It's the last weekend in August — many of the schools in my area will be back in session on Monday. We're marking the end of the summer holiday with our usual open thread poll. (Labor Day is not until September 5 this year, so some areas have another week to go, and of course, some of you are watching for signs of spring.)
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance that will remind you of summer 2022, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I’ve really enjoyed the New Essential Faith “ Bliss” this summer. It’s beach 🏖 vibes and easy to wear.
That sounds perfect!
I’m wearing 4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender & Thyme, a clean, bracing lavender perfectly suited for an overcast summer day.
Speaking of herby things, my balcony flowerpots may have been a failure, but the little pots of herbs are going gangbusters, particularly the basil, which I have never grown before. After a slow start, it’s exploded, and the scent is astonishing: you just have to spray it with water or graze a few leaves with your hand to send this great tumult of basil perfume into the air. Even from feet away you can smell it. I’m probably going to harvest a bunch of it next weekend and turn it into pesto, because there is not much better than good pesto on hot pasta, so simple and so delicious.
All of those scents sound wonderful. Fresh basil. But the lavender and thyme sounds really good.
Awesome – I love growing herbs, they are so rewarding. Highly recommend Bon Appetit’s Pesto recipe (“BA’s Best Pesto”)! I sometimes make a big batch and freeze cubes in an ice cube tray to garnish winter soups or spread on sandwiches later.
We do the same thing with Marcella Hazan’s blender recipe, or we used to when we kept a veggie garden. Many years we put aside enough pesto (usually frozen without the cheese, but sometimes with) to last the whole year.
No garden this year, and the 3 small basil plants we have (and clip regularly for caprese) aren’t enough to bother with pesto.
Can you just freeze the leaves or you have to crush the basil and freeze?
If you’re doing pesto, the leaves will keep much better if they are at least in the oil. Done in the food processor with the oil, the garlic, the pine nuts & salt, even better. They usually say to freeze before you add the cheese but I have done it both ways and it works fine.
We do first in ice cube trays, then break the tray into a big plastic baggie and suck out all the air, that way you can fit lots of them.
My basil has gone nuts this summer, with all the rain we’ve had! Two plants in my raised beds are more like basil shrubs than plants. Yes, I do make pesto. Love it, love it, love it! I love the smell of basil, the taste of basil, the look of basil. I put sprigs of it in cocktails if/when we serve them (still easing back into social activity post-COVID).
Oh, I’m late reading this, but I just made pesto last night! Only I made walnut pesto, which I think is every bit as good as the kind with pine nuts. I just had it over some thin spaghetti and it was so good!
I have never tried it but I should.
My Scent of Summer 2022 will be Paris-Deauville — bought it in March, wore it all through summer. But this morning I’m in Tam Dao to go with the slight chill of an overcast morning. Wore myself out yesterday digging a hole (long story) big enough for a hydrangea that’s been unhappily languishing in a large pot for a year or two. I have lots of sore muscles now, but it’s worth it as the plant already looks healthier.
Paris-Deauville has certainly been nice with the heat this summer.
So perfect for it!
We are scent of the summer siblings, mine has been Biarritz. This line feels like it’s made for summer to me.🌞
I need to try others besides Deauville. Biarritz, you say — how pronounced is the LOTV in it?
For me not very, it’s mostly a citrus imo. Happy to send you a small decant if you’d like! I got the big bottle, so have volume to spare.😉 I’m p k wisdom(one word) in the land of yahoooo.
Yay, I love hydrangeas.
Paris-Deauville is my SOTD today!
I am wearing Dior Diorissimo today. I have worn this a lot this summer, since purchasing it when I was on my Florida vacation in June. Its funny that a fragrance from the 1950’s is reminding me of summer 2022.
I did purchase the Les Creations version of Diorissimo. I am not sure what the difference is between this one and the original, but I am sure there are differences.
Best not to ever smell the older ones!
In the mood for a sumptuous jasmine, wearing a bit of vintage Joy.
The light is changing so fast these days–can sense fall’s on the way.
Just got a new releases email from Luckyscent–listen to the notes in a fragrance called Holy Hell from Universal Flowering:
Moroccan neroli, underripe melon, beach ball accord, toasted seashells, violet Coppertone and ambergris. Am kinda intrigued!
Wow. Sounds like Beach Blanket Bingo gone horribly wrong. Kinda makes me wonder what their definition of “hell” is. 😅
Lol
P.S. after smelling this Viva La Juicy Glace sample..I would imagine a hell smelling like that. Lol total white musk bomb..this is terrible. Lol. I feel like I smell this scent everywhere. These screechy sharp florals blanketed with musk and a huge trail that last miles. 🤮
Gah. That kind of musk is the WORST. Blech.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Just give me the violet Coppertone and I’ll be happy 🙂
I read that list and am left with absolutely no clue as to whether I’d want to try it or not!
Wearing one spray of Aromatics Elixir which I tested this morning at the Macy’s counter because the entire cosmetics and fragrance selections were 15 percent off, including Chanel. Still on the lookout for Cristalle EDT. No luck. But AE current formulation still bears resemblance to the original I wore in the 70s and 80s and I like it. Thanks , Gail, for reminding me to sample it,
Wow, nice deal!
Yes. I bought a bottle of Calyx
Happy to hear that the current-ish formulation of Aromatics Elixir passes muster! 😉
It sure does!
It means that I don’t have any FOMO with my new-ish bottle of AE. 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you got to try the new AE!
It’s quite good!
SOTD is Vahina.
Question of the day-I am thinking about exploring some other perfume houses, but there are so many out there. I am just going by some of the posts I have seen and notice quite a bit of love for Parfum D’empire, Tauer, Teo Cabanel and Hiram Green just to name a few. Suggestions? Not that I need any more perfume, but need to branch out a little. TIA.
St Clair Scents, Sonoma Scent Studio, Dame Perfumery to add to your list
Thanks so much. I thought of SSS and already have several from Dame. I am not familiar with St Clair.
Tauer and Hiram Green both offer nice discovery sets.
Thanks for letting me know that.
Happy to enable!😉
As does (did?) Teo Cabanel. Mine came with a coupon to put toward a FB purchase.
Thanks for letting me know😊
If you’re in the US, I’m happy to send you some Empire samples.. I have lots 🙂 Feel free to reach out: sarahbneuner in gee male
Thanks Sarah. You are so kind.
Ormonde Jayne has some nice discovery sets, too. Plenty of love for them here. 🙂
Thanks. I have tried a few of those.
Seconding Sonoma Scent Studio and Tauer a little late.
Thanks Jalapeno. I did order several samples today and Tauer is in the mix.
Weekend!
SOTD: Anthony Hopkins EDP sprayed into the cool morning air.
Overcast today and a relief from the overbearing heat. Will finish planting out the fall veggie garden- then a bike ride and the movies later- Three Thousand Years of Longing today, maybe Bullet Train tomorrow?
I highly recommend Inu-Oh (if you like Japanese anime), EEE (seen it twice in theaters- just glorious) and Marcel with the Shoes on (if you like stop motion animation and absurdist films) .
I just like the idea of Anthony Hopkins sprayed into the cool morning air!
I do not know if I will ever go to a theater again, which seems sort of sad but it’s by choice.
NEZ Ambre à Levres for a cooler summer day. It’s always good.
Finally a Saturday where I don’t have to rush out the door for one reason or another. Probably will have to tomorrow, ha, but enjoying slow coffee today.
I’ve got several fragrances lined up for our cp this coming week (wear a fragrance that says August to you–love this one!).
I thought of you yesterday when I wore Ambre à Levres. It’s so lovely.
And I’m glad you’re enjoying some spaciousness on this cloudy but cozy day.
♥ What’re you wearing today?
Ooh I just noticed this on the Le Nez site…safe blind buy?
Yes, if you like the “smell of mom’s handbag” – violet, amber, lipstick, suede (maybe I just imagine that last note). Soft and classy.
Happy weekend! Fall is on the way! The nights here are getting cooler and daytime temps are wonderful so long as you’re not in full sunshine. My mood is definitely improving! I keep moving my chair in my camp site as the shade from the pine trees moves. Still warm enough to wear my maxi dresses as long as I have a sweater or jean jacket on. Not looking forward to getting back into jeans and flannels because these dresses are just so EASY! I think I have about 8 of them now, so I’m good for a full week! 😀
Still wearing Kalemat from Arabian Oud, which I spritzed last night as I climbed into bed. Will respray again this morning to keep it going. This is one of my favorite scents. For me, it’s comfort in a bottle-sweet tobacco, Amber, and a few spices, and some honey. According to the official note list, top notes are blueberry and anise…I’m going to have really pay attention when I respray this morning to see if I can catch a whiff of those two. To me, it’s a poignant reminder of my dad’s pipe smoking days.
Speaking of blueberries, we started the day with Blueberry Pancakes and T-Rex was kind enough to help me with the dishes 🥰 We will probably hang out in camp today since we were fairly active yesterday on the beach and then climbed up to a lighthouse yesterday A lot of people still out and about. Hoping after Labor Day things calm down. Met many people at the lighthouse that had to stop and give T-Rex some pets and attention, which she feels is very deserved. She’s currently on squirrel alert, attentively scanning the tree tops and wood piles for any side of rodents whose neck she can snap. She very quick, so they should be very cautious! 🐿
Be well!

Has she ever caught one? Our lab used to love chasing rabbits and once she actually caught one. I think she actually surprised herself because then she didn’t seem to know what to do with it. lol.
She’s never caught a squirrel but she catches mice all the dang time! I was walking her on a leash not too long ago, when suddenly she went airborne, diving nose first into some bushes and popped out with a mouse. One squeak, a quick shake of her head, and there was the dead mouse, laid at my feet like an offering. She had no remorse. 😬
Wow, she must be fast! Wish she’d have been at my house last summer when we had our mouse invasion.😂
Those ears!!! What a cute dishwasher T-Rex is 🙂
Yes, those ears! They are her Secret Alien Communication System. She keeps my up to date on extraterrestrial activity…! 👽🛸
I’m in Chanel Biarritz, which has been my most worn perfume this summer followed by Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir and No.5 L’eau. I tallied up my numbers yesterday. Getting ready to swap out my perfume tray this Thursday. September 1 already?! Nooo.😩
I was up early and got my girls up early (for them) and went down to the farmers market. It was already suuuuuper crowded by 8 o’clock. We got corn, beans, tomatoes, cantelope, cheese curds and cinnamon rolls.
We have started watching The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix. 2 episodes in and so far we all really like it. I’m not sure what Netflix means by a limited series….does that mean there is just one season?
Yes that’s what it means. I loved the fashion in Queen’s Gambit
Same, and the set designs!
Mmm farmer’s market:) it’s too hot here in the summer to have those..maybe they have them in the fall idk would have to check. They are so fun. And yummy free samples. There was a lot of food festivals where I used to live..not sure about here. Will have to investigate. Now I want cin rolls:).
I bought a fur collar vintage coat just from watching that show. The clothes are fab!
Sorry for taking up space, but I couldn’t resist sharing this “Signature Scent” ad…😂
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Chu2XoNpfr8/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Has anyone seen a Broadway Barbara show? Sounds like it could be fab.u.lous
I had never heard of her before I came across this little “signature scent” blurb, but then I’m very much out of the loop…
That’s hilarious! You’ve all probably seen this one with the Scottish Labradors Olive and Mabel….
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bgn_3eHP-g
Oh, that’s adorable! I’ve never seen that before, thanks for posting!
You’re welcome! There’s a bunch of videos online of these two with their ‘Dad’ BBC sports commentator Andrew Cotter. He began filming them in various parodies of his broadcasts when the pandemic started. Very funny!
I am in the totally frivolous and pineapple-forward Angel Iced Star. With September nearly here, I have to get going on an embroidered snowflake piece for the front door of the condo. I want to put it up for Christmas but it won’t be done unless I start now!
Have a good weekend, everyone!
That is just about the speed of my needlework projects, and stitching magazines are coming out with holiday issues now, so there’s a lot of us…
Happy weekend everyone!
SOTD!
Wick Vanille de la Terre…aaaaand thunk.Maybe I’ll get a fb of this sometime in the future,it’s really good.
I’ve been wearing a lot of Iris,Vanilla,Amber and Vetiver this past Winter,it’s been so random apart from participating in the Fri projects.
Worrying reports of “False Autumn” up North, esp in the UK.The soaring temps and climate change is wreaking havoc it seems, squirrels will run out of winter food because of earlier-than-usual ripening of berries and nuts…it’s all so worrying.Temps tomorrow at a high of 28° C,so odd for this time of year in SA.I tend to get extremely anxious about the world when I read about things like this.
Another article that was published locally was about the amount of waste accumulated from discarded perfume bottles, and the huge recycling effort that is being done to stop the rapid retraction of our beaches(perfume bottles and glass are mostly made of beach sand, who knew?)…Scary, and makes me want to investigate the idea of sustainability and less pollution within my own perfume collection
XO’s
I totally get you. I’ve had this deep, mostly unacknowledged and/or repressed dread about the state of world for a very long time. Sounds crazy, but it was one of the many reasons I never wanted children. I think researching ways we can make a difference on an individual level is the only thing in our control and essential to keeping a sane head on our shoulders. Good luck!
It seems like nearly every new mainstream perfume now is refillable, but they all seem to get refilled by glass bottles so it doesn’t seem any environmental improvement.
Feeling enough energy today to go lounge at the local pool and soak up as much summer as I can before Fall craziness/cold starts…scent of summer 2022 is definitely Eau Premiere. Wore it for five weeks straight while abroad and it fit every single occasion
Chanel never fails
We’re having one of those August relapses back to winter, it doesn’t feel at all like the approaching spring today. I’ll have to think about something warming for today’s walk, maybe Tobacco Vanille.
Aw, sorry Gaynor! We are having relapsing high temps too, but I guess that’s preferable.
Popping in to say a quick hello! Having a wonderful day, not a single appointment so treated myself out for lunch and a walk in the delightfully cooler weather. Have gone on a bit of a perfume bender this week, a need for retail therapy + bonus time! L’Envol, Fat Electrician, Bitter Peach plus a friend muling Sballo back from Italy. Today I’m wearing Acampora Musc since getting the details together for my friend made me remember my neglected little flask of it.
How fun, enjoy it all!
You’ve got some excellent choices there!
SOTD is Paris-Deauville. My Scent of Summer ‘22 may have to be EL Tuberose-Gardenia, not because I’ve worn it often, but because I’ve enjoyed it so much the few times I have worn it.
We are having a Zoom happy hour with friends on the other side of the continent later this evening, and having brunch (in person) tomorrow with one of my former students and her mom. Right now I am about to go do my weight training routine for the first time since December — wish me luck! (I will be working out at home, but maybe I’ll be ready to return to the Y at some point — haven’t been there since February 2020 when I noticed too many people not wiping down the equipment, while so many were coming down with “the flu.”)
Tuberose-Gardenia is lovely! You’ve been having a good Summer with that alongside IMHO.
Very good luck with the weights!!
I am thinking of going back to the Y in September myself.
Getting a buzz from Zoologist Bee today! I have the lovely 10ml travel spray, and I am so in agreement that all brands should offer these smaller sizes with lovely presentations. I almost love Bee, but I don’t think I’ll need a full bottle. On my perfume-eating skin, it has given me an all-day scent bubble, albeit one that is closed to my skin. I’m getting a bit of Bois de Vanille vibes; it is a woody, wild flower honey and that makes me smile. Curious: speaking of M. Lutens, are there any Miel de Bois fans that have smelled this and see something similar? Do tell, and if you know, is your MdB version the current one? Off to read comments.
For me, Miel has it’s own thing going on and haven’t really smelled something very similar.
Lalique Lalique which smells like a drug store type Samsara and not mad about it:). Love those 90s florientals. Which scent will remind me of 2022? Kinda was the summer of the rose no? The Chanel rose didn’t work for me and hoped it would. I think I prefer cleaner rose scents. Not clean as in white musk though lol. Beverage OTD, Peppermint tea Celestial Seasonings. Thinking this would be good iced as well. I sold a couple of t shirts I designed so that is cool. I netted about 10 bucks total. But hey that’s dinner baby lol.
Yikes 106 today 🌞
Yay for selling your designs – *waves you onto a victory lap.*
Thank ya:)
Congrats on selling those T-shirts!
SOTD = Hotel Costes Costes EDT
… from my FB, which means allo gets an enabler’s pin! Ever since I got a decant from her spilt, I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I had Costes body products muled. And then I keep thinking and thinking about it so I bit and got a bottle from LuckyScent.

In other news:
– yesterday I was lamenting about not being able to find cases of Sound Blood Orange Vanilla Black Tea anywhere. Guess what? I found them at Home Goods – on clearance! I usually walk through the store to take pictures and pick up (infrequently) some odds and ends. My eyes popped when I saw 8-packs for $6!!! 👀. There were 4 of them but one had a ratty looking box so I ended up getting 3. Imagine … and I was willing to pay $1.86 for each can … VICTORY!
– not today but the last time I was there, someone tried to return an area rug. Not sure if she had a receipt but regardless. I was wondering why the manager was taking up precious space up front to unroll the carpet and sure enough, there was a huge stain which one cannot have missed when bought from the store! If I could have safely applauded, I would have – not the manager’s first rodeo … and probably also not the returner’s first attempt at returning stuff and invoking the damaged goods excuse – foiled!
– semi-good news — my tv is finally “working”. The colors are weird right now but I’ll take it. I will continue to pursue a resolution with resorting to buying a new tv.
Love good tea deals. I usually fine some general tea deals at Ross. One line I like and I never see a deal on is Buddha Teas.
Good about the tv..remember when one could just smack it or kick it and voila! Fixed. Technicolor restored
You made my day! To be the enabler of all enablers….I’m speechless!
And btw, you smell amazing 🙂
P.S. Springpansy enabled me to get the Costes body lotion – it takes a village!
Clarification: To be the enabler TO the Enabler of all enablers. Just wanted to be clear where I stand in the enabler hierarchy 🙂
😂
I am laughing about the idea of an Enabler’s Flow Chart!
Love it!
SOTD Neroli Portofino
For the farmers market this morning and beyond.
Excited to watch the last season of See on Apple TV. Fall is my favorite season so I am welcoming the change. I wonder if my body senses it. I have been so hungry lately. This happens usually when the season change but its still very much summer here so I am not sure that is an excuse to stuff my face.
I am thinking of picking up Apple TV soon so I will have to find out what See is!
I’ve been wearing Climat today, and I think I need more of it. Hey, I’ve already fallen off the no-buy wagon this week, so why not go big? I’m dreading the coming week at work — it will be my last week before an extended leave, and my boss has been very weird about that. I think she has realized that I actually do most of her job, and now she’ll have to do it, but she’s only been in her position for a year and I’ve been in mine for 18. I’ve tried so hard to create a tidy coverage plan for my small team, and she keeps countermanding everything, which just causes upset and confusion. Ugh. One week from now, I’ll be on a much-needed leave for three months. Can’t wait. Wish me luck!
Oooooof. Best of luck in making it thru the next week!
Thanks! I think I’ll wear Chanel No. 19 every day, for strength.
Wishing you luck and hoping the light at the end of the tunnel (3 months sounds glorious!) and No. 19 help you make to through the week.
Thanks!
Sometimes the worst thing about work is co-workers…🙄
So true!
Good luck this week. I hope it passes smoothly
Thanks! My husband reminded me tonight to expect weirdness and keep expectations low for any humane interactions, lol.
Very good luck, and how lovely to get 3 months leave!
Thanks! I have huge amounts of accrued leave because I’ve worked fulltime through things like radiation treatment and a broken shoulder without taking time off other than, for instance, the day of surgery and one day after. My doctor made me promise not to do that any more! I love her.
I am trying to find perfumes made in Armenia and I came across voskanian Pêche Cypree.
I really loved it, smells of ripe peaches in the opening. Anyone familiar with this perfume?
Not I, but sounds interesting.
Wanted to feel classy and wearing RC Chanel. This is just ultra class. I did like 15 sprays ..oopps. draining this decant like no other. Beverage of the day..chocolate malt from sbux. So good. Going to church and I stop and look at the cats in the windows that are hanging out in the open boarding place(no cages) right by it. They have little and some fat cat figurines outside, so cute. I keep hearing about these cat cafes in Cali..I wanna check one out sometime.
We have a cat cafe in our town in PA too!
Quick psa…
Ulta has Philosophy Amazing Grace edt and Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere half off today. It’s the start of their 21 days of beauty. There are other make up specials too.
Hi Lillyjo. I missed your posts last week but I hope the court meeting went well for you.
It did thank you!
I just got the official paperwork in the mail. It is so strange though that it says things like I can’t take my daughter out of state without a court order. ( we will probably never go out of state, but still..)
Byredo Blanche for a sunny Sunday!
I’ve been kinda under the weather mentally,I think this year was a cognitive challenge so far.More than “that year”.
I could have sworn I smelled heliotrope in Blanche for a second, but it’s not listed.Aldehydic rose with violet and some musk. It’s “nice”.
XO’s
Sending you a big hug JB. I hope life takes a turn for the better soon.
🌹Thanks Kanuka!
Hugs to you!
Just my 2 cents but you were in a serious accident and it is very understandable that you would be having some mental challenges. Keep taking care of yourself.
Thanks.my friend!✌🏻🤗🌹
ITA with lillyjo. A traumatic event like that is going to take a lot out of a person. Be gentle with yourself.
🌹🤗
Sorry you’ve been feeling less than chipper, JB. Agree with everyone else, it makes sense. Stay strong, you are loved!
Thank you R!🌹🤗
Another beautiful morning here on the coast! Got up late again after going to bed before dark.
I’m following Omega’s lead by wanting to feel classy, so I’m wearing Chanel Box of Eels for the win. Negating the classy vibe by wearing my EVA Birkenstocks (purple and coral swirl) and tie-dyed camo maxi. My middle name is “style.” 😬
Found the mother lode of blackberries yesterday while ambling about, so I’m going back today with a bag to collect the ripe ones! Happy Sunday to all! (Or Monday if you’re already there)
Total class, looking good!
Yay for blackberry-haul!
Spring is creeping so slowly and the shift in seasons seems stalled. But the yellow blooming plants: gorse, broom, mimosa, kowhai, daffodils offer a hint of colour though the magnolias are lagging behind. The early blossom ( flowering cherry) has opened. The very first leaves on the maple are just unfurling but most of the trees are still very stark. Every spring a pair of ducks turn up ( grey ducks) at the end of the road and they arrived on Saturday, which must be a sign. I caught a glimpse of a skink in the garden, sunning itself on a rock.
It’s early morning and the stars are twinkling, Orion and Saturn brightly. Wearing Pomegranate Noir, a good introduction to pomegranate ( I just made that up, I have no idea if it is or isn’t). Monday , washing day. Have a good week!
Happy Monday!
20:09 Sunday eve here.
I dunjo why the difference in timezones fascinate me so much!
Haha!Xo’s
You are not alone! I also check out sunrise and sunset times. Even in a small place like NZ there are 45 minutes variations in sunrise/ set.
Just putting out feelers… I’ve been off the perfume internet for some years. (Nice to see some familiar and unfamiliar names!) My totally unformed idea is to host an outdoor in-person perfume giveaway in NYC over the weekend formerly known as Columbus Day. Any experience trying to put something like that together?
Good to “see” you!!😉🌹
Hi stranger! I remember when you were a regular here. Where in NYC?
I was thinking Central Park bur I’m open to suggestions!
Oh my gosh! Last week I was looking through old nst posts and saw your name. I was hoping you were well. So good to see you!
I don’t have any experience but would like to do something similar someday. You’d probably want chairs, a shaded table area for the fragrances, plus strips for people to test the fragrance (if allowed) and some beverages even if just ice water with lime. Will invitees contribute bottles they no longer want? I love the idea! Unfortunately, I am all the way across the country or we could co-host.
Great suggestions, thank you!
Wow, long time! Nice to see you.
That’s not til October, right? So you’ve got lots of time to plan and to round up participants 🙂
Yes Oct 8-10
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Lovely to hear from you! I was just thinking of you the other day. I often wonder about people who no longer post…
Your idea about a meet-up/giveaway in NYC sounds wonderful. If you’d like some more suggestions or help, please let us know.
I hope you and yours are doing well!
Calyx
This was my summer go to for years and I thunked ten bottles. Stopped wearing it in 96. Glad to have it back in my collection. Now all I need for decade 70s is Cristalle EDT….
Guessing that will be harder to find than Calyx, unfortunately.
I stayed on my Italian theme this weekend by sampling Ytzma from Royal Crown today and Ligea “La Sirena” from Carthusia yesterday.
Today I went to one of the last art shows of the summer season– the Affordable Arts Festival where everything is $100 or less and we got a small wood carved sculpture, a picture that is essentially a yarn collage, and a huge painting (48×60) which was probably originally priced around 3 or 4 thousand, based on comparable pieces when I saw the artist at an art festival last month. People line up hours early to get good deals–we were there about 20 min before the gates opened, so we got to the selling area about 15 min after it opened and there were a couple of booths that were already cleaned out. I could have spent more but, you know, I have to have fun money for Italian perfumes!
A quick post & run here.
As a guess I’d say that my Summer of 2022 scent would be either Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser Gold EdT, or Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore EdC.
Not wearing either of them today, though.
SOSunday = Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li EdT, from the sample stash. I like it for about 30 seconds, then it becomes blindingly clean on me. This one is going into the “Give” pile.
SOSaturday = Alaia EdP, in the dark bottle. This one is at its best in hot sticky summer weather. Pretty soon, it will go back into bottle storage.
I love Alaia! Must pull mine out. I wore Un Jardin Sur le Nil today myself, it was perfect!
I’m in Azemour les Oranges today. It and other citrus scents have been my regular go-tos this hot summer. O de Lancôme has gotten a lot of wear too, and Diorella and Paris-Deauville.
Yesterday I wore Lalibela in tribute to a friend who just died. It’s got complexity and is still comforting with incense, roses, coconut, labdanum. She had cancer and her death was expected; she wrote frankly about it and planned every detail. I admired that very much. She didn’t want religion or sadness. Since she loved food I’m planning a little feast just for myself in her honor (she lived elsewhere).
Today I saw my mother. She look led nice and seemed pretty good, but she has now begun to eat with her fingers and not silverware. I find it very difficult. She was always prim and proper. On the other hand, it’s good that she’s eating, because for awhile she wasn’t.
Sorry if this post is a downer. It’s challenging to grow old or rather to deal with aging and mortality.
Calypso I am very sorry for the loss of your friend. I have been wondering how your Mother has been doing. It is good she is eating. Hugs to you.
Thank you.
What a tough week, I’m so sorry Calypso.
But despite the method, yes, it’s really good your mom is eating!
and p.s. please never worry about a post being a downer, really. We are all up and down, right?
