It's Hump Day, plus National Taco Day, National Cinnamon Roll Day and World Animal Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm copying Gail yesterday in Lush Silky Underwear, which is a silly name and also a silly match with today's silly hat image.
Reminder: 10/6 is Mad Hatter day. Wear your silliest perfume, or come up with a silly excuse to wear whatever perfume you wanted to wear anyway.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Charles Jeffrey Chunky Raccoon Beanie ("Having become a true Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY staple, this beanie is crafted in an ultra-soft lambswool blend, topped with the perky ears of a woodland creature, and prominently featuring the LOVERBOY fox patch") is $200 at Dover Street Market.
Hello!
Sotd is Kilian Angel’s Share. Spicy cognac with an amber-woody base. I really like this and I am tempted to get it once I finish my sample. Perfect for the cooler months.
Sidenote: I love raccoons. They are SO cute.
Raccoons are adorable…I almost never see them anymore, just foxes & groundhogs.
Raccoons are cute when they do not live in your back yard. The school behind us has a portable that backs up on our hedge, and the portable is in terrible repair. A family of raccoons moved in a few years back. Ockeghem Teen thought they were adorable but I’ve been battling them for years. They climb trees and try to drink from the hummingbird feeder (when they did this in winter they spilled the sugar water all over the plants underneath, and then it froze overnight, and all those plants had to be replaced). I’ve given up on the hummingbird feeder. They dig up my bulbs and eat my tomatoes. I’m not a fan. (The school, of course, refuses to do anything to get rid of them.)
Sorry, raccoon rant over.
I am so sorry that happened.😔
The only animals that inhabited my back yard have been birds (occasionally there’d be baby chicks that fall out of their nests and don’t make it… so sad), snakes and wasps (those hives! Had to call for professional help).
It’s even worse when they break into your attic. I’m so past thinking that raccoons are cute.
Oooh, my sympathies on that one. Thank heavens we don’t really have an attic.
Oh my.
I share your feelings about raccoons while admitting that the babies are cute. We had at least one in the garage the other night, I had little paw prints all over my windshield (the garage is more like a lean-to, so they don’t get caught inside.)
Love the raccoon hat! I’m wearing a few samples right now, will pick a real sotd after shower. Probably Neroli Outrenoir as it’s pretty warm.
Warm and humid here, I may put on something citrusy after yoga.
Day three of teas. Today I’m wearing L’Ombre Des Merveilles from one of those fantastic Hermes mini bottles.
Those bottles are indeed fantastic. I wonder when we are due a new Merveilles…
CInnamon Roll Day? Should have worn CSP Vanille Cannelle, I suppose! But I’m just as happy in SL Chypre Rouge, which is not actually a chypre but is very rouge, the smell of wine gums.
You reminded me to wear Chypre Rouge. You smell amazing.
I think I might deserve extra points this morning — I chose Nanadebary Bronze because the girlie silhouette logo reminds me of those silly mudflaps that truckers used to put on their back tires. But then you tell me it’s National Cinnamon Roll Day, and Bronze has a very prominent cinnamon roll note. It was fate!
Extra points for sure!
Lol, yes! That silhouette totally reminds me of those flaps. And now the trucker from Thelma and Louise just popped into my brain.
Oh that logo is so dumb and **yes** it’s like those mudflaps! LOL, SheriG.
LOL on the trucker mud flaps! I remember those.
Brisk morning today! We’re trying to get an early start but as usual I’m dawdling over coffee.
SOTD is SHL Taklamken from a lovely NSTer. She doesn’t post anymore but if she’s reading, Thank You a thousand times!
Hope you caught up to your plans by now Deva 🙂
A good day to eat tacos and cinnamon rolls! Both delicious foods.
Chanel Egoiste for a busy busy busy workday! So many meetings plus I’m moving apartments soon so I have lots to pack up. The perfumes are all boxed and wrapped up, so I’m working with a limited selection for the moment.
Oh gosh, that’s a lot! Good luck with the move. The part about moving that I like is going through stuff and getting rid of unwanted things, so cathartic.
My sympathies on the move. I hope never to move again.
Moving twins! I understand the limited selection situation. I hope yours goes smoothly.
You smell great!
But sorry about the impending move. Why does it seem that one’s stuff suddenly expands to 10x its size when moving?
I wore Egoiste last night and thought of you 😊
Moving is so stressful. Hope everything goes smoothly.
Not sure what SOTD will be, but probably one of my vintage D’Orsays. I am a bit irritated with USPS. One of my orders, placed over a week ago, managed to travel from CA to TX in two days, but has now been bouncing around in the system for four days, after having arrived at the distribution center 65 miles from my house. So 1500 miles = 2 days, but 65 miles = 4 days and counting.
So frustrating. I hope it arrives soon.
Yeah, I know it’s a pretty small matter in the overall scheme of things, and it was not an expensive purchase, but still. The delays and misdirections always seem to happen on this end, and mostly with incoming stuff, rather than outgoing. Packages I send out seem to get to their destinations OK, and stuff I order can get halfway across the country in a day or two, but then it takes up to a week to get it the last 65 miles to my house. The North Houston facility was the subject of an audit a couple of years ago that showed that the Houston facility had the highest overall rate of delayed mail in the country.
Oooooooof. That is not a good Number One to have. What a pain!
The D’Orsay’s are back in town!
I went with Intoxication, which is probably D’Orsay’s best known scent. I was fortunate enough to find several vintage D’Orsay minis online several years ago at reasonable prices. This is a “parfum” concentration, in a 1/8 oz. bottle that is a perfect miniature of the famous bottle, which I understand was meant to evoke an evening gown with a full, pleated skirt. It reads to me as a spicy floral, with a definite cinnamon or clove note, although neither is listed among the notes on either Fragrantica or Basenotes.
Meanwhile, the thunderstorms continue. We got several inches of rain yesterday, and it appears we can expect a few more inches today. The storms also are keeping the temps down into the 80’s, which is good. If the long-term forecast is to be believed, fall may actually be arriving after all.
I’m in Narciso edt. We had tacos last night, so a day early I guess.
Today is my dad’s birthday. He is 79 years young. Seems like we were just having his surprise 75th party, and yet so much has happened in the 4 years since then. Time is like that.
Today is also my one month into exercising regularly (again).🎉 I joined the barre studio just a couple of blocks from my house last month and so far I’ve done 20 classes! That is more cumulative workouts than I’ve probably done in the last several years combined! I am liking it so far, so I hope I can keep it up. Each class has a zoom option which is nice, I was able to workout in my hotel last weekend while traveling. My primary goal is to get in shape and my secondary goal is to shave off some weight. Well, I have not last any weight yet lol but I can definitely feel it in my body that I am using some muscles again!💪
Happy Birthday, Madtowndad! How impressive to stick to your exercise, you are very inspiring.
Thanks AnniePerfumes!
Exercise twins — I’m just starting week 5 of a running plan.
Woo hoo.🎉 I feel so much better mentally when I exercise, it’s just a matter of making myself do it.
Good for you! I’ve been having trouble getting traction with my own exercise goals — nearby gym classes would be really nice. I did barre for a while and really enjoyed it, a nice reconnection with some of my childhood ballet experience.
Thanks! Yes, it’s just a skip, hop, and jump from my house which makes it hard to come up with excuses not to go.
Happy Birthday wishes to your Dad!
Thanks Jalapeno!
Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Thanks lillyjo!
Wearing Muse from a happy swap.
Its really nice out. I had a list of inside things to do, but they can wait. Harvest time!
You smell great AnniePerfumes!
Make hay while the sun shines! ☀️
Oh my goodness, Biscuit needs that raccoon beanie! (Though, mama doesn’t need to spend that much $$). Speaking of raccoons, they appear to have thrown a *rager* on my patio sofa last night — 1000 muddy paw prints all over the cushions. Fortunately, they’re washable, and it made me laugh.
Howling warm offshore winds today and temps supposed to climb into the high eighties. I’m in Bronze Goddess because it goes so nicely with bare skin and a bit of sweat.
Yeah, Biscuit will have to wait and get a job, LOL…that is not a bargain item.
I remember I bought a cocktail shaker with some of the proceeds from my first paycheck from my first full-time job, because it just seemed like such an I’m-a-real-grown-up-now priority! 😀
That’s excellent! I know I bought margarita glasses shortly after starting full time work.
I’m going with the “mad” theme and pulled out an old stick of Crazylibellule and the Poppies Chère Louise. I forgot how much I really like this one. I miss that line — the sticks were so easy to throw in a purse or to travel with, and I thought most of the scents were well done.
Cool morning today, but supposed to warm up towards the weekend. I’ve got a couple more “crazy” perfumes that work better in warmer weather, so I should be all set!
Gosh, I wonder if they are still in business? At the moment I can’t even remember what their new name was.
I got curious and looked; I think they changed to “Soft Perfumes” at some point in the early teens, and now there’s a site for “Sabé Masson – La Maison du Soft Parfume” but nothing for sale on it. They may or may not still have a boutique in Paris, depending on how old the site is; given the number of blank pages on their site, I’m guessing they’re defunct. It refuses to let me switch to French, so I can’t see if there’s still a French site.
I did really like the concept, though. The solids stay very close to the body, but I can still smell it at dinner after putting it on after breakfast.
Aha, it was Sabé Masson. I guess they’re kaput now too.
I don’t think she was hurting for money. 🙂
I had planned to do rose scents all week, but woke up this morning and not feeling it so went back to Shalimar “Mission Impossible”. I really like this one and ended up ordering a BUB last night. Finally started to smell the caramel in it that everyone has been talking about. I still get the iris though and that’s what drew me to it in the beginning.
Weather is cooling off in the Midwest finally and we had a great rain shower yesterday. I believe fall is finally coming.
I’m taking inspiration from Robin’s Silky Underwear and wearing Silky Woods (home to silky raccoons) . The only silky wood I know is the Silky Oak, native to Australia, which isn’t a true oak and its flowers look a bit like a cross between a wattle and a bottlebrush
https://backyardbuddies.org.au/backyard-buddies/silky-oaks/
Those are gorgeous!
Oo, the southern hemisphere has sure got some incredible flowers!
Quick psa if you like Lancome products including perfume.
Holiday40 gives you forty percent off your purchase at their website. You might have to sign up for emails.
You temptress!
I like their eyelash primer – this is news I might use. Other items might fall in the basket of course…
Woke up a little bit before 7 this morning and fell back to sleep and woke up at 11. Wearing Epic today and trying to figure out this week’s CP.
You smell great, and I hope you’re feeling refreshed from all the sleep! Ockeghem Teen tried that this morning, too…we didn’t realize she’d gone back to sleep until 7 minutes before she needed to leave for school. 🙂
I’m wearing LL Iris 39 because how silly is it that LL are discontinuing this scent?! Silly and foolish.
Points, but sad points!
Trying Tobacco Honey today. 🚬 🍯 Getting lots of honey, some sesame and oud in the opening.
I’d be tempted if it wasn’t so spendy.
Was reminded of this silly-name perfume yesterday, and not only am I wearing it today, I am increasing the silliness factor by using its nickname:
Big Bellybutton
I suppose in actuality it’s a deep name (or possibly pretentious), but it makes me smile to think of telling people its (nick)name.
Perfect choice!
I’m wearing a silly name fragrance today from a line that was all silly names. Penhaligon’s created the “Portraits” collection and I am wearing The Ruthless Countess Dorothea. I don’t see this one on their website anymore, although there are other Portrait scents, so it might be discontinued.
Is The Ruthless Countess any good?
Despite the silly name, it is good. I get ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla. It’s a gourmand but it’s not sweet or heavy, and it lasts all day.
She doesn’t sound that ruthless. More like a kindly grandma!
Smelling fabulous, Robin! Lush certainly has some great scents. I wish they still had Alkmaar soap.
I’m wearing Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude, which to me is another silly-named fragrance. It is mostly skin-like on me so I get it. Just not sure about the sensuous part though.
Just got back from taking a pile of household stuff to ReStore. They took pretty much everything we had, so that was great! Strangely, they didn’t want the Christmas things. I will try taking it to seniors place close by on the next round.
Oh, that’s great that they took most everything! I’ve got some excess bathroom tile that I need to get rid of (designer ordered too much and it’s non-returnable), but it looks like ReStore here won’t even consider tile, and definitely not in a quantity that could just do an accent wall.
That’s too bad about Restore near you. Kind of shocking because maybe someone only needs “some” tile. I will consider getting things there once we are in the new place.
We had mostly kitchen things (ridiculous amount of glasses we never used), a never-used glass vegetable platter, soup crocks, some books, candles). A whole vehicle full of things. Today was a big purge!
Amazing how much can collect! Having to move out of the house to rent it during sabbaticals (or having to clear out during renos) has been a good excuse to purge every so often. That said, there’s a sabbatical coming up next year and I just don’t think I can be bothered to move everything out into storage and rent for 6 months.
Yay for getting a load of stuff out of the house!
The ReStores near me aren’t accepting *any* donations now. Have you considered Goodwill or the Salvation Army for the Xmas stuff?
Wow, I can’t imagine not accepting donations. It’s possible here that donations were taken because there were so many homes lost with the recent wildfires in the area.
We even dropped off piles of clothes at another location. It sure does feel good to clear it out. Less to move now!
I think one of the locations near me got slammed hard with donations over the past 2 or 3 years. It has a “No Household Donations Accepted” banner on its website now.
Holy cow! That’s quite telling.
You smell wonderful! Great choice for the CP – every time I wear it, I think how silly the name is. Hope your move is going well. I’ve been working on some giveaway bags lately, too.
Thank you, MB! I’m really enjoying it.
It’s a slow process but thank you. We’ve been here 20+ years so there’s lots! My hubby is a hoarder, especially with his “collectibles” but he could say that about my perfumes too.
Glad you are working on some giveaway bags. It’s a very good feeling to get that done! Are you heading to Florida this year?
We have a family wedding in January that is going to turn in to *a trip,* but I do hope to slip down to the Sunshine State this year. How about y’all?
Possibly in January we’ll go back to our old resort as our friends will be back then. My hubby’s brother is going down soon, will be there until March. All he cares about is golf!
I don’t know what Restore is. We have a few local church charity places here. Along with Goodwill and Salvation Army.
ReStore is the name of the thrift/resale/donation shops operated by Habitat for Humanity.
SOTD = Mac Velvet Teddy
I should just call this Tonka Teddy! No IG yet because …
Today is my older sister’s birthday! We celebrated at their house with Chinese food takeout. I was horrified when she said there’s no cake, so I promptly went out and got cupcakes instead! I also took home most of the leftovers as they can only eat so much. They are leaving for Scotland tomorrow.
One of my nieces is having surgery tomorrow. I don’t know how it happened but she messed it up something bad. Since this is the niece with a blood disorder that is incompatible with life (she is now in her early 30s), there’s added worry about how she will do. The surgery will require cutting into her knee and fixing some ligaments along with whatever needs to be done. Please wish her luck! Thank you.
Sending good thoughts to your niece!
Happy Birthday to your older sister! 🎉🎂🥂
And sending all positive vibes to your niece for her surgery. Please keep us posted. Hugs.
Fingers crossed for your niece, I hope the surgery goes smoothly!
Adding my good thoughts for your niece.
Happy Birthday to your sister! Glad you got some cupcakes for the occasion!
Wishing luck to your niece and Happy Birthday to your sister!
Sending vibes!
Hope the surgery goes well, that’s scary.
Not feeling silly but decidedly ready for bed. I wore the beautiful Colette (HdP) today. Good day at work, quite chilly weather, but nice: a proper autumn day.
That one is so pretty.
I’ve been following the Nobel Prize awards this week, which is not at all silly. Today my personal favorite, Chemistry, was awarded.
Another oh so glorious early fall day that feels like summer.
SOTD = commando again, except for the Korres Grecian Gardenia body butter. on my shins. I’ve been alternating between that and the Dame Gardenia.
I know you were waiting for my rose week, but I just wasn’t into it today. I will still get another one or two in yet.
Did you try the BWFs yet? Curious if you liked them or not.
Hey, wearing a perfume that you want to is far more important.
I did a small test sniff of both perfumes. One of them is much more “me” than the other one is, but I have learned to try perfumes under multiple weather conditions. So there will be more happy sniffs in the future. Thanks!
Awesome day here too!
It all changes tomorrow.
Tomorrow is supposed to still be nice here. Friday is a tossup.
For the CP, Babycat. When I first heard the name, I did not know about the YSL fabric print references. So, I thought it was some silly-girly thing being capitalized. But the notes sounded so good I looked into it and then saw the big picture of YSL’s clothing themes. I don’t love the peppery part, and it is very peppery, but the long dry down is vanilla goodness, and it lasts very well on me. I am so behind on comments due to my painting project of 7.5 feet tall metal porch posts. Once, I was jealous of houses with fancy ones with leaves and acorns or flowers. HA!!! I now have a fond appreciation of our plain scrolls. One fun aspect of the project is that our friends across the street are having a porch built. I start work when the carpenters arrive and quit when they do. Their sawing and hammering and comings and goings are motivating.
Sounds like your project is rolling right along!
Babycat sounds wonderful, especially that drydown!
Good luck with the painting!
I had a dentist appointment this morning and wore BBW Coco Paradise. I came home to a wonderful swap package and am now wearing Dune for work tonight.
I called for a furnace tune up and they are coming tomorrow. I have 2 cold fronts coming and suspect I might turn the heat on this weekend. My furnace is very old and I know they will suggest a replacement. Who else here has a super old furnace?
You smell great! All I have is baseboard heaters…
Same here. I got all excited about Nest thermostats when they first came out…then I realized I’d have to put one in every room of the house.
Sorry, but my current furnace is a little over 3 years old. The one it replaced was around 20 years old.
We do! And it’s been mostly fine but we did have a carbon monoxide problem last year.
We had one that was over 35 years old, slowly failing but still working when we replaced it. It would have gone on a couple more years, but a big problem was ours had an old-style of coolant that was getting harder to find. The new one made a noticeable and immediate improvement in the quality of the air in the house, and the bills were less. It was quite expensive, but we thought it was worth it.
I do! And every year we get nervous that it will give out but it keeps on truckin.🤞 Knock on wood!✊
