It's (Teapot) Tuesday and National French Toast Day. Birthdays: William Blake, Nancy Mitford, Berry Gordy, Randy Newman, Jon Stewart, Martin Clunes. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Arquiste Indigo Smoke. Tea at the moment, to match my fragrance, is Upton Mao Feng organic with a tiny pinch of Upton Lapsang Souchong Imperial.
Reminder: on 12/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's December. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, joy or good luck for the month.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Pfaltzgraff Winterberry Teapot ("Enjoy your tea at a leisurely pace, knowing that when you want to refresh your cup, the water in your heat-retaining teapot will still be warm. Constructed of earthenware") is $24.99 at Pfaltzgraff.
That tea sounds amazing. Someone just brought me coffee. I’m in Parfum de Therese-I have a 2 ml sample, and it’s beautiful. What a beautiful tribute to the person you love, to make something so special and so unique.
Hoping for a decent day to all the lovely NST peeps:)
I really got into growing roses in my garden (as you might guess from my screen name), and especially antique roses. Many old rose varieties were named after people; one of the tips I read was that if a rose variety was named after the rose breeder’s wife or daughter, it is probably a very good one, since he would not have wasted his wife’s or daughter’s name on an inferior variety, but would want to honor them by naming the very best varieties after loved ones.
That is a brilliant tip!
Coffee brought to you by someone else is even better than tea 🙂
And you smell fantastic.
I’m in Dear Polly for teapot Tuesday, layered over Lush’s Dream Cream because the season of cold, dry air is definitely here.
Sun and blue skies today.🌞 Tea is a vanilla latte.😉
I’m so thankful the sun is shining! It was 19 degrees this morning!
Me too!😎 I think we are supposed to have sun again tomorrow.
We had 13 this morning!🥶
Love the tea pot Robin!
Tea this morning Café au lait and then a Mariage Freres tea after the library 📚
SOTD Shalimar Tonka over Shalimar body lotion.
Your tea this morning sounds great- I love a good smoke tea. But I also love scotch- so smoke is my thing
I love scotch, too 🙂
It’s a big move for me- we keep two bottles at home.
And affordable, for once!
I’m feeling the tea vibe wearing au The Noir, my favorite of the line. However my drink of choice is a large diet coke from Sonic, with a packet of True Grapefruit added. I love that teapot, and unlike many shown on NST, I can actually afford it.
Yes, it’s the rare cheap thrills teapot 🙂
Today I’m in nineties-era Grès Cabochard, which at its heart is a floral, but it’s a chypre dominated by bitterness and oakmoss, and it makes me so happy.
Love Cabochard. My bottle is newer but it still smells great.
Cabochard is a gem and I bet it was even better in the nineties.
I just acquired a current formulation bottle, and love it. Never sniffed it in the 90s, so at least I can’t miss what I never knew. You smell great!
I recently thunked a bottle of Cabochard from the nineties, and my new bottle smells just the same to my nose.
Cabochard has now made it on to my “Must Sniff” list after your description.
Feeling comfortable and casually elegant this morning in SL Bois et Fruits (from my 20 y.o. bell jar, this stuff ages well). A good fit with a cold, snow covered, sunny day.
mmmm, yes it does.
Hi all, it’s chilly today! My SOTD is Wrappings by Clinique. Sadly, the company confirmed it’s ‘retired’, aka, discontinued. I treasure my bottle and will enjoy every drop. I love the ozone, marine, herbs, leather, patchouli notes. There truly isn’t anything like it.
If anyone has ideas as to a similar perfume, I’m all ears!
I suspected as much since I don’t think I saw it listed on their website last year or the year before. I cherish my bottle also because it’s such a special scent. 😢
It is so unique! So difficult to find anything similar.
It’s sad that Wrappings has been discontinued. I don’t think that Clinique discontinued too many perfumes. Not like they ever had a huge lineup of perfumes.
That’s a shame about Wrappings. I always enjoyed Simply, do you remember it? A pretty tea scent, now long gone.
I loved Simply! There’s a perfume shop similar to Perfumania that carried it a few years ago. I should have snapped that one up when I had the chance!
Thanks for confirming! I had been checking periodically again this year and noticed it’s glaring absence. I’m so glad that I have a bub.
SmokeyToes – have you tried the ELC site Gone but Not Forgotten?
consumercare-US@gcc.gbnf.estee.com
When I was consulting with them 2 years ago, I found some things that were still available but not on shelves or on websites.
No, I had no idea about the gone but not forgotten, I should check this out!
Thanks so much apsara!
Huge bummer about the discontinuation confirmation for Wrappings.
Aromatics Elixir is in the same family to my nose. YMMV.
I adore AE as well, have a very vintage bottle that I treasure!
Hello.
Sotd is Lipstick Rose. This makes me feel so pretty even though I am just wearing a plain jumper.
Made myself a mug of peppermint latte so my toast is less lonely.
Toast and peppermint latte sounds fantastic, Lipstick Rose just makes it better 🙂
Currently in SDV today. Not looking forward to making the trek to work this afternoon.
I join you in not looking forward, although in my case, groceries & errands.
I’m in a scrubber (name withheld to protect the innocent) that I tried washing off then covered the lingering scent with Prada Candy. Which inadvertently fits with the tea theme, as one of my favorite teas is caramel tea.
I want to know this name! Lol.
Me too! Were all guilty here for one reason or another.
I mustn’t! It’s over $200! It has so many notes I usually love! The perfumer is well respected, even beloved! I blame my body chemistry…and oak moss. Foul stuff.
We still want to know! 😝
I am embarking on a three year project to actually wear the perfumes I already own rather than constantly chasing after the next new thing. I’ve stopped ordering samples. Today I’m wearing one of my first niche purchases, L’Eau d’Hiver, bought at the dearly departed Barneys.
The fragrance basement at Barneys was a frequent stop during visits to NYC…first smelled the Malles there. Initially tried L’eau d’Hiver, but didn’t actually fall for & purchase till years later.
It’s so hard to stick with one’s collection & not chase after all the shiny new things!
“It’s so hard to stick with one’s collection & not chase after all the shiny new things”
THIS! THIS! THIS!
I will join you in this project!! I will try not to get anything new and enjoy what I already have.
Yay!! 🙂
Why 3 years?
Because I have 1,000+ bottles of perfume. :-0
OK, you have me beat. I only have 200+ bottles.
Oh this makes me feel so much better!
Glad to be of service. :-). If you can’t be a good example you can at least be a fair warning!
Ooooh, are you secretly Donatella?!
I guess I am! But I don’t have her fabulous bathroom. 😉
Thank you for making me feel not ridiculous. 😊 Still not at 150 yet so I guess I can carry on
I may copy you on this project!
🙂 cool!
Wow! Three years? How about wear the ones you have AND chase the new ones? Just an idea.😉
See my comment above about the size of my collection. 😉
OMG that is a lot.
That’s a great project!
WOW.
https://youtu.be/jjaqrPpdQYc
LOL. 🙂 You can feel happy you don’t have to move such an enormous collection to your new place. When I had to move half of it back from Canada it weighed the car down so much my husband was afrais the tires would blow out.
Wearing Femme by Rochas this morning and then it will have to be quiet scents for the week as our CEO is visiting. I’ll have to make up for it by wearing something loud on the weekend.
You smell great! I keep flirting with a bottle of Femme on Ebay.
I have thought about it too. It is very inexpensive on some of the fragrance sites.
Hi all. What a pretty teapot!
Replica By the Fireplace is my sotd. Perfect for a cold, snowy day.
That is a great scent for this cold weather!
Only left the coziness of my rolling bungalow a few times to take doggo out yesterday. Today is looking much better- cool with lots of sunshine and only a very mild breeze. In other words, PERFECT!!
Wearing Tauer Vanilla Flash which smells more like Spice Flash on me. The longer I have it, the better it gets. All my scents are aging quite well which makes me quite happy. I only wish I could macerate my body and soul to be as lovely over time.
Tea of the Day was two cups of Pumpkin Spice coffee with some sourdough toast. T-Rex felt no need to arise from her cozy cocoon until I actually started rummaging around in her kibble bag. Huge yawn, biiiig stretch as she unearthed herself from all the warm layers before she deigned to act like a hungry dog and hop down to eat her breakfast. She’s looking at me rather accusingly right now because there’s no egg. It’s hard life for a little doggo. 🙃
It’s been in the 20s here in Chicagoland for the last 2 days, with a windchill of 12. Can handle the cold if it isn’t windy–lucky for you it was calm yesterday.
Was reading NYT’s list of 100 best books of 2023 last night, and reader comments are always the best part. Several commenters decried the lack of poetry selections, and someone mentioned a new compilation by Jane Hirshfield–here’s one appropriate for wintertime wildlife sightings:
https://poets.org/poem/three-foxes-edge-field-twilight
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Waiting for the bus in school skirt in howling winds, too cold to even move in an attempt to keep warm. Shoveling snow paths through six foot drifts from the front door to driveway, then the entire driveway, then the back deck so little dachshunds didn’t get lost in the snow, my dad on the roof shoveling snow off so it wouldn’t collapse…no thanks, never doing back to the Land of Lincoln, although the city is the bomb on cool autumn days and warm spring afternoons.
I do love Jane Hirshfield! I’m missing poetry, too. A whole bookshelf of poetry books donated when I started traveling, along with hundreds of other books. Thank you for the poem! It’s lovely and especially fitting for this time of year. 🦊
I AM thrilled another Irish author won the Booker Prize, though. I’m a bit partial for many reasons. Looking forward to either picking up a physical book or hoping it comes out in Audible soon.

Sunshine here too!
Awesome! I hope it’s the start of many, many days of sunshine in your part of the world! 🌞
Sunshine triplets for a little while with you and lillyjo!
WooHoo! 🌞🙌🌞
Happy birthday to William Blake, whose name I can never see or hear without hearing it in Susan Sarandon’s voice from that scene in Bull Durham, shouting “I mean WILLIAM BLAKE!” at Kevin Costner. Love that movie. Anyway, my SOTM is Mojave Ghost, and I’m kind of hoping it will have faded by early afternoon for a dentist appointment.
Good luck at the Dentist!
Thanks!
Dentist twins today. I oddly like going to the dentist. I love having clean teeth.
I love having them too, but increasingly I hate the process to get there. 🦷
Hope that the NSTers who had dentist appointments today had nice, boring ones!
I was too tense to be bored. 😬
I loved this movie! I don’t quite remember that scene, since I haven’t watched it since it came out. Will have to watch it again.
I guess it was dentist day today, since I was at mine, too! A new practice, which I like because everyone was very thorough and competent. Looks like my ancient silver fillings have finally worn out and need to be replaced. Que sera sera.
Ohhh, it is SO worth rewatching!
It’s on the list. ✔️
Not looking forward to the day when my old silver fillings will have to go.
So far, so good though.
You young whippersnapper, you. 😉
Anyone else looking forward to tonight’s Fargo ep? It’s the little things in life!
Tea was Harney’s Colombian Black and sotd is Rose Cherie.
And since I’ve heliotrope on the brain, am intrigued by the news that the next addition to Les Exclusifs will be Comet, featuring heliotrope.
Thanks for the heads up. After a fragrantica search for heliotrope fragrances, it appears I don’t have any in my collection but I’m always excited to try a new Exclusif!
I can’t believe they named it Comet! 😂
At least they didn’t name it Cupid!
😄 Actually, what came to my mind was the cleanser.
Oh, interesting! Will be curious to follow the PR on this one
Another Fargo fan here!
Tea is a jasmine & rose blend from France. It smells and tastes amazing!!
I am wearing Ani, feeling ready for a very busy day at work.
And it sounds amazing! Hope it improves the busy day.
Wow, your Tea of the Day sounds gorgeous!
SOTD is Iris Torrefie, because the decant that was “missing” magically appeared exactly where it should have been, so that’s some good luck right there.
Will circle back to read comments later. On breakfast break, but gotta get back to the computer
Yay for good luck!
SOTD = Imaginary Authors Blend No.83
Smells good if you like individual parts of a perfume. It needs time to macerate to make a smoother blend. cazaubon, it does smell like a version of Black Phantom!

PSA not of the perfume kind from IG – for those who may have upgraded to iPhone IOS 17, please go to the gear, General, Air Drop and make sure you have the setting OFF for Bringing Devices Together unless you want to share your contact info with strangers nearby. The setting was defaulted to ON which perplexes me…
Thanks for the PSA. Done.
2nd. Everything about the new ios annoys me.
Wow! Scary!
I just read that today and reset to “off” on my phone. Very annoying.
I would also add make sure your microphone is set to OFF! If it’s ON it can listen to your conversations while on the phone and even more disturbing, when you’re off your phone and just chatting with family, friends, etc…
I turned it off for most apps, but left on for Zoom and Googlemaps. Not sure if that was right?
Thanks for the report on 83!
The new iOS bricked my phone, it is now non-functional. Called support, they said I was not the first to have this issue. I advise you do NOT update to this new iOS until they get the bugs fixed. I may have to actually replace my phone because of this.
Thank you for that. Done.
I told my brother about that iPhone update. Hope he doesn’t have it.
Thankful I have an Android phone when I hear about things like this.
Ruh roh. I just upgraded. Thanks for this tip!
Scentless, as I have a check up this afternoon. Eager to apply something later.
The sun is shining on this very cold day – it’s currently 22F, and won’t get much warmer. But☀️!
Hope that your check up went well!
Wearing Zara Livre Blanc for a brisk morning walk and the joy that I feel wearing Olivia Giacobetti fragrances.
Can you smell much of this? It looks like there is not a lot to it when I read the notes, but maybe it is great. I like some of Olivia Giacobetti fragrances.
Also wondering! I was pretty close to getting a bottle.
It’s quite a light, ephemeral fragrance. I enjoy it in the moment but it doesn’t last long.
Was that the only Zara fragrance you picked up?
I also picked up Vapeur Blanche and Popeline Blanche. They’re also fleeting but lovely. I didn’t get Blanc Ensoleille because I’m not a fan of coconut.
It’s chilly here in Los Angeles – all things being relative.
Robin, lovely teapot.
SOTD will be Cuir Velours – Naomi Goodsir, since I found the bottle during the weekends’ clear out.
You smell great!
Looks like today’s teapot is a hit 🙂
SOTD is Rogue Champs Lunaries. Felt like a little tuberose today.
To Jalapeno-You were asking about Scheels yesterday. I am not sure where you will be living in Colorado, but they have a few stores in that state.
I am off this week and really looking forward to some relaxed time at home. Scentless for the dentist and then went to shopping center for some Christmas shopping and sniffing. I decided PDM Althair wasn’t for me.
Have to echo what everyone says about Zara perfumes – they punch way above their weight. I stopped there solely to sniff whatever I could. Very annoying that the perfume display was right where the checkout line was and people had to keep asking me if I was in line. Almost abandoned my quest but then decided it should not be my problem that I have to be there in the way.
I liked a lot of what I tried. I came out with my left arm smelling gourmand/oriental and right with musky floral. Prices are so good. I resisted buying anything just because I am over the limit for 2023. Maybe I will return in January 2024
Maybe Zara can produce such good perfumes because they don’t spend so much on packaging and marketing?
I was just checking their website, which is a bit annoying to traverse. Some I’m really tempted by and the price is right up my alley. If you do succumb to temptation and get a bottle (or two, or three!😇) please give some feedback. Those vanilla centric ones are calling my name…
Kris, I think that my brother has mentioned Scheels every so often during our phone marathons. If that’s the case, then he knows exactly where the closest store would be. 🤣
A lot of people get workout clothes there, but they have about everything. I have gotten shoes, dress clothes, sweatshirts and obviously candles. Many get fishing equipment, guns and outdoor gear. The one here also has a candy shop, a ferris wheel, a Starbucks and a restaurant. The only downside is that everything is quite expensive.
I’m wearing another favourite, Chant d’Arômes.
A reader sent me a link to this (live, today) benefit auction of someone’s lifetime perfume bottle collection…take a peek, it’s an amazing collection, including an amazing Diorissimo bottle.
https://www.invaluable.com/catalog/ciivs9z3uu?page=1&size=48
All those Lalique bottles! Oooh!
Wow, wow, WOW! Are you sure Our Lady Donatella didn’t pass away? This looks to rival her collection…😳
DANG! I think I bruised my jaw when it hit the floor.
That was such a fun browse! And I spotted a bottle I actually own all the way back in the non-Lalique cheap seats. :- )
Number 272 is the bottle on the front cover of P:TG (original 2008 edition).
I love perfume bottles almost as much as perfume. One of my gripes about modern perfumery is that there are so few fragrances being released in beautiful bottles. Most everything these days seems to be in plain square or rectangular bottles, with the same bottle used for every perfume from a given house. Of course, I suppose when you are releasing 3 new perfumes per week, it would be too much to try to come up with a unique bottle for each one.
I feel the same way about the uniform bottles. Beautiful or quirky bottles are part of the experience imo.
I was rather ticked off when Estee Lauder got rid of all their unusual/unique perfume bottles.
I like uniformity although I could use a variety of colors.
The sun is blasting into my (home) office today, so I decided to wear something sunny. I’ve got a sample of April Aromatics Unter den Linden on one wrist and Prosody Lisson Linden on the other. UdL smells like a just smashed a handful of linden flowers on my arm — as photorealistic as you can get. The LL isn’t doing it for me — I get a sharp, bitter note overpowering the linden; and where i was expecting juicy passionfruit pulp, I instead get the drier note of the fruit’s peal.
Tea today is Harney & Son’s Holiday. It sounds (description-wise), looks, and smells similar to the F&M Christmas Black tea, but it tastes less spicy.
Linden is a smell I can love for about five seconds and then I must get far, far away. I’ve lived where there are linden trees and when they blossom it’s just too too much.
I have the same reaction to linden that Calypso does, unfortunately.
That means more for the people who love it.
I’m out for lunch on a beautiful chilly day after my painting class. Just visited Ultra and bought a boatload of new makeup for fun and found a Dior lipstick I’ll look for at Duty Free on my trip. I’m kind of reeking because I put on Grand Soir this morning and then sprayed on just a bit of the new Ariadne Grande Cloud 2 at Ulta. That stuff is potent! I didn’t hate it but it’s just not my thing.
Ulta—another Autocorrect.
We knew what you meant 🙂
I don’t know why they didn’t name it Ultra.
SOTD is MFK Aqua Media cologne, which I got a sample of in the gift with purchase bag from Neiman Marcus. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by this one; from reading the notes I thought it was going to be something meh and only tried it in the name of trying everything they sent. It’s actually quite wearable. I guess when they lead with “water” and words like “freshness” and “balance in motion”, I just assume it’s going to be a pale, wan perfume, but this has some nice depth to it while still being nice and green.
I think it’s wearing fairly close to me…at least I hope, since I’m taking Ockeghem Teen in to the doctor in a bit. She started saying some things yesterday (headaches, feeling “a little out of it”) that make me think she might have suffered a slight concussion after the fall off the risers on Sunday. But at least it looks like the horn is going to be fixed quickly.
Good idea to have Ockeghem Teen checked out for a concussion, especially since she is experiencing some physical symptoms.
Oh dear, I hope she’s ok! That’s good you’re taking (took) her. I agree with you about the Aqua Media–I too liked it more than expected.
What was the verdict?
Mild concussion, x-ray for her back to make sure there’s not a fracture. She’ll be home today and a half day tomorrow to rest.
Oh dear. Will check today’s poll to see if you found out anything more, hope a mild concussion is all it is.
Very busy week. Wearing
Chanel Bois des Iles, EdT.
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
Smelling fabulous for your busy week!
Thank you! 😊
You’re wearing a wonderful Perfume Unicorn today. 🦄
It really is! A shame I do not wear it more often.
You smell great! This is at the top of my FB wishlist right now
Egads, it’s COLD outside! 🥶❄️☃️ Current “Real Feel” temp is 23 degrees F. And the wind is brutal, with gusts up to 35mph. Not a fan.
A couple different friends of mine both saw snow flurries this morning.
But I heard that wind chills were in the low single digits in the Midwest this morning, so I guess I should just get used to the Big Chill headed my way.
Good news and bad news from the home inspections I had yesterday. The good news: 3 of them passed. The bad news: 1 did not. So I have someone coming on December 8 to make repairs. Then I need to have a follow-up inspection scheduled.
SOTD = commando, but wearing Korres Grecian Gardenia body butter on my shins. Woke up with a headache this morning, which I suspect was related to the weather. It’s long gone now, thankfully.
Good luck for an inexpensive fix and a pass on the 8th!
Thank you cazaubon!
Why were there so many inspections? I guess I just don’t understand.
There was an open permit on my place. Back in 2020, right before the world shut down, we had the HVAC and water heater replaced. We never had the post work inspections done until yesterday. 🫤
New Jersey also requires some inspections for sale that other states do not.
This morning was brutal but they say a warm up is coming.
The wind never did quit here. It just slacked off some.
Wishing that warmer weather gets to both of us ASAP!
Oy! At least it doesn’t sound too bad if it can wait until December 8th!
Still working on low-fill samples and decants, and today it’s a sample of Ayala Moriel Espionage. This is a rich leather perfume, and it’s gorgeous and long lasting. Not sure yet if I’ll finish the sample today since it’s lasted me through the work day. I have a roll-on mini of this that I’ve had for a long time and this is a good reminder for me to wear it.
She made some great scents.
I’m working tonight and wearing Cinnabar. That’s all I got.. lol.
You picked a Winter Warmer of a perfume for your SOTD!
I did! I intended to wear something else but I was dang cold and Cinnabar is just pure warmth.
Finally got the chance to stop in and read today’s comments. Scent of the Evening is a few dabs of Vol de Nuit parfum, because it always brings me joy. Tea this afternoon was Ajiri Nairobi Chai. I discovered this line in a fancy food and wine shop, and got my first box (chamomile) because of the beautiful artwork. It was the best chamomile tea I’ve ever tasted. The company employs Kenyan women, who do the artwork along with other aspects of production, and helps them become more comfortable with business and independence. I love supporting it!
That is indeed a lovely box! I can’t count how many teas I’ve bought because of packaging…it’s worse than perfume.
I know! Are we talking about tins, too? I’m sure I’ve purchased some teas just for the nice tin, lol! At least it’s cheaper than perfume. 😁
Yes, I’m a sucker for a nice tin! Plus they’re reusable.
Just posted my scent of the day on Monday’s poll. 😯 Oh well. I’m wearing Ashoka and it’s lovely. One of those where you get whiffs and think what smells so nice? Me!!
Oops!
Never did pick any SOTD today. Got all the gifts for DH’s family wrapped and mailed, so that is done for this year. I know it’s really cold some places, but I’m enjoying the weather here. The past few days have had highs in the 60’s and lows in the 40’s, which is pretty much perfect.
Your idea of perfect weather and mine synch beautifully!
Yeah, I can do without sub-freezing temps–I’m still mourning the loss of my Meyer lemon tree from the mega freeze of February 2021–but it’s so nice to be done with 90’s and 100’s for a few months.
Oh, sorry you lost your tree! It’s so sad to me when a beautiful tree dies, for whatever reason. Trees are like silent witnesses. 🌳
I’d had it for 20 years, which made it even harder to lose it like that. It had survived hard freezes before, but I guess this one was just too much. My tree made the most wonderful, HUGE, juicy lemons that made the best lemonade I have ever tasted.
