It's Monday, and as consolation, World Nutella Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Banane to go with my (imaginary, since I haven't got any) nutella toast.
Reminder: 2/9 is Lunar New Year's Eve...wear an auspicious fragrance to ring in the Year of the (Wood) Dragon, or burn or wear incense to honor your ancestors.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Another cold, snowy, windy day, but I’m warm as toast in Molinard Habanita.
Oh, you smell good. I need to wear Habanita soon.
Great idea. I have the 100th year anniversary bottle. I haven’t tried the vintage but this one is great.
Vanille Banana is a fun one on a winters day!
I’m in Bois des Iles to try to maintain some dignity. Wish me luck! Thunking will commence later tonight.
Hope everyone has a Mellow Monday!
You smell fantastic, Deva and good luck to you!
Good luck!
Good luck! You smell dignified.😉
Good luck🍀
🍀
You smell wonderful.
🍀🍀🍀!
BdI is as dignified as they come.
Good morning! I’m in Vanille 44 and lots of it.
You smell lotsa good!
Thank you MTG!
Perfume samples arrived on Sat, so have been wearing Porter Sa Peau since then. It is very pretty, and falls in the Vrai Niche category (as opposed to poser niche, hat tip to She-Ra)😉.
Discovered the Vulture site entertainingly recaps All Creatures Great & Small. The recapper’s convinced that Mrs Hall and Siegfried belong together. Commenters typically agree, though there are a few Team Geralds. Haven’t read the book (nor binged on Passport), so am still in suspense!
Poser niche, lol. Many of those around. Porter sa Peau sound very nice.
I always snicker when someone uses the term “poser niche”!
😄 Happy to see the phrase in use.
Will be in Beige later on; you really can’t beat Chanel on a yucky-windy day like today.
Chanel is good any day imo. You will be smelling great.😊
Agree😊
Thanks!
Another High Classy Lady over here, in Paris-Venise
I’m in Vanille Insensee which I haven’t worn in forever because too much perfume.
Had a lazy, lazy weekend which is sometimes exactly what is needed in life. Then slept horribly (!) last night because *somebody* kept waking me up with their snoring. Oof, I am dragging today.😵💫 But at least the sun is out so I can get out for a lunchtime walk and see if a dose of vitamin d can perk me up.
Got a text from my older daughter yesterday that she knocked it out of the park on her first grad school exam. Knew she would.☺️
I haven’t smelled that scent in a long time. I love it on others, but always seems a little strong on me.
Great news about your older daughter!
Thanks Kris!
VI is pretty light on me and work friendly. I hope!🤣
Sun is out here too.
Congratulations to your daughter!
Hooray for sun!🌞
Thanks lillyjo!
Yay for Midwest sunshine, especially in February!
Hope you can sleep peacefully tonight, so glad of the good news about your daughter.
The noon winter walk was such a gift to my mood when I lived in Canada or Minnesota. Hope the sunshine lifted your spirits. And yay for nailing exams!
Hurray for both the sunshine and gradtowngirl’s exam results!
SOTD is VC&A Bois D’ Iris.
You smell elegant.
Thanks Aurora.
Nothing like a fail-safe perfume on a Monday
Yes, it is fail-safe.
Lovely!
Thanks😉
In Lubin Kismet, which is so warm and enveloping! I’m in a rosy resin-vanilla cloud. Perfect for the cold windy weather at the moment. And reading Moon Palace by Paul Auster.
Are you enjoying the novel? I read Baumgartner recently and liked the start a lot and then it began to meander quite a bit and I found my attention wandering.
So far yes- I am half way into the novel. I chose it because I read it’s one of his most widely liked. I haven’t read much by him, except the New York trilogy many years ago. This one is very nostalgic, it reminds me a bit of some books by Murakami.
I thought someone told me the other day that Kismet was iris. Where did I get that idea from???
I think because I compared it to Millesime iris. The list of notes does not include iris, but I would not be surprised if it did! It’s definitely rosy and balsamic.
Good to know since I love Shalimar MI. I do have Kismet on my sample order list. I do like Lubin.
Hello.
Sotd is YSL Babycat.
I just bit myself eating, now I have this huge blood blister on the underside of my tongue. It HURTS. Ouch!
Ouch, that was bad luck.
That sounds painful!
Rinse with warm salt water. It’ll help.
Oy and ouch to your tongue! At least you smell amazing today.
Our tongues are sensitive, hope the pain subsides quickly, mouthwash can also help.
Ow. I hope it heals quickly.
Yeowch! Sounds really unpleasant.
I’m in Atelier des Ors Pink Me Up.
Great name!
We finally hit summer yesterday and got to 30C (86F) with no wind, which basically had me scuttling to the coolest spot I could find in the garden where I managed a few minutes of weeding before wilting. For me summer is like a deep, hot bath. Something I fantasise about and long for ( hot steamy bath, relaxing, candles etc.) but seem to hate in reality ( too hot, can’t move, want to escape). The guy across the valley was hay making until after dark, the sound of his tractor and the smell of hay drifting our way. Wearing Dusita Pavillion D’Or today. It’s not as hot and it’s Waitangi Day, (NZ Day) which marks the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between Maori and the Crown.
Fresh cut hay is a wonderful smell.
But I feel the sneezes coming on…
I love the smell of hay!
I can relate to that- both the hot baths and summer heat! However your summer evening, with hay scent coming through the windows, sounds enviable. Maybe there’ll be a breeze and you can create a bit of air current for the night.
Weather is always better on the other side of the sun syndrome? I was so desperate to get my hands in the dirt and laze about in the garden, that I ignored the rain on Saturday and just weeded in the wallows.
I love the first whiff of hay making but would have to roll up the window / switch to indoor air circulation before the sneezies attack!
I remember that the smell of hay was one of my Dad’s favorite smells. Makes me think of him whenever it’s mentioned.
So wait, you just hit summer and they are cutting hay? Your “seasons” must be so different than ours!
My ancestors were all Mennonites fleeing religious persecution and they would be suspicious of anything as foreign as incense, so I’m wearing what I want this week. Today it’s Geisha Noire and I might add Kiehls Musk later on.
As Kanuka said, it’s a national holiday here, and I’m up and about early to make the most of it. I don’t sleep late like I used to 🙂
I’m testing Rozy VdE from Vero Profumo, and it doesn’t quite work for me. I tried the EdP when it first came out, and that was the same. I don’t know what it is, and I can never find the right words to describe smells, but no. My favourites remain Mito and Rubj EdPs, and I’m quite tempted by the sample of Rubj VdE to get a FB.
I am always hugely surprised if I manage to sleep to 9…that, for me, is sleeping late. I do miss sleeping til noon!
I grabbed Dzongkha to wear to a Candlemas party on Saturday (bonfire for leftover holiday greens, lots of candles indoors) and realized 1) I hadn’t worn it even once this winter; 2) it’s gorgeous. So I also wore it yesterday and today, making me unintentionally on topic for the CP.
Also managed a shockingly efficient round of errands this morning (haircut, brow threading, eyeglass-frame tuneup, clothing and household goods donation dropoff — all but the last are an hour away from home and so require some planning), so am feeling pretty good about spending the rest of the day grading assignments, posting new ones, and going to meetings.
Dzongkha is a beaut!
I love Dzongkha. You’ve inspired me to wear it on Friday. We’re house twins today – I’m wearing Safran Troublant.
That Candlemas party sounds amazing.
I’m in Golestan today. Not sure it has anything to do with the CP. I bought a nice glass dish to put some of the mini bottles I have out on the counter in the washroom, and thought I’d try Golestan since I hadn’t for a while. When I put it on, I realized that particular bottle has the dreaded Tauer mini evaporation problem…grr. The older bottles are good, but this one is nearly gone and I’ve barely worn it. Sigh.
But! It was sunny yesterday, we have high clouds today, and we’re supposed to have sun again tomorrow. So I will go be happy anyway!
Oh, thanks for the warning. I did not know about the Tauer mini issue. You smell wonderful.
I think a couple of people here have reported issues with evaporation out of those bottles in the past. They’re beautiful little bottles but I think it’s hit or miss. (I have Sundowner, Les Annees 25, and Attar, all of which are fine, but Golestan and Les Annees Bis had evaporation issues.)
I’ll check my Sundowner mini.
Ooooh. I should check on my Tauer spray samples and see how they are holding up.
I haven’t had any problem with the sprays (and I have probably 30 of them). It’s the cute mini 5 ml bottles that are problematic.
I put on Diorissimo this morning and it smelled awful. It was never a favorite but now I am wondering if my little splash bottle of edt has turned. I scrubbed it off and put on Desarmant instead.
Sorry your Diorissimo was a scrubber, but you smell wonderful in Desarmant!
Oh no!
Wish I’d read before spraying, as I would have worn Dzongka. Oh well, tomorrow! I burn incense every day and love incense perfumes. Today is Attrape-Coeur but I’ll be on topic the rest of the week. I also have half a nutella croissant in the fridge left over from yesterday’s breakfast!
You must smell marvelous, I so regret never to have smelled AC, quite the unicorn.
Nutella croissant yummmm
Today I decided to finally try Yvresse from the travel spray that allo generously included for me in my split package last fall. It smells great! But it irritates my poor sensitive nose, so I think I’ll need to make sure to only wear it under long sleeves and put on the long sleeves ASAP after spraying. If I had a scent related wish to be granted, I would wish for a less irritable nose/olfactory system!
Aw, too bad Yvresse is not playing nice with your sniffer.
It’s raining in Los Angeles, no surprise there.
The streets above me are closed and the streets below me are closed.
I have my go bag ready if I need to evacuate.
But I had time and electricity to watch the Grammys, watch True Dectective, and two episodes of an Aussie show about flying medical doctors.
And I had a new recruiter contact me for a role at UCLA!
I have applied there probaby a dozen times over the years and the roles are always on hold or cancelled but I have an interview this Friday.
SOTD is Aedes Cafe Tabac. Why can they not sell travel size???
Ooh, good luck on your interview this Friday!
thank you!!
I’m with you on the travel sizes. I went to their store in May, and was like, sorry, I can’t take one of those large bottles in my carry on, so I can’t buy one. (I ended up with a small bottle from their sister brand, Nomenclature, so didn’t leave totally emptyhanded.)
And good luck on the interview!
Thank you!!
Good luck on the interview! I hope you stay safe and dry.
I’m in l.A. too and yes it’s drenched. I hope your place will be OK, Apsara. Sending you ‘solid dry ground’ thoughts.
Good luck for your interview!
Hope that you and other NST Angelenos stay safe and dry.
Fingers crossed for your interview, and also for staying safe & dry!
I hope your interview went well and that the rain/flooding hasn’t impacted you too much! Hoping you get sun very soon!
Sending good vibes for Friday! 💪🏻
Apple and yogurt smoothie
Worrying news about King Charles.
I chose Omnia today which always makes me think of Deva, and tonight it’s Just Musk, formerly Lentheric now Mayfair, one favorite musk.
I read the news on People.com (somehow they don’t think I subscribe, but I do.). I wish him well.
I didn’t know about People.com, I heard the news on the public radio BBC radio 4. Well, he has access to the best healthcare so let’s hope they can see him through.
It sounds like it was caught at a fairly early stage, so His Majesty does have that working in his favor.
It’s all over the news feeds here.
Yes, true and has good doctors.
I’m in the weird and maybe wonderful (or maybe not!) Bistro Waters. Today I am getting loads of green pepper with grapefruit pith.
Aaaah bisto! ( Should have read it properly)
“Aaah Bisto!” Hilarious. Perfume: Gravy for humans.
Ack, that’s a disturbing thought! 😖
LOL, YOU GUYS!!!!
That perfume does sound weird. I don’t like either of those smells IRL; yet perfumes have surprised me so much that if I tried it, I could love it! 🙂
It’s a weird one for sure. Kind of addicting going on, but as it dries down I grow a little less fond. Fortunately or not, it doesn’t have much staying power.
SOTD = April Aromatics Calling All Angels
Lovely incense!

The bridal shower yesterday was a nice get together with several honorary aunties. The theme was Star Wars; guess their wedding date? 🤣 We had fun gossiping. It was probably awkward when the groom’s birth mother was invited along with the stepmom, but it was what it was. I probably would have fired one of the organizers because she was too scatter-brained. I suppose I was used to more competent ones. It is a big commitment but seriously? Anyway, the overall event went well though, so there’s that.
Did I mention I started watching Northern Exposure? Whether or not I did, I am having a great time rewatching. I don’t remember half the things included!
Is the Star Wars theme carrying on into the wedding itself? I think that would be awesome!
I’m thinking it will!
SotD is Tuscany per Donna, due to the fact that I decided to see if one of those pump-fill travel sprays could get the last few mls out of a bottle with a leaky sprayer. It did, but the travel spray was from that bad batch I got and it was dripping out of the bottom! I managed to get the juice transferred to a pour-fill travel spray. I was left smelling fabulous. The bottle had lost its label, but I think it was an older one, and I got quite a bit of wonderful sandalwood with my florals. Later I went to the library with my NST reading list. Gonna grab some tea and skim around in a few of them. It is Spring here – wonderful sunshine, birdies chirping, a light breeze. But I just don’t think our area has seen the last of Winter yet!
You smell marvelous, I wore that recently, yes great drydown, when I got my bottle I didn’t know Aramis version was the coveted one but the really generous seller said it was rare and that I was going to love it, and indeed that’s what happened. What an adventure with the travel sprays, bad ones seem to be common.
Thanks! (whispers…Tuscany per Donna almost edges out its cousin Samsara to me.) I will have to compare the versions I have – one is the Aramis one. I am glad you have some of this beauty! TpD is still popping up on Ebay at decent prices – that may change. Also, I’m not going to get any pump-fills from Amazon again. A case of you get what you pay for, I think.
The Aramis version was the one I fell in love with as a broke college student. Have not smelled the EL version.
I recall they are very close.
I’m wearing Safran Troublant today. It’s perfect for a colder than expected day and a comfy sweater.
Yes it is!
I love the combination of hazelnuts and chocolate, but I do not like Nutella at all. Too sweet for me.
Blue skies are back after a gloomy weekend. Yay for sunshine!
SOTD = the January Special again, Boyfriend Body Creme on my shins.
And I am CP compliant after all! Plenty of incense in the Body Creme version of Boyfriend.
I like Nutella but can only eat so much of it before the expiration date.
SOTD was a late spray of Laboratorio Olfattivo Kashnoir, which just came in the mail from 50ml, since it could be found nowhere here in the US. This was my most foolish (and $$$) blind buy, but I became obsessed with the idea of it (hoarding instinct kicking in). It’s seriously giving Shalimar, which I love, so yay! But do I need another version of Shalimar? Shall do a side by side and report back.
At Nordstrom yesterday they had the new Penhaligon’s potions collection, but no testers. Said they would come in Tuesday. They had some scent strips sprayed and laid out, though (I didn’t ask what they used to spray them if they didn’t actually have testers already). Eau the Audacity was very promising, but might be too duplicative of Vanagloria. The Penhaligon packaging, though! Sigh. I am such a sucker.
Yesterday, I skin tested Perris Monte Carlo Vanille de Tahiti (strong like, need to test more). White flowers and vanilla.
Also tested Vanilla Powder from Matiere Premiere. Almost a scrubber. Will never sample again. There’s a strong, sharp wood note that’s overpowering. Maybe the ambroxan? But I have scents with ambroxan that I don’t hate. Might be the amount used that’s the problem.
