PSA: our next swapmeet will be on Saturday, 17 September.
Meanwhile, it's Labor Day weekend in the US. We're marking the holiday with our standard open thread poll, with an added dose of lazy — I'll be back on Tuesday. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you are finding most relaxing lately, what you're planning to buy at a Labor Day sale (and feel free to share any coupons or deals), whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: top image is Soirée d'été à la plage [cropped] by Hervé Simon at flickr; some rights reserved.
Today I’m in Demeter Russian Leather, a perfectly nice leather, slightly sweet, lasts a few hours, you could do a lot worse. I bet it would be just as good for layering as yesterday’s exponentially more expensive DS & Durga Leatherize.
No plans for Labour Day weekend, just relaxing, doing some chores (that laundry won’t do itself), studying German via Duolingo, maybe painting (I have no inherent talent for representational art but I figure if I stick with it long enough I might at least become competent).
I don’t know if it’s helpful or useful but if you download the Radio Garden app you can easily tune into German radio. Two helpful stations are Deutsche Welle and Deutschlandfunk Kultur. These have lots of talking without being commercial: politics, arts, culture. There are also classical music , jazz etc. stations so it can be quite fun.
Diptyque Vinaigre de Toilette is my SOTD, or month (SOTM) or summer (SOTS).. 😝
This combination of lavender & herbs has been pure self care for me. It also lingers all day long.
Starting a new job on Tue.! It will be an adjustment after 3 months of not working FT. This summer has been hard but also really good having the extra time to relax & explore, and think a lot.
Heading to see Top Gun $3 movie special today with a friend. Anyone else taking advantage of Cinema Day?
Congrats on the new job! You’ll be right back in the flow faster than you expect.
That Diptyque sounds very interesting.
I hope so! 🙏🏻
Congrats on the new job! I thought of you today when I decided to wear Rose 31 because I remember you liking it too.
I do! And you smell wonderful!
Good luck with the new job!
Thank you!
Enjoy your new job, good luck. Have fun at Top Gun. I am going to 3000 Years of Longing later. Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba , based on a A S Byatt story.
Good one! Love Tilda!
Please let us know what you thought. A friend in England saw it and said it was absolutely amazing.
Oh, I love A.S. Byatt, do let us know how it was.
Congratulations on your new job!
Thanks!
I thought about the Regal day but have already seen TG2 twice and Thor was a total bust..I left during the flick..it was just too stupid for me. Funny but too stupid lol. I mostly went to see it cause I was curious on Bale playing another villian. And not into Pitt..so Bullet Train..meh. That leaves me pretty much with Jaws Revenge reissue..which I already have seen too haha. Hope you have fun..it’s such a good flick!! BTW Tues. are usually about 5 bucks as they have a special.
Yes, I’ve signed up for AMC membership to get the Tue. $5 a show offer.
Loved Top Gun! Need to see this in a theater if you can. I was on the edge of my seat for a big chunk of the movie. Those fighter jet scenes were so well done!
Right with you on Thor. I thought it was awful. Truly awful. Bullet Train was entertaining, but could have been better. I didn’t mind spending $5 to see it.
TG2 is showing at the drive in where I live, but I don’t think I can muster the energy to see it at 9:20….it’d end at midnight!
The best wishes for your return to full time. And you have created a lemming. Now I want that herbal vinegar splash. It sounds lovely. Sigh.
I love it! It has many uses besides as a fragrance to wear.
Best wishes for the new job! We saw Top Gun last night. Predictable but great action, fun overall.
Thank you!
Totally predictable but agree, lots of fun and entertaining.
Good luck tomorrow at your new job! 🍀
Maja Soap, Body Lotion and EDT
Can you please share more info about your patchouli body oil? Where do you buy the essential oil, what brand/type and what percentage do you put into carrier oil? I have a small bottle of jojoba oil I’d like to mix with it.
Emailing you now
Maja is my dad’s favorite! Haha. Not sure why but he has good associations with it.
Oops. For chocolatemarzipan.
Does he wear it? Or just like it on women? I think it’s a classic and definitely unisex and timeless…my middle child loves the body wash and body lotion
Wasn’t there also a dusting powder? I would love that
Yes!! My local supermarket sells it!
He doesn’t wear it, just really loves the scent.
Maja Soap, Body Lotion and EDT
I like Maja classic carnation:)
I like everything Maja…they have other scents too! And so affordable 😂😍
Helping a friend return to perfume after her favorite was reformulated (so long ago that we can’t remember what it was). We’ve identified the following criteria.
Spicy, sultry, not at all sweet. Not inescapably masculine. Intimate sillage and need not last forever. Non-gourmand, non-fruity, any flowers need to be subtle. Nothing that smells like retro cosmetics (eg lipstick or talcum powder). Not aldehydic. No sharp points such as prominent lemon, galbanum, or lavender. Resins and tobacco and amber are great but can’t be sweet. Woods are great but can’t be sharp. Incense can be present but not dominant (copal and palo santo are better than frankincense). No prominent patchouli. Musks are OK but not soapy and if animalic it should be an undertone and no more. Bonus points for smoke, leather, moss, earth, and vetiver. Extra bonus points for sandalwood.
Thoughts?
(Full disclosure: I’ve posted a similar query on Fragrantica. So far the most striking feature of the recommendations is how dramatically people disagree about what smells ‘sweet’. My friend and I have done only a little sniffing together recently, but I was struck that almost the first thing she said about Moon Bloom (on me) was ‘too sweet’. She loved the first impression and then found it overwhelming. Not that I’m trying to put her in a big white floral! Just that it’s interesting how, yes I get the banana and sort of coconut vibe in Moon Bloom, but for me it is de-sweetened by the menthol, mushroom, and indolic notes. Maybe I’m just fascinated like a born-again newbie by the unpredictability of how each person links words with smells.)
Today I’m wearing Isle Ryder from a mostly empty bottle that leaked. I remember it as sweeter (!) Woth prominent amber and gummy cola. I love the smell of gummy colas. This is more bitter and sour and astringent than I recalled, but rather a fun, um, ryde.
Sounds like your friend prefers subtle, slightly oddball scents. She might try Lalique Encre Noire (top of mind since that’s my SOTM), or maybe the vetiver one from Fzotic (guessing here — I’ve tried several of those, and they’re all unusual, but can’t recall the vetiver one).
Great ideas!
Encre Noir was my first thought too. Maybe one of the Commes des Garcons incense series.
I would try Lush Shade. It is warm and woody without being sweet or fruity. It doesn’t project for miles but has great body and development. Also, compared to some other perfumes it is well priced. The juice is much better than the solid, the latter is a bit pale. Also good for autumn. The other would be Autumn Vibes Margiela which is mulch wood, and you can get in 10ml.
I love these ideas. I’d been thinking we’d try Lush. Now I know where to start!
The first thing that came to my mind is Hermes Santal Massoia.
Sounds great. Thanks!
I’m very partial to Hermetically Sandalsun. It’s my go to frag right now. It’s soft, creamy sandalwood, close to the skin. I thought it would be a nice fall frag but it’s so versatile I wear it all year.
Hermetica! Lol, darn autocorrect.
Thank you!
Akro Smoke
That one looks interesting!
Original Bvlgari Omnia is still pretty easy to get at online discounters. Bois des Isles would fit except for the aldehydes, but they do dissipate pretty quickly. Coco EDT, maybe?
Great ideas! I know she’ll be curious: why EdT in particular for Coco?
It’s a little drier than the EDP or parfum.
Perfect, thanks!
The description you outlined sounds like one of my favorite cool weather frags, L’Artisan’s Timbuktu. If you are CONUS, I can send you a sample! (See my email in my Friday posting 🙂)
Yes, I was just reading about that one! (Catching up on a lot of things perfume, including Turin and Sanchez). It’s so thoughtful of you to offer a sample but before you go to the trouble, let me see if I can get to a counter with my friend. (I’m presuming there are still L’Artisan counters in NYC, but I don’t actually know that yet.)
Wearing Pleasures today and cursing Luckyscent. They are having some specials and Amouage Lyric woman is one of them. With the specials, I wonder if Luckyscent isn’t going to carry them anymore or those perfumes are being discontinued. I have 2 full bottles of Lyric and the travel spray, so I think I am good for now.
You can always add one more bottle 😉
I wish I could but new bottles of perfume aren’t in the budget and probably won’t be for a long time.
Lyric is nice, I thunked my loved sample quite some time ago but yeah, not in the budget atm. Maybe eventually a travel spray. But now I am lemming a sample after a LS browse..that Wet Cherry Liquor sounds yummy:). I love their bottle design too:).
Yes I fell for the free shipping even for samples. So ordered 1/2 dozen I’ve been wanting to sniff but refused to pay extra to send lol.
Well, it’s good to know I wasn’t the only one enticed by Luckyscent.
Geez, I could just get in car and drive there.
Chantecaille’s Pétales
I normally don’t like anything with Freesia, but the white florals outshine this note..thank goodness
Also a lippy from the same brand in the color Capucine
Hoping to find some quiet time to read..I am re-reading Jane Eyre, this time as an adult and not as a teenager, young adult. Re visiting some classics…
If DolceVIta is reading this-can you tell me again about that hair mask that you commented weeks ago..
Have a great long weekend everyone..
After reading Jane Eyre, you should read Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. Written from the perspective of Mrs. Rochester. One of the earliest examples of post-colonial literature. Very eye-opening.
Wide Sargasso Sea is an amazing book!
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/apr/29/reader-i-married-him-tracy-chevalier-review?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Jean Rhys is terrific and I can also recommend Reader I Married Him, an anthology of short stories edited by Tracy Chevalier based on Jane Eyre. Some centre on Grace Poole, Rochester…. Writers include Elif Shafak Linda Grant, Audrey Niffenegger, Lionel Shriver, Helen Dunmore. God for lazy afternoon reading.
Jane Eyre is a favorite of mine.
Also recommend the movie with Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine – so good!
No scent so far today. Will have to get moving soon, though, to get Ockeghem Tween to cross-country practice.
Question for everyone here: Does anyone have any recommendations for diffusers? I want an “always on” scent in my entryway, which has for some years smelled a bit like cat. (The strange thing is, I do not think it’s my cat that it smells like. I think it’s coming through from the back yard, which is a cat superhighway, because it’s worse when the windows are open.)
I’m going to have to order online, it looks like, as I’ve tried all the boutiques with home / personal care stuff on my street, and most only have candles. The only one that did have diffusers wanted $110 and tried to sell me on it by saying many high-end hotels and Hollywood stars use the scent. (Yes, it did smell like a high-end hotel. No, I don’t want my house to remind me of when I used to have to travel all the time for work.) Then she tried to explain to me that while I’ve probably never heard of vetiver, it’s a very nice scent. 😀
So I’m looking for a diffuser in the $50-75 range, not >$100, and something that doesn’t smell like a boutique hotel lobby, I guess. It’s hard to buy something unsniffed from Luckyscent, so suggestions from people with experience are welcome!
You might want to check out Brooklyn Candle. I bought a diffuser from them on massive sale (Santorini) but haven’t actually set it out yet. Their candles generally have good throw, so I’m hoping the diffuser will be same. They have 20% off this weekend.
Thanks! Taking a look now!
Ugh…cannot convince their site that I want the US version, and no deal on the international site. Will look anyway.
I have a reed diffuser from Pottery Barn that I like a lot. Mine is the Grey Moss scent (sounds terrible, but it’s really very nice). It has been in my guest bath for years and is just now in need of replacement. I just checked the website and that scent is still in rotation, in several sizes and configurations.
I think Grey Moss sounds great!
Grey Moss sounds intriguing. Should go by and see if they have it. I had some incense from there, years ago, and it was very pleasant.
I wish you were still in SA,then I could have directed you to Anke products. My favorite diffuser,it has a solid wooden top that disperses the scent beautifully. My favorite is the Sugared Grapefruit.I like the idea of a closed top diffuser.
I have recently enjoyed the Marie Stella Maris reed diffuser, they have a reasonable throw and pricing is not too bad.Currently have the Rock Rose in the bathroom and it is “just enough”
When I was in North Carolina this summer I found two diffusers that smelled great, so I bought them. I think you may be able to even buy on Amazon. One is by Green Leaf and is named Bella Freesia. Instead of sticks, a flower is in the bottle, and this absorbs the liquid. The other is made in France but sold in the USA I believe, and it is by Nicolosi Creations. I chose the Parfum D’Ambiance. Both are $50 or less. I smelled them in the two different stores that I bought them in but have not tried them at home yet. The shops were in a ritzy part of town, so I was actually pretty surprised that the price was that low.
Maybe take a look at these two lines from France, Lothantique and Esteban Paris. Both have various products for diffusing scent and they aren’t too expensive.
That’s hilarious about the fancy diffuser. I love the smell of hotel lobbies!
I like L’Occitane Harmony. It has a woody Forest vibes without being strong artificial pine with a touch of floral added. Not sweet or vanilla.
I was surprised at how much I ended up liking Body Shop’s Basil & Thyme Reed Diffuser. I’ve been cautious about their scents for, well, decades, ever since their Dewberry was at large, but this is subtle, green, and about 1/2 your budget as well…
Thanks all — lots of great thoughts here, and some I can try locally! (I wouldn’t have thought about L’Occitane or Body Shop.) I’m wondering if maybe I can get Nicolaï locally, too — saw them on Luckyscent but the descriptions made me think I should sniff them first.
@J B — I wish I were still in SA, too. 🙂
Scentrique carries PdN perfumes, not sure about home scents.
You might want to check out ZGO Perfumery in San Francisco. They have a lot of diffusers. I’ve been in the store….admittedly a # of years ago…and found it quite nice.
https://www.zgoperfumery.com/diffusers/
Sotd is Rose 31 and since it’s fleeting on me and it’s cloudy here today, I will probably turn to The Holy Mountain later this afternoon.
That gave me a chuckle…sounded almost like you were going to pray for your scent to last longer 😉
Ha! I need to turn somewhere!
It’s slightly overcast and cooler this morning than it has been in weeks, so I’m complementing the autumnal vibe in Encre Noire.
You smell great! Or, you did yesterday. Was too hot here for Encre Noire but bet we will have that weather soon.
Quick roadtrip to Johannesburg to spruce up my bedroom with a new throw from my favorite Mungo brand.Had a great al fresco lunch and browsed the cobbled streets’ shops for what’s new for spring in the wardrobe.
SOTD!Ermenegildo Zegna’s Aqua di Iris. The cedar note is a bit too much, especially on a hot Spring day,but I still enjoyed it.
Happy long weekend boys and girls!
🤞🏻So far so good on the workfront.🤞🏻xo’s
And question!
Are there any new Iris perfumes that are worth seeking out?
My Iris collection is pretty extensive from Equistrius, the Chanels,Iris Silver Mist…but there is always room for another one!✌🏻
Well, I’m dying to know if the new Santa Maria Novella Iris EDP is worth trying, so piling on your inquiry and asking whether anyone has sampled it yet.
There’s a woman on FB selling her bottle, I think it’s Bianca Ethel, it would be in either Eau My Swap or FFF Marketplace, she could tell you her impressions.
Can anyone verify if Iris Silver Mist has been discontinued?
I just found it on the SL website. Discontinuing ISM would be a perfume travesty!
I checked the website earlier, and yes it’s there, but with a note that says “this product is no longer available”,both the bell jars and the travel sprays have that message…,so I don’t know!
I just went through the purchase process up to the point of payment (including receiving a 20% “back to school” discount with no tax) so I wonder if it’s available to U.S. customers but limited otherwise?
I switched up currencies,in £ and € it is definitely not available, but for some reason in $ it shows as in stock….who knows these days with the mysterious uncle Serge….but thanks for the feedback Allo!
Heeley Iris de Nuit as a rec. Quite lovely.
Oh shoot I didn’t read the “new” part..but still worth seeking out. I have hardly sniffed any new ones this yr..a few rose ones..that’s about it.
The local perfumerie has the whole Heeley range….except Iris de Nuit!
So frustrating
I think Monegal Impossible Iris is beautiful. Not too rooty, not carrotty, but dry and just right.
I totally agree!I should wear it more often!(yup,it’s been in my collection for a while!)
Monegal was one of the first niche lines I smelled. Was really impressed. I love some of his stuff..and customer service is perfect. I didn’t care for some of their musk scents though..just because I am iffy about that note. Iris was lovely..I remember it being like a nice, chilled, ice-y iris with a raspberry..a chilled, ice-y raspberry. 🙂 Not bad at all.
I was going to try L’Artisan Iris de Gris today, but the decant sprayer doesn’t work and I was in too much of a hurry to fiddle around with it. I’ll try again tomorrow and let you know what I think.
Please do!I’d love to smell that one too!
I tried Iris de Gris today. The pea opening is amazing – it really smells like fresh pea pods. The iris is not a cosmetic iris at all, but is very rooty/ a realistic botanical scent. The only thing keeping me from wanting a full bottle is that there is a period of prominent galbunum, which isn’t my favorite note.
If you like garden scents and are a galbanum fan, definitely try this!
This sounds wonderful,I’ll be sniffing it asap hopefully!
Thanks!✌🏻🌹🤗
Lucky you! Is Mungo high end there, or middle, or ? Not meaning to pry at your expenditures, ha, just wondering. They are very spendy here and I keep waiting for one of the throws I want to get a really nice sale 🙂
Haha!
You can pry away!
Mungo is quite niche in the linen department,so yeah, they are spendy.I know there are annual sales of sort, not sure if it applies to the international website as well.
I bought the vrou-vrou throw a while back, and this is the new woven through in single. But the colors!!Love love.On my mostly white bedlinens it looks gorgeous!Totally worth the money and their things wash well, keeps shape and color and are just cool.Holding thumbs you score in a sale ASAP!✌🏻🤗🌹🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thank you, for some reason it makes me feel better to know they’re also spendy there.
The vrou vrou is the one my sister got…she was looking for a cool bedspread and I sent her a link, then was of course incredibly jealous when she actually bought it 🙂
Masque Milano L’Attesa and Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendré are quite nice.
On the list it goes,thanks!
Still unbearably hot and humid which will continue until Friday, ugh. At least a friend with a pool has invited me over this afternoon. I will be wearing 4160 Tuesdays Wash Me in the Water of course.
That is an excellent friend indeed!
It’s been so hot in the SW..I think L.A. just broke a record for heat.
we did.
We are FINALLY getting real heat up here in Oakland. So warm that I am just sitting out back in a state of stupefaction, drinking iced coffee, listening to the birds (check out my insta for one particularly noisy fellow! https://www.instagram.com/reel/CiGJwqtDl03j3p1BO-bsiQOPwi9ihzn-Jud7lI0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= ) and reading NST (but of course ♥️💜💙)
State of stupefaction describes me in the heat yesterday too! 😰
I have been trying a few samples this week. I wanted to like Bombay Bling so bad, but the cedar came front and center on me. Guess I will have to pass on that one. Money saved. The other one that I tried was What We Do In Paris Is A Secret. Unfortunately, that one ended up smelling like a marshmallow on me. I will continue on my journey by testing some more next week.
SOTD is Montale Rose Elixir.
I made potato salad for the last time this summer. My husband loves it so I promised him I would do it this weekend. I think the secret is adding onion dip to the mayo and mustard dressing. Have a great weekend!
Oh I like your dressing recipe!
I love cedar wood in nature, but same experience with my SOTD today!Too much!!😱😱
Oh I loved WWDIP. I got a bottle eventually. Mmmm potato salad with onion dip? Sign me up!
Sotd AC Vanille Insensee.
No plans for the long holiday weekend. I will run my regular errands and do some quick cleaning and cooking. I may also find some time for a walk. It is very quiet, pleasant and peaceful outside.
Happy and healthy weekend everyone!
Fabulous choice!You smell great!
Thank you, J B! 🌻
I hope you’re rested, relaxed and ready for the short week, pl67! 😊
Ready and glad is a short week! 😊
I am commando ATM because..it’s just too hot right now. And I was in a building for a while with no a.c. as it broke down and I was like ugh. They got some portable coolers in but they were just pointed at the cashiers not any customers lol. I may have said some words of frustration under my breath lol. I treated myself to Crumbl Cookie and got the peanut butter stuffed buttered whatever one lol. Pretty good. 🍪
Ooh, that cookie sounds delightful. Sorry Bout your heat situation!
Just part of living in the Mojave but..no a.c. in a building here is quite brutal lolol
I’m in Freckled and Gorgeous today, and it is definitely a great fit for me. However, for some reason I can never remember the name and keep calling it “Freckled and Barefoot” in my head.
Just having a super lazy day. I hope everyone gets a chance to relax this weekend!
That’s a cute name for a perfume:). Never heard of it.
I’m so embarrassed- it’s actually not called Freckled and Gorgeous. It’s called Freckled and Beautiful. (It’s from A Lab on Fire.).
Barefoot is even better
I’m on board with all of the above, but would have preferred “Freckled and Fabulous”,because double F’s make me happy.🤣🤣🤭🌹
Ford’s F-ing Freckled Forty Something & Fabulous..
@Omega 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Perfect! I too love alliteration. I also like this perfume a lot 😎!
I liked Gorgeous better:).
Omega! That name is f’hilarious! If it’s not been a project yet, we should all come up with the name and notes of a “Fake Ford Fragrance”.
I love Viridiaan’s idea for a cp!!
You guys!! 🙂 NST’ers could *so* out-do TF in the realm of inventive fragrance names.
On my drive over the hill to the library yesterday I saw two lambs, bouncing and running, their long tails wiggling away. Ah, spring! And then we had a short snow flurry. Ah, not spring. Off to see 3000 Years Of Longing today with Tilda Swinton. Have a good weekend. I am wearing Autumn Vibes which suits this cold start , listening to the dawn chorus which is suddenly loud and fills the air around me.
What you see on the way to the library and what I see are two very different places 🤣
Let me know about that movie ! Love Tilda
Snow flurry? Yikes. 110 here today lol. Lambs are so cute. I remember once I was driving around Napa, CA and stopped to just stretch. The field by me had all these little lambs and they came running and bouncing towards me. They let me pet them. So cute.
And now “Little Bo Peep” is rattling around in my head. 🐑🐑🐑🤭
It’s overcast right now and cooler today, so I broke out the Sarrasins. Going to an outdoor art fair this afternoon.
You smell fabulous!
Looking forward to reading everyone’s comments this weekend. I have no writing assignments or burdensome extra work to do, and the weather is gorgeous. So its puttering and relaxing for me. I doused myself in a perfume that I love, but haven’t been able to stir the same enthusiasm in others for it–the very simple Rosas Frescas–which is a sort of lemongrass, wax, and rose scent. I like what happens to it in the hot sun. I’m about to sweep the deck outback, more for the meditative aspect of sweeping under trees than anything else. I’m listening to a ridiculous fantasy mystery.
Also, I still have about 30 mls in my Divine perfumes split, the new L’été Orange Rouge and L’été Narguilé. If you are CONUS and interested, please see my comment on Friday with all the details.
I’m feeling definite enthusiasm based on your description
🤣
Just got my Divine samples and testing them now, they are both lovely! Sent you an email to get in on the split.
Yay! (I’ve had mixed results buying blind, and yet I persist. Oy!)
Yesterday, after Holly’s question about Curionoir, I found that the local stockist (a clothing shop that stocks only this perfume range) does still have them. I dabbed on a few, and immediately got confused about what I’d dabbed where. I can say that Dark Bouquet started as a lovely rich floral, but dried down in an hour or so to something a bit sweet and flat. I’ll be more focused next time and report further 🙂
I then wandered into another clothing shop and found another New Zealand brand that I hadn’t come across before, called The Virtue. I was too redolent of Curionoir to sniff those, but I’ll go there again today.
It’s so much fun discovering local brands!
My quest the past couple of months have resulted in finding really great Niche perfume, made in South Africa!(and of course more than a couple of duds as well…)
Really curious about perfume from SA. I had a friend from there for a while. She was so much fun.
Haha!
We are mostly fun people yeah, because God knows we’ve been through it so a good sense of humor is vital!!
Quite a lot to discover on the SA perfume scene,I did post a list here not too long ago but feel free to mail me sometime johanob at vodamail dott co dott za
✌🏻
Thank you for reporting back, Gaynor!
I have way too many questions tonight!
Has anyone tried the new Francis Kurkdjian 724?High on my to-do list!
I am also dying to try this one!
Let me know if you do!✌🏻🌹
I read it was similar to the Acqua Universalis scent. But I haven’t smelled it yet.
I’m in Feminite du Bois from a sample. Giving this one another try. It’s a fragrance I *should* like, and I want to…the drydown is lovely but the opening is…screechy? I think I know what people mean when they use that description.
We were up at the crack of dawn today. Picked up a uhaul van, cleaned out my college daughter’s storage unit, moved her into the dorm, returned the van, all before 11 am! Whew. This is my daughter’s final semester and rather than sign a year long lease she opted to go back into the dorm for the 4 months of housing that she needs. She is a 5th year senior, or “super senior” as she called it, lol. Considering her college course was thrown off by Covid, adding one more semester isn’t too bad imo.
Then we had lunch long the river. It’s another bluebird day for us. Guess it’s raining back home, so I’m happy we are not there. We’ve got our favorite Airbnb for the weekend and I’m about to relax with an adult beverage.
Happy Saturday everyone!🌞😎
Has it been 5 years? I remember when she first went off to College. Wishing her a great final semester!
It looks like it’s about to storm here. The weather people lied to me again.
Thanks lillyjo! Yeah, we dropped her off for the first time in the fall of 2018. I remember how profoundly sad I was. Seems like so long ago and just like yesterday all at the same time. Time is funny like that.
We had big storms here(we are north and west of madison) Friday and night and then the rest of the weekend has been gorgeous. Good weather should be heading your way!😎
Happy Saturday everyone! It’s a soggy Saturday here in Houston town. I was in Bel Respiro EdP for my morning workout and went to Bvlgari Black from a decant after showering. This must be an older version of BB, cuz it’s different from my bottle. It’s spicier and has less of the rubber tire note than the bottle. That’s completely okay in my book; I love the tire note! ❤️🛞❤️
I went to the PO and then Aldi to pick up some things for the Labor Day party we’re having, and got distracted. I was starving, and shoved a piece of sourdough bread in my mouth as I put the grocery bag in the trunk. Well, I accidentally dropped my keys in the trunk and closed it. 😞 A really nice woman called AAA and waited with me for the van to show up. We had a great chat, talked about all kinds of things, and of course, she’s a nurse. I thanked her profusely for rescuing me. Thank goodness for kind people!
There are a lot of them out there, even if I sometimes forget.
Oh gosh! I’m glad you had a nice person around to help you out.
Me too, lillyjo! It may be time to think about getting AAA.
We the Nurses are MOSTLY nice people,ja…
Haha!
Glad you are OK,that is one of those sutuations I dread the most and gives me serious anxiety.🌹🤗
Aww, I think y’all are all great! Hugs right back at ya! 🤗
Oh, I have done that and felt so stupid! I’m glad you had a nice helper, especially given how rainy it’s been here.
Yes, it showered a bit while we waited, but we were able to take cover. I was rather panicked about it! Very fortunate to have had help.
Darn sourdough!
I know, right? 😂
I would totally do something like that. Once I lost my keys after church..several people were looking for me..then bam..pastor found them under my windshield wiper. Have no idea how they ended up there LOL. Other times, I have just left my keys in my front door..lol. Who does that? Like hey everyone..come on in..tonight I am having tacos. LOL. I have not left them in the door for a while and hoping not to repeat that haha.
Oh wow, I’m glad you had help finding your keys too! It’s very unsettling when that happens.
Back from a relaxing brunch with a couple of friends. On one arm I have a spritz of Piper & Perro’s Arid, from the travel spray I bought yesterday, and am pretty happy with it. I received a couple of samples, which was great. Just spritzed one, Tourbière by Coquillete, and I can’t say I’m enjoying the first few minutes, though. How can rum go bad? If it continues along these lines it will be passed along. I used to feel guilty: I hated this, take it! The thing is , people do have both different taste and different skin.
I have taken many unloved perfumes off people’s hands. Even if they don’t work out, it’s always fun to try something new!.
I want to go on a sniffathon to try some department store and celebuscents,it has been aaaages since I did that!*Could be fun!
Beautiful picture, Robin!
SOTD: UFdCassie by FM. I think this shares my top three with Chanel no 5 body oil and Bas de Soie.
Good news to share is that, DV, my son and I will go on the Morocco trip that we should have done 30 months ago. I honestly still did not feel like an international flight, but eventually booked the trip for TWO days before our airline vouchers expired. If there are people in this community sitting on vouchers: this is your nudge.
To those in the US, enjoy your Labour Day Weekend!
Oh yay! I hope it’s a fantastic trip!
You can’t go wrong with Morocco 🇲🇦
Wonderful! I was an exchange student in Tunisia in hs, and backpack traveled around Morocco after college. I loved North Africa—everything. The people, scenery, culture, food! All that was a long time ago. I hope I make it back one day.
Oh that’s lovely, when will you go?
I tried using my voucher in July. Bad news is that the airline hassled me because apparently, my voucher is under someone else’s name and I later found out that the travel agency is out of business. Good news is that the voucher was extended to December 31, 2023. TBH, I am still not comfortable flying eventhough I had been commuting into NYC 2-3x per week (masked), with the longest I kept my mask on for 3 hours in unpleasantly hot weather conditions with no power in the train.
I won’t get on a plane now that they no longer have mask mandates. Too dicey!
No 5 Body creme..thunk….
That’s a big thunk!
sure is LOL….my body is super moisturized right now 🙂
To be replenished?
Yay for the face!🌞
🤭🌹😉
Exactly what I thought!
😊😊✌🏻🌹
It was a gift and I still have MANY more things to thunk, although I am a thunking queen ….so for now, no, not to be replenished….I have Coco body creme waiting in the wings 😉
Fantastic!
I’m working my way through the No.5 Elixer Sensuel, slowly but surely…🤗🌹
Excellent!!!
That is an accomplishment! I have the same creme, so will pull it out for tonight. Thanks for the reminder!
It’s so good, right? I’ve used it often in the evening too
I woke up today thinking I need to find some vintage Opium. I have never shopped on ebay but started searching. I found one that isn’t ridiculously priced. I’m wondering though, if you buy a perfume and find it has gone off, are you just out of luck? Too bad so sad? For my sotd I am wearing the current edt on one wrist and a oil dupe of the original on the other wrist. Thanks to generous nsters for both. YSL sent me an email and it looks like they are discontinuing the current edp. I don’t even know what that smells like.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I am working through Tuesday but will then get 2 days off.
I wonder about that too…perfume being off…and twice I had bad luck on ebay ordering multiple bottles from two different sellers who charged for everything but then only sent me one. I don’t do eBay anymore.
Ugh.. maybe I will stick with searching thrift stores.
Gosh if your thrift stores have fragrance go for it!!
I hope you find your vintage Opium as it is so wonderful. Imdint know what the current version is like but might try it some day as it is so cheap. Good luck.
I once ordered a vintage bottle of L by Lolita Lempicka on ebay that was off, got a full refund.
Well, I’ve purchased perfume several times from eBay and have never had a problem, but they weren’t very expensive. I hope you find some. Try looking on some online shopping platforms, too, like Poshmark, Mercari and Etsy.
I got my vintage Opium off ebay a long time ago. One always runs the risk of getting a bottle that has gone off. Mine was great and I sent a sample of it to someone with a great nose and the person said it smells like 80s Opium.
Have fun on your upcoming 2 days off!
I haven’t had a problem with perfumes purchased off of eBay being bad. Having said that, carefully read the seller’s FAQ to see if returns are allowed. I would think that Opium ought to keep well. Caveat emptor!
I’m wearing a bunch of vintage Poison today. My hubby is away caddying for his brother in a golf tournament so I’m home alone; maybe went a little nuts with 6 sprays!?
It’s not as hot today and it looks like we are finally on the cool-down, temperature-wise. I love summer normally, but the heat this year has kept me from wearing a lot of fragrances (among other things), so I’m appreciating this change right now.
You smell fabulous – here’s hoping you meet your sillage coming and going throughout your house!
😉
I sure did! 😄
Snow has fallen during the night and the hills are dusted in white. It looks grey and bleak outside, the sky has a bruised purple tinge. Not the best of days for newborn lambs. The first albatross fledgling took advantage of the strong winds to test its wings at the weekend and has taken off, heading towards South America. It won’t return to land for several years but will remain at sea. Good luck! Hope it doesn’t get caught on a fishing long line or swallow plastic. Wearing Journey today to wish it well.
https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/watch-first-albatross-fledgling-takes
I love albatross, thanks!
You and your evocative prose! Little Bo Peep now replaced by The Rime of the Ancient Mariner!
I would love to see an albatross…. I get so excited here when I see a bald eagle.
I really enjoy your writing 😊
Wearing Puredistance Gold for a cooler day. This is so excellent. I haven’t tried anything else from this line but I definitely want to at this quality
Luckyscent has free shipping this weekend…
What’s the promo code??
LABORDAY. It works for samples of Puredistance. 😀
You get an enabler pin
You get 2.
Testing tons of samples today, including Cockatiel. Thank you to foxbins for warning me and prompting me to order a sample before opening the bottle. This blind buy is going straight back to Luckyscent.
Getting a sample and the FB – this is so prudent for those of us in small towns with minimal perfume sniffing options. Thanks foxbins, and thanks cazaubon for bringing it up again. Glad you saved your $$ for something better!
But what is it like, pray divulge!
There is some harsh unpleasant note in it. Foxbins described it as smelling like Band-Aid plasters and speculated it could be the guaiac wood. I generally like guaiac, but there may be too much of it in this. It does smell a bit woody, but also like an odd chemical smell.
Interesting. I have had good luck with Z’s woods and spices perfumes, but not with their florals. This one I expected might work for me. Fair warning!
I like it when companies provide a sample in case you want to return the unopened FB! IIRC, Arielle Shoshana and Beautyhabit have this practice.
SotD Ciara – a vintage-ish bottle. Busy the last few days with my vegetable garden. I mostly cook and freeze tomatoes, with some snacking, sandwiches, salsa and sharing to use up the rest. Okra turns into gumbo and also gets fried and frozen. If you’ve never seen an okra plant, look up pictures! Mine are now 7 feet tall and the flowers are so pretty! Even mean ol’ wasps and yellow jackets ignore you as you brush down the rows, because they love the nectar and pollen of those flowers so much, and they know the hour is late…
Here’s Robert Frost poem I always liked: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44259/after-apple-picking
Have a great day off tomorrow, for those who are celebrating Labor Day!
I did not know okra had such pretty flowers!
Ciara is so beautiful. Decades ago one of my coworkers at the time wore this as her signature.
Ciara is so beautiful. Decades ago one of my coworkers at the time wore this as her signature.
That’s a nice memory! I love to smell perfume on the people around me. Alas, it is rare.
Lovely poem, thank you!
Oh wow! Okra flowers kind of remind me of hibiscus. Did not know they were so attractive.
I’ve been trying some Olfactive Studio samples for the past two days. I kind of like Chambre Blanche though it’s maybe too bland. I didn’t like Still Life. It’s got pepper, pepper, pepper. A few seconds after spraying it on my arm, I burst into a mega- sneezing fit. Zowie! That’s some pretty realistic black pepper in there. When I first tried them I decided to buy Chambre Noire, and I got it out and sprayed today. I still like it a lot. I don’t really get leather, but a woodsy plummy very smooth dark smell. It’s pleasant. Just had to go out shopping for some waterless cat shampoo for one of my old girls who is just not grooming herself, and I bought her some very tempting special chicken salmon food. It was a big hit! I’m softening her up for the attempted shampoo effort. Wish me luck!
Hope your old kitty girl will feel spiffy after her bath. My 15-ish girl has the same issue, and I have used towelettes to freshen her up! Your description of Chambre Noir made me think of Natori, the one with the lovely “window” bottle. Plummy, woodsy, smooth…have you ever tried that one?
No, I haven’t, but I’ll look for it!
ooo! What kind of towlettes specific to cats? We have the three fur grandbabies living with us at the moment and the almost ten year old often is in need of cleaning of her bottom but I don’t want to use baby wipes.
For the cat towelettes, the ones I got were “Well & Good Hypoallergentic Deodorizing Cat Wipes” from PetCo. There were about $16 for 100. You do have to use several but they helped.
Seconding or thirding: info please, on the kitty towelettes! Spooky kitty is kind of a slacker on keeping herself groomed.
I’m pretty sure I only have one Olfactive Studio FB and it’s Chambre Noir.
I went to some outlets yesterday and didn’t really try on much perfume. People seemed to be swarming over the discounted Jo Malones..they also had discounted Bitter Peach and Rose Prick. I think I tried on an Estee..Blushing Sands or something..was OK. I really want the Lavender Tom Ford one..but a bit expensive. I also did sniff the Scarlet Poppy by Jo Mo..was alright also. Like the bottle. I am commando with a bit of rose oil on. I may just slap on some No. 5. Classic beauty of a fume. I also saw a quick blast of fireworks go off..not sure why they had them but was cool lol. It’s been hot! 112 all week. 🔥. I drank several, large, frozen lemonades to quench. They have these lampstand type misters here that mist water on you but they don’t really do much lol.
A while back, I got the EL Luxury perfumes coffret. Blushing Sands was one of the standouts for me but, yes, it did not trigger an FB purchase. Question: by “outlets,” did you mean one of those Outlet Malls? There is one of those in Columbus, IN which is near me, but I never have made the trek. Interested that such a place has discounted Tom Ford and Jo Malone scents!
Yes, it’s an outlet mall store owned by Estee Lauder. It’s called The Cosmetics Company Store, here is a link.
https://www.thecosmeticscompanystore.com/en-us/
Unfortunately, it looks like they don’t have any fragrance on the site but have other kinds of goodies. (Not affiliated).
P.S. I
I was curious and there is one of these stores in Edinburgh, IN. Which would be the one closest to you:).
Thank you, Omega – you did my work for me; I now remember that the outlet is Edinburgh, not Columbus, IN. I see a road trip in my future – and Enabler Badges in yours.
I will melt where you are…
SorD is a tiny spritz from an unidentified travel spray I must have gotten in a long-ago swap. If I’m not mistaken it’ has the Amouage logo, and it’s big and hard to argue with. But that’s not all. I’m layering, if you will, with Salon Pas, alas, on my neck. The great news is 1) I *love* medicinal perfumes, 2) if anyone can wrestle with Salon Pas it would be something opulent and symphonic and Amouage-y, right? And 3) the Salon Pas is working pretty well, so maybe I can shower and start over before the day is done.
Are you using the roll on or the adhesive?
Adhesive. I didn’t know about roll-on. Do you find it works as well and interferes less with your perfume?
17 dabs of vintage White Linen perfume….the extra dab of my usual 16 sprays went to the spine as recommended to me by Jalapeno 🙂
You smell great!
thank you 🙂
Did the extra dab make a difference?
yes
LOL! Having more fun with your perfumes, I see! Or, rather smell!
my dear, you inspired a WHOLE NEW tradition…and yet another reason for an extra spray/dab 🙂
Currently testing out Like This. Smells kind of like scented toilet paper and not exactly enjoying this. Later on, I will be in Lyric.
Watched the first episode of the Rings of Power. I think that there are going to be too many story lines going on. What really bothered me was the flashing lights in the beginning and the edges of the screen kept flashing. If the 2nd episode has it, I won’t keep watching. I refuse to risk a seizure due to the flashing lights.
Do you have to pay extra to watch it or does it come with Prime (which I know is extra by itself)?
It comes with Prime.
I noticed that it was rated PG-14 and gave warnings of “flashing lights, alcohol use, frightening scenes , violence”. I have a good friend who has epilepsy and I fully understand why they state those warnings. She suggested to me to tell you NOT to watch it anymore, given that the warnings were stated.
Milk of Flowers for a long travel day.
Your favorite….
One of them…. but probably my favorite for travelling since it’s easy-going and comforting.
Bon voyage!!
Safe travels!
Been a busy holiday weekend. Working Fri-Monday, head in at noon today, but I expect it will become quiet in early afternoon. Town has been crazy busy. Lots of live music and games and families at the outdoor brew place across the street from the market. The usual people ignoring the signs that it’s private parking for market customers. Even if confronted, people just shrug and keep walking. (There is a fair amount of public parking, but it’s more of a walk.)
I’ve been wearing Chanel No. 19. It’s cool weather today, more clouds, so I may go for something that is cozier. Maybe Narciso (white cube) – just fewer spritzes than usual.
Got up extra early yesterday for church ushering gig at early service. Chatted for awhile after. Then we stopped at a local furniture and design store to check out sale prices on outdoor stuff. Still way too expensive. But…we went inside and found a well-priced sleeper sofa – we upgraded to memory foam mattress. Best part is we just got the one on the floor, so it’ll be delivered tomorrow. I love that we were able to buy local in town; it’s a nice store. And they do free delivery.
It is nice to find big purchases locally. My washer and dryer came from a local appliance store.
White cube is always a good choice!
What’s up with this heat wave? Lol 112 today ugh. L’eau en Rose Givenchy..for a light, no nonsense floral for the scorch. Made iced hot cocoa..tried to make it like Dunkins but failed. Mine is runny lol.
Rose twins today!🌹✌🏻
Happy Monday!
SOTD!
Diptyque Eau Rose, from a travel set of 5 perfumes.Pretty linear rose, with a smidgeon of honey and geranium.
Harvest of the day would then be rose petals for perfume and honey for afternoon tea.
XO’s🌹✌🏻🤗
Hey JB! Is the set all Eau Rose or do you get a choice of up to 5 different perfumes?
Hi H,it’s a set of 5 different ones,I’m not sure if there are other variations but mine contains:
Eau Rose
Philosykos
Do Son
L’Ombre dans l’Eau
Eau des Sens.
It’s 5x 7,5mls,all are in edt.
I thought it was a good all-round set,esp for someone who wants to discover the brand through some great classics in the Diptyque collection.
Oh and it’s the “L’Art du Parfum” set.
XO’s
I’m wearing a few sprays of Iris Silver Mist for my birthday! Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!
Happy birthday, Gail. You smell wonderful!
Thank you, h!
Super Happy Birthday!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Happy Birthday Gail, and you smell FANTASTIC of course!!
XO’s🌹🥳🥳🥳❣️
Thank you, j! ISM is such a great scent. I’m so glad to have it in my collection.
Happy birthday, you smell great!
Thank you! I forgot how potent ISM can be as it’s been awhile since I’ve worn it.
Happy Birthday Gail!
Thank you, adanst!
Happy Birthday Gail! You smell fabulous, of course and I will forever be grateful for your carrot oil idea – I use it every morning. Rooty goodness!!!
Thank you! And wow, you smell great every day then😄.
I’m so glad you love the carrot seed oil as much as I do. I was just stunned when I sampled it so I was glad to share it with us ‘fumies!
I’ve been meaning to follow up on the carrot seed oil, too. Happy Birthday!
Thank you, MB! It sounds like there’s a few of us; it’s a good club to be in. Maybe we need a t-shirt with “Rooty Goodness” on it.
Nothing like the heavenly smell of carrot seed oil. Highly recommended! 🥕
Happy, happy, happy birthday, Gail! 🎂. You smell amazing!
Thank you, m! It’s sure a top-tier fragrance!
Happy Scented Birthday, Gail! 🎂🥂💐🎁 Any special plans?
Thank you, Jalapeno! No plans today..we tidied up the yard and now I’m enjoying a beverage on the nicely cleaned up deck in the sun. It is back to hot after a slight reprieve. My hubby’s birthday is on the 11th so we usually have a combo birthday party with his family.
happy birthday!!!!
Thank you, cm!
Happy birthday, Gail!
Hi Sapphire! Thank you!
Happy birthday Gail! I hope your whole weekend was wonderful. 🎂
SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum
One of the best from MFK and I believe discontinued.
Had a nice lunch yesterday with my sister and BIL and their little Havanese.
Binged watched Downton Abbey on Amazon Prime – I’m all about not spending anything extra because I already subscribe to services that include entertainment. Any Amazon Prime recommendations?
A friend’s husband was diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago and had been going through chemo. He was recently found to have several operable brain tumors and they were removed. He just got an extension in his rehab facility for this week which would allow my friend to do some quick reno on their house to accommodate a wheelchair. He is still very weak and will have to go through more PT. Looking back, in providing my friend with the cost of my mom’s care, I never realized how much everything cost and this was the cost from 2019! Also, my friend was quite unaware of her benefits as a caregiver; she was allowed 5 weeks of paid critical caregiver leave vs having to use FMLA which would be unpaid. Anyway, if a friend is going through difficulties, reach out to them to offer practical help even if they don’t ask.
That was wonderful of you, and in fact, I never knew a thing about the paid critical caregiver leave! In fact I did not need it, as I was semi-retired when my mother first came to live with me, but others should definitely know about it. You were a good friend to share that information with her.
I love Ciel de Gum! I have a small vial of it, and treasure it.
Amazon Prime recommendations: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; Mozart in the Jungle; The Durrells in Corfu; Fleabag; A Very British Scandal.
Very kind of you to share that valuable information with your friend!
I’ve been pondering checking out The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime. The teasers I saw were gorgeous! However, I’ve heard mixed reviews on the story.
Thank you for passing along more valuable info for caregivers! 🥰
Best wishes to your friend and her husband. Caregivers need moral and monetary support! I wish I had grabbed a bottle of MFK Absolue Pour le Soir before it was discontinued.
Catching up with laundry today and that’s about it. It’s overcast and blissfully cool here; we had a fire in the backyard last night. So nice to be home.
Wearing and loving Lublin Idole today.
Do you find it sweet? Based on notes, it looks like a contender for the friend I described a couple days ago.
I don’t think it’s especially sweet…soft and spicy, perfect for fall.
Wonderful, thank you!
I’m getting ready to go out to visit Mom. Hope she is up and awake today, you never know any more. It’s a hot one–so what’s new, September in Houston. At least not as hot as California is right now, wow.
I’m wearing SL Santal Blanc, and finding it way too sweet. I’m not sure I have a Holy Grail sandalwood scent, probably the one from MPG. I’d love to find a really really dry one, non-sweet.
I hope your visit goes well and you have a nice time with your mum. The Crabtree Evelyn sandalwood is dry but I think it has been discontinued. The other nice sandalwood is Fiele perfumes Santalum (?) but that might be too sweet as it has jasmine. Maybe Goldfield and Banks too? I still haven’t got back to Stranger. Have been too distracted.
For a bone-dry sandalwood, try Villoresi Sandalo. Really good.
Have you tried Guerlain’s Santal Pao Rosa? I find that it’s on the dry side.
Hi Calypso, I find Etro Sandalo to be a nice, soft, not-to-sweet sandalwood!
Another hot sticky day in San Diego. Five more days to go of the heat wave from hell. I’m wearing TRNP Blue Lotus Darjeeling, comparing it to the original Blue Lotus. The Darjeeling version is as advertized, has a beautiful tea note.
Sending you a snowball!
Ugh! Sending you some cool breezes from here. We finally got a small stretch of cooler weather, and I’m thankful. Never thought I’d say those words.
Your tea scent sounds wonderful. I love a tea fragrance when it’s hot out.
Sending you some cool, rainy weather vibes! 💧☔
It is so darned hot right now lol
It snowed yesterday and today the garden is under a thick layer and all the hills around are glowing white through the dark. It’s cold. Sitting in bed with two dogs and a cup of coffee trying to warm up. Wearing Coco. Poor lambs and birds.
I’d love to trade places with you right now!
Hey, has anyone tried Azzaro The Most Wanted for men? I smelled it while in Louisiana and loved it but I may have been influenced by missing my collection….it might just be a generic tobacco amber. I would appreciate any feedback.
https://youtu.be/ICuwqcPbAp8
Here’s a review from one of my favorite men’s perfume reviewers. I haven’t tried it.
Thanks lillyjo, that’s very helpful!
Popping in quickly for a PSA: Liz Zorn of Soivohle is phasing out the Modern Collection of scents. So if there is something you’ve wanted, now is the time!
Aaaaaaand you got me — another enabler pin goes to you, jalapeno! Blind buy, but I think a safe one because (a) it’s a suede leather scent, which nearly always works well for me, and (b) Soivohle!
Hope that it works out for you!
I have most of what I wanted already from the Modern Collection in 10mL bottles, so money saved (this time, ha)!
Thanks Jalapeno! I really like Soivohle.
Now smelling of Beige, Chanel. Which I may sell..the top notes have faded. Plus a musk that is bothersome. Galaxolide..I am thinking of you..you brat. Lol. I love this after a few mins of wear..smells like the original. I just thought I should get rid of it before it fades more. I don’t see the point in keeping scents that are turning. Bummer cause it is lovely..but likely won’t grab it as I am impatient with the top notes being muddy. I am thinking in general it would be nice just to have samples or minis..fbs I just don’t go through as much. I much like to just grab a sample and drain it lol
Back to post SOTD! Been busy today making a batch of green chili in the crockpot. It smells promising, but doesn’t look like the meat is cooked enough yet. I may need to add more time on the timer.
SOTD = L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer, from the sample stash.
I thunked a sample over the long weekend. Goodbye to Alien Aqua Chic EdT. Enjoyed it!
Woo hoo for the thunk!
And an extra Woo hoo for the chili!
I ended up making 2 different kinds of chili over the weekend. There are now plenty of tasty leftovers in the fridge. 😋 Plus, chili is one of those things that gets better as if it sits in the chill chest for a couple of days.
Green chili, great idea! I love to cook with a crockpot; everything turns out so delicious!
It’s so much easier making green chili in a crockpot instead of in a big honking pot on the stove! It may not be 100% authentic, but it tastes really good anyway.
SOTD is VCA Orchidee Vanille. Pretty, but too sweet for what I wanted today. Absolutely nuclear staying power, of course. Winding down a lazy Labor Day weekend. Making a sheet pan Thai-style coconut curry fish with cherry tomatoes and plenty of ginger and cilantro!
Thai here, too.. See Ew noodles with tofu. I liked the Orchidee Vanille, but it was pretty strong!
