It's Monday and the 5th night of Hanukkah. Also, International Mountain Day, and in Argentina, Día Nacional Del Tango. Happy 92nd birthday to Rita Moreno! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Fendi Theorema, but after a very long travel day yesterday I am too brain dead to say what they should have named it. I just know Theorema was not the right name. I'll try again tomorrow (or feel free to vote for your choice in the comments).
Reminder: on 12/15, wear whatever you like, but tell us the name your fragrance should have had. (If the name is perfect, that's an acceptable answer.) Someone suggested this recently, raise your hand if it was you!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I always thought Theorema was a weird name because it’s an Italian house but the Italian word is “teorema”. The Fendi sister who brought the brand to prominence in the nineties — when Theorema was launched — was Silvia Venturini Fendi, and so they should have named the scent after her: Ventura, which means “fortune, luck”, or L’Avventura, which means “adventure”, either one is good.
Today is a dismal grey rainy day — 13°C, which is shocking though not unprecedented for mid-December — and so I’m wearing CSP Vanille Banane for a bit of fun. No way you could rename this one: it’s the house style.
Darned cold here but we do have sun at least.
Ventura works alright, but to me it needs a “cozy” name.
Givenchy Neroli Originel
Should be called Musky Neroli Original
I am off to the library later today. Putting on some makeup…EL double wear and Revlon SLL in Cherries in the Snow. Do you have a favorite Revlon lippy? My other is Wine with Everything (pearl one)
Kanuka if you are reading this-my library doesn’t have that translated Japanese book you recommended. I tried an interlibrary loan, but because it’s new they won’t do it. So I wrote to my library and asked if they could purchase it. I know NYPL is in a tough spot with money these days, so if I don’t see it by next year I will try to purchase.
This SOTD didn’t really go with my outfit makeup, overall mood. I scrubbed it off and I am in Gris Charnel.
Hope they get it for you. I’ve just started Michael Cunningham’s latest, Day but plan to start my usual summer holiday “big classic” soon. Any suggestions for a favourite classic? Last year was Vanity Fair.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/books/2023/11/15/day-michael-cunningham-book-review/
Classics..Proust, something from the Bronte Sisters..I love the book Rebecca..Madam Bovary…
For one that you might not have read, The Count of Monte Cristo. Loved it! And long enough to last you all summer. 😄
My favorite Revlon is the ColorStay Liquid Lipstick in “Top Tomato”. I have so many of these. But I could still use more backups.
I have a colorstay one in couture-it’s a great shade.
I am also wanted to add Fire & Ice to my Revlon collection
I used to like Revlon’s “Toast of NY” and “Rum Raisin” back in the day.
Yes-Toast of NY! That is a great one.
I wore Revlon Icy Violet for years in the aughts. There’s probably still a tube in an old bag somewhere in my collection.
I’m wearing Chai Tea from Demeter. This should have been named Pretty Enough, but not Chai.
Lol
Excellent!
I am wearing Portrait of a lady, which is a lovely name, but I do not think it fits Isabel Archer (but I never finished that book).
Maybe “Rose goes to opera”?
I agree!
You smell great
“Rose Goes to the Opera” would make a great silent movie (and title).
A silent movie about opera is an interesting idea…
To me, it sounds more like the title of a chapter in a YA novel. 😂
I couldn’t remember the theme. Wearing Nicolai Patchouli Intense.
Hope you can get some rest and reset, Robin!
Thank you! Today will be just getting the house back in order and doing a quick grocery shop.
I am not a good traveler anymore, takes me several days to feel settled again.
I’m wearing Amouage Memoir Woman, and I’m not sure what I would have named this but probably not “Memoir”, a word that conjures up stacks of paper.
Many of the Amouage names are unappealing to me…I like the name Memoir but can’t remember the fragrance so would not know if it “matched” 😉
I’m wearing Yves Rocher En Avril Un Soir. This is a floral chypre, a type that always smells more autumnal than springlike to me. I would associate April with a floral or perhaps green scent, not a chypre. I am not sure either about a chypre being so much of an evening scent. I think it should have been named En Automne Un Soir or perhaps En Automne Un Jour.
I like En Automne Un Soir!
Hello.
Sotd is Tobacco Honey. Perfectly named, maybe Honey should come first though if I am being picky 😛
I agree — honey should come first, and otherwise the name describes exactly what it is, all the way through. 🙂 Truth in advertising!
Love your SOTD
I’m in Molecule 01, which probably could have been named cedar chest.
I’m down the last few mls so may stick with this one all week until it’s thunked.
I had a fairly productive weekend. Got the last of my wrapping done, ordered the shutterfly calendars for both sets of grandparents and made a new version of chicken and dumplings yesterday that was pretty delicious. The girls and I also finally decorated the tree that we got the weekend prior. We had so much fun. The ornaments we’ve collected and the kids have made over the years each have a backstory and it’s fun to hear their memories. Lots of giggling took place.
I could see that for Molecule 01! Glad to hear you had a wonderful weekend decorating. We did the same, but with less involvement from Ockeghem Teen, who was in surly girl-cave mode yesterday. She did come down and build the puzzle ornament and then put a few of her ornaments from elementary school on the tree.
I’m in Fat Electrician today for the CP. I can see “Electric Vanilla” for this, but the scent doesn’t really conjure up visions of plumber’s cracks for me. 🙂
The scent that would conjure that up probably wouldn’t sell very well. 😂
Stunningly gorgeous Arizona morning full of sunshine! We had to move house a bit earlier than planned due to Mother Nature. Now that we’re in Arizona, we will rarely, if ever, have any hook-ups so no air fryer meals for a while, which is a temporary bummer.
The work 💩 has already begun with emails, texts and calls. All the credentialing and testing is due all over again and I’m thoroughly sick of doing this…it’s enough to ruin your day. Wah, Wah, Wah…
However, we are boondocking in the middle of nowheresville and I’m loath to head into Tucson. We’re parked at the base of a mountain of loose boulders precariously balanced on one another. A gunshot or car backfiring might put them all in motion…😬 Apparently, I’ve parked next to the cattle highway. I kept hearing loose stone tumbling and sand whooshing. Next thing I know doggo is barking, which she hardly ever does except in play. I opened the door to see the back end of a cow sauntering along, all loose hipped and lazy, strolling after his kindred. I will say he looked pretty rough. I don’t know how cattle survive out here especially during the hot months.
To celebrate being in the heart of the desert with only my BFF for company (and the cows…) I’m wearing Tauer’s Au Couer du Desert. Still working on my 5ml cobalt bottle. So cute!
Robin, hope you have a restorative sleep tonight and wake tomorrow feeling more energized. 💤
Oh, and this scent is perfectly named! 👍🏼
Perfect scent for your surroundings! When I was in Arizona, I got to see wild horses.🐎
Hope you can deal with all the paperwork quickly and get back to enjoying the peace and quiet
Your SOTD *is* perfectly named.
Thank you Deva, and I hope those rocks stay put!
Hello all!
My SOTD is Cuir Beluga, from which I get absolutely no cuir at all, let alone beluga. This should have been named “Fluffy vanilla cream puff”.
I do love it, however. In fact, after using up two 10 mL decants, I just bought a bottle of it because it’s such a comfort scent for me.
Your suggested name made me laugh! I’ve never smelled your SOTD but leather and caviar always appeal to me. Now I know what I’d actually get!
Thanks!
I agree, it’s a vey lovely scent with nary a hide in sight! You smell great.
Thank you Austenfan!
Lovely! I always remember spellcheck and my Cuirass Beluga saga 😱
And I always snicker when I see the word “cuirass” now as a result.
I’m wearing Pretty Average ( aka Divine)…or, maybe, Good for a Tuesday. I don’t know; I’m not very good at this. I attempted a spot of Christmas shopping yesterday but lapsed into a daze after a few minutes and came home empty handed. I guess there’s always tomorrow.
“Good for a Tuesday” might be too much truth in advertising!
I’m spending the morning in Kerosene Broken Theories. Never have understood where “Broken Theories” came from, but am at a loss as to what to rename it — possibly something like Pipe Smoke And Amber In The Engine Room? They’d have to use a tiny font to fit all that on the label.
Pipe Smoke And Amber In The Engine Room actually sounds like a modern niche fragrance name!
I’m going to work in a different building today, with one of my now larger team. I’ve got people dotted all over the country, and one nearby based at the main hospital. It seems a bit to be going to the hospital to work in an office 🙂
I’m wearing Miss Dior, the original that I bought about 10 years ago.
You smell amazing !!
Theorema is a wonderful perfume. Fendi made a stupid decision to discontinue this one.
On day 2 of my vacation. Spent all day yesterday cleaning while wearing Avignon and helping my mom with stuff related to my grandmother. She isn’t doing that good and we are calling in hospice for my grandmother.
Wearing vintage Shalimar edt today.
Oh no Dawn, I am so sorry to read this! My thoughts to you, your mom, and grandmother.
Hospice is such a difficult decision.
Ouch about hospice. We ended up with both parents in hospice, dad at home (8 days) and mom for 3 weeks. Hopefully it comforts you and your family that no heroic efforts will be done to restore her back to how she was before her decline.
It’s a hard thing, Dawn.
We had hospice for both my mom and dad and there is a special place in heaven for hospice folks.
So sorry Dawn, that really is hard.
I’m wearing Masque Milano Lost Alice. I think the name is fine, but it could also have been something like Tea Party.
Theorema, is all orange and spice to me, but Arancia e Spezie doesn’t draw me in. Still trying to come up with something more fitting for this lovely fragrance. Something containing the word ‘Aurora’ (which means dawn) or ‘Alba’ (sunrise)? I know Profumum has an Alba so we’d need something a bit different.
Oops — no comma after Theorema in the 2nd paragraph. I know it’s anal to post again but it always bugs me when I do something like that.
This is like me taking pictures when one has the perspective of a line.
😀
Doe in the Snow, maybe should be named Doe cleaning windows in winter, because i smell window cleaning liquid. Anyway, its a funny scent…
Not so fun news… my boyfriends dad passed away last night almost a year after his mother died. I hope they are happy together now after more than 60years of marriage, planning another camping and biking trip. Still a sad day for the rest of us.
So sorry to hear that. It’s a hard time.
So sorry to hear that sad news! My best to you and your boyfriend.
I’m so sorry. Two losses so close together. It’s nice to imagine them reunited even if it’s hard for those left behind. I kind of expect the same thing with my dad, he lost his reason to live when my mom died two months ago after 58 years together.
Quite sorry to hear this. My sympathies to you and your boyfriend.
So sorry to hear this sad news. I’m thinking of you and your boyfriend.
My condolences. I hope he will be comforted to think of them together.
So sorry. There are never enough or the right words.
Wearing Pearlescent Baklava today, wanted to wear something I can actually smell after a couple of days of very quiet scents.
Trying to figure out what to do with my massive sample stash. Will send a few mails to local friends as I’m hoping to avoid $$$ postage expenses.
I have been thinking of listing a bunch of stuff on our local FB “gift everything” page…that way at least it would go to someone interested in perfume.
This is the problem with the sample stash. I would love to give samples to folks on here, but I don’t want to take on more commitments, and even GETTING to a post office is a 20 minute drive for me.
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
It was Mugler Miroir des secrets today which could be called Frosty Angel on account of its aldehydes over patchouli and tonight it’s Courtesan, haven’t worn it in ages, name doesn’t fit, I would call it Pinky as it comes in a pink box.
I’m hoping for an early night.
IIRC, lillyjo will comment about your SOTD every so often.
True it’s because we both own something from the Miroir series. I have two, wish I had more, it was a great series.
Wearing Jicky, which suits what I’m wearing just fine. “Une lavande charnelle” might be a suitable name as well.
That is a very close cousin to the English “charnel,” as in “charnel house” but I’m hoping it means something completely different in French..😬
It means carnal, not the other. 😉
I’m wearing Rhubarbe Ecarlate. I’d probably call it “Happy Rhubarb” because it makes me happy when I wear it, but then no one would buy it because of the dumb name.
“Rhubarbe Radieuse” would be nice, it is a very uplifting scent and probably my favourite of Nagels work for Hermès.
The alliteration is nice, too.
But a perfume named “Happy Rhubarb” might be able to use the Pharrell song in its marketing.
No attempt at the CP today. I’ll have to contemplate that one for a bit to even arrive at a Friday SOTD that fits the bill.
Instead I’m in Au Dela Narcisse.
I am hoping I come up with a name for Theorema by Friday…
Sampling Vanille Havane Extrait Absolu today and it’s quite nice. I liked the original but never bought a FB.
PSA: today’s Advent calendar deal for Luckyscent (no affiliation) is code TENFREE for 10% off and free shipping today only.
Damn, forgot about the advent calendar thing and I just bought a bottle at full price, silly me.
I won’t rag on you yet …
It starts on Jan. 1st. Only caveat is I have a $100 BG gift card that expires 5/24 so I will be buying one thing with that. 🙂
Yay! A loophole!
Lol.
Ugh 🙁 it’s not too obvious on the website and lots of the deal I could care less about so I often forget to check it. What FB did you buy?
Mona di Orio Dojima, because it’s been on my wish list for ages, and MdO has announced they have shut down operations temporarily but I’m worried it may become permanent, so I decided I better get it now just in case.
Busy day today! The highlights would be: dropped off paperwork for the sale with City Hall this morning, got a mover to walk thru the house for an estimate, and took Teflon kitty to the vet. Tef got into her new carrier fine, but threw up right before we got to the vet’s office. I suspect motion sickness.
SOTD = commando, but wearing Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream on my shins. It should have been called “Pistachio Caramel Delight” or something like that.
PS. Hope you are feeling more like yourself after a day or two of rest, Robin!
I will be tomorrow. Whole day of delayed flight nonsense is just wearing, plus did not get dinner til 11 so then I knew I would not sleep well.
Fingers crossed for an affordable estimate!!
Poor kitty! I give my dog trazodone for car & plane trips as her vomiting is due to anxiety.
The vet did give Teflon an antinausea med for her upcoming move that lasts 24 hours. But she is very difficult to pill…
But I should have not fed her a couple of hours before her vet appointment. I forgot that little detail today.
Woot! More things checked off the list! Are you driving to your new place in addition to the movers moving your stuff?
I might have to drive AND fly. I have a storage unit I can put stuff in that the movers won’t touch. For example, movers won’t take potent potables or perfumes. That stuff needs to be moved be land.
But Teflon kitty should probably fly out to spare her several days of travel by car.
That is absolutely crazy! Why on earth won’t they take perfume and “potent potables,” by which I’m assuming you mean alcohol..?
Because they are flammable and thus considered a hazmat. If you transport hazmats, there is a metric crapton of paperwork and regs to deal with. It makes perfect sense to me.
And yeah, I meant alcohol (good old EtOH!).
Ugh, that should be “BY land”. Did not mean to post in pirate speak!
I went back and re-read it in pirate voice. Thanks for the chuckle, I needed it!
Por nada!
Poor Teflon, hope she’s herself again. Hope the move turns out less expensive than thought.
Love the picture!
SOTD = Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver
Despite the name, this is patchouli all day every day. I am calling it Franken Vetiver in homage to the windup Frankenstein I pictured with it:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C0uroShx0yb/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
In other news, I finally got paid for my Election Day stint. Not bad for a day’s work!
And for those wondering, I will do my best to take you off the perfume precipice 🤣 (seriously).
Thanks for the moral support! 🙂
Huzzah for finally getting paid! 🤑
Glad you got paid!
Thanks for clarifying! 😂 Though I do sort of love the idea of an Enabler Demon
Wore Jolie Madame today. Although it’s a lovely name, it doesn’t hint at its depths. It’s much more than just “pretty.” Unless I’m missing something in the translation….
I might rename it “Violettes en Cuir.”
Lovely scent, AnnE!
Thanks, Gail!
I love Jolie Madame!!
It’s one of my desert island scents, no doubt about that.
I like your name!
Thanks, lillyjo! How are you holding up? On Wednesday. You can start your countdown: the 12 days before Christmas. 😁
AnnE… I am tired!
No CP today; I was looking in my samples and found Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours, which I never heard of. I forget who gifted it to me, but I am delighted with the plum, spices, florals, and leather. The very sharp pink pepper opening is not my favorite part, but it does brighten the other notes.
Is Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours anything like the Natori perfume in the cool purple bottle?
Not really, but it does have more floralcy than BV.
Agree, though the plum in BV edv did remind me of plummy Natori, which I love.
I’m bummed I missed out on Eau Velours. I love the original very much.
A seller on Ebay found a number of apparently NIB .25 oz minis, and is selling some for a decent price *if* Eau de Velours was a love for me. I think I’ll enjoy finishing my sample and move on. I have the Natori and Forever Midnight by B&BW. FM is way-out gourmand, but yet has that cozy plum.
I’m not participating today, but I wore 4160 Tuesdays Both Sides of Clouds.
I made a batch of Toblerone shortbread for Christmas on the weekend. I’m giving a dozen to my in-laws so the cookies have to stay in the fridge. Out of sight, otherwise we’ll just eat them. Might have finally perfected the recipe by softening the butter slightly in the microwave so it could be easily blended into the dough. Just leaving it on the counter overnight to soften didn’t seem enough as it was still fairly solid in the morning. Plus having chunks AND grated Toblerone mixed in the dough seems like the perfect balance. And a few chunks on top of the cookie (so you know what you’re eating!)
Sounds yummy! And time consuming.
They are ridiculously yummy. Good thing I make them just at Christmas.
They don’t take that much time; the chocolate takes the longest prep. They go fairly fast after that.
Your perfume and cookies are fabulous!
Thank you, cazaubon! Are you making butter tarts this year?
Yes of course! It’s our annual tradition as my husband’s birthday is boxing day and it’s his favorite treat.
That’s lovely! 💕
Those cookies sound amazing!
Thank you; they’re so good. And everyone loves them! Here’s the recipe I use if you’re interested. I chopped and grated the chocolate instead of the giant chunk on top. The salt seems to make all the difference.
https://www.foodnetwork.ca/recipe/shortbread-cookies/
Thank you!
Robin, I love today’s image.
I wore Iris 39 for a day at the office and a low key holiday luncheon for my department. I can’t think of what it should have been named, but Le Labo is notorious for the name not matching the scent. Iris 39 is definitely too simplistic for this beauty!
Don’t you just want to be standing there looking at that view??? Preferably in warm weather 🙂
I’m definitely having a Monday today.
I didn’t know the cp and 24 Faubourg called my name. I think the name matches perfectly. Fancy name for a fancy perfume.
Everyone I interacted with at City Hall this morning was saying “Yep, it’s Monday”.
You smell nice and perfumey. 🙂
At least you smell wonderful!
The perfect fancy fragrance to take the edge off a Monday💃
But you smell wonderful, hope today is a better day.
I wore Lampblack this morning and that’s the perfect name for it. I wore Sycomore in the afternoon, also a good name. This evening I sampled Comme des Garcons Ganja, and thought I might be getting high. I’m striking out miserably on the cp but will be back at it bright and early tomorrow☀️☀️☀️
Lampblack is a cool name. How do people come up with these?!
