It's Hump Day, National Doctors Day and Pencil Day. Birthdays today: Francisco Goya, Vincent Willem van Gogh, Tracy Chapman. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: more community project points in Kerosene Black Vines.
Reminder: on 4/1 we'll celebrate April Fools Day...wear your most-fun-ever perfume. (This is a repeat from 2016.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

No CP points for me, but I did thunk another sample from a discovery set. This time it was Mad Madame. I think that in April I will switch to trying all (or as many as possible) of my discovery sets. I have many of them, most of them pretty untouched.
You should get some kind of points for spring cleaning, though. I did that last year, powered through my many years’ worth of samples and discovery sets. (What I discovered was that most of them weren’t for me. I had a JHAG set and didn’t really care for any of them.)
So far that is the main reason that many of my discovery sets are pretty untouched. I try one or two from the set, and don’t like them well enough to try the rest.
Typical early-spring day in Canada, cold but sunny, and my hands were dry so I anointed them with Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, which takes care of the dryness and doubles as a subtle beachy suntan-lotion scent.
Not in all of Canada. It is freezing rain and gross where I am.
It’s glorious where I am! š Sunny, high of 12, all the cherry trees are blossoming.
I had no idea that Van Gogh and Goya had the same bday. Both were great painters and sadly suffered in their own ways. And their paintings sometimes reflected those struggles in their lives.
Wearing Ambrette 9 Le Labo..I really enjoy this but it doesn’t last. Have to keep reapplying. Question: would you purchase a scent if you loved it but only lasted like 30 mins to an hour? Is there a lasting power length you require specifically before a purchase? I have bought several samples of Ambrette but on the fence if it is FBW. I definitely would love it gifted to me lolol.
I have a few citrusy scents which I’d expect to be fleeting, and a lot of Demeters which were pretty much designed to be brief snapshots, but on the whole, if something isn’t around in some form for at least six to eight hours, even as a close-to-the-skin scent, I think it’s cheaply made.
It can’t be that great a challenge to add some durable base notes, but one of the things you hear all the time is that modern scents don’t have any lasting power. Some of them do: I put on Atelier Cologne Vanille InsensĆ©e last night and could still smell it eight hours later. But a lot of them do seem to be very front-loaded, all the interest in the first half hour or so and then a quick exit.
Yeah there are perfumes that are top note centered and if they added certain base notes it would change the character of the scent or the scent completely at times. So what to do..just have a short lived scent I guess. But in some instances I agree..there could be some more durable base notes at times. With the ambrette..if anything was added to the base..it would likely change the scent’s character and what the perfumer was trying to present. But fleeting perfumes can be sometimes harder to justify a purchase. But sometimes I don’t mind reapplying if I really like it. The Ambrette is pretty fleeting to me and I have to reapply, a lot. I think it was meant to be a softer, more discreet type of scent idk.
I have purchased one scent knowing full well that it only lasts 30 to 40 minutes on me, and that is Chanel Eau de Cologne. I adore it.
That happens to me with Gourmand Coquin, and it makes me so sad because I love it! Itās still worth for me for instant gratification and feel good on spraying. I use it to relax in the evening and go to bed smelling something delicious.
Interesting for an hour, noticeable for another hour…that is usually enough for me. Something that is uninteresting after the top notes fade, no.
That one didnāt last long on me either. And at Le Labo prices, it would be a no go for meā¦but it sounds like you love it. What about no 18? I havenāt tried them side by side but I did get a lot of ambrette from no 18 and far better longevity.
Labdanum 18? I love that one, it’s my favorite from the line.
Oh, Iām sorry, I should have specified! I meant Chanel no 18.
But the LL 18 is good too.?
I forgot there was a Chanel 18 lol. I don’t remember ever sampling it. Might have to check it out:).
Chanel No.18 smelled BOish to me so no go.
Yikes. That would be a no go for me as well, right up there with cat pee.
I have way too many with zero lasting power, especially some of the naturals and botanicals.
28 La Pausa is probably the most significant “barely there” perfume in my collection, and I mean I paid $$$$$(!!) for a whisper. But what a gorgeous whisper.I love big sillage and beyond-excellent longevity, but I do enjoy the more quiet ones as well.
I have anosmia to several Chanel Exclusifs sadly. Cannot discern the notes and many have a common (faint and muddled) smell to me. Bel Respiro, 1932ā¦ I wish I could smell what others smell.
So, I have that issue with En Passant, which I love but it is so fleeting for me. When I finished my bottle I havered about purchasing another. I was saved by an NSTer who sent me a very generous decant that I still working through. I suspect I might have to buy another bottle when the decant is done.
On the other hand, today I am testing Malin + Goetz’s new Strawberry frag, which I absolutely love for the 10 minutes I can smell it after a very full dousing. It doesn’t seem worth the $130 for a full bottle for something that only gives me 5-10 minutes of pleasure. It is more like a dry, berry fruit scented soap. Great for the first 5 minutes after the shower, but then it is gone baby gone.
I purchased the M +G discovery kit, as I love the marketing and have been at risk of blind buying several of their scents. I am hoping this testing will rid me of that itch!
I have the same issue with En Passant and have wavered, too. I have a deluxe sample that I haven’t used up, and don’t know if I’d go with a FB when it’s gone. But it is a lovely scent while it lasts.
Before coming to a conclusion, ask someone else if they smell it on you.
What ltsg said. Also, CdG Red Carnation lasted a nanosecond but I ended up buying it anyway! I love it!
3 or 4 hours is my minimum.
I’m wearing Black Vines on Friday š
Full points today for the one and only Gucci Rush! Fun “bottle”, and reminds me of a sultry summer night dancing to an excellent bar band. So I’m wearing it on a gray day in March where the only dancing I do is trying to put on a pair of leggings lol.
I do love that *fun* bottle, too!
Gucci Rush is a great scent. I can’t wear it cause I have a very low tolerance for gardenia lol. But I appreciate the scent nonetheless. You have a good description for it. It’s lively and fun. Lol on the leggings haha
FUN!
I found some fun in Mancera Holidays, which doubles as a plea to Mother Nature for a vacation from this cold weather! I donāt think I need a coconut-vanilla-tropical floral, but if I did, this would be a good choice. It had more presence than most Iāve tried in this category.
Oh, that does sound fun! And I just had a vacation but this grim weather is making me long for another…
CP points for my root beer perfume, Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia. The opening blast of A&W makes me smile every time.
Root beer perfume is the very definition of Fun.
Agreed, root beer perfume sounds so fun!
I love me a root beer scent!
Now I want a root beer float! ?
I really enjoy that one too and love that initial blast of root beer!
SotD is the one, the only, Epris by Max Factor. It is similar to Revlon’s Ciara without the sweetness, or Youth Dew but more linear and animalic. Don’t throw tomatoes, but I find it to be a kindred spirit with Amouage Myths which I also love. It makes me happy as one of my little collection of Max Factor perfumes, which brings thoughts of auld lang syne.
I would never throw tomatoes at a cheaper version of a luxury fragrance!
I didnāt know Max Factor ever did perfumes (I love their lipsticks though), this is so interesting, thank you!
Good is good, no matter the price point!
I love Ciara.
Feeling a bit run down with a headache and at home with a positive COVID test this morning. I thought I already had it twice! In England I think the prevalence is 1:15 people at the moment from Omicron, itās a good thing it is not really virulent (at least in the vaccinated population).
Putting some Oud Satin Mood on from an old decant which I find cuddly and comforting. Itās one of the nicest rose aouds Iāve tried (more rose than oud). Probably because of the hefty dose of vanilla making it extra sweet. I like it in small doses (itās really potent).
Oh dear, so sorry Cicely! Hope you feel better very soon.
Thank you very much Robin! So far, no more than a headache and a bit of fatigue.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks madtowngirl!
How unlucky, get well soon.
Thanks, Aurora!
Yeah, Ockeghem Tween woke up with exactly the same thing this morning — headache, bit of a fever, bit of a cough. Took the rapid test the school sent home, and she’s positive. Self-isolating for 5 days, but she seems fine now, five hours after the test, of course. It’s our first instance of COVID in the family…inevitable, I guess.
I hope you feel better soon!
Thank goodness she’s feeling better. What a day!
Hope you won’t get it ockeghem!
Hope you feel better asap!
What the heck? So maybe having COVID does not confer immunity ā¦ or maybe itās now like a cold where youāll get it if you have not previously been exposed to it? This seems more prevalent than the flu but the stinger seems to have dulled.
Wish we had a crystal ball.
Oh no! Yuck and double yuck, even! Fingers crossed that you are feeling better soon.
Cicely! I’m so sorry. Is it possible you have had the bad luck of 3 variants? I hope you feel better soon.
So sorry you’re sick again!
SOTD is Zoologist Musk Deer. 1/2 point for the fun graphics on the bottle, even if the scent is more warm-and-cuddly than ‘fun’. It’s gray and dreary at the moment, we’re stuck in the fog.
Staring at samples for new skylight blinds. We finally took down the ancient ones (saying goodbye to the last mauve blinds in this house!) so now I have to pick a new color. White-ish? Light gray? Light tan? Can’t decide. Which probably means any of them would do.
What color are the walls? I vote gray.
Ceiling is knotty pine, walls are Benjamin Moore China White (a slightly tan white). So I kinda like the light tan, but would it just look dirty? The skylight rails only come in white, so whatever the shade color is, it will be bordered by the white rails.
First world problem, for sure.
https://www.homenish.com/colors-that-go-with-knotty-pine/
I also like the idea of gray
Stand by for mauve to be Pantone’s Color of the Year in 2024! But seriously folks, I think white-ish is best. I have a very dark, tree-shaded house, so my thought is always to brighten things up.
Just chiming here to say I just got a mauve owl! Do you not like mauve?
When we bought this house 27 years ago, every.single.window in the entire house had mauve blinds. I like the color, but not as a mandatory decor statement in every room, lol.
?Mauve owls.
Very protective.
FWIW, all the blinds I have are white. It goes with anything and everything.
Yeah all our other skylight blinds in other rooms are white(ish), for that very reason.
Received my new bottle of Lancome L’Autre Oud, along with the gwp of fancy skincare samples. This version is definitely fainter than the old one, and I can’t tell whether my three-year-old decant had partially evaporated. It otherwise smells pretty similar, and I will find out how long it lasts, the whole point of an oud, really.
Hope it works out! But I bet you’re right that the decant has just evaporated a bit.
for the cp Mojave Ghost
Thanks for all the wishes yesterday. I ate so much food..omg
Happy belated birthday ltsg!?
I have a sample of that I’ve been trying and I positively absolutely get nothing out of it. A faint smell at first and after that, zilch. Many people seem to love it. What am I missing?
Hmm..I would say “money saved”
š
Happy belated birthday!
Happy belated Birthday!
Day 3 of vacation scents, Iām in Sol de Janeiro EDP. With notes of caramel, pistachio, and vanilla. Sephora describes it as the scent of summer and I would agree. Itās yummy.
Watched the āofficialā Top Gun 2 last night and it looks like it will finally be released in May. Saw the sneak peek trailer 2 years ago! Nostalgic me really wants to see it. The first was released the spring of my senior year of high school! Back when the whole world was ahead of me. Sigh
Itās still ahead of you!
You are so right! I need to remember that!āŗļø?
Top Gun 2 is not something that would typically appeal to me, but I recently listened to the audio version of Val Kilmer’s I Am Your Huckleberry and his excitement about it was infectious.
Interesting. I meant to say I watched the trailer. Oops
I heard on the radio this morning that Val isn’t actually in the movie. Just mentions of him and a photograph. I don’t know for sure though.
I thought that Val Kilmer’s character died in the first “Top Gun” movie…
He had a tracheotomy as a result of his throat cancer and he said it can be difficult to talk, so I’m not surprised to hear that he himself isn’t in the film. In his book, his excitement about the sequel seemed to come from his love of these characters and wanting to see their story continue.
I have a mini of your SOTD in the body butter format. I can’t decide if I want to use it now, or wait until summer…
My college daughter got the body butter for Christmas. I bet the body butter would be great in the summer following a shower after a day in the sun.?
It wasnāt Val Kilmer who died, it was Goose (canāt remember the actorās real name).
Taking CP points in a 2012 strawberry perfume that Sephora put out as part of their little Note ParfumĆ©e line. It’s straight up sweet and tart, juicy strawberry. Back in MUA days, I became enchanted with these little single note perfumes and swapped for a few of them and found more on eBay. I’ve recently used some as room sprays but I still have a few I’ll wear as perfume, including Rose, Vanilla, and Monoi. I think I still have Lagoon too and will have to see how I feel about that one.
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Sephora/Fraise-Strawberry-38137.html
Oh, many to also say that I’ll probably switch to Solstice Scents Rose Mallow Cream later since it’s a rosy strawberries and cream perfume.
I think I have a sample of this! I donāt remember trying it though because of Sample Mountain, says she who got the Patchouli sample set from LS today.
It’s pretty fun so do try it. And I’m always plotting out my next sample order so I get it!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on any interesting patchoulis!
I have a bunch of these, somewhere! Cheap and fun!
Oh, nice!
CP points in my only “Love!!’ from Fragonard so far: Fleur de la Passion.
Fruity-fun passionfruit note!I should stick to my Hajusuuri-esque application method:8 sprays on skin,6 sprays on clothing.Perfect mix of drydown on skin/lingering top notes on fabric.
My emotional wellbeing is not so great this week,I’ve been put on new meds and my gp booked me off till Monday with burnout. Thanks for the laughs through it all.
XO’s.
Sorry to read that JB, I hope you are feeling better soon!
Thank you madtowngirl, this too shall pass.??
Be gentle with yourself, hope you will bounce back quickly.
Thanks Aurora.There’s always tomorrow.?
Oh JB, sending you best wishes for the next few days and a return to something much better for you soon?
I’m fairly optimistic for a constant pessimist,I must say.Haha…xo’s
Take good care, j! I hope you are feeling much better soon. Sending you hugs?
Grouphug!??
Oh dear. Feel better and hope things perk up for you very soon.
Same to you Calypso,I cannot imagine your own personal frustrations currently.
Hang in there!XO’S
Burnout is awful, look after yourself and rest!
Thanks.
Hey, welcome to the Mental Health Club! We will have to hang out together and cheer each other up. Iām hanging by a thread myself right now, dangling desperately for the last two weeks of this contract. Waiting for them give me the boot because Iām so SICK of the BS in this facility. Iām expressing myself on the regular, which no one appreciates, except a fellow nurse I worked with the other day. She is from Iran and a non-conformist, feeling very stressed as her entire family is still there, but will not go back for fear sheāll never get out. She looks like a Hollywood starlet. Anyway, she told me stories and then I told myself- āDeva, youāre one lucky lady!ā I find her exceptionally brave, fun, and independent. Wish I could send you T-Rex- sheās a better antidepressant than any medication out there. Sending love and support to you, my friend! ?
Hugs and a wave to you, Deva! (^^) /~~
Haha! It’s tough out there.I wish I did have a T-rex for good cheer and company!
Sending hugs and support to you as well dear Deva!
??ā?
I am sorry to read this and hope for your best. I always enjoy your posts! (^^) /~~
Thank you MossyBerry,my posts are an accurate reflection of me in person(well most of the time, haha!)
??
Hang in there JB, weāre all pulling for you!
Thank you T,caught you just before bedtime!Haha!
XO’s?
Thinking of you, JB! I hope the med adjustments work!
Sending hugs your way.
Oh, that’s tough. I remember when my Mom had to have medication adjustments due to side effects; it was rough for her, my brother, and me at the time. She did end up with a regimen that worked for her. I so hope the same happens for you. Big hugs.
Oh J B I hope you are feeling better soon! I’m glad you got the time off. Big hugs for you and some sun.?
Wishing you an easy transition with your meds.
Big hugs and rooting for you!
Good luck with the new meds J, hope it helps.
Tam Dao, nearly done with my current sample vial. It’s so good, and will layer nicely with something else in a few hours. Happy Hump Day!
You smell great nebbe!
Sotd is Carnal Flower. I definitely have fun wearing this.
I call that one “Carnival Flower”, lol. It is fun.
Great name for it!
Still trying to decide what I consider to be a fun scent! Meanwhile, I’m wearing FdM’s Noir Ćpices.
I love Noir Ćpices, you smell great!
To all the wonderful physicians Iāve worked with over the years, Thank You! I have learned so much from the ones that like to teach and see you have a sincere interest. Used to work for a GI doc back in the 90ās and that guy was such an outstanding diagnostician. His patients loved him because he genuinely cared. Like, for REALZ! Not a fake bone in his body. Saw people for free, found ways to get medicines to people at no or low cost, cared for patients that everyone else gave up on. He looked like Robert E Lee and grew up dirt poor in South Carolina. I miss him to this day. He once told me he knew the exact moment he wanted to be a doctor. He was out with his fiends when he was a kid, causing 8 year old mayhem with their sling shots. He nailed a bird, and when he went to look at it he felt such remorse he decided he would find a way to heal instead of maim or kill. He never took up his sling shot again.
Nothing in my perfume box piques my interest today, so Iām going with Fils de Dieu which is always perfect.
He sounds like a beautiful soul. I have similar scenes from childhood of witnessing animal mistreatment that still haunt me today. I cannot see how those who intentionally harm animals could ever be on the other hand, kind towards people. I could never understand killing animals for sport, and I really wonder what goes inside a hunterās head.
Being inside of the profession, I can attest how hard it is to find a physician with empathy, sincere desire to help and real up to date skill and knowledge these days. At least, in my environment. However when you find them, these qualities tend to go together!
He was a complicated soul, and could be very polarizing, but I really admired him. His whole life was being a physician, was in private practice for years, was also head if GI at a local VA Hospital. He died a couple years after he retired. I think he felt his purpose for living was gone. He loved to teach and was awarded Clinical Faculty Professor of the year five times in a row. ā¤ļø I donāt think they make them like that any more.
Thank you for sharing on his life…truly touching tribute.ā„ļø
What a lovely tribute! We need more like him. It is so hard to find good caring doctors.
Oh Deva this is such a good read, thank you for it. And I hope the next two weeks will fly by for you and that youāll never have to deal with a work situation like this again.
Sorry, replied to two of your comments in one go.
I’ve had my same Doctor for almost 35 years. He’s been my kid’s Doctor all their lives. He is so kind and understanding. He listens and has at times vented over the restrictions that have come over the years. I expect him to retire in the next year or two. I don’t know what I will do because they don’t make em like that anymore.
This is a big problem! You find somebody wonderful and they retire. š
Sweet tribute. I bet Nurses’ Day, there will be someone circulating stories like this about you (minus the slingshot).
It was Aromatics Elixir today, tonight it’s Molto Missoni from the most beautiful bottle in my collection.
?? for Aromatics Elixir!
It kept me happy all day?
Yes, I love AE. You smell fantastic!
So glad you like it too?
Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan
Yum.
Wearing Demeter Pistachio Ice Cream paired with some Pistachio body cream. Why not go “extra”?
Recommend an actual bowl of pistachio ice cream to gild the lily ?
Ooh, excellent idea!
That’s the spirit!
Sounds extra delicious!
It’s quite comforting and yummy!
Pistachio seems to be having a bit of a moment right now…
I just looked up mtg’s sotd (and your body butter); it sounds so good!!
The body butter smells of vanilla caramel and old fashioned sunscreen to me. Definitely a bit of a Coppertone vibe there.
I’m peeved at my doctor so I’m not joining in with Diva’s praise today, though that was well expressed and what a good story. I had a rather ghastly appointment yesterday where first the PA and then the surgeon sort of yelled at me for not doing my exercises on my leg right. Well, hello, three weeks of physical therapy? What was I doing all that time? I had to wait an hour to see anybody then went through that and THEN they brought out this torture device of the Spanish Inquisition (speaking of Goya, well, not quite, but could have been), and took forever explaining how this new brace works…. all the cleaning people were out in the office hard at work when I finally left, and my poor friend/hostess/ride-giver had to guide us through horrific late afternoon Houston traffic racing home as she had an evening class to get to…. I was so stressed out I asked her 19-year-old daughter to take me somewhere after that where I could buy wine and I sat and drank half a bottle, somewhat to her amusement. Well that part was fun but I’m all aching now I think from using my walker too much yesterday. Ugh and sorry to vent. (And said 19-year-old prepared us both a lovely charcuterie board! What a sweetie she is!). I then got up early today to go to (or be taken to) an eye exam and to pick out new glasses since I broke mine in the same fall as when I broke my leg. The broken ones were hanging half-off my nose yesterday and my doctor (to his credit) joked he was going to donate to a charity so I could finally get some new glasses…. Ugh….. I did spray on Azemour les Oranges this morning and that brightened the day up some. It’s been warm and sunny but breezy and in the 80’s but today was drizzly and kind of chilly. I’m tucked in bed now and ready to nap.
What a day – but wine and some charcuterie…yay for that young person! Sending a fragrant hand pat.
Omg! Iām sorry you had such a terrible appointment and that MD should be ashamed of himself, but if he is/was your surgeon, itās pretty unlikely. Too bad I wasnāt with you, Iād have given him the what for. Iām good at advocating for patients, whether it be tangling with management or MDās.
Enjoy your nap!Bedtime over here….
XO’s
Thatās an awful MD. I will add that my brother has a god-complex too.
ZOMG, what a horrid experience! I am so sorry that happened to you. What an ??!
That’s horrible! Your entire day almost ruined by bullies. That 19 year?.
Not finishing the bottle off — that was restraint after the day you had !
I’m wearing Shalimar MVP.
Beautiful.
I’m in Fox in the Flowerbed today. Sort of CP points? It’s working together with a lovely spring day to cheer me up, so feels fun. I’m self-isolating with Ockeghem Tween for the next 5 days, since my spouse has to conduct 2 concerts over the next week and can’t afford to get sick. (Since I’m in my home office, I endanger no one should I get sick.) So many long days of work lately…can’t believe it’s only Wednesday. At least the view from my office is sunny.
Sorry to hear that Ockeghem Tween has tested positive. That’s a bummer.
Hope ockeghemtween feels completely better asap!
Smelling quite wonderful in Farmacia Annunziata Vaniglia del Madagascar which is confirmed discontinued as in the rest of their original line to the best of my knowledge. They in in the outlet section of their website and have resumed worldwide shipping as well…I got an email they can ship again…Italy wasn’t allowing perfume to ship out but they have resumed now.
A kind NSTer sent me two decants ā„ļø and I am debating if I need a FB. It’s similar to St. Barth’s which I already have but it’s beautiful and there are some differences. š
Methinks youāll buy it since you noticed the difference and you like it ?!
Would you regret it if you didn’t get the Farmacia?
I prefer the Farmacia at this point. So sad it is discontinued. š
Sunny, windy day here, packing a bit and making lists of everything that has to get done by Sunday. Wearing Dior Tobacolor.
Good luck on the packing!
Also wishing you good luck on the packing!
More good luck from me!
More, more good luck!
Good luck with the packing, and welcome back (soon) to BC, even if it’s not ideal. š
Nothing wrong with BC of course, just bought a sucky house. š
SOTD = Chanel No.5 LāEau
I wore it from the small lipstick case – so cute. No pics as I made up for yesterdayās alarm ignorance by going into the office today. Cold though but definitely warmer on my walk back to Penn Station than when I went out to lunch earlier.
Curious for those eligible and NOT immunocompromised: ? or ? on getting another booster? Thereās no science behind it other than a non-published non-peer reviewed study in Israel. It almost feels like pharmaceutical companies are looking to lock up earnings even though the boosted %s are not robust and thereās the law of diminishing returns. Also, thereās no news about J&J except recommendation is to take either a Pfizer or Moderna booster2 – why? If I were to take a booster2, I will take another J&J – why mess with it?
I’m not rushing out to get a second booster. I figure I lucked out with mine when I did NOT get flattened back at the end of December. I’m gonna stick with masking up in public spaces and washing my hands more often.
And you smell great! Does No. 5 L’Eau actually stand up to cold weather?
It does – it is one of my wear any time of the year perfumes. 6 sprays today!
No reaction for me on the 1st or 2nd shots but I really donāt understand the why now? Iāll take it with my annual flu shot.
I had what medical professionals would call “a robust immune response” to all the shots I got.
I’m happy to talk about boosters offline if you’d like. I’ve dealt with the issue quite a bit over the last year for work (I advise our ESH Group, and was on the COVID policy team). Email me if interested.
I am curious what you think of this too Vee. I just retired as a nurse last year and have worked a lot in infection control. As much as I have some mixed feelings about a second booster, I will probably get it due to being 63 and having some mild COPD.
I was looking for a person on the street views so anything you can share publicly of your opinion would be great! Thanks.
Iām happy to share publicly, I just didnāt want to hijack a perfume discussion with my ESH blathering. But given that this is now yesterday’s SOTD, perhaps it is less of an intrusion.Ā Full disclosure: Iām a lawyer, not a medical professional; I review CDC guidance and WHO guidance (and the reports they cite) along with a team that does include med professionals, and from that we develop workplace ESH policy.Ā I canāt evaluate the medical validity of the reports themselves.Ā
The efficacy of the vaccines increased with additional doses, but there is also a leveling off such that there is no benefit to getting excessive doses. So, for an extreme example, there is no increased efficacy from getting a dose every week. The vaccine had different levels of efficacy in different people based in part on each personās pre-existing health. So a Moderna vax (for example) was likely more effective in a 20 year old than in a 40 year old, but more effective in a 40 year old than a 60 year old.Ā This is part of the reason why 2nd boosters are recommended for ppl 50+ Ā ā they likely did not get as much efficacy from their prior doses as someone younger than 50 did, so a second booster will likely add efficacy for them,Ā whereas it may not add efficacy for someone younger.Ā
As for one brand of vaccine over another, in part it depends on what outcome you are looking at: infection rate, hospitalization rate, or death rate, because they vary. I imagine many people donāt care if they get infected so long as they donāt end up in the hospital or dead.Ā But in order to compare apples to apples, you have to decide which factor you are looking at. And even then, it is difficult to compare apples to apples. Initially a larger % of ppl who got J&J went on to get infections as compared to the % of people who got Pfizer or Monderna and went on to get infections (these have been called ābreak throughā infections, but many ppl find that term problematic because it implies that getting a vaccine is suppose to eliminate your chance of getting an infection, but that’s not accurate.Ā Vaccines decrease the likelihood of infection but they donāt eliminate the likelihood. They also have a public health function apart from the individual health function, but thatās a topic for another day). Those % have moved closer over time, but it is difficult to say whether that is bc certain brands were more effective against different variants, or bc the J&J vax had a “slow burn” such that it took a longer time for it to become fully effective in the body, or some other reason.Ā At the time the recommendation for a 1st booster came out, Pfizer and Moderna recipients had a lower % of hospitalization and death, which seems to be the main reason that they were recommended as boosters to people who had gotten J&J as their first shot.Ā While the “break through” infection rate of all three brands is comparable now, Pfizer and Moderna still have lower rates of hospitalization and death from those “break through” infections.Ā Hospitalization and death rates are a lagging indicator (meaning, you will get infected before getting hospitalized or dying), so it may be that in a couple of months, the hospitalization and death rates among J&J recipients will be lower than they are now and will be closer to the rates for Moderna and Pfizer recipients, but where it stands today, the data shows lower rates of hospitalization and death among people who get Modern and Pfizer rather than J&J.

Thanks so much for this information Vee. In my situation it is worth getting the second booster.
I’m holding off until I can speak with my Doctor.
Very smart idea!
Scent twins and for Jalepeno I do think it holds up well, but I also use some of the Chanel 5 Body Cream with it.
Thanks! I tried it in the fall and thought it was a perfect perfume for the “shoulder seasons”, namely Fall and Spring. I haven’t done a 4-season testing of it yet.
Woo hoo twin,
“CDC: If you got J&Jās vaccine and booster, consider an mRNA shot now ”

Personally not interested in a booster. Iām very healthy, have already had one round of Covid which was no big deal, so I feel like Iām good.
I’ve received my notice for my second booster weeks ago as well, but I’m in no hurry. No Covid so far,had the shot and one booster.I also have not had a cold/flu/whatever in 13 years,so I think I’m “good”.
Somebody needs to sort my serotonin issues out though…Lol.

This one is for lillyjo! ???
Another day, another perfume. Back to playing in The Sample Stash, which can be a lot of fun if I get something I like.
SOTD = 500 Years from ELdO. A nice incense to warm me up today. ?
Hadnāt heard of this but a nice incense sounds like a great idea, enjoy!
It came out recently from ELdO (meaning in the past couple of years). The incense has tapered off into an incense & woods drydown. I do like their samples very much!
Ha! Gene Simmons lyrics are legendary!?
It’s a shock to see how long ago some of those songs came out, though! ?
I have not tried this one! Is it worth trying?
It’s worth a sniff, IMO.
Hello everyone, began the day early in a gentle dose of Un Jardin Apres la Mousson and am now in a soft cloud of Mitsouko tonight, both excellent choices for a cheer-yourself-up morning and a just-let-yourself-sink kinda evening. The conversation at the top of the page about long-lasting perfumes is an interesting read, but it reminded me that I wore one of those new EstƩe Lauder exclusive perfumes lately, which are apparently marketed as very long lasting, and while I do like the perfume-Desert Eden-I do not want to smell it all day and all evening! I wanted it to wear off to I could change for the evening but it never did so I layered NahƩma over it and boy I was in a very special cloud then ? Good wishes everyone!
There are some perfumes I don’t mind smelling of for a full day, but others can get on my nerves.
I am with you on sometimes wanting perfumes to last not quite as long although my 8-spray application may have something to do with longevity ?
After 8 hours I want whatever I sprayed to be gone. Any longer than that becomes irritating. So many perfumes nowadays have such intense amounts of Ambroxan and Ethyl Maltol they wear me out.
My sotd was the fun Prada Candy Night.
My hands are so dry that I created static when putting away clothes at work. The worst part was it would give me a shock in my radio earpiece. Lol.
I put hand cream on all day too.
At the risk of sounding like a know-it-all buttinski, would you mind if I gave a couple of recs for super dry hands? The two things that have saved me over the past Winter have been Aquaphor Healing Ointment and CeraVe Healing Ointment. Both of them are petrolatum-based, so if that is a problem for you, avoid.
I don’t have a problem with petroleum. I will look for them next time I am at the store.
You don’t sound like a buttinski! I appreciate the knowledge ?
When you are afraid your hands are going to crack because they’re so dry, it sucks!
I use both of these and second the recommendation.
Oh you must smell great! I’ve never tried the Night version but I bet it’s fantastic.
It really is. It’s definitely Candy though just with a chocolate twist.
Iāll be the other buttinski. I really like Yu-Be Skincare Advanced Formula Pure Hydration Cream. It is totally unscented and is supremely moisturizing without making your hands feel greasy. The tube is white and fluorescent green and the main ingredient is glycerin.
My 5 scents as a nurse here…
Suffering my whole career through with dry flaky hands,I have tried it all from the vaselines to the nuxe oils…
Not sure if you guys know the brand in the US,but the only thing giving me immediate relief and good hydration is Ingrams’ Camphor cream,in the original dark green tub. It’s got the potent camphor smell for like 5 mins then that is gone.
I wore MFK CPLS from a decant today. Nice and comforting! ?
That is a very soothing scent. I think Iāll put some on right now in fact. Good night!
