It's Thursday and National Pulled Pork Day, plus Freethought Day. Birthdays: Ann Petry and Sam Moore. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points for the sandalwood in Chanel Bois des Iles.
Reminder: on 10/13, we're off to India! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in India, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to India, or that features an Indian ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in PG Cadjmere for the CP (name + sandalwood). It is so sweet and comforting, and I love honeyed resins in it.
That’s a good one.
You smell lovely, I have it too.
I pulled out Demeter Gingerale today. Bobbled the splash bottle and spilled it all over, so this should last awhile.
Oh no! Enjoy the fizz though!
Jasmine and roses for the CP in Jean Patou Joy. I rarely reach for it these days, but it is always a delight when I wear it.
Happy Thursday! ☕️
You smell beautiful. I am still very angry that Joy is no more…
It is so sad that such a classic, beautiful scent was discontinued, but it can still be found for a good price.
Joy!
It is a joy to wear it!
Happy Thursday!🌷
Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌻
Not only you smell lovely, but also CP-compliant, in my opinion. The famous Flower Duet from Lakme (set in India) repeatedly mentions jasmine and roses.
“Under the thick dome where white jasmine with the roses entwined together”.
Precisely!
Joy is beautiful!
Indeed!
I remember having a brief sniff of Joy at Neiman Marcus when it was still available in department stores. But I was already wearing 12 other perfumes at the time. Poor planning on my part!
I regret not getting a back up bottle when it was still available, but those days I didn’t know anything about reformulations or discontinuation.
I recently saw some bottles on Fragrance Net. But who knows what that version is like? 🤷♀️
Hello.
Sotd is Zara Blanc Ensoleille by Olivia Giacobetti. Fresh coconut with a bright bergamot opening and a touch of sea salt. Pretty good and for that price, no complaints!
I just started using my Smooth Violet reed diffuser from Rituals. It smells so nice. I really like Rituals (especially their The Ritual of Jing line). I feel like they are less known and imo deserves more attention.
Zara is punching well above its price point lately in perfumes. I’ve grabbed a couple too.
I was just looking at the Smooth Violet…is it very violet-y? Or more violet leaf?
It is definitely more floral-violet-y but not enough to become lipstick/make-uppy (that would be verrry nice though). And it is also sweet, which I did not expect.
Have you tried Guerlain French Kiss? If not, try to get the one before it got discontinued. Rose Cherie is nothing like it.
I loved French Kiss! It’s another one that I regret not buying. And you are right, Rose Cherie has nothing on FK.
Thank goodness Lipstick Rose is still around (and I have a bottle) to fill the makeup-y scent part of the perfume spectrum.
Thanks!
That sounds like a nice diffuser — I should look into that for the next one. I just started one that’s making me very happy — Sweet Grapefruit from P. F. Candle Company.
Ooo, their Ojai Lavender and Wild Herb Tonic sound good too!
I was just looking at Rituals website. Have you tried any of their perfumes?
I have. They are easy to wear and not too overly complex. What I really like is that they make 15ml mini spray bottles of every scent (I hate rollerball).
I own Poeme D’Azar which is a fruitchouli with a tonka base (discontinued) and and Eau D’Orient, a spicy incense-amber.
They are very reasonably priced.
Just gave myself a little spritz of Sira des Indes by Patou. Lightly spiced banana and chai. MMMMMM
I’m with PL67, grrrrrr to LVMH for DCing the Patou fragrances.
Bought and tried Licorice tea yesterday. So different but delicious.
You smell wonderful! I love Sira des Indes!
Thanks PL67,
It was ignored here for a long while but then when the Patou frags got the chop I went back to my bottle and have been enjoying it immensely, even bought a backup at crazy cheap prices on FragNet.
Have you ever tried Marvis Licorice toothpaste? It’s pretty cool.
No Kanuka, we did have a small Mavis sample but it was minty. I can’t even imagine liquorice toothpaste. Bet it’s super strange the first few uses?
That’s a good one. But I am addicted to the Black Forest now. I hope they are still making it.
HA! Temptress Robin. Black Forest TOOTHPASTE?!?
It is delicious. I really like Karakum too. But they might both be limited edition.
Such a bummer about Patou.
Yeah, there were murmurs that LVMH was going to try and resurrect the fashion of Patou. Surely that would follow with fragrance…
It seems so weird to be in a world living without Joy,
That last sentence of yours is eerily predictive and disturbing if taken slightly out of context. 😵😵💫
HA! Yes, double meaning. Nice catch, bad double meaning.
Great minds think alike! I’m in Sira des Indes today too! I grabbed a bottle when Patou’s closing was announced. We smell great!
OMG! That is so cool Old Herbaceous. This collaboration we do must be rubbing off on us.
I can’t believe how cheap the Patois are going on FragNet, especially SdI.
I chose Commes des Garcons original, full of spices, incense and sandalwood.
You smell excellent ringthing!
YES to incense!
Such a good choice.
My favourite spice for the CP, Cardamusc by Hermes. I love putting cardamom in my tea.
I do too! And making granola with cardamom & nutmeg right now actually.
That sounds so good!!
Today I am wearing vintage L’Aimant. Drugstore fragrances really used to compete with the big boys.
So true.
They sure did.
I’m also taking sandalwood points, in my case in Tam Dao. Such a beautiful scent.
Yes it is!
Inspired by pl76, I’m in TDC Jasmin de Nuit for the cp.
Side note about The Different Company, I have a few bottles where the first hit of the fragrance has definitely gone off due to a leaky spraying apparatus. The bottles are beautiful but it seems like there’s something faulty in the design.
You smell wonderful!
😊
Interesting. I have two pretty old bottles and they both still seem okay. That said, one of them twists open from the bottle more easily than it should.
That’s exactly what I’ve found too. Seems like it can’t be good for the juice over the long haul.
Gabrielle Essence today-for the library, as I am volunteering later today. Though I am not crazy about this perfume, it has a nice silage
My in-laws are in route to NYC-and I am awaiting my first cup of chai tomorrow morning.
Yay for fresh chai!
I can’t wait
Gabrielle Essence is very nice. I think it is perfect for the library.
It’s easy and non offensive scent
Safe travels for your in-laws!
Just finishing my second cup of scorching brew and getting ready to hit the trail on a very windy, cool day. I have not applied perfume yet, but I’m leaning towards NV Trayee, but can’t find it at the mo..? Must be in with my small bottles and samples, I hope.
The narrow gauge train ride yesterday was wonderful and the views amazing. Aspens are at their peak right now and they’re really putting on a show. I spent almost the whole day out in the open car, enjoying all the sights, the wind, and the cold. At the summit, we had a bit of a snow flurry. Plus, I had hours of people watching! I love being the fly on the wall and watching people in tight spaces interact. A lot of grumbling, a few well behaved children, one PIA child, but mostly people were courteous, I’m happy to report. There’s a link to a photo below, cheers!

The pictures looked beautiful! Enjoy the hike!
Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! This was me too in an open car (Canada) although really it was at the end of a car. The only other brave soul as it was cold was this guy who works in clinical trials at a pharmaceutical company.
This open car was in the middle, the last two cars were for the upper echelon, and we plebeians were forbidden to enter. 😆
Ohh, those aspens!
Gorg, no?🤩
Wow! Very nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.
👍🏼
Beautiful trees and train. What’s the history of the track/ train…was it for logging?
https://cumbrestoltec.com/about-us-2/cumbres-toltec-history/
Thanks. Interesting.
Splendid about the train.
So glad I did it!
I teared up seeing the Aspens in your pic. So pretty!
So lovely!
I’m in MCMC Noble today, which has Indian jasmine, so I’m on CP. Otherwise, it’s inspired by Nepal, so only CP-adjacent.
I reckon you definitely get the points for Indian Jasmine.
I’m in Santal Majuscule for the CP. Missing the autumn leaves in Canada but the dog and I had a nice sunset walk to the lookout point near our houselast night.
What a great perfume. Hope you get another nice walk today.
When will you be going back to Canada?
April 1st 🙂
Happy Thursday!
Today I am in Diptyque 34 boulevard Saint Germain EDT.
You smell great!
Thank you 😊
A picture-postcard-pretty fall day here. I’m wearing a drop of Rose Flash layered over my vanquish-the-hormonal-grumpies essential oil blend, which is actually a gorgeous combo with the oils giving some extra curvaceousness plus a bit of herbal grit to the Rose Flash. Awake since 4am and I smell much better than I feel, but hoping my fragrance will take me by the hand and lift me up into a more cheerful place.
Alas, we are “awake at an Ungodly hour” twins today. BLAH!
Hope you’ve been able to power through! I got to get out in the woods today for a spot of field work and a decent hike, and it helped so much. Fatigue just feels more wholesome and manageable, somehow, when you’re sweating your way up a hill and not sitting at a desk!
I tried to stick to physical tasks today. Just couldn’t brain much at all.
Isabella, hope the Rose Flash + oils did their job! Or, hope you are asleep by now 🙂
Rain, rain and more rain today. That’s okay as we need it. It is very chilly as well in the 40’s and 50’s.
SOTD is Coco Noir body cream and perfume.
I love the body cream
Glad to hear that you are getting some much needed precip.
Same here, predicted for the next 3 days. Stay warm!
I’m trying Jaipur Chant by Sana Jardin for the CP. It was a sample I received in a swap along with a few others by the brand. It’s a perfectly fine citrus-forward BWF. It’s not doing anything different than other BWFs, but it’s nice enough.
Has anyone else recently switched to their fall shower gels? I was getting sick of my summer ones so I’m really happy to now be using Lord of Misrule and Molton Brown Ylang Ylang. The Molton Brown isn’t a tropical ylang ylang. Rather, it smells like a vintage perfume to me, namely Coty L’Origan. It’s good for early fall. Still using my Fzotic Limonata bar soap that I started on last month. I like it ok, but I think it’s a bit misnamed. I get more of a citrus amber geranium than anything lemon fizzy.
Oh yes, I got out Sticky Dates and Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte!
I need to finish up a rose scent bar soap and then I’m breaking out Sticky Dates!
I haven’t pulled out any fall/winter shower gels yet. Some that I have are used year-round.
Sampling Empire des Indes, Oriza Le Grand heliotrope and amber, sugary spice. I am heading to a seaside town today to give a talk and take a weekend writing workshop. It’s a nice drive up the coast, rolling green hills on one side and rolling waves on the other. I have sometimes spotted some Hectors/ Maui dolphins, so hope that happens today as they are very rare. They always seem to cruise close to the beach and have a very round fin so quite easy to identify.
https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/marine-mammals/dolphins/hectors-dolphin/
What kind of writing ?
Fiction, though also helpful for nonfiction. The focus is on the five senses and how digging deep into the senses can help with scene setting, imagery, atmosphere/ tone, character etc. etc. We will build a series of rooms ( each set at a different time of day) each one based on one of the senses…e.g. the kitchen at 2am with a focus on sound. It’s part of a Janet Frame weekend.
Your perfume and your drive sound splendid!
These dolphins are adorable, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing that link. I enjoyed it!
Oriza Legrand make beautiful perfumes, is this one of their new ones Kanuka?
Dolphins!
Thanks for the link Kanuka, I love sea mammals. I hope you have a good trip and workshop.
Thank you. The dolphins seem to have a “ favourite” beach where they hang out. One of the interesting studies showed that during Covid, when there were no cruise ships in a particular harbour, the dolphins returned in quite measurable numbers. Now cruise ships are back it is anticipated that the dolphins will disappear again….engine noise. I would really love the ships to be banned.
It must really aggravate them on some level and I imagine sound plays a huge part in their world. I just love their grace, athleticism and playfulness.
I’m on my fourth NV, Bombay Bling. Sunny, happy and a little loud.
Saving Neela for tonight.
CP compliant today in Radio Bombay from DS & Durga. Sandalwood and something metallic. It’s fine… shoulda gone with Bois des Îles or Shalimar instead. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow!
LOVE Radio Bombay. so cool
But extra points for the name!
I’m sampling Boswellia by Fiele Fragrances for its Indian frankincense. The opening reminded me of my beloved Jasmin de Nuit, but the drydown has a myrrh note that isn’t sitting with me. I do own and like Cedrus from this brand. They are from Los Angeles and seem to be under the radar here in the east.
Bit the bullet and scheduled a furnace/AC replacement, to replace my two original units from when they built my building in… 1988. I think it’s time.
Better safe than sorry…
Had to go to the BMV to get my updated ID and about to go to the grocery store to make a return. The bottom of the tortilla shells pack I got were split and didn’t notice until I got home last night. Wearing no 5 edt today. It’s either Bombay Bling or Nasomatto Nuda for tomorrow.
Hope all your errands went smoothly Dawn!
Chanel Boy. My nose has been off lately, i think it has to do with my gut, since suddenly most scents feel thick, syrupy and overwhelming. Boy has been mostly doable. So that’s what I am doing 😀
Ugh, sorry to hear that your sniffer isn’t acting right.
Do what works!
My new bottle of CSP Aloha Tiare came yesterday, so I had to try it out today. I smell very tropical.
Congrats on your new bottle!
Banana, apple and yogurt smoothie
I spent the day in Nina Ricci Farouche and tonight another vintage favorite Must de Cartier, the green Shalimar as I call it.
Have you ever sampled Scherrer’s One Love? It was on Fragrantica’s homepage last week or so. The article’s author made it sound nice, but when I checked comments, there were multiple remarks that it smelled like air freshener. Anyway, it’s unusual to run across Scherrer in the U.S.
I do occasionally enjoy the original Scherrer, acquired years ago on ebay. Bet Farouche is a good one–you often mention covetable vintage scents.
Thank you very much, I’m not familiar with One Love, off to Fragrantica to check. Yes, original Scherrer is a wonder, especially the EDP. Farouche is well worth sampling, still detectable on my wrists, it’s the EDT but I also have the extrait, I should start wearing it instead of idiotically saving it.
Must de Cartier is one of the perfumes that I associate with you.
Thank you so much, you remember so well about my favorite perfumes, yes Must is one of them, definitely.
I meant to welcome you home the other day but I don’t think I did.
I’m continuing on with my PdN week in vintage Sacrebleu thanks to a swap with DeniseH. Time has morphed this particular juice: the top notes melded into an indistinct fruit juice note, and the floral notes are barely a whisper, but the heavier notes are intact. Overall, I like this version. Fruit, some spice, and round warm base of smooth sandalwood, peru balsam, tonka, vanilla, and a good dose of olibanum. Perfect for a cool fall day. I’ll take a CP point for the sandalwood.
More Earl Gray tea today, along with a vanilla-cardamom-sandalwood candle that compliments the Sacrebleu nicely.
Oh, who makes the candle?
Siblings Candles. They sell kits where you melt the wax in a pouch and then pour it into your own vessel. I’ve been impressed with their scent combos.
Thanks!
Jambo fragrant friends. SOTD is gold bond powder. I have the itchies from something. But I will be ready for tomorrows’ CP.
Robin, the picture is beautiful, Varanasi is truly like no where else I have been.
While very slowly unpacking, I opened several boxes of photos from a trip there with my first husband. The pictures are old now, so = I am old. Yeah, sounds about right. We spent about six weeks, maybe more traveling across India and then from Goa to the north to Sikkim, when it was still a small kingdom. We took the narrow gauge train, the toy train to Darjeeling, one of my fondest memories ever.
Our safari was wonderful. The weather was perfect almost every day and there had been recent rain in Serengheti making everything so soft and green. The Four Seasons had made things ready for my sister’s birthday when we arrived after many flights. The animals were so plentiful and on our way from one airstrip, we saw a newborn giraffe, still blonde with no markings. Baby ellys, baby rhinos, lion cubs.
We went to Oldvai Gorge this time to see where the Leakeys made their discoveries and went on walking safaris. Bush dinners where a lion was close in enough to feel like an uninvited guest!
We traveled overland from Nairobi to Maasai Mara and saw the harvest moon rise over the equator along the border of Tanzania and Kenya. We visited Karen Blixens’ house and the Giraffe Center and Sheldrake and stayed at Hemingways.
We went to Diani Island off the coast and slept next to the white sand of the Indian Ocean and ate all the papaya at the breakfast buffet.
Every day was just what we wanted. Yes, the small flights are often cancelled but you never know what you might see on some other flight.
Of course I have the best travel companion of all with my sister.
I got into Amsterdam a few hours before she did and took my time walking through duty free before I headed out of the airport to scope out what I wanted on our way home through Paris.
That’s when I sampled the Chloe Vanilla Planifolia. I loved it right away and tucked a card of it in my backpack. The warm spices won me over and I decided to pick up a bottle on the way home. I bought a few cosmetics and I did get a tester of the Guerlain Tobacco Honey, but haven’t tried it yet.
My goal was to come home with money and I did that.
We are now targeting Uganda for September 2025 to visit the gorillas.
I had a spell of dehydration in Kenya and the in house nurse practitioner gave me an IV of saline in our suite. The cost for this was $20.00.
That’s the update!
Sounds like a wonderful trip! Brings me back to our safari last year in Zambia — really such a special experience. Glad to hear all went well!
Oh my! What a great trip! So happy you had good weather and your best travel companion. I bet your photos are amaze-balls! Hoping you’re now rested and recovered. That perfume is the perfect purchase and what memories you’ll associate with it! Glad you’re back safe and sound. 😊
What a fabulous trip!
That sounds like a truly incredible, once-in-a-lifetime journey!
Your trip sounds amazingly fabulous!
Wow, amazing. I’m glad your trip was everything you wanted.☺️
What a wonderful adventure! Thank you for sharing. You have inspired me to plan a biggish trip. 😉
Oh yay, thank you for the trip report! It all sounds wonderful, and congrats for coming home without having broken the bank.
(And your trip to India must have been amazing. You have the best travel memories!)
Both trips sound like they were amazing!
SOTD was Mohur, so full CP points for that one. On my wrist right now is Shiseido Memoire from the bottle that arrived today. I claim bonus points for it since it lists sandalwood among the notes, although I have no idea if any of it comes from India. To my nose it is a very soft, powdery, sweet aldehylic floral. Some of the reviews on Fragrantica compare it to no. 5, but I find it much gentler and softer than no. 5. If no. 5 is a tailored suit, then Memoire is a cashmere sweater. If anyone is wondering, yes, I am trying to track down all the elusive “not sold directly in the U.S., and/or discontinued years ago, but available from ebay and such” Shiseido fragrances. Ordinarily, blind buys do not work out well for me, but Shiseido seems to be an exception to that. I have blind bought Mai, Murasaki, Saso, Hanatsubaki, Koto, and now Memoire, and have not disliked any of them. I am thinking that there does seem to be a sort of olfactory signature to Shiseido fragrances that make them recognizable as Shiseidos. One I have not succeeded in sniffing yet, but would love to, is Suzuro. There is no way I am blind buying a $500+ bottle, but none of the decant sellers I have looked at have that particular one.
I had no idea they made so many perfumes.
Most of their perfumes seem to be Japan-only, and the ones they do sell in the US only seem to be offered for a short time. The last time I walked past a Shiseido counter, I think the only perfume they had was the current iteration of Zen.
Popping by a bit later than usual, I’m still on holiday with my mother visiting, so I’m way out of my usual routine. At least I will be up with the CP today in Trayee.
You smell very beautiful, I wore Trayee yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hope your mom is enjoying her visit Gaynor!
Sleep deprived today. I didn’t fall asleep until sometime after 2am, and then woke up around 7 this morning. Not quite thinking clearly as a result. At least I got groceries without forgetting anything on my list. 😉😴
SOTD = The Body Shop British Rose Body Butter on my shins. Figured I’d change things up today. And there is some association between roses and India, right?
I had the British Isles shower gel and I chucked it as it was never ending. Oy, and I just realized I have a tendency to toss shower gels 🤔 …
I tend to get smaller sizes of shower gels so I use them up before I get bored if possible. Sometimes, though, the humungo size is all that is available.
If I have a shower gel that I am not using or have gotten bored with, I will often repurpose it as a liquid hand soap by transferring it into a pump dispenser. We tend to prefer liquid soap for hand washing, and go through it faster than shower gel.
Good idea!
Those kind of nights are the worst! Toss and turn and keep looking at the clock. I hope you sleep like a rock tonight!😴
Thanks! Hopefully my body will get the memo. 🤣
Good luck getting through your sleep deprived day Jalapeño,
Hope tonight is a better sleep.
Roses on your shins, is it wafting up and making you feel like a rose scented princess on every step?
Thank you Portia!
I didn’t drool on myself today, so I think I survived all right.
If I want to smell like a princess, I will go for jasmine on my shins. Roses are more of a comfort scent for me.
YAY for not being a drooling mess. Definitely a win.
Hope you will sleep better tonight, no fun to be sleep-deprived. I like reading what lotion or cream you use.
Sleep dep really does suck. I have plenty of lotions that I enjoy using. And since I will be headed to a drier climate, they all will come in very handy.
Sleep well Jalapeno.
Thank you lillyjo!
Thanks to a generous nster I am trying out Synthetic Jungle today. I really like it. It is similar to L’ombre dans L’Eau so I so far haven’t been able to talk myself into getting it yet. Lol.
My washing machine finally quit working. I hope to replace it tomorrow.
Dang, that is a bummer! My daughter texted me yesterday and was like “the dryer won’t turn on” and I thought: great. But I got home and it turned right on for me.🤷♀️
Do you know what kind of washer you’ll get?
Hopefully high quality and on super sale! Lol
Idk… just whatever is affordable and does the job.
That bites!
My family and I have had to replace a few washing machines. But the clothes dryers usually last forever. Go figure!
The dryers are simpler, with fewer moving parts, so there is just less to break. I figure it is kind of like how furnaces usually last longer than air conditioners.
My brother actually had to replace his dryer recently but still has the first clothes washer he ever bought. It’s kinda weird.
The one I have now is about 15 years old. The previous one belonged to my Grandmother, who of course had it forever.
I haven’t had any last longer than 13 years, give or take. You’re doing better than I am.
I had to replace my washer and dryer a couple of years ago. The dryer still sort of worked (one of the cycle choices didn’t work, and the drum would keep tumbling after the heat cycle ended), but I figured if I had to get a new washer, I would get a whole set and have two machines that completely worked. I had had them for almost 32 years, though, so I couldn’t get too upset about them finally wearing out. When I went to look at replacement machines, I told the sales guy that I didn’t care about wi-fi or “smart” machines or having to build an entire computer program to do my laundry or having to answer twenty questions about the fiber content and stains or having machines that would order laundry supplies for me; I just wanted machines that would wash and dry my clothes and last a long time.
I realized I needed a new washer when I heard horrible noises coming from the laundry room and when I walked in to see what was up, there was smoke coming out of the washer.
Ack! That’s scary!
Mine is barely limping along. I don’t want to wait any longer.
Yikes! Smoke is never, ever good!
Sorry about your washer, I hope you find what you want to replace it. Maybe someone has a good Halloween sale going on.

Gorgeous spicy amber!

I got great customer service today! I called my county’s Election Board regarding my damaged mail-in ballot and they will send me another ballot. Also, I just signed up to be a poll worker – there’s no guarantee but hey, why not?
Huzzah about the great customer service!
Good luck on the Poll Worker thing Hajusuuri
That’s great!
Speaking of elections, I had to explain election cycles to a young coworker. She thought this year was the Presidential election.
Oh my.
Good for you! I’ve been a volunteer poll watcher and election volunteer, it’s very rewarding to see and help our fellow citizens exercise their right to vote!
SOTD: Jean Patou’s Sira des Indes. It turns out I have more fragrances than I thought that evoke India! Bengale Rouge, yesterday’s SORD, was still fragrant on my wrists this morning.
India is not hard, right?
