It's (Teapot) Tuesday. Birthdays: John Locke, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Ingrid Bergman, Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Voyage d'Hermès, and drinking a cup of Iyerpadi Estate organic black tea from Upton.
Reminder: on 9/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's September, and the start of the long Labor Day weekend. Wear a fragrance that pays tribute to your own work, paid or unpaid; or that will bring you good luck for the month.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Doodles tea for one from Kit Kemp for Spode is $50 at Bloomingdales.
Hello all! I am going with the work/labor theme. As many of you know, I am a translator and editor. SOTD is Rose Anonyme, and I link it with Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose. It is a murder mystery in a historical setting, and translation of a certain book is part of the plot. Incidentally, I thought of Eco because I have another book of his, which is dedicated to translation and titled Saying almost the same thing/Experiences in translation.
I should be linking my SOTD with books/library. Thanks for the idea. I will put Umberto Eco on my reading list.
Yes, definitely. Library/books is such a rich subject for perfumers. You can find a lot of scents for the CP this way.
Great link! I loved The Name of the Rose.
I loved The Name of the Rose…one of the few books set in the Middle Ages that didn’t drive me up a wall (at the time I was a medievalist). Eco seems like he’d have been an interesting person to meet.
I think the Middle Ages, as well as other historical settings, are often romanticized one way or another, whether it is “good old times” or “see how scary people’s life was back then”. This can lead to exaggeration. While I cannot judge how accurate Eco’s portrayal of those times was, it felt organic, you know. I mean, the feeling the book conveyed was that the Middle Ages were not good or bad – they just were. People simply lived their lives, just like we live ours now.
However, I read a book long time ago, so I do not know how accurate this impression is.
Excellent.
Glannys, I could not get through the book, nor the movie. I tried more than once.
Phew — in could not get through the book, either, though I did manage the film. Regardless, a great choice, Glannys!
I’m with you and skalolazka. I did finish, the book, but it was hard going. At least the movie had Sean Connery as a help! 🫠
Understandable. The plot moves slowly, and, if I remember correctly, there were a lot of descriptions. I myself often struggle with books like that.
I think what attracted me was that the main character’s name was William of Baskerville and he was an obvious spoof of Sherlock Holmes. I wanted to see this medieval Holmes solve the mystery. And I wanted to know who is behind the murders and what was their motive. So I had to finish it.
I can see that! On the subject, are you familiar with the Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters? There are several books, and an excellent TV series made of them. Worth your time if you haven’t read or seen them.
Yes, I saw a few episodes and tried reading the books. I do not really remember why I did not finish them.
BTW, they also made a miniseries a few years ago. No idea whether that adaptation is good or bad, but I wanted to mention it.
Ah, wonderful choice! I too had a special reason to love that book, since the book that is at the center of the murder mystery is, supposedly, the long-lost Poetics Book II of Aristotle. And I am (used to be, perhaps I should say) an Aristotle scholar who has published on his Poetics. In fact there has been, since Eco wrote the book, a parallel in that some distinguished scholars have claimed to find a book that is, not the lost Book II itself, but a summary of it. This has itself now been translated and published. In my somewhat academic mode I will take it upon myself to explain why this is all so important: Book I of the Poetics is Aristotle’s classic explanation of the nature and appeal of tragedy, while Book II was the equivalent for comedy. And the point of Eco’s book is that in the Middle Ages the whole idea of some kind of theoretical justification of the value of comedy was anathema and had to be suppressed–which is why someone gets murdered over it. Comedy would make us laugh too much at God’s creation and at the seriousness of life.
OK, off my academic podium, sorry. Since retirement I always feel somewhat sad at the start of a new semester!!
Thank you professor. And how enticing! The discovery of a summary of a lost book. I read Rose decades ago, and then in the last year or so listened to an audio version. It still held the magic for me, especially the descriptions of the rooms with the manuscripts. In my humble and not a professor opinion, think Aristotle himself would argue that there is no state of being a “former” Aristotelian scholar unless you have forgotten all that you know.
If anyone else is entranced by stories about summaries (or indices) of lost books, the discovery of Colon’s Libro de los Epítomes is one of the best. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/book-lost-books-was-discovered-danish-archive-180971943/
Very interesting, I think it’s wonderful that a book II summary was discovered.
Thanks for providing this summary. Brilliant. Maybe a philosophy CP could follow…match a perfume to a philosopher?
Most interesting! Comedy is not always welcomed by others. I say this as someone who tries to interject appropriate humor into meetings at work…but that levity is sometimes met w/ resistance from others who find it threatening I guess. 🤷♀️ Thank you for sharing your scholarly knowledge!
Exactly! And in The Name of the Rose one of the big fears the murderer has is that exposure to comedy might make people laugh at authorities including those of the Church!
Great analysis. I did not know that the summary of the second book was found.
Thanks, friends, for your positive responses. I was afraid after I’d posted this that it would sound pompous. Here is the book that came out about this issue; Richard Janko, from University of Michigan, is the main proponent of the view. It’s important to note that the new summary was not quite a new discovery but rather a scholarly find that involved reclassifying a previously discovered text by making arguments for its scholarly plausibility. I do remember when Janko’s work first came out and it was pooh-poohed by the specialists but over the years since I believe it has become accepted. https://www.amazon.com/Aristotle-Comedy-Towards-Reconstruction-Poetics/dp/0715631691/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=UyNJN&content-id=amzn1.sym.5f7e0a27-49c0-47d3-80b2-fd9271d863ca%3Aamzn1.symc.e5c80209-769f-4ade-a325-2eaec14b8e0e&pf_rd_p=5f7e0a27-49c0-47d3-80b2-fd9271d863ca&pf_rd_r=FPEC109WBTQMSG4CM8MW&pd_rd_wg=ckp6d&pd_rd_r=26cb468c-8671-4c22-ab73-5caa0d29ae87&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_atf_m
Thank you! I wish you’d write a blog as your knowledge is expressed so beautifully….the opposite of pompous
No need to apologize! It’s refreshing to hear someone speak intelligently about a topic they are passionate about.
I had just completed my degree in French when The Name of the Rose came out, and I read it in French. It was quite a slog back then, I wouldn’t like to try now!
I think I was a student when I read it, and at that time I was used to reading some long and difficult books. Nowadays, my reading stamina is lower. And of course you read it in a non-native language – that is much more difficult.
Great book! Loved the movie as well. Saw it with my dad, who loves Sean Connery. He rarely reads nonfiction, but loved TNOTR.
Count me in the Sean Connery fan club, too! I loved him as James Bond–best one ever. Also he’s so good in that movie The Hunt for Red October, which is just a wonderful thriller (at least in my memory)!
Oh, I loved the Name of the Rose when I read it a million (over 20! 🙀) years ago.
I’m not on theme at all – I’m in SL Borneo and omg I love it! I keep huffing my left arm when no one is around me.
Cheers to an uneventful Tues, after a deep yoga practice this morning. It’s a lot darker at five am than back in June.
It started off sunny here, but now the rain has moved in. For sure fall is coming. You smell great.
Scent yesterday was L’eau de neroli. None today. I just watched Gaslight the other day. I’ll have to check TCM to see if they are running a retrospective of Bergman’s films today for her birthday. They do that often with the more major classic stars. It would be nice if my basic cable actually carried TCM, but, of course, you have to upgrade with a subscription. Nah no thanks.
I love Ingrid Bergman, too! And I love TCM but I haven’t had that channel for years. Did you know IB died on her own birthday? If you get the chance Criterion films published some of her diaries, withe the permission of her children. I loved it – well worth your time and money. Ingrid also took a lot of pictures and home movies, and they’re included, too.
That was a good movie. When I first heard the term used in its contemporary slang context, I had to look it up, because I was sure that no young hipster would spend their time watching old black and white movies! 😁
I grew up on that movie. So using the term “gaslighting” was a term I’ve used pretty much my entire life. It’s one of my favorites. She’s so good in it. Love her in Notorious also.
This morning I am low energy still. Passed again on the gym. I think I will be back at it once the kids are back in school. Or try again tomorrow to go…
Since there is so much talk of the new Malle perfume coming out next month I decided to wear Eau de Magnolia today.
It matched perfectly with my summer dress I am wearing.
Today my plan is to do some shoe shopping for the kids, it’s amazing how fast they go through sneakers.
If Kanuka is reading this, I requested the book you mentioned, and I have next on the list. Right now I am reading a short book Devil in the Flesh by Raymond Radigue. A nice short book to read while I wait for the library to get all the books I requested.
Do they go back after labor day?
It will be interesting to see what you think. I liked the garden and settings and atmosphere but the characters are all a bit flat. Good luck with the shoe shopping. Hope you have fun . Remember when you used to wear your new shoes home from the store? It was that exciting!
I had forgotten that feeling! Like new, more comfortable, more like myself, feet suddenly appearing attached to my ankles.
My son is wearing his new shoes out
So glad you’re reading Le Diable au corps, hope the translation you have is good, it is a French masterpiece, enjoy.
I am enjoying it a lot!
📖
Joining carol in the Lutens house with Écrin de Fumée. Trying to motivate myself to finish off the sanding and painting of two door frames. Lately every task I attempt goes wrong in some way and I run into obstacles, like a personal Mercury retrograde.
I am avoiding tasks…
It’s so frustrating when that happens.
i haven’t smelled your SOTD yet-how good is it? Notes are right up my alley.
It’s a soft, smoky woody scent on me. Lightly sweet, not as sweet as Un Bois Vanille. Very pleasant. I ordered a discounted bottle from Jomashop.
I don’t think Joma ships liquids to canada-or do they? Love your description of this!
Ditto what Carole says. Inquiring minds….
I think Mercury *is* currently in retrograde. It explains a lot…
You are right! I just checked – Aug. 23 through Sept. 15. And from the 23rd through the 2nd Venus is also retrograde! Ugh.
I’m wearing Balle de Match, which is one of my favorite Nicolai fragrances, and appropriate for the weather. By the way, my house was nice and cool when I got home from work yesterday. Thanks for all the good wishes.
Enjoy your cool home
Yay for a/c.
I’m happy for you! I also had an a/c malfunction earlier this summer and trying to survive in our current extended severe heat wave was very difficult.
SOTM is Le Dix, in what I think is the extrait formulation. In the same dilapidated gift box that held dusting powder and a bottle of EDC, there was a tiny bottle — so tiny that there really wasn’t room for much labeling — with a screw-top that refused to budge. Finally coaxed it to unscrew this morning, and what’s in it is gorgeous and definitely has extrait characteristics.
What a nice treat! I’m sure you smell wonderful.
What a nice little treasure chest. Congrats on your unspoiled vintage!
Well done on getting your miniature treasure unstuck!
I’m at a loss for the CP since I worked in schools for years, longest at the high school level. Smells were sweaty kids, Axe body spray and whatever fruity thing the girls were wearing. No thanks!
So I’m just wearing what sounds good this week. Today is Patou Heritage Chaldee and it smells great on this cool morning. Larry the cat is curled up against my legs and he feels nice and warm. It’s supposed to heat back up this weekend but for now it’s very pleasant.
You could try for scents that evoke a school library if you have any, like Bois d’Armenie or Autoportrait, which have a papery note, or Encre Noire for its ink note. Or surely there must be fragrances with a chalkboard note?
Nope, I was the cafeteria manager and I’m kind of full on food scents from salad week. Thank goodness there’s no school pizza perfume that I know of!
Although I believe that a few years ago there was an LE Eau de Pizza Hit…
That does not surprise me. I know Burger King had a perfume at one time.
But thanks for the great ideas, maybe they’ll help someone else.
How about perfumes that remind you of your youth, scents from your own school days, or the 70s- 80s ( or whenever ). Or a perfume that links to a school memory ( like reading To Kill a Mockingbird) . Or simply a very well-organised and structured perfume to represent your work day?
Also good ideas! You’re helping me come up with something for Friday.
Chalk dust! That’s the smell I remember from grade school! Oh how I loved that smell. I used to volunteer to wipe off the blackboards because I loved that smell so much. Probably took some months off my life doing that. It’s a loss for students now (at university level anyway) when buildings come equipped with white boards and you just have to use those erasable ink pens. Ugh and they smell horrid.
I remember the smell of mimeographed paper. Now you know I am old!!!
I guess it is mimeograph paper.
OMG! That smell takes me immediately back to kindergarten.
It was good though wasn’t it?
Yeah.
Cat snuggles are the best! Teflon kitty was snuggled next to me on the couch earlier this afternoon. It felt wonderful.
Aww Larry sends his regards to Teflon kitty 😻
Happy birthday Ingrid Bergman! I can never hear her name without immediately thinking of this lovely song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv5qrflT6g0
In Cuir de Russie today because sometimes you have to snap the whip. Not sure who I’m snapping it for, today — I just have to take Biscuit to the dentist and then meet with a couple of very nice colleagues at my office — but I woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep so I suppose I’m snapping it for myself.
Twins with Isabella today in CdR, the parfum. Four of my physical book holds showed up together, and another four ebooks, so I will postpone some of the ebooks and just indulge in paper books for a while. It’s supposed to rain here finally so I am looking forward to that, too.
I hate it when that happens! I can have only four books on hold, in some cases for years, and yet they will all show up together.
My library does finally have the postpone feature on the e-books now, though, so I’m finding myself placing more holds on them, though I prefer paper.
Here’s to enjoying a rainy afternoon with a book! You and Isabella both smell fabu.
I’m still on perfumes with a clover note for my take on the CP of flowers and plants that symbolize luck. Today I pulled out my decant of Chypre Mousse, or Eau de Crypt, that I haven’t worn in a very long time. It smells like a dank pile of earth and leaves mostly and fits today’s very cool forecast of 61 clouds and rain.
That all sounds very nice, the earth/leaves smell, temperature and rain.
Great take on the CP!
One of my favourite perfumes. So calming.
I think of Deva whenever Eau de Crypt is mentioned.
Today I’m in CSP Vanille Café, from a very old bottle, the aluminum canister with the turquoise printing. (First it was VC in 1976, then Vanille Mokha in the nineties I think, then VC again in 2019.) It’s coffee for people who would rather have a coffee milkshake — rich, creamy, sweet and vanillic.
So far eau du moment is Spot Shot, while I sit next to the chair pad I dumped tomato salad on yesterday and had to try to clean. (Not sure the Spot Shot helped; not sure I want to call upholstery cleaners just for this chair pad, though. I can always turn it upside down.)
Once I get showered SOTD will be *Apartment Please Wait Here, which is what my work life has felt like yesterday and today, in between heartache and explosions. 🙂 We’ve finally gotten rain and it’s cooled off, so hinoki is a good fit for today. Also, it’s pencil-ish for the approaching first day of school. Here’s hoping the smoke has blown away with the front coming through.
Are you enjoying “Please wait here”?
Yes! Very glad I brought a FB home.
Woke up much later than normal. I think it was all the anxiety over a meeting that wore me out. Wearing Tobacco Vanille again today.
I have been so fortunate to receive great fragrances in swaps or as gifts from people on here. One of my favorites that I received this year is Ferre Eau de Parfum. I have worn it quite a bit this summer and just love it! Today I used some BBW Butterfly body cream with it today and I think I smell divine.
On a different note, I am looking for some input from people on here. Have any of you had microblading done to your eyebrows, and if so, do you like it. As I age, I am finding out my eyebrows are thinner and very light in color. TIA.
Yes, I had it done. One of the biggest regrets of my life. The pigment faded and now it is blue.
That sounds more like tattooing than microblading. I have not heard the blue colored with microblading, but maybe I am wrong.
No, it was microblading. They created a pigment to go with my gray hair that apparently had a lot of black in it which faded to blue.
That is unfortunate.
Ferre is one of the scents that slipped right by me. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I had my brows done and wasn’t happy with the results. It could be that my practitioner wasn’t great, but they faded quickly and left bits of faint pink areas (like slightly irritated skin.) Not to mention that it was very expensive. If I were to do it again, I would research practitioners very carefully.
Thanks Ann. This practitioner is very good and she has done several people I know personally. She has had extensive training in Chicago and New York and has been doing it for years. It is expensive though.
Well, in that case, I would say go for it!
I had my eyebrows waxed once when I was a teenager and I didn’t like it. I was traumatized so for that moment on, I never did anything. Good luck
Can’t you buy a good eyebrow pencil to fill them in? There’s some really good ones out there. I use one by Chanel
Oh, I have mine waxed all the time so that is no big deal to me. I have never tried using an eyebrow pencil. May have to try that first.
I use a Benefit pencil. I have two kinds. One that’s quite thin and another that is thicker (they’re goof proof one). They’re both nice and soft and I can get it in gray. My hair isn’t fully gray, but so many pencils tend toward a reddish tone rather than the ash tone I need that I found the gray worked best.
I probably should try that first.
What a fun tea set that is! I love them, and I think I used to have a set, but I realized I like them more for their looks than for using. I like to drink my tea two cups ata time, lol! Up today is Clipper Ship Nilgiri Tiger Hill, for which Vee gets a big enabler pin. 🌟
I think I’ll leave the CP for Friday. (When did it start taking over the whole week, I wonder. 🤔) Perfume-wise, today will be the same as yesterday – new sample testing, yay! Morning: CDG Yoyogi. Verdict: not as bright a green as I wanted it to be. Definite meh. Afternoon: 4160 Tuesdays Oakmossery. Verdict: definite crush, maybe love.
Hi Ann, I’m leaving the CP for Friday as well. I saw your question to me about Medicare too late. Yes, all went well despite all the gnashing of teeth that went along with it. I went with the Advantage plan offered by the Wash state public employees board as we are covered wherever we are (although it may mean paying and then being reimbursed) and also means it’s a bit more expensive than some Advantage plans. We’ll see how it works out. Now my husband (who is 8 months younger) is getting Medicare stuff in the mail and I’m saying sweetly “Have a good time with that!” UGH.
Glad it ended up well. I didn’t do an advantage plan, but I may switch this fall. There’s no escaping it, right? Lol about your DH!
I didn’t go with the advantage plan either and don’t plan to. My husband used to be an insurance agent and advised me on what I needed😊
That’s very helpful!
That sure came in handy! The only advantage plan I was considering is the United Healthcare Plan that AARP advertises. Do you have any advice on that one?
Gotta love having in house expertise!
I go on Medicare in December so have been getting the calls. I decided on my supplement a few months ago so they are wasting their time, but I am sure the people calling don’t know that😊
Yeah, I’m STILL getting calls/mail!
Those tea sets can be awfully cute, but I am very utilitarian in my tea drinking. I use coffee mugs.
This is my favorite mug (no affiliation, of course): https://www.forlifedesignusa.com/collections/brew-in-mugs/products/curve-tall-tea-mug-with-infuser-lid-15-oz
And I’m so lazy, I use the giant paper filters from Rishi so I don’t have to clean out a strainer.
There was a kind of gradual creep of the cps…nobody used to do them daily.
You should never feel compelled to do more than you want to, and that includes Fridays!
Thanks, Robin!
SOTD is Guerlain SDV because I wanted a warm and textured vanilla today. Air is finally better here in Seattle and I’m working on sightseeing plans and wardrobe to pack for an upcoming trip to Rome (early Oct.). I don’t like any of my jeans. Yes, first world problem, but I do wish I had some favorites. As I’m 5’3″, I always need petites, which often means ordering online and it’s such a pain–trying and returning. Ugh.
I would save your clothes shopping while in Italy 🇮🇹
Oh, I hear your pain on shopping for jeans! None of mine fit anymore. 😭
I feel your pain. I have to order practically everything online since I’m so short. And shoes, oh! Try finding a size 5 IRL. 🤨
Happy Tuesday!
Mancera Tonka Cola, which simply brings me joy when I smell it!
Work has been turbulent to say the least!
At least the days are getting longer and spring is not far away.
Chilly tonight and temps taking a dip this week, but back to normal 27° Saturday according to the weatherman!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🇿🇦🌞🌞
You smell great. I got a sample of that one and quite liked it.
Amber and Cola, what’s not to like?!It’s a burst of happiness!
Hope work goes smoothly tomorrow!
I have a big editing and proofreading job for the next ten days so need a perfume that aids concentration and focus. I’m always sad that the word “ amongst” is no longer accepted ( in the publisher’s style guide ) , replaced by “among”. I always try and slip one in at the last edit, as a mark of solidarity. Also have to make sure everything is consistent, often with words like focussed/ focused which I tend to interchange. I am often left wincing as I read….clumsy sentences, overused phrases, poor dialogue….it can be a s disheartening as trying on swimwear. Later will go for a walk and check the magnolias. The purple Lanarth is beautiful right now. Wearing Mitsuoko to aid my brain.
https://jury.co.nz/2017/08/06/the-colour-purple-magnolia-lanarth/
I haven’t seen Magnolia’s that vibrant purple color
Ooh, we have those purple magnolia in San Diego, very pretty!
Oh, I feel your editing/proofreading pain. And so many words are used incorrectly (at least from my background) – like between/among, fewer/less, not to mention all the apostrophe misuse, etc. Mitsouko seems like a good choice. Good luck!
Dangling participles….ugh
Oh, just realized you might be editing something of your own. Maybe not as bad as editing others, but a bit painful.
“as discouraging as trying on swimwear”–I love it!
Actually I did buy a swimsuit earlier this summer–the first one in four years. Ugh! I went to a store I like where they were having a big sale and did OK with what I bought, though I still think I look like an elephant covered in scars (from all my surgeries). I’m not very keen on showing this body in public.
Had to shudder a little bit at “as discouraging as trying on swimwear”. Haven’t done it in ages, and haven’t missed it one bit!
Wow, those are some magnolias! 🤩
Wearing Babycat, or at least I think it is Babycat (the decant label was smeared, but I am pretty sure I got this one right) because it was sitting below my monitor at my desk. That, my dears, is the summation of my perfume choosing this AM. Connection to labor? My own babycat is currently stretched out behind me on the sofa, yawning, as I toil.
How do you like Babycat?
Strawberries, banana and yogurt smoothie
It’s almost cold at 18C and partially cloudy, very British weather. I wore Un Jardin en méditerranée, and it was so pleasant with green fig and herbs but tonight I’m in vintage Je Reviens edt. and nothing smells quite like this one.
Je Reviens – my first love (way back in the late 70s). Enjoy your vintage. It’s so special.
Oh, you had good taste even though you must have been very young, Je Reviens is so distinctive it makes a great signature scent, I have different concentrations, parfum and parfum de toilette but somehow the EDT smelled marvelous today.
I was in high school when I first started wearing it. So many years ago.
It took a little time for me to warm up to it, but Un Jardin en Med is a great summer scent.
It was cool here this morning. I turned the car heater on.
Robin, you smell great in Voyage.
A *very* belated thank you!
Racing by to say that I’m having a flashback to last week’s CP and wearing Colony, which has a pineapple note.
Trying Private Mood So Vanilla today and am getting lemon bars in the opening so far. I have tried two others from this house: Cotton Candy and Berrylicious. Cotton Candy was nice but smelled like caramel and not its namesake. Berrylicious started off a bit sharp but warmed into a nice, sweet and sour berry lemon cream.
My brain is still not firing correctly post-vacation. Feeling unfocused and uninterested. I just want to watch Acorn TV and Ahsoka…not ready for time to move forward. 😅
I am joining you with the post-vacation blah! I call it post vacation blues
Loving the “free water” that has been and will continue to fall from the skies the next few days. It clears the smoke and waters my plants for me😊
Wearing Carnal Flower from a kind and generous NSTer. I’m not only wearing this at *work* today but I’m also trying to think this week about fragrance through the lens of my job as a psychotherapist.
I spend my days hearing peoples’ inner most thoughts, the thoughts they spend a tremendous amount of energy to avoid revealing to themselves, let alone anyone else. I feel very honored to be a companion in this process and am going to focus this week on fragrances that reflect this in some way.
I have made use of someone in your profession a couple of times in my life. There is a kind of freedom in expressing EVERYTHING you need to express to a non-judgemental listener without feeling guilty/pressured.Unspeakable truths sometime need to be released to someone that would handle it with the necessary care.
Respect!🌹✌🏻🤗
J B, I’m so glad that you found a non-judgemental space at times when you needed it the most. We all need places to share the things that we fear will make us unloveable (but are in fact the vulnerabilities that deeply connect us).🌹😊
Glad that you are getting a break from the smoke! The PNW has been rather parched this summer, hasn’t it?
Yes. Like most places these days, it wasn’t this hot here when I was growing up and we certainly didn’t have smoke.
Such a lovely sentiment about your career and patients.
I’m looking forward to your cp pick.
It feels autumnal in Luxembourg so I’m wearing the evocative and appropriate La Fin d’un Eté by Pierre Bourdon which I bought on a very sunny September day in the lovely Astier de Villatte shop on Rue de Tournon. I could wear this year round but I just love wearing it at the end of summer, it really suits this season.
I’m wearing OJ Woman today, and here’s my somewhat satirical comment to make it fit the CP: “A woman’s work is never done.” It’s a kind of awful saying but seems so true even if you are spoiled as I am by having a regular cleaning person. In my case it’s never done because (a) I don’t get around to it and (b) a lot of what needs to be done in my house is cleaning up after cats and their messes!–hairballs, accidents, spilled food, dishes knocked off the table, fluff balls and hair floating around into corners, food bowls to be washed, litter to be changed… Whew.
You smell fabulous!
As someone else who is owned by a cat, yes!
SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum
So wonderful. I got two bottles from France way back when and split one of them!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CwixC2tRxMX/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Just curious – other than food pairing (which I don’t subscribe to anyway), can any anyone comment on how they feel after drinking white, vs red vs rose wine. I am asking because I had a sip of the white wine on offer at Wegmans and even though it was barely enough to quench a hummingbird’s thirst, I ended up with what I would consider a queasy stomach! I don’t think the cure is to practice 🤣.
I used to drink wine in my “younger days”. But I found that a lot of wine was too acidic for me. And sometimes sulfates in the wine gave me a headache. Red wine in particular would HURT! Rose wasn’t really A Thing back then.
Beer is more food friendly, IMO. I also partake of the occasional cocktail. But my limit for any potent potable is still one!
We’re all so different! I chose not to drink beer because the few times I’ve tried it (really, one or two sips), I got instant bloat. As to the red/white/rose, I suppose like you said it could have something to do with sulfites.
Back when I would drink, red wine always gave me a headache. I never cared for beer.
My organic chemistry professor in college was also a home brewer. He made excellent stuff. This was right when the craft beer movement was starting to take off. So I found the right stuff at the right time.
Another gloomy day. It looked like it wanted to rain, but never did. Still way too humid for my taste, yuck!
Now that the sidewalks have been fixed, my HOA is having the streets repaved. They’ve been on a tear with projects this summer. Fortunately repaving only takes 24 hours.
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EdT, from the Sample Stash. I felt like wearing perfume today!
You smell great! I have candidate streets for repaving, not in my development but near here where I take a shortcut.
I have no idea if my street will be milled before it gets repaved and striped. That would be additional noise and dust.
At least I don’t mind the smell of asphalt.
You chose such a good perfume, too, now I wonder if there’s any left in my decant.
Thank you ringthing! I hope you have at least a smidge left of your decant.
I love your perfume choice today. I purchased a bottle of that quite a few years ago and I kind of save it for special occasions as I don’t want to ever run out of it. Pretty sure the price has gone up quite a bit since I bought it.
Thanks Kris! I think the EdT is now gone, gone, gone. I have no idea if the EdP is any good or not.
Yay for feeling like wearing perfume and you smell lovely!
Thank you allo!
Yay for feeling like wearing perfume!
I had a brief downpour today.
Thanks lillyjo!
A bit of rain here yesterday. I think tomorrow is supposed to be unsettled here as well.
Continuing my exploration of languishing Guerlain samples with Rose Cherie. I’m enjoying this one more than yesterday’s Oud Nude. Not sure what to do with Friday’s CP, so off to read comments. Perfect end-of-Summer day here.
Rose Cherie is so pretty!
Oh, I love Rose Cherie.
I have to second what lillyjo said.
I’m going with good luck for the cp. I am wearing perfumes I am lucky to have thanks to generous nsters. I could probably do a month’s worth. Today I picked SL Fleur de O’ranger. Simply beautiful!
I was just telling Allo yesterday that I was thinking of getting another bottle of that. I had one years ago. The discount sites have it for a good price now.
Yes, I am really surprised they stayed reasonable.
I’ve smelled a lot of wonderful things, thanks to the generosity of NSTers. My SOTD is one of them.
Same here. Perfumes I never even knew existed.
What Lillyjo said.
Well, that little teapot is just cute, cute, cute, isn’t it!
I wore my vintage Dune today, and still smell oddly wonderful. If I came upon a bottle of this early version somewhere, I would probably wear it practically every day until it was gone.
Dune is such a bleak beauty on me. Very moody and atmospheric.
Dune can take me right back to young Lillyjo. Sometimes it can make me feel melancholy so I have to make sure it’s the right day to wear it.
Hey… where’s Deva? I keep meaning to ask.
I was wondering the same thing.
She’s been on my mind lately too.
She’s still active on Instagram, so she just must not be making it here.
I wore Allure EdP today because I was craving peach. I love that it lasts decently well.
I wore Allure edp a few weeks ago. It lasted the whole day.
