Happy Valentine’s Day! It's also a (teapot-less) Tuesday in February, and there are 34 days of winter left to go. Birthdays: Frederick Douglass (maybe), Jack Benny, Florence Henderson, Gregory Hines, Terry Gross. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am doing imaginary textile matching this week, since I'm on a beach vacation and will likely be commando 80% of the time and in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum for the other 20%. Today I'm pretending to scent cashmere, which seems to indicate Fendi Theorema. My (real) tea is Numi Aged Earl Grey, double strength with milk.
Reminder: 2/17 will be Textile Friday...wear a perfume that makes you think of a textile–linen, silk, raw silk, velvet, corduroy, damask, wool poplin, cashmere, polyester, swimsuit fabric, etc. Suggested by Oakland Fresca.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows a White Heart-intarsia Cashmere Sweater from Valentino, originally at Matches Fashion, probably sold out. (The text: your eyes are the eyes of a woman in love.)
I love Terry Gross and Fresh Air. The time slot for her show locally is in the afternoon, generally when I’m coming home from my mom’s house, so many times I sit in the car and listen.
I’m sampling Zoologist Harvest Mouse today and I’m loving it. Like most perfumes, for me anyway, it smells better when I’m not trying to parse the notes. I would pair HM with washed, rumpled linen. Yesterday I wore Coromandel and would pair it with silk velvet.
House twins!
Yves Rocher Neonatura Cocoon, cozy patchouli-vanilla-cocoa, from back in the day when YR scents were reliably well-made and interesting. I didn’t like them all, but they weren’t just being churned out: you could tell a lot of thought went into them.
I have not tried any from the latest set, but they might be good. I do think they aren’t releasing as many lately?
Working on my travel spray of Iris Poudre and have decided that I do prefer the Ferre after all. Ah money saved until of course I start looking for a replacement bottle of the latter.
ooh what is the Ferre? I do like Iris Poudre, curious for alternatives.
Original Gianfranco Ferre. Some suggests it’s the “original” Iris Poudre.I find them similar but different and really like both.
I have both, and they’re really similar, except for the price. I got the Ferre for $10 at Winners-bought it cause it was there so long I felt bad for it. I get more sandalwood from IP. Hope you can find the Ferre again.
I have not ever tried Ferre, but love Iris Poudre.
Ferre is lovely indeed.
Today I pulled L’Ombre Des Merveilles from my stash of minis. This is my first wearing, and so far so good. I am not sure that it will last long on my skin.
They are not powerhouses! Is the mini adorable?
Love Extreme for SOTD
Pot of Eros Tea
What are you reading?
You smell great. 🙂
I love this one!
Profumum Roma Ambre Aurea this morning. It’s smelling very masculine on me this morning, not sure why. Maybe the cold cold temps? It’s not as sweet as usual and quite a bit fuzzier. Brings to mind a black panther but that may just be a reflection of the packaging and color of the perfume itself.
Happy Tuesday, teapot or no!
Happy Tuesday Deva!
Interesting. I generally prefer this one in cold weather, simply because it becomes overpowering on me when it’s warm out. But it’s beautiful, and you smell great!
Love the CP theme this week!
Some candidates:
– Chanel Cuir de Russie – sexy, sexy black leather
– Guerlain Shalimar – the plush, animalic quality of Shalimar makes me think of furs
– Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle – rubbery tuberose evokes latex
– Frederic Malle Iris Poudre – the coolness of iris evokes a perfectly elegant silk scarf
Nice suggestions!
Iris Poudre= Hermes silk carrè!Love.
Yes!! Exactly what I was imagining <3
I'm also partial to the Hermes large cashmere silk scarves, am thinking of a scent to match those.
Fantastic!Do you have an Hermès scarve collection?
I have two that I wear often <3 Do you like/collect them too?
Wearing Jasmin Noir this morning, which is mostly smooth honeyed wood with a sprinkle of blossoms. I’m going to have to think a bit on the community project this week. I’ve got Nuit de Longchamp by Lubin, which reminds me of pale green silk, but I’d like something a little warmer for the cool weather
Advance notice: tomorrow’s image is a pale green silk print!
Currently in no 5 edp. Creating a shopping list for after work.
We just did a big shop ourselves 🙂
SOTD is Zoologist Bee.
I really like Bee but have used up my sample. Considering a FB though.
I really like the travel sprays. I got Bee and Civet in the fall and they will both last through winter. This made me decide to get them in travel sprays again rather than the FBs.
You smell wonderful. I love Bee and might think FB whenever my travel spray goes “thunk.”
See my above to Kanuka. I am going to stick to the travel sprays for now. I like them.
Travel sprays are wonderful things that more perfumes should be in!
I chose Eau Duelle today in homage to Valentine’s Day sweets. I don’t wear it very often, but when I want it, it’s always perfect.
I really like that sweater! Guess I missed my chance to buy it before it sold out. Oh well, my wallet is grateful.
I don’t know why but I have never liked hearts on my clothing. Just as well for both of us, right? That is not a cheap sweater and in my house it would have to live in a plastic bag or the moths would get it.
the only hearts I ever considered were the CdG sneakers.
I caved and got them (with the rationale that high tops had been on my to-buy list for awhile). I am normally not a heart-on-clothing person either, but I love these.
I admit the CdG hearts are all adorable. But they’re weird instead of romantic.
I’m like you, no hearts please, and I don’t like hearts in jewelry either.
Exactly.
The last few day here have been very springlike–temps in the 50s and 60s during the day, I saw a robin and I also saw girl scouts selling cookies. I have been wearing Marron Chic the past few days to go with the weather. Theoretically snow is predicted for tomorrow but I’m currently ignoring that possibility
Cookie time, plus spring temps: yay.
I’m wearing TF Fleur de Chine, and the name reminds me of crepe de Chine, so there you go. CP-compliant without even thinking! Though now that I -am- thinking, I probably should have saved it for Friday.
Nice pairing.🙌🏻🙌🏻
We have a national state of emergency here ( the third in history) due to cyclone Gabrielle and the images of the storms, flooding and damage have been gut wrenching. I am too far south to have been affected personally but a lot of friends are having a tough time with flooding damage and power outages ( about 225000 houses have no electricity , I think).
It’s been warm and sunny where I am and I am wearing Ganja, which fabric-wise would be hemp. The bottle is really nice in the hand, a nice weight like those old silver capped bottles in gentlemen’s grooming sets. The cap has a satisfying magnet closure. The perfume reminds me a little of Autumn Vibes but through a CDG filter, a bit more swampy than leafy. I still don’t smell cannabis.
Stay safe!
Weather has been hectic this summer down south,we had a week of non-stop rain and flash floods as well!
🌹🤗✌🏻
Sending best wishes to your friends and loved ones <3 hope everyone stays safe
Oh my goodness, I thought I had read lots of news this morning but missed that. Adding more wishes, hope everyone is ok.
Take care Kanuka.
So sorry about the cyclone! Mother Nature can be so unkind. I’m glad you are safe.
What a horrible event. Keeping everyone who was impacted in my thoughts.
stay safe!!!
I saw some news footage about Cyclone Gabrielle earlier this week. It looked horrible. Glad to hear that you are high and dry.
Oh, no! Like Robin, I missed this story on the news. Best wishes to you and all of NZ.
Geeze Louise Kanuka! I saw this this morning and have been worried for you. I am glad you are ok.
I am wearing il Profvmo Caramella d’Amore for Valentine ´s.
Here are my favourites for today.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Copuf0nO6he/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I cannot open that, don’t know why.
I fixed it, it should work now.
Oh, perfect — that’s really a great shot and a great collection too. Thanks Hera.
Forgot to say SOTD is L’artisan Fleur de Liane, which I love. I know lots of people disliked both the marine and fruit aspect of this but to me it’s a fantastic scent-it smells clean and just gorgeous-not like anything else I own. I even love its cheerful green ribbon on the bottle-it’s perfect. Wish I had tried the body cream, too.
I have forgotten it but I think I was among those who did not love it? But glad you do, and I miss the travel series from L’Artisan (if it was even from that, I can’t remember anything today).
I have that, and wear it seldom; after buying it, I continue to feel ambivalent about it. I must try it again one day again soon.
I really like Fleur de Liane too. It really ticks the box for green and dewy.
❣️♥️❣️♥️❣️♥️❣️♥️❣️Happy Valentines Day!
I just got home from a little birthday/v-day dinner with a glorious friend.Fantastic steak, sweet potato chips and crème bruleè for dessert was on the menu.
SOTD!
Bergamotto di Calabria from Acqua di Parma, and for dinner I just went with the freshness of Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale. These two remind me of a crisp white cotton shirt.
Lovely.
XO’s!🌹❣️♥️❣️♥️❣️♥️❣️♥️
What a tasty-sounding dinner! Happy Valentine’s Day and birthday; and yay for friends near us to share that!❤️
Oh,it was his birthday,not mine!And thanks!Dinner was indeed tasty,and the company was great.✌🏻🤗🌹
❤️👍
Happy Valentine’s Day and happy birthday JB! Creme brulee is the best.
Happy Birthday to you! 🎂 ❤️
Sounds like a great reason to head out on the town!
Happy Birthday! Your meal sounds great, and I love that one from AdP!
Yum to your dinner!
Happy Valentines Day, everyone!

The author wasn’t credited, but a Google image search suggests it’s by artist Hugh Murphy, who’s done a series entitled “T-Rex Trying.”
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Here’s a blog post with more of the T-Rex Trying series:

Hugh Murphy’s Tumblr seems to be up but it comes up “Hidden due to mature content.” If you have an account, maybe you can see it?
Adorable!🤭🤭
These are delightful!
Excellent!
Your first link made me smile. Thanks!
I am wearing another sample application of Iris Luminiere, which is a fantastic iris, with a good rooty bottom under an enthusiastic careening ride through all my favorite flowers. I think it is supposed to be a sort of high end dress up and go out scent. In my case I am dressed in some of my tidier denim jeans tucked into my tidier brown boots, since the black ones have not been demuded recently (welcome to Michigan, where we effortlessly generate mud 12 months a year!), and the tidier indigo barn jacket, and a flattering pink turtleneck. Pink, indigo and the pale blue of faded denim are suitable Iris colors, I think. Happy Valentines Day, one and all. Hope NZ recovers from the weather- generated problems. The latest shooting spree here in Michigan is giving our re-elected governor with newly elected support in both Houses of State Legislature an opportunity to take steps here. Sorry, no politics! Fifty one degrees here- strange times!
Our weatherman said we will be getting March like temperatures too!
I can’t say anything! But hope for happier times.
My sister just sent a photo from Wyoming. 50 mPH winds and snow drifts shoulder all around her house, which is up on a little knoll and has an unobstructed view, which means no wind breaks of any sort, for miles and miles and miles… She says they are snowed in until the wind stops. Here in Michigan we have 47 degrees right now, and light spitting rain. I fear the trees are all budding too early.
I think it was two years ago when plants got so confused that we got cherry blossoms in … January. This is in NJ.
April-ish temperatures for me today, tomorrow and Thursday. And yeah, it is *seriously* weird.
I chose lipstick rose for Valentine’s Day. I used to hate it, and now I quite like its fluffy sweet rose-violet vibe.
Since it’s my husband’s birthday, I long ago relinquished any Valentining, but I do sneak in a card for our son.
Love Lipstick Rose! I recently fell in love with it. It’s like eating violet candy with a sprinkle of rose, perfect for Valentines!
Happy birthday to Mr. Irisjasmine!
Happy Birthday to your husband!
More birthday wishes for Mr. irisjasmine! 🎂🎊🎈
I’m in Dear Polly.
My neighborhood mall just got a Bluemercury (dangerous!) and they have a small selection of perfumes including some from Vilhelm. I already had a travel spray of this one, which is the perfect size. The other one from the line I liked was Modest Mimosa, but they didn’t have that one. Money saved.
Bluemercury is ok for a restock of something one uses regularly–otherwise not a fan, as they issue merch credits instead of refunds.
Ah, good to know. I haven’t had to make a return yet.
SotD LL Sweet; Victoria’s review at BdJ is how I feel about (and love) this one. My choice for Friday and the CP win suddenly dawned on me. But I am very interested in what you folks come up with as the week goes by🧐😸. Happy Valentine’s Day to all NST’ers, and shout out to Robin to catch some sea breezes and warm sun for me!
We are definitely catching plenty of both to go around!
I’m smelling appropriately sweet in SL Rahat Loukhoum.
you smell great!!
SOTD is Love Don’t Be Shy by Killian for Valentine’s Day. It is very marshmallowly with some minor floral notes. Kinda perfect for a saccharine holiday, but not something I’d reach for otherwise.
I love this … the Extreme is even better.
I am accidentally CP-compliant in SSS Rose Musc, which is the scent of cold silk–you know, when satined silk first slides across your skin, before it’s been heated up by the warmth of your body.
Happy Valentine’s Day! In celebration, my husband (giggle) (it’s still ridiculous that I have a husband, even though I’ve been married for 1.5 years) and I spent a long weekend up in a schmancy hotel in SF, eating our way through the city. We also snagged some foie gras of dubious legality at the farmers’ market, so we’ll have that with some fancy wine tonight.
I’m glad you had a nice Valentines Day!
Thank you, lillyjo 🙂
Oy with the foie gras but it feels so decadent to be doing something you’re technically not supposed to 🤣
Are you not a foie gras fan? I’ve been in love with it since I lived in France the first time at the age of 21 🙂 it really has nothing to do with whether or not we are supposed to have it!
Oh, I am. I understand that some techniques in making it are considered cruel to live poultry. Sometimes it is better not knowing the source of one’s tasty indulgences.
How lovely!
And I know what you mean, it took me ages to not find it odd that I had a husband.
🤣 I look forward to hitting that point!
After 1.5 years of marriage you are probably still in the honeymoon phase. Enjoy!
I always say we are well beyond that stage because we have been together for 10.5 years total. But what do I know? Maybe I’ll look back in a few more decades and decide you’re right!
Happy Valentines’ to every sweet and fragrant soul who posts on NST.
SOTD is Ensence Suave and WHOMEVER told me its a good one is
ENABLER OF THE DAY. you know who you are.
Dentist yesterday – need a new crown. Damn.
Ooooooooof, sorry to hear that you need a new crown. What a PITA!
Ugh. I’m getting ANOTHER one on Thursday. Ouch to the pocketbook.
Drat.
I couldn’t pick just one scent for today, so I have Rose de Jamal on one arm (still thinking of rosy scents from last week) and SDV on the other arm. Sweet and rosy.
I got my husband a slice of flourless chocolate cake for Valentine’s Day and it was so good it took all my powers to not eat the whole thing!
Wow!
I also heard that men should get flowers…although I would have no clue how they would feel about it.
That was an excellent exercise of willpower with the cake!
I usually post a YouTube link to the song “Love Stinks” by the J. Geils Band on Valentine’s Day. This year, it is a link to something different.
https://fzotic.com/blogs/the-fzotic-blog/why-i-hate-valentines-day?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=Why%20I%20hate%20Valentine%27s%20Day%202023-02-13%2021%3A39%3A02&_kx=wejJXXuH56Hji2oDMt2dinOAsLytgjy6S5q1s-HDsZH79-Nk5u35NqJxn7N0VRrF.Uv7sXr
SOTD = still in Lady Vengeance. At least I am wearing a rose perfume for Valentine’s Day.
Lovely post from FZOTIC!
It resonated with me. Too good not to share with people who would get it.
That’s a nice post. I didn’t know all that personal info. I wish him and his family well.
He certainly had an extremely rough 2022. Glad that he came out of it with all the support he had.
It’s a great post!
FYI, there was barely any Valentines Day collateral in NYC, at least the parts in midtown that I zigzag through.
It seemed like there were SO many ads for Valentine’s Day this year! Inescapable and highly aggravating.
Jalapeno, thanks so much for sharing that post, it’s wonderful.
You’re welcome Robin!
And I hope that your trip was a good one.
My SOTD is a few light sprays from my little sample of Valaya given to me by the nice SA at Nordstrom last week. I thought right away I would compare it to the very light touch of a pretty little floral gauze silk scarf. Oddly enough when I looked up the notes on Luckyscent it said this: “An ode to pure femininity, Valaya portrays a radiant aura and yet, an impalpable softness that captures the scent of the skin caressed by a veil of cotton. ” Well, no, it’s not a cotton veil, it’s a silk gauze scarf! And furthermore it is in shades of pink, red, and maroon, in a floral pattern! I’m telling you!
You go girl!
2nd that!
SOTD to day and yesterday is 28 La Pausa, which I associate with silk. It would be fun to collate, at week’s end, everyone’s choices and see how many fragrances per fabric and fabrics per fragrance we came up with.
And thank you all so much for the good wishes and congratulations on our newborn grandson. Everyone is doing well, and he’s adorable. We won’t get to see him in person until (probably) late July, since we are on opposite sides of the planet, but once they’ve settled in a bit at home we will have weekly Zooms so he can get used to our voices and so we can see him grow. Like so many here on NST, our family has been through many sorrows and strains the the past five or six years. It is wonderful to have a new person to love.
Congratulations!
So glad he and his parents are doing well! Bet you cannot wait for July.
I’m in Banana Republic’s Gardenia Cardamom today for no particular reason. A thin, waxy gardenia. Not an indole in sight. The cardamom is like a whisper from the other side of the field – there, but barely. The orange is orange juice, no zest, oil, or pith. It would be a winter-white silk muslin with an open weave.
Today’s tea was F&M Christmas Black because I had an early call-in safety meeting after a late night with my cute-and-colicky niece, and I needed some enticement to dial-in and get up, rather than dialing-in and hitting the snooze button 🙂
I’ve almost bought this a thousand times. Thanks for your thoughts on it.
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EDT
Yes! The discontinued one in a ginormous bottle. Love it!
https://www.instagram.com/p/Coqe2lZOc9T/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I’m doing my next move in terms of CDs. The shortest term seems to be best for me and it will keep rolling over every 3 months. I need to check to see if I can have them ladder it for me without inconveniencing me.
In other news … I really need to take an earlier train because the later train I get, the sunlight is no bueno as I am walking east. I suppose sunglasses won’t hurt but wearing sunglasses in the AM does not feel right to me. Anyone have this issue?
I haven’t spoken with my friend since Saturday. I know things won’t get better but I hope things are not getting worse for the husband. I will continue to pray for her and her husband.
I wore Kiss Me Intense today because….Valentine’s Day.
Owners of the market where I work gave us each $25 market gift certificate from Valentine’s Day. I thought that was sweet, since it’s where I mostly shop. And, a friend in the deli gave my husband and me a HUGE slice of a rich chocolate berry cake from the restaurant where her husband is head chef. Yum!
Well oops…that got imbedded in the wrong place.
I had started to reply that I wear sunglasses whenever I need. Growing up in CA, I never question the need. And, in the winter here, the sun is so low to the horizon, I might need sunglasses at 8 am…
This was before 8am but I can imagine that it will get worse and worse as spring shows up.
Maybe it’ll be better, since the sun will get progressively higher in the sky and maybe hit you less directly in the eyes…. Hope sor8ngs eternal…😂😉
Smelling fancy today!
I think it’s fine to wear sunglasses as long as the sun is shining. I am planning on getting prescription sunglasses this spring and will need them to drive in the a.m.
I suppose walking is just easier than driving but the sun hits the same way.
I need sunglasses when I’m outside unless the clouds are so think it is raining. The sun is the enemy of my pale irish eyes (and even paler skin). But sunglasses make everyone look 30% cooler. 🙂
If I need sunglasses when I am driving or walking, I will wear them. I don’t care what time of day it is. It sure beats squinting in the sun’s glare.
You were smart to snap up that big honking 31 RC EdT bottle!
It’s been a long day. We ran out of bags today at the store. I was bagging people’s items in trash bags. Lol. Nobody seemed to care. We have had an order in since December.
I wore Prada Candy Night for Valentines Day. I really would like to repurchase Candy Kiss. If you like white musk, It’s a good one.
It’s probably not a popular sentiment but I would let people pay for their bags (reusable)…
Only 1 person did. A few just carried their items.
It is a waste, I know.
Sounds like you had a crazy day today. Hugs.
SOTD: Cristalle. Not exactly a textile, but crystals are textile-adjacent! Happy Valentine’s Day, Robin and NSTers!
It is just a personal association, but Cristalle to me is denim shorts 🙂
Happy VD everyone, heh heh! I’m in Prada Purple Rain. Lovely iris. This would go with silk something.
I went to Costco today, and as I was leaving the guy in front of me showed his receipt to get out (I still don’t know why they make us do that), and all he had was men’s deodorant and a bouquet of red roses. He was ready for a romantic evening!
