Happy Almost-Friday! It's also World Meteorological Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
For an aged (rather than recently produced) rose-themed textile from Morris & Co, I'm wearing the rose-themed Parfums de Nicolaï Balkis Light, from a now relatively ancient bottle.
Reminder: 3/24 is William Morris' birthday. Do whatever you like with the theme: match a textile or wallpaper or La Belle Iseult, or choose any motif (wear strawberry for Strawberry Thief, for instance)? Or take inspiration from his London house or garden, now under the care of the National Trust? And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good Morning-
Wishing a blessed Ramadan to those who are observing (and fasting)
Just finishing The Sheltered Sky movie. Obviously the book is way better but I enjoyed the film nevertheless.
Enjoying my spiced coffee this morning with oat milk.
Busy day with my Italian lessons and errands.
Forgot my SOTD is Isvaraya by Indult
You smell great!
I am not sure what to think about my SOTD. It’s from a sample from Luckyscent. I am on the fence
It does have a funkiness to it, I have to be in the right mood to wear it.
I sort of like it but in the end it’s just too heavy and sweet.
I have not seen the film in eons, I should add that to my list too.
The film is good! I enjoyed the book immensely. I picked up the book you recommended and I am almost finished with the Whartons book. It’s only 100 pages I think.
I’m wearing Fidji edt, which has both hyacinth and galbanum, two of my favorite scents. I haven’t worn this in a while, and realizing how much I like it, I just ordered a full bottle.
You are smelling wonderful, that’s a perfect spring scent.
I really love Fidji, vintage perfume is to die for. I haven’t tried the recent ones.
Wedding fragrance, July 1974. Lot of vintage going on there.
Today it’s Etat Libre d’Orange Je Suis Un Homme, a citrus leather that somehow turns into clovey-woody Halston Catalyst for Men a few hours in. Great stuff.
This perfume name always makes me think of that theme song : “Men men men men, manly men men men”..!
Another chilly gray rainy day. I was really going to concentrate on William Morris prints today but because of the weather, I’m wearing Gris Clair. Haven’t worn it in ages and it smells so good!
Perfect match for a rainy day
I really love this design, I would easily use this as a wallpaper.
I am wearing vintage Fleurs de Rocaille. Found an old ad for the perfume and it is sooo beautiful.
For your eyes only !!

Your sotd sounds gorgeous and that’s such a wonderful advertisement.
so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing that great looking advertisement!
That’s an amazing old perfume ad!
Sotd is OJ Ta’if, thanks to a generous NSTer🌹It works well with the photo of the day and those beautiful roses.
You smell fantastic allo!
Thank you Robin, so do you!😊
You smell wonderful my friend!
🌹❤️
Wearing Lyric today. For my interview tomorrow, I am debating on either no 5 or 19 parfum. I just want to dab something on the back of my knee but don’t want anything heavy hitting.
I would say 19 always gives me more confidence -but dab whatever makes you feel comfortable
I say go with 19, or a No. 5 flanker. Chanel No. 5 is too recognizable, and somewhat polarizing.
I think either would be ok, but if you go with No. 5 then I would suggest L’Eau since that is much lighter. Have to agree with Sheri on this one.
No. 19 would be an excellent choice for an interview, IMO.
Heads up, the US Hermes site is well stocked on travel sized Hermessences now. I’m planning to pick up three for myself, so I have ONE slot if anybody wants a travel spray. It will be about USD55 + shipping to you. Comment to dibs and email me at: me -a t- pira tefsh -do t- net (without spaces).

We got power back yesterday! A mere 24-ish hour outage this week! Next storm is due Monday, and there’s even snow in the forecast. Bah humbug. Thanks for all the kind wishes yesterday. I might need them again next week.
I’ve been reading familiar cheering things lately. Finished a re-read of Jerome K Jerome’s Three Men In A Boat, always enjoyable. And now I’ve started Connie Willis’s To Say Nothing Of The Dog which was inspired by TMIAB. Good for a grin.
Ha! Forgot to mention my SOTD: Mugler Naughty Fruity, boozy sugar plums. Very not William Morris.
When did that particular Mugler come out? I don’t remember it.
It’s one of their Les Exceptions scents. Fragrantica says 2019.
Your generator is getting a workout!
No kidding. I have been so glad we put in a whole-house transfer switch when we did major electrical work 15 years ago. Being able to run everything off the generator is huge.
I always have a lot of pleasure reading what other NSTers are reading..as well as the SOTD
I’ve had The Sheltering Sky sitting on my kindle for ages. You’ve inspired me to finally read it 🙂
It’s a sad book but written well and can be sensual at times
Wearing office-friendly VCA Bois d’Iris. On the weekend I received samples of Miss Dior and J’Adore: never tried the former before, and it smelled cheap and not very nice, to be blunt, but I might keep the J’Adore for old-times’ sake.
Totally intrigued by your scent of the day-really considering buying it. Except I just paid for my new water heater-also a nice purchase 😉 Wearing a sample of another iris scent: Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre (my keyboard won’t do the accents). Very beautiful, very well made, with such subtle sillage – I might need to try wearing more, but I’m enjoying my sample 🙂
I purchased this scent earlier this year at Jomashop for a good price. You may want to try there or some of the other sites as I bet you can find a pretty good deal.
Thank you-I’ve used Fragrance Net (they ship to canada) so maybe I’ll pull the trigger 🙂
I bought mine either from them or Fragrancebuy
Annie is right. Fragrancebuy in Canada usually has good deals too. I have bought from them a couple times and I live in the U.S.
Warm showers beat perfume purchases by a mile!
Morris did several iris based designs, I think. I am wearing Irisss today, and I would bathe myself in this stuff if I ever won a biggg lottery… Seemingly recovered from the plague, Adorable hubby still hasn’t gotten results of his liver biopsy, so hurrying up and waiting there. My sister is coming for a quick trip(4 days) this afternoon! We are very close and will go wander the woods which ever days it is sunny and wander quilt and yarn shops, book stores and do a swing by Macy’s perfume counter on the days it is rainy. Hubs thought it was a great idea to begin with, but he knows we will chatter like magpies the entire time she is here, so his ears hurt already, just thinking about it. 🙂 I even put on jewelry this morning-gotta keep up some standards here! Embrace every minute of beauty and joy, to have contrast for the times when beauty fades and joy is lost in pain.
Also , watching 1883 by Netflix DVDs. This is not a perfect Western story, but it is much better than Yellowstone, and it is very romantic and the love of the horses and open space is palpable. Sam Elliot is his proper self(who cares what he is doing, just listen to that voice),, Tim McGraw showes why he is a country star and why Faith Hill is with him, Martin Sensinmeir (sp) up the ante on how to look hunky on horseback – many small parts are fleshed out so well, all the actors have poured their hearts into this. Well worth watching, even taking grains of salt for the 21st century plot points..have a good day, one and all…
I haven’t watched a western movie in a long time…
What fun, have a ball with your sister! Mr. Meredifay will live through it I’m sure 😉
Love the gentle reminder to “embrace every minute of beauty and joy”.
Wearing MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold. I would think this would be a very inoffensive fragrance – cozy vanilla, nutmeg, amber, musk. Somehow my husband came trailing out of the bedroom after I got ready this AM, wailing that the scent offended him. (Oh, too bad, too late!)
I am doing an online course at home all week. I did the course live 4 years ago and recall it was extremely fatiguing. At the time, I thought the fatigue was from the travel and not sleeping in my own bed but removing that factor, I am still exhausted, sitting in front of computer screen all day. At least the weather has been relatively crummy, so I don’t have to stare out my window at a nice sunny day. The speakers are great, I just hope my brain can absorb it all. One day left . .
Enjoying my fragrance of the day very much just not sure how I am going to avoid exposing my husband to my perfume choices.
That does sound even more exhausting staring at a screen, hope the last day goes well!
Scent: Demeter Dandelion for now. Right this minute, I’m craving green, rose, and berries. Rose and berries are not typical for me, but here we are.
Tea: Harney White Vanilla Grapefruit
Have a great day!
Hope your day was fantastic too!
SOTD Penhaligon’s Ostara, and is not working for me today. Very annoying and overwhelming. This is a scent that I like to wear a lot in spring, so I just hope it is not the end of my love for it. I will revisit it in the next couple of weeks and see how I feel about it.
Happy Thursday! 🌻
Hopefully it’s just an off day. That happens to me sometimes.
I hope so too! It would be sad to send it to the goodbye pile.
Unfortunately, I wore that a few times when I first purchased it and after that I just couldn’t seem to like it anymore. Not sure what annoyed me about it, but I stopped enjoying it almost immediately after I bought it.
There is a very pronounced soapiness smell that even though it has been always there, this time is very strong and off putting. I will give it several tries again and hopefully it will work for me again.
It’s probably just the day. I wouldn’t give up on it yet.
It could be! Perhaps too much stress and a very humid day outside is the reason why it is behaving a bit different today.
Definitely a good idea to try Ostara at a later date. Maybe after that looming deadline at work?
SotD is ELdO Experimentum Crucis, to go with the roses in the paper above. It’s…maybe not as restrained as those roses, but it’s very rosy.
Well something called Experimentum Crucis shouldn’t be that restrained, right?
Wearing a sample of Eau Coeur by Thomas de Monaco. Very pleasant sweet fruity little thing. No need for more.
Also, I forgot to report about the new Diptyque Eau Papier. It is a very nice white musk skin scent, kind of reminds me of Fleur de Peau. I will try those two side by side tomorrow when I’m at the mall.
Ugh, just what I do not personally want Eau Papier to be. Oh well.
Thanks for the info on Eau Papier. I can skip it!
I have to say I’ve recently had a very good run. You know, when your life and everything in it seems to be in synch, things are easy, everything is going your way, things are turning out better than planned, the stars are aligned? We’ve all had those glorious times, right?
Well, the penny dropped and I realized it’s all a sham. Now, everything has gone to hell in a hand basket (otherwise known as a “reality check”) because this is just the way it goes. Instead of getting all angsty about it, I’ve decided enjoy the ride to the underworld! 😂
I would say I need a drink, but I don’t really drink and it’s only 10:20am here. Instead, I’ll spritz some MVP.
Bucketing down rain and whipping winds, both perfectly in synch with my ride to hell. Cheers! 🌪
YEESH!
I really do hope you are okay!
(I have had one of those days. Months. YEARS.)
You just made things that are not going well sound exciting in a good way 🤣. Hope you get all sorted out!
Yikes. Please tell us that the nice retired couple who were adopting Moby didn’t turn out to be something else … and also that T-Rex is okay. 🤞 on both!
I was thinking the same thing about Moby.
The wheel turns – sometimes you’re on top, sometimes you’re on the bottom. The last three years I’ve been on the bottom getting flattened. I’m hoping to ride back to the top soon. You have the right attitude, you’ll be fine! 🙂
Sending good wishes your way.
Hugs to you and T-Rex!
Don’t go without a fight Deva!
I’m feeling angsty for you.
Gracious. I hope it is all stuff you can laugh at later.
Yikes!
No life or limb issues for the Baby T, so please know she’s just fine! Thank GOD because I couldn’t take it! The jury is still out on the retired couple who have Moby. I still have the title, so time will tell. But, in retrospect, I think I’m pretty stupid. The second person behind the older couple was a guy who got a little salty on me. When I texted to let him know Moby was sold, he pulled the age card on me and said “I’m committed to vanlife and you only sold to them because they were old!” Had no idea how old he was until he told me later in that text convo, which is 22. I guess that explains the saltiness! But he really wouldn’t give up telling me how he felt about it and I was getting annoyed. 🙄 My truck, with less than 1500 miles on it, lit up like a Christmas Tree this morning with the “check engine” light glowing like the eye of a beast from the netherworld. Nearest dealer is not calling me back to schedule an appointment. Winds gusting around 30mph on Megler-Astoria bridge and I do NOT want to drive over it in this weather, which I would have to because the dealer is that side of the bridge. Are you kidding me?! Starting new contract on Monday and have just been told today I need another physical because it’s been “more than 90 days.” Of course, there’s no place near my current location to get this done. Again, are you KIDDING me?! My water pump was making all kinds of racket this morning, but thankfully I was able to figure out why and fixed it. But, it gave me additional agro on a day when I already had too much agro! Was texting back and forth with another critical care nurse today who told me she quit, didn’t even give two weeks notice, is not going back to nursing “no matter what,” and will just get used to being a “broke 🍑 bi*ch from now on.” She’s inspiring me! Levity is my bestie! Invited me to squat on her property in Oregon for free if I wanted to sympathy quit. 🤣 So, nothing out of the ordinary really, just a bunch of little PITA issues that, compounded, make for a 💩 day. Thanks to all for your concern, but we’re all good here. I’m off to make some pasta..!
What an annoying little punk that kid wanting to buy Moby was! Entitled too!
Wow, but that is a lot of pita issues all at once.
Ugh, kid. Seriously, in my case I’d be sympathetic (I have a younger cousin who recently left his job and is travelling the country) but clear on who’s more likely to actually come up with the cash instead of a story on why they can’t get it all at once. (Been through too many Craigslist deals where I get every sob story in the book…) Fingers crossed the title transfer happens!
Oh dear! Hope everything gets sorted out and realigned toward the vector of smooth sailing!
Hello all!
Greetings from the Fintech world, as we watch the world BURN. Fortunately, I am in infrastructure and thus do not have the stress that the product managers do.
2) I am in a very William Morris inspired scent today- Red Apple, White Peony and Cashmere Wood from Beauty Pie (since discontinued ) A lovely fruity floral that also has a greenness to it- very much like the wallpaper in my kitchen (Pimpernel).
3) I have started doing spin classes. At first, not gonna lie, I thought they were unnecessary for me- after all II bike everywhere.
Dear friend I was humbled! Those sessions are tough, and my form is not as good as I thought it was! Combined with a more focused Pilates practice I am finding that I let my body & posture get into all sorts of bad habits!
4) I am painting the upstairs hallway and stairwell! Color is Seapearl, a grey tinted, silvery white that does NOT pull blue! That should be done by the weekend.
How are YOU?
Hey, long time no see! Nice to hear from you. Re: Pilates, I’ve been doing that for 10 years now, and whenever I think I can stop going to the studio and just practice on my own, an in-person session with a trained professional reminds me how easy it is to fall into bad posture habits. Yeesh. And re: the financial world burning down, I live with the Pessimist-In-Chief, who has been predicting this meltdown for a while. Glad you are somewhat insulated from the worst of it.
1) Having a good teacher re-adjust you on the Reformer or guide you on the Cadillac is so welcome, so key . I had no idea that my shoulders were slumping so; that my core was weaker than I thought, that my hip flexors were so tight.
2) Part of the meltdown was expected for a while now, so PiC has been correct- I just did not expect it to be in such a spectacular and cringingly stupid fashion.
Spin is tougher than actually cycling because you have to push the whole time, like constantly riding uphill. You never get a downhill coast! No thank you.
After 14 years of wild colors, I am going with basic white in my new flat. Hoping it will be calming and a nice backdrop for the artwork I plan to put up.
Oh gosh- no coasting or riding momentum AT ALL. You are just going and going and GOING all the time. My first class I was gasping and sweating HARD.
There is something to be said for a lovely basic white – especially if you have colorful art or furniture.
This is my last day at work for a month! I’ll be away from the office for four weeks and two days, those extra two days make it my longest break from work since 1988!
I haven’t checked to see if William Morris did much with carnations, but they are a vintage kind of flower, and I’m wearing Caron’s Bellodgia.
Enjoy your trip! Four week holidays are the best, that was my option of choice when I had it.
Enjoy your vacation.
Enjoy!!! Buon viaggio
Congrats on the extra long holiday! You smell fantastic today.
Have a wonderful vacation!
Enjoy your vacation!
SOTD is Chanel No 5 EdT. I am finding I really like this iteration of the original. Of course, L’Eau is my favorite and that will be coming out in my spring/summer rotation shortly.
I have a perfume mini of No 5 for back in the late 90’s when they did the perfume wardrobes. I am shocked that none of them have turned yet.
Wow!
I like the EDT better than the EDP as well although, like you, L’Eau is still tops for me!
So far, No. 5 L’eau and Eau Premiere are the only versions of No. 5 that I get along with.

I’m looking at Jane Burden, Morris’ wife. She was known as a beauty and a muse, and as being unfaithful but ( of course) she was much more than any of those things. She was instrumental in selecting fabrics and embroidery threads, was a designer…her own designs were geometrical, reds and blacks. So, not given the credit she was due. I am matching with Datura Noir, as a bit of an overlooked Lutens and one that has hidden depths.
Thank you, very interesting.
Very Interesting! Thank you
Love the tie-in with Datura Noir.
I chose one of my most uplifting scents Liz Earle Essence No 1, a city’s chypres, mostly natural, and tonight Thierry Mugler Miroir des secrets which is basically Angel with aldehydes.
*a citrus chypre
Aurora, do you have all of the Miroir line?
Hi Lillyjo, no, I wish I did, only two, secrets and joyaux, love them both. I think we both have the joyaux one IIRC.
Yes we both have Joyaux. I also have Majesteax. I keep looking for the others, but I assume they are long gone now.
I’ve been spectacularly unmotivated today. Woke up feeling a whole lot of MEH.
SOTD = back in Supra Floral. At least my perfume is not MEH!
Hope you have a better and cheerful day tomorrow!
These gray, cloudy days are already taking a toll on me!
There was quite a bit of rain here this morning. That does not do much for motivation, does it?
Hope you get out of your funk soon!
Had plans to get some things done, and did none of them. But I did get more stuff copied over to the new computer today.
I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Sometimes an unmotivated day is good to reset.
We shall see…
Weather doesn’t help, I’ve had that feeling quite a lot lately.
SOTD = Memo Paris Sintra
OMG – it is so good. I only realized today that it smells like Love, by Kilian, don’t be shy Extreme. Just look at the notes in Fragrantica.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJeYe5OGDT/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
So yesterday I did some personal business with a women’s fashion / accessories store. I picked an item and texted to ask when is the best time for me to call. Instead of responding, I got a call about 25 minutes later 1 minute into the start of a meeting! I answered and said I will have to call them back. Wouldn’t you know it, I got another call, which I did not answer because of the meeting! I finally called and gave them my card number, then got a receipt. Eh? Why was I charged a lot extra? I called them back and the woman already knew what she did wrong. I got a corrected receipt. I then get another text – was my address correct because UPS would not accept it. Seriously? So I texted back and said she probably has to provide a phone number. Then after a few moments, she texted back and said she had to change my number to have a different area code. What the —? She said “someone” changed the phone number! If she was able to call me, she’s got to have the right number! Anyway, all these to say I hope she’s OK because I’ve never had to deal with something like this ever with this store. I was almost tempted to call the store to have them check on her but I let her be.
Do you prefer one over the other?
No because there are differences as well. The Kilian is simpler but is louder (in a good way) whereas the Memo has a green earthy vibe to it.
Ugh, your tale is a Customer Disservice story.
I’m wearing Cafe Tuberosa for work tonight. I’m just waiting for the night to get over with so I can have a day off tomorrow.
Have a nice day off tomorrow!
Enjoy that well deserved day off!
Very well deserved!!!
I love William Morris and this particular fabric design. Must go with an English rose fragrance — Jo Malone’s Tudor Rose is a perfect fit!
