Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Margarita Day! Birthdays: George Washington, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Horace Pippin, Edward Gorey, Kyle MacLachlan, Steve Irwin. What fragrance are you wearing?
I overslept spectacularly (after not having slept well the night before), and so I'll pick my fragrance once I catch up!
Reminder: on 2/23, we're off to New Zealand! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in New Zealand, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to New Zealand, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Yesterday I wore Coromendal to the library and today I am in Ysatis By Givenchy.
Listening to NPR and flipping through the paper
Trying to finish this hugs Sarah J Maas book. Library has been calling that its due back..
You’re making the library smell fantastic!
right now I am making lasagne so my home smells good too
Ysatis is a fun one! Not my favorite of the 80’s power florals but whenever I encounter someone who wears it, I compliment them.
Which are you favs.
I store around the corner for me had a small mini of vintage Boucheron
I almost bought it
Boucheron is fun, but Byzance is my absolute favorite. I don’t have any on me right now but it was a statuesque floral with spare spice and warm sandalwood. I haven’t tried the relaunches.
I bought a bottle of Ysatis back in the day. The first time I wore it out in public, someone told me it smelled “so French”. LOL. It’s long gone now.
Shalimar called to me so that’s what I’m wearing, while listening to Steely Dan and making low carb lasagna on a rainy day.
Could there be a more perfect day?😊
Quiet days like this are better than gold imo.
You smell great, and the NY times has a recipe for Garfield Soup-has chicken stock, marinera sauce, noodles, and a dollop of ricotta. Might make it tonight.
That sounds yummy.
Shalimar is always a good idea
It makes me think of you!
Steely Dan for the WIN! 🙌
That’s what I was thinking!
They’re a favorite since I was in high school.
Beautiful sunny day for me to leave California and return to the rain. SOTD is Jardin sur le Nil, which has nothing at all to do with NZ, but oh well. Happy birthday to Kyle MacLachlan! The house where we’re staying has a channel that is nothing but Portlandia, all the time. 🙂
Anytime I want to make myself laugh, I think of the scene in the bookstore when Carrie asks Fred to hand her a book and Fred’s character feigns reaching for it (right next to him) and then says he just can’t. They make comedic magic together.
Jardin sur Le Nil? Put a bird on it!
I’ve had Kyle MacLachlan on the brain, as I’ve been rewatching the original Twin Peaks to finally watch the Return. I forgot how goofy and surreal it is.
How does it hold up? I watched it avidly as a teenager when it first aired, but have never rewatched.
Safe travels back home!
Today’s Naomi Goodsir is the horsey Corpus Equus🐴
You get CP points for the wild NZ horses!
I followed Robin’s lead from yesterday-used La Chasse body wash, then a generous mist of Carnal Flower. I find this scent beautiful and easy to wear, and it just makes me happy.
It’s such a great fragrance, I almost forget sometimes how good FM is. I feel bad I have not tried the newer ones but none of them sound as appealing as the old.
I had a similar experience recently when I just happened to see Carnal Flower sitting there after much neglect. A few sprays later, I felt like I rediscovered its greatness.
Have a great trip to the beautiful country of Aotearoa! I am wearing Curio Noir Pablo, that I picked up in Christchurch last year (where my partner is from).
If your plans include Wellington, I highly recommend checking out Fragifert, the perfumer at the top of the hill, after a funicular ride to the top of the hill. He has a nice sampler set available extracted from native NZ plants and trees.
Mizmavis just in case there is a misunderstanding, it’s just a community project…I’m not really going, although I wish I was!
(We have been doing one country or region every month or so.)
How do you like the Curio Noir perfume? Can you describe it
Yes to Fragrifert – I used to work with the owner/perfumer many years ago 🙂

Another grave I pass each day belongs to a botanist/ painter John Buchanan ( his grave is covered in weeds and moss which seems fitting). He sometimes travelled for months , either in survey parties or by himself studying plants. This painting is of Mitre Peak (1863) in Fiordland ( which I climbed 35 years ago, after kayaking across the bay) and it’s appropriate for today as 23 Feb. 1904 was the day that steps were taken to create Fiordland National Park. The smells were mulchy green dense bush and moss. The view from the top was incredible, straight down into the sea 6000 ft below. Wearing Chypre Mousse.
Sounds like a great match!
Hello everyone!
Got a 90 on my physics test that I was sure I barely passed! I’m chalking it up entirely to y’all’s well wishes.
I’m in L’Heure Blue EdP today, because it’s never a bad choice.
Have a great day everyone!
Give yourself some credit! You Rock!🤘
I’ll try! 🩵
You are awesome!! Physics kicked my butt in high school, ha!
It’s definitely kicking my butt but luckily my professor is more interested in us understanding the concepts than being able to decipher bizarre scenarios. He said the first day, “None of y’all are engineers, so I won’t test you like engineers.”
That is the mark of an excellent teacher.
I totally agree.
Omg!!! HUGE congrats! That is just fabulous! 🥇
Thank you!! 🩵
Congratulations!
Thanks! 🩵
Nice going! 👏
I’m honestly still surprised. 😅
Genius!
I’m sure that’s not right. 😂
You absolutely nailed it! 🔨
Aw, thank you!
Congrats, Coumarin. This is just fabulous. So happy for you.
Thank you!
Woo hoo! YOU will be doing the tutoring 🙂
I can’t even imagine! 🙂
Back home today after a few sunny days in the desert and a whole lotta rain in LA. SOTM is the dregs of Under My Skin after spritzing at about 1 in the morning as I fell into my own blessed bed, but I’ll be taking CP points later on with Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
Love Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
Glad you arrived home safely.
Woke to a bit of sun today so I hope it lasts because I need I few warm rays. It’s been forever.
Canoodling with Uncle Serge again today in Vetiver Oriental which is always a big deep breath in and a long sign out. It’s like an emotion compass in the way it resets me.
I have a bunch of running around to do which I generally don’t mind, but the traffic here is horrendous. Mix in construction and aggressive, rude drivers and it can sour your day.
Hope everyone is getting at least a peek of sunshine today. 🌞
I’m basking in sun right now!
Thanks!🌞
Enjoy your sunshine!
Glad that you got a break from the wet & gloomy weather out there.
I’m in another completely non-New Zealand perfume, Bois des Iles.
But, if I call Box of Eels, it’s ideal – our rivers and streams have eels 🙂
Plus, islands! I say points for you Gaynor.
Great scent Gaynor!
Box of Eels is one of my HGs. So gorgeous and smooth and Pretty (capital P)
I’ve been wondering how to match New Zealand to fragrance. I’ve never been there (although I wish I had) and am not that familiar with the country or its culture. The one New Zealand artist I’ve been familiar with for a while, is Janet Frame. I watched An Angel at my Table sometime in the nineties and read her three volumes of autobiography years later. Her’s was a fascinating life, and certainly not an easy one. Still, in the end she was successful in spite of everything. Her story always makes me feel slightly melancholy but also hopeful, which is the reason I chose Heure Exquise today.
Oh, excellent, I say extra points! I read The Carpathians eons ago, but can barely remember it — although I still have it so I will read it again when I am done rereading Rebecca West.
https://jfestrust.org.nz/
This is the house in Oamaru where she grew up. It has a big quince tree in the garden if that helps perfume-wise ( and probably had rhubarb too)
I love the logic that led you to this choice and wholeheartedly agree. Heure Exquise is always lovely.
I had planned to wear a whole week of fougères for the ferns of NZ. I had no idea until I started researching this week that ferns were of such significance in NZ, I had never noticed that many national sports teams use the silver fern as a symbol. It was interesting to read about its importance for the Māoris and other indigenous populations.
Alas, my week got very busy and I didn’t have time to dig for samples until today, I’m wearing Hendley Mown. And tomorrow I’ll do Boy, my favorite fougère.
Happy almost Friday eve!
Excellent approach to the project.
In one of my usuals today. Shalimar MI.
Did you ever get a bottle of that Shalimar lotion?
No, I did not. I have been thinking about it though now that you mention it.
Attempting to give myself a sort of olfactory pep talk by wearing Krizia’s “Teatro Alla Scala.” I do love it, but I fear it’s bigger than I am today.🙂
Ah, yes it’s a powerhouse that one.
Apple, pear and yogurt smoothie
Molton Brown Muddled Plum today and tonight Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater.
Muddled Plum caused a flurry of excitement here when it debuted.
SOTD = Von Eusersdorff Classic Patchouli Balmy
Patchouli!!! ❤️❤️❤️

The Wall Street Journal had an article the other day about piping in office fragrance to boost moods and entice people to go back to the office. It mentioned how Hines, a commercial real estate company, began to pump in a fragrance in its office tower in Texas and will soon be expanding it to 20 other locations. The fragrance notes include jasmine (improve happiness and confidence), sandalwood (alleviate anxiety) and pine (fight fatigue), among others. There were 4 prototypes made and two were selected as finalists. Also, apparently, other experiments had lavender as a scent note but it could be used because someone was allergic to it.
What do you think? I’m not opposed to it but really, at this day and age of chemical sensitivities, this feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I think there are better ways to entice people to go back to the office. I think you are right though, it could backfire by people saying they can’t come back due to the smell.
I can go along with this logic!
Nailed it!
I like the idea, but the sensitivity of fragrance in some people would probably be an issue. I noticed in some hotels they put out a scent (thinking of the Westin) that I loved. I don’t know if they have had issues, but know you can buy it on their website.
Some hotels already do this, as you mentioned. When I went on an Amalfi Coast hiking tour, the first hotel we stayed at Hotel Miramalfi had its own customized smell as well.
I’m not a fan of the idea. What if you hate your company’s scent?
Being stuck around a smell you don’t like is almost as bad as listening to music that you don’t care for.
This is so true!
This morning I put on some LVNEA Fern and Moss for the CP, but it quickly faded to just smelling of vetiver. So I’ve just applied Fat Electrician on top of the wisps of vetiver. Now I’m properly stinking of vetiver in the most wonderful way. 😉
Yay for stinking of vetiver!
Today is a DSH chypre, Vers la Voute Étoilée. This always smells rich and wonderful to me, and my nose does not react to it!
Good then! What percentage of your collection do you think you can no longer wear?
Prosbly 2/3s of the one’s in regular rotation.
Wow, that’s a lot. I’m sorry.
The store has been very busy due to people spending their tax refunds. Every year I am amazed by it.
Today I wore Cafe Tuberosa. My travel spray is about 3/4 gone. I think I will thunk it this year.
People already have their tax returns?? Geez!
I think some of them do the tax refund advance thing.
Oy with the tax refunds. I will be paying I’m pretty sure!
I saw rain, snow, mixed precip, heavy rain, and finally clearing skies today. It’s been chilly out, so a good day to stay inside and do a load of laundry.
SOTD = back in Estee Legacy. Should have picked something with a bit more heft. This perfume is much happier in warmer temperatures.
That’s some crazy weather there!
It’s been 60 here the last 2 days but there is a chance of snow tomorrow. Lol. Such a Rollercoaster.
My parents used to joke that you could experience all 4 seasons in one day in Colorado.
I always keep an eye on the sky out here.
It’s back to the yucky weather here with cold drizzle and rain, but this too will pass.
There seems to be unsettled weather here about once a week now.
Eventually we will both see the sun again!
Ughhh, it’s been a long and difficult work week. Not much perfume for me, I just keep forgetting.
I did get some samples in the mail today, so am trying FM Synthetic Jungle and Heaven Can Wait. Will comment on both another day when I have energy to do so.
Samples of the OG versions of the recent EL “Legacy” collection also arrived. There was just one of the 5 I couldn’t find at STC, though I don’t remember which right now. Anyhoo, I’ll be doing some side by side testing this weekend.
I hope that tomorrow is the turning point in your week😊
