It's Hump Day and the end of August. (And a quick PSA: the next swapmeet will be on September 17.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Estancia.
Reminder: 9/2 is the start of Labor Day weekend. As we did in 2021, take a break from community projects and wear what you want.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s a gloomy morning with rain on the way, and I am in the equally dark and portentous Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme, the only one of their scents I ever needed to own a full bottle of. Some days the only thing that will do is a scent that bares its teeth.
Are you getting that big storm sweeping up through NY/Vermont?
Maybe? I’m in eastern Canada and for next six hours or so it is supposed to just bucket down. Like half an inch of rain an hour.
Wow, that’s impressive.
As usual the weather forecasters promised more than they could deliver. Now they’re saying about 3-4 millimetres of rain an hour, about an eighth of an inch, until midnight or so. Still a lot, but nothing of mythic proportions. They’re promising lightning later tonight, something I love: here’s hoping.
Ah, good luck with the lightning then! Since I’ve had houses struck by lightning twice, it is not my favorite thing 🙂
DSHPerfumes Muresque today for August blackberries. I’ve been picking lots of delicious blackberries down by the train tracks to top our granola.
Today is a full day from Goodwill drop-offs to unshopping errands (like Pixel yesterday) to going to my first movie since the pandemic hit (yep, Top Gun) to our fantasy football draft this evening. Phew. Happy Wednesday!
Oh at Regal on Sat only is 3 dollars per movie. Not sure if you are going there but good deal:) might have to use the regal app to get the deal idk
Thanks – invited by a friend who could only go today.
Yum! Blackberries!
Fresh blackberries off the vine are the only way to go. The ones in the grocery store are always hard and flavorless.
“Vine” is such a polite way of putting it. I love blackberries but always felt they were a booby prize when harvesting from my own garden. 😬
Enjoy the movie!
Ah, Muresque. Still a bit too warm here for it.
Missed out on the blackberries from our own canes this summer. The bleeping squirrels stole all the ripe ones. 🤬
DSH triplets with Robin and springpansy in Electric Summer! I will also try her Starry Nightshade (love the name!) and maaaybe Kale later. Robin, what have you liked out of the ones you’ve tried recentlyish?
Always like to hear about DSH favourites, as there is a bewildering array.
Yes, it’s easy to get overwhelmed for sure! The trick that works for me is to search her website by note.
Nice showing for DSH today!
I liked the rose trio from earlier this year. Today’s is a really fun thick tarry leather that is all wrong for the weather and I will have to try it later in the year. I did not love Pineapple King. The Vachi (sandalwood) I need to try again…seemed really nice but not sure I gave it adequate attention that day.
Thanks! I expected
Electric Summer to be interesting, but I didn’t find it to be so. Starry Nightshade is, though – it has a great peppery tomato leaf note. I like it!
She does such great vegetable notes. I still love Kaleidoscope.
Both Electric Summer and Starry Nightshade are awesome names!
I know!
I’m in Nicolai Fig-Tea and taking it easy this morning. Mr. G and I drove out to the Oregon coast yesterday, and walked and walked and WALKED on the sand for hours. I used to go out there for a week each September when I was single, but because of lockdowns and so on I hadn’t seen my beloved coast for 4 or 5 years. My spirit is refreshed, but my body isn’t used to that much activity anymore. 😬 Must remedy that!
Or coast is lovely, which beach did you hit up?
We did Seaside first (hordes of people!), and then Arcadia Beach (quieter and much more my preferred style). It was cloudless and sunny until around 4:00 when the fog rolled in from offshore.
The ocean is a must for me.
Me too. I wish I could live on the coast, but Mr. G would lose his mind — grey gets him down.
I miss the Oregon coast! Haven’t been in some years now. So glad you were able to get there!
Hello!
Sotd is Hummingbird.
Another month gone and it’s finally Fall. So happy 🍁
Glad someone is pleased 😉
Ugh another scorcher..they are saying about 112f bleh. Lol getting a few ebay packages out before the sun goes on murder mode lol. Lol one lady wanted an item 50% off plus free ship to Kazakhstan. I am not sure exactly where that is but I know it would cost a few bucks to ship there lol. So, she canceled.
More Pixi Rose Oil then dark chocolate ginger snacks later..and some kind of iced beverage. Off to beat this sun before it beats me! Lol
I guess it never hurts to ask, but that’s ridiculous re the discount and shipping.
I don’t mind paying for shipping as I know business is business; however, if a company makes me think that I am paying $15 to have something shipped from the UK to the US and it turned out to be shipped to me from a NJ warehouse to me in NJ and NOT overnight shipping, there’s a problem. I got my $15 back.
Oh wow, good thing you got your funds back. Sheesh, what a scam.
I’m waiting for an eye exam, wearing Balle de Match. I’m on vacation and this is my fourth appointment of the week. It’s just easier to do them on vacation, than to take time off from work.
Do you get sick days or is your time off all rolled into the same PTO?
You smell great PriscillaE!
In Serge Luten L’Eau Froide.
I am glad it is the last day of August. The past two weeks have been very hard with my mother and now my dog Yei hospitalized. My mother with heart and Yei with kidney issues. Too much to handle at the same time, but patiently waiting for them to bounce back, hopefully some time soon. Praying vehemently for it.
It is a beautiful sunny, breezy day here today. On my way out now to spend my lunch time having an iced coffee and taking a long walk. Looking forward to a more relaxing September. Crossing fingers! 🤞
Happy, healthy and peaceful Wednesday, everyone! 🌻
Oh my goodness! Praying with you.
Sending healing prayers for your mom and Yei.
Praying with you. 🌷
Thinking of you — and your mom & Yei.
Oy! It is a lot to handle. You and your loved ones are in my prayers.
Praying with you, pl67.
Hope they both turn the corner, and soon…
How difficult, for sure sending all the healing your way.
I really hope that things improve soon and the coming weeks are less stressful and anxious for you. Thinking of you and sending you lots of love.
Hope your loved ones will be better soon.
Thinking of all of you!! ❤️ 🙏
Sending healing thoughts for you and your family.
I was thinking about you just the other day. So sorry to hear that both your Mom and Yei are having medical issues. Hugs, and heals.
Sending hugs!
Neroli Outrenoir for another warm muggy day of digging out of my boxes. Need to go through two large bins of tea and refill my canisters & sort out what goes where. Living in a house with two packrats, there is no place to put anything away. :-/
I know how that works — we are packrats too! It must help that you guys move around so much though? I feel like we badly need a move after 25 years in the same house. Stuff just accumulates.
LOL. We’ve been in our house for 27 years. Ever since I retired (2 years ago!) I’ve been sorting thru stuff and stuff and more stuff. Still gotta finish the garage, though it’s too hot to work in there now. And I still have waaaaaaay more clothes than a retired person could possibly use.
The clothes!! My husband is even worse than me…he has never thrown out a t shirt in his life, he has drawers and drawers.
I’m the one that moves – the two packrats are my husband and his son. The San Diego house belongs to them. They’ve been here for 20+ years and never move, so I’m the only one who has to pare down. Fortunately I own the place in Canada and can lay down the law about what comes in and what has to go. 🙂
Ah, that makes sense.
Iris sniff-off, with Infusion d’Iris Absolue vs. L’Attesa. L’Attesa is the winner, which is good since I stumped up for a 100 ml. of it,. I hadn’t known that size existed existed, and it was at a discounter, so it was only the price of a fancy Guerlain.
I prefer L’Attesa too. Would love to have one of those 100ml bottles!
Leaving in a few minutes to go to my local county fair today. After this morning’s drama and phone calls, there isn’t a whole lot more I can do with the drama today. Wearing Au Coeur du Desert. Au Coeur is one of those perfumes that’s perfect for fall and going to county fairs.
Have fun! I love county fairs.
Hope the fair makes up for the drama Dawn!
SOTD = Kilian, love don’t be shy Extreme
I had to counteract a MEH fragrance that thankfully did not last long – 🌈 🍡 🦄 💩 makes things better!
I may have mentioned that my cable TV is back except for weird coloring. I did not do anything other than letting it rest. Now I have to figure out how to fix it. While trying to fix ot several weeks ago, I may have touched a setting and of course I can’t figure out what I did. Anyway, it’s better than incessant screeching and inability to turn it off except almost by chance.
You smell fantastic!
Thank you!
LOL! Coincidence alert! I was talking with a perfume curious friend yesterday, and mentioned Unicorn Poop as one of the terms used in conversation. And here you are talking about it today.
I like that – perfume curious! And absolutely, what a coincidence!
She likes and wears perfume, but is more than happy to have me spelunking the depths of perfume mania. A couple of samples I gave her recently might turn into full bottles…
Was going to go for Chanel No. 19 today but decided to do my mash-up of Kiss Me Intense (with its bitter almond) and Elie Saab L’Eau Couture (with its sweet almond). Appropriate for work in the bakery department.
Will admit I’m lemming the Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Milk…. It’s sounds pretty delicious.
Just the name sounds delicious.
I’m testing Hera again. This time it just seems incomplete, like when I play around with single note perfumes and find a beautiful combination— but it just doesn’t ever come together as a proper new perfume in its own right. Somehow it needs to be more, but also less. Maybe it did strike the perfect chord for a wedding scent, beautiful, hopeful, and unfinished?
Not perfume related as I don’t know Hera but Spain!!!! What a wonderful adventure and at the perfect time of year. Very exciting. I hope you have fun planning the trip and can set any nerves aside and relax and enjoy it all.
Me too. Right now I am vacillating between the extremes. I spent a year traveling by myself around the world with just a backpack and dirty/sweaty money pouch around my waist, I should be able to handle Madrid. Oooopf but it has been a loooong time.
Even though I read reviews, I expected something different. I really wanted to love it! It just never lifted or opened up on my skin. I felt emotionally uncomfortable with it, which is pretty weird. I found it dense and almost somber, perhaps fitting for an initiation? Thinking along the same lines as you, I suppose that a wedding could be considered that. Now I’ve gotten myself interested in exploring it further!
That is so funny. I know what you mean. The power of explication to attract! I never wound up purchasing it, but I remember some deep thoughts about Le Labo’s Patchouli back in the day. They kept me coming back to try it again and again!
TDC Sel de Vetiver as a summer last hurrah…supposed to be warm here today, but at least it’s cooling down at night. Crazy week / month at work, and not at all good news stuff that I’m working on. Sigh.
But in random good news, two of the three supermarkets within a few blocks of me are switching their rewards programs today, and apparently for some reason that means they needed to have a fire sale and clear inventory off their shelves. So last night they were selling things for $0.99 and $1.99, or more expensive things for 75% or more off. (I got a $17 bottle of maple syrup for $5, for example). They didn’t announce it and there weren’t signs in the store; you just kind of had to know that any price tag on the shelf with a red dot was discounted some amount and hope it was substantial. By the time the word got out from my neighbors, the locusts had descended and the shelves were pretty bare, but I still got about $150 of groceries for $65, so I’ll take it!
How bizarre, but yay for you!
That’s awesome! Score on the maple syrup!
Glad that you got some groceries goodies before everything was gone!
Spring! At last. This has been a long winter and we may still get snow on Saturday. But yesterday in the gardens there were daffodils, blue bells, crocuses, wood anemones and magnolias and the honey eating birds were singing . My friend and I drew pictures of leaves but were disturbed by a loud crowing and a portly rooster came stomping out of the bushes. It was clearly quite tame as it came up to us and seemed cross we didn’t have food. It stayed nearby crowing away. I would guess that some has dumped it, as roosters tend to be unpopular in suburban gardens. I can hear one now in the distance. I talked to a gardener later and she said he’d arrived at the weekend and they were working on finding a home, or alternative arrangements. The later sounded ominous. He was a very fine animal with fluffy feathers over his claws. Wearing Cristalle, for spring growth.
Spring! You smell wonderful!🌞
Yay for spring flowers!
Hurray for spring!
Oh that all sounds lovely! But hope the rooster finds a home.
Mugler Alien Extraordinaire – I forgot how much this one is. I might need to switch this from my summer wardobe to cooler months. It’s pretty; I am getting more grapey jasmine and amber than usual, I typically get more tea.
So after an hour or so this died down from a big scent bubble to more of a skin scent. I only applied two tiny sprays, so was a good reminder about Mugler power, lol.
Amber does overwhelm me in heat, although it is a favorite note I just keep it to the cooler months.
I don’t think I can wear Alien (the regular) in summer at all.
Feeling very sad today. My sister-in-law (my brother’s partner’s sister) had liposarcoma about 2 years ago. It’s a rare cancer and she had tumors in her abdomen which were successfully surgically removed. There are a few different major kinds…but hers were well differentiated, the preferable kind, and all her margins were negative with no spread. She has been getting scans every 6 months and her last was in March w/ nothing found.
She felt something a week or two ago, got a scan last week and they saw 4 tumors. She visited her previous surgeon yesterday and these are a different kind…maybe dedifferentiated or one of the other kinds which have worst prognoses. She will need to have chemotherapy to shrink them before surgery is an option I think…and may start chemo as early as next week.
She is such a beautiful woman, inside and out, in her early 50s and it just breaks my heart.
Going to put on something w/ vanilla in a bit for comfort.
So sorry, I hope the chemo and surgery will be effective.
That’s really tough news for your SIL and for you too after the year you have just gone through. Sending you a big hug and lots of strength.
What awful news. Lots of hugs to you and your family.
Seriously bad but I hope they caught these in time for a successful chemo then surgery.
Hoping for a good outcome for your SIL. Big vanilla hugs!
Big hug, She-ra and prayers for your sister-in-law.
Oh She-ra; sending you big hugs.
Aw. Sorry to hear this, She-ra. Sending vanilla vibes of strength and healing your way. And hugs, too.
I am so so sorry to hear this. You and she are in my thoughts.
More hugs, She-ra, that’s a shame. Fingers crossed for a successful treatment.
Joining Team Nicolai in Riviera Verbena. Nice for a warm day. We woke up to no power but thankfully it’s back now, in time for the a/c we’ll be needing this afternoon.
My unshopping yesterday was successful. Re-shopped a little: bought a summery white purse at Macy’s which, after clearance price then star rewards then star money ended up costing $18.50 including tax. How could I NOT buy? That’s purse-math free 🙂
Wow, excellent deal on that purse!
Yay for power and yay for free purse 🙂
Split alert!
I couldn’t wait. So in the offing are the two new Divines: L’été Orange Rouge and L’été Narguilé.
See https://nstperfume.com/2022/08/26/divine-lete-orange-rouge-narguile-new-fragrances/
I’ve paid in euros, so we’ll see what the final cost is, but roughly speaking, including packaging and shipping to you, it should be no more than $12 for 5 mls, and no more than $20 for 10 mls, and it probably will be less.
If you live in the CONUS, and would like decants of one or both, please email me 1. your name, 2. your handle/avatar name on NST, 3. your address in the US, and 4. how much of either/both you want.
Please do not send me money, yet!
I will want to be paid via PayPal or Amazon, but not until it is confirmed that the bottles indeed have left the seller, and what is the final amount/exchange rate I was charged. I will email you back with the final details and then you can pay me if you still want the decant/s. ;-)! 😉
Lemme know: ann (dotty) eisenberg (at) comcast (dotty) net
I am sort of preparing for my trip Saturday. How I hate flying, will be happy though once I’m in France.
Cacharel Noa today and tonight Caron Aimez-Moi.
Give my regards to France and have a wonderful trip!
I will, thank you!
Safe travels! I know that you have missed being in France so much.
Thank you, yes homesick.
Have a great trip! How long will you be staying?
Almost two months.
Have a wonderful trip!
Thank you Gail.
J’adore Caron Aimez-moi! Bon voyage!
Thank you all, I love AM too.
Happy Wednesday!
SOTD!
Continuing my Byredo week, yesterday I was in Bal d’Afrique and today Oliver Peoples. There is a thread winding through all the Byredo perfumes in my collection,I’m guessing they also have something like a “Guerlinade”,or maybe a Jerome Epinette signature, although I’m not sure he’s done all the ones I have.
XO’s on a surprise last spur of true Winter tonight!
🌹✌🏻
Jerome has definitely done La Tulipe and Bal d’Afrique, and a couple of other favorites from other brands like Silver Iris,Morning Chess…I’m a fanboy.🤭
Happy last night of true winter!( for awhile anyway)🌞
First day of September, I’m very glad our wet winter is officially over. I’m meeting some friends for dinner tonight, I don’t go out after work very often, so looking forward to it. I’ve decided on Fort and Manle’s Meraki today.
Yay for spring and an evening out!
Have fun Gaynor!
Italian perfume house is Bogue and I’m in I ❤️YY. I have to get up stupid early for my flight to Maryland tomorrow. Weekend hanging out with friends there, then we fly out Mon for Italy. So excited!
Wow, exciting! Bon voyage!
Safe travels, and enjoy your trip!
This morning I used an aging sample of Ray of Light. Wow that’s a bright top note! Then I felt something grumbling or gravelly and maybe cuminous and also the mint separated out. The mint stage was like drinking strong hot mint tea, but iced, but still as fragrant as if it were hot. That was odd and fun! The drydown belonged to a different perfume, I felt. The overall experience made me think of accidentally adding milk to a cup of tea that already has lemon in it. I’m starting to think I have become a much tougher perfume customer during my hiatus. Although… I plan on Moon Bloom again tonight. I’m so pleased to have that sample with me on brief holiday. It’s poised to become my SotVacation, evening edition.
Sorry for posting in the wrong spot
I’m in Both Sides of Clouds. It seemed appropriate since it’s cloudy and are expecting a thunderstorm to roll through later on. It’s a nice reprieve from the heat!
I’m a big fan of Thunderstorms and wish we had more of them in the PNW.
I’m a fan too! I grew up watching them with my dad on the front step.
🙂
Looking forward to the thunderstorms again in Montreal! Love the dramatic weather.
A laid-back Wednesday for me. I thought about doing some cooking today and decided Nah, that’s what leftovers are for. The trimmers and leaf blowers echoing thru my neighborhood added to my inertia. Maybe tomorrow I will cook?
SOTD = Chanel Bois des Iles EdT, from the sample stash.
Funny, it’s stupid hot out here but what do I want to do? Bake cookies. Go figure.
It was a beautiful late summer day here. Would have been perfect, except for all the racket outside.
I think about baking cookies every so often, but that’s about as far as I get.
Laid back is good! And you smell wonderful!
Thank you! I will be sad when I thunk my sample, but happy that it was used and enjoyed while it was still good. Definitely do not want it going off! 😱
It would be extra sad to save it only to have it go off.
Leaf blower twins today! You hit it right on, they do contribute to inertia. Glad you took advantage of it.
Gah! Sorry you had that inflicted on you as well.
I think the gardeners like to torture us in the complex because there can’t be that much stuff to blow around. How about raking stuff up and getting rid of it instead of blowing the same stuff around each week!
I’m wearing TF Soliel Blanc today and then putting it away until after Christmas when I will immediately start craving summer perfume. I used half my travel spray this season!
I tried to guess my coworkers sotd and I guessed Jimmy Choo edp. Wrong! She said it was Miss Dior. I think it was probably the second to the last current version because it was heavy on the patchouli and I didn’t smell ambroxan. I didn’t press her for the version because I know I already sound like a weirdo. Lol.
We were almost twins yesterday. I wore Eau de Soleil Blanc since summer is in its last throes.
