It's Tuesday and the last day of the swapmeet. Also, National DNA Day, World Penguin Day and Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Lush Silky Underwear, which I do think is a clever name for a dusting powder (which is how the fragrance started). Tea at the moment is strong Earl Grey (Numi Aged Earl Grey + pinch of Harney French Super Blue Lavender + pinch of Upton Lapsang Souchong Imperial).
Reminder: 4/28 will be Clever Twist Friday...wear a perfume with a clever twist or pun in the name, or just a name that you found particularly clever. Bonus points if it actually smells good! Suggested by Akimon, who gave as an example Jimmy Choo I Want Choo.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Ralph Lauren Faded Peony Teapot ("Inspired by an East Asian block-printed batik fabric, Faded Peony's dense florals easily mix and match with Ralph Lauren x Burleigh's Garden Vine and Midnight Sky patterns to create an eclectic and personal combination that is perfect for everyday entertaining") is $165 at Ralph Lauren.
Finally, we are graced with some sunshine! Wearing PG Cozé, which is smelling fantastic. I doubt it still smells this good since I bought it in 2002 and has likely been reformulated or discontinued, but I will enjoy it as long as it lasts!
Sunshine here too, although cold for late April. Better than nothing!
I am surprised by which fragrances have long shelf lives and which don’t. Glad your Cozé still smells fantastic, and you’re right that it’s probably better than a new bottle.
Yay! Sunshine!🌞
Glad the sun is shining and I hope you can spend the day relaxing and soaking it up
Had a nice long walk outside, felt great! We are back to possible rain tomorrow and Thursday, one more day of sun, then more rain, but we’re going the right direction and I’m taking full advantage of every sunny day!
Glad to hear that you had a visit from the sun today.
I’m in another interesting aromatic fragrance, Corsica Furiosa, from a new large decant.
You smell fantastic PriscillaE!
Delicious!😍
Good morning fragrant friends 🙂
In an overdose of Iris Poudre and a black silk shirt today. Tea is Brooklyn Breakfast by Bushwick Teas. The maple yogurt I like is back in season. Life is good!
Packages from the swapmeet have been rolling in and it’s been making my days. So grateful for how sweet and generous everyone is! Thank you Robin and NST for hosting <3
I'm still waiting for allergies to clear up before testing the new swap additions properly, in the meantime I am stashing all of the pretty little bottles away like a dragon hoarding coin 😛
So glad you have packages already, that’s so fun!
Of course you smell wonderful! I am in Iris too, but another favorite.
Iris twins!! Perfect for the season 🙂 Enjoy your fragrant powdery cloud!
Mmm, maple yogurt. :-). I’m craving french toast with maple syrup.
Do love a good french toast with maple syrup! I shall have to pick up some bread and eggs this week, thanks for the inspiration 🙂
The Preciouses! (Read in your best Gollum voice.)
hahahahahaa!
Your SOTD and your blouse seem to be perfectly matched to me! I’m the same way about swapmeet spoils. They all sit in one place until I test them out. It’s going to be a fun week!
EL Knowing parfum, one of the great underappreciated chypres of the eighties, with the same golden haze that Mitsouko has (though you’d never confuse the two).
You smell wonderful! I will have to look for the golden haze next time I wear either. I know I enjoy both.
Ooh, I went ham on eBay a few months back and snapped up several vintage minis of Knowing parfum, the 4ml gift-with-purchase sizes they did. They were actually inexpensive, and so rich and dense I’m sure I’ll never need more than a few mls. (I also have the modern eau de parfum, still an absolute stunner.) Gorgeous, green/earthy/woody/rosy stuff with a warm glow. I love Knowing this time of year, when a chill is in the air but the earth is coming alive again.
Commando so far as I bolted out of bed at 7 a.m. when my spouse reminded me that I needed to enter the 8th circle of hell, otherwise known as Washington State Ferries summer reservations day. It’s 50 minutes later and I have selected an outbound sailing on two computers but the site has been “Processing” that for 30 minutes. Same crap every year — they never update their site to deal with the traffic or change their process to stagger it. This year, though, seems worse as i can’t actually book a sailing. Usually it lets you put in your payment info just as it times you out, but I can’t even get to that stage.
Probably will wear La Curie Incendo today. Not a clever twist on words, but a twist on my day, for sure.
ahahahahaha (I laugh crazily in solidarity). I too am sitting at my computer with the spinning wheel of death in the WA State Ferries reservation system. I can’t get it to load right –I can pick where I would sail from but not the destination and I can’t pick a sailing date. Then it told me I was about to be logged out and did I want to continue. ARGHHHHHH When will they move into the new century????
I’m going to need a veeeery calming fragrance after this. Along with my yoga.
Or a drink.😉
A little whiskey in my coffee maybe.
Yeah, the site pings back to the server every time you make an entry, which is probably what’s killing their servers. So when you choose “Anacortes” in the departure drop down, it calls the server to get the destinations for the next drop down. I say, don’t bother. Show me the full list and I’ll select the correct destination. I’m not going to choose Bainbridge.
This has been going on for YEARS, and it’s an obvious fix, but they don’t bother. GRRRR.
Calming fragrances are an excellent choice.
It does seem worse this year. And we have fewer working ferries as well. 🙁
I hope you got your reservation! It took me 2.5 hours with three computers open, but I finally booked it.
SOTD is Smell Bent Incensed. 🙂
Yes, success at last. About three hours here with lots of spinning wheels. And now I get to call our local social security office. What a fun day!
Ugh…sorry about that. I hope you’re in a very comforting SOTD and can get to that yoga!
Wow, that sounds incredibly frustrating and stressful. Best of luck!
There is nothing in modern society that a computer can’t make worse, it seems.
Aw, RIP Harry Belafonte.
https://www.npr.org/2023/04/25/516446742/harry-belafonte-dead
I was sad to see this. RIP Harry.
He was class itself and I loved his voice, he spanned almost a century.
A Legend.
I’m in Carven Le Parfum. Enabler pin to Robin for posting a link to the post on 5 pretty perfumes for spring last week. I immediately ordered a sample, and it is indeed pretty. Also got a sample of the L’eau which lillyjo wore recently.
I had the dreaded middle of the night insomnia last night. I was sleeping SO soundly when my alarm went off that I woke and was instantly discombobulated like who am I, where am I, what time is it, what day is it?!🤪
Sipping a latte to help.
I’ve been having a spate of unpleasant dreams that wake me up in the middle of the night. Ugh and wtf? Hope you get a better night tonight.
I hate that. Hope we both sleep better tonight!
So glad you liked it! I am always surprised I don’t see it mentioned here more often, although Carven does have really crappy distribution in the US.
Wishing you an excellent night’s sleep tonight!
Thanks!
It’s really nice! I kept getting subtle whiffs of it all day and realizing it was me that smelled so good!😀
Bletch on the middle of the night wake up! And double bletch on the morning’s discombobulation!
Yeah, it was really weird. I never wake up with a feeling of panic like that.
I have, a few times. It sucks hardcore.
Amyris Homme
Busy week at the library
Which is better than a busy week almost anyplace else!
yes yes
We are celebrating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare and currently we have all our our first folios out.
Oh how cool! Wish I could see it.
Testing out Trayee today. Smells like a cross between Avignon and Frapin 1270.
I have a travel size of that one and love it! Do you like it? Or do you prefer the two you mentioned?
I just have a spray sample. I think I need another wearing to make a decision.
Participating in a health fair for the Alzheimer’s Association today.
Wearing Splendiris-a pretty iris.
Oh nice!
I am wearing Calypso from the swapmeet and looving it so much. Powdery clean gorgeous rose. A new discovery for me.
A very busy day at work.
The Piguet, I assume? Glad you love it.
Three hours sleep last night. I’m wearing Carolina Herrera because there is nothing like a blast of tuberose to wake me up. Unfortunately, in my sleep-deprived state I broke the sprayer and now the bottle is not sealed anymore. I watched the bubbles move down the tube and into the liquid. I’ll have to decant it into something else and use it up quickly now.
I hope you get better sleep soon.
Oh dear! Maybe a nap?
You smell wonderful, and I hope you catch up on your rest soon. Regarding the sprayer incident, do tell how you get the perfume out of the bottle. Does one just grasp the stem with pliers and pull it out?
Hope the sandman makes a stop at your house tonight!
Ugh, we were terrible sleep twins last night. Fingers crossed that at least one of us has a good night tonight!
I’m wearing SL Un Voix Noire, from the swapmeet, and I love it. I’ve never smelled a real gardenia. I love the grape note at the top and if I were a chocolate bunny I’d eat myself.
Thank you, Robin and others, for organizing the swapmeet 🙂
You smell great, love that one.
So glad it helps spread the perfume around 🙂
Escada Celebrate Life from a Frangrancenet sample I purchased in a sample binge from their site. I thought it would be sharply fruity, but it is a powdery and more floral than I expected – in a nice way!
Now I am sort of thinking I need to revisit fragrancenet for a little shopping.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
Okay – sold out! Guess my timing is off. Probably better off just enjoying my sample anyway. I haven’t switched out my fall/winter rotation for spring/summer yet, and I probably won’t have much room for many more full bottles.
Well, there is always a visit to The ‘Bay. 🙂
Lol! Always!
The longer I wear it though the more I think that Chanel Allure EdT does the same thing but better. So saving my shelf space for the possible match in my next raft of fragrancenet samples I just ordered.
I really like the breadth of mainstream and niche samples available there. I don’t get to department stores so much nowadays, so having them come to me is pretty fun. I pass along everything that is just a like-but-won’t-wear and dislikes to my friend who has her own fragrance blog and is building her library of scents. So it is a true win – even if I absolutely hate all of them, they go to a good cause!
I’ve thought that too, that there is always a good home for a good deal that doesn’t make the wear-a-lot list. I was so surprised by what FragranceNet offers. And they are completely trustworthy in my experience. I’ve gotten makeup there before, too.
You get your first ever enabler’s pin from me! I did not quite make it to Sephora over the weekend, then I saw that the VIB sale was ending so I did a FOMO purchase. At some point over the next few days, or maybe into early next week, I will be the proud owner of a FB of Kayali YUM Pistachio. I will split it.
I just got back from my first ever mammogram! It had been postponed for several years due to procrastination and the pandemic, so I feel glad to finally get it done. Fingers crossed for a boring result!
I was commando this morning and might continue to be while making a bunch of decants for the swap meet.
Making decants has a way of perfuming you–I bet you won’t be commando for long!
Well done, hope you can choose a fragrance later on.
Yay for a health care box to be checked!
Good job, getting that taken care of! Hopefully you remembered to take an Advil or aspirin before the mammogram; it takes the edge off of the discomfort.
Numi Aged Earl Grey is one of my favorite teas. I’m currently drinking Harney & Sons Celebration tea…their new Coronation tea tin is pretty. Right now I’m wearing my tester of Jo Malone Mallow On The Moor and smelling very powdery and girly from it (not my usual preference). Later today it will be from my 10 ml bottle of Frederic Malle En Passant. I’ve been testing Baccarat Rouge 540 lately and is it just me or does it smell a bit like like pomegranate juice to anyone else? Might be a skin chemistry thing.
It’s such a good Earl Grey. It makes the others taste more obviously fake.
We’re having a rather fresh spring, but I have nothing against cooler temps rather than jumping into summer weather. The sun makes apparitions, there’s a little rain, a little wind.
It was TM Innocent today with its bright citrus, I certainly wear it much more than Angel, the other one I wear more than Angel is Angel Men. Tonight it’s another scent that has wonderful citrus in the top, Prada l’Eau Ambrée, It called to me after a long time and from top to drydown it makes me happy.
Hi house twin – I’m taking Womanity Eau for Elles out for a test and really enjoying it.
Waving back😀
Cooler Spring weather twins today. Looks like I will have about a week of temps around 16 degrees C.
I wore Prada l’Eau Ambree years ago. It’s a good warm weather amber, too.
So glad you enjoy it too.
CP attempt with Santal Majuscule as Majuscule means uppercase, large letters so it fits the all-caps sandalwood scent.
It was ANZAC ( Australian and NZ army corps) day here, a day of remembrance in Australia and NZ that references the landing and campaign at Gallipoli ( Turkey) during WW1, but encompasses all military operations and losses since. It’s a very solemn day here, with memorial services beginning at dawn…the focus being on remembrance for those lost rather than flag waving, and glorifying war. The Gallipoli campaign is also viewed as a key moment in NZ history, as an awakening of national identity , stepping away from Britain and empire.
You smell great. Did you have any anzac biscuits?
https://www.langbein.com/recipes/anzac-biscuits
No I didn’t … but this is a good recipe.
Thanks, that looks yummy!
Hello everyone, I hope all is going well for you! I’m back safe and sound from my trip, it was amazing and everything went smoothly. Now it’s my first day back in the office – back to earth with a thud.
I’m wearing one of my Paris puchases, which actually fits the CP – Diorling. My main reason for buying this, apart from liking the perfume, is that we both appeared in 1963 🙂 . It doesn’t smell as strong as my sample from a few years ago, but still very nice.
I have nearly a month’s worth of NST to carch up on, lots of bed time reading.
Welcome home!!
Welcome back!
Glad to hear you’re back and had a lovely trip with lots of perfume purchases!
Wonderful – so glad you are safely home and had a great time AND have new perfumes to enjoy.
Welcome back, and in addition to the perfumes you wanted, did you get any fun samples?
Welcome back!
Welcome home Gaynor! Shame you had to go back to work 😉
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
The idea of some Souchong tea sounds really nice on this chilly Maryland day. I’ll settle for some really yummy Assam from Two Leaves and a Bud.
The swap meet was fun, and thanks to all the generous swappers out there.
I’m wearing a few sprays of Cuir de Russie, for smoke and warmth today. Back out to the garden to buttress the peonies, which are leaning way too far down!
It’s crazy cool for late April. I might be back to chai tomorrow.
I’m wearing Dzing! which I think give me cp points — at least I think it’s a clever and fun choice for representing a circus.
Despite all my complaining earlier today (reservations on WA state ferry’s S-L-O-W and antiquated system and then calling our local Social Security office), I was successful with the reservations AND I talked to the nicest and very helpful person at the Seattle SSA office. So now I’m baking the NYT Earl Grey tea cake and then going on a walk.
Link to recipe (it’s so good and easy):
https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1021062-earl-grey-tea-cake-with-dark-chocolate-and-orange-zest?smid=url-share
And rather than the heavier whipped cream frosting that they show in the recipe, I’ll just be mixing 1/2 C confectioners’ sugar with ~ 1 Tbsp creme fraiche plus dash of vanill afor a thin glaze to spread on top once it’s cooled.
Yum, that cake, enjoy
Ugh, I loathe making phone calls. I’d rather get a cavity filled.
So glad the SSA office went well!
SOTD: A mish-mash.
Organizing perfumes has a way of scenting me.
Just ordered three beanies and a head scarf. I hope one of them works out. 🙏
Has anyone done PRP for hair? Does it work?
Hats are hard to find. I always have to have a chin cord-style. Hope one or *four* of your choices work! 🙂
Thanks, MossyBerry! I’ll keep trying more 🎩 if they don’t work.
I love hats, anyway. ☺
I’m in Eau de Outdoors right now due the SPECTACULAR sun!! I will add something as soon as we get back but right now we’re just soaking up the rays. 🌞
Got a call from the hospital yesterday, they left a voice message but since I don’t have connectivity unless I’m right by the ranger station, I didn’t retrieve it. Honestly, I figured they were calling to tell me my contract was cancelled so I didn’t bother with it until today when we did our little walkabout.
In the best possible The Price is Right “Come on Down” voice, this is what I heard: “Hi Deva, this is so and so from from staffing at such and such hospital and I’m just calling to let you know I have been ALLOWED to contact you and offer an EXTRA SHIFT for tonight! Please call as soon as possible and I’ll let you know where you’ll be working!”
🤣😆😂😹😜
Gorgeous day and I’m ready for a lovely scent. Im thinking Bengale Rouge 😍
AHAHAHAHA “Price is Right voice!”
I know, right? It was kind of …off-putting. 🤨
So they let tons of people go and now they’re calling people to cover their shifts? I honestly don’t understand how hospitals work.
If that’s the case, then it is severely effed up.
Exactly!
Lol! Let’s hope the next call isn’t Let’s make a deal!
Oh, I’ve got good deal for them! 😜
I wanted to wear Five O’Clock Au Gingembre for the CP, but sadly I’m all out. I think last year I finally used up the samples and decants I’ve gotten over the years. So instead I kept going with Smell Bent, this time in Incensed for its wordplay.
Would you ever get more of the Five O’Clock Eau Gingembre?
Yes, I want to get more! It’s on my swap wish list, and I may snap up a bottle before long
Splitmeet is coming…
Twins! I was quite incensed early this morning, too. 🙂
❤️ Hey twin and so sorry about the morning debacle.
SotD Womanity Eau for Elles edt. With the changes at Mugler and the seemingly wide-spread disappointment with Angel Elixir (though I’ve not tried it) I started looking around for certain Mugler scents in Thierry Mugler Perfumes and Clarins Fragrance Group versions. I never tried Womanity because I don’t like the bottle or the name! But knowing how many NST’ers like Womanity, I forged ahead. AAND I very much like Eau for Elles – great lasting power and scent bubble. Next up, Womanity edp. I keep looking at the bottle…well…
I actually really like the Womanity bottle, especially in 100mL. On me, the fragrance is a salty, lightly fruity and woody scent. It is definitely NOT a safe blind buy!
I’m trying to appreciate that bottle – it is very Mugler. I admire his overall style and love his perfumes. Looking forward to trying the edp. And *don’t* start the lemmings up with talk of 100ml bottles, LOL! I have a penchant for the biggest bottle, which has cooled as I began to realize how long a decant lasts! 😀 Have you tried the Eau for Elles, which I guess is the edt version? I love the strawberry note there.
I have some Eau for Elles, but haven’t tried it yet. The perils of having an embarrassment of perfume riches in the Sample Stash…
And the bottle looks better in person as opposed to pictures to me.
I like the Eau for Elles bottle a bit better, thought they are about the same.
I do not like the bottle either.
Jalapeno is right, it’s not a safe blind buy.
Have you tried Angel Innocent?
It’s still Angel but lighter and more berry present (IIRC) plus a nice bottle. I am also hunting for older Mugler.
No – thank you for the information. 🙂
I had a horrible night’s sleep last night. I tossed and turned until 2am. I must have fallen asleep for a little while, because the next thing I remember is seeing 4-something on my alarm clock this morning. I managed to sleep from 4-something to 7-ish.
Really wish I could have a “sleep do-over’.
Ringthing, here is the link to the kitty heating pad that my 2 cats use:
https://www.chewy.com/kh-pet-products-original-lectro/dp/54424
It comes in several sizes, so you can choose which works best for your guy Larry.
SOTD = back in Supra Floral. SO close to a thunk, but it didn’t happen today. Try, try again.
Ugh – I hate that kind of night. I hope tonight goes much better!
Thanks. It feels like my brain hasn’t booted up at all today.
Hope you get a full night and perhaps a lie-in with cats, I go to bed too late these past few weeks which means short nights.
Thanks Aurora. I am wondering if maybe I overdid the caffeine intake yesterday.
There has been some emotional upheaval lately as well. So that’s a contributing factor as well.
Boo, hope tonight is better.
Thank you Robin. Several NSTers seem to have had a bad night last night.
Yikes. I was thinking that I have some “remedies” for getting a better night’s sleep but it is eluding me right now. At least you smell wonderful!
Thanks! I should have been wearing Supra Floral last week. It seems better suited for warm weather, IMO.
At least my sleep isn’t garbage all the time.
I’m late checking in, thanks for the link! Hoping you get a solid night’s sleep tonight.
Glad that you popped in. The hot pad is heavy duty and water resistant, with a fabric cover that can be removed for washing, because pets & accidents.
I hope I get something resembling a good night of sleep tonight, too.
I hope tonight is better for you.
Thank you. I’m dragging right now for sure.
Hope you are asleep by now! If not, do you have any sleepy, decaf tea? Add some honey?
I can’t rest much either, so I’m not much help. I do tea, medication, prayer and some different herbs. I wear one perfume consistently to bed and that kinda signals it is time.
Also, I let myself get out of bed, now. After years of people telling me to do that, I just started and it helps.
Hope it is a better night.
💜
Not asleep yet; waiting until my usual bedtime. Can’t do chamomile tea since it makes me gag. It always has.
Breathing exercises help with falling asleep for me. Hopefully I will stay asleep tonight.
I’m in the ladylike powderbomb that is Balenciaga Le Dix, thanks to a kind swapper. It started out too sweet for me, but has finally calmed down to my comfort level.
I remember the powder in that one, and I have not smelled it in years 🙂
I was expecting *some* powder, but truly it has *all* the powder. So much powder.
Good to know! Powder is difficult for me, so I can avoid this one.
A very long day today and it is not over yet!
Wearing Arquiste Flor y Canto from a sample received from the swapmeet. Lovely!
Back to read comments later.
Happy Tuesday!
Are you feeling better today?
It was a better day for sure.
Hang in there!
Trying my best!
I hope you are resting by now!
Just got home from work. I will rest in a while.
Dang pl67 that is a long day!
Testing my latest blind buy bulls-eye, Jour d’Hermès Absolu. I’m generally at a 50/50 success rate for blind buying, but with Hermès it’s more like 75%. This one is lifting me to heaven on a fairly dreary day. It’s like a grown-up version of Tommy Girl, a fruity tea floral of pure freshness and radiance and optimism, but impeccably tailored and well bred. I love it! It’s not my typical style, either, which I think is adding to the love. I needed a good shake-up this week.
For Friday’s challenge I think my only contender would be Youth Dew, which of course smells as far away from either youthful or dewy as you can get without wearing actual birch tar. I like the theory that it was named ironically.
You made me laugh with the birch tar comment 🤣
Funny because it’s true!
2nd that!
Great take on the CP!
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers
So good, although not sure it qualifies for the CP. Anyway, yesterday was Chanel No.19 EDP. Both are great!
I went to a jazz concert at Rutgers yesterday evening. It was a replacement concert as my friend and I were supposed to go to a baroque concert tonight and then she realized she actually did not like it the last time she went. The jazz concert had 4 main segments, with the last one by graduate students – a big difference from what we heard from the first 3 segments. I’m glad we went! And the best part? It was free! I really don’t mind paying but free is better 🤓.
Darn, I left out my IG post —
https://www.instagram.com/p/Crekb10Ov5v/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
It sounds like a great time!
Glad that you enjoyed it!
You smell great.
That’s so nice to hear music. It just does something for your mental health. Glad you and your friend had such a good time.
Good evening everyone!! I am so happy as my swap package came in today. Now I am a proud owner of Myrrhiad by Pierre Gaullime and it smells JUST as I had imagined it. And I love myrrh. With the black tea and vanilla? Are You kidding me? It’s awesome!!
But I also received a lovely decant of Masque Milano’s Lost Alice. As a person who owns a few others from Masque Milano and a tea lover I was very curious about this once ever since it first came out. Well I read some reviews on fragrantica and some people called it boring. To me it’s anything but. The pepper opening reminds me of Tango of course, by the same house. But then it is just a very dreamy, well done perfume..do I get the tea with milk? Yes!! Carrot cake? Yes!! Orris root? Of course!! I suppose I get it all. Makes my mouth water… So happy to finally try (and love) this one!!
If I really love a perfume, I try and ignore Fragrantica.
Enjoy your new perfumes!
Lillyjo has the right idea. Fragrantica can be a good resource for figuring out perfume notes, but you are the best judge of whether a scent is FB worthy or not. Opinions are just that.
Lots of comments today – that’s so great! I’m in Sur le Nil from the swapmeet. Thank you, swapmeet partners, and thank you Robin, for continuing to host them.
I finally got all my lights working in my apartment today. It wasn’t really a big deal, I read downstairs in the clubhouse over the past few days, which was actually nice. Talked to people as they ambled by. 😉
Glad everything is working now!
Yay for having all the lights in working order!
I woke up to snow this morning. I decided to wear something cozy and chose Prada Candy Night.
Your snow will become rain by the time it gets to me.
It was a real wet snow so you are probably right about it turning to rain on the way.
Snow!!! Poor you. Hope you make it to spring and summer soon
Thanks Kanuka. Mid May is when I usually start seeing real spring.
