It's Blue Monday (chin up!) and Martin Luther King Day. Also, National Religious Freedom Day, or, if you prefer, National Nothing Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've overslept and I'm going to chime in later today with a fragrance pick...
Reminder: 1/20 is David Lynch's birthday. Pick a favorite Lynch work or character and wear a scent to match, or pick a theme (split roles? doppelgangers? surrealism?) and work with that for your fragrance choice. If you don't know (or care about) his work, you could just wear something a little weird or off-kilter.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Yet another cold, icky day that can’t decide if it wants to precipitate rain or freezing rain so it does both indifferently. It is nasty underfoot out there, but I’m inside and wearing Nuxe Huile Prodigieux, which smells like the beach (if the beach were populated by tanners wearing old-school suntan lotion).
Ugh…sorry, we do have sun here, but cold. You have convinced me to wear something beachy, but haven’t decided what.
I’m in Broken Theories this morning. I think David Lynch would appreciate the stamped-metal vibe of Kerosene’s labels.
I like this.
We should do a “steampunk” cp as well!
Ok, I am trying to think of how you’d translate steampunk to scent. I might fail that cp.
Maybe a whole lot of dregs from samples ( last drops) cobbled together to make something strangely beautiful
Oh, excellent. I hadn’t realized (until just now when I did a little research) that steampunk is related to post-apocalyptic science fiction, simultaneously with the tail-end of the Victorian era. In a post-apocalyptic world we might well be cobbling together whatever dribs and drabs of perfume that survived.
Aha.
Oh, please do add steampunk to the CP list!
I’d totally be up for a steampunk week! 😎
With Robin on how to interpret. My familiarity with steampunk is limited to Back to the Future III, the one with the steam locomotive. 😆 I’m imagining someone dressed in black, with some frills and a fair number of metallic accessories, and maybe scented with violet or lilac? Ooh, or Bulgari Black! JB, how would you scent steampunk?
My first scent for steampunk would be Eau de Protection!
I love the romanticism/mechano vibes that’s like a thread through most of steampunk(to me anyway).
Bulgari Black was an excellent suggestion above as well.
SMN Nostalgia?
I can play with steampunk quite a bit!
+1 for steampunk!
I am surprised by all the votes, esp. since we did Sci Fi not too long ago, but I am adding to the list!
Woo Hoo! Love the idea of a SteamPunk CP
Cool idea!
Looking forward to steampunk if only to see what everyone else thinks up! Thanks JB🎩
Great idea
Wearing L’Artisan Ginger Piccante.
Still cold and windy here despite the sun shining beautifully.
I am going thru my collection once again to do some purging, and as usual, I am going crazy. I took almost everything out of the perfume cabinet and organizing them again inside it is a nightmare. Wish me luck! 😫
Good luck! 🍀 I need to do the same!
You smell great and good luck with the reorganizing.
I need to do that, too. Best of luck.
Oh my!You have my total sympathy for the re-organising of your “wardrobe”!
It’s always instant regret for me too when I do it like that, taking EVERYTHING out all at once…lol!
Good luck!🤞🏻🌹🤗
Ha, I feel your Purging Pain! Best of luck!
Wishing you very good luck! Once you are done, I’m sure it will be more organized. It’s a painful process but will be worth it in the end.
Not sure if you watch YouTube videos, but Veronica Says does some great declutter videos and perfume organizing. She does have a massive collection but I am so envious of her fragrance shelves that are in the background of most of her videos.
I love Veronica Says!
She should join NST. She’s very personable.
Isn’t she fantastic? She seems so down to earth!
Ruh roh, I just went down the Veronica Says rabbit hole to investigate — she’s fun!
She sure is!
Good luck! I narrowly escaped the same fate when I started looking for Jean Patou Vacances after reading the weekend poll this morning. Mission aborted!
This happens to me regularly. If it’s not where I think it is then usually something else there catches my eye.
Good luck!
I have some of these narrow Cabidor shelves — they are perfect for storing many bottles of perfume with good visibility! Mine are not behind doors (not enough space between my bathroom doorframes and walls, but rather lining one wall of a hallway.
I do keep most of my perfumes in their original boxes, though.
Good luck with the Perfume Tetris!
I’m cozy this morning in my new AG Myrrhe Ardente body cream (which might be nice to wear while watching something David Lynch-esque, but is probably otherwise unrelated to the CP). I’ve had the AG on my To Buy list for ages—seemed like it was a fairly short production life —but hadn’t found it. I finally ordered the body cream which you can still find at discounters. The cream may not be quite as nuanced as the perfume but it’s very nice. Kind of an herbal, incense vanilla with a touch of root beer, but not overly sweet. 😁
It sounds lovely!
SpringPansy, do you mind sharing where you found the cream? I love this scent, too, and the original AG creams were awesome for the skin 🙂
Hi Carole, I bought mine through Walmart (believe it or not!), however, they list their source as palmbeachperfumes.com (and that site may have more choices). Not sure what they have besides the Myrrhe Ardente.
I so appreciate this – thank you!
Of course, happy to enable/help. 😀
Ack! I do NOT need any more lotions or potions! (And I need to keep telling myself that!)
SOTD = ELDO Fat Electrician
I’m thinking the name may evoke David Lynch in its strangeness. No iris here (at least according to Fragrantica); however, opoponax can take its place, as it usually does, to my nose.
I feel human again today as I got a much needed haircut!
I just uncovered something in my kitchen cabinet. I must not have looked carefully but there is a thin drawer inside one of the cabinets. I will be clearing that out plus a few odds and ends small parts of chez moi. Wish me luck!
Good luck to you, too! 🍀
You smell great, congrats on the haircut, and your cabinet drawer sounds intriguing.
ELDO have some pretty good ones for the theme!
Yep, you could add a fat electrician to Twin Peaks with ease.
Good luck!
How intriguing! I wonder if the thin drawer was intended for cutlery or silverware?
Yay for a haircut!
I am overdue, but for some strange reason my hair has grown out in such a way that it looks better than when it was first cut. Weird, huh?
Good luck in your kitchen explorations!
It’s a very Monday-ish Monday here with chilly gray rain. I’m wearing one of my favorites, Les Nereides Patchouli Antique, my bottle is old and syrupy with a great powder drydown. Good day to tackle inside chores, or take a nap.
I vote for nap?
Old movie, then nap.
It’s gross out. Take a nap.
Isn’t it? This winter is so weird.
Weird winter here, too.
I just got back from the vet with my cat Midnight, and boy, is he peeved. I waited to put on fragrance until I got back, and today it’s The New Paradise, from my Ramon Monegal discovery set. It is both herbal and figgy, and while I am not a fan of fig scents in general, this isn’t bad.
Aw! Just watched the episode of All Creatures with the peeved cat.
We had a black called Midnight when I was in my teens. He wasn’t keen on the vet either 🙂
I’m taking my cat to the vet on Friday morning. He will be peeved all the way there, throughout the visit, and all the way home. At the top of his lungs.
I have one of those too.
Is your peeved kitty OK?
Krizia Uomo.
Twin Peaks scenery in a bottle, maybe even a “pet log”…haha!
Happy Blue Monday!
This one totally overdid it with the blue-ness,like what the…✌🏻😉🤗
Log Lady may be drawn to options among the Scents of Wood brand 😉
Love this too.🙌🏻🙌🏻
At the laundromat extra early today to Get Stuff Done! Also, shall begin the Great Van Clean Out Day today.
Currently wearing Guerlain Oud Nude and very much enjoying its vanilla woody goodness.
Coffee in the process of being ingested, no toast because I have no jam. That fact may force me to stop at a local bakery to get my breakfast….🥯
Trying to follow in the footsteps of all the greats including MLK, Jr, Jesus, Mohamed, the Buddha, etc., by loving my neighbors, which is quite easy right now because I have none! ❤️
Lol @ the neighbor-comment….and actually same!Lol!Empty apartments all around me,and I am not complaining!🙌🏻🙌🏻
😉
Wheels make even better neighbors than fences 😉
Absolute fact! 😀
Have you crossed the bridge yet? Does jam wait in the other side?
Ha! I’ve crossed the rubicon in that the check is in the mail…💸💸💸💸
💃💃💃!!
I have no jam sounds like a book or album title. Lol.
“I have no jam” is a sorry state of affairs, for sure! Would best be served as a title by a blues musician- Stevie Ray Vaughn and the like! BUT, I saw the most stunning rainbow this morning-very wide with so many clearly delineated colors I gasped! Not superstitious, but really, it made me so happy, so having no jam was not too traumatizing! 🌈
Or a lost soul at the disco.💃🤭
*snort* That lost soul at the disco would be me! 😂
What a shock, it’s raining here. Again. Still. We have had over 32″ of rain since just before Christmas. But tomorrow we are supposed to have sun!
SOTD is Dior Mitzah for warm coziness, which is not David Lynch at all, but I have this CP covered starting on Wednesday. Stay tuned!
Holy tomoly that’s alot of rain!
It’s so frustrating that all that rain helps the drought but then brings flooding and landslides. :(. Hope you are doing fine.
E. Freaking. Gads. That is an unbelievable amount of rain.
I watched The Fabelmans recently and at the end David Lynch comes on in a scene stealing cameo, playing legendary movie director John Ford. It’s a wonderful end to the movie, a joyous lift. My other favourite Lynch part is in the much smaller film, Lucky, a great film and maybe Harry Dean Stanton’s last film ( will have to check). Terrific . So, a perfume that plays a memorable, supporting role to bigger events. Brings life to the day but doesn’t hog the scene with a major force field. I’m going with Epidor, from a Gaynor sample. Perfect as I watch hay making on the hill opposite.

Wearing vintage Jicky today.
You smell great Dawn! I think I will wear that tomorrow.
I’m wearing Chypre Mousse today. It always reminds me of how spring smells. It’s cloudy and not raining (yet) so I will go outside while I can.
Smelling fabulous! Never understood the “crypt” analogy with this scent since it reminds me of all the burgeoning life of springtime. It’s a commitment though- lasts forEVER on me and on clothes it has lasted through an nature wash/dry cycle.
Another challenging CP! Having seen only The Elephant Man and Dune when they came out, and only once, and having mixed memories of “what I thought,” I may just go with the obvious connections so as to scoop up the valuable CP points. But I’ve been meaning to watch EM again for a while, so will look into that when I get this week’s DVD’s at the library. SotD Cuir Beluga for comfort after a grit-my-teeth-and-go Dr. appointment. All is well, so I am thankful. We’ll just leave it at that and I am going to be a princess the rest of the day. Which Cuir Beluga is very much the scent to make one feel like a princess or a prince.
Glad all was well!
Lillyjo, I thought of you as soon as I saw this! It’s actual audio footage of police interactions with the criminal element enhanced by some highly skilled cartooning! Enjoy!

Hilarious!🤣
Video is very droll!
Thanks👍
Glad that your appointment is done and dusted!
And how😅
I’m still in last week’s CP and finally got to my favourite colour, I’m wearing an orange dress and am matching it with 24 Faubourg.
Thank you to all the enablers who didn’t even try to talk me out of Patou. I have FBs of Colony and Deux Amours on their way. I was going to buy L’Heure Attendue, but made the sad discovery that Fragrancenet isn’t posting to New Zealand now. On the rebound, I bought the two that were available here.
My years of swearing never to blind-buy are clearly over 🙂
Good on you. I’m curious about the pineapple note in Colony.
The Heritage Collection version of Colony has a lovely, but very short lived pineapple note.
Colony was a contender for my weekend spree. Maybe it will yet make my buy last.
My sniffing notes say “A much lighter fragrance than the notes list indicates”. The pineapple note is fresh one, not canned or candied.
Excited about your Patous! I decided on Que Sais-Je.
I thought about that one, but went with L’Heure Attendue instead, so I am interested in hearing your take on it when it arrives.
I’m wearing Keiko Mecheri’s Loukhoum from a sample. I am considering buying a decant which is frankly totally nuts. After reading the weekend poll this morning, I went looking for my vintage mini of Jean Patou Vacances. I bumped into more evaporating decants and realized (again) that I should not be buying them ever again. Sigh. Anyway, it’s a beautiful day and I’ve abandoned the search so I can enjoy it!
Now that I am reorganizing my cabinet, I also realize that many decants of scents that I love have been evaporating very fast. Money and scents waste, since I can’t keep up with my whole collection anymore. Very frustrating!
Kudos to you for tackling reorganizing! Let us know how it turned out.
It can be so disheartening to realize that perfume has just disappeared into thin air, but I don’t want to regret what has already happened. Moving forward, I will devise a game plan and avoid being so haphazard about my choices. That sounds good to me!
I’ve come across some evaporated decants lately, too. Such a bummer!
I have a ton of ruined decants. Use ’em or lose ’em!
MLK, David Lynch, Steampunk….I am wearing DS&Durga’s Durga, my favorite over the top tuberose scent. When I came downstairs this morning adorable hubby started to kiss my neck but jumped back in feigned alarm, fanned himself and said, Wow, when the Zombie Apocalipse comes, wear that – it should repell them off if not drop them in their tracks!..(he has started watching The Walking Dead again, without me, so he has zombies on the brain…) LOL. I also flashed on Isabella Rossellini in that horribly violent David Lynch movie – she would have worn a tuberose perfume, yes? Now that I don’t have to go to work work, I can wear all my heavy hitters.. 🙂
Started watching World War Z yesterday after drinking a huge cup of coffee. Not a good combo before bedtime! Between the movie and coffee, my poor little heart was electrified! Zombies creep me out in a way no other ghoul ever could…Maybe I should invest in a bottle of that perfume! 🧟♀️
Ohhhh DS and Durga has some epic one for a steampunk cp!!(totally going off cp,sorry!!)
Lol-impressive tracking staying off track!
Congrats on the retirement!
Thanks! After several weeks of decompressing, it’s starting to settle into place. I can see the outlines of a new routine starting to fall into place, with lots of me time…
Blue Velvet is the one with Isabella Rossellini. I should rewatch it this week for inspiration!
I have a vivid memory of one of those awful scenes- I am not sure I could watch it again, even though I do remember some of the beautiful scenes too. Please give us your impression if you do watch it. Although, considering other awful stuff that has been filmed since then, maybe it won’t be so shockingly awful in comparison.
Nice to know that you are armed and prepped for a zombie apocalypse, ha!
I’m wearing Lost Cherry for cherry pie in Twin Peaks.
I might end up doing lots of Twin Peaks pairings this week since it’s the main David Lynch work I’ve watched. I was in high school when Twin Peaks was on air, and I was probably way too young to “get” much of of it but I loved the whole vibe and aesthetics of the show. Oh and the haunting music! Sigh.
I LOVED Twin Peaks! It should be full of perfume inspiration, too. 😺
Happy Monday, everybody! I’m in Sideris today and getting quite fond of the thing. ❤️
It is lovely!
Usually wearing perfume makes me feel less off-kilter,and also the reason why I come to visit my NST Tribe every so often is to find that connect with kindred spirits around the globe, from Boston to Johannesburg…looooove it!!
🙂 🙂 🙂 Hugs & kisses to you!
Thank you!
I was just rambling randomly!
Hugs to you too!!🤗
❤️❤️❤️
Random rambles are awesome. Hugs and love to you, J B. ❤️🤗
I enjoyed the unexpected Monday sighting of you today! 😉😎
I think Bruno Fazzolari’s line FZOTICA is an apt match for David Lynch.
Bruno is also an artist, and my Daily Lemming is this Ummugumma throw:
https://fzotic.com/products/ummagumma-throw?_pos=2&_psq=umma&_ss=e&_v=1.0
You know I want to buy that and color it with fabric paints!
Still working on the not-at-all- strange Eau de Magnolia decant.
I am not going to do strange until Friday, probably…you must smell like spring!
If today is Blue Monday, then there is only one Song of the Day that fits: https://youtu.be/9GMjH1nR0ds
I will have to do some serious pondering for a David Lynch-based perfume CP. Nothing is an obvious pick to me.
RIP Robbie Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. A lot of musicians seem to be passing on lately.
SOTD = hanging out in Etro Royal Pavillon EdT again. I can hardly believe that this is an EdT; it acts like an EdP. A couple of sprays and I am good for at least 18 hours with this one.
Oh, that’s sad to hear. Now I have an “You ain’t seen nothing yet!” ear worm. Longer ago than it seems, apparently, until I look in the mirror and see an amalgamation of my two Grandmothers’ faces looking back at me- one grandma’s arched eyebrows, the other grandma’s pouty now mouth. I have taken up redder lipstick, which they both wore, but I am resisting the tightly permed and slightly blue hair…
Pouty bow mouth- stupid spell check! Both grandmas were sorta cute and perky in early photos, but both were worn down by hard circumstances and grief by the time I knew them. One of them listened to the area rock station from time to time. “You ain’t seen nothing yet” is a song she would have liked.
“You ain’t seen nothing yet” was one of two things that came to mind when I heard the news. The other was “Taking care of business and working overtime”.
Sotd is Tubéreuse Criminelle, which I could easily wear all week and find some new David Lynch link each day.
Gosh, you probably could!
I know, it was made for David Lynch!
Late but here!
Sotd was Rose Cherie. I love this perfume so much! Hate the stupid price!
