It's Monday, plus National Chocolate Milkshake Day and National Day of Encouragement. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando: at the moment, perfume doesn't even sound appealing. I'm still pretty sick with Covid-19. (My taste and smell are fine though).
Reminder: on 9/16, wear a fragrance by Etat Libre d'Orange. Suggested by Oakland Fresca and seconded by MadtownGirl, AnnE and Kris.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Robin, I am so sorry that you are not feeling well. Please take care of yourself.
In the spirit of 911 yesterday and all things NYC.. I am in 5th Ave New York by Fragrance du Bois. Took a nice walk around Central Park this morning. Passed a group of older women walking that were better dressed than I will ever be. One of them had the most beautiful tweed jacket on. I love New York.
Thank you!
Now who do you suppose made that tweed jacket??
I love tweed and Tweed perfume too. Was the jacket Harris Tweed style or, as I think Robin suspects, a Chanel style?
I didn’t really suspect anything, I expect NYers know about wonderful tweed jackets I don’t even know about, right? I like to think so anyway!
Good morning!
Feel better soon Robin 🥺
Sotd is LV Attrape Reve.
I bought some Aged Sumatra coffee bean yesterday. It’s supposed to have notes of marshmallow and spices. Sounds really interesting. Making a cup now, hope it tastes nice!
Report back re coffee. I have used the same beans for so long..
Occasionally a friend picks me up a bag of the beans she likes when she visits her home in Spain. Other than that, I am boring!
I can definitely taste hints of spice and woodiness. No marshmallow for me though. It is also not acidic/sour which I prefer. Pretty smooth cup!
Last year I tried yellow bourbon beans and I quite like it.
I like low acid, balanced coffee
Sounds like a winner 🙂
How do you fix your coffee, and did you fix this special one that way?
So sorry about your covid blast, Robin. Rest.
Wearing Memoirs of a Trespasser for the first time this fall and I was dismayed to discover that there’s not much left in my bottle, I’ll have to replace it soon. It smells so wonderful.
You smell great ringthing!
I am trying to rest. My throat hurts too much to even rest well, though. I honestly don’t think my throat ever hurt this much in my life. Then again, never had my tonsils out. Turns out it isn’t so fun to eat all the ice cream you want…all I want is a steak, which I can’t have 🙂
A sore throat is the pits!
I am so sorry you are still very sick, Robin. Sending stronger healing vibes!
Wearing Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom.
Happy Monday! 🌻
You smell great
Thank you!
Thank you, I will take all the vibes you can spare!
Jo Malone is a good pick for a surprisingly warm and humid day. Wasn’t expecting it to be like this!
The humidity today is unbearable. Very uncomfortable here the whole day.
I ended up getting some thunder and rain earlier tonight! ⚡☔
I am so sorry about your covid diagnosis, Robin. Take care of yourself, please, your fans need you. SOTD is Lady Vengeance. I am going to do a partial rose week this week, since I am not sure that I have any ELDO rose scents. I’ll have to check my decants.
And should have said above, sorry for flaking out on the poll this weekend! I might be wrong but I think that’s the first time I ever did that. Just couldn’t.
Offhand can’t think of ELdO roses other than Rossy de Palma, but they must have done some?
I only have two bottle of ELDO, one of which I received from an NST giveaway, and the second I purchased. I have a discovery set, and a few decants, but I am quite sure that I don’t have Rossy de Palma, so it is likely to be Hermann… on Friday.
Ohh – I just realized that I have a decant of Putain des Palaces, which includes rose absolute. If I could find it, that should work.
Perfect, good luck finding it!
I can do ELdO the rest of the week, but today I’m in TF Jasmin Rouge, which is great for about two hours and now smells vaguely of liquid dial soap?
Hope you’re turning the corner, Robin!
Liquid Dial, ack! I don’t know if two good hours is worth that?
Hopefully COVID is short-lived for you, Robin.
SOTD = PG Indochine
I have the cute 30mL (or at least I think it is) and the juice is wonderful! It is a commuting into NYC day so I could not really do more than 5 spritzes. It was definitely potent at the beginning and I did not want to gas myself out nor my fellow commuters!
So I was going to walk east across 44th Street and at the corner where I was supposed to do so, 2 people stopped me and said the equivalent of you cannot walk on this side of the street. 🤔🤔🤔 If I was feeling frisky, but I wasn’t because it was pre-coffee, I would have asked if there was a permit for them to do so and if they said yes, I will ask to see the document. I will tell them to keep walking with me because unless they are law enforcement and I am doing something illegal, they have no right to detain me. I really think they are just doing it on the cheap to catch the best light without resorting to artificial lights. What would you do?
Huh? What kind of a ruling is that? I don’t get it.
Also not getting this; in any case, urrrgh – random people correcting another adult?!??
Which rule? The one that says you can stop people from walking on the sidewalk? If they had a permit, I am almost positive the city would have given them a Sidewalk closed sign. To add insult to injury, I saw someone trying to stop people from walking west along 47th. I mean seriously? By then I was caffeinated and I would have kept going – she really could not stop anyone.
Good grief. Who owns a sidewalk?
Agreed! Craziness. Is Mercury in retrogade?
I think it is…
Waaait whaaat???
Is this some new kinda Krazy in NY?

Do the Johnny Walker ….✌🏻🤗
You see everything in NY!
What an 🍑🎩! Unless there is a construction barrier there, those individuals were full of excrement.
I like your attitude!
If there was no construction or emergency then I don’t even understand these weirdos.
They can, with proper permits. But it seems they were not following the rules.
Robin, Sending more well wishes for a speedy recovery.
Sotm is Eldo Jasmin et Cigarette (it’s fleeting on me, hence the scent of the morning). I’ll be back to my Rodin thunking project this afternoon:)
Thanks allo!
Robin, I was worried about you! Sorry you’re under the weather but glad you’re well enough to post.
Today I’m in Demeter Sambucca, all boozy licorice, one of their startlingly lifelike recreations. It’s mostly gone in an hour, of course: we expect that of the line. But it sure is nice while it lasts.
Thanks pyramus! Sorry again for not appearing this weekend. Even today I am mostly in bed, and if this is Omicron I’m doubly glad I did not get Delta. This is bad enough.
Hope you feel better soon Robin!
SOTD is Splendiris by Dusita. I love it, but it has a pretty hefty price tag. I really want a FB, but notice the longevity is not the best. Can anyone suggest something similar? I really do like it.
Tested Fat Electrician this weekend. I found it quite masculine, but kind of liked it. Curious what others think.
Thanks Kris!
I like Fat Electrician, but I like nearly any vetiver.
Me too! I can’t remember anything vetiver-centric that I didn’t like!
I liked Fat Electrician enough to get a 30mL bottle of it when Sephora carried the line. It’s solidly unisex in my book. It’s a little sweet and a little herbal/woodsy on me.
So far, it’s the only FB vetiver I have.
I will have a think about this. I have a travel spray of Splendiris. I may suggest The Harmonist Royal Earth although I din’t think ot is that much less expensive.
Yes, Royal Earth is more expensive. I wouldn’t care of the expense so much for Splendiris if it had a little more oomph, but I just felt the longevity was fairly weak and it stayed close to the skin on me. I could go with the travel sprays too. I am guessing there are other iris perfumes I have not tried that are just as lovely.
Feel better soon Robin!
SOTD!
L’heure Bleue edp,in honor of the queen.
It was a toss-up between something ELDO or this one today, but my perfumista-colleague said we should wear our respective batches to work today, and do a comparison. Her bottle is in the new white packaging, mine in the gold box.I must say initial blast not much difference, but hers settles slightly diffrent with a fresher vanilla drydown,as opposed to mine that has more clove, and more woods in the drydown.I’d still purchase a fresh bottle(not that I’ll need to in my lifetime, haha!),but good to know it is still essentially L’Heure Bleue.
XO’s!🌹
That’s cool that you can be scent twins with your colleague.
🌞🌷
I agree!We’re 2 total fragheads.🤗✌🏻🤭
How nice to have a perfumista colleague, l’Heure Bleue smells great in all its guises, more gourmand vanilla these days I agree, my vintage parfum de toilette is just a touch more mysterious.
I concur, you summed it up perfectly!More gourmand in the newest new,and yes!An air of mystery in the older…love that!
L’heure bleu is beautiful but just immediately sinks me into melancholy.
Perfume evokes so many emotions.I spoke with an ophthalmologist today who is also an avid perfume-head,and we both agreed nothing triggers memory and emotion more than smells!
Thanks!
🌹🌺💐🌷🌹🌺💐🌷🌼🌹🌺🌷💐🌼🌹🌺🌷💐🌼🌹🌺🌷💐🌼🌹🌺🌷💐🌼🌹Flowers always brightens a mood.❣️
Aw, thank you J!
Nice to hear about something that hasn’t been reformulated to death.
Yes!Right??✌🏻🤗🌹
We got a teaspoonful of rain overnight and I am celebrating in TF Violet Blonde.
Smelling great SheriG!
Thank you!
Hurray for the rain! Hope you get more soon. So many places are parched this summer.
I hope so too — it is So Not Normal for Oregon to be this dry!
Rejoicing in some rain twin – we got nearly an inch and it was wonderful. Speaking of wonderful, that is how you smell – Violet Blonde is very different from anything else I have.
Envious of your almost-inch! We need more here, but the forecast is not promising.
On my 2nd day of vacation this week. Wore Sycomore yesterday and this morning and now in Lyric. Just hanging out at home today.
Enjoy hanging out and relaxing.
Dear smelly friends, hello again after a long-ish hiatus! Robin, I’m so sorry you’re sick; I hope you feel better asap.
I haven’t been wearing much perfume recently; we moved 1.5 weeks ago (so the house is a total disaster, though some friends came and helped us unpack for a morning on Labor Day, which really helped move things along!), and then I went on a trip to Minneapolis for my husband’s family reunion, and I don’t even know how to find the scents I want to wear (they’re all still in two boxes in the closet). But I have my little stash of work perfumes, so today I’m wearing smell bent Bollywood or Bust–two giant, luxurious sprays.
Minneapolis was fantastic! I don’t often venture into the middle of the country, but this trip suggests I should. Beautiful street art, gorgeous greenery, great art museums, the most lovely esplanades along the banks of the Mississippi. I also ate cheese curds and drank beer as often as I possibly could. Uh, yeah, this week will be a week of vegetables.
I love the Twin Cities — most of Mr. Skal’s family has ended up in St. Paul (from elsewhere in the Midwest), and I really enjoy visiting there. The Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis is well worth a visit, if you didn’t get there this time!
I second that recommendation – a gorgeous museum.
Your trip sounds great fun, and very good luck getting the rest of the way unpacked and settled!
Hi, Koyel! Glad you got a special getaway and family time! I never heard of cheese curds until I moved to the Midwest, but they are a treat!
Nice that you were able to spend time with your husband’s family. I love Minneapolis / St. Paul! We took a side trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum – what a treat!
Robin, so sorry that you are feeling bad. Mr. Skal came up COVID positive earlier today — after traveling across the country for a conference — so I fear that I, too, will end up with it. So far, asymptomatic and testing negative. Sigh. Now I have to figure out InstaCart, etc. (grateful that we have it in our very small city and that we can use it without unbalancing our budget).
In Fat Electrician for the CP, which I could smell just fine this morning but which has not lasted. That’s how I remember it on me, but am also wondering if my sample set has lost its oomph. Anyway, I definitely get the “chestnut cream” in FE.
I hope you stay healthy and your husband recovers quickly!
I have friends that swear by InstaCart. Good luck!
Oh, very good luck! I hope he has a very mild case and you don’t get it at all.
My husband did have side effects from the paxlovid but he also never got as sick as I did and it looks like he is bouncing back faster? But now we have to wait and see if he gets rebound
Get well soon Robin.
I am wearing my Nishane Ani sample today.
Thanks Hera!
Robin, you’re a trouper to have posted but do take it easy, lots of vitamin C, and D is recommended too.
Had a wonderful pear for dessert, I do miss my little blender though, a walk in the woods this morning and grocery shopping this afternnon, 30C but Provence never has a humdity index so the dry heat feels light. Smell of the day was wild thyme.
Sounds like a great day.
I know by your posts how much you enjoy walking and the pretty scenery you can enjoy nearby and that you describe so vividly.
Your pear sounds much healthier than my almond chocolate bar I had for my afternoon dessert
I think I eat more healthfully on vacation, that and then burn more calories by walking so much. Nothing wrong with an almond chocolate bar though.
Wonderful pear twins, LOL! The pears are coming into season in my area, and the red ones are beautifully ripening in my fridge. And they are MINE, all mine!
😃 Yes, season just started in Provence too. Enjoy!
Yay, hope you are having a wonderful time!
Sorry you are dealing with Covid and throat pain Robin. I hope you find something to help.
We are expecting snow again tonight but during the brief spring window I picked some magnolia petals as I was curious about their taste having read they are edible. They do taste of ginger, but with a bitter edge, a little like radicchio. The taste is not bad but the texture of the fresh leaves is a bit like that thin foam packaging and so I think they might be better pickled. I sliced them into a salad so it was pretty ( pink/ purple petals). I need to read more as perhaps some magnolias are better than others.
I’ve started reading a good book ( approachable literary ) about Proust as it is 100 years since he died.
https://brooklynrail.org/2022/03/books/Living-and-Dying-with-Marcel-Proust
The author is Christopher Prendergast
Wearing Daim Blond for another cold day.
Dear Kanuka-
I am a huge fan of Proust! My French neighbor went to Normandy over the summer and stayed at the same hotel has he. She brought me back a Proust stamp! You can actually use it to mail letters but I am keeping it for myself 🙂
This is in my hood
https://www.albertine.com/events/daniel-mendelsohn-christopher-prendergast-and-hannah-freed-thall-living-and-dying-with-marcel-proust/
Well done to experiment with new ingredients, perhaps looking pretty is the main attraction of magnolias though, although pickled they might be more edible.
There was an adaptation on French radio of Remembrance of Things Past which was terrific. Lots of special events to honour him.
Thanks for the tasting report on the magnolia petals!
That book looks wonderful and I’ve added to my list, although if I had it all to do over again I’m not sure I would finish Remembrance of Things Past.
Also cracks me up that in the list of google questions, which usually crack me up, is “How long does it take to read Remembrance of Things Past?” and the answer is “The average reader will spend 21 hours and 36 minutes reading this book…”, which, c’mon, I don’t think so. It took me years and I know lots of people who never finished and even more who never started.
(To clarify, most of those “years” were spent procrastinating picking up whatever volume I was on after volume 1 which did go quickly, but still, 21 hours is hugely misleading.)
Robin I am so sorry you are hurting. I did have my tonsils out and remember drooling on the pillow because it hurt to swallow. Ouch, and I am hoping you feel better soon. There is still wildfire smoke in the air here but not as bad as yesterday. I’m wearing Homage attar. I have no ELDO at all.
I don’t have any ELDO either, not even samples.
And were you thrilled to get the ice cream, or can you no longer remember?
I got Jello, not ice cream, and I remember not being able to eat it because the corners were too sharp!
Oh, so unfair! My husband remembers getting lots of sherbet, which would have seemed unfair to me.
Poor Robin you have my sincere sympathy. Maybe try tea with honey? It sounds dreadful. Thanks for posting today.
I’m wearing Fils de Dieu today in compliance with the CP. I’m smelling spicy.
Helped celebrate Mom’s 91st birthday yesterday. It was fun when we sang her Happy Birthday and she joined in and then hit the high notes at the end! She still has her pretty soprano voice!
Happy birthday to your mum, it sounds like a great celebration.
Happy birthday to your mom!
Happiest of birthdays to your Mom!
🥳💐❣️❣️
Happy Birthday to your mom! 🎂🌹
Happy Birthday to your dear Mom! That’s rather awesome she is still singing at 91. 🎂💐🎁
Happy Birthday to your Mother – her 10th decade!
Happy Birthday to your mom! I know I keep saying this but she looks great.
Happy Birthday to your Mom!
Adding to the birthday wishes to your Mom, she sounds wonderfully spirited!!
Lovely, happy 91st to Calypso Sr!!
Today was perfume shopping in Florence. This was the first time that I’ve taken my husband sniffing with me. We started with Santa Maria Novella, where we didn’t buy anything but my impression is that American perfume shops really need to up their ceiling game–where are the high ceilings, frescos and bas reliefs? We then went to Olfatorio where my husband got If from Frapin and I got Baie des Ange from Herve Gambs. They had a little nook (that they called a museum) of a collection of antique boxes of powder including 1925 Shalimar. So interesting. They mentioned having a branch in Milan and while we will be in Milan tomorrow, I don’t see any reason to visit a store with the same collection
I’m sorry to hear you’re still not well, Robin, but great to see you back. Take it easy for a month was the advice from my doctor, which I definitely followed.
I’ve got two ELd’Os which I’ll save for later in the week. I’ve been inspired by Hajusuuri and will also be wearing Indochine.
Thanks Gaynor! I am terrified of long covid and have already seen a few people struggle to get their energy back, so I will absolutely no overdo it.
Woohoo twin!
Many apologies, I’m not sure how I added my comment to yours!
That sounds like a wonderful day!
What a lovely day you had, and totally agree that purveyors of non-essential items like perfume should up their ceiling decor! Would love to see frescos and bas reliefs in the U.S. 😉
Yay on the perfume purchases. Jealous about your Herve Gambs! I need to find a US stockist.
Such a beautiful store, so glad you got to see it.
Smelling just about perfect in Diptyque Essences Insensées today.
Robin, please take good care of yourself and recover quickly!
I realize I left out some details for my perfume today ehaehe like which one… 😉 it’s the 2015 jasmine bomb 🙂
You smell divine! I’ve heard that one is quintessential jasmine.
I smelled it once and was bowled over by how gorgeous it was. Still kicking myself for not getting it. So needless to say, She-ra, you smell fantastic!
That was a nice one.
Robin, I’m very sorry to hear you’re sick. Please take it easy! I also had a terrible sore throat with COVID, but it lasted for about 36 hours. I hope yours is also short-lived.
I have been absent from perfume lately – our friend committed suicide, and the shock and emotion made me avoid it completely. Her funeral was on Saturday. Please take care of your mental health just like you do your physical health!!!
ELdO is one of my favorite houses. I’m easing back into perfume today with “She was an anomaly”, which wears like a soft iris hug.
I’m so sorry about your friend!
Sending a perfumed hug!
I’m so torn between wanting to wear this week a)What the Queen and others royals wear b)ELDO for the cp.
I just now spritzed myself with Tom of Finland….OMGGGGGGG!!I’ve forgotten how good this one smells!
XO’s
I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Sistine. Sending peace and love! 🌻
Oh no. So, so sorry to hear about your friend. Suicide leaves behind a lot of hurt. Hugs if you want them sistine. 💔
I’m so sorry for your loss sistine and as Jalapeno said, I’m sorry for the particular pain that suicide leaves in its wake.
💐 condolences about your friend. Sending comforting thoughts your way
Sistine I am very sorry for the loss of your friend. It is a grief like no other. Please take care of yourself.
My sympathy to you, sistine.
Oh no sistine, that is so difficult. I hope the funeral was affirming or comforting in some way; either way, hope you are able to find something affirming or comforting going forward. That is just so hard.
I’m so sorry, sistine. For someone who had also been touched by suicide, I think it is a very selfish thing to do, speaking in general terms.
Sending you my deepest condolences, sistine. That’s very heavy news to bear.
I’m so sorry, sistine. That’s just so difficult to process.
I’m in Dior Homme Cologne today, but started out in Diptyque Rose de Mai before shower. I have some ELDO that I’ll break out this week.
I’ve been slacking lately on creating a menu for the week, and don’t really know why. So, I did my menu for the week last night and I feel so much more organized! Made some peanut sauce today for baked tofu and veggies tomorrow. It’s nice to do some meal prep, even if it’s just a little.
I have only been able to plan about 1 or 2 meals a week. I would try and do more, but I have too many picky eaters in the house. It makes me crazy.
Robin, I was quite happy to see you posting today. I was getting rather concerned about the radio silence. Sorry to hear that you are feeling miserable, though. Sending more healing vibes your way!
I have the chocolate part of Chocolate Milkshake Day down. The milkshake part won’t be happening anytime soon, though. Besides, I prefer vanilla malteds anyway.
I wonder how AnniePerfumes is doing? Haven’t seen her for a while.
SOTD = still in 19-69 Female Christ.
I have been wondering about her also.
Hope that everything is all right with her.
Me three about Annie Perfumes although I have seen her posting on IG. Is your 19-69 perfume within thunking distance?
Nope. That little dabber sample is going to last me a while, since a bit of it goes a long way.
Sorry, I really should have posted something! Just couldn’t make myself.
AnniePerfumes was going to take a covid test last time she posted, on 8/16. I hope she is ok too.
Not having a choco milkshake but I am having my iced hot cocoa..which is a Swiss Miss packet or two, milk, ice, blend. So yummy. One could add fruit if desired. Banana would be good..and some peanut butter. Tried again to like the Pumpkin Spice Oreos..not happening..and the color is way too orange lol.
Commando besides the Pixi Rose Oil. 🌹. It would be cool to somehow make my own oil..maybe like a scented almond oil or olive oil.
Those Oreos sound like a big miss to me! I saw some at Kroger on Saturday, and they were near a display of Pumpkin Spice Moon Pies. No temptation for me, those. But I should add that I like the Blonde Oreos, which scandalized my sister. 😀
Did you get the right consistency? I have decided that I need to avoid the choco powder packs because I’ve noticed that drinking it does a number on my digestive system.
I don’t think this has been posted – Dawn Spencer Hurwitz is having a flash sale for her birthday, 20% off everything site wide* through midnight, 9.14.22. Code is dawnflash1.
Thanks, ringthing – I saw that and am eyeing some samples!
Ooh, nice! I saw the announcement but did not know the code.
I’m back in Cartier L’Envol. It has quickly become a favourite, in no small part because I love the cool mechanism on the bottle. Plus it really is great for this coolish end of summer weather.
Sending more good health-vibes your way, Robin!
Thanks Gi, I need them all!
SotD Estee Lauder Intuition. We are having a cool, partly sunny day, which surprised me, but we opened all the windows and enjoyed it. I got in the spirit and raked a bag of leaves. Sadly, we have falling leaves now mainly because our old Pin Oak tree is dying. It used to hold its leaves later than any other tree, so I know things are not right.
That’s a shame about your old tree.
Our locust is dropping leaves a full month early, don’t know why other than so dry?
Today the temperature stayed in 60’s. It was cool enough that I am finally trying out Cuir de Russie. Thank you to a generous nster. You guys I love it. It is more floral than I anticipated which is a good thing imo.
In the Are you kidding me?! department… a while back I posted about my coworker showing me pictures of her very young toddler’s eating at a restaurant and literally sitting on top of the table in diapers and shoes. I didn’t say anything except to acknowledge they were getting big or something.
Anyway today she showed a similar picture to a customer and the customer proclaimed that the children should NOT be sitting on the table. She responded with this is how she is teaching them that they should only eat at the table! What the heck! Lol. Ever hear of a highchair? Or even a TV tray which I used countless times.
Teaching someone what to do by letting them do what you DON’T want them to do? That’s 🐂💩!
Not to think of actual 💩 that could contaminate the table. No, just no? But maybe that is how she was taught which doesn’t bode well for the next generation.
You smell lovely!
It’s great to hear from you Robin. Although I’m sorry to hear about your sore throat, sending you lots of healing vibes.
SOTD is Tabac Rose.
I’ve been slammed with a ton of work this week, but I am feeling well equipped to power through! So grateful that the heat wave is gone and I spotted my favorite seasonal Fall kombucha flavor at the store today. Yippee!
It’s nice to see familiar things when you’re looking for them!
Thanks tulipani! You power through for both of us, I’m going to pretty much stay in bed 😉
Robin, I hope you are feeling better soon.
On the weekend I wore 4160 Tuesdays Over The Chocolate Shop, Calyx (Prescriptives version) and Prada Infusion d’Iris. We were away visiting my hubby’s parents for his birthday. Of course they spoiled us both. It still cracks us up that they call us “the kids”.
