On average, a Saudi wears 2.5 litres of perfume a year, while Europeans use just 300ml, according to Fatima Khalil Al Ridha, a Saudi perfumery researcher and coach.
“This means Saudis wear perfumes eight times more than the Europeans,” Al Ridha said.

That is 84.5 fluid oz/year. 0.23 fl oz/day. 6.8 mls/day.
That is a 50 ml bottle/week, more or less.
52 50 ml bottles a year. Hmm, and I thought I sprayed with abandon! Ha!
Well, there you go, perfumistas, here is the way to use up all that perfume you have hanging around: Spray like a Saudi!
An infinitely better slogan than the one in the window of the Shoreditch ELO branch a few years ago: Smell Like a Slut! Those teen boys in the marketing department, sigh
This made me laugh.
WOW!
I wonder if the desert air has anything to do with spraying that much into the ether????
Maybe. But also, what you buy is not necessarily what you use up…we all know that story!!
But it is true that people in the ME use more fragrance, and layer more, and offer perfumes to guests, etc etc.
I have lived in Jeddah, Riyadh and Ta’if and feel comfortable agreeing with the data.
Plus, after fragrance is applied, wearers walk through a cloud of smoldering frankincense and are enveloped in thobes and hijabs. At night in the souks I can smell it even now in my memory.
