It’s the weekend! (And coming soon: the next damage poll, on 3 April, followed by the swapmeet on 15 April and the spring reading poll on 6 May.)
We’ve got 5 questions. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else.
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon?
3. What was your most recent fragrance disappointment? (A fragrance you were looking forward to but didn't like, or anything really.)
4. What’s blooming in your local area?
5. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — something delicious you ate, any new hobbies or favorite tv series, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything…
Note: top image is Double Daffodils [cropped & brightness adjusted] by Mike Beaumont at flickr; some rights reserved.
1. Chanel 1957. Figured I’d start Paris week early, and nothing says France to me more than the big three: Chanel, Guerlain and Hermes. So I’ll be cycling through scents from those houses this week.
2. Diptyque L’ Eau Papier. The notes sound right up my alley. I might have a sample winging it’s way to me as we speak.😬 I’ve had good luck with Diptyque. Has anyone tried it?
3. hmm…no real fragrance disappointments, but I did try a sample of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle edp intense yesterday and had to scrub. One spray on the back of my hand and it made me feel sickly. I can’t do the original either, same thing happens to me with Angel. Although I love the smell of both of those on others.
4. A foot of new snow.😏 The weatherman said today would be an alert day and we would get 3-9 inches. At dinner last night I (foolishly) made the comment that “maybe it would miss us.” Ahhahahahaha😂 jokes on me.
5. A local cookie food-truck stopped by work Thursday at lunch time. Their signature cookie was a chocolate chip swirled with brownie, sprinkled with sea salt.😋 As my daughter would say: say less. They were so chewy and delicious, I had two.
Vive le parfum!
🗼😁
You certainly are not going to miss the snow when it finally departs!
The weather gods around here are messing with spring — woke up to SNOW. In the PNW, in near-April. It was 60 degrees out two days ago, and my roses are very confused about what to do. I went with Alahiiine to cheer myself up, and Mr. G is out hunting bagels for additional cheer.
Meanwhile, my other poll answers:
2. New fragrance to test soon – the new Hermes, I think … although the new Regime des Fleurs Leather Petals sounds really interesting too.
3. Recent fragrance disappointment – most of my recent disappointments have been discovering that something I used to love isn’t doing it for me anymore (I’m looking at you, Baikal Leather).
4. Blooming locally – daffodils! And the camellia nearest the house has big buds on it … or did, before the snow fell. Might still be there, will go check on them in a bit. The cherry trees seem to have gotten the memo and barely have leaf buds — they’ll be blooming very late this year, I guess.
5. Something wonderful – in July I’ll become a mother-in-law! Or step-mother-in-law, if that’s a thing. Honestly, I don’t care what they call me — I’m just happy that the younger son and his intended are happy. 🥰
Wow! Congrats on becoming a mother-in-law! And also congrats on your son’s marriage! So happy for you : )
Thank you!
The weather gods hit me too, we are snow twins! Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!
I got an extra sample of the new Hermes when I ordered travel sprays, if you’d like it, it’s yours. Email me at p k wisdom (all one word) in the yahooland if interested.
You’re so sweet to offer — see response to LizzieB below. 😘
Funny, just cold rain here up north. But they probably did get snow up the mountains (they were under cloud yesterday so couldn’t tell).
Congratulations on the wedding!
Thank you, ockeghem! You’re in the greater Seattle area? I grew up there … long enough ago that just about every place we ever lived (we moved a lot) has been torn down now. I’d love to see what has become of one place in particular, basically a farm house in what is now the Kirkland megalopolis, but I don’t know the address so can’t look it up.
I’m in Vancouver, BC…so further north. 🙂 But I lived in Seattle 15 years ago, and yeah, I don’t recognize any of it when I go back to visit my sister.
Congratulations on the upcoming family nuptials and you becoming an in-law!
Thanks, J! It’s very exciting news. 🙂
1. SOTD: Odor 93 (Giuseppe Imprezzabile) by Meo Fusciuni
I am in my all-black mood. Nothing too bad, just feel complicated. I find black is a very versatile and expressive ‘colour’. So is the poetic dark Odor 93.
2. Most wanna try: Sottosopra (Arturetto Landi) by Cale Fragranze d’Autore
I am interested in it for a while, for its isobutylquinoline. I am waiting for a good price to blind buy it. I have also ordered several fragrances (three Moth & Rabbit, all signed by Mark Buxton; three Hiram Green and Nicolai’s latest Caravansérail Intense), which are supposed to come to me in two weeks or so (and, alas, my poor wallet.)
3. Disappointment (or, not that expected excitement): Montecristo (Delphine Thierry) by Masque Milano.
I was interested for its (infamous) animalic feature. And yes, it is very animalic. Yet, idk, I feel something is missing here. I don’t expect to wear it, but it is just not that, emmm… perfect?
4. Blooming!
Alas, I am in Shanghai, and we have almost come to the end of cherry blossoms season. But, who knows. We just experienced an almost 20-celsius-degree drop in one week, literally from summer back to winter. (Yes, Shanghai weather is often very changeable, but I am still leaning to blame it on the climate changes.) Maybe when the temperature climbs up, we will have another wave?
5. What is interesting?
After my friend’s recommendation, I am catching up with François Ozon’s films. Honestly, I am less triggered than my friend and I find some of his scripts too cliché; yet, cannot deny he is a very good storyteller and director, with many nice works.
(I just watched Oriol Paulo’s ‘God’s Crooked Lines’. Paulo is really good at these thrill/mystery works. Yet, this one is a little too tedious; I much prefer his former films.)
Happy spring, everyone! Love from Shanghai.
Happy Spring!🌷
Shanghai, what a great location, enjoy spring🌼
Hi Gno! Isobutylquinoline is not a word I’ve tossed about before, but now I want to get a whiff as well. 🤔 A quick google search reveals mountains and valleys in that one. The descriptions made me think of Le Labo’s Patchouli, but I haven’t sniffed it in years.
Which Hiram Greens are winging their way to you?
I think after I shower I may wear LPRN EdT again. It’s been sitting in a box for forever, so I will take it for a whirl this weekend.
I too would love to sniff the new Hermes, but I’m in a sniffing wasteland now so it’s unlikely. I’m debating a purchase of Nicolai Rose Oud. Got a sample and found it lovely.
No disappointments. I did buy Sunset Hour sometime back and was kind of meh about it.
Blooming? Surely you jest. It’s been snowing, decently heavily, since before I woke up. They had predicted around 3” of snow – we are likely at 6” at least with it expected to continue till mid afternoon. I had suggested to my husband that he and I go out to dinner last night. He wanted to defer to tonight. Oh well…likely we won’t be going out…

Ha! I almost posted a picture to Instagram this morning with that very song. My little vw is buried. I was just out shoveling and it’s bad. Wet, heavy, just yuck.
If SheriG doesn’t claim the Hermes, I will send it your way.
I haven’t *seen* you in awhile, but I was up in your part of the state earlier this month for a conference in Oshkosh.
Oh, please do let LizzieB have the Hermes sample! I’m still too on-the-fence about it, and sounds like she has fewer sampling opportunities than I do. 😁
Ahhh, that’s sweet of you. Yeah, I went from sniffing abundance to a desert…. I swear, if I had capital stowed away I’d open a small fragrance store here. Just niche. I think it could work, but it’s not in the cards….
Adorable!
That video is SO CUTE!
Wearing the last of a sample of TF Oud Wood. It’s nice if unoriginal, and there must be others just as nice out there and at a more reasonable price. Next sniffs: more oudy things. The Hermes violet did not work out, rats, and I’d thought a leather violet would be right up my alley. Their perfume SAs are so nice!
The mini-daffs are popping up, and the cherry blossoms are starting to get up to speed. In other enjoyable moments, a couple of friends from far away are getting back in touch via email, and we might even meet in person this year if travel works out.
Let me know which “oudy” perfumes you like. I am looking for a oud but on the feminine side…
Kurkdjian Silk mood is very nice.
Thanks! I will sniff that one out
I’ve already bought one! Feeling pleased if slightly embarrassed. A local perfume pal was selling Ormonde Jayne Muscat, and I met up with her yesterday, tried it on, and bought it on the spot. It’s not the oudiest oud, but it is feminine and extremely long lasting. (sniffs arm) Yes, still a little bit this morning…
Can you explain a little more the notes ?
OJ considers it “amberesque” and talks about halva and dates along with the oud, but I notice saffron and a delicate floral in the background. I’d said it’s an oud bouquet with a dash of spice rather than All Oud. It’s beautiful, but I usually suggest people sniff first no matter how much I personally love something.
And congratulations on your purchase
Thanks-
Would you say it’s on the feminine side?
I am looking for oud but doesn’t have all rose
1. Wearing Stash Privé by default since I’m wearing the same flannel shirt. The far dry down is an inoffensive white musk with a few flower tendrils. Not bad for 7.99, but happy it was cheap as chips.
2. No real lemmings as the moment.
3. Tried TF Bois Marocain a few weeks ago and disliked it. The the longer it lasted the more I disliked it. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed since I really had no expectations and I don’t really jive with the whole TF esthetic anyway.
4. I’ve passed some just-beginning-to-bloom trees in the past week, but last night we had a rain/sleet/hail dump so not sure what made it through that.
5. Ah, hate to be so boring, but the “check engine” light on my truck was completely innocuous!! Also, I went to a dealer in Astoria to have them scan it and can you believe they sent me to O’Reilly Auto Parts because the dealership didn’t have a 2023 scanner..?! And a good FYI is that most O’Reillys will do this for you, and translate the code, for FREE!! How did I not know this?! Good idea to have it scanned there before you take it to any mechanic, imo.
Also, spoke with Moby’s new parents yesterday and they are quite delighted with him, so we have planned to meet at the bank in Portland Monday to exchange money and title. 🙂
Yes! Auto Zone has same free service. A dealer told us about it and a friend has used them many times.
Oh thanks! Good to know 👍🏼
Glad the light meant nothing after all.
Thank you, me too!
Glad that the “Check Engine” light was a big old nothing burger.
I think my brother has mentioned the auto parts stores doing that code check in past conversations we’ve had. But it failed to make an impression on me at the time. 🙄
Well, unless you’re doing a whole lotta traveling around, I would think most folks have a regular garage in their hood. But for me, who somewhere else every five minutes, it’s really helpful to know. I know I can get a reader/scanner off Amazon, but we broke up..😃
My brother usually does his own repairs, even though he has lived in the same area for 15 – 20 years. Partly because he can.
Deva, my daughter sings the O’Reilly radio commercial all the time! Lol it’s one of her favorites.
Glad the engine light turned out to be nothing, and Moby’s well on his way to a good home!
Ack, that was meant to be a reply to Deva.
Thanks! ✌🏼
1. Nothing yet. Just smelling the coffee that was set in front of me.
2. Nicolaï Caravansérail, or maybe Fzotic Poof, but I’m a bit less enthusiastic after hearing Robin’s quick take.
3. Fzotic Corpse Reviver. I had high hopes, but it was a scrubber on me; turned nail polish remover-ish.
4. Daffodils and trees (just starting). But my winter cyclamen are still going, too. They’ve been through a lot this year, freezing twice and then coming back.
5. Something wonderful…hmm. We just finished White Lotus season 2, which was pretty darned good. Also last night Mr. Ockeghem and I started playing with ChatGPT a bit more and it’s just…not very good still. Hurrah! (If it’s a more recent topic, it’s better, but still the writing style is not very good. Hard to tell apart from the average undergraduate who writes at Grade 6 level, though.) It doesn’t work very well on more obscure people…say, Mr. Ockeghem, who fits their definition of “public person” just barely, but according to ChatGPT has acquired all sorts of new degrees and specialties, and also has taken a good decade off his age, or added five years to his age. 🙂
Well, it shows that I’m living under a rock because I have no idea what ChatGPT is. But, based the “chat” part, pretty sure it’s not for me. 🤭
Ha! Same here.
Does ChatGPT learn from the user? Can you overtly correct its mistakes? Can you train it like a robot?
You can correct its mistakes, and it returns with “My apologies that wasn’t correct” or “you are correct that…correct answer.” But it doesn’t seem to be learning very well. I corrected it on one aspect of Mr. Ockeghem’s background and it stated that correctly in subsequent versions, but then I told it he didn’t specialize in one area of his field, and even afterward it kept saying he did. (Mr. Ockeghem’s response: I have SO MUCH to add to my CV!)
But yeah, it’s probably learning, so I’m loathe to correct it too much. It says one of the main themes of my undergraduate thesis doesn’t exist, and places Renaissance music theory techniques in the Classical period (and gets wrong what the technique is, to boot). We’re not correcting that! 🙂
Funny thing — I tried just now, and the topic of my undergraduate thesis can be found immediately in a Google search, which directs to Wikipedia, and correctly translates the German search term I used to ID the right thing in English. I guess ChatGPT doesn’t search Wikipedia (or LinkedIn…it says it can’t return information on “private persons”).
My understanding is that the current ChatGPT has not connected to the Internet, and the training database was till 2019. For me, this model has some unexpected yet astonishing flaws. For example, it cannot do some basic maths; it cannot calculate the length of a string. (This is because the model is based on statistics, so it is formal and cannot understand the contents.) And, as you mentioned, it loves to go circle with you: when you say A1 is wrong, it will reply that ‘My apology. I was joking. The correct answer is A2.’ It is still wrong, but after you point it out, it may switch back to A1. And after several times, it will even ask you, whether you can tell it the correct answer…
My personal usage of the current model is more for writing development/polish and as a complement for pilot searching.
Yet corporations like OpenAI have improved the models a lot recently, and have established several cooperations in different fields. So I guess the training databases are booming, and will likely be much much better.
Oopsy, the time limit should be 2021, instead of 2019. (I don’t know why this number pops up in my mind. *facepalm*)
Interesting — I didn’t realize it wasn’t connected to the internet for data. It is kind of impressive how much it can do without that, and will be interesting to see what happens as the databases improve.
Good to know! I was actually thinking of a more rudimentary use for it at work to do contextual repetitive actions. For example, on a database where a certain % of rows that meet a criteria has a blank response, enter a templated text which is then customized with the name of the reporting unit and calculate counts based on querying another database.
That may work…I can only say that you shouldn’t use it to produce a history essay!
I’ve got a friend who asked it for her biography and it kept insisting she was dead. She died in several ways, either a plane crash or a mountain climbing accident. As if to make up for this though, it does always add “Her death was a great loss to the profession.” !!
This made me laugh.
That’s funny!
Yeeeek!
😂
I love ChatGTP-
One of my friends whom knows I love Proust will send my funny things like..write how Proust would enjoy his espresso and send it to me.
Hope others will chime in on Poof. I have worn it twice now and it’s probably doing to stay firmly in the “just like” pile.
One of those I love everything about it except the scent. It’s okay…. Mileage may vary.
Yep.
1. I am wearing vintage Nahema parfum.
2. I would like to test the new Serge Lutens fragrance.
3. I was disappointed with the new Guerlain Rosa Rossa Harvest, I was expecting more rose oriented version but all I smell are fruits.
4. looking forward to that first bloom of the season, nothing yet, only more snow.
That’s a shame about the harvest scent! Really makes you wonder why they bothered doing a harvest edition for that one.
1. No scent yet… lotsa grubby choring to do.
2. Want to try SL Ecrin de Fumee. I know the house isn’t what it used to be, but I’m still willing to sniff.
3. Disappointment? um, those Jean Patou lemmings didn’t work for me. Now I have all these XL samples to dispose of…
4. Blooming? Some daffodils, and the ceanothus is about to pop. Other than that, we got puddles and sogginess. And yes, another big storm due Monday night. $&^%$#&$#
5. Wonderful, huh. Well my favorite jewelry store is going out of business (not so wonderful) and the owner gifted me with a dozen salesman’s sample wedding/engagement rings which are just so much fun. They’re just chromed brass and CZ’s but they sure look like platinum and diamonds. Super sparkly!
Aw, sorry that the Patous did not work out for you.
1. Tom Ford Lost Cherry.
2. Diptyque L’Eau Papier, Hermes Violette Volynka or Un Jardin a Cythere.
3. Since I reorganized my perfume cabinet a couple of months ago, I have been getting disappointed with many scents that I love, but seemed not to be working for me anymore, like Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Toit and also Sur le Nile. I may still give them few more tries, before I decide if I they stay or go to the goodbye pile.
4. Forsythias, daffodils and crocuses. Flowering pear trees, crabapples and hawthorns will be in full bloom by next weekend.
5. Nothing wonderful happening to me lately, but this morning a bought from TJ’s several bunches of blue irises and fresh chamomile flowers. I made a very big flower arrangement that looks beautiful and has put a big smile on my face.
Happy weekend! 🌻
That flower arrangement sounds lovely! 💐
It looks very very pretty and it is quite comforting.
You smell nice. I am a sucker for gourmands. This may sound elitist but so many people are complaining about its price (on Reddit) and I really just want to tell them that they should avoid it as there are some other perfumes that may fit their budget better.
If the TF brand made something inexpensive, people would assume it wasn’t high quality and complain anyway. Lol.
Also, they do make quite a few scents in the travel spray and body spray form at pretty decent prices especially If you catch a sale.
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
People will always have a reason to complain. If I can’t afford a full bottle, I will look for either samples or decants, which always makes me very happy.
Tell ’em!
I go back and forth with Sur Le Toit. I will try it again this spring too.
I think that at the end I may rehome all my Jardin perfumes. There is something about them that has become annoying. I think my nose is definitely changing with age.
My nose has definitely changed in the past 10 – 15 years.
Buying flowers to feed your soul sounds like a wonderful thing to me.
Flowers are always very soothing and uplifting.
Jardin sur le Nil is one of those that worked for me years ago but no longer does… I wonder why this happens, though it’s probably just changing tastes.
It might be a change in taste. I am still debating about Mediterranee. I think that is the only one that will stay in my Jardin collection.
1. Sampling Oriza Legrand Vetiver Bourbon. Smooth, unisex, soft but spicy and delicious.
2. Can’t wait to try the new Pierre Guillaume Costume Liquide, but it seems to be an online-only exclusive on their website right now…
3. Hiram Green Shangri La. Beautiful, but the clove note ruins it for me
4. Nothing yet. Crocuses soon.
5. I bought a miter saw in anticipation of getting into a new woodworking hobby! I have so many things I want to try, but I don’t know how to do any of them LOL!
Oh, and I’ll be going to Cleveland next month and I plan to visit Indigo Perfumery. Has anyone been there before?
Oooh, do report back! I’m going to Cleveland in late April.
Oh, that sounds like a fun hobby though, and you will learn of course! Are you going to take a class or teach yourself?
I should probably find a local class at the community center or something! Watching youtube and instagram makes you think you can do it all on your own LOL
Definitely take a local class if you can. You Tube isn’t exactly what I would call the most trustworthy of sources.
1. So far, today’s fragrance is still yesterday’s fragrance, Tobacco Vanille. I love it , but it’s tenacious, so I have to really be in the mood for it before I commit.
2. There are so many on my list, but at the top are the new ones from Serge Lutens and Nicholai.
3. I was very excited to find the Stora Skuggan range locally, but most of them didn’t appeal They weren’t unpleasant, but had a sweetish note that didn’t work for me. My favourite was Azalai, the latest. It is quite like Immortal Beloved from Ys Uzac, and I already have a FB of that.
4. There’s not a lot blooming here as we head into autumn, but we’ve still got plenty of purple morning glory on the hillside behind us. It’s a weed here, but a fabulous one.
5. I finally finished reading the Salvation trilogy by Peter Hamilton. If you like science fiction on the galactic scale, this delivers! I’d got halfway through the second book a while ago but got distracted. I had to start again from the beginning, and got completely engrossed.
The SL is making quite a showing today!
I am looking forward to seeing what Nicolai does for their summer scent this year.
Happy Saturday! We have a much nicer day than I thought it would be. So happy to see some sunshine.
1. SOTD: Matiere Premiere Encens Suave
2. Fragrance I’d like to test: Piguet Zazen. Per fragrantica.com, “The name Zazen refers to a meditative discipline that is typically the primary practice of the Zen Buddhist tradition.”
3. Most recent scent disappointment: Still can’t smell Baccarat 540 AT ALL. I don’t want to buy it, I just want to know what all the excitement is about.
4. Blooming in Seattle: daffs and crocus, cherry blossoms, ground covers. So excited to see them all.
5. Something exciting: I did a small 5k fun run with Mr. SP this morning. I took second place in my age group (51 – 65 women), which I’m totally thrilled about (and haven’t stopped telling Mr. SP about). Of course, there may not have been many of us in that group, but whatever!
Congrats on coming in first! If there ever is a slow-poke award, I will win it!
I came in second but I’ll take it. I ran slowly the first half and power-walked the second half. Didn’t even think about winning. That’s why this was such a nice surprise!
Congratulations, that’s great!!
Thanks, Pixel. I’m a walker, not a runner, but it was fun anyway! I hope this next rainstorm isn’t too bad for you and that your weather improves dramatically very soon.
Geeze Louise that your #5 is awesome! Yay you!
Thanks, Lillyjo! I have that red ribbon placed strategically on the refrigerator! 😂
Congratulations on your run! That’s fantastic!
Thanks, Gail!
Go you! That’s pretty darn good!
Thank you!
Congrats on your run! And what a beautiful morning for it too🏆☀️🌸
❤️
Congrats on your run!
I can’t smell 540 either- I also have a hard time with POAL, so its my nose
Thanks, LTSG!
SOTD = Iunx Talc
So good. I used the full-sized 150mL bottle. The bottle is solid and it really should win some kind of perfume bottle award.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CqObPxlOn2n/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I will be wearing a purple perfume tomorrow for International Epilepsy Awareness Day. I have more choices than I originally thought so there’s no need to wear one purple sock 🧦 🤣.
My want to test list changes daily and there isn’t one that I would go all out to test.
I won’t mention the disappointing smell because I think I need to test it out further. Someone who posted earlier had mentioned the perfume.
Daffodils are all over NYC. I think they’re deliberately planted.
I am meeting my sister, BIL and some friends for dinner tonight. Heh, a good thing that my 8 sprays of Talc had disappeared!
I will join you tomorrow by wearing a purple perfume.
Have a great dinner!
I’ll join you and lillyjo in something purple as well.
I will try my best to remember to wear a purple perfume tomorrow as well.
Talc is such a beauty and I am SO impressed that you’ve made your way through a 150mL bottle! That said, it”s at least a 16 spray perfume because it’s so fleeting…but still!
Also thanks for the reminder to wear a purple fragrance tomorrow.
Just to clarify, my 150mL bottle is still quite full. I meant to mention that I also have a travel spray which would have been easier to use but who should use a short cut when the more challenging method works? 🤣
Pretty sure most spring florals in NYC are planted each season — still a welcome sight though!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I knew. You are so sincere.
Hello, at the risk of annoying you all, I can report that our weather today is FAN-TASTIC! Oooh, sunny, with a brilliant clear blue sky and low humidity and 83 degrees. I love it! You people with snow will get even with me when summer comes.
1. SOTD is Thomas de Monaco Eau Coeur.
2. I want to test Zoologist Tiger, despite the kumquat note. I like kumquats fine but the mix sounded weird to me.
3. Scent disappointment–a bunch of cherry scents in the Luckyscent spring sample set I got awhile back. It seems to be a thing now and I can’t stand any of them.
4. Blooming now: the big Southern magnolia trees with their saucer-sized lemon-scented flowers, plus some colorful snapdragons and pretty climbing pink rose vines that tumble over fences and gates.
5. Good news: I’m going to get my kitchen painted, starting on Wednesday! It’s going to be like a totally new place! Now I just have to figure out how to keep the cats out and how to make my morning coffee, maybe move the pot into a bathroom?
I never get cherry or cherry blossom scents. From the TF cough syrup to various fantasy renditions of the flower— haven’t found one that I like either.
83 is indeed annoying! It is finally sunny here, and 56 which is better than 46, but still.
Hope your kitchen turns out wonderful.
How fun! What color did you choose?
1. What fragrance are you wearing today? Angel’s Share. I had a little spray sample atomizer in my purse.
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon? Avant-Garden sent me a 40% off coupon so I just blind-bought Vaninger. I’d also like to try the new Hermes Jardin.
3. What was your most recent fragrance disappointment? I can’t think of anything.
4. What’s blooming in your local area? My daffodils!
5. Share something wonderful with us! I just got back from two weeks in India to see tigers in the conservation parks. I was hoping to see two or three but I saw 25! Moms with cubs, big males sunning themselves on rocks or cooling off in ponds, it was all amazing. I also saw a sloth bear, a leopard, hyena pups, and some beautiful birds.
How amazing is your no 5.
The trip was delayed three years due to Covid but worth the wait 🙂
So glad you were able to go and had a great time!
Wowza! I was wondering where you were. What an experience! I bet you got some great photos 📸
Wow, I am impressed and envious! As a cat-lover, I can’t imagine the thrill of seeing real tigers in a natural setting!
How incredible! That sounds so amazing. I have never been lucky enough to see something as majestic as a tiger in the wild.
Wow, that must’ve have been an amazing trip. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Welcome back.
One day I will go to India. Where abouts did you visit?
I also had a 2020 trip that happened in 2023 and that was my visit to Morocco. Worth the wait for me
I went to Madhya Pradesh and visited Bandhavgarh, Kanha, and Pence tiger preserves.
Sotd Fils de Dieu which I associate with Deva, and this evening Angel Men, the juice of my vintage bottle is florescent green but it smells as great as ever
Like many, I’d like to test the new Jardin
Back in the summer I wasn’t impressed with Kenzo Flower le parfum I think it was, and I love the original
Crocuses and daffodils
I’ll have a phone conversation with my aunt in France on Monday.
Enjoy catching up with your Aunt on Monday!
Thank you Lillyjo, she’s my last living aunt.
Enjoy the time you can with your dear Aunt. Hope that she is doing well.
1. SotD Champs Elysees parfum, with a little boost from CE edp. A blustery Spring day (blustery enough for a two hour power outage, and lots of Duke Energy trucks are working one block over where power is still out).
2. Ecrin de Fumee, which is waiting in my SL drawer.
3. I’m rather difficult to disappoint. Perhaps I am terminally optimistic or just rather gluttonous, fragrance-wise. 🙂
4. Daffodils are doing great this year! They were pounded with rain yesterday, but are all perked up today. Also, a nearby house has a row of 20 foot tall flowering pear trees that have not split…yet…and they about to look wonderful.
5. I get notices from our library about new aquistitions. Eating Dirt (2011) by Charlotte Gill caught my eye, and I just clicked the “reserve” button and settled in to read it when it came. Enjoyed it very much, as in, it was a page-turner! New books usually are not my thing, as I haven’t read as many of the old ones as I’d like. 😉 Mini-review: for me, it was not a book about trees and the environment but rather about hardy, adventurous humans.
In #5, I think I should have written “…four, 20-foot tall flowering pears…”
#5…I do a mix of reading new books and older books or anything that gets recommended to me on NST.
I wonder if my library does updates for new books they require.
That book sounds interesting! One of my mom’s cousins was a forester in Canada. He traveled the world working on reforestation projects.
1. Today I wore Dame Perfumery Honeysuckle. I couldn’t really smell it though because my coworker decided to wear a gallon of EA Sunflower.
2. I would like to sample the new Miu Miu.
3. I’m disappointed everyday that so many perfumes are very expensive.
4. Depending on the day, it’s either mud or snow blooming here. Today was a 2fer!
5. My daughter was selected by a spring break sponsor to go to an activities program over spring break. This is great because it keeps her in a routine while school is out. I’m crossing my fingers she gets sponsored for the summer version.
UGH on the marinated coworker!
The worst!
My fingers are crossed too for your #5!
And the idea of your co-worker doused in a gallon of EA Sunflower is priceless🌻
Yes! What allo says. Me too.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Yay for the spring break sponsor, hope it will happen for summer too.
Fingers super crossed 🤞
Today I wore Iris Poudre, because someone wore it this past week. I really enjoyed the William Morris CP!
There are so many on my sample list because I’ve not been in the mood to order samples lately. Luten’s Ecrin de Fumee and Fils de Joie, many of the newer Zoologists. Also several from Parfums d’Empire; I ordered 6 samples awhile ago and really liked several but none were FBW.
I wouldn’t say disappointed, but I tried Guerlain Jasmin Bonheur on a blotter recently and it was meh. I’m not the biggest jasmine fan though, so my expectations weren’t high. What’s been bugging me lately is that I feel extremely indecisive about what to wear. Too many choices?! Eecks.
A lot is blooming around me: daffodils, camellias, my pink jasmine vine, and lots of blooms on trees I cannot identify (lots of small white blossoms).
I’m looking forward to having dim sum with my mother in law tomorrow. She’s taking me out for my birthday.
Have you tried Le Cri from Parfums d’Empire? i’ve been curious as I heard it talked about some.
Happy birthday and hope you have a lovely dim sum breakfast/lunch!!
Happy Birthday to you!!! We are both March babies and the same sign 🙂
Happy belated birthday! I hope you had a great time at dim sum.
I had fun reading all the comments here.
I wore Cuir Beluga today after watching Alice du Parc IG interview with Sali Hughes.
I most want to try Eau de Papier like many!
Good to see you posting yasmina!
Hope you are all having a good weekend!
1. I wore many sprays of Angel Le Gout de Parfum to see the Thierry Mugler exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum!!! They had a whole room dedicated to perfumes where you can smell some current and discontinued scents. There were several limited edition bottles of Angel on display too, I loved how beautiful they looked. I’ll upload some photos of the exhibit sometime soon for your enjoyment.
2. I’ve been really curious about Le Jardin Retrouve (Cuir de Russie, Bois Tabac Virginia, Mousse Arashiyama, etc). It is apparently one of the first niche perfume houses started by a prolific but underexposed perfumer. The house declined but was revived in recent years with original formulations from their earlier years, as well as new compositions. Very interesting.
Also looking to sniff some Chanel Les Exclusifs that have flown under my radar but are apparently quite popular (Beige and Boy).
3. I was disappointed by Les Indemodables Iris Perle tried on skin… I love a good iris but this one is just too green and astringent to enjoy. I also sampled Masque Milano L’Attesa (thanks to a fellow NSTer) and liked that one much more.
4. Ashamed to admit I don’t know what’s blooming since we have so little greenery in the city! But I’ve been seeing tulip stalks popping up…
5. Please attend the Mugler exhibit if you are in NYC! It closes in May. So so worth it and a must see for perfume fans as a tribute to Angel and other iconic Mugler perfumes, not to mention the gorgeous fashion.
Also, I saw some comments about wanting to try the new Hermes… I have a bottle and am happy to make samples, just let me know 🙂 Feel free to email me if you have my contact, or find it on my blog footer.
I saw the Mugler exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum a couple of months ago, and I enjoyed it a lot. The perfume room is gorgeous and the fashion is amazing. It is really worthy and highly recommended. One of my sisters leaves few blocks away from the museum and she has tickets for next weekend. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.
Wasn’t it a fabulous exhibit? Mugler is so fun! I love that they did a whole perfume room. The Dior exhibit had a perfume section too, but it wasn’t as fun — did you see that one too?
Hope your sister enjoys the visit too! I went with seamstress friends (and I make jewelry) so we had a fun time marveling at the craftsmanship and dissecting how the pieces were made
Yesterday I wore Encens Mythique and prepared a feast for Nowruz. I made kebabs, the good luck soup, Persian rice and some pudding with rose water. I set up my haft seen and it was simple this year but my intention for spring and new beginnings was in my heart.
I don’t think I will test any perfumes in the coming weeks. I am interested to smell the new By Kilian though it didn’t get a good review from She-ra on here…
That sounds wonderful, and a great menu. What is in good luck soup?

Nowruz Mubarak! Hope you had a good celebration.
We did! Wishing you a beautiful spring 🙂
Currently dealing with a power outage after some screwy weather yesterday. I am going to have to explain a lot of things to Donnatella in the damage poll. Currently in Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea. I have no idea when I am going to get electricity.
I hope your electricity is back by now!
Bucketing down the biggest fattest flakes I’ve ever seen. This was not in the forecast.
Just got back from taking doggo out and my scarf is wafting a myriad of wonderful perfumes. Maybe I’ll just wear this all day.❄️
I have been busy this weekend so just barely had time to read all the comments and haven’t had time to respond to anyone. The reason for being busy is my #5.
1. SOTD is Zoologist Bee for the last time this winter as I just took out my spring and summer scents.
5. We are driving to North Carolina the end of this week to see our grandkids. Although it is always fun to see them, we spend a week cleaning house and getting packed. I probably won’t respond too much in the next few weeks.
See you all when I get home.
I have a travel spray of Bee that I pass on every time my hand hovers. But yesterday it was perfect 🐝!
Safe travels Kris!
Safe and happy travels!
My best friend is coming over this evening and I am deeeeelighted. She lives a few states away and has gone through a lot over the last few years in the demise of her marriage. I miss her so much and cannot wait.
Yesterday I repainted the (handicap) blue on the curb of a neighbor and think I may have gotten a little sunburned. This is very exciting! Sunburn = sunshine. Now I know how Noah felt when the dove returned with the olive branch 🌞🌻🌞
I’m in the floral oudy goodness of Miller Harris’ Scherzo hair mist this morning.
We are sunburn twins! I walked outside yesterday for 45 minutes and then sat by the pool for another 25. 🥵
Enjoy face to face time with your bestie!
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine
Black Opium Le Parfum
YSL Babycat
Cherry blossoms
I smelled the Dries Van Noten scents in Paris two weeks ago. Amazing!
1. Wearing Trish McEvoy n9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk. This and Tam Dao are the scents I’ve been wearing since Christmas. I am 50% of the way through the Trish bottle, since I like to spray throughout the day and 5 – 6 at a time since it is so lightweight. I’ve never gone through a bottle so quickly and am loving it.
2. There’s a candle brand that just came out with fragrances. The brand is called Nette, and they are now in Sephora. I like the candles very much and bought the fragrance sampler. So that will be coming next week! Have no expectations but am excited to try something new.
3. I bought a used bottle of Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude from ebay and it is slightly turned. Bummer! Didn’t spend much on it so not a big loss.
4. Daffodils and Cherry blossoms!
5. Went to an animal sanctuary yesterday, fed alpacas, sheep, donkeys, goats, ducks, and more! Was so fun.
Oh, what animal sanctuary farm did you visit? Since we’re both in Seattle, I’m guessing it’s somewhere around here.
And so sorry about your turned perfume purchase. That’s a bummer but I’m glad it wasn’t a big loss of money.
I’ll be curious to read your thoughts on the Nette perfumes.
1. SOTD? Soivohle Lilacs and Heliotrope EdP. It is very definitely purple, and matches the velour top that I am wearing today.
2. New fragrance most interested in sniffing? If it came my way, I would be interested in either the new Hermes, or the Pistachio Kayali that lillyjo mentioned recently. But not expending much energy in chasing the new right now.
3. Biggest recent perfume disappointment? Probably Synthetic Jungle. I was hoping for something similar to TM Supra Floral, and that definitely ain’t it. Also rather screechy to my nose.
4. What’s blooming here? Still some daffodils, plenty of forsythia, hyacinths are almost blooming as is the crabapple tree by my front steps.
5. Something wonderful? The sun returned here today! I have *so* missed the blue skies. Also, I have a little bit of get up and go after my funk. Yesterday I did a huge load of whites that I had been dreading. Today I got both groceries and cat food. The cat food was on sale at the pet store as part of a First Anniversary celebration.
I’m very happy for your #5!
If I end up getting the Kayali I will send you some. I’m waiting on the Sephora sale, I never know if something else will catch my eye. I tried it again the other day and still like it. I definitely get Lily of the Valley from it.
I’m jealous of your sun! Glad you felt better today.
Thanks for the purple! I love you even more.
Hope you are having more #5 feels tomorrow, too.

Hey all! It’s been a minute. I still haven’t fully recovered from the virus I picked up a month ago–the cough and having to clear my throat all the time won’t go away. I even got a nebulizer, and I can’t tell if it’s helping at all. I’ll go back to the doctor soon if it doesn’t clear up, but it’s been such a pain!
Anyway, I’m currently wearing a bit of Sinful Strawberry Jelly Body Serum from Mojo Spa here in Chicago. It’s got that scented lip balm for teenagers vibe, which I’m enjoying for now!
I’d like to try Un Jardin à Cythère. I haven’t had any perfume disappointments lately. And nothing is blooming around me yet, though I can see some tulips and daffodils coming up!
Something wonderful: I LOVED reading “The Appeal” by Janice Hallett. I stayed up way too late reading voraciously, I was that into it. I found it really funny and intriguing, and if you’re kinda nosy like I am, it feels like a forbidden pleasure to dive into all the emails, texts, notes, and other correspondence that make up the book, even though you know they’re fiction.
Now I’m going to read everybody else’s comments! Hope everyone’s having a good weekend (it’s almost over, wah!)
Good to see you socks! I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks lillyjo!
I am wearing Lolita Lempika today for epilepsy awareness day. I still don’t get the Angel connection but I smell pretty great.
I saw the Mississippi Tornado on the news this morning and my heart just goes out to them.
Thank you! I am in tears. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The tornado. 🙏
SOTD = Prada Purple Rain
This is my Purple, literally. I love it but don’t wear it enough!

Hi all! Late because I’ve been cleaning all day.
1/4 – Nothing because my backyard has opened up with the dozens and dozens of daffodils, the variety of which I’m not sure, but they are pale white and smell so sweet and heady. It’s intoxicating!
2 – I’m interested in trying the new Diptyque as well as the Harvest version of Guerlain’s AA Nerolia Vetiver, because – Honey.
3 – Jicky. I knew we could not be married, or even have a long term relationships, but I don’t I can even buy it drinks or be friends anymore with it. I wish.
5 – My generous neighbor gave me some of her gorgeous hellebore plants, and I have high hopes they will thrive in my yard!
Have a great week, all!
I love the smell of daffodils…mine are mostly subtle, but I’ve got a big bunch of them on the dining room table and I catch a whiff every so often.
I’m not feeling well right now.
I had to pop in to my beloved friends and mention International Epilepsy Awareness Day, but THANK YOU to hajusuuri who got the word out.
Thanks to everyone for participating and I appreciate your kindness more than I can express.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Sorry I missed it, and so sorry you are not feeling well AnniePerfumes!
