometimes. And I do love this Malle masterpiece.
However, none of my clients said a word about it, though they HAD to have smelled it. This wasn’t unusual.
I don’t expect people to comment on my fragrance choice. Do I like it when they do? Sure. But it rarely happens. (Years ago, I would have been mortified if someone commented on my scent – that would’ve meant that I’d sprayed way too much – how embarrassing! But now, in my middle age, I guess I’m more needy for attention.🙂)
I often read about fragrances that garner loads of compliments, but I’ve never experienced this phenomenon. Maybe I’m wearing the wrong perfumes. To date, the fragrances I’ve worn that have inspired comments: Portrait Of A Lady (a guy in an elevator said, “Nice cologne.”) Malle’s “The Night,” where a woman apologized for stopping me on the street to ask what I was wearing; another Malle, “Promise,” prompted a comment from a fancy pet-food shopkeeper, (she liked it,) and Amouage Beloved (Woman) sparked a conversation with a Ralph’s Supermarket checkout woman, who wished her boyfriend would wear it; Chanel’s “Coromandel EdP” prompted a “You smell fantastic!” from a friend when he hugged me at a Christmas party, and Guerlain’s “Heritage” made an impression on a guy ringing up my purchases at the pharmacy.
But that’s it.
I’m wondering how often my fellow NST enthusiasts receive compliments. Do strangers offer their opinions on your scent? Or is it mostly friends/acquaintances?
I’m a middle-aged guy, so I can understand why folks, even if they LOVE my scent, would be hesitant to say anything. Frankly, I rarely compliment someone on their scent for fear of sounding creepy. (I do tell my friends, male and female, that they smell wonderful/fabulous/intoxicating, etc.)
I never get compliments on my scent. Maybe they’re just too weird? (Probably not, I don’t have that many truly weird fragrances.)
My glasses, on the other hand…they’re a bit funky and I do get a lot of compliments on them.
No stranger has ever said anything about my fragrance, and only one boyfriend ever asked what I was wearing. In the 80’s, I wore BIG perfumes and still nobody ever mentioned them.
In the decades that I’ve been wearing fragrance, I’ve only been complimented maybe 5 times. Typically it’s been by strangers. I don’t find it creepy though.
I almost never get compliments on my perfume. IDK if it is due to being an application minimalist (3 sprays at most), or what?
Sometimes in the past my friends would mention something when I hugged them.
I’ve been complimented on my fragrance upon occasion, though not too often. One time a cab driver in Miami had to know what I was wearing to buy for his girlfriend. It was Ormand Jayne Woman and I had a bit of a hard time telling him how to buy it. (Not the typical department store or mall scent.) Another time I had on Grand Soir and the checkout girl at a sort of discount home goods store asked what it was and I told her, and she looked puzzled so I told her it was French, and then said “It smells very French.” LOL. Another time a good friend hugged me and said “You smell so good!” and that time it was Delina by Parfums de Marly. And you’re right, I am much more likely to compliment a woman and ask her what she’s wearing than a man, although I have smelled some very good-smelling guys in my time!
Complimenting someone’s scent feels very intimate, (to me, anyway.) Much easier to say something nice about a new haircut or outfit or shoes.
I get compliment’s occasionally, but the strangest one I had was from a coworker. I just clocked in and sat down so he could give me report and he immediately commented on how good I smelled, and then promptly apologized! Like he thought I might be offended! By a compliment! Strange times we live in! Anyway, we had a nice convo about it and I ended up giving the name of the perfume and told him it would smell equally delightful on him. 🙂
I am more complimented by strangers, at the airport, on the train, at coffee shops, people close to me rarely comment, I don’t know why.
Same here.
I get compliments every so often from customers. If I compliment someone I usually say your perfume/cologne smells great. I never say “you smell great” .
I’ve never gotten a compliment that I recall, but I only fell down the rabbit hole 5 years ago, and I wear far more perfume at home than I do in public. I also work from home.
I am more interested in not offending than in getting compliments. Fragrance, for me, is a solo sensory activity. This doesn’t mean I’m always commando, but when out in the world, I stick to less challenging scents and fewer sprays.
I have gotten compliments at least twice in Iris Poudre, once with No 5 L’eau, Marc Jacobs Daisy and VCA Bois d’Iris. I have had a few people look at me when I have probably sprayed too much Coco Noir or Tom Ford Black Orchid. Of course, they are power perfumes so I can understand why they may be giving me the evil eye.
I am struck by the same phenomenon and also wish I got more (positive) attention for my outstanding taste in fragrance😇
Strangers rarely comment on my fragrance but I often get compliments of the general variety when family and friends hug me (e.g. “You smell so good or you always smell so good”).
I’m a therapist and occasionally clients walk into my office and say “It smells so good in here” (better than the alternative!). I do have a client who also loves fragrance. She said that she assumed I was “into perfume” when she saw my Diptyque candle. It was fun to compare fragrant notes🌸
I was commando today. Yesterday I was in Shalimar MI; Friday was a few sprays of Aromatics Elixir.
My “avoid what needs doing” fragrance is probably any iris scent since they can make me feel like royalty, even though I’m the exact opposite of that.
Can’t keep my days straight! Aromatics Elixir must have been Thursday.
Oh how interesting about iris!
I spent yesterday in Carthusia 1681, and this morning the bottle that claimed my attention was CdG Sugi. I seem to be in the mood for green, slightly masculine scents lately.
Then go with the flow, right?
In Shalimar MI again today.
I know that bottle is so happy when your hand lifts it from the counter. It knows it’s well loved! 🥰
Still rainy, grey, and miserable here in WA., but I’m cozy in FM Musc Ravageur from a small bottle I bought at Barney’s in Chicago way back in 2013. Also bought a big bottle of Bigarade Concentree for the childhood friend I was visiting there. We drank too much delicious wine his partner procured on his regular flights to France, became quite silly and goofy, reminisced all night, went skiing (I didn’t make of off the 🐰 hill) and had an all around great time. He (with help from his partner) went through that bottle in about 6 months, so I’d say they liked it. 😀
I just saw that FM is available on fragrancenet for a decent price (well, decent in these crazy perfume price times!), but I haven’t sampled any of them. And, I. Do. Not. Need. More. Perfume! 😅
Also FYI: Ulta’s 21 day of Beauty (or whatever it’s called) starts today. I just scored some (essspensive) skin care items for 50% off, then a further reduction using my points. Fragrances are included, not that I would want to enable any of you…🙃
I’m looking at the Lancome Idole Aura perfume. Free if I use my points.
Looks like it’s my turn to send you some Sun!🌞
Yes, please! 😊
Just an FYI Deva. Some of the FM fragrances you can purchase for a better price at Jomashop. (And I have no association with them.)
Oh, good to know, thanks! I’ve seen that name mentioned here and there but have never bought anything from them. Not that I’m buying any more perfume! No, really, I’m not…😅
Wore Allure yesterday as we headed out to drive almost 1.5 hours to see Dune 2 on biggest screen around. I swear my seat vibrated at one point during a battle scene. We combined it with some errands and good Indian food. I enjoyed it but was less enthused than the first installment. Villeneuve is a great director…I still consider Arrival an underrated, brilliant movie.
Today is Pamplemousse Rose. Such a lovely scent. I stole it from my husband and will likely finish off the bottle one day soon.
In other good news, I ordered a new pair of Hokas (Gaviota) from Nordstrom Rack. They’re great, and I was happy over the savings. Added benefit? Unlike my original pair (Bondi), I don’t look like I have the biggest feet on the plant…and ones shaped like a giant duck’s bill.
You smell fantastic, and glad you at least liked the movie!
Wearing air of despair after doing my US taxes. The Canadian ones will be worse but I can’t face that right now.
Sorry cazaubon! I am not looking forward to hearing my final bill (or at least, I hoping it is no worse than the accountant’s worst case estimate), but at least my part of the work is done.
