It’s the last day in April plus International Jazz Day. We're marking the day with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite jazz artist and the fragrance that you think fits their music, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who has left messages of condolence. My son and I are doing our best but we’re really both mostly still in shock. We are very lucky in having lots of family and friends to keep us moving along.
(And for anyone who doesn’t know what I am talking about, I lost my husband last Tuesday night.)
I am going to try to get back to posting every day because routine is its own sort of comfort, but if I miss a day or don’t join in comments as much, please don’t worry, we are going to be fine eventually but some days are bound to be harder than others.
Hi Robin. I have just found out. I am so sorry. Hugs. I do not even know what else to say.
Please continue to be gentle with yourself, and allow all to happen in its own time. There is no right way to walk through this world, but know we are all by your side.
Glad to see you Robin and just know that along with your family and friends, you have a huge NST family that have been thinking about you and your son nonstop.
Grief is felt by everyone differently and at different paces. Take your time and we will be here for you when you need us. Take care my friend.
❣️❣️🌹
Glad to see an unexpected post from you today Robin. Sending thoughts of strength and support to you and your son. Hugs.
I am glad you hung out with us for a little bit today, Robin. I hope that whatever you read on here can bring you a bit of a giggle and/or smile. Still thinking of you.
You continue to be in my thoughts, Robin. I’m so glad you let us know how you’re doing.
Dear Robin, thinking of you. There are no right words, but I know that the absence of even wrong words is even worse, so let me tell you how very very sorry I am for your loss. Lean on people around you, ask for any help you might need, and take that help.
I am so terribly sorry for your loss, Robin. I hope you find peace and comfort from those loved ones you hold near
My heartfelt condolences to you and your son. Please know that you are loved and supported.
I’m in Angel’s Share today.
As for jazz, I love Candy Dulfer and Rick Braun who I saw live way back in the 90’s. Wonderful vibe at that concert. Everyone was so chill and happily absorbed by the music. Literally dancing in the aisles, along with RB who spent a lot of time amongst the crowds.

Robin, happy to hear you and your son have a good support system. Do what serves you best as you travel this road. Everyone has different coping mechanisms. All of us will be here to support you in any small way we can.
Scent Twins
👯♀️
This is new SOTD for me
Isn’t it great?! I have the travel spray as I bought it un-sniffed, but would love a FB to last me until the end of days. It’s getting a lot of live today. 😍
Love* 😆
In Mohur Extrait today, another chilly rainy spring day in Michigan. I am on a rose kick, sprinkling rosewater (which I had to correct, as stupid spell checker changed it to “tidewater” for no discernible reason) on my food and my linens. Really hope spring speeds up the process of being blooming and sunny!
Dear Robin, please do whatever you need to to take care of yourself and your family. I will be sending you a little healing energy with every spray and sprinkle of scent…
Rackum frackum Spellcheck! 🤬
Lol! When I first started working at the hospital, the bus I was able to ride for a while stopped at Rackham Hall.
I’m glad that you have the support of family and friends through this difficult time, Robin.
@cazaubon, Johano and MossyBerry I bought multiple bars of Ritter Dark Chocolate covered Marzipan at my local grocery store. They must know it’s my birthday because all the Ritter bars were on sale lol 🎂🍰🧁🎉💃🍫🍬🎂
SOTD LT Piver A La Rein des Fleurs layered with one of my essential oil blends I made to represent my three feline grandchildren 😻😹😻
Happy Birthday CM!
Thank you 💙💙
Wishing you a very happy birthday! (And great find on the Ritter bars–on sale, even.)
Mossy Berry said yesterday that her store stopped carrying them and that made me nervous 😬
I also got dark chocolate with almonds and dark chocolate with hazelnut 😂
Love t he hazelnut ones. I am going to look for the marzipan ones next.
I like them all!! They also have one with cornflakes!!
Happy Birthday and I can just taste that snap of bitter chocolate meeting the boozy almond goodness. I’m going to go on Ritterquest next week, to some stores I don’t usually visit. Our two regular stores always have several Ritter varieties but never the *best* one.
I really hope you can find them!!! They are so yummy and affordable too!
Happy Birthday!
Thanks babes! I couldn’t resist! When johano called you that it brought a smile to my face😻💛
Hahaha! She’ll always be my babes from now on!🌹🌹
👍😻😹💛
Oh my gosh! Lol, I love it!🤗
👍😻❤️
Happy Birthday!!
And yay for loads of Ritters’ sport!
Enjoy every morsel!🥳🌹🤗
I will!! And you enjoy too next time you have one which is hopefully soon🍫🍫🍫🍫
I’m all out,but I will make a point of getting some tomorrow,to enjoy and celebrate with you!🤗🌹
Yes let’s be naughty together 🍫🍫🍫
Happy Birthday CM 🎉🎈
Thank you ❤️❤️
So glad you got your favorite, best wishes on your birthday.
I did! 🍫🍫🍫
Happy Birthday!
Thank you 💜💜
Happy birthday! In your honor, I’m going to bust open my Rittersport marzipan today. My local store only carries two flavors, but luckily for me, one is marzipan. Sells out fast though!
Yum!! Yes I noticed too that they sell out fast! I think marzipan is harder to come by.
Happy Scented Birthday, chocolatemarzipan! 🎂🍫🌈
I find Ritter Sport chocolate on Amazon a lot. I used to see it at Whole Foods, but it has been a long time since I have found myself there. So who knows if they still carry it?
Oh thanks for that tidbit! Amazon is a good backup in case the supermarket stops carrying it 😂👍
Did you say you were ordering a backup case? 😉
Or Wegmans …
Happy birthday! I love marzipan Ritter Sport! Yay that you got some!
Seem to be a lot of us who are Ritter fans 👍🍫❤️
Happy Birthday cm8!🎉 Good to see you posting again.
Happy Birthday, CM8! I was just at Aldi’s on Friday and whenever I go, I think of you!
Happy birthday! Those bars sound delicious.
There’s an entire Ritter store in Berlin and it is AMAZING. Last time I was there you could buy test bars that hadn’t been marketed yet (and might never be), and of course there are so many flavours that you can’t get in North America, and they do all these seasonal editions…. I don’t eat much chocolate any more but I have such fond memories of that store and of Ritter Sport in general — it’s everywhere in Germany and dirt cheap. The (excellent) marzipan bars are a nice birthday present to yourself!
LOL on hitting the Ritter jackpot!
Good morning!
Robin, it’s good to hear from you. Sending more love and positive thoughts your way.
Perfume wise, I have been switching between Eau des Sens (an old friend) and Santal Majuscule (from the Swapmeet, with many thanks to Jocelyne), which is a new love. I’m wearing both at the moment.
As for jazz, I’m mixing three CDs at the moment: Miles Davis Kind of Blue, Oscar Peterson/Joe Pass/Niels Pedersen trio and Mingus at Carnegie Hall. They are all absolutely amazing!
Wishing you all a good Sunday.
You smell great 👍🏻
Thank you!
And I love Django too.
Robin- I dedicated my meditation to you this morning.
Today I am taking my daughter to her first live performance. I am nervous , she is only 8, but she has been asking, so we shall see. I bought the cheapest seats I could find so if she wants to go after the first intermission – I am ok with that.
I have been so very busy with the library. And also reading Mary Renualt
I will wear Angels Share today. Has anyone else tried this? What do you think?
For Jazz- I love Django
I’ve been obsessed w Petit Matin lately…
Just finished BBQ and off to watch The Last Thing He Told Me. I wonder what Jennifer Garner’s character would wear?
What performance are you attending? She will love it, no worries. Nothing like a live performance to capture attention, especially in a screen to screen world.
She has been obsessed with Egypt and wants to see Aida
Wow!
Love Angels’ share, but I had to give it a couple of wearings to really “get” it!
Really great one from Kilian, and I love the bottle.Enjoy the concert!🤗🌹
Ok- one thing is for sure- I am getting loads of compliments
That’s always a good sign!🙌🏻🙌🏻
I need to try this. I see a lot of people like it.
Angels’ Share has been growing on meas a love, I initially got it because I found a new tester bottle cheap. It’s boozy without smelling too much of spirit, sweet without being obnoxious, spicy but not too much, it’s a winning combination.
Aww, I hope she loves it! I took my college grad to see Lion King when she was 5. Time flies, we will be seeing it again this coming month.
SotD Natori Natori, the one in the purple window bottle, which is one of my favorite bottles. Looking over Fragrantica’s note list, I mostly notice plum, peony and amber, after the toned-down rose-aldehyde opening. It has an excellent, soft projection, which is saying something since I’ve been in various Muglers the past several days. 🙂 It’s really working well on a cool, cloudy Spring day.
I have an unopened bub of that. I love the scent, but the first bottle I had either lost all its scent or I went completely noseblind. Which is odd, because it’s not shy. You smell (if I remember correctly) pretty fabulous.
Thanks! Oh I hope you’re not noseblind to it. It really checks a lot of boxes for one like me who has loves in almost all perfume types.
You smell fruity great, I retrieved my bottle from the back of the cabinet and got a BUB recently.
Time for me to re-sniff the Natori mini that I have.
I need to find my decant of that!
Happy Sunday!
SOTD!
Kayali Vanilla,a favorite from the house.Aaaaand thunked the dual rollerball that had Musk and Vanilla,Musk was emptied eons ago.
So good to “see” you Robin, and I am glad you are surrounded by family and your son.
Sending another biiiig hug!
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🌹✌🏻❣️
Favorite jazz artist,Andreas Vollenweider.I adore his cross-over sounds,”Air” is probably one of my favorite albums. Also,Chris Botti….do I need to explain?🙈😍😍
Ah, another Chris Botti fan! For several reasons, right? 😉
Yes yes yeeeeessss!🤣🤣😈
Oh, I loved AV! Haven’t listened in years, I don’t know why.
Are you going to re-up the Kayali Vanilla, or move on to other scented delights?
Robin, my condolences to you, your son, and family. Keeping a routine and doing something to keep busy were needed distractions that helped me through times of grief.
Some favorite jazz artists of mine include Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk. A new favorite perfume for me is Diptyque Eau Rose eau de parfum which was released last year and I slept on it then…I finally tried it and I’m loving it and much prefer it over the eau de toilette one of the same name.
SOTM is Mediterraneo. Our weather has turned cool again after two rather hot days (80 degrees, in April!), which is a huge blessing because our A/C apparently went on strike during the winter. For jazz, lately I am a big fan of trumpeters Chris Botti and Till Brönner, and I highly recommend jazzgroove.org if you like to stream music on the internet. No affiliation other than being an annual contributor.
Good thing you discovered that your A/C was on the fritz before the height of summer!
I’ll say! Coulda been much worse.
I am going to check out that website
Very thankful for your family and friends Robin. If they have even half your kindness, love and caring, you and your son are in wonderful hands.
I’m commando today. Why waste it? After my snark and jokes about my husband’s whining over his bad cold, I got hit hard Friday evening. Spent yesterday feeling pretty bad. Better today but still a deep cough and now congestion. Unfortunately, our weather is gloomy, cold and damp. So getting outside is not an option.
Question: anyone here worn Gucci Guilty EdT? Specifically the EdT. It sounds good.
There are 2 versions of the Guilty line. The first ones came in a short squarish bottle. The second version in the tall rectangularish bottle. I think they are all pretty good but I like the first versions better because they are more perfumey.
I hope you feel better soon.
Sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well, LizzieB.
Hope you get well fast!
Sorry you’re sick!
Dang, hope you feel better soon! How’d he like the Film Fest?
Guilty EDT is good. Easy to wear, a little on the dressy side. Dries down nicely. I did get the EDP Intense version for better lasting power, but they’re similar.
I’m working today and you guys should see how terrible I look.
I’m wearing an old thermal shirt with a fleece vest and Ill fitting jeans. My hair is tied up and topped with a floral and stripped headband. Ridiculous!
I was running late so I grabbed Nuit de Tuberose from the purse stash. It’s an At least I smell good kind of day.
A fleece? I hope your weather is not too awful. Good luck for a quiet shift.
We always smell great no matter what.I’m in purple checked boardshorts and a white stripey t-shirt.Havaianas on my feet.I’ll milk Summer till the very last of it!
9:08pm.🌹
Joining you in loose yoga pants and a flannel shirt that’s at least 10 years old. Still commando and an afternoon of chores ahead of me, but I’ll pick something that contrasts my outfit!
Outfit twins 😉
Thermal shirt twins today.
I spent today gardening so my wardrobe wasn’t exactly chic, lol! Didn’t wear any fragrance while outside but my roses smelled heavenly.
Jazz: Chet Baker is a favorite.
Spent the morning strolling in the park, it’s still fresh but warming up little by little. I was wearing Y which was very satisfying and very fruity today, and tonight it’s Vanilla Diorama, orange liqueur.
I really enjoyed that Chet Baker film, years ago. “Let’s Get Lost” I think it may have been directed by Bruce Weber
Thank you Kanuka, grateful as I wasn’t aware of this film.
It’s available on you tube. It has a fair bit of Bruce Weber’s beautiful teenagers at the start but then it settles down a bit with the focus on Chet Baker and lots of cool footage
Good to know, thank you very much.
https://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/pied-shag
It was a beautiful autumn day yesterday, dark blue sky, no wind and golden trees and I went walking down the river to the sea, to the place where the pied shags like to look for fish at the edge of the harbour. They dive so silently that all you notice are the echo ripples on the river surface, and later they perch on concrete blocks with their wings outspread drying and heating in the sun. It’s an industrial part of town but so rich in wildlife. All the gulls were on the sunny side of the warehouse roof tops, where it’s warm. So noisy, clacking and screeching.
Wearing Abel Pause.
Sending love, Robin.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit, too.
Thanks for the rabbit reminder.
I just love reading about your walks.
I really liked Pause but it didn’t last long on me. I also liked Nurture and may get a bottle of that one.
What a beautiful bird
I am wearing Chamade and sending energy to you, Robin.
Monday morning already, the weekend is very fleeting. Despite all my new purchases, I’m wearing an old favourite today, SL’s Bois de Violette.
I have been thinking of you, Robin. It’s good to hear from you and to know that you have family and friends around you.
Robin, nice to “see” you and I am especially happy to hear that you have friends and family supporting you. We all want to be there for you, also, in whatever small way we can on this site.
I’m in Ashoka again and loving it. I like the classic jazz folks (Miles! Ella! Duke!, etc) but my parents played mostly classical music, so I think my first sort of intro to jazz was the jazzy rock of Steely Dan. Can’t Buy a Thrill was one of my first albums and I loved it.
I loved that album. As soon as I heard Reeling in the Years on the radio, I bought it.
♥
Watching more rain come down this afternoon. There were even a couple rumbles of thunder to boot. Nothing crazy, though.
SOTD = Voleur de Roses, from the Sample Stash and jepster.
You smell great, we’re expecting rain showers tomorrow, I was pleased earlier today that the reservoirs in England and Wales are full, a good thing as our summers tend to be drier.
Thanks!
I will happily send all this wet weather your way! I’m over it now.
It’s just been drizzle here. A possible wintery mix for tomorrow.
Us too! Boo! It will be May for the love!
Yuck for the possibility of the Dreaded Wintry Mix for both you and madtowngirl!
Flood Watch has been upgraded to a Flood Warning. Oh joy.
You smell perfect.
Doing ok?
I wish I would have found out about Voleur when L’Artisan had those 50mL bottles.
Mood today: Meh.
I threw caution to the wind and decided not to bring my umbrella into Home Goods. And wouldn’t you know it there was a clap of thunder and the skies opened up even more! ☔️
Yeah, it *really* opened up this afternoon, didn’t it?
What a wacky rainy day–glad you are enjoying a scent from me!!! Sending some fragrant hugs.
Enjoying it very much, thanks! I’m thinking it will be my next sample thunk.
Muchas gracias for the hugs.
Robin, so glad to hear from you and I’m glad you and your son have a strong support network helping out. And yeah, the shock is completely understandable, but that’s why everyone else is there — to help.
SOTD is Calyx; I was optimistic that some of yesterday’s warm weather would bleed into today, but no luck. Jazz — I like Miles Davis, especially when he’s pushing boundaries.
Gosh I love Caylx.
Tritto.
FM L’eau d’Hiver, yesterday *and* today, for the non-stop chilly rain we’ve been having in NYC. A longtime favorite that always brings back fond memories of early- to mid-2000s shopping and sniffing and blog-reading. xo
That is a good one.
I’m glad you and your son have support, Robin. What a terrible shock.
Wearing Dior’s Escale a Portofino, but think I need to take a bath and just get clean. For someone who loves scents sometimes I need to give it all rest. I do love the bottle, too.
Nice to hear from you, Robin. Its nice to have a routine or something to keep you going. Prayers don’t stop.
It is pouring here! I’m supposed to organizing, but that fell flat. Doing a few loads of laundry, counts, maybe?
Tried out a sample of Mario Shower gel I was given by a lovely Lush sales person. It didn’t smell like it did in the store, with that cola scent. I didn’t like it, but he was just making bunches of samples.
Pouring here too. Yep, good day for laundry. My towels are in the dryer as we speak.😉
Third about to hit dryer. One more to go. 👌
Whenever I need to feel I’ve been productive, I do some laundry. It counts!
I love that. Pressing a button and throwing a lump of wet stuff into something else you press a button on, well, that’s work.
I thought about being productive like that today, but that’s as far as things got.
Ended up doing a load of dishes instead.
Nice to see you Robin, lots of love and hugs.
I wore vintage Norell to my meeting this morning. It smelled great but had faded by the time I got home so I switched to Nicolai Patchouli Intense. Now I’m glad it didn’t get swapped, it smells really good….swap regret averted.
SotW has been Tam Dao.
This is one of the many perfume loves I discovered thanks to this blog and the SotD threads.
I know you love this one too Robin. I’ve been thinking about you and your son a lot over the past several days. Recently when I wore it, you commented that when you spray it, it makes you feel calm. So, I’m wearing it in your honor and sending peaceful thoughts to you and your son.
So. Much. RAIN today. Bucketfuls of it.
I wore my Secret de K sample today, and about five and a half hours into my shift, a guest asked me what i was wearing because they said it smelled like something they used to wear. I said i was shocked that they could still smell it; I thought it had faded by then. Guess not! 🙂
It was an interesting geranium. Never sniffed it before.
When all is in upheaval, routine can be a lifeline. Robin, sending you and your son hugs and best wishes.
Today I’m wearing Santal Kardamon, and I keep thinking it’s Monday because all day yesterday I thought the day was Sunday. It’s so odd, I have to keep reminding myself.
Scents of Wood Vanilla in Bourbon
My poor daughter was sick again earlier this week…viral pneumonia…hospitalized overnight b/c her oxygen was low. She is feeling much better and was back at school as of Thursday. Clinicians said very bad crud going around…stronger and meaner viruses…they suspected either adenovirus or human metapneumovirus which are big in San Diego county right now.
Robin, so glad you have support from lots of family and friends. I hope their love and help are giving you and your son as much strength and comfort as possible.
I’m glad your daughter is feeling better. My sister is recovering from pneumonia. It’s awful.
Thank you, lillyjo…yes, no fun. Hope your sister is doing well too.
Ugh, pneumonia is horrible. Poor kid.
Thank you, Jalapeno.
Oh wow! Speedy recovery for your daughter
Thanks, LTSG!
I wish you and your son peace, Robin, even if that takes a while. I’m glad to know you have a good support system.
I don’t know much jazz, but I do remember that wonderful jazz movie, ‘Round Midight, with Dexter Gordon. Just incredible. I’m commando today due to many hours spent outside gardening.
I loved that movie too. Especially the scene where he blew out the birthday candles without seeming to even take a breath or blow. It was incredible
Jazz: Sidney Bechet
SOTD: Been too busy to spritz running about today (in a good way!), but I have my Tubereuse candle burning now, and it’s pretty fragrant. My dog LOVES the scent of tuberose (oddly), so it’s a treat for both of us. 😊
Sidney is another jazz artist I like
Robin, glad to see you back albeit temporarily and that you and your son are getting support from family and friends.
SOTD = April Aromatics Vanilicious
Favorite Jazz Musician and Composer = Vince Guaraldi
Ah, I completely forgot about Vince Guaraldi! I was thinking that jazz was not a genre for me before you mentioned him.
Robin, so glad to hear that you are surrounded by love on all sides.
I’ve been thinking of you often and my cp this week is dedicated to the fragrances we share in common (because you inspired me to try them and the rest is history💕).
#1 Prada Infusion d’Iris
Jazz: Bill Evans
Robin, I’m happy that you checked in. Routine can be both annoying and soothing, depending on the circumstance, so I’m glad it’s the later for you.
I found a mini of vintage Paco Rabanne Pour Homme so am wearing that and pondering whether I smell the leather note that some have described. I’m going to bring it to a little perfume get-together later this week with two friends.
In Los Angeles, I am listening to the rain trickling down the gutters, the whir of the dryer, and the thunk of the washer, because like some of you others, I found laundry a simple way to feel productive this cool morning.
