It's Monday and National Apricot Day. Birthdays: Carrie Chapman Catt, Simone de Beauvoir, Joan Baez. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m taking points for apricot, in Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus.
Reminder: 1/13 will be True Colors Friday. Tell us your favorite color, and wear a fragrance with that color in the name, or that reminds you of that color, or that has juice in that color, or ... ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Adding, apricot is not even one of my several favorite colors so I am deducting my own points — I did not read my own text 🙂
apricot is not a favorite color of mind, but many perfume could match!
My favorite color is Cobalt blue. So I will do a week of that..
I am starting with Encens Mythique-to match an Arabian adventure amongst the blue frescos in a beautiful Northern African country..
You thought this out better than I did 🙂
Agreed! Yves Klein blue is one of my favourite colour but I was just reflecting that I wasn’t sure what to do for that one (outside the insanely expensive Yves Klein blue bottle you featured a few months ago)!
I love this idea, tho.
Possibly an Andy Tauer perfume for Friday then?🌹
Happy Monday!
My favorite color is aubergine purple, but not a match today.
Santal Calling!Yes,it called again today. This is totally gorgeous and unfortunately for my wallet,Ex Nihilo has some really exciting perfumes in their lineup.
XO’s🌹✌🏻
Happy Monday JB!
The only way to save the wallet is to stop smelling new things 🙂
Haha!Yes,but also,I cannot disappoint Donatella during her next visit.🤣🤣
Someone has to keep her spirits up!
Happy Monday to you J B!
My favorite color is Black.
I am starting the week with Lady Gaga Fame from the cute mini that I always forget I have.
Unfortunately, I have never been able to associate any scent with it, so I will be matching it with the color of bottles and juices.
Happy Monday! 🖤
There is back to black by Kilian
Back to Black is on my list for this week. However, I associate the scent with winery red.
ah ok..I associated it with Amy Winehouse :p
The most appropriate match! 👌
There are lots of scents with black in the name, and a lot of them really aren’t, but two that do the job are Bulgari Black, which smells of smoked black tea, leather, and rubber tires, and Perry Ellis 360 Black for Men, which is a tobacco-suede scent with a decided black-licorice quality.
I agree about Bvlgari Black. I think is the closest to matching the color. I have not tried Black for Men, so I will definitely add it to my sample list.
Interesting… I would have never guessed black as your favorite color. It is my most favorite for clothes. I am always disappointed in Noir perfumes that don’t smell noir. It’s like false advertising.
Many people get surprised when I say black is my favorite color. They associate me more with blue. I love black on personal clothing, shoes, bags, bed clothing, anything. But I was banned by my parents, especially my mom when I suggested I would love to have some bathroom and kitchen items in black. They both liked colors that make spaces look bright, bigger, and cheerful. I have not found one single Noir perfume yet that smells dark enough for me, which is disappointing.
Maybe ink notes, or maybe volcanic stone type scents, or supernatural night scents. Squid, Coven, Lampblack, Datura Noir
Those are great suggestions! I will do some search for perfumes where those notes are predominant.
Black is also my favorite color! I too have yet to find a perfume that matches it, perhaps something with licorice or ink (like Kanuka suggested). Oddly enough, I have plenty of iris and musk scents that perfectly evoke whiteness.
I always match iris perfumes with grey and blue. Very few times with light shades of purple. However, for some strange reason, I associate Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo with beige.
Ohh that’s so interesting! Now that I think about it, FM L’eau de Hiver, Hermes Hiris and SL Iris silver mist lean grey to me but not blue — and those are ‘cold’ irises to my nose.
I have not smelled Orris Tattoo, will have to find that. Maybe it’s the association with skin?
For me, Hermes Hiris smells like dark blue, Iris Silver Mist light gray, and Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena a very dark gray. Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre would be a light brown.
I feel like carroty irises are blue and gray. But, I Love Les Carottes is dark orange.
Couldn’t reply directly to your comment below for some reason, but you got my attention re: Iris Nazarena, I am very curious to smell a dark grey iris!
I just had a thought — Chanel Cuir de Russie is the only one that smells ‘black’ to me, but it is a very matte, powdery black.
That’s very interesting! I never thought about the matching color for Cuir de Russie. To me, it is taupe. I usually associate leather perfumes with brown, beige, taupe, and cream colors.
Fame was/still is such a cool perfume to me!
Perfume with an ink note evokes black to me,like Encre Noire.
Fame is a very nice perfume. I still need to try Encre Noir.
Bruno Fazzolari aka Fzotic Lampblack is the closest thing I have smelled that gets close to the color Black in perfume.
I am sure I have a sample of Lampblack that I have not tried yet. I need to find it in my huge pile of samples asap!
Sorry for the sentence up above! I just re-read it and gave myself a “dope slap” for that horrible mess. I am usually more articulate than THAT.
I’m in AA Gentiana. Scanning my full bottles this morning I found the beautiful blue flowers on this box, and since blue is a favorite color, I chose to wear Gentiana. I forget how much I like this, because it is really quite herbal. I don’t have a favorite color, specifically, although I am really drawn the the autumn color range.
Interesting, will have to google the box!
(and yes, gorgeous)
I’m in Salvador Dalì, one of those extremely ’80s things that asks the important question, why would you choose a scent family when you can wear them all simultaneously? It’s a warm spicy floral chypre woody oriental with aldehydes and fruit up top, just a total smorgasbord of a scent. It’s without a doubt the scent that started me on this deranged journey: I instantly fell in love with it and not only bought it, but convinced a number of my friends to buy it, too. (Alberto Morillas also did Rochas Byzance and the original Cartier Panthère at about the same time, so he had his finger on the pulse.)
This reminds me of my Ted Lapidus Rumba – fruit, woods, floral, aldehydes. You’ve convinced me to seek out the Dali!
Love this! Sometimes I wish I could smell all the perfumes at once, it is so limiting to only get to wear one at a time, but you found the answer 🙂
Love SD and the nose/lips bottle! Your description is perfect.
Those lip bottles are fun for sure. I have one on display.
One of my favourite colours is green, so this morning I decided to break in my cute little bottle of Un Jardin sur le Nil. Also testing my nose — I’m not sure it’s right yet as last night I tried the sample of Jardin sur la Lagune that they gave me with it, and it smelled like Jardin à l’Hôpital to my nose b/c all I could smell was rubbing alcohol. Nil isn’t as bad this morning, but I’m still going to wait longer before trying new scents, I think.
Ohno hope your nose recovers soon! La Lagune is quite light, it was mostly a light lily scent to me.
Un Jardin sur le Nil was the scent that singularly sent me down the perfume rabbit hole, thanks to that one Chandler Burr article in the New Yorker, an excerpt from his book, I think.
I liked “Jardin a la Hopital” as a description.
I love the colors of the Tauer Cologne Maghreb bottle, so that’s what I’m wearing. Dark pumpkin-y orange, deep yellow gold, and a cobalt blue-purple. I have a lot of these in my clothing wardrobe… and in my perfume wardrobe, too I see: the labels for Hiris and Cuir Ottoman, Hermes boxes, etc.
Cobalt blue and orange is crazy beautiful for a colorblock outfit!
Another green lover here. Right now I’m in Alba, which is not green at all, but I could definitely do a whole week of green scents, and a little later I plan to switch to Sycomore … or maybe OJ Woman. We shall see.
Green twins! 💚
Twins!
Another twin!
Hmmmm…. Guess I’ll be wearing green scents all week. Lime green to forest green to teal…all good.
But, I’m thinking I might wear Cinema again today. I wore it last night from a mini, and I’m debating a travel spray.
My favorite perfume that was colored green was Paco Rabanne’s Mētal. It even smelled almost neon green
Yum, and Calandre another PR classic.
Yes!Amongst my favorite bottle-designs as well.
Green is a great idea.
Yay for Cinema, a big favorite of mine!
I’m with LizzieB, loving all shades of green. I can do a green week unless another perfume calls me first. So today is my beloved Chanel 19 edt, taking double points for the scent and color of the juice.
You smell divine!
You should know!
excellent choice, No 19 is a lovely green!
It’s my favorite.
I think the EdT is my favorite version of No. 19.
We’re just coming into apricot season now, and I hope to go inland soon to the orchards to get fruit. Our earliest apricots came from Australia (Roxburgh) , England (Moorpark) and California ( the Newcastle) in the 1860s. Wearing Journey for the apricot note , watching the moon set and smelling the clover wafting through the window.
Apricots are a beautiful fruit. All the colors of a sunset in that little gem. I grew up on an orchard of mostly cherries and apples, but we did have two very prized apricot trees.
I had apricot jam (thank you Kevin!) with cottage cheese for breakfast. Have a long wait here for the fresh version!
I am in love with that beautiful moment you painted a word-picture of. 🫠
I love an apricot note in perfume, although I can’t think of any that I have atm….looked it up – Yvresse!
Sampling Strangers Parfumerie Cachouli today…getting strong earthy patchouli in the opening.
PSA Bergdorf Goodman has 15% off beauty and fragrance today and tomorrow.
Feeling stressed with work and personal stuff coupled with some general post-holidays blues for good measure but just fortified myself with a second cup of coffee to help power through this January Monday… 💪🏻 …the most dreaded Mondays of all.😆
Power through while smelling great! ♥
Thank you, SP! ♥️ Cachouli was nothing to write home about btw. 😉
Sending strength and good drying weather to you!
Thank you, Kanuka!
January is the worst! Chin up, She-ra, you can do it.
Thank you, Robin! January really is…followed closely by February. 😉
That is most unfortunately the case.
I hope your funk disappears soon!
I’m not ill or anything but the PSA did not make me leap for joy as I am contemplating a low buy. The year is young, very young…
The year is young, very young… ehaeheaeheh 😍
You can do it, She-ra! Maybe this winter won’t be so bad.
Thank you, ringthing!
I am keeping some inside Xmas lights up for the express purpose of cheering myself up. We shall see how long I do that.
Hugs.
Yay for those lights! Our fireplace is awfully dark without the Christmas lights and I was just googling pink lights for Valentine’s. 😉 Hugs to you, Jalapeno.🤗
New here, so I am going to have to catch up with the CP. Today I am in Etat Libre Jasmin et Cigarette. My fav color is red though. The only connection would be it takes 🔥 to smoke, so that has some red in it. Lol
Welcome, yvree. And that logic works just great for your scent of the day!
New here, but clearly a seasoned perfumista with your SOTD!Love that one!!
Aww. Tk u!
That connection works for me.
Welcome to the group!
I just discovered Jasmin et Cigarette, and I loved my sample. On the buy list it goes!
This was a recent rediscovery for me. It is a very fun scent
The rule for community projects is that nobody else can tell you if you qualify for points…it is up to you! If you say you are taking points for whatever reason, you get the points. If you say you don’t deserve the points, you don’t get them.
Points can be redeemed at any time for a general sense of satisfaction and job well done ⭐
Not to over-think the CP, but…my immediate reaction was blue! Blue is my favorite color… But then I thought, favorite for what? I use various shades of blue plus apple green as accents in my home. The walls are currently white, but I’ve used a pale golden straw color before which is a favorite for walls. And for clothes, along with black and white, I actually wear a lot of this year’s pantone color of the year! So it appears I have quite a few favorite colors. Then I went with Cinema because LizzieB mentioned it. That works for the pale gold color. 😀
I have several favorite colors too…all cool shades (green, blue, purple, pink).
Today’s SOTD is Au Dela Narcisse, which I’ve had a crush on for a long time. I’ve gone through 3 little dabber samples so far and I think this needs to be my next purchase. I’ve always hesitated as it isn’t available anywhere I can find in Canada and the fx, shipping and duties will make it pretty darn pricy. It looks like Smallflower has it right now but I don’t know them. If it’s ok to ask, has anyone ordered from them?
Smallflower is great, absolutely trustworthy. They are connected with Merz Apothecary (brick and mortar) in Chicago.
I have ordered from Smallflower without any issues.
Robin, I hope it’s appropriate to post this request on behalf of Joan Ramirez.
Everybody, if you have a chance please go and write a reply to Joan Ramirez on the latest Bois De Jasmin’s recommend me a perfume thread. She is a little disappointed that I was the only one to reply about favorite scent and what it evokes, emotions and memories, it can be only a few words, she is writing a series of novels where perfumes are important, it starts during WW II. She includes her email if you’d like to reach out directly to her but it’s absoluely fine to just post a reply in recommend me a perfume.
Spent the day in Midnight in Paris, I keep forgetting that in fact I have a numer of masculine fragrances, tonight it’s K de Krizia, I like it as much as ever.
If it wasn’t for that pesky sprayerhead I’d wear K way more!LoveLove
We have the same predicament, and my back-up bottle is just as bad🥹 but this scent is so unique.
K de Krizia is an all time favorite. I wore it I believe in 1988. I had a dabber mini so no sprayer problems.
I emailed her with a few ideas. Yours was a good one!
Wonderful Chris, thank you, it’s a good exercise for us I find.
No problem. She was thankful and said she would let me know when her press release would be. Hope others will contact her.
Absolutely fine!
I am in FM Dans tes Bras. No color assoications for me from it. I really will have to ponder how to do this weeks theme.
It’s a pale pale green – or is that the colour of the perfume itself?
Joining you in pondering!
My favorite color to wear in terms of clothing is black (NYC all-black chic, yes), but oddly enough I am drawn to white or cream scents. Iris, musk and aldehydes evoke whiteness, while ylang and jasmine make me think of champagne gold.
Some candidates for the week:
1. Chanel 1957: My signature scent. It is a plush, fur pillow of white musks and iris. The ylang in this tints this cream rather than pure white.
2. Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere: Aldehydes give me a vision of blinding, sparkling white. Though the florals in this lends Eau Premiere a golden quality to my nose.
3. Diptyque Fleur de Peau: A straightforward clean musk and doughy iris to me. Probably the closest to pure white of a scent to me.
4. DSH Scent of Hope: The peach and suede in this tints it blush pink, but I just want an excuse to indulge in this iris.
5. Les Indemodables Musc de Sables: Creamy musk with a yellow tint that I’m still trying to figure out.
SOTD is the ruby-red vintage Chanel Egoiste Cologne Concentree. The fruits and rose is juicier in this flanker, and the sandalwood is creamer and more powdery. It is true to vintage EDT, but with all my favorite parts turned way up. Excellent stuff.
You have some great candidates for the week Pfsh.
That’s a beautiful list, and I love your color associations!
I agree with pl67, I have and love the first 3, which makes me think I need to try number 4&5.
Ohh if you love the first three, I would recommend trying #5 Musc de Sables! The Les Indemodables discovery set is well worth it.
#4 is a bit of a wildcard and much fruitier than the others.
I’m a bit challenged by the the question of my favourite colour, I like a lot of them. If I was really pushed, I’d say oranges and yellows, but also green and purple and pink. Blues might be further down the list, but I’ve picked a blue dress to wear today 🙂 .
The dress has got a pattern in green and yellow, so I’ve got several bases covered. It will go well with my recent purchase of Scherrer.
Well, strictly speaking the project itself is on Friday. So you could do favorite colors T-W-T and then your absolute favorite on Friday? That’s my current plan.
SOTD is Rogue Champs Lunaires. Very nice Tuberose. It reminds me of Fracas.
And Fracas is as pink to me as the inside of its packaging!
Well, then this should go with my favorite color of pink. Plus it has roses in it and roses are pink. Kind of makes sense😊
We are pink favorite twins!💕
Fracas is off-white to me.
Fracas is one of those neon colors from the 1980’s to me.
Wearing Eau de Magnolia, a white flower I find on the green side. BTW “Magnolia” in the UK means basic wall colour, rather like “builder’s beige” over this way.
Great tidbit, never heard that before. Magnolia sounds a lot more charming that builder’s beige somehow.
No CP points today, as I had already liberally spritzed on my dear Insolence edp before reading the idea. This CP is hard for me. I don’t associate colors with scent much and I can’t give a ready answer about my favorite color. Colors have more of a mood response for me. But I will give this a try! Just looking at my closet and at the color wheel, if I had to pick a favorite color, it would be something in the light teal-aqua-turquoise, blue-green family. Will happily latch onto other NST’ers ideas as I read comments! 😀
I don’t associate scent with color, either. It’s been fascinating reading everyone’s comments today.
Hello and Happy New Year!
1) SOTD: Delina- a lovely and hopeful rose scent for the new year. Overpriced AF and yet I do not regret it one bit.
2) At the end of 2022, I spent 3 weeks in Puerto Vallarta and I loved it. It took me back to be a child and my parents sending us away to Panama for the Christmas and Easter seasons. Yes, PVR is a tourist trappy, but the people were fun, the food was glorious and there was days and days of pure sunshine in the 80s (27s) .
3) The kitchen is 99% finished- I did the wallpaper as the trim, hung up the brass hooks, and everything looks and functions beautifully. The last bit will determining whether I install the end piece to enclose the refrigerator. The outlet for electricity and water are….weird, and I think I may need to cut a filler piece to allow that.
Good to see you Ede, your vacation sounds great!🌞
Late reply so don’t know if you’ll see it, but want to see recent pic of your kitchen!!
And hugely jealous of your 3 weeks in Puerto Vallarta.
*waves*
I need to take new pictures!
And yes- PVR was wonderful- and downright magical at Christmas.
So glad!
My favorite color is green, and purely by accident I’m in Chanel Eau de Cologne today. Had a doctors appointment this morning, so needed to go easy on the fumes. Surprisingly, I have enough options for the week!
Hopefully the appointment itself was easy too.
It was uneventful, just a yearly!
Hope that your medical appointment was short and uneventful.
It was fine, just setting up referrals!
I’m in PdN Vetyver, which leans a bit masculine on me but I still love it, especially on windy, gusty, damp days. Warming and cozy, it’s a “little log cabin in the middle of the wilderness” kind of perfume. Not in the way that it actually smells, but in the way that if feels. Warm. Snuggly. Safe.
On these kind of days, I always remember part of stanza 2 in a poem by Wallace Stevens:
“Passions of rain, or moods in falling snow;
Grievings in loneliness, or unsubdued
Elations when the forest blooms; gusty
Emotions on wet roads on autumn nights;
All pleasures and all pains, remembering
The bough of summer and the winter branch.
These are the measures destined for her soul.”
Happy Monday! 😀
That windy footage on Insta was great!
A little log cabin in the wilderness is my teenager’s life goal. Filled with books and dogs, she tells me.😅
Thanks! It’s incredibly windy and rainy here. In part, I think it’s the normal winter weather in the PNW. But, I also think the storms that are affecting Cali so severely are also sending some additional nastiness up this way. Makes for spectacular ocean views though! I hope your kiddo realizes her dream. It’s a good one to have! ☺️
SOTD is Iris de Gris. It’s called gris, but this one is gorgeously green to me. Green is definitely a color I love, but I love so many colors that I’ll aim to wear a rainbow of scents this week.
I’m doing a rainbow too 🙂
SOTD = Parfums de Marly Haltane
It’s a like, not a love, but the bottle color is GREEN!
I thought I would try to be ahead of the curve this time around as I was going to do a week of green. If my interpretation of green is of bottle color and / or packaging only, I definitely have more choices. As per my scrutiny of juice colors, I’ve found that some of what I thought were green were actually more yellow than green, which makes sense considering one gets green from a combination of blue and yellow. As usual, I’ve over thought the CP and will stop here just to enjoy the color green!
I bet I know what the green queen on Friday will be!💚😉
You never know 😉
What’s your SOTD like?
It’s a gorgeous summer day in Sydney Australia, sunny with a max of 25oC, so a perfect day to open my newly acquired Nicolai Riviera Verbena. RV is just the perfect citrus and herbal cologne and I want to be able to bathe in it – I imagine lying in a cool soaking bath beside which I have a glass of chilled white wine filled with ice cubes, or better yet, have that glass delivered by a swarthy Mediterranean beau. In the absence of this (him), a saltwater harbour pool has just opened up very near where I work so I will instead indulge in an after work swim followed by liberal spritzes of the scent before I don an apres-swim sarong.
I happily acquired a bottle on a recent visit to the tiny Nicolai boutique on the Fulham Road in London – honestly, the sales assistant and me just about filled the shop. Your mention of Osmanthus reminds me that I also visited the just as tiny OJ boutique in the Royal Arcade and walked out with the big bottle of Evernia – Linda’s celebration of Oakmoss which my partner loved so it became my Christmas present to him. I commended myself for my restraint in visiting only 2 of the perfumers I’ve really loved over time. I guess the first overseas trip after three long COVID years makes you reassess your fragrance wardrobe priorities!
Congrats on the new acquisitions!
It’s also Jimmy Page’s birthday today. He is 79 years cool.😎
If you looked in my closet, you’d think that my favorite color was black, but it’s actually pink. Blame it on the 80’s. lol. I even had a pair of pink reeboks back in the day. Back when you ordered something by catalog! From an order form that came in the center that you filled in and mailed in with a check. Then it was a surprise to see when it would arrive. I miss a lot of things about my youth, but I don’t miss that. I love being able to order things online and track their arrival.
Anyway! Pefume: I’m in Heeley Poudre Blanc from a rapidly evaporating decant. This juice is just ever so slightly pink.
The sun was out today!🌞 I was so happy, I went for a lunchtime walk.
79 years cool.. I like that!
I remember having an argument in 10th grade with a guy about who was a better guitar player. Jimmy Page or Mick Mars. Lol ( I was pro JP) also no offense to Mick Mars, but c’mon.
LOL! I remember those kinds of arguments at that age.
Yeah.. I should have said HEATED argument. Lol.
Ha! That’s awesome.😆 and of course you were right.
I remember when people were freaking out that Van Halen had decided to use synthesizers in their music! LOL!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/KQetemT1sWc
The sun was out today, w00t w00t w00t! I savored every single minute of those blue skies since the clouds will return sooner or later. 🌞🌞🌞
I don’t have a single favorite color. I like a chunk of the color wheel that goes from pinks and reds thru purples and into blues. I prefer jewel tones over pastels for the most part. So I might pick a perfume that represents one of those 3 major color groups for the CP.
SOTD = still hanging out in Rose Anonyme. 🌹🌹🌹
I saw some sun today too!🌞
Wasn’t it great?!?
It was awesome!
Sun here too!🌞🌞🌞
Blue sky triplets, yay! 💙
And here too … I thought it was going to snow,
There were rumors about snow flurries overnight here, but you couldn’t prove that any flakes fell here! ❄
I am a sucker for anything that is a deep burgundy color. I’m still thinking of a perfume match. Today I am wearing TM Miroir des Majesteax.
Samsara, or maybe a deep, dark rose perfume for burgundy? Something like Tauer’s Une Rose Chypree?
I actually immediately thought of Samsara. I don’t have any Tauer but will go through my samples for other candidates.
NR for Her L’Absolu?
It’s on the list!
Oooh, I love deep burgundy, although, of course, not as much as I love green!
This winter I was able to find a pair of burgundy Winter boots that are actually comfortable! I am wearing them now.
Those boots sound awesome! Uncomfortable and leaky winter boots are a reason why I wore sneakers in snow for many years…
That’s one of my favorite colors, too. I have a pair of boots that color being delivered tomorrow.
SOTD was Hermes’ Santal Massoia. I grabbed it because it’s so easy to wear on a workday in the office, and because I have it in a nice travel size. It has been great all day! Still smells great, ten hours later.
P.S. It has nothing to do with colors, lol. My favorite color overall is blue, so there are some options. My favorite colors in roses are pale pink, coral, apricot, so we’ll see what I come up with!
Favorite color is Kelly Green. I don’t wear the color well but it has always spoken to me.
Now to find perfumes to match….I might have to decant some Tempo a la hajusuuri to see if it turns green…
Today I’m sampling Les Abstraits La Douleur Exquise, the new Antoine Lie fragrance for Les Abstraits and a Persolaise Top Ten for 2022. He calls it a cross between PoaL and Bandit. And it is.
Coriandre, but it’s rare these days.
