It's Hump Day, National Toasted Marshmallow Day and National Slinky Day. Watch for the Super Blue Moon tonight! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando for a morning appointment, but I have Lush 25:43 queued up for my return.
Reminder: on 9/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's September, and the start of the long Labor Day weekend. Wear a fragrance that pays tribute to your own work, paid or unpaid; or that will bring you good luck for the month.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

p.s. I am behind on comments…I have not read all of yesterday and might not get to it until tonight, sorry!
Thanks to Glannys idea from yesterday, I am in Le Lion for the CP. The association is the my beautiful lions in front of NYPL where I volunteer. The perfume also nods to the beautiful leather bound books. So I get some points I hope!?!
Tea is Passage by August uncommon.
Also, I went to the gym this morning. Though I didn’t do much-I got dressed, and went.
ok, LTSG-
1. you smell ah-ma-zing, and
2. Good for you! You did it! You got dressed and went!
I got out of the gym habit this winter-so much extra work at work, I had to let go of something in my schedule-so let go of the gym for a few months. I knew it was the wrong thing to do even when I did it, but it felt so good to let go of something-
it was hard work to talk myself back into it. Good for you for even considering it, let alone doing it.
My scent of the day is Nuits d’Hadrien, which is so conforting on a chilly rainy day.
I think once the kids are back in school I will go back to my routine
You smell wonderful – you are one with the NYPL Lions! 😀
Those are my boys! Patience & Fortitude
You definitely get points and here is another reason for that. St. Jerome, the patron saint of archaeologists, Biblical scholars, librarians, students and translators is often depicted with a lion. Why? Because of this legend:
“St. Jerome is said to be giving a lecture to his students in Bethlehem when a limping lion came to him. While the others fled, the saint welcomed the lion. He examined the injured foot and extracted the thorn he found there. This cured the foot and the lion stayed with St. Jerome until his death.”
So in a way he had his own rescue kitty. 😸
A link to the picture showing St Jerome helping the lion – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Jerome_and_the_Lion_(van_der_Weyden)
I was thinking of wearing Lune Feline this week because of that, but your Le Lion fits her so much better.
Thank you so much for the legend and the beautiful picture.
Now I am so curious to know more about Lion and books/libraries
Wow wow wow
Thank you so much-
I didn’t know about this story. I always talk about Lions as the strength & stability of NYPL-but clearly there is so much more to Lions that I know! I read some where they are an ancient symbol-but of what I don’t know…
You are welcome! I am so happy you chose Le Lion today. I looked at the pictures of NYPL’s lions – very fine statutes!
It does not seem to me that the lion in St Jerome’s is meant to be a symbol of anything. It is just an awesome story showing Jerome as a cool dude. It seemed to be quite popular based on the number of old pictures you can find if you google “St. Jerome and the lion”.
The lion’s adventures do not end here, by the way. There is another story. The lion was given the job of guarding the monastery’s donkey. They became good friends. One day, however, the lion fell asleep and the donkey was stolen. The monks suspected that the lion had eaten the donkey. They made him do the donkey’s old job. Finally, the lion found the donkey and the thieves and brought them to the monastery. This way he was finally reunited with his friend and cleared his name.
You can read and see more pictures here if you are interested –

Thank you so much!
In the last drops of my decant of Guerlain Lui. While I like it, it was always very fleeting on me. I will not miss it.
Very busy week at work. Looking forward to the long holiday weekend.
Coffee and a couple of butter cookies now.
Happy Wednesday! ☕️
I think I might have some Lui – will have to check it out. Hang tough, and yes, the long weekend is coming. I think too good weather with it in the Eastern US! You just made me think: “fleeting” is my penultimate perfume disappointment, close behind the very-much-rarer “headache-inducing.” I’ve learned to appreciate notes I dislike, and sometimes even wear them when I find the right balance. I know weather and skin chemistry play a part, but if a bottle doesn’t say cologne or something similar, I expect many hours of a noticeable scent bubble. There are too many beast-mode beauties of all styles for me not to suspect the maker has taken short-cuts. End of rant.
… but wait … (and I hope to not sound like an infomercial!
To each his/her own I suppose. The 20-minute ones, I would only wear if I am motivated enough to respray throughout the day. For me, the fleeting ones, which I describe as gone within 2 hours despite hajusuuri-level sprays, are good in that it allows me to wear a second fragrance.
…there’s more…right? Your point taken! 😀
Yay for a thunked decant!
SotD is Sycomore edt
And on my wrist a bit of SMN Patchouli. I bought a small bottle today.
Because a patchouli focused scent was still missing in my collection… but i think this one will cover my patchouli needs. 😊
I was not able to read a lot of NST lately, because work was sooooo busy (it still is) but i will try to catch up with!
Sycomore is lovely.
House twins
Indeed! ☺️
Le Lion is lovely as well.
The Sycomore EdT was SO good!
Pouring rain this morning, so not great for toasted marshmallows, but maybe later. :-). I’m going for the sweetness of Fève Délicieuse.
It’s pouring here too 🌧️
poring here, too-Cazaubon you smell fantastic. Re your SL from Joma-does Joma ship liquid to Canada? I tried to buy some Carnal Flower this summer, but the website wouldn’t allow liquids to be shipped to Canada, not even 10 ml.
Love Carnal Flower
I had it shipped to my US address, don’t know if they ship to Canada.
We are in extreme drought with water restrictions and need rain so badly. Wish you could send some our way. But sorry it’s not nice for you.
Oh I like the rain, it just isn’t conducive to roasting marshmallows. 😁
Rain quadruplets with you!
I’m wearing Dodo from a sample. This is the 2019 version, first time to wear it, and I am liking it a lot. Decant worthy, certainly.
Now you have to try Dodo Jackfruit!
Just beating down rain outside, but I’m at work, so I’m not getting rained on, at least. Wearing Boucheron Pour Homme EDP, a sophisticated men’s chypre (not that I’m sophisticated, but I can pretend for a few hours — some scents are like an olfactory costume that let you assume an identity).
That was my fathers scent. He was not a sophisticated or elegant man
Wearing no 5 eau Premiere today and saving LADDM for tomorrow. We are are going to the county fair tomorrow and LADDM fits perfectly with it. The reason we are not going later is because I am either working or it will be too hot to go.
You smell (and will smell) wonderful. Have fun at the fair!
Have fun at the Fair – you will indeed smell wonderful! Do you delve into the edgy fried foods? Don’t you love all the colorful chickens? And, a personal favorite for me is to get to pet a horse’s whiskery nose!
It’s cool and pleasant here, a real taste of fall. When I have to close the windows and put socks on, then I know fall is coming. Supposed to get hot again next week but for now I’m enjoying the cool sunshine.
Wearing Mugler A*men just because.
Yes, socks are the real test! Even when I’ve put on long pants lately I’m still in sandals.
Hello all!
I went sniffing around yesterday with a friend and got to try lots of new things. We tried the new Tom Ford Myrrhe Mystery (if you wanted to pay $395 for Ambre Sultan, here’s your chance!), Penhaligon’s Solaris (which my friend liked), as well as the new Myrrhe 55 from Le Labo. It smells nice but it reminds me of powdery fruit candies and clean jasmine.
I did learn that Le Labo is phasing out their Iris and Oud, both of which were high on my list. I’m honestly considering a FB of the Iris. Curse my procrastination! I could have had it years ago.
Onto my longest day in class, wearing the nuclear Carillon pour une Ange. I’m hoping I can do some homework during my break.
Have a great day all!
Oh I tried Heaven Can Wait as well!
How was it???
As good as I expected! A bit heavy on clove which I absolutely love. Not crazy unusual but a really lovely iris.
How was it?
Great! See above. 😁
Gonna try it when it gets here!
*Thank you* for the TF report – if I plan to get withing sniffing range of it, I’m going to be sure to refresh my memory on Ambre Sulton!
It’s fine but man, for $400 you could get 200ml of Le Lion!
Thanks for the report. I smelled Le Labo Myrrhe and was underwhelmed as well.
My friend liked it but we were both puzzled by the price.
The city exclusives are ridiculously overpriced.
It gets more ouch every year too.
Thanks for the sniffing report!
Any time!
Vintage Miss Dior today. It’s very nostalgic for me, reminding me of my mother and her getting ready to go out for the evening.
And this ties in with the CP this week because scent memories are among the many ways we connect with other times in our lives and the relationships that shaped us.
Lovely choice.
And elegantly expressed about scent memories.
My Mother didn’t wear perfume, but watching her put her face on and tease her hair is a favorite memory.
That’s exactly what my mother would say…”I’m putting my face on.”
IA O, Unknown today. Travel bottle thunked. I should probably get another. On CP, as much is unknown until a meeting I am supposed to be in from 11:58 a.m. – 12:18 p.m. (The precision makes me laugh.)
You smell great! I love the rooty iris in O, Unknown😊
I’ve rediscovered some of my ELdO samples, so today is Soul of my Soul, which has been beautiful all day so far. It’s sweet and powdery but never feels silly.
I’m contemplating a blind buy of a travel spray of the new Heaven Can Wait, but I know that’s dumb and will probably talk myself out of it.
If you buy it and don’t like it, I will buy it blind from you!
That’s all the insurance I need! You have officially enabled me.
🙂
ps really do get in touch if you don’t like it. I would like to buy it, I just can’t make myself do it 🙂
I am in Jul et Mad Nin-Shar, a scent inspired by Babylon (according to the description). According to the bible, Babylon was also where the Tower of Babel was built, and the Tower of Babel is associated with translation and interpretation and sometimes even used as its symbol. That’s my today’s take on the CP.
That’s a great association!
Clever link.
points
and extra points!
Hi all from Berlin! It’s been awhile – it’s been so hectic making this move from the US I couldn’t make time for anything else but I’ve missed NST!
. I’ve been having fun exploring the perfume scene here. Any recommendations are of course appreciated 🙂
In Shalimar Tonka – quite lovely
Sending a fragrant wave – so glad you’ve landed safely!! Keep us posted on your adventures. Did you see Guerlain will be offering Millesime Iris next month? I don’t remember if you’re an iris fan, but if so, in a major city, I’ll bet you can soon befriend a Guerlain SA and be able to give it a sniff!
I’ve been obsessively googling to see when it comes out!
Good to see you here again.
👋🏽
Ah, Berlin! I’m so jealous! (Sadly Mr. Ockeghem never has any research to do in Berlin, so we’re always in the south or in Cologne.)
If you haven’t found these already, my suggestions would be Frau Tonis, 1000 & 1 Seife (Erik Kormann scents), and JF Schwarzlose.
We are going next weekend to visit a friend who works at the university of Cologne – we thought of moving there instead of Berlin for awhile because the winters are apparently milder but I wanted a more big city vibe.
Thanks for the suggestions, these all sound like good to explore
Welcome back! Wow, so you’re in Berlin now. That’s got to be a huge change from the US.
It is and we like it so far!
😊
Nice to see you again and congrats on your move!
What fun! I can’t even imagine the shopping possibilities.
I’m making a list 😜
Nice to see you, yasmina!
You too ringthing
Hot and smoky here today. I’ll be taking a long lunch break to run up to my favorite peach farm; it’s the absolute best part of peach season now, when the O’Henry and Snow King peaches are happening, and large quantities of both will be coming home with me.
Embracing the heat in Bronze Goddess, cutoffs, a Doen top, and quite good hair if I do say so myself!
Enjoy peach picking, it sounds like a good day for you.
Yay for peaches, enjoy!!
I’ve tried Snow King, but not O’Henry. Will have to look for them at the farmers market.
I still need to try Bronze Goddess
Enjoy those peaches!
A good hair day and peaches, what more could you ask for? 😁
For the Labor Day CP: Avon Rare Gold. I was reminded of it by an article on Fragrantica, and my thought on Avon took off from there. My beloved Aunt Winnie, who was truly A Lady who endured many hardships with cheerful grace, working one and often two “pink collar” jobs from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. She befriended many Avon Ladies over those years, and though she loved Miss Dior and others of that type, she had a child to raise as a divorcee, with a responsible Ex who yet did not make much money. Expensive perfumes were not on her menu – she wanted a fun childhood and a good education for her child. When we kids stayed with her, her spotless bathroom often had wonderful-smelling powders, soaps, and lotions from Avon.
What a nice memory of your aunt. I have a few vintage Avon I treasure too.
Aww, I loved reading this about your aunt, thanks for sharing!
Wonderful story about your Aunt. I can tell that you had a great deal of affection for her.
I am wearing Providence Perfume Co. Violet Beauregarde and drinking a very large cup of black tea.
And I am looking forward to the new Willy Wonka movie!
Me too 🙂
I’m wearing Cococabana by Parfums de Nicolaï because it is nearly autumn and I’m not ready for shorter evenings. Had a tiring but very productive day at work.
I am not ready for shorter evenings either!
Strawberries and yogurt smoothie
I am also having an autumnal soup, spiced butternut which goes with the temps. Bottega Veneta today and tonight Fragonard Grain de Soleil which somehow doesn’t fit its name, very resinous and I usually wear it in winter.
I really liked Bottege Venete legere or something like that-I think it’s discontinued.
*Veneta
Yes, the Bottega Veneta Légère was very nice too, it got discontinued first and now the original Bottega Veneta is discontinued as well🥲, one of the few good modern chypre.
Really! Wow
Glad that I have the big bottle of the original Bottega Veneta.
Same here, but sorry that people won’t be able to discover it.
We were sent twins today!
Not in anything that pays homage to my work (what would a lawyerly perfume be…something with books, maybe?), but I’m wearing Papillon’s Dryad from a sample and love it! Any vintage chypre lovers who haven’t tried it, should.
Or an ink note? I enjoyed Miller Harris Tender for that!
I have a very powerful lawyer friend who is a prosecutor in Boston and she always wears Coco Noir. She also mostly wears very fancy black designer clothes and high heels. She’s very much into Halloween, as well, ha ha!
I’m currently sitting in my office, in a library, wearing No 5 L’eau. It’s quite the perfect work scent for many office settings I think. For Friday, I will search for something more librarian. Makes me wish I had something super obvious like Bibliotheque, although I’ve never even sniffed that!
I just read through yesterday’s comments and saw some wondering about Deva. I have also noticed her absence here. I just checked her Instagram and she posted something there 18 hours ago.
Library scent twins
I used to work in libraries, need to dig out my Bibliothèque. Still haven’t organized my perfumes…
I’m wearing Harvest Mouse and noticed this morning that the leaves on my maple tree have started turning yellow. I’m hoping for rain soon.
Oh my, that touches my heart. I miss maples more than most everything else about Michigan, my home state–except maybe also birch trees and blue spruces. I’m going back up for a week in late September and hope to see some beautiful fall colors then–I’ll be “Up North,” as we like to say. Houston doesn’t see fall until maybe around Christmastime. 😉
I’m from Michigan originally, too. Born in Lansing, I lived in suburbs of Detroit until I moved to NYC as a teen.
Leaves are starting to change here in Québec too!
I love reading about the changing seasons in the other hemisphere, as I head into spring you are seeing autumn approach – it gives me tangible sense of living on a planet 🙂
I’m wearing Angélique, my first purchase from Papillon.
That’s such a nice way of looking at it Gaynor!
Joining Nst has definitely made me feel closer to the world outside of my little bubble.
SOTD = L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse
This is one of my lucky perfumes because I found it while on vacation (Brussels)!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CwlK6DnRox8/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Gorgeous bottle!
Thanks!
You smell great! I got a bottle of that in a swap, it’s yummy.
It must have been fate that you found this bottle!
So today we finished at 8pm,after a barrage of emergency retinal surgeries hit us this afternoon!
The moon is beautiful, and love seeing Saturn as well!(it’s 21:58 pm)
Sotd was Molton Brown Rosa Absolute. This is my type of rose!
XO’s
You smell divine, Rosa Absolute EDT is so lovely, like POAL ‘light’.
Yes!
Wow, so many detached retinas, why??
(Actually that might not even be what you mean. What I know about retinas begins and ends with “detached retina”.)
It’s so unpredictable really. We had 3 patients that came in with “fresh” detachments, and that is the best possible scenario for complete recovery.Mostly related to the big 3 causes:Diabetes(!!)Hypertension(!!!) and suspected injuries(airbags saves lives, but a shot to the face can detach a retina like nothing else). So check your bloodsugar, check your blood pressure and don’t crash your car!
🤗🤗✌🏻😉
Ok! Will try not to take a shot to the face either.
Off to look up your sotd!
I think you’ll like it!
Like Aurora said,”POAL light”.😉✌🏻🤗🌹
I’m in vintage Donna Karan Chaos, from a decant that I wish was fuller! This is spicy! ❤️
A serious unicorn now!
I didn’t even remember Chaos until just now. Wow a total unicorn!
This led me down a whole rabbit hole of “Does Donna Karan still exist?” I LOVED the brand in the late ’80s (but as a teenager was not exactly wearing it, ahem), and then I was all over DKNY when it launched, to the point where I have a naughty return story about it (apparently I was well ahead of my time, now I gather this is frequent). I’ve never smelled the Donna Karan scents but would imagine they’re well put together.
A stormy morning here that turned into a soupy afternoon.
Had a terrible night’s sleep last night. And poor Teflon kitty has had an upset tummy today. She’s thrown up a few times and is off her food as a result. I’ve had better Wednesdays.
SOTD = back in 31 Rue Cambon EdT.
Oh no I’m sorry about your cat. Hope she improves soon. I recently bought some different canned cat food because mine seemed bored with their usual fare, which is a Friskies pate. The new kind has gravy and they absolutely adore it and lick up every single drop. However, I’m noticing more runny poop, and that’s not good. I wish I could find something they find delicious but that still works well with their sensitive digestive systems.
I noticed that one of Teflon’s ears was drooping a bit, and she was scratching her ears a lot in the past day or so. I cleaned them out around lunchtime with some drops the vet gave me. Hopefully that does the trick, and she was just a little nauseous from earwax buildup.
Oy about the bad sleep. I hope it’s better tonight!
You smell wonderful in 31RC.
Thanks!
I was NOT happy to be awake at such an ungodly hour this morning. And it seemed to take forever to fall back asleep again.
Bad night twins! Fingers crossed for both of us tonight.
Ugh, sorry to hear that you had a wretched night of sleep too.
Here’s hoping for a good night’s sleep for you and get well wishes to Teflon Kitty!
Thanks lillyjo. Tef threw up a hairball late last night and has been feeling off since.
Vibes for you and kitty!
Thank you cazaubon.
I hope Teflon Kitty gets over it soon! Never good for a kitty to be off their food.
Thanks. I hope so, too. She’s spent a lot of time today sleeping.
I hope you get some good sleep tonight and that Teflon kitty feels better soon.
Today I’ve been watching the Florida hurricane news with interest and concern. I’m worried about friends in the Carolinas. Also it’s just generally a worrisome time if you’re anywhere along the Gulf because this is the big season for hurricanes. And I’m noticing that seemingly innocent little disturbances in the Arctic can come into the Gulf and intensify a lot quite suddenly. So my concerns are partly out of self-interest.
My SOTD is Kilian Angels’ Share which I found when I was attempting to clean out a drawer in my bathroom. Ugh, I have so many things lying around that are lost and now found or others that I simply must pull the trigger on and throw away (old makeup for instance). Anyway, this is sort of sweet and boozy and pretty but nothing I’d ever buy. It made me think of whether there are any “boozy” fragrances I really love, and I couldn’t think of one. (This one has cognac.) Perhaps the one I like the. most is (was) L’Artisan Havana Vanille. I still have a half a bottle of it and love it. Recently I tried Les Imdemodables Vanille Havane, and while it has a beautiful dry-down, I didn’t like it as well because I generally just do not care for tobacco notes and found it more tobacco-centric. All this made me wonder, have we ever done a CP about “boozy” scents?
Oops, I said “in the Arctic” when I meant to write “the Atlantic,” of course. It is probably safe to say that disturbances in the Arctic are NOT likely to cause hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, ha ha!–although of course there are other climate-related worries we might ponder.
I was processing that…and actually, conditions in the Arctic are having some effect on the Atlantic, so it didn’t seem too far off. 🙂
I think that yes, NST has had a boozy perfume CP in the past.
I love Angels Share , the spice works well on me.
Funny, my kids really like it when I wear it
I bought a travel spray of this recently, because it was affordable. It’s a comfy scent for me, though I think that space could be filled with any number of serviceable perfumes, including Memoirs of a Trespasser.
I read that as “National Stinky Day.”
So did I!🤣
I can see that!
Ha, that too!
Same.
I’m continuing to seek good luck by wearing perfumes I am lucky to have. Today I wore Bottega Veneta.
My niece texted me earlier that my sister is in the hospital because she was showing signs of a stroke. I am waiting to hear more.
Sending good thoughts your way (and your sister’s).
Thank you!
Fingers crossed for good news! At least she’s already at the hospital.
Thank you!
Oh dear, do let us know later if she is ok!
I will.
Oh geez. I hope that your sister will be all right. Hugs.
I hope things with your sister are ok. Sending hugs.
Adding my good thoughts for your sister; I hope she’s ok. Sending hugs, lillyjo.
Sending thoughts for your sister’recovery Lillyjo, I can imagine how worried you are.
Yay for being twins today.
*sister’s recovery, I can’t type this morning.
Hope your sister is okay! Please let us know how she’s doing. I love your theme about perfumes you are lucky to have.
