It's Teapot Tuesday, but we're doing coffee because Italy. It's also National Chocolate Milkshake Day and the National Day of Encouragement. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm participating only by drinking an iced coffee...I'm still at the beach, still commando.
Reminder: on 9/15, we're off to Italy! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Italy, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Italy, or that features an Italian ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I am enjoying powdery elegance of Goutal Heure Exquise and getting CP points for an Italian ingredient. Its main note is florentine iris: “It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions almost worldwide and is a rhizomatous perennial from southern Europe, mainly Italy (including the city of Florence) and France. ” (Wikipedia)
Great choice, and interesting info about Florentine iris.
Oh you smell absolutely lovely! Heure Exquise is one of my favourite Goutals!
Heure Exquise is gorgeous!
Hello.
Sotd is Oud Ispahan. Weather cooled down a bit so I immediately took advantage and went for something heavier. One of the best from the Dior Privee line imo.
I will copy Robin and make myself an iced coffee, but Italians might gasp as it will be decaf.
Weather cooled off here finally this evening….was lovely to be outside in the breeze.
Another dreary, humid, rain-soaked day, but I’m back home after my errands, luxuriating in vintage Rochas Byzance, which opens as bright-green and shimmery as a handful of peridots. I fell for it hopelessly when it was launched, and have never gotten tired of it. It’s magical.
How seductively described…
I have been a fan of Byzance since it launched as well. You smell fantastic.
Wearing Clair de Musc.
I have to take my mother to the dentist today, always an ordeal as her dentist office doesn’t have a handicap entrance that’s up to code – they store their trash cans on the ramp and there’s a step up into the door (mom uses a walker.) Plus the ramp is narrow and has no railing so it’s hard for me to maneuver. Sorry for the rant but honestly, as much money as they make, their office needs improvements. I wish the dentists had to try out that ramp.
The filling that came out for mom is real gold, that’s what was used back in olden times. She has it carefully stored in her jewelry box.
My father lived a state that you basically had to hire a lawyer to get any handicap enforcement in. It was terrible and we did not have the money. I am glad you were there to help your mom.
Hmm, that sounds like a reportable situation. I believe they are required to be up to code.
I can understand your frustration.
As everyone above commented, there are laws about complying with ADA. I was always concerned that if we complained avec or sans lawyers, the medical professional may drop its services (although there are strict rules about this too).
I would anonymously report them to your state health services dept.
I’m really surprised they haven’t failed building inspections.
Too bad someone can’t do a news expose on that dangerous ramp. Nothing like a little public embarrassment to make a business change their ways.
I’m taking CP points in Tabac, from the Italian line La Via Del Profumo, and drinking my customary café latte. Our coffee machine is on her last legs, poor thing, and we recently tried (and rejected) a super-automatic machine that steams the milk for you and everything. It was okay, but we prefer a different style and the super-automaticness just didn’t measure up. Plus it leaked water somewhere in its innards. Soooooo, we hauled our venerable old dear back out, and she is producing our preferred product … but not for long, I’m afraid. I’m on a quest for a replacement that doesn’t require us to dip into our retirement savings. Cha-ching. 💰
Oops. Somehow my comment landed below.
House twins!
Hi!
After a dreary day yesterday, the sun is back out today.🌞
I’m in Narciso black cube. Not as much of a love as white cube, but somehow easier to wear. For me anyway. Am I right that this whole cube line has been discontinued?
Speaking of sun, I used the very last of my current sunscreen this morning- DRMTLGY’s daydream, which came in a jar with one of those press dispensers on the top. Such a brilliant design. I may just transfer my new sunscreen back into that jar.
Sophisticated sunscreen delivery methods are more helpful that you’d think! Ockeghem Teen is something of a connaisseur of them, especially after we found rollerball sunscreen bottles in Germany. Of course, the problem is, I’ve only ever seen them in Germany, and they weren’t so easy to find on our last trip. (We always stock up on sunscreen when we’re over there, anyway, since the EU’s been better about ensuring ingredients are safe — but if I had to find it here there’d be much complaint about squirting or spraying!)
Have you tried the Nivea roll-on in the kids range, it’s spf 50 and very good, and easy to find on Amazon if you can’t get it locally.
https://www.nivea.com.au/products/kids-protect-and-play-caring-roll-on-spf50-40058083797120031.html
I like stick applications myself as there is less ‘drag’ on my skin
https://www.byrdie.com/best-sunscreen-sticks-7483571
Yup. The Nivea is one of the bottles we bought in Germany (we also bought the DM house brand). They don’t have it on Amazon.ca, sadly, but I did just find it on Amazon.com, and it looks like it may be close to the EU formula, rather than including all the stuff that’s allowed in the U.S. Thanks for the tip!
I think they did discontinue the line.
Yeah, I have a BUB of White Cube because it’s definitely gone, but not sure about the whole line.
Sunny skies here today, too!
Good luck on your quest! Yeah, those machines can get really pricey.
Sorry everyone! Meant for SheriG.
Thanks! I’ve identified a prospect, and now all that remains is to convince Mr. G, who is notoriously frugal.
Not following any plan, I grabbed my now decade and half old Chanel Cuir de Russie because I am down. Had to put my beautiful bernese mountain dog to sleep due to aggressive cancer. Every room I walk into is empty etc… so I go for the comfort scent for me.
Hugs! So sorry to hear about your pup. Bernese mountain dogs are so beautiful, and that’s a huge hole to fill in every room.
Sorry for your loss, shellyw! Sending you comforting hugs.
So sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending you a few more hugs.
Oh no, how sad. I’m so sorry. That type of dog is really beautiful. And I now what you mean by noticing emptiness everywhere. I hope your perfume choice will help.
I am so sorry for your loss, shellyw. It feels like we never have enough time with them. Sending you hugs, if you’d like them.
My condolences, that’s so hard.
I am so sorry, Shellyw. Sending comforting hugs and thoughts.
Losing a beloved dog is tough!
I’m so sorry for the loss of your beautiful dog, shelleyw. I know how empty the house seems afterwards. Hugs for you! I hope that CdR is of some comfort to you.
I am so sorry about your dog, and the awful silence of its absence. Big hug to you for performing such a kind act for it.
That’s awful, I’m so sorry! Losing pets is so hard.
I’m sorry to read about your dog, it’s hard losing a beloved pet.
My condolences, shellyw. It’s always so hard to lose a beloved pet.
I am so sorry for your loss. Big hugs to you.
So very sorry to hear about your canine companion. My sympathies. It really hurts when you have to say that Final Goodbye.
I know that “empty room” feeling well. Hugs.
Oh, that’s rough. I am so sorry for your loss.
I’m in Cafe Rose, which after two hours has no discernable rose. It has devolved into a sort of generic floral scent.
Continuing Italian perfumes I’m in Ortega Ambre Nera. The air is turning to fall here in Minneapolis, and I’m in the mood for cozy. Amber always hits that feeling for me.
and I am in their hand cream! Rather excited, as I am rarely a mid-week scent twin
I kind of went overboard in the shop in Florence. Body lotion, bath oil (2 scents), a rollerball of perfume for travel, 2 soaps and I had to run out of the shop before I bought a silk shawl with their signature leopard design! 😂
I am have been lemming for those silk leopard shawls. I am on their mailing list..
sigh, for me it’s their kaftans
Taking inspiration from Sheri G and today’s picture, I raided my spouse’s perfumes for La Via Del Profumo Milano Caffe, which is adding some warmth to a cool, dreary morning.
I ❤️ being inspirational!
Creed Royal Mayfair
Italian perfume house and Italian ingredient. Iris Nobile by Acqua di Parma. Counting the days till my vacation.
You smell beautiful.
Not long until your holiday! Hang in there.
Wearing 10 Corso Como for the CP.
Happy Tuesday! ☕
You smell great!
Thank you, Vee!
Prada Infusion d’Iris for the CP
Yesterdays doctors appointment was a complete bust. They were able to perform this small outpatient procedure I needed and so now I need to have it done in the OR. Now it’s a waiting game of referrals and consults..etc etc.
On a brighter side I had a fabulous time this morning at the library volunteering and forgetting my health woes.
Sorry about your failed to happen procedure. What a drag. Glad the library helps. Must be such a special place to work.
Yes, this morning with met with our newest curator of Islamic/middle eastern holdings to go over some of her new acquisitions to the library. The most interesting is she purchased a Chinese Quran
Ooooh, fun!
What a bummer about your delayed procedure.
Prada, of course! Thanks for the idea. 😉
Will your procedure stay the same, or will it be more complicated due to being in OR? Good luck, whatever happens.
Wearing Sticky Fingers today, because I’ve been craving patchouli and Francesca Bianchi is Italian.
Sticky Fingers is a wonderful patchouli! I learned about it from the NST gang.
I was thinking of this too! You smell wonderful.
It was a Sticky Fingers sample from you that turned into a full bottle for me!
Wearing Prada Candy Night.
I am doing some clearing and found a sample of this!
It’s a pretty fun scent! Sadly, my decant is almost finished; not sure if I need any more however since it doesn’t last too long on me.
Love this one! Perfect for fall.
Does it last on you? On me it burned off fairly quickly (with 4 sprays from a decant). I like it but think I’m still searching for the perfect chocolate fragrance.
Don’t really hear much about the Prada Candy family anymore.
That’s so true!
My daily routine is all up in the air while I’m staying at my friend’s place, so I keep forgetting to post. I’m claiming a retroactive CP point for last week because I’m in D.S. & Durga’s D.S. today which is an oud+spice bomb, including saffron. It is supposed to have rose, gardenia, and frangipani in there as well but I can’t tease out those notes.
Today’s tea is Harney & Sons Williamsburg Ginger Cake, which is becoming a new favorite.
Both your perfume and tea sound lovely. What a nice break.
Harney & Sons has so many great sounding teas!
Wearing La Dolce Vita for partial CP. So stylish…the movie, and I’m going to try and match perfumes to my favourite Italian movies.
I have to take our old dunger of a station wagon in for its warrant of fitness. It’s 25 years old and has become a nature reserve for every spider, lichen, moss and now grain of pollen in the neighbourhood. The seats have lost their bounce and spring , and it’s uncomfortable. But it keeps on chugging along, and my husband is deeply attached to it despite the fact he rarely drives and bikes everywhere. The car is worth $1500 and every year we must spend about $2000 on registration, warrants, insurance and repairs. Drives me nuts. But I will walk home through the gardens …still no leaves on the trees but everything is beautiful.
Ha. I once had a Volvo station wagon that went on forever. I purchased it from an acquaintance when it was already venarable and when I parted ways with it, it was at 260K & counting. It may still be out there somewhere… I miss that car. It got about 11 mpg.
Those old long, boxy Volvo SWs are beautiful. My art teacher had a dark green one and she was very cool. Ours has 300 000 kms and a rather sour and cranky attitude ( but a heart of gold, deep down) .
mine was called The Good Good Car and I’m convinced it kept going because most days I gave it a friendly pat and said “good good car” encouragingly to it.
I had an old Honda Civic that was my university graduation present, one of those mid-’90s bright green cars (“Aztec Green”, a colour name I imagine is well out of fashion though the colour itself seems to be coming back) and it had over 300k miles (~483k km) on it when we sold it. It was hard to part with it — so many memories, plus it kept on chugging along (until it didn’t, when we moved from the East to the West Coast and the bottom and the engine block dropped out of it due to all that salt in the East, but we repaired it and moved on).
My family had a wonderful boxy 1978 Volvo sedan that we bought in Germany and brought home with us. Fond memories of Rosy Red, but no idea how long she lasted because we sold her soon after getting home because the nearest Volvo dealer was 2 hours away and she kept having issues.
Is a “dunger” the same thing as what Americans call a “beater”?
Today is my day off this week, so I slept in really late and am sampling Lubin Akkad on my arms. Mmm, spicy! Am trying to use up samples. Will try another after my shower.
It’s a gorgeous day today, after a huge amount of rain yesterday (which we needed!) 70 degrees, sunny, with that September golden glow and blue skies.
The light definitely changes in September.
Claiming CP points with Fiore dell Onda by the italian brand Erbolario, its a bit like a watered down version of Acqua di Sale by Profumum. Thankfully the longevity of the Erbolario is much shorter, so it does not get on my nerves. It was also cheap and a holiday souvenir i bought two years ago in Scansano, Tuscany
I’ve been craving ambers and vanillas recently.. in the heat of late New York City summer.
I have on Bengal Rouge, pretty sure I got my sample from a lovely NSTer but cannot remember who! Whoever it is, you know me well because it’s such a gorgeous resinous amber perfume that I am enjoying.
On my other arm I have Shalimar MVP. I recently caved and bought a full bottle secondhand because I couldn’t stop thinking about it… so so so good in the heat!
I have worn both the OG Angel and the OG Opium in summer’s heat. And they smelled great! Not recently, though.
good stuff!! bet you smelled wonderful those times 🙂
I’m going with the perfume name rather than the house, and I’m wearing AG’s Ninfeo Mio.
I received two perfumes for my b-day a bit ago. They were blind buys by the Mr. He has asked me not to wear them when he is around. 😂
Sorry, Ilio, he really dislikes you.
🤣🤣🤣
I might spray 8 when I’m fiesty!
Well I think you smell great!
Thanks!
Yay for Birthday perfumes, even with the instructions not to wear them around the Mr!
Yay is right! I don’t listen to direction, well. 😂
Well, bless him for giving you gifts that YOU would like, even if he doesn’t. 😂
(This is linked to my response to Calypso below…this is how you know he’s a keeper!)
Absolutely. Now, I need to buy a perfume for me to where around him. 😂
What a nice Mr. you have!
Definitely. He knows Fragrantica, 😊. How could I not love the guy?
Wow! 🤩 It must be nice to talk about fragrance with your hubs.
Happy belated birthday! Are you also a Virgo?
Thanks, Gail! No, a western Leo!
I’m wearing Un Bois Vanille this morning.
SotD is Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano V: Lauro. (Sample courtesy of a very kind NST swapper.) I really like this one. So of course it is not only discontinued but pretty much impossible to find.
Wearing Tonka Imperiale today, because I am behind and was unaware of the Italian theme. Will try again tomorrow. 🙂
I am a mixed bag today. On the one hand, literally, I am sporting the juicy and CP-compliant Acqua di Parma Bergamotto di Calabria. It’s such a fresh citrusy smell that carries a whiff of a bitter note that makes it distinctive. Sadly, it doesn’t last very long on me.
On the other hand, the right, I have sprayed luxuriously (and up my arm and chest too!) my newest acquisition, Arquiste Indigo Smoke. This is to die for. I sampled it when Oakland Fresca was here earlier in the summer and we went sniffing with Nancyleandros too. But they were out of bottles and yesterday I went to pick one up. The SA told me he also really likes Arquiste Beau and I tried some of it yesterday and enjoyed that one a lot too. However, Indigo Smoke has prodigious lasting power. It’s a tea fragrance with, supposedly, Lapsang Souchong tea and some kind of indigo-pine smoke. (There’s a story attached to it.) I get some kind of sweet note and, luckily, NONE of that tea because when I’ve tried it I just hated it. (I used to have a friend- who always gives me gifts of things I couldn’t stand, like smoked oysters and Lapsang Souchong tea and frilly little ceramic figurines. Note the past tense.) I also get something sweet in it and nothing in the ingredients looks sweet at all. It’s a spicy sweet. Carrot seeds are in the ingredient list–could that be what it is? Imho, it’s what really MAKES this fragrance. Mmm.
We are all laughing here in Houston with our little jokes about enjoying the 94 degree temperatures–“Oh, it’s so nice today! It feels like fall!”
That should be Arquiste PEAU and not BEAU. Autocorrect.
That Arquiste sounds incredible. I’m putting it on my list. I think carrot seed can smell sweet, a bit like iris or violet …based on smelling carrot seed oil. A perfect “ fall” scent by the sounds of it!
Hi Calypso, do you know how Arquiste Indigo Smoke compares to Naomi Goodsir Bois d’Ascèse or Akro Smoke? I love smoke fragrances♨️❤️
And my ears perk up when I hear “prodigious lasting power”
I’m sorry but I’ve never smelled that one.
Lapsang Souchong tea is definitely not for everyone. I only drink it when I am sick, usually with a shot of whiskey in it.
I had a “friend” like that before, too. (“Friend” in the romantic sense, the German sense of saying “I had a friend.”) And that person is very definitely past tense, despite struggling for many, MANY painful years (of continued gifts that missed the mark wildly) to stay around.
I love Indigo Smoke, and I wish I could get it to last a long time in me! On my FB wishlist it stays, though. Must have enough to reapply, don’t you know.
Ooooh, I like the watercolor!
SOTD = MFK Grand Soir
I could never figure which way to insert the refill but hey, it’s the juice that counts!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CxGyGisx59q/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
You smell wonderful!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Your SOTD sounds fabulous!
Thanks, jalapeño!
A bit of good news today: Teflon kitty is back on her normal diet. I started giving her kibble late Sunday night. She would probably prefer that I keep exclusively feeding her the wet food, but sorry cat. Not gonna happen. And the spots of her front legs have almost completely healed up from the mystery rash.
So she’s had a bit of sour cream as a Very Special Treat to celebrate.
SOTD = commando, except for Dame Gardenia body butter on my shins.
Yay Teflon Kitty! I love sour cream too.
Thanks lillyjo! Heh, you and Teflon kitty are sour cream twins, LOL!
But I will be the first to admit that sour cream is an essential topping for a bowl of chili… 🥣😋
Oh, so happy for Teflon Kitty! Mine would actually prefer her dry food to most wet, but I think she’s maybe weird.
Thank you!
That is a little unusual your cat prefers her dry food. But there are some rather gross wet cat foods out there. I’ve gagged opening up a few of them in the past.
So happy to know Teflon is feeling better! So funny, too: I made a special trip to the Co-op grocery today to get my favorite Nancy’s probiotic sour cream! It’s a special treat for me. =^v^=
Thanks!
I did not know that probiotic sour cream was A Thing!
Aww, that’s great news about Teflon kitty, and so adorable that she loves sour cream.
Teflon loves ANYTHING dairy: sour cream, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream!
Glad Teflon kitteh is doing much better!
Yeah, me too. Those long lasting ear drops have made a big difference in her demeanor.
That’s excellent news!
Thank you AnnE!
That’s such great news about Teflon kitty! Glad she’s feeling so much better.
Thanks Gail! I knew she was feeling better when she started pestering me to play “fetch” again.
Hooray for Teflon! So glad she’s feeling better.
I’m so glad Teflon kitty is feeling better. Be careful going forward that she doesn’t feign illness to get more Very Special Treats😋
Big hugs Jalapeno. I’m sorry you have been going through so much.
My official sotd is Mugler Aura, which smells great to me. Unfortunately I stopped at Sephora and tried the new Libre Platine.. or something. I had to scrub it off! It has too much lavender for me. I can still smell it. I never learn.
Your enthusiasm for trying new perfumes always makes me smile.
I can’t help myself. When I see a new bottle I am like a kid in the candy store!
Your enthusiasm for trying new perfumes always makes me smile.
Only on blotters for me. Also, I have to find the best spot to spray because I’ve had occasion to be hit by blowback due to the ventilation.
SotD and scent of yesterday is/was a very fun thrifting find, Charles of the Ritz Forever Krystle. It’s a great drug store musk, with both sweet and lightly woody-type musks, with some vanilla and floral notes. Think Kiehl’s, Epris, Ciara, and/or Bal a Versailles. The note list on Fragrantica does not look accurate to me, and a couple of the reviews there mentioned that too. I don’t know if I’m influenced by the Dynasty connection (I never watched that show), but this is one of those perfumes that I think smells wonderful on me and on a blotter, but it still seems like someone else’s perfume!
Great find! I didn’t know it was a Charles of the Ritz. Pretty cool.
Had to look it up, as I’ve never smelled it before. The bottle looks similar to White Shoulders.
Charles of the Ritz had some great scents back in the day!
I have that one, too. I haven’t smelled it in a while.
Robin, I hope it’s still warm at the beach for you!
I think we should have a National Day of Encouragement every day, lol! I know I could use it. 😁
SotD for CP points is Borsari Acqua Della Macchia Mediterranean. I blind-bought it ages ago at a discounter, and it turned out to be very interesting!
Starts out spicy and earthy, then florals come in for a soft finish. Smells like nothing else I have.
NST is a wonderful resource for Days of Encouragement, IMO.
Yes, so it is!
Late check in for me. Was in town getting my hair cut and tested a bit of AdP Yuzu and Sakura on opposite arms. Yuzu was a bit bug sprayish, but Sakura was delightful!
