We're marking the last weekend in July with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you'd be wearing if it weren't so hot out, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Love this morning’s photo! SOTM is Hindu Kush, because it works well either in heat or in the cool of the morning … and also because I love it.
Question: are any of you finding that fewer sprays of a scent are working better than more lately? It might just be me, or it might be the overly warm temperatures, but in the past couple of weeks I’ve had to dial back the enthusiastic spritzing. Just curious.
I agree about that photo! Can’t help with the question though because I’ve never been a heavy sprayer. 1-3 is usually more than enough for me.
I seem to be spraying a little less lately, but I am thinking it is because of the hot weather. It seems when my skin warms up that it projects more, but it could just be my imagination.
I’m an oversprayer of note, but I’ve realized that what might smell fabulous to me could also me stiffling or overwhelming to someone else, especially at work.I’ve dialled it down out of my own accord.

Hi oversprayer twin! I tend to overspray too but always ask family, friends and coworkers if it is “too much”. Thus far no one has complained or said yes. I think how the fragrance wears on you is very dependent on your skin. If I only did 1-8 sprays I might as well not wear anything as neither I nor those near me could smell it. I also think the current offerings are much weaker than they were decades ago. I’m thinking about the Estee Lauder fragrances, some of them referred to as colognes. They were powerhouses. And then there are current niche houses which claim their fragrances are extraits that read like EDTs on my skin and require at least 10, if not more sprays.
No difference for me, but I am a chronic hajusuuri-level sprayer anyway.
😊😂👍
Oh, yes I spray less in summer, typically 3 sprays instead of 4 (or even 5 if the scent is discreet) in the other seasons.
We have featured lots of her photos here…her flickr acct is worth scrolling through!
I am in the same camp as Deva: light applier here. Typically I do one or two sprays year round.
I have noticed my perfumes projecting more than usual with high heat and humidity (when I am wearing them).
Thanks everybody — sounds like it’s probably more the heat than me, which is a relief!
I’d like to talk about the header photo! Wowza! Love it and I’m jelly because there’s more energy in that two dimensional photo than there is in my entire three dimensional body! Hat tip to that photographer.😍
I’m in Omnia today. My bottle is getting dangerously low…😳
Uh oh. Is it still available online?
I recall they recently reissued it,but comparison to Le Original I have not done myself…
Love Omnia!
See my comment to SheriG above 🙂
My question for the day – I am getting ready to order it, but just wondering if anyone has tried Jeffrey Dame’s Vanilla Orchid.
SOTD is one of my favorites this summer – Dusita Splendiris
Love your SOTD as well!
You smell great!
I think that lillyjo has tried the Vanilla Orchid, and she didn’t care for it. Mentioned a plasticky note in it.
Oh, good to know. I better not pull the trigger yet. The reviews were good so just wondered.
I sent the hair oil to a friend of mine and she loved it. Maybe just order a sample?
Thanks. That’s what I did.
👍
I’m in Chanel Paris-Biarritz. Our cold front came through last night-thank gosh!- and it is beautiful today.🌞
Returned home yesterday from the most fantastic 2 days of my summer so far. Spent Wednesday with the bigs (my 2 oldest) for outdoor lunch dining then an afternoon out on the water in the boat. My dad joined us for that. Then Thursday my mom and I spent the morning prepping the T-shirt quilt we’ll be gifting madtownteen when she graduates in the spring, and then! Thursday evening madtownteen returned from her 30 day Saskatchewan canoeing trip.🤩 It was SO good to se her! She looks and sounds like she had an amazing time. So happy for her.☺️
Today is lots and lots of laundry.
Sounds wonderful, MTG!!
We had a Tshirt quilt made for my dad, who starting running marathons in his 70s and ran his last at 80, two years before he died. It was all his favorite run shirts. My sister and I each get it for six months year passing it back and forth.
Wow- awesome and inspiring! I love stories like this. How special that you pass it back and forth with your sister.
Yes, I’ve been saving her school and camp shirts since she was in preschool for sentimental reasons, then it occurred to me to make a quilt! My mom is an excellent quilter, it should turn out great.
lots of loving hands involved. I am sure she will love it.
I hope so.☺️

Sounds like you are having a good Summer!👏🏻👏🏻
This past week has been wonderful!🌞
Sounds great! I love the pics on IG!
Thanks hajusuuri! It was my one wish for the summer that all 3 kids make it up north together just once and it was short, but it did happen! We packed a lot into our 48 hours!😆
Happy for you to have had two wonderful days with your family.
Thanks Aurora!😀
Glad you had fun!
Thanks ringthing!😀
That T-shirt quilt sounds like it will become a treasured keepsake. Glad that you had 2 fantastic days with all your peoples!
Thanks Jalapeno!😀
Nice, so happy for you!
Thanks Robin!😀
Hearing about your wonderful trip cheered me up!
Wow! Sounds like a wonderful time!
Woke up to a thunderstorm and my dog whining. Thunderstorms don’t bother her so I wasn’t exactly happy to wake up at 6:30. Wearing Coco Mademoiselle today and hoping that my work day goes by easier than yesterday.
Very good luck Dawn! We had lots of storms here too, but mostly last night. Heard more thunder a bit ago but it seemed to pass by.
Very cool, somewhat rainy day. Taking advantage to wear Borneo.
well you smell fabulous in Borneo.
11 hours sleep with project in the rearview mirror.
It’s national lipstick day and I am tempted!
Question about Nishane. Anyone have strong feelings about about Wulong Cha?
SOTD post shower will be Gypsy Water.
Yay for a good sleep and project done! And there are some good sales on lipstick, Ulta has Mac lippies 40% off. What’s tempting you?
A Sisley phyto twist lip color. I do have my Sisley list ready for duty free in Paris. so there’s that.
And you will be smelling great!
Enabler pin, I may have😬 broken my no-buy this morning because Nordstrom had that anniversary sale set back in stock. It was just too cute to pass up.
it is too cute!!
Picked up a Fenty Summatime edition (Miss Candy Venom), not that I need another lipstick, but the pink & orange case is just so cheerful.
I just picked up a lip stain in the same packaging because it’s adorable and the color, Fuchsia Wife, is fabulous. Love her stains because they last forever and fade very gracefully. 💋
Oooh, thanks for the reminder–the color is fabulous. Just purchased one of those, too! 😂🤦♀️
Always happy to enable! 😉
This is good to know. I’m finding that the bold, opaque (not matte) lip colors that I have worn for years now make me look older, but my face desperately needs color now that my hair is mostly silver — I’ve been loving the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil I bought on a whim last year and wondering about other stain/sheer products. Will try the Fenton!
FYI: This stain is VERY opaque! I usually just dab a bit on my bottom and top lip and tap it around with my finger to get a more sheer look. Usually will top with some type of balm because it’s bone dry up here.
I really like Gypsy Water. I have it on my wishlist at Nordies.

Not to enable or anything.😉 They are so cute I could not resist.
I think you will be receiving an enabler pin.
😂 it goes to apsara. She posted when the sale started but it sold out almost immediately. I thought oh well, money saved. I just happened to randomly check this morning and it was back in stock, so…money not saved.🫢
there’s no lack of pin sharing here! Funny, I was never that big on Byredo and then, who knew?
the joy of fragrance, no?
After looking at the reviews I think I am going to pass. These don’t come with a sprayer (atomizer) and that was a big complaint. The little Jo Malone bottles have those and that helps you control the amount better.
Oh bummer! I do prefer a sprayer.☹️
Here is almost the same. A little more expensive, but with sprayer and a little larger in size.
https://www.luckyscent.com/product/641004/la-selection-nomade-by-byredo
This is the set I bought. The other bottles are cuter, but no sprayer is a deal-breaker for me.
You people are all evil — I just ordered that adorable set too, so enabler pins all around! 😜
Oh Wulong Cha is the one I haven’t tried yet and would love too…
me too. Or the Wulong Cha X.
Eau de Lancaster today for a day of doing house chores and some gardening. I ate too much yesterday, so i will have to hit the gym tomorrow and maybe go to the sauna afterwards, because its coolish here at the moment.
Nice to see you! Enjoy the gym!
I received some Panouge samples when I picked up the Fath L’Iris,so today I’m in Patchouli Figue. It’s a humongous fruitchouli, the patchouli is smooth and I enjoy the fig(ripe flesh and leaf) more than I expected, fig and I are not always the best of friends.
I had so many plans for today, but ended up picking up my laundry, having lunch and an afternoon snooze in the sun and just lazying around for the rest of it.Tomorrow we have a temperature dip of about 10°,I’ll leave all the chores as kind of a warmup-workout for tomorrow(Winter this side, remember!)
Stay cool up north!
My succulents are pushing buds(a blooming rockrose) and that’s luckily a sign that Spring is juuuuust behind the mountains.Can.not.waittt.
XO’s!
I have done about half of my list for the weekend, not too good for Sunday at almost-dinner time! Glad you got to laze around too.
Take it easy Robin!🌹🤗
Commando for a sweaty morning of yard work, then post-shower it’s Chanel Allure edp and an almost-thunk of the body lotion that’s been hanging around since 2021. I had to reschedule my Barbie movie outing because one of the girls was sick. Our sights are set on Tuesday. Not being much of a movie goer, I was surprised at how our theater changes up the show times from week to week. I don’t remember that from the old days, but maybe I wasn’t paying attention.
I love Allure and don’t often see it mentioned. You smell(ed) fantastic!
Allure is wonderful. You smell great.
Was back in Tauer Maghreb this morning. Then Etro Palais Jamais after a shower, to go see Carmina Burana tonight. There’s a theatre group from Barcelona, La Fura dels Baus, that is performing their first North American show. Should be interesting!
That show sounds like it is going to be amazing!
Banana, strawberry and yogurt smoothie
I didn’t checked in yesterday but was CP compliant in Berdoues Maasai Mara, today Eau de Patou and tonight Cacharel Noa.
Belated points, Aurora! Hope it was a good weekend.
I’m smelling very nice on a lazy Sunday morning. Kanuka gave me a mostly full bottle of Chanel 1932. That was very kind of her 🙂
It was cold overnight, with a bit of frost still on the back lawn and on neighbours’ roofs, but the sun is appearing, so it’s a promising day.
I’m meeting an old friend and her husband for lunch, then flying back home this evening.
Yes! I love 1932, you smell great.
Safe travels back! With no delays or lost luggage, either.
The cold front came through last night and today is comfortable and much less humid. I’m wearing En Voyage Go Ask Alice for lots of errands and to see Mission Impossible.
We’re still waiting for the rainy weather here which I am hoping will cool us off in these here parts.
I hope you enjoy the movie!
SOTD = Akro Bake EDP
My mouth is watering 😍

Has anyone ever tried Akro East? It sounds like it could be right up my alley!
So I bought a number of items from Amazon Prime Day, one of which is an oscillating fun. Since that order, Target restocked and I ended up buying one of the fans which seems to have more features than the one from Amazon. I finally got the email saying the Amazon fan was ready for pickup and since I was going to return it anyway, I did a return so I did not have to pick it up. Well, would you believe I couldn’t return it to the same place where I was supposed to pick it up? I was already there to pick up a DVD and I just said I wouldn’t take the fan since I electronically returned it. Panic ensued (by the worker there) until a supervisor showed up (coincidentally) and he said he will take care of it. I hope it works out because I will dispute it provisionally with Amex in case I don’t get my money back.
And finally, here’s a bonus Caturday post:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CvSsF14xMxL/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
No clue whatsoever about anything from Akro. AFAIK I don’t have anything of theirs in The Sample Stash. But I will also say that my mind hasn’t been much on perfume lately.
Still stinking hot and humid here today, even after some rather energetic thunderstorms late last night! Wasn’t expecting those. And Teflon kitty was NOT a fan of them either. 😾🤬
Arko has piqued my curiosity, but not enough to order samples. As far as Amazon goes, If you have it delivered to one of their lockers, you can just leave it and they will pick it up after 3 days and automatically refund you.
Oh this is good to know. Thanks!
NSTers! Mr. Skal and I are in Adelaide! Let me say that the 17-hour leg (nonstop JFK to Auckland) was actually not bad — turns out that an uninterrupted stretch seems to help (us, anyway) with sleep. And plain economy on a 787 is not bad, either, at least not as Qantas configures that cabin; I’ve read that other airlines put far more seats in that plane.
And of course…our grandson is adorable. I may not have seen Mr. Skal so happy, ever.
Perfume: all the minis/samples/decants I brought for our daughter made it intact and she is quite excited. We went to the pharmacy yesterday to buy allergy meds, and I discovered…a room of perfume! It’s apparently new — the pharmacy has been there for years but just expanded into this adjoining space, creating the perfume boutique. They have mainstream but also niche — I saw some Amouage, for example. I didn’t have time to sample but it’s only a 15-minute walk, so I will be back. One flight attendant on the Auckland-Sydney leg was wearing Jo Malone lime/basil and he smelled divine; I’m goin to try that one.
Also, I came face-to-face (nose-to-nose?) for the first time with Baccarat Rouge in a shop at the Sydney airport. It’s lovely. It went funny on my skin after about five hours, but my denim jacket still smells fabulous. I get the adoration. (But $$ saved.)
Sorry this turned into a novel. 🙂
Sounds great, have a wonderful rest of your trip!
Sounds like a wonderful trip. Have fun!
Oh yay, so glad the flight was not horrid, and congrats to you both — enjoy your grandson 🙂
Have a great time!
starting incense week a week earlier so today is Portrait of a Lady which is listed as an incense fragrance on fragrantica. I enjoy it much better in the heat as it really blooms. And I won’t even tell you how many sprays 🙂
Lol about the “And I won’t even tell how many sprays” that made me laugh with my morning coffee.
Hahaha… But let me guess somewhere between the breaking line of 6-8 to 12!!
Ummm… a bit more lol
28?!
Wows!!
I’m afraid to ask the number of sprays… I can no longer wear that one because it gives me a headache but you smell wonderful.
Never even tried it… But to those around me I still call myself a “perfumista”.
As you should!!
Yes I definitely should and would. Most likely will too:)
I meant you should always consider yourself a perfumista whether or not you ever try a popular fragrance!!
I’ll second this!
Plus, a perfumista doesn’t *have* to like a popular or well regarded fragrance. One likes what they like, and it’s all good.
Thank you!! I’m sorry that it triggers a headache. On my skin it’s simply gorgeous. The checkout lady in the grocery store told me that I smell “amazing’ . I asked her if it’s too strong. Her reply “Definitely not “
Well there you go — however many sprays (fess up?), it was clearly the IDEAL number of sprays for your conditions.
I’m sorry that it induces a headache for you. I will happily wear it for you 😏
Now I need to try that one in the heat. I have it stashed with the winter scents, but will get it out.
I find that on my very bizarre skin the light scents that are citrus and musk based wear better in the winter cold for me and the heavy hitters are amazing in the summer heat and humidity.
POAL is beautiful. Just beautiful.
Agree!! No matter what the season or weather!!
Sunday is a church day!!
The last couple of months I have been wearing Aventus for Her every Sunday.
Hope it was a good Sunday 🙂
Did some cleaning yesterday before heading to dinner at friends’ place. He did tapas. 3 courses of small plates. For each course, we switched places at the dinner table. Everything was delicious, but we had to leave just before 3rd course. My husband, who wasn’t feeling well, finally said we needed to leave. He still feels crummy today…stomach thing mostly. And I managed to wrench something in my back so am trying to find a way to lay or sit that will calm it down. I am currently laying on our den couch with knees up, seeing if that will be the neutral position the back likes. We are pathetic.
But, I smelled beautiful last night in Chanel No. 19 EdP. Nothing yet today but I am surfing Lucky Scent. May order some samples.
So sorry, hope both of you are feeling tip top soon!
Panouge Absinthe Gaïac on a chilly Sunday!
This one smells like cream soda to me(anyone remember the original Ghost fragrance, somewhat similar).Reviews mention a bitter note but I don’t get that at all. This is defo fb worthy to me.I’m liking the Panouge range so far!(Same perfumer that did the L’Iris de Fath edp, btw!)
✌🏻
Have you worn the L’Iris de Fath yet…how peachy is it?
Yes,I wore it on Thursday!
It’s got the Mitsouko-peachy vibe,if that’s any help at all.(no fruit-salad-peachy though!)
Speaking of peach, I’m wearing Bitter Peach this morning and trying to muster up the energy to go outside. It’s a brilliant, beautiful day and I would hate to miss it, but I am so tired today.
Hope you are better rested tomorrow foxbins! It was gorgeous here too.
Woke up super late today, must have been more tired than I thought. Wearing Epic body butter layered with the EDP. Don’t have anything planned today but sick of all the shark fest nonsense on TV so it’s off for a drive or Netflix.
I’ve spritzed several samples this afternoon, but real SotD is Womanity Eau for Elles. I had no interest in the marketing and note list of any versions of Womanity until I smelled it – ha. Eau for Elles is refreshing if not exactly fresh, and I love it on a very warm Summer day!
Quiet weekend here on NST. Hoping everyone is enjoying the weekend and taking care in this killing heat.
I’m off to the salt mines again tonight (came this close 👌🏼 to calling off, but the staffing is so bad I couldn’t do it without actually being sick😭). Wearing SL Un Bois Vanille because it’s absolutely perfect. Every. Single. Time. ☺️
When I came out to the camper on break last night to let the dog out, I found her in the bathroom! There’s a small ledge between the toilet and the camper wall, and there she was, wedged in there sitting upright after somehow managing to hop over the garbage, my boots, and the toilet to get there! I’d like to know the story behind this but she’s not talking. Usually she’s sprawled out in the bed under the covers…it’s a mystery unlikely to be solved.
Hope you have a quiet evening.
Thanks!
