It’s almost Thanksgiving — are you ready? — and we’re celebrating the calm before the holiday festivities with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, any cooking or travel (or perfume shopping? just curling up with a good book?) plans you might have this week, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I’m reading in bed. Woke up too early so made coffee laced with some Chobani Peppermint Mocha creamer. Spritzed on a bit of fine’ry Not Another Cherry just to carry me through till I shower.
Our local candle place has a pre-Black Friday sale on wax melts, so the husband and I went in to sniff and look. Sale is only online, but I can set for pick up. I’m thinking of getting a cute little warmer and some of their winter/holiday smelling melts. I don’t like sweet or fruity, but they have some good evergreen and bayberry and more spicy scents. And they’re nice people. They raised a ton of money for Ukraine charity with their special Ukraine candle. They also have one for Maui now. Lilikoi scent.
Since we’ve moved to an artificial tree, I’ll need something scented. I have so many candles, but I do like the warmers’ throw.
The rest of my day will be cleaning up the clutter and actual cleaning. I’ve decided to bring a roasted Delicata squash dish to friends’ Thanksgiving gathering.
Butternut squash gets all the hype but we prefer delicatas.
It’s a totally new discovery for me. I was doing checkout at the market when a man came through buying one and was extolling its virtues. So, I bought one and loved it.
Lovely morning!
Black Fri sales are already on, crazy!
I’ve got my eye on a few things.
A new frasier fir candle would be nice.
Hi! 👋 hope you are well! I notice Brooklyn Candle has a Christmas Tree minimalist candle. Could be good.
Delicata squash is delicious! I love/prefer the winter squashes over the summer ones any day.
Delicata squash is yummy!
I’ll toss in a plug for Annick Goutal holiday candles, especially the classic Noël, if they still make it.
But when you can support a local business and enjoy the chance to sniff first, that’s the best. 😺
I’m in Casmir, one of my all time favorites from back in the day. I wore it yesterday for the cp, and I am grateful to the generous NSTer who send me a bottle a few years back and now I am set for life.
This weekend I will cooking our thanksgiving turkey. I did this last year and it worked out really well. I’ll cook the turkey and gravy, slice it and arrange it in the crock pot, then put it back in the freezer til next weekend. We all felt like the turkey was a lot moister that way and stayed hot! Coordinating everything getting done at the same time and staying hot is the biggest challenge for me.
I finished reading Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh yesterday. Has anyone read it? I saw the trailer for the movie a few weeks ago and was intrigued. It stars Anne Hathaway and I’ve never been a fan or non-fan of hers, but she looks like she’ll be amazing in it. Of course now I’ve spoiled the ending for myself lol.
Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes for my dad the other day. His knee surgery went well. I talked to him yesterday and he sounded great! Really upbeat and no pain issues. He’s been up walking around and doing well. I should have known. My dad is made of tough stuff, the oldest of 7 and grew up on a farm. He hardly ever complains about anything.
Glad to hear that your dad’s surgery went well! 😊
Will there be stuffing for the turkey?
Thanks!
Oh yes! Stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.😋
Happy to hear everything went well. Farmer Folk are made of tough stuff!
Thanks Deva! They sure are!💪
I missed the post about your dad’s knee, glad the surgery went well. And you smell great in Casmir!
Double thanks ringthing!😀
I am behind on reading this week’s posts, but I am glad to hear your dad is recovering well from surgery. Sending him healing vibes.
Thanks so much pl67!
Glad to hear that your dad is doing well.
You smell fantastic in Casmir.
Thanks lillyjo! If I remember correctly, we both love Casmir.☺️
So glad you can be reassured about your father.
Thanks Aurora! Yes, definitely eases any anxiety and worry I was having to hear him doing so well.
Glad your dad is doing well after surgery.
I have not read Eileen, but it sounds like a good book. I may have to pick it up.
Thanks Kris!
Report back if you do. It was *good*, a bit of a slow burn so to speak and mostly narrative vs dialog between characters. The trailer for the movie actually looks better.
Glad your dad is doing well. Speedy recovery to him!
Thanks Undina!
I was able to lurk a little bit this week, and read about your Dad’s surgery. Glad to hear that he is doing well! I hope his recovery continues to be quick and uneventful.
Best wishes for your dad’s continued and speedy recovery!
There’s no Thanksgiving in Poland but holiday shopping & advertising craziness has started in early November and I’m sure it will drive me crazy before Christmas is here.

Beautiful picture!
Love the picture!
Beautiful shot!
Gorgeous picture!
Happy weekend everybody!
Sotd is Harvest Mouse. A comfort scent and the bottle illustration makes me happy every time.
I plan to spend my weekend reading 2 books (maybe just the 1 but I am feeling ambitious) – The Dog of the North, and The Humans. I also roasted a batch of chickpeas as my reading snack. Yum!
Roasted chickpeas sound like the perfect snack to read with…I just picked up two books at the library and going to settle in soon, much later than I’d planned.
You smell wonderful. That one is going on my Christmas wishlist!
Oh, so I love chick peas. Would you mind sharing your te unique for roasting them? I’ve tried doing it before, but they didn’t turn out crispy at all.
Wearing the OG Bottega Veneta today. I find it quite strong and think I should have stopped at one spray instead of two…🤷🏻♀️
Stopped at the grocery yesterday to pick up a couple of Cornish Hens that I forgot last time I was there. So, that’s what I’m making for Thanksgiving at Chez Deva. Some sides of course like sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts, too. Desert will be a sweet cranberry orange bread with a drizzle of icing. Adding a side salad which should negate the orange cranberry bread, right? Decided against making the cookies for now.
And because I found this both hysterical and tragically real, I’m reposting this for anyone who is appalled by the price of groceries these days and needs a laugh. I don’t understand how this little clip can make me cry and laugh at the same time…apparently it’s from a Canadian show, and that’s probably why I love it because I have a big love for the Maple Leaf Peeps! 🇨🇦

IMO, it’s better to be a visitor at a friends/relatives house for the holidays. Bring a dish to share, lend a helping hand here or there, but no stress, no mess for the visitor! It’s a real talent to be able to host big holiday dinners and pull it off like a rock star. My mother had that talent but it certainly skipped me. Hoping all the Perfume Peeps have a lovely holiday week here in the US! 🦃
Oh Deva, thanks for the laugh, that clip is so funny but yes, tragically true 😂😂
So glad it made you laugh! This time of year can be so hard for some folks that I really search out levity to offset some of the stress/sadness. It’s better to laugh than to cry! Unless you’re laughing so hard you’re crying… 😂
Your meal sounds lovely! I will be baking pies and showing up as a guest for Thanksgiving. No way would I host.
“No way I would host” twin! 🙃 I’m sure you’re the best guest ever, wafting a fragrant trail of scented delight! 🥧
Oh Deva! I laughed out loud. He even has a blue shirt like I wear at the market. Mixed nuts! I need to send this to my colleagues….
You’re “a trained professional” 😂
This has become my favorite clip ever!🤣
I think I will copy you in BV today.
Twinning is Winning! 🙌
Thanks for the video, Deva! I really needed a good laugh! 😂
A good laugh is the best! 😆
You’re going to get home and…ok, I won’t spoil it, but that line made me literally LOL.
Excellent.
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve rewatched it! Destined to become a classic. 😃
On standby for work.but only today.
SOTD!Lush Lust.Beautiful dense jasmine,I’ll be sad when I thunk this bottle(in the very very far future!)and it seems our local Lush stores does not carry it anymore,or has it been dc’d?
Happy weekend all!
XO’s
I very much hope your on-call weekend is very, very quiet 🤫
Luckily only today,tomorrow I’m a free agent!👌🏻👌🏻
Lust is such a beauty. I just checked and it’s available, at least online, here in the US. The good thing is, a little goes a LONG way😊
Lush scents do seem to come and go, but bet they have not stopped making it entirely.
You just need a LUSH perfume mule!
Wearing Masque Milano L’Attesa.
There are no plans for Thanksgiving so far. My youngest sister is on a work trip overseas and won’t be back until Wednesday evening.
Tomorrow is my birthday. A bittersweet one without mom and my dog Yei, who crossed the rainbow week on my birthday last year. I miss them both immensely.
This year, nobody is in the mood for anything. So I don’t know if we will have dinner together for Thanksgiving. Tomorrow, I will just order sushi for lunch, have a glass of wine, watch a couple of movies, and relax. I really need a quiet day by myself at home. I am counting my blessings and very, very thankful for all the love of family and friends.
I ordered some holiday hand soaps online from BBW that I am picking up this afternoon. I will stop by to see my twin nieces after that. It is very cold and windy today, but I at least it is partly sunny, which I really appreciate.
Happy weekend, everyone! 🌻
Happy birthday! May you have a peaceful Thanksgiving, however you decide to spend it.
T-Rex and I will be thinking of you and wishing you peace! 🕊️
I remember my first Thanksgiving without my mom (my dad had died four years earlier and my brother was on active duty posted elsewhere). It wasn’t easy. Please be kind to yourself and I hope you find joy in visiting the nieces! And I’m sure there will be NSTers checking in all week if you want some virtual company.
Gentle hugs, pl67. Enjoy your quiet day.
Happy Birthday!
Sounds like a very nice day you have planned.
I think I agree with “nobody is in the mood for anything”. Just heard this exact same phrase from my sister as well. Although much to be thankful for, the daily images & news of suffering around the world is wearying.
Smelling lovely! Wishing you an early Happy Birthday; I hope you have a restful day tomorrow.
Happy birthday for tomorrow, and I hope you enjoy the day.
Happy Birthday!
I hope you get some relaxing time. Remember though to reach out if you need to.
My Dad passed away 3 days after Thanksgiving, and my Mother right before Christmas. It has taken a long time for me to forgive this Holiday stretch.
Sending hugs🌷🩷
Best wishes on your birthday, your day tomorrow sounds perfect.
Happy Birthday!
Take care my friend and be good to yourself.
I hope you find some peace and enjoyment in your birthday tomorrow! ♥
Happy Birthday, pl67!💐🎂
🥳
Happy Birthday, PL67! You smell wonderfully! Whatever you end up doing for Thanksgiving will be the right choice – just take it easy and do not force anything on yourself.
Happy birthday and enjoy your quiet day tomorrow ❤️
Happy Birthday pl67! Enjoy your day.🌻
Happy birthday and warm hugs, PL67!
Happy birthday, pfl67! Enjoy whatever day you decide to take off by doing whatever you want to do!
Happy Scented Birthday, perfumelover67! Sending warm thoughts and hugs your way. 🎂🎉🎁
Oh I feel you! I hope you have a lovely relaxing birthday anyway (sushi and movies sound great to me) and the holidays I guess will remake themselves over time, right?
We are doing a store bought precooked turkey for Thanksgiving, first time ever, and I just now hit “buy” on our first ever fake tree.
I still have the fake tree that my parents bought circa 1972. My brother and I used to assemble it when we got big enough to do so.
It is NOT one of those “Charlie Brown Xmas” aluminum trees!
Honestly I would buy that Charlie Brown tree, it would at least be good for laughs, right? But my son is already not happy that we won’t have a live tree. This year has been quite a bit more change than he was ready for.
It must actually be your birthday now: wishing you a lovely day!
Happy Birthday, pl67! 🎉❤️🥳 Sending you extra hugs and love.
Happy belated birthday, M! Hope it ended up being an enjoyably relaxing day.
Had a rough night so taking it easy today, I plan to shower and wear 4160 Tuesdays Temptation.
Hope tonight is better for you, cazaubon.
Thank you! It should be better, I will be tired. 🙂
Rough night twins! Let’s hope for good sleep tonight. 😴
Sleep well tonight cazaubon.
Same here. With the only difference that I can’t put on any perfume. Take care of yourself and try to get some rest, if possible, not waiting for the night.
I hope that everyone who had a bad night last night gets some quality shut eye tonight. 😴
Me too!
Had a funny dream the other night where I had a human sized bottle of Chanel perfum. I was planning a trip and kept walking around the bottle thinking about how I might pack it.
My husband interpreted this as “perfume has become too important to you”. It was one of the Les Exclusifs bottles. A girl can dream.
Just finished Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano which I really enjoyed, although cried the last 30 or so pages which resulted in very swollen eyes the next morning.
Having friends for dinner tonight. Think I’ll keep it simple with a pot of beef chili & all the toppings & a light salad. There is a dessert I want to try which is triple ginger skillet cake topped with vanilla ice cream. Yum.
Not sure what scent I’ll wear today but thinking I’ll go with one of the Chanel Exclusifs. 😉
Between you and the cooking, that’ll be one good smelling home.
I have been wondering how that book was and now I know. May have to get it.
Your meal sounds yummy and any Chanel Exclusif will have you smelling great! Your friends will love you❤
Your dinner sounds great. And I interpret your dream as “floragal needs more Chanel!”
Exactly! Mr. Floragal needs an attitude adjustment.
Haha! Yes! I really like this interpretation. 🙂
Yes, clearly, Mr. Floragal is not an expert at dream interpretation.
Borneo 1834 today. I smell delicious, if I do say so myself.
I need to get through a pile of grading that has been hanging over my head for too long, and write up one more essay assignment for a different group of students. It’s sunny but cold here, and I’m hoping to get out for a walk.
No big holiday plans here; we by some miracle were able to order a half-turkey this morning from the same farm we used last year (when I placed the order in October). We may have a couple of guests for dinner but it’s all very low-key. Looking forward to that, as I’ll be traveling for a conference the week after.
Good luck on that grading, get it done skalolazka!
Low key Thanksgiving is our plan too.
Today I’m wearing the Oil Perfumery version of Coromandel, which I enjoy in it’s own right, even though I have a couple of decants of the real thing.
Our family is just us and my mom, my daughter and her husband go to his family’s house, so I’m having mom’s church bring her a turkey dinner and calling it good. I’m not big on traditional Thanksgiving food anyway, especially on a low carb diet, so we’ll have something else like shrimp.
My sister, who hasn’t been here since 2019, is coming to visit the weekend after Thanksgiving, so that’s something to look forward to.
I do not adore traditional Thanksgiving food all that much either, but I do like the pumpkin flan my mom makes every year, especially for breakfast the next day. Actually I could just have the flan for dinner, dessert and breakfast and count that as worth being thankful for 🙂
Pumpkin flan sounds delightful.
That flan sounds amazing!!
Pumpkin flan is my favorite, too. Who needs crust? I do, on the other hand, love traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Especially the Waldorf Salad. As soon as I could wield a paring knife, making that was my job. My mother always made a big dinner. She was a good cook!
Oooooh, I’d take pumpkin flan over pumpkin pie ANY day!
How exciting for your sister visiting!
It is! I’m looking forward to it.
I am still on my “grateful” CP from this week.
Encens Mythique-this decant was sent to me by a generous NSTer. This is a scent that transports me to another world-or another part of the country. I keep looking at those discount websites to spring for a FB…
I am going salsa dancing with some friends and I think this perfume would be perfect for tonight too..
As many NYers know, recently the budget cuts have affected everyone, and I am sad for the library and the patrons and most importantly the staff who will feel the cuts too. I am sure Robin would appreciate if I keep my opinions to myself, so I will stop here… 🙂
Encens Mythique is one of my favorites too, I wore it last week and enjoyed immensely. You smell great!
Last night many people asked me what I was wearing
What, are libraries politics??? (j/k, everything is politics, but I was very happy that my town actually voted in an extra property tax this year to help fund the library. And now we’ll both stop talking politics, yeah.)
😀 your town sounds like it’s a nice place to live
Getting a very slow start on a rainy, overcast morning.
Discovered that another blind-bought (at a great price) bottle that I sadly couldn’t stand is now a like: YSL Libre Intense. (My nose has definitely changed.) Nonetheless, with my over abundance of perfume, it won’t get much wear. I’ll give it to my cousin at Thanksgiving.
There are a few decants in my discard pile that I’m going to re-try now. Fortunately, I don’t seem to have STOPPED loving anything I loved before.
Still in the dregs of a single spray of Musc Ravageur last night. Earlier in the evening I sampled Zoologist Northern Cardinal and Harvest Mouse.
Northern Cardinal was not for me, I just got sharp astringency and a dull soapy rose. Harvest Mouse was pleasant, I’ll sample it some more. I also have Seahorse and Tiger to sample. Cow and Cockatiel didn’t look like they needed sampling, but if someone loved then, let me know! This catches me up with the Zoologist releases of the last couple years. Well, mostly. I haven’t tried any of the reformulations or flankers/variants.
I felt the same way about Northern Cardinal, astringency is the perfect word. I haven’t tried Tiger yet, be sure to post your thoughts when you do. The quince note gives me pause.
Re: Tiger. I don’t see quince listed in the notes, but I do see kumquat. I couldn’t specifically pick the kumquat out (nor the cardamom top note), it all just blended well. It opens for me with a strong wood note, I guess that’s the ebony wood, but mellows out quickly after, then it’s all herbaceous, brisk woods and a pleasant vetiver drydown.
If you don’t like vetiver, it’s a pass, and if you do, it could possibly be redundant. Comments had comparisons to Encre Noir and Timbuktu. I should have a sample of EN around here somewhere (need to get a bottle) and I love (and have) Timbuktu, so I will endeavor to do a comparison.
Through no actual planning, I managed to sample Tiger alongside 3 other perfumes with cardamom top note, 2 of those with vetiver also: Zoologist Seahorse (obvs very different b/c of the aquatic aspect), TDC Sel de Vetiver, and Chris Collins African Roobois (no vetiver in that). Of those, I’m least compelled by Tiger.
Will report back again after I’ve done some more conditions
Kumquat, that’s what I meant. Thank you so much for the review! I have a bottle of Encre Noir and I do like vetiver but not sure I need more. I will probably still try Tiger at some point.
PS – Cow is a pretty green floral. I wear it a lot in warm weather.
I will give it a try!
After bathroom cleaning and a shower, we’ll go for our usual Sunday walk. I think I’ll wear my latest Arquiste purchase, L’Or de Louis.
We made a very quick decision yesterday to go to Sydney for a few days for my beloved’s birthday in March. I said I’d like to go to an Egyptian exhibition, his son lives in Sydney, the timing worked for his birthday and we made the decision in 10 seconds flat! Flights are booked and paid, and we’ve got the exhibition tickets.
It will be a great chance for some perfume shopping, so I need to save up my perfume dollars 🙂
Oh how nice to make such quick travel decisions! That’s something to look forward to.
SOTD is Bois d’Iris.
I found a full bottle of Angel yesterday and am just wondering if any of you wear this anymore. I don’t even remember if I like it. I must have at some point😀
Grandkids are coming from North Carolina this week, so we are excited to see them.
I hope you have a wonderful time with your grandkids😊
Thanks. They are usually entertaining at 5 and 7 years old.
I smell Angel on the streets of NYC but not as much as Santal 33 and Coco Mdll
I think I will try and see what I think of it tomorrow. I don’t hear it mentioned anymore, but I know our local Macy’s still sells a lot of it.
“I don’t even remember if I like it” related to Angel is not something I would expect to hear from someone who owns a bottle ever! 🙂 Usually people either love/like (though don’t wear) or hate it. But not remembering is something new.
I used to LOVE it. I still like it but never wear any more.
I think I liked it, but I must not have liked it enough to wear it much. I think I will give it a whirl tomorrow.
I like Angel but it seems that people who love it wears a ton of it so much so that the scent coats my tongue 😛
😂 I think I will try a small spritz tomorrow and see what I think. If I remember correctly I had the lotion too and with all of that and the perfume it was a bit much.
It took me a while to appreciate it, but I really like Angel now. Even so, I don’t wear it often. I like some of the flankers better.
Interesting. I didn’t even know if it was popular anymore. I don’t see people talk about it much anymore, but it’s been around for 30 years.
I come across Angel “in the wild” every so often. It leaves a wonderful scent trail…
I really like Angel, but have to be in a certain mood or frame of mind to wear it. I have 3 different versions of it.
What other versions do you have?
I have the EdP, the original EdT in the comet bottle, and the Angel Les Parfums de Cuir.
And a quick look thru my Full Bottle document shows that I picked up Angel Eau Croisiere, too. So that’s 4 versions of Angel.
Wow! I guess you do like it. I was going to try it today but wasn’t in the mood and it was just a little too warm. Tomorrow it will be cooler so will try it then.
And I forgot the travel spray of Angel Muse EdP. So I’m up to 5 now. 🤣
Angel is one of those perfumes that should only be sold in a dauber bottle. 😸
😀
I still wear Angel. I would love to have a true vintage. My bottle is about 8 years old. It’s not as potent.
Have a great visit with your Grandkids!
Thanks Lillyjo.
I’m still doing the gratitude cp and wearing PG Bois Blond today. Although I’d already fallen down the rabbit hole when I first tried it, it really was the first one where I found one that really changed and developed on me and I loved it. Unfortunately, it was dced before I bought a bottle, but I am so grateful to two different perfumistas who shared a good sized decant from their bottles with me!
I will be hosting Thanksgiving as usual and there’s really no other option for us so I will just enjoy the craziness of all of us cooking in the kitchen — it will only be six of us so that’s doable — and as we never know what the future holds, I will work on appreciating every moment with my DH, two of our three sons, one wife and one baby.
I love the image of you and your family bustling around together in the kitchen, fabulous food smells wafting through the air and that cute baby taking it all in💗
😀
Good luck hosting
Thank you, I will need it.
Six people is a nice size for Thanksgiving. Good luck with it all!
Should be fun. Thanks.
I’m rounding out last week’s CP in TF Violet Blonde. Very very thankful to have snagged one of the (seemingly) very last 100 ml bottles a few years ago. It’s half gone now, but still should last the rest of my life … unless Mr. G gets his paws on it. 😆
That was such a great perfume! I missed it. I misjudged how popular it became, and it was gone by the time I finished the decant.
That happened to me too.
Actually, there’s quite a number of bottles on evil bay right now … and much to my surprise, the prices aren’t too gouge-y.
Nice to know.
Wearing FM Promise, inspired by Oakland Fresca’s post. Love the scent and the longevity!
Mmmmm nice!
I’m wearing Desarmant today. Thank you all for your get-well wishes, the cold I had was miserable. Not Covid, just a cold, but the sinus congestion was bad and I sneezed so much! I am much better now but Thanksgiving will be whatever I bump into in the freezer, and I might make some cookies.
Glad you’re feeling better! Can you order a nice Thanksgiving dinner from a local deli or restaurant? We did that one year and it was so easy and absolutely delicious!
Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday, so I am fine skipping it.
Glad to hear you are on the mend! Cookies always sound good. 🙂
Happy to hear that it is not COVID, and that you are feeling better!
Glad you are feeling better! I need to make cookies as well.
Glad it isn’t Covid. Hope you keep getting better.
I’m going to stay with the gratitude theme, too. I’m in a cloud of wonderful Puredistance M, from the lovely maker’s sample gifted to me along with a lovely NST’ers split. It’s very much what I like and I find it solidly unisex. I am glad I found it today. I am forcing myself to type this: I’m on a no-buy until January!! We have a wedding to travel to; prudence dictates some saving up. Also, I have many *treasures* in the sample and decant boxes that need my attention and organization. So that’s that. EEEEEEEK. My holiday plans are to bake a pumpkin pie today, and then look forward to our reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet at a nice local restaurant. It’s quite popular and by the time I called over a month ago, only early seating times were left. I plan to have some breakfast “appetizers,” then move on to dinner because both services will be open. So I’ll get my turkey at 10:45. 🙂
Your Thanksgiving is a great plan. I actually prefer to eat early on that day–more time to digest! 😀
Thanks for all the good sleep wishes, I had a better night, although I was up at 4:30, yawn. Will try for a nap later. Testing a couple of samples this morning, neither of which are good, so they are being tossed and I will scrub in the shower. Can’t decide on a scent because nothing sounds motivating, including any of the things I normally enjoy. Actually I feel depressed. I’m wondering if the CBD/THC gummies I use for sleep cause depression, I’ve noticed on days after I’ve taken them that my mood is not great.
A nap always makes me feel better. Hope you can count sheep soon.
I’m glad you slept better last night. I wouldn’t be surprised if the gummies contribute to feeling down. Also, though.. you have a legitimate reason for that feeling. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow.
Oy! I have no clue about the CBD gummies.
I don’t know what possessed me to have a double espresso at 2:30 this afternoon so I may be sleepless in NJ.
Uff da! If CBD can cause depression, then I’d better stay far away from it.
No perfume yet today but my sweatshirt sleeves smell of a combo of perfumes I’ve worn the last few days since it’s what I wear to lounge around in. That includes a tiny bit of last night’s Shalimar Millesime Iris, which is what I wore to a gala event. It was my first event of that kind, and it was a fun one! It was not stuffy at all and there were so many amazing outfits. The cause was scholarships, small business grants, and more for our state’s LGBTQ+ chamber of commerce. I was one of 10 employees at our company’s sponsored table. I loved my outfit and felt fairly confident – and it was a black velvet dress with beaded lace applique short sleeves that I bought from Goodwill about 5 years ago for $7.99! I finally had an event for it. 😀
Today I’ll either wear one or both decants that just arrived from hajusuuri’s splits. I got Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato and Diane St. Clair’s Call Me that she made for American Perfumer.
Not sure yet on my Thanksgiving plans. I need to touch base with my aunt as we’ll either go to her and my uncle’s house or stay home and do an easy but delicious meal.
Oh and I meant to also say that I’d intended to wear L’eau d’Hiver to the gala last night, but I couldn’t find my travel spray! All of my other FM travel sprays are housed in a Harris Reed candle box that’s the perfect size for 10-12 travel sprays or decants, but the L’eau d’Hiver was absent. I’ll dig around to try and locate it today for peace of mind.
I found my travel spray! It was in the same cabinet as the other FMs but had fallen over in the back of a small space.
I found my travel spray! I luckily didn’t have to search long. It was in the same cabinet but had fallen over in the back of a small niche.
🤩 for that dress! Beautiful and cheap – can’t beat that.
Totally agree!
Finding a bargain like that at Goodwill is one of life’s great thrills and then of course, there’s the thrill of wearing it. I’m sure that you looked and smelled fabulous!
Thank you! It was so nice to finally wear this dress.
I bet you looked beautiful!
Aww, thank you! I had to go buy some mascara beforehand because I haven’t worn any in years!
Testing a new sample today, Rauque from Roberto Greco. Since the nose was Christopher Sheldrake, I was looking forward to trying this one more than usual. I am enjoying it very much, as it turns out. I get mostly myrrh and leather, softened by acacia and osmanthus. I will definitely thunk this sample!
Myrrh and leather sounds amazeballs!
I agree!
Yes, it’s well-done! It has some heavy-hitting base notes, but they don’t register as such, and the whole composition is smooth.
I’m not ready for thanksgiving. I think it will be just a quiet day at home. The following week I visit my parents in Florida, so we’ll have a proper turkey dinner then.
I got gifted about 50 back issues of Cook’s Illustrated, so I’m having fun this weekend going through them all and pulling out recipes that I’d like to try. I’ll save them all in a binder.
Cook’s Illustrated is the one magazine that survived all my house purging. There’s some wonderful recipes in there!
I had a friend who framed a bunch of Cook’s back covers and displayed them in her kitchen. I always thought that was a genius idea.
Ooh, excellent idea! Might need to borrow that one!
After 2 years of perfume-buying abstinence, I went a little crazy this last week. So now I’m on a no-buy for the rest of Q4 UNLESS there is an amazing Black Friday sale for something already on my wish last.
Strategies I’m employing to reign myself in: 1. No purchases of something that hasn’t sat on my wishlist for a while, 2. No new sample purchases, 3. For the rest of Q4 no sniffing new samples, 4. Write my confession to Donatella as I go, including sum total $ spent.
Today I’m in Les Indemodables Musc des Sables, of which I have a decant. This is on my FB wishlist.
2pm local time and I’ve completed enough chores already that I’m not feeling guilty for slothfulness. Sigh. Wish I did not judge myself. (I definitely rest when I need it, but it’s always sprinkled with a touch of self-recrimination.)
All these caveats with perfume! I wish you well in your endeavor 🤣.
She must be better restrained than I am. I don’t say I am going on a “no buy” period anymore because about the time I do, I am buying something else. Maybe I will try next year. Right😀
😂 It’s Day 1. We’ll see how the restraint works out
Good luck with the pause on perfume purchases!
Hey, where did the weekend go?
SOTD = Slumberhouse Pear & Olive
Love this house!

The BFF meet-up was super! We ended up meeting at Max Brunner chocolate shop and had a hot chocolate snack. My friend, her husband and two daughters were there. I have not previously met the younger daughter.
We stopped at Nordstrom Rack because my friend’s shoes were falling apart and she got a pair of nice sneakers after trying on 10 pairs of shoes (nowhere to sit). We then walked around the Union Square Holiday Shops; there were more artisanal shops than at Bryant Park!
We were originally going to walk our way uptown to lunch and I was going to show them the artwork outside of Museum of FIT but we ran out of time so we took a cab instead. I deliberately picked Fogo de Chao (Brazilian all you can eat meat plus a fabulous salad bar) as it was across the street from the Museum of Modern Art.
At the last minute, because the MoMA tickets were not timed anyway, we walked a little bit to Rockefeller Center. The tree was still shrouded in scaffolding so I will need to stop by again one of these days once all the lights are up. We had coffee at Blue Bottle. By then it was already sometime after 4 and we finally split up!
I have not seen my friend for a very very long time but it felt like we just continued where we left off all those years ago!
It sounds like a wonderful get together. Old friends like that are precious.
Your get-together yesterday sounds fantastic!
“New friends are like silver; old friends are gold.”
That sounds like a wonderful time.
For a long time I wanted to buy Pear & Olive. By the time I had set my mind to purchasing it, it was discontinued. Oh, well. I am sure you smell wonderful.
What a lovely day!
I found myself at Nordie’s this afternoon and had a quick Tom Ford sniffa. I only sniffed the caps, and didn’t try anything on skin.
What I sniffed: Electric Cherry, Lost Cherry, Cherry Smoke, Bitter Peach, Bois Marocain 2022, Effing Fabulous, Santal Blush, Soleil Blanc, and Soleil de Feu.
Hated: Cherry Smoke and Santal Blush. Cherry Smoke smelled like phenol to me. Santal Blush was a faintly stabby thing.
Liked: Electric Cherry, Effing Fabulous, Soleil Blanc, and Soleil de Feu. Considering the TF Soleil Travel spray set, despite saying that I was on a No Buy for the rest of the year. Things like that are probably more affordable now than they will be next year…
Yeah, trying to justify a purchase. And trying to talk myself out of it.
I am lucky this year. I have been invited to Friendsgiving again this year by the same bunch that took me in last year. I have offered to bring roasted Brussels sprouts to one of the hosts, since she lurves them. Her DH most definitely does not.
SOTD = a dab or two of Heeley Eau Sacree today. Yes to incense!
Glad you will be going to Friendsgiving this year. I would love roasted brussels sprouts!
After all you have been through, I say you are justified in a purchase. A gift to yourself.
I went there last year, too. It’s really awesome to have people that are looking out for ya.
Don’t you just love Heeley’s sprayers? Such a lovely fine mist. And you are a goddess if you can do Brussels sprouts properly — they are a favorite of mine. 💕💕
I wish my sample was a spray. But it’s a teeny dabber. I still waft really well!
I figured out how to make Brussels sprouts to my taste a while ago. Still figuring out how to do beets and squash.
Seconding Kris’s idea. Did you ever watch Parks and Rec? Treat yo self! Very wise words.
Never watched Parks and Rec. But I’ve seen a TON of “Treat yo self” memes on the Internet…
What Kris said. Treating yourself is a good thing.
I did get some nice new turtlenecks at LL Bean earlier today. Some of the ones I currently have are looking kinda sorry.
I’m interested in the travel set too. Did Soliel de Feu lean masculine to you? Reviews are mixed.
Soleil de Feu wasn’t masculine to my nose. But neither was Effing Fabulous.
On skin, things might be a little different.
Spent Sunday in Cristalle EDT — heaven!
Absolutely beautiful!
