PSA: the swapmeet is open through Tuesday!
Meantime, we're celebrating the last weekend in September with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're going to put away for the winter soon, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I am trying Moon Bloom from a sample. It’s very nice, but reminds me a lot of Gucci Bloom. Guess no need for a FB since I already have Gucci.
My question for the weekend is what is your opinion of the Zoologist fragrances? I tested Bee and Civet this week and really enjoyed both of them. FB worth? Maybe.
I have put all my spring/summer scents away. Like I said the other day, I am already missing some of them.
I really like Zoologist. The scents are complex and interesting. I own 5! I still haven’t gotten to test Cow or Scared Scarab but someday soon…
Interested in which ones you own. Glad to hear you like the brand too.
I own Hummingbird, Nightingale, Chameleon, Bee and Civet. I was thinking about which was my favourite but I couldn’t choose!
I’m also a fan of Zoologist. I don’t always love their scents, but find them worth trying. The concept is interesting to me and I’m impressed that one man (Victor Wong) in Canada started up such a project on his own and has built it up successfully, recruiting a number of distinguished perfumers along the way. Their packaging and designs are elegant and clever, and Victor always writes you a personal note in the box. I like the fact that he makes smaller-sized travel bottles too. I believe I own three of the regular bottles and maybe five of the travel bottles. Some of them are a bit too far out there for me to like (Squid, Sloth, and Hyrax for instance) and a few are too sweet (Hummingbird and Nightingale). For some reason, Cow had a note that put me off. Chipmunk, Bee, and Camel strike me as fairly easy to love. I am glad to own the original Bat, which was unusual and striking. My personal favorites are Civet, Dragonfly, Moth, and (yes) Tyrannosaurus Rex, which goes on VERY strong but has a dreamy dry-down. Their website includes useful information such as lengthy interviews with perfumers about the collaborative process they go through with Wong. I was disappointed in Sacred Scarab (ok but more bland than I expected) and haven’t yet tried Cockatiel. Elephant was an interesting case for me: I got it to try in just a small sample from Luckyscent, and used up that sample and ordered another, and gradually became more and more attached to it. Sometimes something unexpected there can grow on you. Conclusion: it’s a line worth trying, often novel and interesting, and I applaud Victor for all of his creative enterprise.
This is great information. Thanks so much💕
Seconded! Thank you!
I really like the line, but have yet to pull the trigger on a bottle of any of them. I’ve sampled Bee (lovely, very honey-like without being too sweet) Civet (it exhausted me), Musk Deer (reminded me of Musc Rav, which I love), Elephant (liked a lot, even with the coconut note). There are others, but those stand out in my memory.
Uh oh, wrong place!
No problem. I haven’t purchased a FB either, but pondering the idea.
Oh, I forgot about Musk Deer, which I love and have a FB of. Thanks for the reminder. It does remind me a lot of MR, but somehow seems slightly easier to wear.
I have FB of Bee, T-Rex and Sacred Scarab (which I will split). I liked most of the rest and as calypso said, they are all worth trying. Cow I couldn’t smell at all which is unusual.
I have noticed Bee is quite popular here.
Please count me in for your Sacred Scarab split, whenever you do it!
I also meant to mention that you should wear anything you like, even if out of season! When I am WFH, I wear pretty much anything. In office days are more complicated.
I agree, but some of my “summer” fragrances seem a little too light for cool weather.
I’m a Zoologist fan, too. I love the travel sizes and own Civet, Bee, Hummingbird, Moth and Cow and would like to add Elephant and Chameleon. I like to try everything Victor puts out there but there are a few that I had to scrub, including T Rex and Squid. Really like Chipmunk but it smells very similar to some perfumes I already have. I need to order samples of Cockatiel and Sacred Scarab.
Seem to be a lot of fans here. I just tried the Bee and Civet and loved both of them. I will need to look at some of the others I guess😊
Ugh, I found Squid to be quite nauseating.
I will be the voice of dissent about Zoologist. I haven’t found anything so far that is travel spray worthy, let alone FBW. More for the people who love it!
We all have different tastes. I see people rave about Hermes and I haven’t found one of those I am particularly fond of yet. Nor with Guerlain. Probably just me. Sometimes I think I am the odd one of the group.
As perfumistas, we could all be considered “a little odd”, LOL!
And it took quite a while for me to find something that was FBW from Hermes. Several years…
What was it, just out of curiosity?
Eau de Neroli Dore EdC. It was one of my “Summer 2022 Scents”. For some reason, this year it made me ridiculously happy whenever I wore it.
Me too, I’m the same with Chanel. Only one I love is Coco.
Zoologist is hit or miss for me. I’ve found many of the more recent ones pretty meh and average smelling and I have backed off on considering their new releases must smells because of it. I do want to try new releases eventually but tend not to have super high hopes. My favorites are Civet and Bee and I also like Nightingale, T-Rex, Hyrax (though it’s really intense) and original Bat and Dragonfly.
I really liked Bee and Civet too. Looked up the others and not sure I have interest in any others right now
I decided after the discussion of Zoologist yesterday to wear Dragonfly and it was actually a nice choice for the hot weather! It had the light touch of its namesake!
I decided after the discussion to order two travel sprays. Doesn’t take much to persuade me!
Which ones? Inquiring minds want to know!
The two I tried-Bee and Civet.
Happy weekend!
Sotd is L’Ombre dans l’Eau.
I will be putting away anything citrusy or aquatic (not much in my collection though). I am moving my woody, oudy, amber ones to the front. It’s been a long time coming.
I was just feeling peckish and I watched a youtube mukbang video where a lady ate a 10kg fish in one sitting. I felt full just watching her (and felt jealous of her metabolism). I wonder how long she waited until her next meal…
LOL. I am full now too.
Me three!
Wow, that is a lot of fish!
10kg is a lot of ANYTHING! 😳 Not sure how it’s physically possible..? 10kg = 22lbs—-😅
We’re having a last gasp (or roar, really) of summer here and it’s tough to put on any scent in this heat. Yesterday I wore L’Artisan Cote d’Amour, which is just a beautiful “salty” scent. Unfortunately it fades too quickly. Not sure what I’ll wear today or even whether I’ll indulge at all. I’m taking around a visiting professor friend of mine and his daughter, an art history student, to the Menil Museum and related venues near it, and out for lunch at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Hope I can manage in this heat! It’s supposed to break for us, mid-week the coming week, and we are all SO ready for a bit of a “cold front” (reducing temps from the 90s to the 80s, ha ha!).
Enjoy the Menil and lunch–good activities to distract you & your company from the heat, I hope!
We had a good time, and a fortuitous occurrence was that when my friend’s daughter expressed a longing for ice cream, I found us a place! It is a new place that is where an old Marble Slab used to be. I hadn’t tried it but it had wonderful gelato and yogurt in amazing flavors, including mango, hatch chili (!), black sesame seed, goat cheese, baklava, and more! It was called Sweet Cup, for Houston people, and I gather they have several branches around town. This is the one on Montrose, near the Menil.
I’ve been obsessively checking the forecast. Can’t wait for things to cool off.
Can’t believe its officially Autumn as of yesterday.
I’m wearing Ambra di Luna from Monegal today. Embracing and cozy.
I can’t believe it either. I want another summer already. We are not alone…spent much of yesterday booking a February vacation and boy are the hotspots booked solid already! Usually I don’t do this until October and have no problem.
Yay for official autumn. For once I was underdressed for my commute but I am stubborn when it comes to when I should start wearing a jacket (October) and gloves (November) but I may need to cave at some point and let the weather gods determine my outfit.
Double YAY for autumn!
Hurricane Fiona pretty much missed me — just some scary rain and wind overnight, not so much as a flicker of the electricity — but it ripped other parts of the region to tatters: Prince Edward Island is not looking so good, with over 95% of the population losing their power, and Port aux Basques in Newfoundland had entire houses ripped from their foundations and washed away. It might be the worst weather to hit the region in recorded history (and I was in Halifax for Hurricane Juan in 2003 — I wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a worse storm than that).
Today, for no reason other than I saw it in the cabinet and thought it seemed like a good idea, I’m wearing late-nineties Samsara EDT, so calming.
So glad you kept power! Was just looking at pictures of Nova Scotia and PEI, amazing.
So glad it missed you! Being from Florida, seeing something like that bear down on you is terrifying. I’m hoping a lot of those harder hit areas had people evacuate before it was too late…
And now there’s a new one on track for Florida! Living here along the Gulf Coast of Texas, we always watch those storm forecast maps with trepidation, too.
I saw that! And it’s headed for my old stomping grounds. Worried for friends there but so happy I sold my home and don’t have that long distance anxiety…
Hurray for a big miss from Fiona!
Glad that it missed you!
I just received a decant of “vintage” Fidji. Does anyone know if the current version is good? Because I loved it at first sniff and I need a full bottle.
How cool! I had a bottle years ago but can really barely remember it, hope someone can help.
Any chance you live in Canada? Because I have a four-ounce bottle of actual seventies Fidji EDT that I have no earthly use for. Gorgeous, but not at all my thing. You can email me at [username] dot nb at gmail dot com if you want to talk.
Oh my so lucky!
I wore Fidji on my wedding day July 1974.
Wearing Guerlain AA Ginger Piccante.
Cold, windy and uncomfortable weather for me today. Whoever has very hot temperatures, please send a bit of that heat over here!
I had the flu shot and the bivalent Covid booster yesterday. I was expecting a tough day today, but except for a mild pain in my Covid booster arm, I am feeling good, which I really appreciate.
Spending the weekend running errands and keeping the decluttering, which seems to be taking forever. One weekend at a time….
Happy and healthy weekend, everyone! 🍁🍂
Oh yay!!! So glad you did not have it worse.
I am supposed to get my first shingles shot on Tuesday and can’t decide if I should put it off since my energy is not 100% after covid, or if I should just get it over with.
Get it!
Shingles can go to your eyesight…not a good scenario.
I am 51 and didn’t suffer with any bothersome side effects post vaccination.
I would say “get it”. The side effects are not so bad for some people. I was thinking about having the flu and covid booster a couple of weeks apart fearing that the side effects from both vaccines together were going to be very rough. However, I decided to be done with it at once and forget about it. I usually schedule my vaccines for Fridays, so in case I don’t feel good I have the weekend to rest.
I just got my second shot last week. It hurt; my arm hurt for two days but other than that it wasn’t bad.
I’ll say postpone it for a little bit only because your immune defenses are still probably down with your COVID encounter. While the effects of the shingles vax may be mild, it may be enhanced given the condition of your body. There’s no best or worst times to get it except that it’s best to get it. Just my humble opinion from a non-medical person.
I’m going to agree with hajusuuri on this one — but if you can ask your own doc, that may help you decide and feel secure in the decision.
Also, definitely fewer side effects for me with the bivalent booster vs. the other ones. By about 26 hours post-shot I was feeling great, and had none of the bad chills or the super-sore arm I got before.
Thanks everyone! I might wait and decide on Monday if I should put it off one more week. I will definitely get the shot but would like to be very close to normal before I do.
I had no reaction first Shingles shot, but I did feel bad after the second shot. I’d also say to let your immune system calm down. I was told to wait at least two weeks after COVID vax to get shingles vax. And I’m hearing it’s best to wait 3 mos after having COVID to get a COVID booster.
We put the heat on this morning as it was only 37 degrees ❄️❄️❄️
Wow!!
Freezing in your area!
Oh brrr!
Yeeeeeek! 🥶
Brace yourself and I’ll point the Houston blast furnace in your direction. 🥵
Oh my! I feel really bad for the burning temps you have been enduring. I should actually send you some of our cool temperatures instead.
You’re so sweet, pl67! We’ll all muddle through. 🤗
I hope the side effects are minimal! A good excuse to take it easy.
I hear you on the decluttering; it’s never-ending for me as well. For some reason my office seems to need another go-through.
I am so glad that my only side effect was only mild pain in the left arm. By now it is gone.
Decluttering is a very tough task and sometimes I get very impatient.
Have a great weekend!
Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌻
Some friends of mine got the bivalent booster today. They were rather out of it as a result.
Misia today
Farmers market
Reading Renault
Purchased more makeup this week. Things I do under stress
My hair had been really dry and I am trying to grow it long for an event later this year. I have used the same shampoo for eons. Anyone have anything for dry colored treated hair?
I have been using hair oil treatments once a week to help my dry scalp/hair….good results. I just use Bioassance squaline oil, but there are many on the market.
I love Aveda Botanical Repair, the shampoo and the strengthening conditioner. It is too heavy for my hair in the summer (weighs it down) but perfect once it starts to get cold and dry…it is the best thing I’ve ever found for my dry, colored, frizz-prone hair.
But oomph is it spendy. They do sell travel sizes so you can try it, but even those are ridiculously priced.
Very smelly. I love the smell but my husband hates it.
Seems ridiculous but a spendy hair dryer also made a huge difference for me. Tried my mom’s BabylissPro Nano Titanium Dryer and could not believe what a difference it made…hair dries faster, less frizz, seems less dried out. My sister then tried mine and ended up buying one too. BBB had them cheaper for awhile but even there it was something like $70 with a coupon, which seems crazy to me for a hair dryer.
I say try the Shu Uemura hair products. Also, when towel drying your hair, I suggest using a T-shirt as it will make your hair less damp but provide a smoother finish. I tried it a few years ago just because I wanted to try it but after 2 months of doing this, my hair got too smooth – not that this is a problem but I wanted more body so I’m back to using regular towels.
So what did you buy???? (I hope it was some of the new Chanel fall colors…)
I got the tweed Brun et Rose quad.
It’s very lovely
Ooh, yes, it is!!! I’ve completely abandoned eyeshadow, except for the occasional dusting of skin-toned shadow to even things out. I do miss it — and I hope you enjoy those beautiful colors!
Bumble and Bumble makes a range of products called “Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil” that I used when I got highlights on a regular basis. They’re light but hydrating. Both Sephora and ULTA carry them.
I bought a new lippy yesterday too, makeup is self care.☺️
My hairdresser recommended the Surface brand to me and I’ve been using their ‘Trinity’ line even though I don’t have color treated hair and love it. They also have a ‘Moisture’ line which she (my hairdresser) says is good. You can order directly from their website surfacehair.com. They’re Canadian!😀
my only scent right now is Meyers Fall Leaves which lingers forever on my hands after they are washed. It’s the cedar note that is predominant in this fragrance and reminds me of SSS Wood Violet. I wish Mrs. meyers started making fragrances to wear 🙂 There are so many that I love, including Bluebell and Peony.
and I am not rotating anything. Most of the bottles are kept in the basement, where it is dark, dry and cool in a place where my whole family can “shop”.
I’ve always been struck by how kind you are to share your treasures with your girls. 😊
Aw, thanks Nancy. My son and parents “shop” there as well. I know I can’t take it with me so I would much rather see them all enjoy it while I am alive. Needless to say, lots of thunkin’ going on in my house 😉
Wow, that is a long lasting hand wash!
yes and the dish soap scents up my whole kitchen!!!
Hello
I washed a shirt that was sprayed with Primo & the scent didn’t come out..so wearing-sort of-Primo lol.
Gunna be about 100f today warming up from last week. Lots of beverage for the heat. Rn having a cream soda..looks like they have frozen Coke here too. Mmm. Got new range covers for my stove cause they get yucky and worn. Now, I just have to clean my house…so not motivated lol.
Omega, I am doing a weekend of chores after doing basically nothing for 2 weeks while I was getting over covid. I am NOT enjoying it!
Good luck with that heat, that’s crazy.
It’s good you are doing better though:). I have no excuse except my mood has been wonky.
Wonky mood is as good an excuse as any, imho. Hope things get better.
Unmotivated house work twins (or it is triplets at this point?).
Recoved from flu and covid shots. Arms still a bit sore.
I TOOK THE LEAP and made a surgery appt for a face and neck lift on Jan 30 2023. My sister the nurse will come and be my nurse.
That means whoa maybe one fragrance purchase to get me though the end of year.
Donatella would approve of all.
Hair and mani pedi today.
SOTD will be Paris Paris for another heat wave in SoCal.
Congratulations on your upcoming face lift. My sister had one and looks fabulous!
My sister has already had hers done, too.
Donatella would definitely approve of all!
Wow, that’s very exciting! How lucky that your sister is a nurse.
Oh yes
It’s the best
My sainted brother in law was also a nurse practitioner.
He was her nurse when she had her face lift.
Congratulations! And thank goodness your sister will be able to help you, post procedure.
Slowdive for me today. So pretty for a cool but sunny autumn day.
Cool & sunny here too…wish I was out bike riding, but chores instead.
You smell lovely! I almost put that on today.
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar MVP
I missed posting yesterday and have not even read comments. I wore Tauer Dark Passage yesterday – so good.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci5kD8LOqei/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I am supremely annoyed at Guerlain not having a handle on their inventory. My order was cancelled so I am now back to being on a list.
Tip of the day in case you don’t know already — when you get a prescription that comes in those amber-colored plastic bottles with a childproof white caps, you can flip the cap over, screw it on and still seal the bottle. The next time you use it, it’s a simple twist without having to push and unscrew. Of course don’t do this if you have young ones that could get into the drugs.
I think everyone who ordered is annoyed with Guerlain! Hope you all get your bottles soon.
Do you think people were buying multiples to re-sell?
Yes.☹️ There’s already been bottles on the bay for almost 4 times what they are retailing for.
I hate those people. I am all for making a buck but have some ethics.
I hope nobody buys them.
This is funny! When I ordered my MVP bottle from Guerlain last year, it never came and I received no shipping info. Finally emailed them to ask what’s up and the reply was they wouldn’t t ship to my address because it’s a “mail service” address and judged these recipients to be committing fraud and/or buying multiple bottles and making revenue off Guerlain products…Finally got a bottle from the Bellagio in Las Vegas, who had no problem shipping to my “mail service.”
Now I’m intrigued and off to Google – I clearly need to pay more attention!
I’m wearing Mistral Patchouli this morning. It always strikes me as particularly beautiful in autumn though I wear it all year.
Robin, I’m glad to hear you continue to improve. My shingles vax gave me a very sore arm and fatigue but no other symptoms.
Thank you foxbins! I am nearly there. It is adding to the fatigue that I am worried about, I am nearly normal and no longer needing to nap, but I am wiped out by evening. We went out to dinner with friends on Thursday and even though it was early, I was just exhausted.
And you do smell great.
It will hopefully get better Robin – I only lost the fatigue after five weeks. Try to rest as much as you can and more then you think is necessary!
Thanks yasmina! Actually today I am nearly normal and it will be the first day I make my steps goal since this started. Onwards and upwards….
Wearing Comme de Garcons Kyoto today. Just wrapping up some tasks and errands on tail end of some time off. I am holding myself to 2-3 new bottles of perfume a year and Kyoto was my second purchase of 2022 and I quite enjoy it.
Vacations are the only time I read books, generally, and I will need to finish A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles before I head back to work. A friend of mine gave me this, after I lamented that I had been finding a lot of fiction works to be disappointing, like I am reading “young adult” category of fiction. She made a great choice for me – my husband is even reading the book when I set it down.
It is still well into the 90’s here but fall is my favorite season, when I know the really scorching weather is finally behind me, for another 8 months or so.
I used to like oriental and gourmand fragrances when I first got into perfumes in my 20’s, now not so much. I wonder if the shift in taste is due to aging or just shift in preference. Or maybe because I lived in the much cooler climate of the Northeast when I first started getting into perfume and now I live in Texas.
You smell wonderful today.
I really enjoyed that novel — though I listened to the audio recording. It kept me company through many a pandemic walk.
You smell so good, great purchase!
Wearing Wazamba today. The weather here is perfect for early fall: 68F with a sunny breeze. I don’t rotate my perfume either. It’s all in the same closed cabinet and I like to wear most things year round.
Ditto on the weather and the year-round perfume cabinet 🙂
Wazaaaaaambaaaaaah
You smell great!
In TDC Bois d’Iris, which I will probably thunk by Thanksgiving. It’s the 50 ml bottle; I will probably repurchase when it’s gone (though I haven’t checked the price) and may split the next time the meet comes around.
I made apple cider doughnuts today (baked) — very nice, though I made some of them too large and they ended up a little stodgy for my taste (though fully baked); Mr. Skal enjoyed them. It’s a NY Times recipe behind a paywall, so I won’t bother with the link. I am not crazy about cider or even, really, about apples, but I live in the heart of NY State apple country (and very close to the Cornell ag station, where lists of lovely varieties have been developed — both Honeycrisp and Sweet Tango IIRC), so there comes a point when apple-something-or-other needs to be made!
My thanks to the Cornell ag station as Honeycrisp apples are by far my favorite apples. ❤️🍎 ❤️
I love cider donuts. Happy that they’re available here in WI. We have cherry donuts in early summer and then the apple ones show up in August. We’re in Sweetango season ourselves…so so good.
I’m pretty sure the Honeycrisp was actually created at The University of Minnesota.😬
Yes, you’re right!
I only know this because of its midwestern “roots.”☺️
I’m in Teo Cabanel Je Ne Sais Quoi, which is lovely, soft and comforting. Just what I need right now. I found the sample when I was rooting around in my shipping supplies. I’d completely missed it when I first opened the box!
It’s been a rocky couple of weeks. My best friend’s stepson passed away suddenly; he was only in his thirties. Then last week, a friend died after being in a terrible auto accident. He lived in the apartment right across from me, so I saw him all the time. I’m in a 55+ building, and we have a close knit community. We’re just shocked, really. Y’all, pleasepleaseplease always wear your seatbelts! 😢
I’m sorry for your losses, Nancyleandros. Sending you a big hug.
I left you some misplaced condolences below. I’m sorry for your losses.
Nancyleandros, that is a lot of loss in a short period of time. I’m so sorry.
I’m so very sorry. That’s a lot of pain and sorrow.
I am so sorry Nancyleandros.
I am so deeply sorry, Nancyleandros. Sending comforting hugs.
I’m so sorry nl.
Thank you all for the kind words of support. You are good people. ❤️
Hugs, and my condolences.
I’m so sorry, Nancyleandros. My sympathy to you and to your friends and neighbors.
That’s a lot Nancyleandros. I’m so sorry.
Hugs. That’s a lot to take in.
What a lot of loss to experience in a short time, my heart goes out to you.
I’m very sorry to hear all this. Since I’m getting more mobile, perhaps we can do another perfume lunch and some sniffing before long. I’d be up for lunch near and shopping at Kuhl-Linscomb. I believe their offerings have been expanded, in fact. Not sure I”m ready yet to tackle the Galleria. We can get in touch on text. It would be fun to see you and chat and sniff together!
I’d love to get out for a sniff! I’ve missed seeing you. This week is packed, but I’ll text you soon. 😊
Hello all!
Racing (in the passenger seat) to wedding today. Wearing Le Labo Poivre 23. I finally caved and bought myself a tiny bottle. In my collection it will probably last me 50 years, even if my instinct is always to buy the biggest size possible. Love the sweet spicy warmth.
Have a great day everyone.
Have fun at the wedding!
2nd that, and hope you made it on time!
Have a wonderful time!
Hope you made it! And had a great time!
Maybe you can join nancyleandros and me for a perfume lunch someday?
Just finished packing my swaps and freebies and wafting pretty in Bengale Rouge remnants from last night. That stuff is strong! And so so good
That stuff is so lovely! One of my all time, home run, touch down, SCORE! favorite anytime, anywhere scents. Waft on!
I know you love it! Seeing you post about it definitely influenced me
It’s a beautiful fall day here although tbh it’s also rather chilly for me. I’m already contemplating the purchase of a a new puffer coat.
I’m wearing Millésime Tonka. I really hope everyone who tried to buy it will eventually succeed!
I know I’ll never own it, but I’m curious – what’s it like?
The first thing that comes to mind is that it’s beautifully blended. I struggle with the original Shalimar, and this is lacking the elements that I find troublesome – the hint of gasoline and dense bergamot. It bears a slight resemblance, but is less exotic and smoother on my skin. I was expecting a heavier amber accord, but it’s gentle and the tonka is a nice compliment – warm and slightly powdery with a hint of dry cocoa and a touch of bitter almond that is also nutty. I can’t pick out any of the florals listed on Fragrantica on my skin, but it’s more than the sum of its parts. I’m really enjoying it!
Thanks for the mini review!
You’re welcome!
It sounds simply lovely. I’m so glad you were able to get it! Thanks for the review. 😊
Aw, thank you!
You should do perfume reviews, as you write so well about it.
What a lovely thing to say! Thank you, Calypso.
That Millesime Tonka sounds lovely, and I am not a Shalimar person.
I think it’s lovely, and I’m not a Shalimar person either. Of course, one could argue that this is rather a far cry from Shalimar, so I’m wondering how those who love the original will respond to this one. Perhaps Claire from takeonethingoff will do a review as she did for MVP.
Happy Weekend! Wearing Insolence edt today. I needed something a bit fun. The sun is shining but it is cool inside the house; I had to change my top for a long sleeve since it seems too early for putting on the heat.
You do smell fun!
Thank you, LizzieB!
I am fighting turning on the heat. I decided to bake some chicken instead. The house temperature went up 1 degree.. lol.
Well, you might as well get another benefit from cooking. In the past I’ve baked cookies just to have the oven on all afternoon!
Lol. Glad it’s not just me! I wanted to turn the heat on too. Actual conversation in our house:
Me: I’m turning on the heat
Ye Who Shall Remain Nameless: IT’S SEPTEMBER!
Me: That’s not relevant. If it’s cold, it’s cold. I don’t care if it’s January or July.
Hmph. I took a hot shower and put on some wool socks.
Ha, I can relate to that conversation! I’m usually the one not wanting to turn on the heat, though. That (old) furnace smell just doesn’t fit when the majority of the trees are still green.
I hate the old furnace smell. It’s the second reason I don’t want to turn it on yet. The first reason is the bill!
It got into the 40’s here last night. I had no shame whatsoever putting on the heat. Especially since the cats seem to feel cold more than I do.
Yikes, that’s cold, especially for this time of year! I’m sure the cats are feeling that low temperature.
In Darcy again. Can’t make up mind about this one.
Just finished listening to the audio version of Friday’s Child by Georgette Heyer, which I absolutely loved. Someone here suggested it. Thank you! I had to get over the gawdawful graphic on the cover, but I am so glad I did. If you love Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, Judy Holiday-style comedies, circa 1940s-1950s (and don’t mind the gender stereotypes), you will very much enjoy this audio book. It starts out a tad slow, but quickly picks up. Written contemporaneously with those movies, it could easily have been the basis for a screenplay starring any of those actors.
I don’t usually feel like I need to replace perfumes when they are finished, preferring to move on to try something new. But. There are some I do replace. I replaced my l’Heure Bleue, I always have Coco. And now I am looking down the barrel, bottle, to the end of my Boy. Not sure I am ready to pull the trigger. Maybe?
Perhaps it could be a holiday present from a loved one who needs hints?
I feel like Boy is a staple for you. I vote to get it👍
Ahhhh… back home after wedding-palooza (niece’s destination wedding, it was fun, but I still say a pox on those things, the event could’ve been just as much fun in 2 days not 5), and now I’m recovering from whatever plague I picked up. Not covid, just a cold apparently, all those usual bugs still exist, don’t they? No scent today, not feeling it with my sniffles. Just doing chores… most of my vacation laundry is done, and I am hanging out with the cat who is happy we’re home and has stuffed himself behind me on the office chair. He’s just helping me work on my posture… right.
It’s sunny and warm here (upper 80s) so not yet time for putting away the summer scents. Soon though, I hope.
My niece’s new husband expressed some curiosity about scent while we were visiting with them, I am pondering what decants to send him. He knows nothing about perfume but is a professional chef, so is attuned to scents and tastes in the kitchen. Any suggestions?

Welcome back! Glad it was a nice time.
Fat Electrician? Or Vetiver Tonka?
I was thinking Fat Electrician as well. It seems like a good entry dr/perfume.
My husband has recently become interested in scent, trying them at bedtime. He was a chef too, in his post-college years, and is quite sensitive to scent. I would suggest starting your new nephew off with samples of fragrances that blend recognizable “food” items (basil, almond, chocolate, lemon, etc) with woods or vetiver or maybe fern or leather, to keep slightly on the masculine side. Chanel’s Paris-Deauville (for basil) and Dior’s Escale a Portofino (for almond and lemon) come to mind. Or Equistrius, for its cocoa note. Fun!
I like this!
I’m back at my father-in-law’s house as a caretaker. Autumn weather is here full strength, and I am living for this jeans/ sweatshirt/ sneakers/ light jacket weather. My SOTD is Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I’m dipping in and out of online media, so I’ve been absent a lot but I’m catching up on posts.
How is he doing?
His next round of chemo keeps getting postponed because he’s not ready for it, so I’m not sure. He’s definitely impatient!
Sending you both the best of good wishes!
Sending good vibes only…🌹🌹🌹❣️✌🏻
Happy weekend! Summer has returned here (grrr!) so I’m wearing Assam of India today. Very soapy at the opening on me. Never noticed that before and not sure how I feel about it…
Worked at an inpatient hospice facility last night with a great group of nurses who were so welcoming and helpful. But, seeing a musically talented 48 year old in perfect health other than being riddled with metastatic cancer reinforced to me the need to not put a single thing off. Terribly tragic situation. I don’t think I could work in that area on a full time basis (although I did in the past) at this point in my life. I think as aging brings you closer to your own personal precipice, it makes you more empathetic to others who have already started the process.
Another patient who was elderly (90!), demented and confused grabbed my scrub top as we were repositioning her, pulled my down to her face, and whispered in my ear “Can you call God for me?” 💔
Seize the day Perfume People! Seize the day!
Oh Deva 💔
You are so right.
I can’t tell you how grateful I am for healthcare workers. You all rock.
I totally agree. I went into medicine decades ago and seeing tragedy on an everyday basis really makes me appreciate life. I want to scream at people who waste time arguing about trivial matters and focus on the negative aspects of their environment rather than appreciating life.
Some of my most inspirational patients are elderly people who have overcome incredible adversity and suffering but look at each day as a gift, maintain a positive attitude and treasure their family and friends.
Cancer sucks.
So very true, Deva. Tomorrow is promised to no one. It’s sad, urgent and somehow freeing at the same time.
Dementia sucks.
Thank you for this poignant reminder, Deva.
The elderly dementia patient makes me think of my mom, my prayer is that she is spared. Heartbreaking.
Thanks to all you and all healthcare workers 🌹
Yes,as I learned this year as well,Seize the day!
Or as one of my patients once said:”seize the day before you seizure!”🌹
Slept poorly so didn’t get up early enough to visit the farmers’ market here. Oh well. Another time. After an extraordinarily slow breakfast, we went to the zoo. Great fun. Tiger on the move, playing in the water and carrying a cardboard box around. At the end of the day, they’re still cats. Lions were also lovely. Many of the animals were quite active, which was a treat.
Forgot to spritz something on, but I will rectify that for dinner. Thinking Mon Guerlain Intense, courtesy of an NSTer. I did get a shipping confirm on the Shalimar flanker, so that was nice. I had to input the market where I work address, since my home address wasn’t recognizable. Geez…it’s been 18 mos folks…update property records. No idea what database they look at, but it’s the second time that’s happened.
So sorry the weather has been dreary.😞But glad you enjoyed the zoo! Did you see the polar bears? I think it’s a pretty good zoo, considering it’s free. I actually prefer it to the Milwaukee zoo which is huge, crowded, expensive and a pita to park.
We did see the polar bears. One was lounging. The other was attacking a big branch…broke it then was digging and scratching. My guess is he was finding bugs or something for a snack. Entertaining. It is a very nice zoo.
What zoo is it? Just curious.

High five for shipping confirmation on the Shalimar!
Computer issues this weekend.
My ISP did a software update/replacement, and now most of my email is unavailable. They did say, “Hey, we are going to replace this. Your email might be unavailable. But we will send you directions and a link to fix things after we have replaced the thing.”
Um, how in the hell am I going to access my email for the fix if I can’t get it? Smooth move there. We shall see how long it takes to resolve this crap.
SOTD (and my kvetching) = SSS Incense Pure again.
Ugh… I hope you get your email instructions somehow!
Oh know! I have no idea how to resolve stuff like that.😨 I totally rely on my kids to help me out.
Maybe just set your kitties on the keyboard? JK. It’s a pain the 🍑.
You smell great in SSS Incense Pure.
Oh, what a pain in the arse! I hope it’s resolved soon. Meanwhile, you smell great.
Oh no! Technical things are the worst; you have my sympathies! The old desktop did an update and now everything is so slow. So much for progress!
My goodness…so sorry.
I had the day off and went to see the new baby again. I held him the entire time!
My sotd was TBS White Musk Smoky Rose. It’s just so easy to wear when nothing else is calling my name.
I just posted some things for the swapmeet.
Aww, new baby snuggles.☺️
Sounds cute! Glad you had the day off!
Nothing like new baby feels and smells!
It’s so nice to bond with new little family members. ❤️
Happy Sunday and weekend!
Sunny warm day filled with chores and window-washing.I wanted to wait with the windows until after the first Spring rains but I cannot with dirty windows…lol.
SOTD!
Kayali Eden Juicy Apple.Today less chemical, more fruity.I want to try the new Burning Cherry asap!
I think my memory is starting to epically fail me,as I cannot remember my SOTD from yesterday.Haha!
Oh well.
Be well!
XO’s
Nevermind!
Yesterday was Rose Vermillon from local brand Fettle&Frisson. How could I forget that?Haha!
It’s what I can only describe as “ice-cream rose”,kinda cool, minty rose with geranium and softly powdered.
Good stuff
I love the name of that perfume house!
They have some pretty cool perfumes!
I tried the Burning Cherry. I think you will like it.
Ooohhh….then I can’t wait to smell it!This coming weekend!🥳🥳
Some people are saying it has poor longevity. I found it did last quite awhile but does sit close to the skin.
I have a lot of dirty windows here, and would be delighted to have you visit. 😉
I’d be delighted to help out!I’ve been used for my skills with windows and getting curtains and drapes off to the wash and back on many times!Haha!🌹🤗
I tried and failed to get window washing done last week. As soon as I got outside, I started stalling and doing other things that did not involve the stepladder. But Monday is coming…
We had the August winds,a little bit of drizzle and a whole lot of dry dust these past few weeks.I cannot watch the big palm trees infront of my bedroom windows through that grime!!Haha!
Just got through reviewing Viktoria Minya Eau de Hongrie. It smells really close to the long discontinued Botryis but smells similar to the original Hedonist. About to get into the shower and probably go with Lyric today.
Ah, I do remember Botrytis.
Ugh, my entire day yesterday was spent trying (unsuccessfully) to wrangle a mouse that somehow got inside.
A neighbor brought over a have a heart trap, and it was caught overnight, thank heavens. Wondering how long I’m going to be on high alert, haha. It was tough parting with a piece of my beloved imported swiss gruyere, but sacrifices must be made!
Trying to think of a a scent that will enhance my sense of relief.
Glad you were able to “transport” your little criminal! Be sure to check any drawers and cabinets you don’t use often, if any. Our last mouse had clearly been at home for a while in one of our kitchen cabinets with some little-used pots. After cleaning, I filled the points of entry with steel wool, as someone here reminded me. I also carefully washed and took to the thrift store the little-used pots! Now that cabinet has only one or two things that are more reached for! Hmmm, scent for a mouse capture: Felanilla? Lune de Feline? Purr? Something with civet?
I had a tiny mouse in my old apt but by the time I found it..it was on it’s way to departing the world as my cat found it. I picked it up with a light fabric and tried to put it outside but it didn’t make it. The positive, my cat ended any mice problem that was brewing. She didn’t leave the kitchen for a few weeks..she was on serious patrol lol:).
While I was actively living on the farm I was always between “awww they’re so cute!!” and fuming at the destruction they caused in our hobby room!Yes,there were 2!
We managed to catch and release both at least, far from the main house.
Esprit de Tigre?Haha!
I’ll bet that mouse thought he’d hit pay dirt when he found the Gruyere!
We use peanut butter, works really well!
Commando again, have a out of the blue craving for White Linen..but do not own any. I sold another shirt I designed, so that’s three tees I think. Kinda cool. Another day of unmotivation though. Lol. Maybe I should get some lemon or citrus type scent diffused round here lol. Orange maybe. Somethin to lift mood.
There was a cute kitten I was tempted to get got adopt but it got adopted out quickly. Probably a good thing. I am only allowed to have two cats here…so idk..would have had to keep it on the dl somehow haha.
Bad writing there..will just blame it on my phone lol.
Haha.It was like “random thoughts written down thought by thought”…I do that a lot.🤫😉
Car ride home scent is Mon Guerlain Intense again. We skipped brunch and did some Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s stops instead. And a Costco for gas since prices spiked up.
I need to figure out the scent storage situation. I have a little bookshelf in my closet and some trays on my bedroom dresser. Don’t like the closet thing. I worry if we have heat on that it gets warm in there.
I smelled the original Mon Guerlain on my perfumista-colleague the other day and was really surprised at how much I liked it!
Need to re-investigate!
I’m in TF Oud Wood Intense from an old sample, and believe me, I’m really sitting in it. Not really for this time of year, but I don’t care. I love this stuff. ❤️
I never smelled the intense version but I love the original…I’m sure you smell fantastic!
