It's another Monday, plus National Cookie Day. Birthdays: Rainer Maria Rilke, Jeff Bridges, Jay-Z. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm going to be traveling most of this week and don't expect to accrue many community project points, so I'm banking one in advance today with Bvlgari Omnia, made by Spanish perfumer Alberto Morillas.
Reminder: on 12/8, we're off to Spain! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Spain, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Spain, or that features an Spanish ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Gijón, Asturias [cropped] by Gabriel Villena at flickr; some rights reserved.
I’m not even going to try for a week, but it’s good to know that Omnia counts (for Friday). Today I’m in Sandalo Misore concentrato by I Profumi di Firenze: a splash of citrus and bitter greens up top, then an immense block of sandalwood. It’s so meditative.
That sounds lovely.
You also have some Dali perfumes?
Hello.
Sotd is LV Myriad.
I lived in Spain for a few years back in the day and I remembered that while perfume being an important part of their lives, well known Spanish houses are few and scarce…off the top of my head I can think of Loewe?
Interesting fact – (at least for my 3 bottles) Prada Candy is made in Spain! If I wear it, will there be partial CP points?
I am guessing there are many more Spanish perfume houses nowadays. If you know any please do tell! 😀
Loewe, Paco Rabanne, Zara, Carner Barcelona, Carolina Herrera, Alvarez Gomez
The end of the community project is a “?” so you can decide what counts for points!
Oh, adding Ramon Monegal!
And Balenciaga
Jesus del Pozo, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada
for cheap thrills there’s always the venerable Maja
Guys, you don’t have to wear a scent by a Spanish house. It is not even in the CP’s description.
I researched and found out that a lot of perfume ingredients are apparently sourced in Spain. Sure, it’s not like Spain is the main country of origin for all of them, and nowadays synthetics are often used to create a certain note, but here is the list I made.
labdanum (that one is very Spanish!)
blood orange
rosemary
myrtle
juniper berries
ambergris
lemon
lavandin
mint
majoram
saffron
immortelle
lavender
oakmoss
mandarin
apricot
beeswax
bitter orange
thyme
peach

As for me, I am not feeling very well (a cold), so I am commando. I will select something after a shower and report.
Went with Cipresso di Toscana. I know it is an Italian name, but it has rosemary, lavender and oakmoss, and this herbal concoction is just what my sinuses need right now.
Thank you for doing all of this research for us, Glannys. You just upped my cp game this week😊
Thanks for the list, Glannys! Hope you are feeling better soon.
Labdanum immediately came to mind for Spanish ingredients. Thank you for doing the research and providing us this list. Hope you feel better soon!
I did not associate labdanum with Spain at all! Only when looking for information for this CP I found out that it comes from Spain. Spain is also a big supplier of blood oranges (sanguinello variety) and rosemary oil.
I probably benefitted from reading Jean-Claude Elena’s Atlas of Perfumed Botany this past year
Excellent!
Impressive list, thank you Glannys, feel better soon, I love the Blu Mediterraneo line so much.
Thank you for doing that research! Hope that your cold is short lived, and you are feeling like yourself again soon.
Safe travels Robin!
I had no idea what I was going to do for this week’s cp, then my Zara samples arrived and it looks like Zara is from Spain, so there you have it.
Today I’m in Livre Blanc which is just lovely. Fragrantica says this is a men’s fragrance 🤔 but I think it is definitely unisex. The first reviewer says it’s a perfume they grab when not wanting to wear perfume, and I would agree. I am a big fan of skin scents. This line is SO cheap! Unbelievable.
Big enabler pin goes to Miss Goldsmith for alerting me that Shalimar MI was available on qvc.👑 Ordered! Good deal with that discount code.
Shalimar on qvc!!!
Byredo also! and with a coupon:)
Ha! I know, right?! That was my first thought as well, but sure enough, it was there!😀
Thank you!
Excellent! I love being an enabler
👍🤩
Glad that you got the Shalimar MI after all!
Thanks Jalapeno! My wallet may be less glad.😉
I’ll be saving Le Dix for Friday, and maybe I’ll dig out Balenciaga Paris mid-week. But this morning I’m testing Hiram Green Shangri-la and Arcadia on opposing wrists. So far, Shangri-la is very nice, and Arcadia needed a heavier application but might be even nicer. I’ll be commando later because I’ve stopped wearing scent to pilates — my instructor is pregnant and I worry that perfume might incite a negative reaction. And the studio has a no-scent policy anyway … but I used to flout that regularly. Not any more, at least not until the baby’s out and making aromas of his/her own. 💩😂
LOL!
I’m also very conscious of foisting my scent choices on others. (All my enjoyment of “challenging” or vintage is done at home.)
Went to dance class for the first time in months yesterday (many external reasons why this break), and wore LL Bergamote 22 (first bottle after I fell down rabbit hole) because it’s so neutral no one can object.
I was so bored 😂
Today is a Prada Infusion d’Iris kind of day. Have an errand to run and finally getting that Cyber Monday Bath and Body Works order. It seemed like it went all over Ohio first. Let’s see if my Candle Day orders arrives soon.
I love your SOTD
What is it with wayward shipments lately? So many people I know are having that happen right now.
I know that we are in the holiday season. That means more sales and more things being shipped but sheesh. I made an Amazon order yesterday and I won’t get it until Saturday, and I am a Prime member.
In Carner Barcelona D600 for the CP.
Happy Monday!🌻
You smell wonderful!
Thank you! 😊
I’m wearing Boyfriend today, perfect for cold wetness outside. I have to run some errands which means I have to leave my house which is too bad because I’m very cozy here with Larry the cat.
The FaceTime opening of the Portland Leather mystery box with my mom and sister was so much fun! We each got a mini tote and some of the ten extra items. Through the whole thing the Parks and Recreation Treat Yourself line kept going through my head “fine leather goods!”
https://youtu.be/gSjM5B3QNlw?si=CijwS96dUsmUd3Bn
Mom’s house smelled fabulously of leather 🙂
Cat coziness is so hard to leave!
Definitely. And they look so cute in the duvet/blanket.
I’m glad your video meet-up was a success!
You had a hat trick of great things today: your SOTD, snuggles with Larry the Cat, and your FaceTime!
I’m wearing Lush’s Lust this morning, in solid form as it cuts down on the grape candy a bit for me as opposed to the liquid.
You smell wonderful!
Wearing Fève Gourmande on this chilly morning. Since I’m doing yoga on zoom from my bedroom, I can spray as much as I want! 🙂
Is this the new Gourmand Coquin? If yes, I suppose reformulation did not affect it much.
Yes, it’s Gourmand Coquin. Smells fine to me.
Byredo- makeup, lipstick and perfume. Bal d’Afrique , lippy in 201, and the eye pallet Dysco
Library today …
Fancy library wear 😉
I am competing with those chic lions 🦁
Joining Robin in Omnia by Bvlgari.
Lovely sunny day again today and the temps are predicted to be a little warmer and less windy. It’s basically T-Shirt weather. We’re off on a walkabout. Happy Monday!
Your weather is wonderful, enjoy your walkabout.
Wonderful weather at this time of year always leaves me wondering when the hammer will fall.
Hey twin!
I was not prepared for this week’s CO, but i just happened to have a sample of Alguien Cologne No 2 in my “to try” pile. (They’re from Barcelona.)
In spite of its being a fougere, I found the eponymous original quite interesting. The new one is intriguing also, not your usual cologne.
Fougeres and I usually do not get along. I’d much rather smell something like that on a passerby…
Same here. I don’t usually get along with lavender, so fougeres are no-go territory for me.
I will wear something inspired by Barcelona this week! It’s the only place in Spain I’ve been…
The only time I’ve seen Barcelona is from my armchair, watching the Whit Stillman movie. 😁
That was a great movie.
Well, and I forgot to pack anything that would remind me of Barcelona anyway, ha.
CP compliant today in Maja by Myrurgia. This is an old favorite cheap thrill that was long once of my go-to perfumes for when I couldn’t decide what perfume to wear. It also was a standard travel choice for me, since the flat bottle packs well in my cosmetic bag, and it was cheap enough that I didn’t have to worry about it (breakage, forgetting it in a hotel room, etc.). I have read that it, too, has succumbed to reformulation, so I don’t know whether the current version is any good, but my ~15 year old bottle still hits the spot.
Good play! You smell nice.
Oh, that reminds me that I have a mini of this that I’ve never actually tried. I think this is the week to do it!
Great choice, I like that one, I have an old bottle too, still smells lovely.
I’m wearing Carner Barcelona D600 today, so twins with perfumelover67. I love this fragrance so much, it’s appropriate any where, any time.
I am wrapping Christmas gifts this morning, I have to mail them before I leave for the beach because there won’t be time after I get home. Am I the only one who has second thoughts about what I bought for people earlier in the year? I seem to think of “better” things as Christmas gets closer.
I used to have that problem when I did shopping in advance!
On my one visit to Spain, we stayed in Seville in spring and the streets were full of the smell of orange blossom, so that’s my interpretation of the CP (unless I have another inspiration!).
I’m starting with my recent purchase of Arquiste’s L’Or de Louis.
How lovely.
Slept 10 hours. Clearly not employed yet. 🙁
Going to test Oud Pagode post shower.
Any one read or listen to Lisa Sees’ new book, Lady Tan and the Circle of Women?
So wonderful. I have been driving a lot recently due to my friend whose dad died and have been able to listen a lot longer than usual.
I read it. It was good.
I’m in Cola by Hendley Perfumes because it came to mind as a good pairing with the Lush Hot Toddy shower gel I just started using. They both have lots of spices and orange oil in their composition, plus Cola has a labdanum note so does double duty as working with the CP. Labdanum was the first perfume ingredient from Spain that came to mind. And I’m loving how I smell today, which is the best thing of all. I do wish we weren’t in for a whole week of rain, but I’m holding out a little hope that I may be able to get out for a walk at least one of these evenings.
You smell great!
Yuck. An entire week of wet weather is only enjoyable if you are a duck! 🦆
Wearing Felanilla today for comfort, and because the saffron note is CP-compliant. It’s going to be miserable hard rain all day, apparently.
Can I just briefly rant about companies that don’t allow you to put gift notes in packages? I need to send gifts from the UK to my in-laws there, and one of the skincare companies my sister-in-law likes doesn’t do wrapping or gift messages at all, while Les Senteurs will wrap the gift but not put in a gift message so they know who it’s from. ???? I’m not sure trying to explain to my BIL that he needs to put a tag on it is going to work, as this isn’t really his thing.
You smell good!
What’s with the retailers? Is it only the U.K. ones? Usually, it’s a box that you check off that it’s a gift and you can even compose a short note!
Regarding your comment yesterday on ChatGPT 3.4, I haven’t had to do any sort of cover letter for myself ever (don’t ask, even though I’ve written one for a friend) so it was helpful to get suggestions. You are right though with having to heavily edit the results. Maybe we’re just perfectionists or it failed in its attempt or both?
Yeah, I’m wondering if it’s a UK thing? Because the one skincare company has a Canadian site and I can do a gift message and gift wrap on that, but when I switch to the UK site for UK delivery, their FAQ says they don’t have any sort of gift option.
This is the side of the family that always sends us gifts without any sort of note, but they did that well before they moved to the UK. (These days when a mystery box shows up, we just assume it’s from them.)
That is annoying!
SOTD is Shalimar MI, since my QVC gift set just arrived. Nice. I’m not sure it bears sufficient resemblance to Shalimar to really be a flanker? But I love Guerlainade + Iris so I don’t really care about marketing accuracy.
I’d say that loving your new perfume purchase is far more important than fidelity to the OG Shalimar.
Indeed. And the reverse would be a tragedy!
Raeburn apples and yogurt smoothie
Robin, safe Travels.
It was Diorling this morning (Les Créations de M. Dior version, Best of the Line, I find) this morning, half-bottle left, I’ve worn it so much, a few months back I also got a half bottle of the vintage which is lovely, they are different and both good. Tonight it’s La Petite Robe Noire Couture, so waving to Lillyjo since we both have this version.
Is the Les Creations de M. Dior version of Diorling the current one?
A little late, I wasn’t on NST yesterday, yes it’s the version available today, my bottle is from a few years ago, 7 or 8 IIRC.
Thank you Aurora, and lucky you to have 2 versions of Diorling!
Trish McEvoy n9 today – will be repurchasing this when i run out! Which is much sooner than any other scent, since it fades quickly so I spray often throughout the day. Since I work from home now, it’s perfect.
Seattle PSA – there’s a new Bloomingdale’s that opened in the University Village, next to the Anthropologie where the H&M used to be. They have Maison Francis Kurdijan, Perfumes de Marly, Dyptique, some Memo, Sisley, some Montale, a few designer brands, Byredo, and some other lines that I can’t recall off the top of my head.
the salespeople are not paid on commission, so it was a super fun browsing experience. They were more interested in chatting and exploring than pushing anything.
A wonderful surprise!
I think Aurora wears your SOTD on a regular basis.
It is just so pleasant! If I only had 5 bottles this would be one of them.
Bloomingdales! I’ll have to go down there when we’re in Seattle at the end of the month, though I hate getting into the mess that is U Village.
Ooh thanks for the tip on Bloomingdales!
Enjoying my birthday in Luten’s Ambre Sultan and I smell good! Lunch with a dear friend who shares this birthday week with me and plans with my sister for later in the week–all is good. I am wishing for a joyful end of year and a happy, healthy year ahead….the same for all of you, my fragrant friends.
Happy birthday 🎂 jepster! I know you smell good – my bottle is newer and the juice smells like ashtray.
Ashtray?!? Wow.
sorry to hear that, mine is almost as old as I am so it still smells wonderful…
Happy Scented Birthday jepster! Enjoy your birthday week.
Thanks Jalapeno–will try to keep the party going…
Happy birthday!
Thanks, I’ll have some cake for you!!
Happy Birthday!
Thanks so much–we really need to enjoy these days as much as we can!
Happy Birthday! You DO smell good!
Happy birthday jepster, and hope all those wishes come true!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, jepster! Sounds like you have a wonderful birthday week ahead. 🎂
Happy belated birthday! You smelled great!
Happy travels Robin!
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Burnt Cedar Rainbow Doves and Chanel Les Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon EDT
Not layered because I can’t imagine them working well together! The 4160 Tuesdays was worn pre-haircut and the Chanel post hair-cut. I know I need a haircut when the bottom of my hair becomes unruly (ok, it curls up in the most unsatisfying pose) and my eyes can barely see through the curtain of my bangs.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C0cs2odx5pK/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
The most popular word in 2023 is: rizz, as in charisma but wokified by Tom Holland during an interview. The word even bested Swifitie!
You really have A Thing for 4160 Tuesdays!
You smell great!
My hair does that, too. Only one side, frustratingly…basically both sides want to curl the same direction, so one side curls in like it should, and the other curls out. I’m in max annoying curl phase — nothing I can do with a straightening iron can get rid of the outward curl. So annoying because otherwise my hair is dead straight.
I know the word “rizz” and how it is used, but I had no idea it comes from “charisma”. Thank you!
Thank you hajusuuri!
Posting late today.
I now have 4 estimates for my move. One was a whopping $18K! Yikes! Too rich for my blood.
Trying to get other things buttoned up as well, but it’s a very messy process.
SOTD = commando, except for Korres Grecian Gardenia body butter on my shins.
PS. Safe travels Robin! The regulars will hold down the fort here at NST.
Thank you! 18k!!!
If you have job lined up there, $18K would be a different story! That said, that is an a$$-load of money!
That was an “Expedited” move. Their less costly option is between $7000 and $8000, but takes longer.
I’m figuring this move will cost me around $10K when all is said and done.
Earlier today I was buzzing around in a beeswax fragrance, Zoologist Bee from a generous NSTer and CP compliant thanks to Glannys’s list of notes from Spain.
This evening I have been wearing Encre Noire and have fallen head over heels again for this amazing fragrance.
