Happy Almost-Friday! It’s also the International Day for Tolerance. Birthdays: WC Handy, Chinua Achebe, Diana Krall, Lisa Bonet. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am grateful that people on the MakeupAlley fragrance board were still talking about Fendi Theorema in the early 2000s; I never would have heard of it otherwise. By the time I bought my first bottle (around 2004?) it had already been discontinued (why?) but bottles were still easy to come by — I picked mine up at a local mall kiosk at a discount price. It's still my go-to holiday scent.
Reminder: 11/17 will be Gratitude Friday…wear a perfume that you feel grateful for coming into your life, that arrived at the right time, helped you face a difficult situation, or simply enriches your day when you wear it. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is Gucci A Reason to Love.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and kind words. ❤️
My grandmother is still rather critical but according to the doctor she is responding well to the treatments. So I am hopeful.
That’s good news!
That sounds like good news! I’m hopeful for your grandmother as well.
That is good news, hope she continues to respond well.🙏
Good news
I missed your post yesterday…sending hugs and strength and glad she is responding well.
I’m so glad there’s been improvement-hang in there 🙂
I am happy to hear that. Hope things continue on a positive course!
Happy for you and your grandma.
Good news.
I’m so glad to hear she’s improving!
Quite positive what the doctor said.
I also missed your post yesterday. That’s very good news that she’s improving.
Good news!
Hi all, I’m wearing Sacred Scarab from a decant I received from an awesome NSTer. Especially grateful for this one because I love it, and going by the notes I didn’t think I would.
I keep meaning to try it! And I think I have some somewhere.
I am thankful for decant houses that allow those of us without easy access to sampling fragrances have a chance to try something without blind buying a full bottle. I just received decants of two Jo Malone fragrances and my SOTD CdG Black.
Oh, CdG Black is such a great scent. I hope you enjoy!
Wow you smell great!
which Jo Malones?
English Oak and Hazelnut and Cypress and Grapevine.
Hello all!
I’m in Paestum Rose today, which I’m grateful for because I waited till it was discontinued to buy it. It’s hard out here with all these brands cancelling our favorite perfumes. It’s a bit cooler today and this is a great winter rose scent.
It’s going to be a long day so I’m trying to enjoy my coffee a minute longer.
Have a great day, all!
PR was my first niche rose love when I fell down the rabbit hole. You are smelling wonderful.
It was an early favorite for me too! I think my first niche bottle was Dzongkha but I kept a scent strip sprayed with PR in a textbook for a whole semester.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
That was an early niche buy for me, it’s a wonderful rose. You smell bewitching. 🌝
Thank you. That honey incense in the base always does me in.
I’m in 10 Corso Como. Love this one.
Today my dad is having knee surgery. Months ago I talked to my parents about taking some time to be there for it. Of course they were both adamant that I not take the time from work and the expense of flying to be there. So now I am a thousand miles away with all my emotions (and regret).😓
My girls and I FaceTimed with him last night and he seemed in great spirits. I think he is ready to be done with the pain and back to his daily walks (he logs hundreds of miles each year!) and 18 holes of golf. I am hopefully optimistic that everything will go well.🙏
My MIL has total knee replacement and she is so happy she did it. The PT and work afterwards was a lot, but now she takes long walks pain free
I have heard so many good reports about successful knee replacement surgeries, hoping your dad has a speedy & complete healing.
Sending good luck on your dad’s surgery and big hugs to you!
My mom had a knee procedure in her 70s and recovered wonderfully and was fully active afterwards too.
Ditto what others said about successful surgeries — good friends of mine have been very happy they’ve done it. Hugs!
I know quite a few people that have had wonderful results from knee surgery. I am sure your dad will too and be walking in no time.
Wishing your dad well as he recovers!
We share a love in 10CC. Sending good recovery vibes to your dad!
Well wishes to your Dad!
A gifted sample I am wearing roday is Francis Kurkdjian APOM. No idea which APOM it is, but I am getting a lot of jasmine. What a BWF!
Guessing it’s the Femme then!
I’m in Secret Garden, which is my favorite Aftelier scent. This one always feels right and makes me happy.
I’m grateful for all my beloved perfumes because they bring an extra spark of joy to every day life.
I should have done Candide this week!
Also, extra gratitude for Candide because Mandy Aftel did me up a bottle after it was discontinued.
I have a bottle of this somewhere thanks to this site, I need to find it.
Also thanks for existing, I love all of you for keeping me current for years!
Nice to see you!
Good to see you!
Chai coffee this morning
I am in Honey Tobacco by Guerlain…really blooming in the cool weather. I love it and I am treasuring my sample.
All the talk about the Guerlain extraits makes me want to go back to the store and revisit
Reading my guilty pleasure Sarah j Maas series as I am waiting for my library to receive my books I requested.
Sending those who need it a big fragrant hug
I have 2 books to pick up tomorrow, which is good because I am running low.
Really enjoying Hilary Mantel’s A Memoir of My Former Self meantime.
Heading out to Bath and Body Works to help a friend pick out some wallflower refills. But it’s mainly to make sure he stays under $20. Maybe I will get a candle for me. I get to keep my diamond status at Ulta for another year due to ordering the hair, skin and nail supplements I like. Wearing Eau Premiere today. My bottle is from when Eau Premiere was first launched.
You smell great! I love Eau Premiere and really should replace my bottle one day.
May I ask what supplement you like please? My hair can use some help. 😉 💇♀️
I use the Tula hair, skin, nails one with probiotics. It really helps if you have tummy issues.
I’ve never used supplements from that brand, but I really like their lip products.
Thank you, Dawn! I will try them.
Dawn, if you are regularly available to help people not spend more than their budget, I need to sign up 🙂
Happy thursday! SOTD is No 5 Eau Premiere.
Grateful to have lots of lovely smells and lovely friends to share them with on this blog.
I finally found the iris in Shalimar MI last night. I had on a sweater with the remnants of wearings past, and I got the most lovely rooty iris, with the caramel sweetness in the background. Curious if it just comes out on fabric more, or if it is the cooler weather doing it justice.
I think SMI smells incredible on fabric. I rather enjoy it, though I understand why some people aren’t taken with it.
Actually, Eau Premiere smells great on fabric as well. 💕
Good tip, I shall have to spray more on fabric! So many new facets to enjoy 🙂
I enjoy SMI on skin too! It is an easy wear for me when craving something sweet.
I noticed the iris-y aspect when I happened to overspray myself (probably 8-10 sprays!) I believe it was a cooler day then.
I don’t ever spray on fabric. I often don’t smell nuances but I am good with that. This from the person who typically wears 8 sprays 🤓
Just finishing my breakfast sandwich which was very filling! I feel like I need to sit and digest a bit while having my second cup of coffee. Then we’ll be off for a little walk about. I bought fresh cranberries the other day with the intent of making cranberry, orange, and white chocolate chip cookies. They are so festive looking and taste spectacular but I can’t find the recipe, which is hella frustrating. 😤
I’m wearing Shalimar MI because it gets so much love. I decided to be a bit heavy handed, doing four sprays which is a lot for me. After all, who am I going to offend? 😃
As for being thankful, I’m all about Neil deGrasse Tyson. Like Carl Sagan before him, he brings hard science to unscientific minds like mine in a way that is appealing and engaging. I hope we always have men and women like this whose only aim in life is to search for absolute truth. I wish I was cut from the same cloth but sadly my brain capacity it too limited. So, to all the scientists out there, a big THANK YOU! 🙌
oooh cranberry cookies sound delicious. hope the recipe turns up!
and you smell delicious 🙂
Thank you! As do you in No. 5 Eau Premiere!
I decided to copy you today for my second day in a row of this.
Ha! I copied you from yesterday. Maybe we should keep this up and see how long we go..! 😄
😀
Those sound like great cookies! Hope you can find the recipe?
Smelling great, Deva! I hope your cookie recipe surfaced. They sound right up my alley!
I will join you in thanking scientists!
Testing a couple of Gallagher samples right now, Tonkazure and O’Hello. Neither is FB worthy but I’ll wear the Tonkazure one for my SOTD.
I’m grateful for all the friends and lovely perfumes I’ve encountered along this journey over the pas 20+ years!
Perfume is a friendly hobby 🙂
Wearing Mitsouko today, one my favorites and definitely a perfume I’m grateful for.
Smelling good!
I’ve branched out to Le Lion. One small spritz is all I allow myself for work-this is a powerhouse, and I love it.
Lots of choas in the industry where I work-nothing serious, just one of those weeks. I’m grateful to have a drop of something gorgeous on.
yikes for chaos, hope u weather it easily!
thanks for reminding me of Le Lion, also a winter favorite of mine 🙂
Hoping the chaos is almost over for you!
I’m still in the remnants of last night’s Santal Kardamon and late late night’s addition of L de Lolita Lempicka.
I am floored: when I blind bought SK back in 2020 (those notes!) I was devastated when I hated it. Tried several times, couldn’t tolerate.
Yesterday it was delicious. The woody note that used to be so prominent and bug me is now just faintly supporting in the background.
Has my sniffer changed? Hormonal changes? Two bouts of COVID (though my smell wasn’t noticeably affected)?
Or did the perfume just change that much with age?
I wonder about changes like that, too. Don’t know the answer.
I noticed that perfumes I used to hate, I now love. I wonder if it has to do with age and possibly hormones. There was a time I couldn’t stand anything by Chanel and now I have quite a few from that house and really enjoy most of their fragrances.
It likely could be any of the above. I do seem to notice differences in how things smell to my now compared with how the smelled prior to menopause. It also seems that my skin does not eat perfume as fast as it used to–I now can get 4 to 6 hours out of perfumes that used to burn off in 2 or 3, or maybe my nose is just more sensitive. Perfumes, of course, do change in the bottle, and not just by spoiling or going off. Often they do get smoother and more blended over time. As for COVID, who knows?
Sampling Une Pistache today. Sweet and powdery…more almond than pistachio so far to my nose.
I am grateful to this blog and community. I have always loved perfume but but this group has helped me tap in to a whole new level of fragrance appreciation. Find your tribe and love them hard. ❤️
♥
I agree.
I just love that last sentence. ❤️
2nd what Nancyleandros said! ❤️ (I’m stealing, lol!)
I was trying to say just what She-ra says about the people of NST! It is *so* much fun to geek-out with all kinds of perfume people all over the world!
I had a craving for Fourreau Noir today, so i am smelling like a fur coat with lavender moth balls and leftover burnt almonds in the coat pocket….
It is a unique scent, although i doubt that i will ever finish the 30ml i have…
That’s a real underrated one, though I wish it lasted longer.
I’m in Ummagumma today, and thankful for NST for alerting me to it!
Smelling absolutely fabulous! That’s such dense yet airy multilayered perfume! 😍
Chergui today and thankful for Serge Lutens and his older fragrances that really opened my eyes to a new wide world of fragrance. Also thankful that back in the early 2000s when I really fell down the rabbit hole, MUA (MakeupAlley) allowed swapping and I was able to try so many things I would never have found otherwise.
I’m also thankful for incredible weather this week–so many glorious walks with blue sky and colorful leaves. ♥
You’re smelling great in the perfect fragrance for this lovely crisp weather🍁
Chergui is so special! You just reminded me of how I still miss swapping on the ol’ MUA. 😕
I’m grateful for all the perfume blogs and to Perfumes The Guide for mentioning Divine, which alerted me to the brand and led me to visit their shop in Dinard in 2009 or thereabouts. My SOTD is L’Ame Sœur, which I did not buy in Dinard but in their Paris shop. It’s the extrait and is utterly gorgeous.
This sounds very nice from reviews I have read.
Top of my mind for immediate gratitude is that it’s Friday, it’s been a hectic week. Yesterday’s trip to Auckland was taxi – plane – taxi – meeting room – taxi – plane – taxi – home and bed. It was great to meet new colleagues in person, but I wouldn’t want to do that sort of day very often.
Perfume-wise, I am so grateful I discovered NST years ago, you’ve all helped turn my budding perfumania into so much more.
I’m wearing 31 RC today, which is one of so many I learned about here.
I learned about 31 RC from here too and it is one of my all time favorites!
Wow, that sounds like a long day! Glad your weekend is here.
I’m in vintage Opium, from a swapmeet. Very grateful to have this, and for the opportunity to participate in swapmeets over the years.
Overcast here, in the low 60’s. Worked out today, made some phone calls and off to the grocery for soup ingredients. We’re having a meeting this afternoon to go over the plans to make cookies and candy over the first two weeks of December. The season is in full swing!
Sounds like it, if you need a meeting! My plans are much more low key and do not involve much food prep 🙂
But I do need to think about ordering the Xmas meat soon.
Hi all, we’re almost to Friday!
My SOTD is a discreet oil blend for a work party, A mix of Egyptian Musk, China Lily and China Rain (from Life perfumery SF).
Hope the work party is fun! I always liked Egyptian Musk and haven’t worn it in years.
Apples (Gala) and yogurt smoothie
I picked Atkinsons vintage Indolence, I got it last year I think, but didn’t pay attention to it much, but today I was bowled over by this fruity Chypre, present and long-lasting but not overwhelming, so I’m grateful to have discovered it. Tonight it’s VC&A Ambre Imperial.
Yay for being bowled over by a forgotten perfume!
SOTD = Abaton Chinotto Gourmand EDP
Delish! I am thankful for “masterclasses” that proliferated during COVID (or I should say in the U.S. since March 2020). I was introduced to new to me brands, including Abaton!

On the Guerlain extraits, I have decided to go with the Iris. Even though I am not leveraging the maximum discount, my target would have meant that I would have to buy 4 bottles! If I got a windfall, my next two will be Vanille and Tonka.
I am meeting up with a friend and one of her daughters on Saturday. They originally wanted to go to SoHo and/or Greenwich Village and we may still do that unless I find a nice stretch of shops with whimsical non-clothes offering. Grand Central and Bryant Park are off the table.
Chinotto Gourmand really does sound nice!
MUA..that’s where I started to go down the rabbit hole with scent some. Lol.
A perfume I am glad came into my life? Poison..without a doubt. A lady gave me a bottle she didn’t want in the early 90s. I couldn’t believe she didn’t want the bottle cause it smelled amazing. It became my sig, I still love it but do not like the modern, reformulated version.
And sigh, Estee Lauder was also a first love. Tuscany Per Donna..that was my first full bottle purchase. I went through several bottles lol. My good friend at the time loved it too and bought herself a bottle. So we both reeked of Tuscany. Lol fun times.
Sotd..I will go with Tresor, for ol’ times sake. I still get compliments when I wear this one:)
Poison became nearly a signature scent for me in the late 80’s; I didn’t wear it exclusively, but I did wear it more than anything else. I loved it then, but find it annoying now. I only ever had one bottle (so I must not have overapplied too much), and I still have about 1/4 of it left, so it is not a matter of reformulation. I don’t know whether my nose or tastes have changed, or if the perfume itself may have altered in the bottle.
I was a latecomer to Poison and now I love it!
What a great story – I loved Poison at first sniff, which was courtesy of a co-worker who got it for Christmas the year it came out! At that time, I was not very perfume-minded, but later I was grateful to be able to get some vintage Poison. Love Tuscany per donna, too!
Another original Poison fan here! I probably went through 2 bottles back in the day. I have a current version and also was able to get a vintage bottle which I treasure.
I’m wearing Iris 39 today. It’s one of the many fantastic iris scents I’ve learned about here. I’m grateful for all the wonderful people on NST who share their insight, are willing to swap and provide decants of their fragrances.
You smell lovely!
Thank you, allo!
I went for Chanel Cuir de Russie today and am so grateful that Chanel thought the Exclusifs were a good idea💡
I think they are the best of the Designer exclusifs.
Providence Perfume Company Violet Beauregard
Happy Thursday Barqs!
Checking in late to say that I’m in the dregs of a sample of L de Lubin, and grateful to the lovely NSTer who sent this to me.
Ack, can’t remember L de Lubin. Maybe I never tried it.
Today’s scent has been Parfum des Merveilles. The original EdT was a revelation and complete love at first sniff for me. I still love it completely! Since I only wear that one in the summer, the parfum version is the one for today. I bought a tester bottle of it way back when and I’m glad I did.
And I wear the Ambre in cooler weather. Will definitely be in Hermes tomorrow, not yet sure which one.
Hmm, one by JCE, perhaps? 😉
I wrote Ambre the other day and it took me right back to its launch. I still love it.
Wore 😅
I just now realized I didn’t wear perfume today. I had the day off but have been busy. I did have a scented lotion on. Bbw Sunrise Woods.
BBW scented lotions can have quite a bit of perfume power! I love Sensual Amber and, when it was around, Forever Midnight.
Finally got to smell SJP Lovely from a second-hand lot I recently found, so I’ll call that SotD. It’s the Lancaster version, so I don’t know if that’s OG or not. I can see how it became a hit, though I like Covet better.
You reminded me I used to have a perfume by Lancaster. I think it was called Sunwater. It was part of the 90’s Aquatic crowd of perfumes.
I just recently got to smell Covet. I prefer it over Lovely too.
