Happy Mother's Day weekend! We're honoring mothers everywhere with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the perfume your mother wore, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Started Mother’s Day weekend with some flowers from the kids. Such a sweet surprise
And Joe Malone Mimosa and cardamom today
I think that’s my favorite Joe Malone. You smell pretty.
Thank you!
So far the weather is not great for mothers day weekend but what can you do. Stay in your pjs and cuddle with the kids for me
That is very sweet, and a day early 🙂
My mom and I both used to be serial monogamists, perfume-wise. She had decades when her signature scent was Bal a Versailles, L’Air du Temps and Coco, and now she wears Gucci EDP (or “Gucci Brown” as she calls it) almost exclusively. I think she’s a bit envious of the variety of perfumes I wear, and she has tried many of them, but she nearly always likes how they smell on me better than on her. The Gucci, and YSL Cinema, are the sole exceptions.
Anyway, after a truly horrible night (shingles vaccine side-effects) I’m feeling better this morning, and wearing Champaca as a special treat.
Sorry about the shingles side effects…I had that too, but it didn’t last long. Lots of body aches. Champaca is beautiful.
I’m glad to hear you feel better. You smell great.
I’m sorry you had a tough time with the vaccine; I did too. Luckily once the two jabs are done, you’re protected for the duration!
You smell fantastic and glad you are better!
Yeah, that vaccination HURT. At least the pharmacist warned me that I’d have flu-like (err, COVID-like) side effects. But much better than having to endure shingles itself, according to my friends who have had it. Still…I hope the side-effects disappear quickly for you.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better! Also, good to know that the singles vax is potentially unpleasant.
Oh my goodness, SheriG, it’s been a long time since I’ve been aware of anyone mentioning Bal a Versailles, so thank you for that. I wore it in my 20s (many moons ago!) & can’t remember how I came across it, although I do remember a trip to France with my late parents when I bought a small round bottle of the perfume (as opposed to the edt or edp I had previously worn). No idea where I would find it these days in an actual shop, especially in my part of the world (north east Scotland). Sorry to hear about your vaccine side effects (my husband was really unwell after both his Covid jabs) & hope you’re feeling better.
Sorry about the shingles vaccine side effects. My partner had a really rough time with it too. We have a friend who had an absolutely horrific shingles case, so even though the vaccine is awful, it’s worth it!
Thanks everybody! I slept amazingly well last night and feel so much better today — severe arm soreness all but gone. It was the second shot of this inoculation so thank heavens I don’t have to do THAT again! Aside from the really painful injection site, it was pretty much as skalolazka’s pharmacist warned — chills, body aches, a monster headache … but still way better than a case of shingles would be, from what I hear.
Carolyn, it looks like The Perfumed Court (no affiliation) has samples/decants of vintage Bal a Versailles EDT in stock (not too expensively) and they ship internationally (somewhat more expensively) — might be worth checking out … especially if there’s a chance someone from the U.S. could be induced to mule it to you. 🙂 Their description of the vintage scent makes ME want to try it!
My mom’s signature fragrance was Opium. She had a small bottle she treasured and took a deep whiff every morning, but only wore it on special occasions. She had health problems and wasn’t able to travel much, so she called it her “vacation in a bottle” .
I don’t have a bottle of my own, so I’ll wear the closest thing in my collection (Nanadebary) tomorrow and think of her. I miss you, Mom.
That’s a really sweet memory. Hugs to you.
Hugs to you.💙
Hugs!
That is very, very sweet.
Hugs. Opium is my aunt’s signature scent too.
I love the pic today. I am always amazed by those still life paintings that are so realistic you swear you can smell the flowers or that you could pick some of the fruit right out of the canvas and eat it.
I am wearing PPC Lemon Liada. I wanted something bright and cheerful. The past couple of weeks have been stressful. The extremely wonderful news is that my husband does NOT have a tumor on his kidney after all, or for that matter, anywhere else that they could see. The waiting and uncertainty were agonizing, but we are both more relieved than I can say at the results of the scan.
The funny thing is that it almost seems as if we were given a trade-off–one of our cars for a clean bill of health. Before anybody even asks–I would a billion times over rather have one of our cars bite the dust than have something happen to him. As he was calling me to tell me the test results, he noticed that his car was overheating. We took it into the shop, and it turns out that it has at least two separate issues. Both are repairable, but the total cost for the repairs (~$2000) is more than the current value of the car (a 2007 Hyundai Sonata with 212,000 miles). I think if it knew for certain that it would run OK for another couple of years, I would repair it, but in the back of my mind is the thought that it might just be the beginning of a series of mechanical failures and that I would just be throwing money away.
So glad that everything is okay after the scan. The waiting is the worst, but at least it was a good outcome in the end.
Great news for you and your husband.
Hooray for your husband’s health! Sorry about the cars.
Very glad to hear your husband is okay! My experience with car issues is that most things are fixable for a while, at least … but if the problem is electrical, it’s time to give it up.
No, it’s not exactly electrical. It sort of it–it has developed oil leaks, and one of them has leaked onto the alternator. It is still working for the time being, but they tell me that we can expect the alternator to eventually go out from the oil. It also needs a new thermostat and radiator hoses. All of those things are repairable, and if I could be sure that nothing else would go out for at least a year or two, I might go ahead and fix it all. The thing is, this is our spare car–we have two others, both of them somewhat newer and in better overall shape. It’s nice having a spare, but I don’t know if I want to put $2000 into it. I’m afraid if I do that, something else really expensive will break soon afterward, like the transmission. The last time I had a transmission rebuilt, it was over $3000.
I’m so happy to hear your husband is OK!!
Happy at the great outcome for your husband.
Congrats on the good news about your husband’s health!
Yay for Mr. 50_Roses!!
Boo on the car!
(I want that new Hyundai Ioniq 5 and keep hoping my car will die and I’ll suddenly have enough money for it, ha.)
Good luck finding one for sale. I want a new Elantra, preferably in red. I think the current body style is just about the coolest looking thing I have ever seen.
I have a red Elantra!
I drove it up pacific coast highway today with the roof open.
Is yours the current body style (2021 or 2022 model)? I freaking love that design, and I badly want one. There was a red one among the 9 that were listed on the local Hyundai dealer’s website recently, but it was one of the 8 that had already been spoken for. Had it NOT had a deposit down on it already, I would be driving that car now.
Nope not new. 8 years old? Will get a Kona next.
I have an 8 year old Elantra as well–a 2014 in black. That generation (2011 to 2015, I think?) was really sharp looking as well. If I can’t get a new one in red, I would take another 2014 or thereabouts. Used car prices are outrageous right now, though, so it is almost not worth buying them except that there are hardly any new cars to buy.
Yeah, getting one is the next step in the daydream.
I’m so happy that your husband is okay!
About the car dilemma, just know that it’s like the wild west out there right now. We have been looking for a new car for six months and it’s hard to get what you want without going over MSRP
Actually it’s hard to get a car at all right now. Just a few weeks ago I was all ready to buy a new car. I had the money, and the very thing I wanted was listed on the dealer’s site. Turns out that all the cars on the site were not actually on the premises– they were in transit, and 8 or the 9 of the model I wanted had deposits down on them already. The one that was not yet spoken for was a higher trim line, about $4000 more for stuff I don’t particularly care about. I didn’t buy it, and used the money instead to pay down some debts.
I’m glad your husband is ok!
So happy for your husband’s extremely wonderful news!! And good luck with the car. 🎲
I realize the car isn’t all that important compared to my husband’s well being. I’ll take a healthy husband and a sick car over the other way around a billion times over.
Of course you would! ❤️
What great health news; I am so happy for you both! Huzzah!
That is great about your husband. A reason to celebrate 🎉
Excellent news about your husband!
50_Roses, that is just SUCH GOOD NEWS! What a relief.
My mother wore one perfume and one perfume only, L’Air du Temps, only on Sundays for church and when they went out. My dad would buy her a bottle of the real perfume about every 2 years. When she passed away I asked my dad if I could have the bottle with the remaining perfume. I only wear a drop each year on my moms birthday and it’s almost all gone, but the scent will linger even after the juice disappears.
My dad does the same thing. He buys my mom a bottle of Chanel no. 5 parfum every other year for Christmas.
That is sweet!
I have a dear friend who lost her mom young. I gave her away at her wedding. She has one small bottle of aromatics elixir and we sprayed some on her blue silk hankie tucked in her bouquet.
How sweet! L’Air du Temps was my mom’s favorite too.
My mom didn’t get a chance to wear many perfumes in her short life, and didn’t wear it daily, but when she got dressed up to go out, she wore Halston. I recently bought a large decant of vintage Halston, just to have it. (I had a small sample bottle I bought on *bay a while back.)
Apparently my Mother’s Day gift is some early season peonies (or maybe it’s my spouse’s day gift…). I arrived home yesterday just as my spouse and kid were getting back, and the kid said, “NOOO! You can’t look!” So I turned my back and then she came and handed me peonies, saying “Well, I didn’t buy them, but I’m handing them to you, so happy Mother’s Day! I think Dad said they’re you’re favourite.” Yep, happy Mother’s Day to me! 🙂 This is about how it always goes with the kid.
What a lovely gift 🙂 Peonies are my favorite, too!
Peonies are so beautiful. One of my neighbors has a patch that are gloriously blooming right now.
We saw some glorious, deep-purple-red peonies on our walk this evening. So pretty. I would have had peonies in my wedding bouquets if they’d been in season, but the wedding was about two months early for them.
It’s been ages and ages since I’ve seen peonies in bloom.
I made sure my mom was well supplied with scents — bottles, minis, samples — and she did wear them, but she always had a signature scent, and it was always something on the dark side. She wore Jolie Madame de Balmain for decades, then when that got reformulated Into irrelevance she fell in love with Dior Addict, and then when *that* was ruined she discovered Lancôme Hypnôse.
Today I’m wearing Guerlain Herba Freaca, which doesn’t last very long but is so much lighthearted fun while it does.
Herba Fresca was my signature scent for about 5 years in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I hope you feel as optimistic (and naive) as 20 year old me did. You smell so darn good.
Ohh, I love the “on the dark side.” Sounds like it could be an excellent CP someday. 👍🏼
Ooh yes! Call it “Dark Side of Perfume” and sing it like it’s Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.
Oh, I love that idea!
Love it!👍🎶
I will have to dig out my bottle of Lancome Hypnose and give it a sniff! I don’t recall it being particularly dark. Very intrigued to hear it described as such.
My mom didn’t really have a signature. I remember a small bottle of Emeraude when I was little. I also remember Estee and Private Collection. When she sold Avon, it was Bird of Paradise, which I also love (no lasting power, unfortunately). I gave her a bottle of either Odalisque or Number One. And then a bottle of Bulgari Femme, which she wore frequently until she passed away.
I’m going for Tangy Rhubarb today. To celebrate our (relatively) warm weather and sunshine.
My mother loved Estée Lauder too.
My mother too.
Commando today, as I’m on a flight to the east coast. First I’ll go to DC to see my mother for Mother’s Day, and then I’ll hop up to Boston for my father-in-law’s memorial service. This will be a difficult week, likely made worse by the fact that I’ll need to keep working on a grant proposal during my leave 🙁
On another note (as if I didn’t have enough going on right now)…we might make an offer on a house! It’s about a mile away from our current house, right by downtown. It’s got 1.6x the square footage (room for my baby grand piano!), 10 % more land, and oodles of charm. Sadly, it’s also a bajillion dollars (gotta hate that Bay Area real estate market), made worse by the higher interest rates. I’ve already decided I want the house; we’ll see what my husband decides. Cross your fingers!
I’m sorry you have a rough week ahead. Good luck with the house!!
Safe travels, and good luck with the house decision.
Fingers crossed Koyel!
Good luck, Koyel!
Wow, that is quite the week you have on your schedule. Good luck with everything! 🌈🍀
A bit of land is very important to me – flowers, fresh tomatoes – so here’s hoping, now or later, the Koyels find that perfect house!
Wow, that is a lot on your plate. Good luck with all of it!
Good luck with all that!
Thank you, everyone! Our offer was accepted!!!! Goodbye, all our money for the next forever.
Wow! Congrats!
Thanks <3
SOTD is IA Fox in the Flowerbed.
My mother wore Youth Dew and then when she was older liked Ralph Lauren Romance. This is my second year without her and I miss her dearly. She was such a classy lady.
I received beautiful flowers from my stepchildren and grandkids for Mother’s Day this year. Just love them!
Hugs.
Fox in the Flowerbed keeps moving up on my test list based on how many people here are wearing it.
It’s a good one. You won’t be disappointed if you are a jasmine fan.
I’m sorry you are missing your mom.
Mine is gone five years now. I feel her and my dad all around me.
Thanks. I have wonderful memories.
Hugs to you Kris.
Thanks, Jalepeno.
You inspired me to go for Fox in the Flowerbed. Hope you’re having good memories of your mom today.
Happy Mom’s Day to all the moms out there! What a hard job it is, too 😅
I’m including moms of four legged kids in this salutation as well! The things we do for our children, both two legged and four legged!
My very complicated mom went on to her great reward many moons ago, but had good perfume sense in that she was a big fan of Opium back in the day. I remember buying it for her in every iteration: perfume, powder, lotion, and whatever other form it came in for birthdays and holidays.
My own four legged kid has given me nothing other than the tap, tap, tap on the shoulder to remind me it’s past her brekkie time. 🙄

SOTD is Bengale Rouge, and after all this time I’m still loving it immensely 😍
You smell lovely
Well, it’s part of her job to keep you on schedule, Deva! I haven’t smelled Bengali Rouge, but I bet you are wafting beautifully.
Happy Mother’s Day in advance to all you moms – I salute and marvel at your strength and patience.
Today I bought some plants to attract pollinators and potted them around our raised bed vegetable gardens. Man, I love garden centers. Such a zen, happy place. My SOTD is Las Flores from Provision Scent.
There’s a plant nursery north of where I am that has every herb you can imagine. I love smelling all the smells there. I think it’s time for a visit!
Enjoy your weekend, sistine! 😊
Not a Mother’s Day yet here in Poland but it’s coming at the end of the month.
Today I’m in Diptyque Eau Capitale.

I always love your still life compositions, lucasai. Plus, you smell wonderful.
PdN L’eau Mixte for me today. Happy Mother’s Day to the moms out there!
Like many mothers mine wore No 5in extrait which my father bought for her, I have her last bottle but it got misplaced when I moved. Otherwise I remember a bottle of Cabochard which she purchased herself and some Yves Rocher light scents like Chèvrefeuille or Eglantine.
I spent the day in Y which I hadn’t worn in what seems like forever and for scent of the evening I am testing on paper some I Profumi di Firenze, Dolce Patchouli which I don’t care for, I prefer their Hayan, Viento di Eros which I like very much and La Vecchia Spezieria, also a winner, they’re both florals, the former spicy and the latter nutty.
Ouch, I hope you’re able to find that bottle after all the dust settles. Enjoy your perfume sampling!
Thank you Deva, it is somewhere in some boxes… Still unopened after five years 😃
My mom has alot of perfumes, but that’s more of a cultural default then a deliberate interest. The best smelling fragrance on her is the one of the Britney Spears one, strangely enough.
I’m in a new love, thanks to swap meet – Habit Rouge! Wowza, I love it. I’m wearing the EDP which is a bit much for warmer weather though. I think the EdT might work better. If you have opinions, please share!
What a nice discovery.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the women out there who are mothers. Not just mothers to biological children as we generate life but we nurture in different ways.
My love of perfume came from my grandmother. My mom wears perfume because of me and I love shopping with her to choose perfume.
And like many here, I remember she had a bottle of Opium when I was a child.
Have a great day!
This is true…I am possibly a better plant mom than human mom 🙂
My mom wears Coco, and I would happily honor her by wearing it if I had any; she always smells great.
Selfishly, I’m really enjoying being “the mom” this year since my kindergartner came home yesterday with various hilarious forms he had filled out about me and three pictures or projects he had made. He is so sweet and proud. I’m trying to soak up these years.
I’m wearing California Reverie, which is sick irony for today’s Rainy Cold Pennsylvania.
My mom loved Coco, too. She definitely planted the seed for my love of fragrances (and tastes).
Indeed PA had crappy weather this weekend!
You are right to soak up these years…it goes so quickly.
Oh, I miss those years. Enjoy them!
Today’s photo reminds me of the cap on the vintage Fleurs de Rocaille parfum bottle.
In Vol de Nuit parfum today, which always just right.
You smell divine! I might just copy you tomorrow. 🙂
I wore it again, so we were twins on Sunday!
Started the day in Prada Infusion d’Iris (and am relieved that I liked it, after not enjoying it at all last time I wore it) for lunch with friends (yay! we have friends who invite us to lunch in their garden; boo! now that we have friends, we are leaving to return to the US), then really truly thunked my travel decant of Hiris to go to a theater festival performance (feminist trapeze artist). It was unusually warm today in Galway — high of 19 (or 66, pick your scale), and not a drop of rain. The last group of my students flew home this morning, one colleague left yesterday, and the other will leave tomorrow — so it’s just me and Mr. Skal for the next ten days, trying to balance enjoying the city with packing.
Oh, enjoy your last bit of time!!
Happy Mothers’ Day to this lovely group. It takes a village and amongst us are nurses, teachers, mentors, aunts, sisters.
I don’t know what quite came over me last week, perhaps one or more of you could help with symptoms?
It started with purchasing Chanel les eaux Paris – Paris the minute it went on the web site… and then moved to a purchase of Fenty and concluded with a travel size of Guerlain Mandarin Basilic.
Might it have anything to do with turning 69 this coming Monday? I don’t know….
Maybe it’s a 60’s thing- I am 63.
I recently bought several different perfumes in the last month and then turned around and bought two more yesterday from Jeffrey Dame as he is having a sale. Also, I am waiting on one from Imaginary Authors. I have gone crazy lately.
Well nuts! I wish I would have known about that Jeffrey Dame sale. I would have waited to order the samples that I did earlier in the week. 😖
He has 50% off some of his solifores. It’s a steal. Go for it.
Soliflores are exactly what I did get, LOL! Or rather, what I am waiting to get.
OK. Now I am confused, which is nothing new. Did you get samples of the soliflores? The sale started a few weeks ago so the sale would have been on when you ordered. Oh, heck just go get the full bottles if you didn’t. I got the tuberose, but then decided to get Singularity too as that is a good price for the size.
As far as I could tell it’s a sale on certain soliflores and only certain sizes so maybe not samples.
Thanks to lillyjo for some clarity!
Kris, I did order some samples from Dame Perfumery but have not received them yet. I have enough bottles of perfume now that I am very reluctant to blind buy anything anymore.
If samples aren’t part of the sale, then I am fine with that.
Got it now. Duh me.
I really like Fenty.
Who knew?
It’s a good one. How is the bottle?
The bottle is beautiful
I still have a tad on my bathrobe this morning. It’s a compliment getter for sure
It’s an ageless phenomena — especially for those on NST!
Indeed!
I don’t think it particularly has to do with age. I am in my late 50’s, and I have done the same thing many times, with various things, not just perfume. For me, just recently, it has been shoes. I am not even really a big shoe person, but I have bought four new pairs in the past few weeks. Other times it has been perfume, or dresses, or watches, or whatever.
I tend to buy a bunch of something all at once, then don’t buy any for a long time, then buy a whole lot of it again. I try to enjoy what I have and ignore new releases/styles, but eventually something catches my attention, then I “need” it and buy it, then I notice other things and buy them, then I realize I have overdone it and stop for a while, then eventually I spot another intriguing new offering, and it starts all over again.
I think you are probably right. I do that too.
This is my first Mother’s Day without my Mom. It’s going to be a melancholy occasion, to say the least. 😢💔
My Mom didn’t really wear perfume. I remember her getting things from Avon when I was kindergarten-aged, but she stopped doing that when I got older, like age 10-ish. But there were bottles of Jean Nate splash hanging around the house until I finished high school or thereabouts. She did encourage me to sniff the things at the drugstore, and the local department stores. I went thru at least 3 bottles of Love’s Baby Soft back in junior high.
SOTD = back in Le Baiser du Dragon again today. The far drydown was soooo good yesterday that I decided I wanted a repeat.
Lol I was all about Love’s Baby Soft ( and NIN lol) in jr. high. Trent’s Hurt is better, sorry to disagree. Haha. Love’s was probably my precursor gateway scent. Lol. The dry down of Dragon is amazing. Alberto is a great nose. I was chatting with Franck Salzwedel via email once about his line, that I really liked a couple of his scents, etc. He communicated with me awesomely and it’s just neat to chat with a perfumer and also a perfumer who has worked with Alberto Morillas and other talents. Franck is sweet, thoughtful and awesome. I recommend anyone check out his Elisire line(no not associated lol) just outstanding customer service and experiences with this perfumer. Actually, one of his scents reminds me of a Baby Soft for grown ups..which I like wearing, Poudre Desir. But my favorites are Eau Papaguena and Ambre Nomade. It looks like he added a few to his line..probably time to order samples haha.
Hey, it would be boring if everyone liked the same music or perfume! I can respect that you enjoy the OG “Hurt” more than the remake. 😉👍
Gosh I am sorry, for whatever reason my eyes didn’t see the first part of your post. This happens when I read sometimes. I think I read things when I haven’t. Hugs and condolences. 🌹
No worries Omega! And thank you.
Gosh I am sorry, for whatever reason my eyes didn’t see the first part of your post. This happens when I read sometimes. I think I read things when I haven’t. Hugs and condolences. 🌹
I’m sorry Jalapeño
Firsts are sobering.
Thanks apsara.
Firsts are definitely sobering. I remember that the first Father’s Day without my Dad was a very sad one. He was only a couple years older than I am now when he passed away.
Hugs to you. This is the second Mother’s Day without my mom, so I know the feeling. I am sure you have fond memories of her. I know I do.
Thank you Kris. It’s been on my mind all week. You’ve probably had a similar experience?
I have noticed that some retailers are actually letting people opt out of Mother’s Day or Father’s Day offers this year. It’s an interesting (and probably overdue) development.
Yes, it is hard that first year. I was an only child and was very close to my mom. Luckily, last year we went to North Carolina and spent the week with my stepson’s family and the grandchildren. That helped me get through it. This year isn’t quite so bad, but certainly still think of my mom often. You will too.
Jalapeno, I’m so sorry that this holiday will bring your loss to mind again. Sending big hugs to you. ❤️
Thanks AnnE.
Jalapeno I know it’s rough and I am thinking of you. ⚘💙
Thank you lillyjo. I am feeling unmoored, and definitely missing my Mom.
Sending hugs to you. I have two friends that have lost their moms this last year and it’s been a very hard process.
I hope you treat yourself to something nice (which I think you have, sampling JD ; )
Thank you Gabriela. All the hugs are very much appreciated!
Hope you are getting through the day. The first is hard — and your post reminds me to reach out to some IRL friends who are also facing the day without their moms for the first time. Take good care.
Thanks skalolazka.
You’re a peach for reaching out to your friends today.
Sending hugs, in time the Good moments spent together will dominate.
Thank you Aurora. I take some comfort that she had relatively few health issues for most of her life.
It doesn’t get easier, jalapeño. Hugs. This is my 3rd without Mom. Our last celebration with her was Mother’s Day 2019.
I agree it doesn’t get easier (unfortunately)
A hug to you hajusuuri 💙
Hugs to you hajusuuri.
I used to call my Mom just to talk about silly stuff. Like I would tease her about the weather a lot. Especially if the weather where she was at made the national news. And she would “worry call” me if something out here was on the news. I miss sharing things with her a lot.
Thanks. My mom was obsessed with the weather. Every few days, I read off the low, high temps and whether it will be sunny, cloudy or rainy/snowy.
Big hugs to you.
Thanks cazaubon.
Adding to the pile of hugs, Jalapeno!
Thank you tulipani!
Enjoying a tall, pink lemonade for this 94f day. Lol. Wearing Lalique Lalique which reminds me of the classic, 90’s floriental and I totally dig it. Grateful for my a.c. and my ice maker haha.
I am about 50 degrees cooler than you are right now! Cold and wet here. 🥶
My mom’s signature scent was Tabu. But my favorite Tabu memory is that my macho dad would dab it on before going to his construction job. He taught us not to care about gender labels in fragrance. If it smells good it smells good!
Bravo to your Dad for wearing what he liked!
Your dad sounds awesome.
My mom wore Perfumers Workshop Tea Rose quite often. I still have her bottle – pull it out to sniff from time to time but would never wear it. Today I’m wearing Synthetic Jungle decant from my swap with MossyBerry. I had been wanting to try it but am trying not to spend any $ on perfume. The green goes with the grass, trees and plants which have all benefited from a week of rain!
Tea Rose is a lovely scent to relate to mothers. Today we are going to a rose garden here in Barcelona. They have a rose competition every May!
My mom cycles through a few perfumes (Shalimar, 4711, and Avon Imari) so I don’t think she has a set signature scent. She did claim both bottles of Galimard edt I brought back from Grasse (Cybèle and Lapis Lazuli) when I was distributing souvenirs, lol. She also had me hunt down a bottle of Shiseido Murasaki when I went to visit relatives in Japan. She said she is no longer collecting perfumes as she has enough to work thru in her collection. I got her an orchid for Mother’s day instead as she grows a variety of them.
My SotD is MM Replica coffee break as it’s the closest thing I have in my collection that contains notes that my mom and my aunt (she wears Opium) both favor.
Happy mother’s day to all celebrating this weekend and hugs to all who may be having a difficult time.
Oooooooh, what kind of orchid did you get your Mom? I used to grow them (or try to) back in the early to mid 2000’s. Most of mine were Phalaenopsis orchids.
Cattleya… don’t remember the specific name but it was direct from the breeder on the big island.
Wow! Some of those smell so good! And never mind about the specific cultivar, “cattleya” is good enough for me.
Yes they do. She says her coconut orchids she got from her neighbor’s are in bloom as well as her yellow oncidium. She has a few that smell like coconut, vanilla or chocolate and one that smells like rootbeer and licorice, but most are what my brother says is old lady scent, lol.
We trimmed some mostly dead branches off our cherry tree yesterday so I have white blossoms in my vase that are lightly scented to enjoy.
Happy Mother’s Day to all! Still wafting Eau du Barn, and feeling like there are a hundred things I need to do for the kittens — get more toys, build them a cool cat tree, provide them with absolutely perfect nutrition — but without the corresponding energy to do them. I’m ordering feline-related items every other day off of Amazon or Chewy; no doubt all of the pop-up ads I see from here on out will be offers for pet products (does anybody else get weirded out by the electronic monitoring of every step we make online?).
To all of you moms out there, and to all of you folks who take care of others, kudos. I’m sending everybody a virtual bouquet of glorious peonies!
I’ve gotten some truly weird ads on my smart phone. I wish I got ads for cat stuff!
My phone can see, hear and sort through my thoughts…
It’s funny–my love of perfume started because of my mother, but not from my mother. My mother had quite a lot of perfume, particularly for the time in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It seems to me that most women at that time either had a signature scent or a small collection of at most 4 or 5 scents. My mother must have had at least 20 or so, but I don’t think she actually wore it much. She tended to save it for “special occasions” and only wore it when going out somewhere, not every day.
I remember Chanel no. 5, Arpege, My Sin, Blue Carnation, D’Orsay Divine, Blue Grass, some Avon stuff (Topaze and I’m not sure what else). There were others whose names I don’t recall. I loved to sniff them and compare. I remember thinking that no. 5 and Arpege smelled similar but different. No. 5 seemed cool while Arpege seemed warm. Probably my very favorite, though was the Blue Carnation. I have some vintage bottles I picked up on eBay, but they don’t smell the same as I remember. I’m not sure if they have changed or if my memory is at fault.
That is an amazing collection for the time, so it’s interesting she still only wore them on special occasions.
Happy Mother’s Day! 🌹🌹
My mother’s signature scent is Dana Tabu. The first bottle was a gift from my father on a Valentine’s day and after that she never wore anything else. She has several bottles that are vintage now. She used to get from us the body powder and lotion. Her perfume wearing was only for special occasions or when she was going out. These days due to her physical and mental condition she doesn’t go out much, except when she needs to go to her doctors appointments or visiting my youngest sister very few times a year for holidays. She will wear her perfume now only if she is in the mood for it.
My sisters are coming over later this afternoon with their families to have dinner together. It has been so far a rough day for my mom. She is in severe pain. I hope the afternoon is a bit better and she can enjoy their company.
I am planning to wear Tabu to honor her. I am sure she doesn’t want to wear anything today!
Happy Sunday! 🌹
Happy Sunday!
I hope your Mother can feel well enough to enjoy the company tonight.
Thank you, Lillyjo!
I hope your mom can get relief for her pain asap. Hugs!
Thank you, Cazaubon!
Happy mother’s day to your mom. I hope her pain eases soon!
Thank you, Tulipani!
Hope you can make it a good day.
I can tell you that I am giving you an enabler pin as I went back to the JD site and purchased the tuberose soliflore and Singularity since that was a good price too.
Thank you, Kris!
I am so glad you were able to take advantage of the Dame sale. The prices were unbeatable and the scents you bought are great!
Fingers crossed that your family get together is a pleasant one, and that your Mom’s pain slacks off. Chronic pain sucks.
Thank you, Jalapeno! It was a very nice, but short get together. We had dinner and after that everybody left to keep mom comfortable. She enjoyed having the family around.
Have a great get-together and I hope your mom’s pain is bearable.
Thank you, Hajusuuri! Pain killers helped her a bit. She had a pleasant time.
My mom wore L’Air du Temps, Bal à Versailles and sometimes Shalimar. She has lost her sense of smell due to Parkinson’s so doesn’t wear it any more.
I got a nice card from my dog this morning, we’re cuddling on the couch for a bit before I go out to work in the yard. Just a body spray for now, will shower later and put on Rose Chérie.
Too cute! At my store we were selling coffee mugs that celebrate Mom’s of 4 legged friends. They sold out fast!
Happy Mother’s day!
I consider myself lucky that the cats didn’t throw up a huge hairball for me to clean up for Mother’s Day!
My super wonderful boss gave all the Mother’s today off. I’m spending it with my daughter. My son is working. We went to sephora so I am currently wearing Kayali Sweet Pepper something… lol. I still like it.
My mom hated perfume more than her ex husband’s ( lol, I love you Mom!)
I gotta laugh so I don’t cry.
I think I am going to watch David Spades new Netflix special and make some white chicken chile. ( since hamburger has now become too fancy for this house)🌷🌞
That is so freaking cool your boss gave all the working Moms the day off! What a gem.
Laughed a little at your Mom-hating-perfume comment. It sounds like her aversion was legendary.
We are chili twins today, although mine did have hamburger in it. And lots of veggies, since that’s how I roll these days. (It’s also a way to stretch that meat a little further…)
Lot’s of veggies in mine too!
If anyone is interested David Spade and Dana Carvey have a great podcast about their SNL days called “Fly on the wall”. The weekly show has a guest who was a regular on the show and they chat about their experiences with other cast members and writers. I love listening when I’m working from home!
Yes! I have listened to it.
I love them both!
Downloading…
That’s so wonderful that your boss gave mothers a day off. So well deserved!
He is the best!
Happy mother’s day to all who mother!
It’s so nice to read about everyone’s mother’s fragrances. So many amazing signature scents. My mom’s most memorable perfumes to me were White Linen and Coco. I don’t think she was too picky and would wear what my father bought her from trips. She is very frugal and would only buy herself drugstore cheapies (I remember Ex’cla-ma’tion and Navy…. ah, such memories). Nowadays she rarely wears perfume, I think she’s become a bit self-conscious after hanging out with some scent-sensitive friends. 🙁
My only mother’s day request was to NOT make breakfast this morning! I was treated to an array of cute cards and a delicious chocolate croissant. Now I’m just looking forward to pottering around the house, and spending time with my family. We already took my mother in law out to dinner last night, so I have the day to myself.
Enjoy the day!
Yum to the chocolate croissant!
I’m liking your “Please, don’t make breakfast” request! 🤣 Enjoy the day to yourself.
