It's Monday, Greta Garbo's birthday, International Equal Pay Day and National Cheeseburger Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm using Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum to pretend it isn't a grey rainy Monday.
Reminder: 9/22 is the day before the Autumn Equinox (in the northern hemisphere, at least). Wear a fragrance that says adiós to summer, or hello to fall, or wear your favorite transitional fragrance. (If you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I have to share this Ah-mazing find from Zara. It’s called Leather Jardin – from the collection designed by Jo Malone. If you are lover of Miss Dior Originale, Estee Lauder Private Collection or any of the classic, old-school bitter-ish green chypres, you have GOT TO try this one out. It is so cheap yet it smells much more expensive. (I usually dismiss Zara’s perfumes because they just smell meh! Glad I suddenly got curious.)
I went online and I saw it still being available in the Canadian and UK site. In USA maybe you need to find in-store, but it is sooo worth the trouble.
I bought 3 bottles…
Wow, 3 bottles! Must be love.🥰
I’m intrigued! I haven’t smelled anything at Zara since my kid insisted on the Star Wars perfume there in 2015 and then occasionally insisted on wearing it, which was an assault on everyone’s noses. I had to sneak it out of her room and dispose of it finally, a year or so later.
This sounds nice.
This is one of my favorite types! My credit card is weeping….
Thank you for the tip! One mention of Miss Dior Originale and I’m a goner😋
That comparison sure gets my attention – wow!
Time to check out Zara! I’ve never sniffed their perfumes but noticed they now have 4 new scents from Olivia Giacobetti.
Giacobetti? Four of them? I’ll need to get my nose on those.
I love Olivia Giacobetti! All my perfume buttons are being pushed today!😋
I know, right? Here’s a link:
https://www.zara.com/us/en/a-perfume-by-olivia-giacobetti-discovery-set-100-ml-3-x-25-ml-p20210671.html
They are a bit tricky to find when navigating the site, I think they’re listed under the mens section. Sigh.
Oh my, might have to go have a sniff…
I have been pleasantly surprised by several of the Jo Malone perfumes for Zara. I didn’t realize Olivia Giacobetti had done some as well. I see a sniffing trip to Zara in my future.
I’m wearing vintage Dune today, it’s been a while. No CP points, it’s good all year round.
We put cameras up in my mom’s house this weekend and it’s great – one camera is right over the boxes with her medications so I can make sure she’s taking them. There are cameras in each room she uses except the bathroom. It doesn’t do away with the need for care, obviously, but it’s great for my peace of mind on my “off” hours.
By the way, Turner Classic Movies is showing Greta Garbo movies all day in honor of her birthday, if anyone is interested. I’m folding towels and watching The Painted Veil.
I love those old movies. I used to watch it all the time back before cable, so maybe paying for it now might be worth it. 🤔
The Painted Veil
I love the book and the movie.
Changed four flights today for inside Tanzania geeez
Duffel by the door backpack next to it.
A few sprays of gypsy water for the first leg of the flight
Bye for now nsters!
I hope you have a blast apsara!
Have a great time, apsara!
You smell great!
Thanks madtowngirl!
Ahhh, Dune!!
I hope the cameras help bring a little piece of mind! 🙂
*PEACE
☮️ They do, except that her caretaker called me this morning to tell me that Mom took her nighttime pills this morning 🤷♀️
Well, drat.
Argh!
That’s a great idea about the cameras.
It was her doctor’s idea. It will be great for the winter especially, I can see the snow levels on the driveway, too lol.
Dune is a great scent!
Also, the cameras will definitely help gage what your mom is doing. It is a wonderful idea.
You smell beautiful in a scent that’s perfect for the CP!
Thanks AnnE!
I think I have a fragrance for everyday this week..
SOTD for the CP is Angels Share- according to my kids “I smell like apple pie and its so good they want to eat me”
It’s so cool that your kids share in your love of perfume!
Angels share is a great fall fragrance! Have you tried?
I have tried it. Sadly I wasn’t a fan.
Lol. Cute.
Oh, I like Angel’s Share. You smell good!
I’m wearing Au Coeur du Désert from a sample that I’ve had for a while. I think it fits the CP. It seems a little soapy on my skin. I’m not sure I like it, and it sure isn’t my favorite Tauer.
Interesting, I don’t remember it being soapy but maybe it is and I’ve forgotten.
It may be my skin. I’ve noticed that there are well-reviewed fragrances that present as soapy on my skin. It could be that the rather old sample had degraded.
I should give my sample of Au Coeur du Desert a sniff soon. Assuming I can find it…
Lavishly sprayed on L’Artisan Poivre Piquant for this rainy, muggy day.
Having my second cup of coffee and a toast with pumpkin cream cheese.
Happy Monday! 🌻
Yummy, your breakfast and scent are both delicious!
Thank you, Ringthing! 😊
Yum, it will be hard for me to resist pumpkin cream cheese the next time I’m at the store!
Succumb to temptation! 😀
Never tried pumpkin cream cheese. Maybe I should?
I find it very tasty. If I remember well, Deva mentioned last year that she also liked it. We both got it from Trader Joe’s.
I went through a tub of Philly pumpkin cream cheese alarmingly quickly! 😋
A grey rainy Monday here too. I’m in Spiritueuse Double Vanille.
Looking for a good, sweet vanilla lotion that’s not B&BW Warm Sugar Vanilla. Any recommendations?
*listens in*
Pacifica Island Vanilla. Super affordable too.
I have only seen their perfumes, not lotions, but will check around.
Yves Rocher used to have a great one. I just checked their website and this one came up:
https://www.yvesrocherusa.com/body-and-bath/body-care/body-lotion-and-body-oil/bourbon-vanilla-escape-body-lotion/p/40419
Will definitely go have a look for that one, I have the YR orange blossom and the hammam rose which are both very nice.
Korres used to have a Vanilla body lotion/body milk. Dunno if that is still the case.
Their Jasmine is really nice, will check for it.
I am not seeing the Jasmine on Korres’ website right now. Things come and go.
Have you tried Lush Sympathy for the Skin? It smells like vanilla ice cream to me. It is rather thick though.
Thanks, I will look for it.
Serge Lutens’ Fille de Berlin, for the win, on a crisp cool fall day. Hurricane over with – lost one branch off a tree, some brown outs but no black outs, and feeling pretty thankful. After Fiona I wasn’t looking forward to this but it was ok. I’m just a wimp now 🙂
Glad everything is ok, your sotd is fabulous 🌹
Thank you, Ringthing!
Love your fragrance today💕
Kris, thank you – I love this scent, and sometimes wonder why I don’t wear it more often. Love the bottle with the drawing of a woman under a lamp post.
You smell wonderful – I am glad you are safe and sound! I found this interesting in regard to LFdB, in case you did not already know about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lili_Marleen
Glad you’re okay!
Thank you, Cazabon-really a bit scared now, after Fiona.
Glad that you made it through without much damage!
I remember feeling nervous after Superstorm Sandy came blasting thru New Jersey. So I understand where you are coming from.
Good news that you didn’t see much damage in your area!
Not really trying for the week but I settled on Molinard Habanita and it does have a sort of autumnal feel to it.
The hurricane turned out to be kind of a nothing, at least where I am: some rain, some strong wind, never at the same time, and when it was over, you could hardly tell anything had even happened. At least no trees came down. A friend and his wife flew to Halifax on Thursday for a commemorative event scheduled for Saturday, but it ended up getting cancelled due to power outages — and they lost the power at their hotel, too, so the whole thing was a bust. Or an adventure, as he put it.
I’m glad you’re ok, Pyramus. Was a bit stressful – well, I got stressed over nothing 🙂
Glad to hear that Lee turned out to be a big nothingburger for you.
I’m in Molecule 01. Sunny and beautiful here.🌞 Looking forward to a lunchtime walk.
I know I’ve told this story before, but when I was little whenever I’d put on my grammas sunglasses she would would tell me “oh you look just like Greta Garbo!” I had no idea who that was but I knew I was getting a real compliment.
Fingers crossed today for my older daughter who has a zoom interview for a research position in the neurology department at the university where she’s been admitted to grad school.🤞🤓
Good luck to you daughter! 🍀
I’ll cross my fingers for her too! Cute story about the sunglasses, and how you knew it was something glamorous without quite knowing what.
How sweet 😎
Good luck to your daughter!
I always had my hair in my eye’s when I was young. My relatives would tell me I looked like Veronica Lake. ( I wish, lol)
That’s not a bad compliment! Better than Shirley Temple. 😒
Best of luck to your older daughter! 🍀🍀🍀
That was such a sweet story about your Grandmother and her sunglasses. 😎🥰
Good luck to your daughter!
Good luck!!
SOTD is Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir. It is sunny and summery, but there are smoky notes that create some fall vibes.
I love your SOTD, Glannys 🙂 Hope things are going ok for you and your family.
Thanks!
We are doing fairly well. There are some occasional air alerts, but only a few scary nights.
Glad to hear the hurricane is over for you!
That is a great scent. Should find my sample..
It rained here this morning and I was so happy to see it that I skipped fall, perfumewise, and went straight to winter in Memoirs of a Trespasser. I’ll do better as the week goes on. 😆
MoaT is fall to me, it reminds me of fall leaves burning and campfires. Did you see that IA has this in a body oil now? I want some for the chilly weather.
True — it can skew autumn or winter. The smokiness always makes me think of sipping scotch while lounging in a leather chair in front of the fireplace. A wintertime image for me, but I can see it in fall too. And I hadn’t heard about the body oil — now lemming right along with you.
Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa, because I pulled out my LI sample set over the weekend and I’m revisiting some favorites. Champagne and roses, with a woody base.
Yum!
It’s a sunny but blustery morning here; definitely feeling like fall at 14C. Dzing! felt right for the CP this morning. Even the circus concept works a bit for me — the last time we went to the circus was in the fall in Germany, when a travelling circus set up near our house.
Dzing! is such a whimsical gem, you smell wonderful.
It is a rainy day here too, compliments of the remnants of Hurricane Lee off the coast somewhere.
National Cheezeburger Day will be celebrated at my workplace today; I think guests can get a burger, fries, and drink for a low price all day today. There’s gonna be a lot of those type of deals today.
I am thinking of using my L’Envol sample today. I know it’s a men’s fragrance, but a lot of the reviews on Fragrantica have stated that it could well be unisex. So, i may give it a shot.
Happy Monday!
I thought L’Envol was very much a unisex scent, fwiw.
I second Jalapeno. L’Envol is quite unisex on me too.
I don’t think it’s really a transitional fragrance, but I am in Dame Musc Neutre. It is close to the skin so I think it can be worn about any time or place.
Agreed on your sotd.
I got to work at 6 am today for the dreaded inventory. We have a new way to punch in now, using our phones. I am pretty sure I already screwed it up.
My sotd is TBS White Musk Smokey Rose. My I am too tired to pick a perfume, perfume.
Hope you get some well deserved rest soon, lillyjo!
I remember doing inventory when I worked retail. This was back in the 80’s so I’m sure things have improved so the process isn’t quite as tedious. I remember absolutely HATING it. Hating it to the point I became the definition of surly. Look up “surly” on inventory days, and there a black and white mug shot of me at my surliest! 😃 I hope it’s easier these days and goes much quicker!
I used to work in a library. The worst job was shelf reading to make sure that the books are on the shelf in the proper Dewey Decimal sequence. Oy vay.
Uff, the dreaded Shelf Reading…
Bleurgh, inventory. I hated it when I worked retail back in the day.
I hope you sleep well tonight. I remember working at a fabric store in high school and doing inventory. We counted every fold of every bolt of fabric. Gaaah.
Praline in Maple today for cloudy skies…we had cloudy weather all weekend in San Diego and even some light rain in the mornings due to heavy clouds…just divine. 🥰☁️
I think I will join you in Praline once my SDV burns off. We’re having the same weather up here in Montréal today.
Hi all! I was away (and fragrance free) for a week on a camping trip, followed by a week that was fragrance free by choice as a lot of emotionally challenging things went down and I didn’t want any scent-associations to inadvertently form. Also, I find that when the going gets particularly tough, I often don’t want to wear perfume simply because it feels too much — like playing loud music when you’re sleepy. But, firmly putting myself back in action today with Cuir de Russie, proper attention to my work, and a backless linen jumpsuit. Grrrr, look out, world.
Hope things improve for you. I do the same when there’s too much going on internally – can’t take any more stimulation.
Are you the one who said that during lock down you didn’t have the bandwidth for perfume? I have used the bandwidth metaphor several times, love it.
Yes, that was me. 🙂
Cuir de Russie means you are coming back with a vengeance. Welcome, and I hope things look up and up.
Glad you are back to enjoying some perfume.
Welcome back! Glad to hear that you are enjoying perfume again.
I’m wearing Shalimar MT today. May not be CP approved, but it works for me. So far, I have really enjoyed both of these flankers (the other being MVP of course). I consider the nominal price (compared to other vanilla centric perfumes out there) money well spent.
I planned on a nice hike this morning but got up too late. It gets very hot by 11am and I didn’t want to drag doggo out in that kind of heat. Instead, we did a quick tour of the campground, which basically included me looking over all the other rigs here. So far, very happy with my choice of camper and truck because I can go anywhere and don’t have to drag along a tow behind. The cons are I have to pack things up before I head out. Every. Single. Time. 😅 But, that makes for an overall clean and tidy camper!
Happy Monday! Hope all the working M-F folks have an uneventful and speedy workday.
Are you doing a contract still? Or are you taking time off now?
The contract is done. I’m going to be just wandering the west, with the destination somewhere in NM as I can camp at their many state parks for free since I bought an annual pass back in May. Hope to stay a week or two at several of the parks across the state over the next couple of months. Hope your inventory flies by!
Deva I know you worked so hard to get this time off. I hope it is relaxing and also exciting ( the good exciting!)
Oh lovely, so glad to hear you are done working for now Deva! And in such a pretty place.
My choice of perfume will be somewhat limited, even though I travel with a surprising amount of fragrance. Today’s scent is MPG Ambre Précieux Ultime, which is just a great amber.
Yesterday was hot and sunny so I did a roundabout walk to Evian. Today however, it’s been raining buckets, which created a great occasion to visit the Fondation Gianadda in Martigny. I had a great time, particularly in the sculpture garden and drove back to see crisp blue skies above Lake Geneva. I must have seen that view hundreds of times but it’s just never quite the same and stunningly beautiful.
That all sounds so wonderful!
L’Heure Bleu EdP. It is finally getting a bit cooler, the air turned a bit softer over the weekend. This is hitting the right spot for the turn.
It is cooler here too…am in a sweater at the moment.
I’m wearing a sample of Eyes Closed today. Cinnamon bomb that is very appropriate for Fall!
Ooo that sounds good!
I have a sample of that one! Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow.
Springing is springing here. It’s windy, but much less so than the wild weather over the weekend, and there’s sunshine and blue sky. I’m wearing Patou’s 1000.
You smell great, and very classy!
Yay for all of that!
I’m in Angel Muse. I find it a transitional scent as long as I don’t wear too much. The color reminds me of fallen leaves and the brown sugar that seems to be an ingredient in every fall sweets recipe.
Love Angel Muse, you smell great foxbins!
I’m enjoying reading everyone’s choices and it’s giving me ideas to pull out bottles that don’t get enough luv. My fall transitional scent is Yves Rocher Folie de Saisons Delire d’Automne (whew, that’s a mouthful) which is a light mix of autumnal gourmandy spices, incense, woods, resins, & hovering over it slight smoky vanilla. It smells like a much more $$ perfume, like Amber Sultan’s zestier younger gourmand sister. It was one of 4 that came out together (4 seasons) and I’m eager to try them all, especially the winter one, but I believe they’re d/c.
That sounds nice! Will look for it when I go to check out their bourbon vanilla lotion.
I’m doing a goodbye to summer perfume today. Over the weekend, I spotted and sniffed a single late-blooming magnolia grandiflora. So I’m in Jurassic Flower by Fūm today since I didn’t wear it all summer. It’s described as a coastal magnolia soliflore and that’s spot on. It’s a lovely perfume, and I’m happy to have a small bottle.
Lucky you, to find that late blooming magnolia. I missed the ones in my area this summer.
Oh, that’s really a shame. I did get to enjoy them blooming a couple months ago, but it always feels fleeting.
I’m wearing Harvest Mouse from a tiny decant. In spite of sweet scents not being my thing, I’m liking this one quite a bit. Many of my favorite notes (hay, chamomile, banzoin), and the beer note listed comes across more like malt , which makes sense.
It feels like summer at first, then morphing into autumn. I see a travel size in my future! Or perhaps a FB…I have a thing about cute mice, and that bottle art is adorable. 🐭🩶
The zoologist bottles are all so tempting!
Yes, they are. Perfect marketing strategy.
I like HM, you described it perfectly. It smells like malt to me too.
Because who wants to smell like beer?
(Original) Stella for me today, another busy Monday. I took my first-year students on a field trip to the research orchard at our local ag station for a tour with the curator. It was terrific (including tasting a LOT of interesting apples — it is a USDA orchard so we were invited to sample at will). And then the rain that was supposed to start two hours AFTER our return to campus rolled in with a vengeance. I got the students back mostly dry, but got soaked through, myself, when dropping off the campus van. Had to run home and change before an important afternoon meeting! (I’d brought dress shoes with me, but truly did not think I would need a full change of clothes.)
Toothpaste comment — I know there are Marvis fans here: I bought a tube of Marvis Anise-Mint in Australia and just tried it last week. I love it! Good thing, because the shop had only the full size of that flavor. I have not loved other flavors from this brand but this one is just right for me. (And if auto-correct changes “Marvis” to “Marcus” again, I give up.)
I love the Cinnamon and also the Liquorice flavored Marvis. Was intrigued to try the Anise but the local stockist was out.Wil try asap!
I love the Whitening as well as the Classic Strong Mint.
I have never tried Marvis toothpaste..am I missing out?
I guess it depends? I loathe the flavor of most “normal” toothpastes. I have to continue with Sensodyne at least once a day, but they keep changing flavors (or our suppliers keep running out) and the kind we have now is one I really dislike. Marvis is fun, it does have fluoride, and it seems that there is a flavor to suit most every NSTer. It is a splurge for me but a nice souvenir! (In the US I’ve had it as part of the toiletries in boutique hotels; I suspect it is not hard to find for sale in NYC.)
Aren’t those cool? I love the colors, the design, the old school metal tube.
Happy Monday!
SOTD!
D’Orsay Sur tes levres E.Q(thelast batch of releases have all these intricate long french names!)
It’s by Dominique Ropion so of course I was intrigued!
Very early Spring appropriate with Iris,Jasmine and a very soft Jasmine note.Nice.
🤗✌🏻🌹
I hate the names, they are too hard to remember! But I do love jasmine.
It’s been raining off and on here today. Gloomy, cloudy skies as a result. It feels like 1,000,000% humidity outside.
But! We hit the farmers market and farm stand yesterday before the weather turned and picked up some of the most delicious white nectarines. They taste of summer sun and happy. I should probably have one right now.
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EdT, from the Sample Stash. Can’t argue with The Hand!
And I thunked a tube of Korres Guava Body Butter this morning. Trying to decide if I open up another tube of Guava, or try the Gardenia Body Butter.
You and your lotions – I’m glad you enjoy them.
You smell great in 31 RC! In the realm of cleaning out, I have found a few forgotten perfumes of all sizes! I am thinking of doing a 100 days of samples only wearing but that would cramp my style too much.
I figure those scented lotions are a form of self care.
Speaking of 100 days, I got am email recently from a business that said “100 Days Until Xmas!” I was NOT amused.
SIGH. “AN email”, not “am email”.
Hah! I also think there was a hailstorm today in these here parts. I haven’t gone upstairs to check if any windows were broken…
Yikes! No hail here, just late summer gloom.
Hail!? Oof. I guess I lucked out with just heavy rain all day, and then a beautiful rainbow this evening.
You smell great. 🙂
Thank you!
Get the Gardenia! I bet it’s fabulous!
Oh, I have the Gardenia Body Butter/lotion already. It was part of a limited edition set that I got either last year or the year before last. It’s a question of which one do I open now.
Wearing Diptyque L’Eau Trois – incense seems just right for a transition.
YES to incense!
SOTD = Dior Dune EDT
Vintage…I was inspired by ringthing’s wearing of it. I happen to think though that Dune is really good year round!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CxWVWqDRsVu/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I’ve joined the ranks of those now waiting for Shalimar Iris, hopefully not canceled because they’ve done that before with one of the flankers. The thought of more caramel forward is right up my alley.
I hope you get the Shalimar Iris, too.
Got mine today. I can confirm it’s caramel forward throughout.
Oh good I was hoping you would get it! Apparently the whole world is getting caramel except for me. I blame my sinuses.
I also received mine today. A quick spritz to confirm the carmel goodness!
Mitsouko EdP, which is a Fall scent to me. I don’t wear this often enough. I’m finding that I’m drawn to what I consider classics. I’m usually more floral greens, but I’m seeking a bit more depth in scents.
Thank you for all the encouragement and condolences last week. My grandmother’s services were exactly what she would have wanted.
I wore providence perfume rose boheme today, which is lovely on its own, but I was really craving tauer’s Une rose Chypre, my sample of which is long gone. Regardless, both make good season straddlers.
I am sorry about your grandmother. I hope her services provided some comfort.
So happy that the services went well. Plus, you smelled lovely.
I’m back in Shalimar Millesime Iris today on one arm and Prada Candy on the other for a proper comparison. I get the powdery caramel notes from both, but SMI definitely has Shalimar DNA that gives it a deeper, fuller vibe than Candy.
Today’s tea was Italian Earl Grey, which I wish had with me last week for the CP. I think it works for this week too though, because it has rosemary in it and I think of rosemary as a summer-to-fall herb.
We had a gorgeous rainbow this evening after a day of heavy raining. I am so glad I happened to be looking out the right window at the right time to see it. The office window where I spent most of the day faces the opposite direction and I could have easily missed it.
Your Italian Earl Grey tea sounds delish!
