It's Monday and Mole Day. Birthdays: Johnny Carson, Pelé, Anita Roddick. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am feeling much better but still have a bit of lingering congestion...I'm probably going to be commando for a few more days.
Reminder: on 10/27 we're doing Specialty woods... wear a perfume with guaiac, cypress, oak, or some other specialty wood note we haven't already done (we've covered oud, sandalwood, cedar and evergreens).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello!
Sotd is 34 boulevard Saint Germain edp. It’s meant to invoke the wooden counters of Diptyque stores (with their perfumes, of course) so I guess it’s woody enough for this week’s CP!
The honey roasted pumpkin was a success! I candied some pumpkin seeds with sea salt and sprinkled them on top for that sweet-salty combo. Delish.
That’ll do it!
And wow, that sounds seriously delicious.
SOTD White Moss & Snowdrop Cologne on my neck area & Orange Bitters on wrists
My in-laws left this morning. My youngest was crying last night when he understood that when they come home from school that they will not be there.
Sip of the morning is Chai with coffee.
Aww, hugs to your youngest.😢
That is so sweet!
You smell wonderful. Hugs on the departure of your family.
My granddaughter does that when we leave too. It is so sweet, but heartbreaking that it just makes me want to stay.
Hugs to you and your youngest. Hope that your in-laws have an easy trip back home.
I am actually taking points today. I am wearing Selva do Brazil, which includes Guaiac Wood.
Nice!
Trying to shake off a gloomy mood this morning. It is very windy here and the temps will be in the upper 70s late this week. I believe the Soup of the Day will be Lilac Wine. Because I love lilacs, and, well, I could go for a glass of wine (maybe later).
I am moody too this morning.
Me three.
Day 3 of my mysterious Noire sample, it smells so good! A beautiful fall day here.
I hope you find out what it is!
If I don’t, at least it’s a nice big sample!
Shalimar body cream after my shower last night and topped off this morning with Shalimar MVP.
Happy Monday!
Happy Monday to you Deva! Hope everything is perfect in NM.
Smelling good.
It’s the last day of our vacation, and our last day in Paris — we fly out early tomorrow — so OBVIOUSLY it hammered down rain from the moment we stepped out of the metro station.
But we did make our way damply to the Serge Lutens boutique on Saint-Honoré, where I got Jim to smell the Scottish room spray. After it passed muster (I was afraid he would think it smelled like something actually afire), he left to wait outside. I smelled the other room spray that had intrigued me a couple of weeks ago, the Arabian-garden one, and it’s irresistibly gorgeous. So I bought them both.
On the same street as the newer Lutens boutique are a whole bunch of perfume shops: Le Labo, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Diptyque, Byredo, Jo Malone, and more. I resisted them all! But just down from L’Artisan was Fragonard, and I had to go in to smell their Vetiver, which I had bought on my first trip to Europe in 1981 when I knew nothing about anything. The saleswoman assured me that it hadn’t changed at all, but I doubt that: it doesn’t seem to have the celery note I remember. But I had to have it anyway. I was sniffing a few other things, of course, and she plucked up a bottle that I had just set down and said, “Oh, you don’t like Eau de Seducteur? You really have to try it on your skin!” and dive-bombed me with two big sprays. And after sniffing it for a minute, I had to admit that she was right: it really was me. So I bought them both.
And then we poked around Paris for another couple of hours before wetly conceding that the weather had won, so we headed back to the hotel after getting salads and drinks for supper. And that is why I am wearing Fragonard Eau de Seducteur today.
Sorry it’s rained so much but it’s not stopping you, which is great. I’ve enjoyed your posts.
What fun! Glad you bought so many things you wanted. Hope the trip home is smooth and easy.
Sounds like a successful day, despite the rain. Eau de Séducteur makes me laugh. Imagine someone asking what you’re wearing. LOL.
It is a very silly name, but it’s really appealing (and durable, not something I take for granted these days: I can still smell it 7+ hours later) and you can’t beat the price — €34 for 100 mL. Luca Turin used to deride the house regularly but if you’re not looking for high art, there are some little gems to be had.
I actually remember some reasonably positive reviews of his of some Fragonard scents, but maybe I just forgot about the other ones. I love Fragonard, their soaps are wonderful and I like some of their scents as well. The Fleur d’Oranger cologne is really lovely.
Sorry about the rain, but I’m sure the trees are grateful.
I hope you have safe trip home!
Sounds like a great day!
Your stay sounds smashing in spite of the weather, I am fond of Fragonard so bet you smell great, yay for clued up SA.
Sounds like a great time in Paris even if it was really squishy. Your SL room sprays are very intriguing!
Safe travels back home!
I’m in Molecule 01, my Monday fragrance.
Woke to rain this morning, which I wasn’t expecting. Tomorrow we are supposed to hit 75! 75!🤩 I will take it.
p.s. A friendly reminder that I still have not heard from 2 of the splitees that called dibs on my split. Please email me with your info! Thanks!
Ha, I would take 75!
Me too!
I just checked my weather. 71 tomorrow. I had no idea! Let’s enjoy it!🌞
For sure!🌞
Have a specific perfume for Mondays? Yes, you are a die hard perfumista.
I’ve made that commitment to finish that bottle of no 5 edt. I should be finished with it by Tuesday. I have lolly gagged enough on that one. I have tons of no 5, so one bottle won’t be missed. In no 5 edt today. If it’s not entirely finished by Wednesday morning, too bad, I am not going to keep the bottle for a tiny spray.
Go Dawn!! You can always use the last bits as air freshener or pillow spray.
I almost wore that one today. It is one of my favorite iterations of No 5. I agree with Robin. I have used some fragrances I wanted to finish as an air freshener too.
Congestion sucks. Hopefully it will go away soon, Robin.
I wanted to do a week of precious woods, but, as it often happens, after a research (this is not really wood, this is not precious wood, this note is only listed on Fragrantica etc.) I realized that nothing left on my list attracts me today. So no points for me – I am wearing Baiser Vole just because.
Oh, and I have just noticed that technically it’s specialty woods, not precious woods. That may make it a bit easier.
“Technically” is way too big a word to apply to the CP, ha! You know I don’t care. I was just trying to cover the woods we had not covered yet, which is a lot of woods 🙂
(And thanks, the congestion is actually really mild, I just see no point in irritating my nasal passages or lungs)
I have learned not to wear perfume if I’m even a little congested, because aside from any concerns about irritating my nasal passages, I only smell part of the perfume. Apparently, congestion will affect my sense of smell unevenly, with some notes coming through better than others. Top notes seems to come through better than base notes. The result is that the perfume smells “off”, so I don’t really enjoy it.
Just because is the best reason of all to wear perfume.
I love woody notes, and the theme this week reminded me that I have a bottle of CdG Sugi so that’s my SOTM. I store it with my travel set so I don’t often remember to wear it, and it’s one that requires the exact right mood anyway … but when the mood strikes, Sugi is glorious. And I’ve said it before — Antoine Maisondieu is YUM. 😍
Yay, you smell fantastic! I *still* wish CdG would release the Monocles in a 15 ml coffret, they were so good.
Woody notes will be fun– I should have lots of choice this week. Today is cool and cloudy and I’m in Ummagumma which counts: saffron and chocolate, incense and woods.
Spending at least part of the day fighting with Avis in Italy who charged us $150 extra for jumping the rental car which had an electrical issue and was not our fault. Sigh.
Oh, I guess Ummagumma doesn’t count for the cp — it has sandalwood, not a specialty wood. Anyway, it’s still wonderful!
Which is all that matters 🙂
Good luck with Avis!!
Argh. Good luck with the rental car dispute!
I’m wearing Onda Voile this morning. It doesn’t count for the CP, it has sandalwood in the base, but it fits with the gray dampish weather.
Over at the Splitmeet, I still have spots open for Ginger Biscuit!
Ack, I forgot to do a splitmeet reminder today. I will try again tomorrow!
No perfume yet today, as I had a Dr. appointment and bloodwork a little later, but afterward I will probably wear Bois d’Armenie, which includes guaiac wood. Yesterday I was in Oha, which, according to Basenotes, has “exotic woods”, which may count toward the CP. Fragrantica just lists “woody notes”.
You will be smelling great in Bois d’ Armenie!
I really like this one, but all I have is a tiny decant, and it is almost gone. Probably one more wearing out of it and that is it. There is no way I can justify buying a 100 mL bottle of it, especially for $380.
Glad you are feeling better Robin! I’m wearing LHB edp kindly gifted by a sweet NSTer. I have a ton of woods to the rest of this week will be easy.
So much better, thanks! Got stuff done today. But am pacing myself, I remember how long I was tired after covid last year.
Glad to hear that you are taking it easy Robin.
https://www.otagocentralrailtrail.co.nz/explore-and-discover/things-to-do-in-central-otago/must-do/sutton-salt-lake/
It was a beautiful day yesterday so went for a short trip to an inland salt land which is nestled in rolling hills, scattered with rocky tors. The reflections were wonderful as there was no wind. A lot of boulder copper butterflies and skinks everywhere. Great morning. Back to reality today after the long weekend and wearing Woodcut which has pine, oak and cedar notes. An almost-empty bottle.
That is just stunning. Having grown up in the Netherlands which is very densely populated, I’ve developed a decided preference for empty wide open spaces. It’s such a pity that NZ is so far away and that I don’t like flying very much, it seems like such a beautiful country.
Lovely. Wish I could do a ebike tour of New Zealand.
Good that you’re feeling better, Robin.
Inadvertent CP points for me in POTL Luctor et Emergo parfum, which apparently includes “precious woods,” whatever they may be.
I rummaged in the archives for this one and have worn it most days of the past week. I find it relaxing. (Juice has darkened and the cherry note seems to have intensified over the past few years, which I consider a positive.)
Ah, you smell fantastic, and I’m sure all those precious woods are in the cp 😉
No points today as I am in POAL and the only wood in it is sandalwood. Hope everyone has a great week. We are going to be around 70 today, but then rain and possibly snow at the end of the week.
Snow — it’s too soon! Enjoy the 70.
Lots of people are enjoying lovely weather right now!
I have been avoiding my long range forecast, but now I have to go and check for snow!
Smelling great, Kris! Hope your temps got to 70!
I saw your further comments on Tabu. I haven’t seen that version before. I bet it would have been good one to stash in your purse.
And it could have been a different perfume, but I was sure that’s what it was. It was probably 50 years ago.
Pears, apples and yogurt smoothie
A beautiful fall day with no rain and this morning I reached for Dia because I hadn’t worn it in a long time, and tonight I’m in Merchant of Venice Mystic Incense which I love everytime a little bit more, don’t be afraid of the gourmand notes, they are not the main player to my nose, the incense is front and center.
We had a lovely day too, and my son and I managed a small amount of long overdue outdoor clean up. Now I am back on the sofa 🙂
Gorgeous day triplets with you and Robin today Aurora.
I don’t know if Cristalle has any specialty woods, but that is what I’m wearing. I got both my flu and covid shots today. Courtesy of my employer and the Luxembourg government.
Glad to hear you are on the mend Robin!
Both Basenotes and Fragrantica list rosewood as a note in Cristalle, so that counts.
Yes, I had it on my list for the week for the rosewood, although I suspect no real redwood dies for the making of perfume these days, if it ever did.
Anyway, that’s true of many wood notes so whatever!
I’m racing by to say that I’m wearing the woodiest perfume I own, Moon of Baroda from Thameen. It’s cedar, so not something unusual, but it has unusually large amounts of cedar 🙂
I do love cedar, I should smell that one some day.
I’m wearing Rose and Me from Coreterno today.
I’ve never heard of this but I bet you smell good!
Great name too!
What is Rose and Me like?
Go to the Coreterno website. It’s pretty wild how it opens up.
What is Rose and Me like?
SOTD = Scents of Wood Vanilla in Armagnac
I am not well-versed in alcoholic beverages, so much so that I thought Armagnac was a type of wood. Wrong! It is actually a type of brandy. In any case, they are aged in oak barrels so I am with the CP. The perfume is very vanilla, with notes of chocolate, vetiver, and a bitter resin – all delightful.

I re-started my subscription this year as last year an NSF-related subscription was on offer and the benefits were not compelling. Anyway, this was the first perfume for this cycle and I was shocked at the packaging! Shocked in a good way because it was very compact and elegant and took up no space at all!
I probably should not criticize and I sincerely hope they are happy together, but you know me 🤣. The fiance showed up at the appropriate juncture towards the end of the bridal shower to participate in a game. When he came, he had a bunch of white roses that he was giving to each participant. HE RAN OUT by a good 10 flowers (there were 40 of us). If his only jobs were to show up on time and bring enough flowers, he succeeded in 50% of what he was supposed to do. I haven’t heard great things about this guy but I hope they end up happy.
That made me laugh…I do not drink it though so not sure why I knew what it was.
If he succeeded in 50% of what he was supposed to do he will be an improvement on many, many spouses 🙂
Did he at least look like he felt bad about not having enough rose’s for the whole group? He might just be bad at math!🤣
I know exactly what Armagnac is… expensive AF on a restaurant drinks menu! It goes for an eye popping sum.
I brushed my teeth w/ my Acacia tree toothpaste from Kenya, so there’s some wood in there:)
SOTD will be Sana Jardin Sandalwood Temple.
Went out to dinner last night w/ a friend who kept an eye on my house while we were gone. Scrubbed my entire shower from the inside out with the pink stuff. It smelled really nice! And washed all the bathroom rugs in this house. So the spring rolls were deserved.
Two interviews this week, one for full time, one for part time. At 70, I really want to go part time. I also want a bottle of Orange Bitters.
And, was it delicious? Does it taste woody? Or is it flavored with the flower?
It was tasty. Not minty, not woody, not too sweet.
Interesting!
Will you get the Orange Bitters after a successful interview? Or just get it anyway?
The sephora sale starts next week and they sell Orange Bitters.
Ooh… exotic toothpaste sounds marvelous! I’m not sure anything could top Marvis Karakum for me but I’m game to find out. Love Pink Stuff too for cleaning bath tile especially with my battery powered spin brush which come to think of it, looks a little like an electric toothbrush 😂
Off CP but very pretty, Chanel No22.
Adorable hubby sniffed a scent strip of Devotion in a Vogue, and said, “It’s pretty -I like it. It smells familiar.” I think I will get some to wear for his get well soon perfume…
Devotion is very pretty and I really like the name.
You smell beautiful in No.22.
Devotion is the perfect name for a “Get Well, Loved One!” perfume.
SOTD is Tea for Two thanks to a sample from tulipani. I smell like spicy tea deliciousness with a gingersnap on the side.
I’m drinking Clipper Ship’s Log Cabin tea to match it, although this is strong on star anise rather than ginger.
I saw Killers of the Flower Moon this weekend. I thought it was very well done (shocker — Scorsese made a good movie! 😂) and I was interested in the story because I knew nothing about the events, so it didn’t feel “slow,” but it did feel “long.” I wish intermissions for movies longer than two hours was a thing.
Thanks for the report, that is on our list to see, but 3 hours and 26 minutes! Ugh. I saw the length and now I might have to wait til I can stream it. That would feel long for me. I’ve never seen Titanic because: too long!😂
It was like Oppenheimer was the training and this was the actual marathon! The Run Pee App was essential for both 😂
Run Pee App?
Oh, it is great for long movies and, ahem, small bladders. It tells you when there is a (relatively) slow part in the movie so you can run to the restroom without missing anything important. You can even set it to vibrate your phone and at the right time
Ah, good to know!
I’m sure I have some perfumes that fit the CP but couldn’t think of any today. Hinoki is in SOMETHING I must have! And rosewood/palisander. I’ll look more tomorrow. After looking without success in some boxes of samples and travel sprays today I put on Byredo Super Cedar. It’s just kind of ok, poor lasting power and no sillage. I don’t really enjoy the smell of cedar that much anyway. To compensate I have lavished on one of my new samples from Luckyscent, Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia. I ordered that along with two others from their Italian series, Bergamotto something and Mandarine something. (Did I mention it’s still summer here, in case these citruses sound odd?) The Arancia is the clear winner in my book, but not sure I’m going to invest in a whole bottle of it. Perhaps I can find a decant.
I was a studious painting student today and worked on three different paintings, which are all pretty good, and have started a new one today that will be much more delicate and flowy. I tend to use bold colors and my teacher says I like to use “too many squiggles”–It’s true! Lol!
Squiggles are your style!
If I recall correctly, Perry’s Monte Carlo has travel sizes.
IIRC, Dior Dune has rosewood in it.
No CP points for me today in Patchouli Ardent: lovely but not unique. I have and enjoy Musc Noble from Les Absolues d’Orient, and the second-release of Encens Mythique (but still in the older bottle). I’m inclined to think that these all have a lot in common; between PA and MN, skin chemistry – or favorite bottle – would have to decide.
Who is the house for Patchouli Ardent? Guerlain?
Yes – should have said that.
Gorgeous autumn day here! But there’s a Frost Advisory for my area tonight. First one of the season. 🍁🍂🥶
I thunked my Korres Guava shower gel this morning. Fortunately, I have a backup in the Body Products Stash. But I went to LUSH this afternoon for some sniffing, and came home with 4 shower gels, plus a travel size Lord of Misrule perfume. The new Flower Gel shower gel is *very* nice; too bad it is a limited edition.
SOTD = Korres Grecian Gardenia body butter on my shins. Commando perfume-wise.
We’re Lush twins, one day apart! I got the mid-sized version of Candy Rain (conditioner) and a limited edition soap Christmas Cranberry.
And hooray for your Korres Guava shower gel thunk!
That’s funny!
Which shower gels did you get?
A small Rose Jam, a small Grass, a small Good Karma, and the medium size Flower Gel, which is a limited edition for Diwali. This year’s version of Lord of Misrule seemed kind of wimpy, so I passed it up.
I could have grabbed more, but I exercised a bit of willpower today. My credit card is thankful for small mercies.
I will look for the Flower gel next time I go to Lush.
I saw the Flower Gel on their website yesterday and thought it sounded good. Thanks for the confirmation!
Oh, do I need the Flower Gel? Is it mostly ylang & rose?
SO satisfying thunking a shower gel. Yay for the new buys too.
I went sniffing at my Big Sephora today. I tried The 7 Virtues Cherry Ambition which is a very good dark cherry perfume. No cough syrup detected. I found at Ulta a body mist from the brand Truly called Ma Cherie that is also a dark cherry and I ended up buying. It’s a decent enough price with the coupon and comes in a glass bottle. It will be great layered with BBW Black Cherry Merlot. I also tried Jhag Ode to Dullness which I would recommend if you like soap and ambroxan. My official sotd is Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid.
Soap + ambroxan sounds like a nightmare perfume to me! ACK!
I should retry a cherry perfume someday soon. They used to not work for me at all. Maybe that’s changed?
I was smart this time and didn’t spray on skin. I think though that someone that likes clean smelling perfume would like it.
The cherry combo sounds good!
So glad to read you’re on the mend Robin.
Still Life in Rio by Olfactive Studio today. It has Copaiba Balm, an oleoresin from several South American leguminous trees.
TBH I was wearing it already, looked up the balm and voila! So, very happy outcome for a sunny late spring day in Sydney.
“Oleoresin” is perfume-speak for smelling great!
HA! Thanks Jalapeño
I got my covid and flu shots yesterday so I was a bit tired today. I just wore C&E Almond lotion.
Hope you are much better tomorrow Gail!
