Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit and happy May Day! (And a quick PSA: I have temporarily disabled new user registrations due to spam. I will put it back when I can; meanwhile, if you want to join in the conversation here you are welcome to email me and I will get you all set up.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando but in my mind I'm wearing the May-Day-appropriate dab of Diorissimo.
Reminder: on 5/5, we're doing Scarborough Fair Friday. Wear a fragrance with parsley, sage, rosemary or thyme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: The Rabbit Nature ("The Rabbit has a cute and playful look, and it is ideal as a decorating item in a living room, office or in a bedroom. The Rabbit is made of a mix of beech and oak wood, and comes with a leather string for hanging.") from Oyoy is €25 at KID in Dublin.
Cartier Rivieres Insouciance, lots of iris but I also get freshly cut grass. Perfect for a day at the nursery uptown as I am buying some plants for my balcony.
Aida was a hit with my daughter last night. Though she said the end was boring because she knew they were going to die (because she read the children’s book Aida based on the Opera) She loved Amneris -that was her favorite character.
I haven’t been to the Opera in 12 years or so but the ambiance has changed. I know now, there is no dress code, but I think there should be. Standing next to someone who is dressed in sweats and a jumper is low brow.
oh and Rabbit x3
It *is* nice when people get dressed up for big-deal events like the opera: I did the one time I ever got to go to the Met (Turandot, November 7th, 2009, I remember it like it was yesterday). It makes the occasion even more special. But it’s also nice that people get to go to the opera at all, and I honestly can’t judge them much for simply wearing whatever they happen to have. (I agree that sweats are not really making enough of an effort: most people have at least one decent pair of trousers. But at least it wasn’t shorts and flip-flops. Then I would be judging the heck out of them, because that’s less than zero effort, that’s a deliberate statement.)
I would think that opera houses are not in a financial position to be turning away paying customers, anyway, no matter how they’re dressed.
I think it’s great your little daughter loved the opera! She’s very sophisticated 🙂 It will be a nice memory for you two to share 🙂
I have a lot on at work so it’s Eau d’Hadrien for the win for me-makes me feel like I tried, and never gets on my nerves. I really love this scent 🙂
So glad it was a hit! I’m with you on a dress code.
LTSG-
I did buy the Nest candle you suggested. It smells so good. Will be good for the cooler months. Thanks.
It has been cool spring here. I should burn it while I am home reading. I am glad you like it.
Yes, it has here too. I probably could use it now.
So glad she enjoyed it!! What a great start to a lifetime of delight in the theater. As my mother would say, just because someone else does not care what they look like, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look your best! Still good advice…oh, and smell good, too.
So cool your kid enjoyed Aida!
I went to see the ballet Swan Lake a couple of weeks back. Also very varied outfits around me.
I’m so glad you both had a good time. When I was little, my mother took me to Chicago for plays and concerts, once to the opera, and I was able to do the same with my daughter. It builds an appreciation for the arts that’s lasted a lifetime.
So glad you had a good time at the opera with your daughter, I like Insouciance very much, you smell great, waiting for really warm days to wear it.
So glad she enjoyed the opera! I miss living in a city with a decent opera — Aida would have been lovely.
The dress code around here was always decidedly mixed, but it has gotten worse since COVID. But, given the state of the arts in my city, as long as they bought a ticket and showed up, I’m happy. Audiences have gotten a lot more casual in their listening habits, too, and my jury’s still out on that. It was pretty funny, though, when someone in the balcony yelled “Let’s rock & roll” right before Rite of Spring at the symphony a couple of months ago. 🙂
It’s wonderful your daughter enjoyed the opera, and she shows good taste liking Amneris, who has some of the most beautiful music there is. I remember listening to that opera on disc with my grandmother and we both sobbed at the ending.
I know what you mean about the dress code. It’s funny in Houston you will see everything from very well-dressed women with furs (in what passes for our “winter”) and then guys in jeans with cowboy boots.
I quite like it that there is a mix of clothing at the opera. I remember going to a couple of performances in Geneva ( free tickets) where everyone was dressed in long gowns, jewels and dark suits and feeling ill at ease in their company whereas at the Met or Sydney Opera House there was always a nice range of outfits from formal to tidy-casual that felt far more inclusive. Glad it was a hit with your daughter!

This looks like a great exhibition at the NY Historical Society

When I was in high school, my parents bought us season tickets to our local opera for several years. It’s a small city, so the performances were hit or miss. But one thing I remember was that I always wore the same dress (the black gap dress that Sharon Stone wore to the Oscars in the 90s), as did every other woman who sat near us! We each had one opera dress.
My favorite opera experience was when my parents took me to the Santa Fe Opera. That open-air auditorium and the incredible singing still haunt me. I really want to go back in the next few years.
That is a beautiful memory. I hope my daughter has the same. My son is into 🎶 – so I am taking him to the philharmonic.
Happy to hear that your daughter enjoyed Aida.
But may I play Devil’s Advocate for a bit? Opera and Shakespeare were the rock concerts and blockbuster movies of their day. The appeal was to a wide variety of people, not just the well-heeled. I can see how a very formal dress code could exclude some people who might be very enthusiastic about those things.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit. Today I felt like wearing TF Lost Cherry. I love that it’s gourmand(ish) without being particularly sweet.
Trying and failing to work up even a scrap of motivation to go to the gym, which is SO boring sometimes. My deal with myself is that I either go to the gym (which is in our building) or go outside, and I won’t be doing the latter, because it’s raining and supposed to rain more or less nonstop between now and Friday afternoon. At least that means it’s really spring, I guess? At least the trees will have leaves soon.
I go to the gym in my building too. What exercises do you do at your gym?
There are three cardio machines — treadmill, elliptical, recumbent bike — plus a rack of free weights and one of those weight machines that has about a dozen different exercises with a weight stack. I do weights a couple of times a week and at least half an hour of cardio every time I go, choosing one or two machines at random. It’s not very interesting, but a podcast makes it more bearable. I wish there were a rowing machine and a step-climber of some sort, though I guess I’d get bored with those too after a while, but at least it would mix things up a little.
You?
Rain here too all week. I take the stairs in the metro for my exercise program, been too lazy and apathetic to do anything else lately.
I’ve been going to the gym for a year and it is so, so boring. I’m amazed, sometimes, at how long it can take to reach the number “10” when counting reps. Like, I think , it can’t just be “4” after all that lifting, crunching, pushing, pulling …I swear numbers slow down in a gym. I do cardio then weights and resistance for shoulders, chest, arms, abs and legs…..I am stronger now but every time I think, “there’s another hour of my life gone forever”.
How’s your German going by the way?
At the risk of being master of the obvious (even that threat doesn’t stop me!)–I find juicy engaging podcasts or fast-paced novels the cure for the counting to ten doldrums.
I hear you on the exercise motivation (or lack thereof). Being stuck in goblin mode sucks.
In my soft cloud of Profumum Alba over Le Dix dusting powder, and wishing I had one of the apple-spice muffins that Costco used to make.
You smell lovely.
How is the Le Dix dusting powder? I’ve wondered about how well vintage dusting powders hold up over time.
It’s perfect. It’s vintage, of course, because Le Dix in particular, and dusting powder in general, aren’t generally available anymore. Mine came as part of a set (EDP, soap and dusting powder) in a very old and decrepit gift box from what looked like the late 60s. The soap didn’t smell like much but I tossed it into my lingerie drawer anyway. The dusting powder is in a tub-shaped receptacle and still had its paper seal in place, and it smells lovely.
I’m doing a week of Hermes Jardin. Today is Un Jardin En Mediterranee, which I rarely wear, mainly due to the prominent fig note.
I like that one, you smell great!
Adding a jewel to SpringPansy’s enabler tiara by wearing Ambre a Levres. Really appreciate this fragrance, since amber has historically been a difficult note for me, but this is neither dense nor baroque. Plus, practically perfume-math free at the Nez site.
I recently picked Ambre a Levres up and enjoy it too! Love the powdery iris in it. Love that it delivers exactly what it promises: lipstick on amber.
I have a tiara! 😀 😀 😀
w00t w00t!
Good to see you back, Robin <3 <3
Today I am in Chanel No. 22 EDP. Something really clicked for me last week and now I can't stop wearing 22. It is an austere older sister of No. 5. A cool beauty!
Weather got cold again here so I have been reaching for my heavy hitters. No plans for the CP yet, I think there is rosemary in my unswapped bottle of Di Ser Mizu, so I shall have to give it a second chance!
Over the weekend I sampled YSL Babycat (thanks MossyBerry!) and it smells just like Honey Oh's, my favorite cereal! A sweet, honeyed, slightly grainy/wheaty quality. I was delighted. It dried down into a gorgeous vanilla, very comforting indeed.
I need to try no 22. I think it’s a fav of lillyjo’s also, it makes me think of her.
22 is lovely! I’m making my way towards a full bottle and will save you a sample when I do 🙂
It’s so beautiful. I don’t wear it much because I hoard my sample.
Oh, I have been waiting for you Pfsh. I commented this weekend, but you probably didn’t see it. Received my three candles from Brooklyn Candle. Beautiful! I will report as I use them.
I am joining you in Chanel today.
Dear Kris, so glad to hear from you! So glad that you got your candles! They do look lovely on any desk, and I find that the double wick makes for a good clean burn. Excited for you 🙂
You get an enabler pin or three since that is how many I bought. 😊
I love 22 and Babycat, looking forward to my perfumes arriving in two weeks so I finally have access to something other than random decants.
YSL Babycat is on my must try list as well – it sounds wonderful.
Babycat is one of the best perfume names, ever.
🐇🐇🐇!
I am glad to see you posting again, Robin! I keep sending comforting hugs and thoughts your way!
Wearing DSH Perfumes Iris Tuxedo from a sample received from the swapmeet. Very nice scent, but it didn’t make it to the full bottle purchase list. I will enjoy the sample while it lasts.
Beautiful sunny, cool, and windy spring day after a very rainy weekend. Having my second cup of coffee with a dash of turmeric and a thin slice of chocolate cake.
Happy Monday! ☕️
I didn’t know chocolate cake came in a thin slice version 😉
Lolllll
Ha! Me either! 😆
Lol!!! I am not a big fan of chocolate cake, so I cut that slice from a cake brought by a co-worker. You can see the light going thru it! 🤣
Now that is thin! Lol.
😂
Ahahaha. Sometimes I have multiple thin slices. But just one? Hmmmm.
Your comment about the thin slice of chocolate cake sparked quite the entertaining thread! Thanks for the smile.
😄
Those bunnies are cute, quite IKEA-ish imo. I remembered my rabbits in the wee hours of the morning when it was still dark out.
I’m in the last of my Carven Le parfum sample. Even if it doesn’t feel like spring, I can at least smell like spring.
It was 40 and dreary on my way to work, with chance of snow! That’s down parka weather for me but I refuse. Warmer temps must be coming!!🌞
You are stronger than I am. I will be heading into work with my winter coat. I just saw a possibility of 70 for the weekend 🌞
Again, forgot the rabbits, but smelling good in Chanel 31 RC. I feel like I am at the opera LTSG 😊
Chanel represented very well today on NST!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yes, it is.
I wonder if it’s subconscious because of the Met Ball theme? I chose Chanel and only later connected it to the ball.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you 😊
I think 31 RC would be a great perfume to wear at the Opera! Wish I thought of that yesterday…
I hadn’t decided what to wear today until I saw your post on the opera and for some reason 31 RC to mind.
I have a sample of 31RC that I haven’t tried in a few years. I wonder where I put it? 🤣
It must not have impressed you if it has been a few years or you have a ton of perfume samples. Either way, I hope you find it some day😊
It was when I really started sniffing as many things as I could. There’s an excellent chance that my sniffer has changed since then.
🐇🐇🐇!
Happy Mayday Monday!
Good to see you Robin.
SOTD!
Chanel Misia.Classic makeup-ey powdery perfume.Love it.
I picked up my Hermès scarf at the antique fair and I am in love!!Gorgeous and pristine in real life…lol.I met the wonderful Lady Marmalade(the name of J’,the thrifter’s business) and she’s every bit as cool in real life as online.I made her two samples from my Kiss Her and Kiss Him bottles(yes, the rockgroup Kiss had some perfumes in the early 2000’s-ish)because she’s also into fumes and a big Kiss fan.She also gifted me the most delicious homemade salted-caramel-and-white-chocolate fudge that she sells, and it is DANGEROUSLY good!!
And then I spotted perfume at the fair….J B SCORED!!Vintage full bottles of Ysatis and Mitsouko, and I am over the moon! They smell devine and are in pristine condition!
It was a good day!
Hope everyone is having an awesome Monday!I sure did.
XO’s
Wow, what a fabulous haul! Sounds like a fun day.
It was, despite the gloomy Fall weather!
All of this post is awesome!
Thank you babes! You’d love the Ysatis,it’s beyond perfumey!!😍😍
Ysatis was my very first grown up perfume when I was 18. ( so about 8 years ago 😉) It’s GLORIOUS! Enjoy!
Wonderful!I’m still wafting the test sprays on my arm of Mitsouko and Ysatis.I refuse to shower tonight.#SorryNotSorry lol
You must be a few years younger than me, Ysatis was my second grown up perfume after Dior Poison. 🙂
Glad you had such a great time and scored with those two bottles.
Thanks Aurora!I think the whole day was a score!✌🏻😉🤗
Fabulous all around! Good for you. ✌🏼
Thanks!Indeed!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Oooh — wonderful day all around!
Yes!You would have enjoyed it too I think! So much local artisanal food and drinks as well.Fun fun.🤗
Wow! What a haul. And I love Misia.
Misia is wonderful! So at one point I was wearing Misia,Mitsouko,Ysatis, vintage Oscar AND First!Lol!(the Oscar and First was snatched from under my nose by another perfume enthusiast!)
Wow, big time score on the scarf, the fudge and the perfumes!
Who doesn’t love a good trifecta!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Misia is really nice! Of course..I want to see your scarf.
I should text you pics sometime!I think you’ll adore it as well.🌹❣️
I love a good scarf!
There is another one in the pipeline….even prettier, but my budget only allowed for the one this month…lol. She’s keeping the other one aside for me!🙈🙈🙈
What an awesome post, for a day to match! Bet that vintage Mitsy is to DIE for.
That all sounds great, but to me the most exciting part was the KISS perfumes! Can you describe them if you have a chance?
I’m between Penhaligon’s Elixir and Hiris this morning for my cp week of Robin inspired scents. Just went with a few sprays of Hiris – such a steely iris beauty.
Diorissimo will make an appearance later this week but would have been the perfect choice for May 1.
Oh be still my heart!Love Hiris!!
❤️
I have a little vintage Diorissimo to wear in springtime but I mainly just sniff it. As Allo said, it’s perfect for May Day but I’m watching a seemingly endless rain/snow mix falling on my neighbor’s blooming lilac bush and I’m back in a heavy sweater. So Chaldee it is, beautifully floral with that deep cozy base.
Perfect cozy choice😊
Both vintage Diorissimo and current(?) Chaldee sound wonderful.
I’m in Ashoka again and might be for the rest of the week. It smells green and natural and warm with a little fig and spice, incense and woods and I love it.
I’m getting ready for our first camping trip of the year, leaving Thursday for my birthday. Lots of lists — we always seem to forget something important on the first trip, maybe this time can be a first for remembering everything.
Hope your trip goes smooth! And remember to remember!🙈😉🤗
Haha: Always remember to not forget …
Camping, what fun.
I love camping! We have two trips planned for July and August.
Those are definitely the best months for camping here, but campgrounds get so booked up that we have started braving the weather for May and June. So far weather looks mostly good for this week. We are also going to the drier side of Wash state which should help.
What a nice birthday trip…
Enjoy your camping trip!
Every time I see the name of your SOTD, I think of “Star Wars” and Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi apprentice.
😀
I’m in a happy little rut (as Bob Ross would say) with Angel’s Share again today.
Spending the night on the Columbia again. So looking forward to getting out of town, even for a night. 🌲🌺🏕️⛰️
I just ordered some samples today and Angel’s Share was one of them. It sounds very nice.
I hope you love it!
I do too. Seems to get a lot of love around here.
CP-compliant with La Curie Incendo today. We had one day of warm weather over the weekend and now we’re back to cool (thankfully not cold!) temps…sigh.
Remembered my rabbits for the first time in a while!
The always early white lilac across the street is beginning to bloom. Heavenly fragrance.
Dior Homme Intense today, good for this spring weather with a cool breeze, and tonight Lentheric Just Musk, a cheapy I like as much as Kiehl’s original musk, they are not alike.
So good to hear the Lentheric brand mentioned. They were a big brand over here in the 80’s.My Mom used to love and wear Mystique!
They’ve remained popular here and I have a mix of current and vintage ones, what a nice memory of your mother.
I have a vintage love in Lentheric 12, a chypre that isn’t in any of the data bases but is often seen on Ebay. Is Just Musk currently available? I’ve never heard of Mystique; I think Tweed is still being made and I like it, too.
Tweed! I remember having this eons ago!
Yes, Just Musk is now produced by Mayfair and has remained so cosy, the Lentheric scents have remained popular in the UK, I haven’t heard of Chypre 12, I bet it’s great but I have vintage Tweed parfum de toilette, I think it must be their most famous, it smells wonderful.
Love coming across the smell of lilacs “in the wild”.
It’s such a treat.
So glad our lilac are not blooming yet, they’d be drowned out by all the cold rain. The local magnolia tree is starting to bloom nicely though. No smell, just pretty flowers on a bare leafless tree. I’m not wearing anything yet as I’ve been working all morning on a home project, but will go with Amber Absolute after a hot bath.
I just came back from the nursery and bought all sorts of plants. It’s been so rainy and wet I am thinking all the cold rain I should leave them inside. Do you believe we have a nursery in NYC? With chickens lol
How funny about the checkens! We have nurseries in Montreal too, but no chickens. Normally we plant at the end of May to avoid any bad weather surprises.
the spring has been on the cool side. I think I will wait it out like you do, or maybe place the plants on the balcony but close to the wall away from the elements. Like a true book nerd-I bought a book about container gardening-I got lots of great ideas!
Our magnolias in Seattle don’t really smell either – just a little fresh scent. I wonder if it’s the southern magnolias that have more scent?
If I come across a “real” magnolia in New Jersey, they are a white floral with a hint of lemon. Not as funky as citrus blossoms. But those only survive in sheltered areas around here, or the occasional hot house/arboretum. The pink and purple tulip magnolias are much more common.
Our spring has been annoying – it’s lovely during the week but we’ve had at least one day of soaking downpour per weekend for the last 8 weeks! Our garden is well behind schedule because we don’t want to plant in a mud pit. Or get drenched shopping for plants and then planting.
Sampling AEOOJ from Chris Rusak which has quite a bit of pine.
Today will be my first day of class. A good chunk of my classes this term are online but at least tomorrow’s classes (point location and theory) are in person. So excited to be back in school
Good for you!
That’s awesome! Enjoy your classes – it is fun to be in a group of people working towards the same goal.
Yay – enjoy!
Huzzah! Hope that your classes go well.
Hooray for school! I hope you have a great experience.
Glad to see you posting again Robin! Wearing copious amounts of Mitsouko EDP today. Wasn’t quite up for the vintage stuff but wanted the comfort of something familiar.
How old is your Mitsouko?
The bottle I am wearing is from about 10 or 15 years ago. I can’t believe that I forgot about Mitsouko.
Thanks!
I forgot my rabbits again. Hope someone can loan me some. We have beautiful weather now but it’s supposed to get hot (90’s) and humid later in the week. Ugh. Summer is close upon us.
Today I’m wearing my beloved La Ravissante from MDCI. It’s a pretty heavy-hitter and I’m not going to be around people much if at all today so it’s a good day to pile it on. Looking forward to watching coverage of the Met Gala tonight.
Glad to have you back with us posting, Robin. We very much missed you and it drove home how much you have done to nurture our wonderful community.
Sorry, I can’t help with the rabbits. I forget almost every month.
Please report on your favourite outfits and here are some rabbits….we have tons down here.
I can’t believe it’s Met Gala time again!😱😱
I’m currently reading Thomas Hardy’s Mayor of Casterbridge and although it is set at the other end of the country to Scarborough Fair it opens with a fair, the dramatic scene involving the hay labourer selling his wife to a sailor. The whole novel is interesting for its list of rural occupations and tools, and meals, and clothing…so many lists of trades that now seem like historical relics of the past. I am really enjoying it. I was drawn to the book by a recent article which was observing that novels like this ( and Dickens) didn’t feel obliged to fill in a character’s “ back-story”…so characters could be villains without a whole unfolding of “why and what happened to them”. Wearing Epidor. My thoughts are with you Robin.
Interesting choice of one to read or re-read. I haven’t tried re-reading much of any Hardy over the years but perhaps ought to. We read some of. his works in high school here (or used to) and I just don’t think that they can be grasped at that age.
In honor of the lilacs blooming here I’m in Désarmant by La Parfumerie Moderne. I wish this one was still available to buy in the US. I may wear another lilac perfume or two this week, but I’d also like to participate in the CP. Over the weekend I wore Lilac Dream by Marissa Zappas, which is very nice but fleeting.
Desarmant is my favorite lilac. You smell great!
Belated thanks! We have great taste. 😀
Dang – I always forget to Rabbit!
Wearing Trish McEvoy n9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk. I’ve really scooted through this one since Christmas when I bought it for my husband to give to me. There’s about 1/3 left! This is unheard of for me, I am a super small sprayer. But I keep it at my desk at home and go nuts – maybe up to 20 sprays a day sometimes, 3 or 4 at a time throughout the day.
Been thinking of you Robin, and your family. I am so glad you have your support system in place, and know that you and your family are in my and my family’s thoughts!
Don’t feel bad. I think I have remembered the rabbits once.
I forgot today, too.
Thinking of you and your son, Robin.
Today I am wearing Harvest Mouse. I only have a dabber sample but the scent has grown on me. I am thinking about splitting the Zoologist box of five travel sizes for the Splitmeet. Would there be any interest in that? I’d get Harvest Mouse but that would leave four other slots to fill.
I’m open to it. I’m behind on their scents and haven’t tried some of the latest ones, including Harvest Mouse. I liked Chipmunk but didn’t buy any. Absolutely no Squid for me however! Ugh!
I would be interested only in Bee.
Sorry, that was for Foxbins.
I would be interested only in Bee.
I would love Cardinal if you still have a spot. I may need to ask you to mail it to me in June. Thanks.
Wonderful to see you, Robin. We’re all thinking of you.
Wearing Arquiste L’Etrog, purchased at my weekend visit to Ann and Indigo Perfumery in Cleveland! Ann was very kind and let me spend almost two hours sniffing and taking notes. She also mentioned that this October will be their tenth anniversary of the shop.
I’m really enjoying the L’Etrog so far: sweet but with a sharpness. Reminds me very much of TDC Bergamot. Also came away with a bottle of Masque White Whale.
You’re so lucky! I met Ann the year she opened Indigo!
The biggest hug to you Robin.
In Epine de Rose, which has been surprisingly divisive in the recent sniffer events I’ve hosted. Loves and hates! When I blind test it against other rose perfumes I own, it usually comes out first for me. But, is otherwise not terribly distinctive–I thought. But folks with far less interest in perfume than I have have had strong reactions to it, for and against. Curious~
In other news, in the swap I received lovely decants from an NSTer, all of which lost their labels due to a minor leak in one. I have three that are left that I cannot for the life of me decide which is which. Good thing I don’t rely on my nose and declared perfume notes for my day job! I sort of think one of them could be x, but then immediately doubt myself.
Also forgot the rabbits this morning. But at least the rain has stopped! I actually saw blue skies for part of the day; however the clouds returned for the afternoon.
Spent a couple of hours caramelizing onions for a dish that I will make tomorrow. I feel oddly accomplished having done it.
SOTD = Voleur de Roses again. Thunk!
That must’ve been a lot of onions and your house must have smelled incredibly good! Now please tell us what dish you’re making tomorrow.
4 Vidalia onions were cooked down to golden brown yumminess!
The name of the dish is “Campfire Casserole”. The original recipe was simple: 1 lb ground beef, 1 can of black eyed peas, 1 can of corn, 1 packet of taco seasoning, and 1 cup of shredded cheese. Brown the meat and drain off the oil. Open the cans and drain the corn. Add the beans and corn to the browned meat. Add the taco seasoning and mix well. Then add the cheese and mix until everything is combined. Serve.
I have made a LOT of changes, including the addition of the sauteed onions and swapping out black beans for the black eyed peas. I also have a secret spice mix that I add in.
So, I haven’t chopped onions in forever and I am not into beans or black-eyed peas. Any suggestions for substitutions?
The onions are very much optional, so feel free to skip those.
How about chickpeas?
Or maybe small chunks of cooked sweet potato?
I have all these ingredients. I am going to try it.
I admit to never having actually caramelized an onion though.
Try the original recipe first. You might like it fine without the onions.
I want to know what dish you are making too!
See above! 😉
The recipe can be spiced up or down according to one’s taste. I have put chopped fresh jalapenos in a few times, when I remember.
Do tell!
Details above. 🔼
Infused oils are great for this recipe when you are cooking either the onions or the ground meat. It’s rather forgiving, unless you flat out burn something!
Thanks. I suppose it wouldn’t surprise you that I once melted many forks and spoons in boiling them? I should have taken them out after one boil but I didn’t 😣
Boiling forks and spoons?
Glad you’re having good weather and that rain was good for nature. Oh caramelized onions, my great grandmother used to make onion soup which was divine.
It was a very wet weekend here. Some places got between 3 to 6 inches of rain over 4 days. The latest drought monitor measurements will come out on Thursday, so we will see how things changed then.
French Onion soup is a favorite treat for me in restaurants. It’s been ages since I’ve had some.
Scents of Wood Plum in Cognac 🥰
Sending you strength and plum-scented hugs, Robin.
You smell wonderful!
Thank, it’s a great perfume. I am new to this house and got a couple samples a few weeks ago but am hooked. 😉
Curious what your favorites from this line are please?
I love Scents of Wood too. So far I have Sandalwood in Oak, Vanilla in Bourbon, Praline in Maple, Cypress in Oak, Oak in Oak (in the big bottles) plus a bunch of the 10ml travel sprays: Leather in Cognac, Patchouli in Rye, Neroli in Acacia, plus a few more that I can’t recall (I am doing this from memory as I don’t have my perfumes yet here in Montreal).
Yes, I have been impressed w/ the ones I have tried and will get some more.
I also sampled Cashmeran in Cognac and enjoyed that one.
I keep sampling new houses and find many to be duds but it restores my faith when I come upon a “good” one 🙂 and conveniently justifies the never-ending pursuit. 😉
Rabbits? I’ve remembered them maybe once since 2016. Perhaps one day…
I’m in No. 5 L’Eau today. I had this vague “I need to wear Chanel” feeling, so I did. Later I realized it was because all the Met Gala coverage influenced me. I got 4 compliments today, so obviously I picked a winner.
I’ve been taking a break for a bit because I’m on a serious no-buy and you all describe perfumes so delectably that I want to try and buy! But I missed the community. Robin, thank you so much for creating this glorious space. I hope it can bring you comfort as it has comforted me through hard times.
I’m on a No Buy as well, so we can keep each other company.
Snelling great and nice to see your post, sistine!
..ooof, that’s “smelling”! Silly autocorrect.
Happy to see you sistine.
If it helps, I can describe all the perfumes I don’t like. There’s plenty!
Please, start! I broke my “no-buy” and I need to go back to it asap!
Wowee! You smell great in No.5 L’Eau!
A lot of Chanel wearers today. You are wearing one of my favorite ones!
Jessica McClintock: my go-to LOTV that I save for special occasions.
You smell beautiful.
Robin, so glad you are here.
Wearing Lilacs in the Snow by a company called Carter + Jane. It’s quite nice. I mean, it’s not En Passant or anything, but most enjoyable and long lasting as it is a rollerball oil.
I forgot the rabbits, but they are definitely all in for May Day/Labor Day – two were cavorting (NOT “cavorting,” just chasing each other, no doubt in anticipation of cavorting) on our front stoop the other evening. There will be rabbit rabbit rabbit in the coming weeks no doubt.
Third day in a row of vintage No 19, thanks to a most excellent chypre swap. It’s everything everyone promised. I wish it weren’t. I keep having those “What smells so good?” moments, followed by “Oh! It’s me!” Need to do a side-by-side with the original Silences to see if I really need to cave…
I like modern No.19 EDP!
Thanks for the tip – I shall certainly plan to give it a try. It would be nice to fall for something that wasn’t discontinued for a change!
LOL at the thought of bunnies boinking!
ahem, cavorting😉
I couldn’t resist the alliteration.
Today I’m wearing Phi Une Rose de Kandahar. It’s one of the many scents that I discovered here on NST.
Robin, thank you for creating and maintaining such a lovely place to land every day. We are keeping you and your son in our collective thoughts.
It’s in the 30’s and raining here, with a splash of wintery mix.
I’m wearing Alien Cuir for work tonight.
Yesterday one of my supervisors did something she shouldn’t have and today I told the store manager. I wrestled with saying anything because I normally try to mind my own business. In the end though, my loyalty is to him and keeping my job.
Whatever it was, you done good.
If it was sketchy, then you did the right thing notifying the store manager.
That’s not easy, good for you to do what’s right.
SOTD = Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche
Chanel represent! It is very very far from the Scarborough Fair.

I did my 🐇 🐇🐇!
Remember my issue counting the back to the office %: 60 in office and 40 work from home? I can see what people are chatting about and there are MANY MANY things wrong with the calculation. If I were a manager, I would need to trust the numbers because I do not have time to review, add, subtract, and recalculate. For crying out loud, managers may not even have their right group in their numbers and it impacts the whole group! Before they roll it out, they should have tested more thoroughly but apparently, someone used a shortcut and you really can’t when you’re rolling out something that has consequences to the employees who are “out of compliance”. JCA or JMJS – IYKYK.
Gotta wonder how many RTOs have been botched?
I was trying to keep track but I gave up because the recommended solutions were far ranging. Overall, it gets an F.
Perfect picture match!
You smell fantastic despite being far from Scarborough Fair! Good luck with RTO.
Rabbit rabbit to you too! And many ongoing hugs, Robin. My SOTD was Jonquille de Nuit, for a post about narcissus on my own blog. I’ll be delighted to get on board with Scarborough Fair!
Seven Caswell-Massey samples, thanks to Luckyscent’s spring sampler. I intended to do one a day but couldn’t wait.
I know exactly how that goes!
