It’s Hump Day and National Bittersweet Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking double points for the almond and chocolate in Bvlgari Omnia.
Reminder: 1/12 is National Marzipan Day. Wear a fragrance with honey, almond or both.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows a Chocolate Covered Marzipan loaf from German company Niederegger, available in multiple sizes at Amazon, World Wide Chocolate, World Market and etc.
Good Morning all- Had a wonderful day at NYPL.
Then, at about 2am, I woke up and can hardly swallow.
Today also is a service for one of my colleagues who passed away on Christmas. Needless to say I am being wise and will stay home.
I will be commando today but my scarf smells like Xocoatl
by Fueguia.
I cannot smell this scent at all when I am out and about in New York, but when I was in Canada I could really smell it! But yesterday two women, one on the bus, one in Central Park came over to me and told me I smelled so beautiful. The lady on the bus told me she smelled something sharp, almost bitter, in a good way.
Get well soon ! I realized perfumes sometimes smell different depending where you are!! is it strange? I really don’t know how to explain it.
I realized that too! It might be the temperature and humidity difference (and air pollution/particles)?
yes. When I visited Morocco last year I couldn’t smell any of my colognes I brought…
Ugh. Feel better!
I do not know your scent, but it sounds yummy.
Feel better soon! 🙂
Hope you are feeling better soon ltsg
Feel better soon!
This is a note to say I hope you feel better soon, and it was good of you to stay home. Colds and flu are rampant here and wish people would follow your example 🙂
It’s always a wonderful day at the NYPL! I hope your sore throat goes away and nothing else replaces it.

I saw this and thought of you. I haven’t read any of the books. I did start one, and got a third the way through before giving up ( it kept explaining the motivations and plot, as if summarising for people with a low attention span so that they understood).
I hope you feel better soon. Wise to take it easy.
I hope you feel better soon!
Hope that your sore throat goes away ASAP!
Hello.
Sotd is F-ing Fabulous. According to the notes list, there’s almond. I can’t believe this scent was released almost 7 years ago!
Made a mug of mocha hot chocolate for breakfast today. Yummy.
Wow, 7 years, I would not have thought it was that long ago either. Fun to see the sex in vanilla sex crossed out on some store websites now 🙂
Hi all!
I am wearing a bit of Diva, which has some honey. While it is not strictly a honey perfume, it has a powdery, slightly animalic sweetness.
I submitted my home page for the coding workshop. The design is “minimalistic”, but it is responsive, the layout looks clean, so I think it turned out not so bad. Still need to create the other pages, but now I have the design concept and a better idea what should go where.
Twins–operative word being “bit.” Can only handle in homeopathic doses!
I have a dab-on mini, and sometimes wonder how would it feel to spray Diva lavishly, but overall I agree it is best to enjoy it in small doses. 😂
Love your description there. 😉
That’s great you finished your website! I hope it’s well received. Will you actually be putting it to use? What’s your next step?
I have not finished it yet. By home page, I meant the “Home” page – first page of the website, the one you see first when you visit it. So still a lot to do and too early to say what I am going to do with it, but I have the layout, so I can sort of copy it on the rest of the pages.
Diva is gorgeous. I have enjoyed the small dabber sample I have of it very much.
BTW, Teflon kitty was wearing a harness with a bell on it for Moving Day which made it easier for me to find her when she disappeared into the basement.
Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon. Not really dragony, more amaretto-by-the-fireside, very comforting. The forecast snowstorm is here and traffic is all messed up, especially on the highways, but I made it to work and I guess I’ll make it home.
Thanks again for the ink recommendation. It arrived yesterday and works a treat. The platinum carbon black.
Glad I could be of help! I keep a fountain pen with an extra-fine nib perpetually inked with Carbon Black, so useful for those times when you just have to play around with watercolour. (I have no artistic ability but I love to dabble with different media.)
I’m wearing Alkemia perfume oil Woods on a Snowy Evening. Pretty.
And a pretty name!
I am in Prada Infusion d’Amande for the CP.
I am getting ready for a long, difficult, and very stressful meeting in about an hour to go over one of the projects I am working on. I can already see lots of tension, aggravation, and disagreement unfolding. Wish me luck!
In the meantime, coffee and an almond croissant.
Happy Wednesday! ☕️
Hope your meeting is less stressful rather than more. As always, your breakfast is delicious!
You smell great and I hope your meeting goes well!
Good luck!
Infusion d’Amande is one of my new to me favorites! You smell lovely 🌷
Oh boy, hope the Prada lends some serenity to the tension & aggravation!
Good luck with the meeting. Maybe it won’t be as bad…
Good luck! 🍀
Hope it passes smoothly. Good luck
Sending you zen vibes for your meeting! And wish I could be breakfast buddies with you today, love an almond croissant!
Smelling fantastic, of course! I hope the meeting is/was better than you expected.
Best of🍀for the meeting.
Hope that your meeting wasn’t as bad as you were anticipating.
Almond croissants are my favorite ones. 🥐😋
I hope the meeting went well! I’ve had a stressful work week myself, and the anticipation anxiety you describe is very familiar.
Today I’m sampling Parfums de Nicolai Caravanserai, I’m enjoying it very much. It has an appealing incense to my nose although it’s not in the notes.
I’ve got a travel spray of Caravanserai, which I really like.
It’s Indochine for me this morning. There’s a sliver of northern sky visible out the window, and it’s lilac-colored. Pretty, but I’m afraid it might signal snow. A lot of people here seem to gravitate to one extreme or another — there are those who don’t like to (and have never properly learned to) drive in slippery conditions (raising my hand), and those who had their studded snow tires put on their gigantic vehicles as soon as it was legal to (grrrr). Both are hazards to driving.
You smell fabulous!
I started the Updike, Month of Sundays last night. Thanks for the suggestion.
You’re welcome — I hope you enjoy it!
I am in JM Myrrh & Tonka which, according to Fragrantica, has almond.
It’s freezing outside but I am going for an evening run and I’ll be smelling good 😊
You are smelling wonderful!
SOTD = Guerlain Tobacco Honey EDP
🥰 and points for the CP! It needed some maturing when I first wore it and now it has come to that point and whoa!

In other news:
1) the deadline for submitting the Verizon settlement for administrative fees is April 15, 2024
2) although I have to double-check, Northern Exposure is supposedly now streaming on Prime. If true, 👍👍👍!
We lost power last night due to the weather. There were 3 attempts within minutes of when it first went out but everything just fizzled. I was concerned about how long the outage was going to be in case it was going to be more than 4 hours as I would have to throw out some food but it all came back about 1 hour later and I did not have to discard anything!
I loved Northern Exposure! And Men In Trees. 😁
I really hope we don’t lose power here. The funny thing is, the power has stayed on during the last two hard freezes we had (Feb 2021 and Dec 2022), but will go off for no apparent reason on mild, sunny days. We had one outage that lasted a total of 24 hours (off for 16 hours, on again for 3 hours, off again for 8 hours more) during beautiful, mild, sunny weather in April once. We have had more outages than I can count when there was nothing more than a gentle breeze or a sprinkling of rain. If we do end up moving eventually, one of the prime considerations I will have is to find a neighborhood where the power doesn’t go out all the time.
Glad to hear that you came thru last night’s weather in decent shape!
Wow, it sure is…I am watching too many shows already (at least 5) but have Northern Exposure on my watchlist now, thanks!
I’m wearing SL A La Nuit, which never smelled skanky to me-just a gorgeous gentle jasmine.
We’ve had almost every sort of weather here except for sun-snow has stopped, and the temp is supposed to rise to 7 C, with epic rain coming at us. If I were rich I’d go to Spain for the first four month of every year, and never see snow again! Snow and winter are ok except when you have to drive in it. I’ve been doing it for decades and I never get used to it. But I do love end of March, when you can think of cycling again, and you can kind of smell rotting ice and vegetation-to me that’s the first sign of spring 🙂
You smell divine!
2nd that.
A la Nuit is beautiful!
SOTD is Yves Rocher 8e Jour, which has a honey note among its spicy, woody, floral ambery yumminess. I have not kept up with YR’s recent releases, but those I have sniffed do not match up to the wonderful perfumes they released in the 80’s and 90’s.
You’re right — nothing they do nowadays can touch their glory days. 8e Jour was lovely, and I fondly remember Cantate (caramelly cinnamon), Antartik (so cold!), Samarkande (so warm!), and Nuit d’Orchidée, among others. I have a half dozen YRs, but nothing in the last 15 years or so: most of what they produce just doesn’t speak to me.
I still have a number of their perfumes from back in the day. 8e Jour, Clea (a lovely floral aldehyde), En Avril Un Soir (a wonderful floral chypre), Ispahan (a gorgeous Oriental and probably my favorite YR of all). I always thought Nuit d’Orchidee was like a softer version of Poison. I have a mini of Sur la Lande from their 2022 Advent calendar, and it is fine but nothing that really grabs my attention. I have had samples of a few others in recent years, but I cannot remember anything about them, not even their names.
It was a hot day yesterday, very exciting, as we get few truly hot days here, and we’ve got another warm day coming up.
I’ve decided on Rose Alexandrie from Armani, it’s a light rose that feels like summer.
At last!
I’m all in for Bittersweet Chocolate Day! 🍫❤️
Taking points for testing a sample of Montale Honey Aoud this morning. Total scrubber. I literally scrubbed it off with a washcloth and a few drops of oil to dedicate the last bit, which didn’t come off in the shower. Worked great! Now I’m in Vol de Nuit, to make up for it.
I meant eradicate.
I’ll join you in huzzahs for Bittersweet Chocolate Day!
My grandmother is having her surgery today. My parents are at the hospital while I man the home front. Well, it’s mainly to keep the dogs out of trouble. Wearing Epic today and it seems like I am having an Amouage week this week.
I hope everything goes smoothly for your grandmother. And good luck with the dogs!
Hope everything will go well.
I’m sending her and your whole family my best wishes. It’s great if you have a big surgery like that to have family around to help support you. I did find that the pain drugs sometimes made me quite messed up emotionally. I hope that won’t happen but thought I’d mention it.
Fingers crossed that everything went well for your Grandmother today.
I’m wearing JM French lime blossom to match the flowering trees in the park. We have had a lot of wet and windy weather , low cloud and a bit miserable, and yesterday I got soaked a s I walked around the cemetery, smelling the roses. There is a lot of flowering onion grass in the area and its strong smell hung over the boundary plots, mixing with the rose. An odd mix. I am thinking of ordering Grand Chalet though I’ve never smelled it.
Grand Chalet is the best linden scent I’ve tried. Very true-to-life.
Thanks for the info. And Kevin gave it a good review, too.
Yes, that’s what got me to try it.
I have smelled it, and I’ve been thinking about ordering it ever since 🙂
Luckily I still have some though.
I’m in Fourreau Noir for a rainy day. Never realized it had a note of almond, but I detect it now.
Surprise points!
Wearing Chergui today. There is honey in the notes, although I don’t necessarily pick it out. It’s such a nice fragrance for cold weather!
Ah, you smelled great today Gail!
Haven’t worn that yet this winter and I should. Thanks for the reminder. You smell great!
I managed to find my decant of Cleef and Arpels First EDT decant. I smelled very ladylike today (which i am totally not). And i went to the gym after a long workday, because i have to get back on track. Otherwise i will never go there again, and that no good idea at all.
Congrats on getting back on track tannina! Hopefully I am going to follow in your footsteps. I joined the gym this week after letting my membership lapse in 2020.
Wearing Tauer Nexxium from a split. I added this to the amalgamation of different scents already living on my shacket. They’ll smell me a mile away! A nice hefty Vetiver with just the tiniest bit of sweet. Definitely unisex.
Beautiful sunny day in the hood but it got quite cold last night- around 28F I think. In Tucson doing all the things that need to be done. Sadly, not fun stuff. Laundry, shopping for groceries and dog food, etc. My mail did consist of some pre-Christmas stuff so I’ll have fun with that over the next couple of days.
Cheers all!
Joining you in doing “not fun” tasks today.
Today I went with Loukhoum by Ava Luxe for honeyed nuts and rosewater. Unfortunately, my old bottle no longer sprays so I have to dab it on. But the perfume is very strong so it might be for the best.
Good thing you can still get perfume out of that bottle, and it’s not stuck in there!
Yardley Jade today, a good dupe for Cristalle, and tonight for the CP Burberry Brit EDP.
I recall the EdT and EdP of Burberry Brit as being quite different.
I never tried the EDT, now I want to😃, it’s good you’re back with us, it must mean you are now more settled, I hope Teflon is doing well.
I am in SL Fille de Berlin because another NSTer wore it yesterday and it’s the only fragrance in my office that fits the cp.
You smell just wonderful!
Thank you😊
I’m wearing the only honey scent I own, Back to Black. I just have a small spray bottle that is part of the Sweet Harmony set. BK loves its cheesy names.
I had forgotten all about the honey in this one, but someone was wearing it yesterday, so that gave me another option for this cp. Winter has finally arrived so we get sunshine and chilly temperatures. It takes some getting used to, but actually seeing some sunshine is wonderful.
I wish we had more sunshine to go with the chilly temps 🙂
I’m wearing Bombay Bling to celebrate a sun sighting (however briefly) after days of clouds and rain. I will haul out the honey scents tomorrow and Friday. There was snow last night, but this morning only a dusting lingered between the blades of grass. I am happy not to be shoveling.
Yay for seeing a bit of sun! That’s one thing about Colorado that I am enjoying right now.
I am a veritable crazy quilt of scents at the moment all over the bare skin points on my arms and neck and hands, because I met up this morning for brunch with nancyleandros, and then we went sniffing at the Houston Galleria, primarily at Saks. Lots of fun! Brunch was delicious (the restaurant has among other things various egg options with a choice of mix-ins, and I chose to add to my scrambled eggs with spinach and goat cheese; they arrived hot and were SO creamy! –she had oatmeal with berries). I took a bag to show her my recent Arabian perfume purchases, and it was so nice to show them off to another perfume person. She could test them and I could talk about the whole experience of shopping there on my recent trip.
I’m not sure we found anything in Saks that created a lemming, but we were both very impressed by Tom Ford’s Myrrhe Mystere. It’s gorgeous.! I sprayed on some of Guerlain’s Oud Kohl and am still intrigued by how it’s developing on my forearm. It is a very very dark smoky scent. We tried several things from Matiere Premiere that smelled attractive at first, but we weren’t pleased by the dry downs. I felt that one of them even made me allergic, as I went into a sneezing and coughing spell (it was French flowers, a beautiful gardenia scent I had quite liked). Tom Ford’s Vanilla Sex smelled good when we just sniffed the bottle, but on paper I at least found it not so great. It has a very strong almond note.
There is a new shop in the Galleria that I can’t recall the name of, but it’s French and a bit pretentious in that Le Labo/Aesop way, selling a limited selection of perfumes along with other products such as body lotions, room sprays, and laundry detergents, all purportedly natural and (I think) vegan. (It’s “Maison Someone” but I can’t recall the name.). One of their scents we both found lovely and unusual: it featured white rose and cardamom and was quite delicate. Their perfumes are all essential oil based. I’ll look up the name later.
I pooped out, alas, due to leg pain after walking too much, and had to leave to come home, but I think Nancy sampled more over at Nordstrom’s after I left, so I hope she’ll report in!
Your day sounds wonderful!
If you remember the name of the shop and the rose/cardamom perfume, please post it. I don’t get to the Galleria very often, but I am thinking I am due for a perfume sniffing trip in the near future. Probably after this upcoming mega freeze LOL.
The name is Maison Luisant. Maybe we can meet you for a sniffa sometime!
That would be fun!
What fun! And thanks for the full re-cap. I wonder if the Saks here will have any of the new Guerlains.
What a day!
Sounds like a great way to spend a day!
It’s me, reporting in! 😊 The pretentious place was Maison Luisant. The fragrances were nice, but the rose cardamom blend was really the standout. I thought about sniffing the shower gels, but was afraid I’d like one too much.
Brunch was delightful! I really enjoyed Calypso’s descriptions of life in Riyadh, and of course sniffing the treasures she bought. The most wonderful one might have been the essential oil blend in the dropper that was gifted to the symposium participants. It was a gorgeous blend of flowers and something ever so slightly sweet and powdery. The other two I really liked were a peach and rose blend, and a wonderful leather perfume. They were Reef #42 and #30 respectively. The packaging was to die for!
Saks had some newness to sniff, as Calypso said…I was excited to see a new Guerlain, Neroli Plein Sud, but it was way too sweet for me. We both agreed on the TF Myrrhe Mystere being fabulous. My “girls” are happy in the far drydown tonight. 😂 They were the only targets left after all the other spritzing I’d done. And yes, Vanilla Sex started out nice, but quickly became too sweet and almondy.
I went to Nordies and was able to get a sample of the TF Myrrhe and several samples of the Ginger Twilly. I think the SA was bored or lonely, as she talked a lot about her kitty issues she was having. The more she talked, the more samples she handed me, so I just let her talk. Hermes lipsticks, the two Delina flankers I haven’t tried…it was fun! I did feel bad about her kitty troubles, though.
Ended the tour with a visit to the Laderach chocolate store. They have delicious Swiss chocolate. It was just out of this world. They offered me a sample, but I left it at that. 🍫
I’m sorry I missed the Nordie part of your day, and I want to go meet that SA. I’d be delighted to share cat woes with her and gather samples as we talk!
I’ll definitely introduce you to her next time!
What a lovely day! Would love to have a fragrant friend to meet up with IRL
Today I wore Coco Noir.
Tomorrow morning I have to go to the hospital to have a nerve test. I don’t know what to expect. Between this and the upcoming blizzard this weekend, my mental nerves are shot.
Wish me luck!
Best of luck tomorrow. I can’t believe they didn’t tell you what to expect?! It might be worth your while to look it up on YouTube or google it. I’m not sure what exact test you’re having, but guess it might be nerve conduction studies? You’ll be less anxious if you know what to expect.
I just know it. Involves needing and shocking. It’s to find the source of the numbness I am having.
Good luck, lillyjo! It may not be all that bad. ❤️ Who knows, maybe your blizzard will be like ours – everyone in a tizzy, then only 3″ to be washed away the next couple of days by rain. Wishing you the best at the doctor’s appointment.
Thank you!
Fingers crossed for 3 inches!
Good luck 🍀
Thank you!
FWIW lillyjo, I would take the snow that you are supposed to be getting. The snowpack in Colorado is only at 68 percent right now, and some folks are starting to worry.
I saw plenty of winter wheat fields with no snow to cover them during my drive. That’s not good. The snow acts as insulation and protects the crop from harsh winter weather.
Sending you loads of good luck for tomorrow!!
Hugs and good luck wishes to you, lillyjo! I hope it goes quickly and gets to the root of the problem.
Hugs to you, lillyjo! Definitely treat yourself after the appointment tomorrow🍦💕
Good luck with the tests at the hospital, Lillyjo. Hope it’s painless and useful for your back problems.
Good luck tomorrow 🍀
Gonna keep this post short. My laptop is getting low on juice.
Tried getting more stuff done today before the Arctic Freeze sets up shop here this weekend. Highs are expected to be in the single digits for Saturday and Sunday.
Did a teeny tiny bit of sniffing today at ULTA. All the perfume is locked up, which is a sad sight. Devotion was exactly as lillyjo described. Nice, but not my thing. OTOH I was sorely tempted by an adorable little bottle of Coco EdP, but decided that I probably needed the $$$$ for groceries. Adulting is a bummer sometimes.
SOTD = back in the Boyfriend Body Creme. Trying to thunk what I have left of it this month. We shall see if I succeed!
The single digits! That’s not much of a welcome to CO, but I am sure you are going to get used to it, and I bet you will get SO much more sun there that you won’t mind the cold so much.
Hope Teflon Kitty is settling in.
Robin, I have experienced subzero temps in Colorado ages ago. You *never* get used to it, IMO. New Jersey is so much more temperate than Colorado that it’s been a shock to the system. Fortunately I still have a few pairs of wool ski socks.
Teflon kitty has been snuggling up to me as a giant hot water bottle lately. She still enjoys her kitty condos and the cat heating pad, but those are more daytime pursuits.
My husband’s family all lives in the Denver area, so we have observed the effects of some of the crazy winter temperature swings. One year, we visited in late February. The days we were there it was beautiful–highs in the 50’s and overnight lows in the 20’s, but a week before they had hit a low of around -15. We drove from Denver to Evergreen, and along the way we saw a creek that was completely frozen over, including a small (about 2′ high) waterfall just frozen in place.
Well, then may you live through it as gracefully as possible 🙂
But I still say the extra sunlight will be a bonus! Every day there is sun here I run out on the porch to soak some up, it’s so rare these past few weeks.
Have been mostly commando the last few days, finally sprayed Vanagloria a few hours ago. It’s my new comfort scent. I’ve really been enjoying Alambar (also Laboratorio Olfattivo) and will thunk that sample soon. I don’t think it’s groundbreaking, it’s just a lovely amber that makes me happy. And with prices these days, seems affordable.
I’ve been reorganizing my perfume and sample collection, and bought new containers and supplies to completely revamp my sample storage method. I’ll share details at the weekend. Found a marzipan sample in the process!
