It's Monday, World Red Cross Day, and Iris Day. Happy 97th Sir David Frederick Attenborough! (And happy ** birthday to my little sister.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I am still commando, and I still have lots of family in town so it's possible I won't post again today, we'll see.
Reminder: 5/12 will be Italian Designer Friday...wear a fragrance by one of the mainstream Italian fashion brands we have not covered so far...maybe Versace, Dolce & Gabbana or Armani? Zegna, Ferragamo, Fendi? (We've already done Italian Niche, and we've done Prada and Gucci).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

p.s. Many thanks to everyone who sent good wishes on the weekend poll — my husband’s celebration of life event yesterday afternoon was just lovely and exactly what he would have wanted, with lots and lots of laughter.
So glad to hear that it went well <3 <3
Thank you for sharing, Robin. Glad to hear it went according to his/your wishes.
Glad it was a good experience!
I am glad to hear the event was comforting and beautiful, as expected. Hugs.
Thanks for posting this, Robin. I’m glad it lived up to expectations, and hopefully, you were able to join in the laughter at moments.
I’m so glad that it went well.
Lots and lots of laughter… that sounds like a true celebration of life. Sending you some hugs today, Robin!
Big hugs Robin, and am glad it went well.
So very glad it was a real celebration of his life.
I’m glad to hear that went well, a celebration of life is such a nice way to remember.
So thankful, Robin, that you made it through with some laughs and love.
There should always be laughter surrounding our loved ones….so glad your celebration of life was as you hoped. I am sure that those shared memories will remain even after the guests have gone.
I’m so glad that it was a lovely celebration, Robin.
big hugs to you and your son.
That sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate someone special. Big hugs to you.
So glad to hear that it was lovely.☺️ Continuing to hold you and your son in my thoughts.
Pleased to hear that the service was exactly what you wanted/needed, Robin. More hugs!
I’m so glad it all went well and it was a celebration worthy of your husband. ❤️
Excellent.
HUG
A very belated thank you to everyone!
I’m in Jubilation XXV, which I like better than Jubilation 25.
You smell awesome!
i love them both, but XXV is an easier wear imo
First off, I want to thank therabbitsflower for mentioning John Scalzi, a new-to-me sci-fi author, in yesterday’s reading poll. I’ve started with The Collapsing Empire, which is apparently the beginning of a series, and so far I’m delighted! It’s sort of a cross between the first Dune novel and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, with a bit of The Expanse thrown in. Very fun and engaging so far.
Second, I’m in Armani Privé Cuir Amethyste this morning, courtesy of a very kind NSTer. It’s one of my favorite warm iris scents. I might be able to do a whole week of Italian niche, depending on how one defines “niche”. Will give it a whirl. 🇮🇹
If you like audio books Wil Wheaton reads several including the collapsing empire ones and he does them very well
Oh, good to know — thanks!
Oh yay, I’m glad to have led you to an author you enjoy!
Thanks for sharing about yesterday, Robin, I’m so glad it was what he would have wanted 🌹
I’m taking CP points today in Roberto Cavalli Oro.
Thanks ringthing!
Just wanted to call out the Handbook of Great Italian Perfumery for this weeks theme: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/The-Handbook-of-Great-Italian-Perfumery-14644.html
I don’t own it but it looks like a fun book to have.
I’ve been MIA as I caught a lousy cold last week and haven’t been able to smell very well. I spent most of it at home lying around the couch and occasionally doing small chores.
In my restlessness, I made some incense sticks but couldn’t enjoy them very well thanks to congestion. However, from what I can smell I *think* I’ve worked out some really lovely scent combinations: sandalwood and benzoin complement each other well, and so does sandalwood and clove. If any of y’all enjoy incense and would be interested in testing some I made, let me know!
SOTD is the comforting Chanel 1957.
Glad you are feeling better, psfh!
thank you! its good to breathe out of one nostril.. better than none!
Hope you feel good son!
“soon”.
thanks friend! getting rest and vitamins
Hope you feel better soon! That incense sounds like a fun project!
Thanks friend! Incense making is indeed fun and surprisingly easy to get started on!
It never occurred to me that it might be easy, lol! What did you start with?
I started with a class with this incense maker! She sells a kit as well that you can start with: https://www.baboshop.space/product-page/incense-making-kit-diy
Thanks for the link!
Spring colds can be mean.
Between colds and allergies, my nose hasn’t been very happy! It’s improving though.
Good to hear that you are improving! Spring colds are evil. 👿🤧
I have a very small amount of early-nineties Dior Fahrenheit left and I decided that today was the day to finish it off. It was so strange and so good, gasoline and celery and herbs and leather, angular and astringent — it’s sort of a wonder that it became such an immense hit, but it’s yet another one of those scents that I bought upon first smelling it without even a moment’s hesitation, because the quality and the sheer genius of it was instantly obvious.
You smell fantastic. Fahrenheit is a masterpiece!
Oh, I wish I could smell you. I loved Fahrenheit!
La Panthère edp for a day at the office. I had a boring training. We are getting a new Document Management System this spring and the training was mandatory for all employees 😒
La panthere was my first perfume buy this year (out of 2 so far, second one was Concentre d’Orange verte…)
When I tried it a few years ago I was not impressed at all, but this year I tried it again and it turned out exactly to be what I needed at that moment: office friendly, clean but not boring, with a positive vibe. The cat themed bottle helped a bit as well I must admit 😅
Oh man, I can feel my brains dripping out of my ears at the idea of Document Management System training…
😅
It was a snoozefest.
And its not like it was radically different from the one we have.
It was useful to learn about the new structure and set up.
But it lasted 2,5 hours… at least 1,5 hour too long 😂
I read Document Management System Training and thought, I don’t have to do that any more! I don’t have to do that any more! My brain gave it a tune and now I have an ear worm!
😂
We were assigned mandatory training last month but someone forgot to check to see if every part of it worked. As it turned out, the audio was spotty when taking it in office … So now we’re back to waiting for it to be reassigned, maybe in September (this year 🤣).
Haha 😆
Were attendees there when they found out?
It was already rolled out but the email announcement had not gone out yet, thank goodness!
Claiming stretch points for the CP. SOTD is Hermes Un Jardin Sur La Lagune, which is not fom an Italian house of course, but supposedly the scent is inspired by Venice, so there ya go. S-t-r-e-t-c-h…!
It’s gray and drippy here in the Winter That Never Ends.
It’s good to stretch sometimes, right?
Today is Iris Day? My irises are way behind. And I missed it as a perfume since I am in Dame Wisteria Soliflore today…
Also, I like the frilly sheer little dresses, although they have nothing to do with my life…
Same here!
Iris day! I am celebrating wearing one of my favorite iris scent: Iunx Talc.
We are having a gorgeous warm, sunny day in the mid 70’s. I took the day off today to take care of a couple of virtual doctors appointments for my mother. Very stressful, but I am taking things day, by day.
Having my third cup of coffee and an almond croissant.
Happy Monday! 🌻
I hope the nice weather and almond croissant balance out the stresses of today!
Thank you, Tulipani! 🌻
Good luck with your mom. I imagine your entire place smells like Iris!
💜
Thank you, Annie. Everything went well considering the circumstances. 🌻
I bet your sotd is amazing, of course! I hope the appointments for your mom went well.
Thank you, Gail! It is very sad that Iunx was discontinued. If Talc returned one day, I would buy backups of backups!
I hope the coffee and croissant helped balance the stress a little bit.
They helped greatly! I am taking my last cup of coffee of the day now.
Day by day is sometimes the only way a person can get thru situations. Hugs to you.
Thank you, Jalapeno! Hugs are very appreciated!
Oh, happy birthday, Sir David!
He has a new documentary series on Amazon about wildlife in Britain and Ireland that I’ve been enjoying.
No points, but wearing Cadjmere (and a cashmere sweater)
You smell very good.
Robin, glad the celebration of life went well!
SOTD = Diptyque Tempo
My eyes spied the bottle over the weekend and I, me and myself decided to wear it today. I only used 3 spritzes because, for some unknown reason, it was very potent!
The vacation will be here in 9 days so here we are I have to decide what to bring. I have to take into account the few days I am spending in Boston and then the more “formal” wear and then all the clothes that need layering because one never knows what the weather will be like. I can have laundry done thought but it means bringing “lesser” clothes as the laundry uses the coldest wash and the hottest drying so everything comes out not quite what they went in as …
Excited for you, yes, maybe lots of layering is the way to go.
I’ll be ready for any weather!
Will you be in Boston long? Is that part of your 🚢?
I embark and disembark from Boston. I’ll be there 2 full days (18 and most of the 19).
I must have missed the post….where are you headed? Hope it is someplace wonderful so that I can “vacation” along with you!!
The coasts of U.S. and Canada. We have a new port – Eastport – that I haven’t been to as yet!
Sounds fantastic, love the ports in New England and Canada. Hope you enjoy…
Safe travels, and may you have pleasant weather!
Thank you!
And you must be excited, 9 days will fly by.
Thought about you several times yesterday, Robin, and glad there was lots of laughter. I think humor is the best part about being human (language is also nice 😉 ) and the most useful skill in my tool bag many days.♥️
Wearing And The World Is Yours today. Go big or go home…even if you are working from home. 💪🏻
Agree entirely about humor!
In a bit of pear today with MFK Amyris femme, sample, for morning and Clean Reserve Radiant Nectar, 4 ml travel size, for evening. 🍐
It’s been awhile since I’ve heard someone mention Iunx; I bet you smell pretty.
Good luck with those appointments! I’m joining you in that third cup o coffee.
Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to pl67!
Thank you, AnnE! Talc is indeed a very pretty soft, delicate scent!
One more appointment to go. Coffee is helping immensely today!
I wore Hiris today without knowing about World Iris day. I had a half- day workshop that was useful BUT went without a break from 8:45-12:20. My lower back was grouchy already this morning, and now it is quite unhappy so I am about to go add a layer of Tiger Balm to the Iris (which is pretty much gone).
Robin, so glad that yesterday went well. I hope that the celebration will continue to provide comfort in the days to come.
It will, and it really was delightful to watch my son soak in all these stories.
I am celebrating Iris day with Chanel no. 19 poudré and preparing myself to a busy week ahead.
Wearing Insolence today, because I spotted the sample as I was ruffling through others. It’s just that kind of Monday!
I loved all the book recommendations over the weekend! PSA for anyone interested in The Candy House that sistine recommended: the Kindle version is available on sale now for $1.99…. if you want to take your time and not deal with the library.
When I don’t feel like expending energy by finger walking my perfumes and thinking about each one (which is the absolute height of laziness, I know) I just go with Shalimar MVP. No thought, it’s more like a spinal reaction. 😆
Beautiful day with sunshine so we are headed out as soon as I pop my contacts in.
Robin, after all those wildly swinging emotions yesterday, I hope you had a very deep and healing sleep last night.
😴
Shalimar MVP is gorgeous and delicious, I can see why its an automatic reach!
I have actually slept well every night…not as long as usual, but at least 6-7 hours a night. It is one of the good things about being in this extended state of shock.
Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuille from my full bottle that arrived over the weekend. I smell so pretty!
One of my favorite parts of working from home is that I can spend half the day spraying perfume and it doesn’t bother anyone. And I have a few scents I can spray heavily throughout the day to top up since they are so lightweight. Le Chevrefeuille is one of these – and once you sort of get to a certain threshold of spraying it sticks around like a soft halo.
Yes, it does mean I use up the bottle quicker – but since I’ve never even gotten close to finishing a full bottle ever* with my usual 2 – 3 sprays per day per bottle, blasting 12-20 per day and getting the volume down to under the halfway mark is exciting! Feels like I am accomplishing something. Like when I burn a candle all the way through.
*okay, my 50ml bottle of Lovely by SJP is at the 20% mark, but I did wear it as my office scent for years to get there, max 2 sprays at a time. So getting 60% through a bottle of Trish McEvoy n9 in 4 months was a comparative roller coaster!
Would you repurchase Lovely if it wasn’t discontinued?
💜
Wha!? It is discontinued?!?! Well the answer is heck yes, and I am about to head to ebay to snatch up a backup bottle.
I’m not sure if it is discontinued, but a 100ml FB can be had for less than 20 bucks from Fragrance.Net (no affiliation except that I am a frequent enough customer that they should give me some shares)
Lol – I get it! The worst part about buying from Fragrance.net is i can never stop at just one item. Am weirdly thinking of buying a 1 oz and a 1.7oz of Lovely since the smaller bottles are so cute. Then I am also combing through the makeup and perfume tester bottles to see if there is anything I want…
Dangerous waters! No regrets though.
Contact me at
username at gee male dotty com.
I might take a day, but I’m almost positive I have a new in cellophane, old one that is yours if you like.
If you have a touch of patience.☺ I never do.
💜
It is SO satisfying to make a perfume dent! Especially when it passes the halfway mark (happens so rarely for me)
Today was a bank holiday and everything is so calm, grey weather with some rain but not continuous.
I wore Avon Today, Tomorrow, Always, My Everything, rather a mouthfull, it’s very peachy, definitely not very special but pleasant enough, I’m still searching for modern Avons that could rival Occur! or Timeless without success. Tonight it’s Berdoues Maasai Mara which is much better, lots of cinnamon and the fruit is mostly plum.
Iris day!
Appropriate in Dior Homme edp….aaaamd thuuuunk! It’s a heavy bottle and it sure did make a thunk in the bin at work!Lol!
Robin,I’m glad the celebration went smooth!🌹
VERY anxious tonight because I missed a call from the cleaning service I took my new Hermès scarf to.Cannot wait till 8am tomorrow,as always I am expecting the worst(is it missing?is it damaged?did you accidentally wash it????I can drive myself nuts when I can’t get an immediate answer…!!)
Hold thumbs please.
I’ll report back tomorrow.
XO’s✌🏻🤗🌹
Hope you get good news about your scarf! Congrats on the THUNK!
Good luck with your scarf!
Hope scarf was just ready for pickup! I’m always nervous for stuff to come back from the cleaners too, but I’ve handwashed several of mine in water and they are always fine, hopefully yours is too!
Hopefully you will have your scarf in hand by this time tomorrow.
I’m back to the office today after a week’s Covid isolation, I am so looking forward to seeing people! Zoom is very useful, but it’s not real life.
I don’t have a lot of Italian perfumes, other than Armani Privé. I don’t like everything I’ve tried from that line, but quite a few of them really clicked for me, and I can do a week. I’m starting with Encens Satin, which is somewhere between incense and amber.
Thanks for reminding me of Armani Prive! I have Iris Celadon, which is a bizarre iris and cocoa scent to me — have you tried that one?
I’m going with Versace Bright Crystal, travel spray.
I’m organizing the fumes like we all do. I am going to be ruthless. If someone knows the link to people’s unicorns, could you pass it along? The Versace is going, too. Lol.
Its beautiful and so are you all. This place has made my heart so happy throughout the years, I can’t thank everyone, especially Robin, enough.
💜
What does that mean, the link to people’s unicorns?
And I’m so glad.
At some point, I caved and bought the Zegna Essence discovery set, so I think I’m all set for this week’s CP!
Today it’s Florentine Iris. Pretty but fleeting.
So many irises are pretty but fleeting! (28 La Pausa, esp.)
You’re right about that!
With this being iris day, I went with Hermes Hiris and Love les Carottes. Like someone said, go big or go home!
You smell fantastic!
Thank you!
Darn – I missed world iris day and it’s one of my favorite notes. I wore le labo’s Fleur d’Oranger 27 from the travel spray I purchased in their Las Vegas boutique. Not going to lie, I wish I was in Vegas instead of busting my butt finishing the final paper for this course…
Teflon kitty had a vet appointment today, so I did get her in this week. The verdict: allergies. She licked those areas on her front legs raw dealing with some skin irritation. So Tef had an antibiotic shot, and prescriptions for an anti-anxiety medicine to calm the stress grooming. She’s getting her favorite wet food for dinner tonight.
SOTD = back in Patchouli Nobile. I seem to need all the calming perfume I can get my hands on as of late.
Glad Teflon kitty is only having allergies. I hope she feels much better soon!
Thank you PL67.
Good to get an answer! And even better to have the meds. I hope they’re not too expensive. Sounds as if Teflon kitty will be back in working order soon. 😻
Thanks AnnE. Hopefully Tef will quit licking her sore spots so they can heal up.
I hope Teflon kitty starts feeling better soon.
Thanks Vee.
Teflon!
My pup licked herself raw, too. We got bitter tasting bandaging at a pet shop to help stop. I don’t remember if it worked. We did use an inflatable donut around her neck so she couldn’t reach those areas while they healed.
They never gave her any help. I’m so happy Teflon will be ok.
You hanging in there?
An E-collar was suggested, but I think Tef would have been miserable in it. Her sister Pixel certainly was when she had to wear it.
Trying to hang in there. It’s hard sometimes.
Whew! That’s a relief. Does she need to wear a cone?
Nope, no Cone of Shame or inflatable donut.
https://youtu.be/REKLC3s30Mw
This is a response to your comment yesterday about how fast the sample stash grows. Lol.
Good to know Teflon will be on the mend!
Fingers crossed for Teflon kitty anyway, right?
My fingers are always crossed for the kitties and pups of nst.
On behalf of all the kitties I have ever had, or will have, thanks.
Tef got her first dose of the anti anxiety med earlier tonight. She’s acting a little stoned right now.
I have either forgotten or missed the last Gucci CP, and I have a few samples to try, so I’m going to wear those this week to keep with the spirit, if not the letter, of the CP. Today is L’Arte di Gucci. It has the rose-patchouli thing going on. 80% fresh in a bouquet and 20% potpourri. The currant leaf here is interesting too. I know it came first, but this is my first time trying it, so while it seems to me like a layering of POAL with a bit of L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, I guess it would be more accurate to say that this seems like the starting point and those two are interpretations that focused on different aspects. If this were still on the market, I’d get a bottle because A) it is quite beautiful and B) the bottle is gorgeous.
Had some oolong this morning and now I’ve got a pot of Harney & Son’s Soho brewing.
I would join you in getting a bottle of L’Arte di Gucci! It is/was gorgeous. I should find and thunk my sample of that.
You smell wonderful. I’m glad to have found one of the bottles with just a bit left (thought I’d have finished it by now) so as to enjoy this long-gone beauty without breaking the bank.
Rose+patchouli=❤
For the CP, and Iris Day, Gianfranco Ferre Ferre. I have the one in the lovely, heavy glass rectangle with “Ferre” pressed on the bottom. However, I had a lot of running around to do, and was outside a lot, so I don’t have a strong impression of how it performed. Maybe I will revisit it later this week. I have some nice choices for the CP. Robin, I am glad you have some family who can stick around for a while.
Looking forward to your update!💜
Thanks MossyBerry! I have a wonderful family, they will be in and out for the rest of the month, and the rest of my life really.
I don’t think I have anything from the Italian brands mentioned so I may go between Etro and “drug store” brand L’Erbolario. Someone I swapped with in Italy years ago once described the brand as Italy’s Bath & Body Works, which I found fun.
Today I’m in Messe de Minuit from the generous MossyBerry.
Posting and running today.
I am wearing PoaL and loving it on this rainy cool day.
Back to read comments later.
You smell great!
Is it a favorite? I love, love, love that one.
It’s become a favorite since I have been on a rose kick as of late.
You smell gorgeous!
Thanks!
Smelling fancy is POAL!
And that should be “in POAL”! Sheesh. 😖
Thank you!
Meant for hajusuuri. Lol
But in general thank you to all!
Late to commenting this evening. I’m in Hiram Green Arbole Arbole from a rehabbed syrupy decant. I may wear Hiram Green all week. The powdery drydown is special, but it’s not love. Thankfully. 😳
Late posting but apparently I instinctively knew it was Iris Day before reading Robin’s post because I started out the day in O, Unknown!
No iris for me. BUM
Wearing Micallef Vanille Marine and loving it.
