It's Martin Luther King’s birthday today. The bad news: it's also Monday. The good news: we're at the halfway point of meteorological winter. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Fendi Theorema, because Nancyleandros brought it up in yesterday's poll.
Reminder: 1/19 is Dolly Parton's birthday! Do what you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows an interior page from The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. The Snowy Day is one of many books sent out by Dolly Parton's book gifting program, Imagination Library. And according to The Atlantic, it's the most checked out book at the New York Public Library.
Today I’m stacking a couple of CSPs, Vanille Banane for fun and Vanille Abricot to make it slightly less wacky. It’s a great combo.
I’m glad to learn it’s the midpoint of winter and I won’t be sorry to see the tail end of it. It’s been an odd one, alternating vicious cold with unseasonable warmth, and there’s almost no snow on the ground, which is not usual for this time of year.
Same boat here, Pyramus. No snow. I loathe winter and can’t wait till it’s over.
I love the charming book, Robin.
I’m in La Chasse body wash-it’s a hectic time at work, and starting tomorrow a lot of people will be looking for help with energy forms. So I’m in super close proximity. I want to be well groomed but need fragrances that won’t overpower, or offend, and I find scented body wash is the way to go.
Deep breaths-days getting a bit longer into the evenings, too!
La Chasse body wash must be lovely, I should get some!
Fragrance net is your friend 🙂
Your weather sounds a lot like what I have experienced.
Since it is Monday, I am wearing Cabochard (with last drops of Aliage mini) for Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 –
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbxUSsFXYo4
Did you know that the clicking sound at the beginning of the record is Dolly’s acrylic nails? I have just learned it! 😮
Oh, and here is “Dolly Purrton’ version (as a cartoon) for you cat lovers 😂:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=744112617072163&id=100044202950790&set=a.202995871183843
LOL, that’s pretty funny!
Cute! 😹
Adorable 😻😻
Love the use of 9 to 5 as CP inspiration!
That “Dolly Purrton” comic was funny! Thanks for sharing.
I’m wearing Blue Spruce by Demeter, which I really like. It isn’t piney, but it is quite fresh.
Oh that does sound nice!
Electric Cherry
Thunk
Do you remember Coty Cherry Vanilla? It was a great Cherry. I also really liked Cherries in the air.
Yes I do!!!! My daughter has both Cherries in the Air and Cherries in Japan!! If she can remember to bring the bottles home I’ll make you decants. Meanwhile the two Tom Fords I received in samples remind me a lot of the Escadas
I didn’t know Electric Cherry was TF. I think I am behind on the new stuff.
Lol! I think it is? And another cherry is new too. I’m off to research
See 👇 below
It’s Tom Ford 🤣
Yes it’s Tom Ford. And I also sampled Cherry Smoke but didn’t thunk it
Hooray for the thunk!!
Thanks! It’s the year of the thunk 😁
I love that, and I’m going to try to copy it!
👍👍👍🩵
I rather liked Electric Cherry when I had the chance to sniff it late last year.
Yesterday: El Born. Today: proooobably Eau My Soul. Judging by the darker juice in the sample it looks like a nice winter-y one.
Very glad to hear we (in the northern hem.) have reached the “humpday” of winter. As Pyramus above said, it has been a very strange one so far.
The Snowy Day was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. I may even still have my childhood copy somewhere, along with Where The Wild Things Are and Goodnight Moon. I’ll have to take a look in the basement.
Happy Dr. King Day for those who celebrate the holiday. I was reading some of his quotes earlier; he was an inspirational human being.
Yes, my favorite babysitter would read it to us when we were small, and it is one of the American classics that Mr. Skal and I took to our grandson last summer. What a treasure.
I bought another copy for my son and I still have that. Such a great book!
In Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
On my way back from the cemetery. It is so cold that I didn’t stay for too long. My youngest sister is going on a 3 week work trip to South America on Wednesday, so I am having brunch with her in a few before she is gone.
I will spend the rest of the afternoon in my declutering project. I have a couple of boxes with more kitchen stuff ready for Goodwill. I feel really good to see so much free space in the cabinets.
Happy Monday! ☕️
Good luck decluttering!!
Thank you!
Love Black Cashmere. You are inspiring me with the decluttering.
I am very serious about declutering this year. Unless I have an emergency or any activity with family or friends, I will spend at least one day of the weekend getting rid of unnecessary things. I hope to be done by the end of the year, if not before.
I am SO impressed with your determination to declutter. That could be the inspiration I need.
Now that I have more available time during the weekends, I feel very motivated to keep the decluttering going. At least 70% of what I have needs to go. I am keeping only what it is very necessary.
Brrrr! It was -9F when I got up this morning and now it’s soared to -7, and I know that’s better than the plains. Glad it’s halfway over.
Wearing Geisha Noire with a dab of Captured in Amber under a pile of sweaters and fleece. This weather just makes me want to hibernate. Stay warm!
I haven’t been dealing with weather nearly this cold, and all >>> I <<< want to do is hibernate. (I say: go ahead and let yourself rest if you have the luxury of doing so.)
Part of me is happy to hear we are halfway thru winter, and part of me is wondering if the worst is yet to come.
CP: La Chasse aux Papillons edt. Granted, it doesn’t make as much sense when it’s -6, but I’m not upset about it. We have a beautifully sunny day, and I’ve long said I would rather have super cold with sunshine than warmer and completely overcast (which is the norm here in winter).
Since it doesn’t make any sense at all to leave the house unnecessarily, I’m going to clean. I’ve been down with a virus for at least a week, so catching up while the sun shines will be a delight.
Staying inside and wearing La Chasse sounds like a great idea. Hope you got plenty done and got plenty of rest 🙂
Hello.
Sotd is TF Black Orchid.
It’s rainy and very windy out today. Not a good combination; umbrellas are useless. Winter here hasn’t been cold at all. I miss wearing my furry Ugg boots!
House twins
I’m also in Black Orchid! it’s good for the cold.
I wore Black Orchid yesterday. Perfect for these cold days!
Another cold clear day, another wearing of Ummagumma. I got two compliments yesterday.
You smell fabulous and I might have to go back to yesterday’s poll and add Ummagumma to my “talk me off the ledge” list😬
I love getting perfume compliments
You’ve been inspiring me to hunt down my Ummagumma sample.
Chilly morning but didn’t need to have the furnace running because it stayed above freezing. Not so across the country! Hope everyone stays hunkered down and cozy!
Wearing JM Myrrh and Tonka, which I immediately regretted after spraying. *sigh* Oh well.
Toast and coffee and a piece of frozen chocolate cheesecake for breakfast. Breakfast of champions!
I hope it was a lot above freezing!
Every now and again I sample Myrrh and Tonka. I always regret it. Lol! It’s really a love or hate perfume.
Supposed to get to 68F today and I’m not mad! For some reason, I always remember this JM as being better than it actually is…I have no idea why but it’s a bit of a disappointment every time I spray it. I’ll probably get rid of it sooner or later. Hope you get some SUN! 🌞
I feel the same about M&T.
I’ll jealous of your leftover cheesecake breakfast 😋
I’d gladly take that JM off your hands!
Hit me up at taiga 101 in the land of yahooligans with your new addy. *no space between “a” and “1”* 👍🏼
Emailed you!
Wearing Black Orchid today. The bottle really matches the scent on this one, it’s sophisticated and smells as expensive as it is.
Not sure what bottle you have, but I have the parfum, so it is in a gold bottle that is lovely. I wore it yesterday in our frigid weather and it was perfect!
It’s only 13 degrees out today and I am in Dia today. It’s a no 22 on steroids.
Dia is so classy and grownup! I am in the less-mature Prada Candy
I might have a sample of Dia. I have to check.
You smell wonderful, I wear Dia more than Gold.
Too bad Dia is so hard to find lately.
Another clear, cool, autumnesque morning, quiet except for a rooster in the distance and some sparrows clattering away. Off to hospital today ( just routine chest X-ray) so I will cheer myself up with a trip to the art supplies store. My fountain pen and notebook collection is as big as my perfume collection but, like perfume, the hunt for “ the one” never ends. The right paper is so elusive: correct weight to avoid bleed through of ink, nice tooth ( texture), size ( portability , dimensions, weight), binding ( lie flat), good cover so you can’t write on your knee. I never ever leave home without a notebook and fountain pen , and have found that sketching in waiting rooms is the best way for me to pass the time as appointments run late. If I have a book I end up reading one paragraph over and over but with drawing you can get quite absorbed while listening in on conversations. Wearing a touch of JM Green wheat and meadowsweet which sounds like a Dolly Parton rhyme.
Oh, fountain pens can be dangerous. I have a small collection in a box somewhere, but fortunately that collecting urge was confined to my teens.
I dare not look at fountain pens seriously ever again. One of my friends who also collected in her teens recently said she’d been cleaning her pens—necessary because she wasn’t actually USING them—and then had the “Hey, maybe I should go check out new fountain pens” urge. 😂
Eek. I just bought two fountain pens (they arrived on Friday). First ones I’ve ever purchased for myself: I have two that were gifts to me, and three or four that belonged to my grandfather — all of which need repair to be usable.
Enjoy your new acquisitions! I do love them, and they can be such amazing works of art.
My husband loves fountain pens. There is an annual pen show in Dallas that we used to go to when we lived in that area. We have been back once or twice since moving to Arkansas. Yesterday, I found out we are going to go to one in Little Rock.
Wearing Bal d’Afrique today because I think it suits Dolly Parton well. I’m also moving perfume bottles in anticipation of our mini split install this week and realized that my Bal d’Afrique isn’t getting any younger and needs some attention. It never ceases to amaze me what I discover when I have to move/rearrange bottles. The upside of all that work!
I organized my perfume the other day. I didn’t find anything I had forgotten about but I love how they look now.
Where do you keep your perfumes?
I keep them on a bookshelf in my room. I put the minis on the top. I keep decants in a dresser drawer in a candy dish. Samples in a couple of boxes. One box is keepers and the other is to give away. I have a small assortment that I keep on my daughter’s dresser along with any body mists. I try to display my boxes but have recently boxed some of those up to free up space.
Very efficient. I bet it looks very nice, I’ll have to take a decision about boxes too, I display the perfumes in them but they take up space.
Envious of everyone who has organized their perfumes! Someday I’ll get there, lol.
Wearing Chengmen from my new bottle. This is rich, opulent, and an incredible champaca scent
Oh, I love champaca…I bet you smelled great today.
I’m drawn to patchouli and vanilla scents during the deep winter!
Do you have favourites?
I recently discovered the signature Bohemian Reves scent ‘Desert Fleur’ which has captured my attention and makes me feel good! I initially was using their very thick/rich and wonderfully scented cream (same scent) so I decided to by a rollerball and am slathering myself with it.
Sounds fab!
I’m the opposite. I start craving Spring scents.
Yes sometimes a good tropical coconutty fragrance appeals to me in the winter to transport me to warmer mindset, but that may not be what you are talking about! My son and his wife are in Hawaii right now and my stiff limbs are yearning for the heat!
Have you tried Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights? If you like vanilla and patchouli, it’s worth a sniff.
I’m wearing White Cube this morning. I have a dental cleaning in 4 hours and I thought this would wear off nicely by then. I will be walking, I think. It’s sunny but cold and the snow is not melting, and I like the crunchy sound my feet make. I am really looking forward to Hiram Green’s Philtre, I love carnation perfumes. Sadly he won’t ship a sample to the US so I will have to wait until it gets here.
We are scent and cold twins!
Wearing the last of my small Chergui decant–because I have more coming Yay!!!
Breakfast was leftover raspberry souffle from dinner with neighbors this weekend. Souffle doesn’t completely hold up overnight of course, but it was still delicious.
Was that the decant from Koyel’s splitmeet years ago? I thunked mine very early on.
Sure was! I’ve been eking it out drop by drop, obviously.
Wow!! I wore mine daily and furiously and I remember Koyel admonishing me for finishing it so quickly 🤪🤪
Lol. But I love how passionately you wear fragrance!
😁😁😁😁
Your breakfast sounds so tasty! 😋
I don’t know a lot about Dolly Parton, but Google tells me she was born in 1940, so a lot of perfumes have been introduced in her lifetime – that gives me plenty of choice for the CP 🙂
I’m wearing a dark orange dress today, so I’m wearing my favourite orange perfume, 24 Faubourg.
Dang. I ‘m still regretting giving away a full bottle of 24, Faubourg to my brother’s girlfriend a few winters ago!
My SOTD is Une Rose Chyprée which I haven’t worn in a while. Such a shame that this beauty is no longer made (plus that my bottle is wonky and seems to leak somehow).
We had some snow last night but nothing like what is falling down in the US.
You smell lovely. I should get that bottle out more often.
I’m checking in with 8 degrees here. -13 windchill and a total of 25 inches of snow over a 6 day period. I am so happy to be on Staycation! My daughter is mad at me because I won’t take her to the Mall. Too bad, so sad for her. I am staying home!
White Cube called my name today. I think Dolly probably likes Gardenia.
-13 is not fit for anyone to be out and about. I vaguely remember those temps from childhood in Illinois suburbia and I never want to experience them again. I hope you get some warmer temps soon. Is the sun out? So many white cubes and I think there were pink cubes, too? I got so confused as to which is what I gave up trying them back in the day. I’m sure you smell fabulous. 👍🏼
And I’m so glad you are on staycation.
It’s mostly cloudy here with peeks of sun. Next week it might be 30 degrees. You know people will be out in shorts and sandals! Lol.
But I’m betting you won’t be one of them! 😊
I’ve been wearing my heavy coat in preparation since October! and will keep it on until April. 🤣
I saw some crazy guys running around in shorts here last week. SMH.
Yes, I see her as a white floral kind of person.
Oh definitely. I recall her wearing the flowers in her hair back in the 70’s.
Enjoy your much deserved rest and relaxation ❄️🩵🙏
Thanks! I am.
Brrrrr…🥶. And here I am at 28F which will go down to 21F tonight but I will be snug in my bed!
That throw should come in handy!
Where do you live again? You have more snow, but we are much colder with -4 and -26 wind chill which is an improvement since it was this weekend. Closer to -45 wind chill Saturday and Sunday.
Michigan. Across the lake from you. It protects us from getting as cold, but kicks up lake effect snow.
Glad that you are on Staycation! 25 inches is a LOT! Do you get any lake effect snow?
Yes about 10 inches of that is lake effect. More to come this week.
So you get similar to what Buffalo, NY does. Yikes!
No wonder you hate snow.
Definitely not the weather for going to the mall!
Nope!
I applied a small amount of vintage (turquoise bottle, very pristine juice) Youth Dew this morning, I keep it in the bathroom in its box, I tend to wear the bath oil more though, and tonight it’s NR Farouche which has lovely green notes, I still remember smelling it for the first time years ago at the Galeries Lafayette. I also have 15ml of the extrait.
Smelling great, Aurora! I treasure my bottle of Farouche. The extrait must be divine!
Thank you Gail, I can’t think of another perfume quite like it.
Farouche! I had a bottle, haven’t thought about it for years!
Enjoy.
Time to retrieve it😃
Farouche! I had a bottle, haven’t thought about it for years!
Enjoy.
I loved “The Snowy Day” as a kid. I have early memories of reading it under a table in the kitchen, probably pretending it was a hideout.
I’m in Angels’ Share today because it called to me when I opened the drawer. I think it works for Dolly because she’s from Tennessee and when we went to TN when I was a kid we toured a bourbon distillery.
It was -7C when I woke up (windchill would have been worse) but now up to 0, which seems tolerable. I think I’ll venture out for a working lunch.
I wish I could read that article in The Atlantic about The Snowy Day, but it’s got a paywall.
Perfect retrofit for points!
I’m in 2 sprays of Aromatics Elixir. We’re climbing out of the deep-freeze temps but the next thing will be snow. I’m not complaining because we need any and all forms of snow or rain.
Yesterday I wore 4160 Tuesdays Over The Chocolate Shop. I oversprayed myself because I could!
I spotted my 10mL bottle of Aromatics Elixir when I was checking over my perfumes. It was fine.
That’s great! I hope everything arrived in good order.
I haven’t seen any signs of leakage or breakage in my perfume bottles. Haven’t checked samples yet.
What a lovely picture for today, Robin. You always have a winner for us.
SOTD is DS & Durga Deep Dark Vanilla.
I was so happy to see it on the list for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library 🙂
Went to this morning’s MLK March — my city has held a march every MLK birthday since 1971. Very cold, but it was sunny and dry, so it was a good weather day for January 15 in this part of NY State.
Commando — but maybe will try Aromatics Elixir, now that Gail has mentioned it. I think Dolly is an astonishingly brilliant and generous person; I guess my association would be any fragrance that makes me feel like a force of nature.
I like your interpretation of the CP and am going to use it to try to figure out what perfume to wear this week!
2nd that!
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Butterlily Damselfly EDP
Clean!

In other news, I am debating if I should cancel my cruise this summer (if you consider June summer). Anyway, I was gung-ho about going even when my sister was not as enthused given the volcanic eruptions. Well, the double-whammy of the MaxJet’s panel issue and another volcanic eruption 🌋 in Iceland added more to the Cons side in quick succession. I have about 6 weeks to decide but I am now more likely to cancel than not. I will still go on vacation somewhere but won’t even think about it much yet until I actually do something about the cruise.
Oh boy. Vacations should be a source of relaxation and renewal, not stress.
I’ve been wearing cozy and delicious smelling perfume all weekend and since today is the last day of my three day weekend, I decided to keep it going with Zoologist Bee.
Hope it was a good last day of the break, therabbitsflower!
I *think* it got up to zero degrees F here this afternoon. Not sure. The low this morning was around -16. And that was the air temperature, not the Wind Chill. Methinks I need to get either some long underwear or some fleece-lined leggings sometime soon. And more heavy wool socks.
Had a few snow flurries, but they amounted to a dusting and no real accumulation. It’s a different story up in the High Country (not a joke about legal weed). Some ski areas have had several feet of snow fall over the weekend. Means an excellent chance of avalanche. A highway and pass up in the mountains was closed by one recently.
SOTD = Boyfriend Body Creme, in the usual spots.
I just got some fleece lined leggings. They are super cozy.
I did too. I’ve worn them quite a few times this season so far.
Commando most of the day, then dabbed a bit of Ummagumma. Later slathered on FM Le Parfum de Therese, as a sample just arrived (alongside decants of FM Musc Ravageur and Chris Collins African Roobois).
I’m adoring Therese, and think it fits the CP. I’m getting: feminine strength. I also love the story.
Therese is so lovely!
I’m a huge Therese fan – you smell wonderful!
