It's National Candy Corn Day on Saturday and Halloween on Sunday. We're marking it all with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the spookiest fragrance you know, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Still getting spicy with Chopard Casmir.
A nod to Halloween and good looking men with a singing voice lower than the basement. I’m all about that bass. ?

I mostly clicked to see good looking men. Lol
Happy Halloween Deva!
?????
Well, why else would you click?!? ?
You smell great!
Unlike, apparently, most people, I love candy corn. Love it!
I keep my last few bars of Roger & Gallet carnation soap in my socks-and-underwear drawer. This morning I pulled out a pair that had been lying right on top of of the soap and it smelled so incredible that I knew I had to complement it by wearing Comme des Garçons Carnation, a violently spicy carnation soliflore, the perfect capper to this week of spicy scents. It’s absolutely my favourite CdG.
I love the chocolate ones best, even though I am not at all sure that they taste any different from the regular. They just look better 🙂
Also, this looks good:
https://www.brachs.com/products/halloween/mini-candy-corn-and-sea-salt-chocolate-peanuts.html
I need some R&G soap, haven’t had any in ages.
They don’t sell Brach’s in Canada, alas. But the Bulk Barn gets a huge binful of the generic kind every September/October, so I can have them if I want them. I’ve already bought some twice and probably won’t have any more, but when they go on sale after Hallowe’en, if there are any left, I juuuuuuust might.
I am a shower-gel user and absolutely not a soap person, but I make an exception for R&G, because they smell so beautiful and are so intensely perfumed. I’ve had a box of three bars in my drawer for at least a decade and it still smells as good as the day I unwrapped it, hasn’t attenuated in the least. I don’t even know how that’s possible. (I keep one of the bars in the soap case and take it out every now and then for a few showers, then put it back in the drawer. Those three bars will last me for the rest of my life at this rate.)
I have had a bar of Frederic Malle Vetiver soap in a drawer nearly that long. Same thing. I have not managed to test a Nesti Dante that long yet…
My favorite foamy soap at the moment is Bath & Body Works Halloween which smells like Candy Corn and Marshmallow (these were the listed notes and the soap delivered).
I never go into B&BW because it’s just too much, but maybe I’ll pop in next time I’m in the mall and see if they have any of that. It sounds nice!
You can never have enough seasonally appropriate hand soap. I already bought my Christmas liquid hand soaps (Peppermint Swirl and Toffee Twinkle, they’re called). I’ll bust ’em out December 1st along with the Diamine advent calendar.
Oooh, great reminder to go find that peppermint hand soap wherever I got it last year…usually I find these things at Trader Joe’s, but not last year, obviously. I think I got it at Famous Foods, this awesome little independent grocery in Vancouver that has the best bulk selection ever. Need to plan a trip there. 🙂
You’re not alone. I love candy corn. So much that I can’t buy it because I’ll eat the entire bag.
Loved candy corn as a kid. It’s been so long since I had it that I am not sure if I still feel that way. I recently tried some other childhood favorite Halloween candy, and couldn’t believe that I ever liked them. Too sweet for me now!
Happy Halloween weekend to all celebrating. I hope you’ll have a spooktacular time ?
In the meantime here we are getting prepared for All Saints’ Day on November 1.
Today I am wearing Rosine’s new Bulle de Rose. It’s a pretty nice perfume. Definitely more feminine than unisex, not to mention it’s not masculine at all but heck with it, I like it. Smells like rosy bubble bath with hint of blackcurrant. I like the clean smells so if you do too, you might enjoy Bulle de Rose.

Nice pic, Lucas! The notes sound good, too!
Thanks, it’s a carefree perfume for sure.
Happy Halloween lucasai!
This picture is amazing!
Wearing Dame Perfumery Chocolate Man, as my Halloween perfume. I am doing the decanting today for the splitmeet and it fits the sweet Halloween mood nicely!
On my second cup of coffee and having pumpkin waffles for late breakfast. Planning on watching a couple of oldie Halloween movies after finishing my errands later today. Trying to have a relaxing day!
Happy Halloween! ????
Happy Halloween pl67!

I hope you have a very relaxing day.
Thank you, Sistine! Trying my best!

Hey, how is your mom today?
Thanks for asking Robin. No much improvement today, so she will be in the ICU until she is stable. I will spend the day with her tomorrow.
I’m sorry to read this, pl67. Sending you and your mother lots of love.
Thank you, Koyel!
Oh dear. I am late getting back here — too many projects this weekend — but hope she did better on Sunday.
Mmm, waffles! Sounds like a nice weekend. 🙂
Food wise is very pumpkin promising! ??
Chocolate and pumpkins? You’ve got the smells and tastes of the spooky season down. ???

Maybe I should go with A*Men Pure Coffee as SOTD…
Hope you got some caffeine, pixel!
AdV Oeillet Bengale today continuing the spice theme in a subtle way. Funny, despite working part-time now I STILL look forward to Saturdays!
The news says we might get to see the Aurora Borealis even here in Seattle and I would so love to see it. Not sure I am up late/early enough (and likely have too many city lights nearby) but I’ll watch for it this weekend (checked this morning – nothing).
That would be so amazing! I’d love to see the Aurora Borealis. Someday….
Where I grew up we could see it (and hear it – it hums) almost every winter. The aurora borealis is just gorgeous!
It hums??! How magical…
Happy Halloween! Wearing Lush Lord of Misrule for the day.I’m not giving out candy tonight but wi be going out for our neighborhood annual costume parade later.
Fingers crossed for seeing the aurora.
I dream of seeing the aurora – literally! I have dreamed a couple of times about seeing it. The aurora australis is visible from the south of New Zealand sometimes, but I’ve never been in the right place at the right time.
What perfumes would be appropriate for such an occasion, do you think?
Gosh, something magical and not too loud (so we don’t detract from the scenery). Any suggestions?
A soft incense?
Mind you, have never tried it but was always drawn to the (original packaging) blue bottle: Goutal’s Nuit Etoilee.
A nice sandalwood? Tam Dao!
Well, coincidentally, a few hours later I can answer my own question! I’ve just read an article on Fragrantica about new perfumes announced at Cannes, which include a one from Olfactive Studio called Dancing Light, inspired by the Northern Lights in Finland 🙂
We may be able to see the Aurora Borealis here this weekend too. I’m hopeful because it’s clear out today and supposed to remain clear until next week!
When I was a kid, I remember trick-or-treating and looking up to see the Northern Lights. It was just magical!
Hope you do – please let us know!
Sorry I’m missing it!
Hoping that someone here at NST gets to see the Aurora soon!

Heading into work wearing Narciso White Cube. The bottle is opaque, but the sprayer sputtered a bit like it was almost empty. I can’t be sure though. I don’t really celebrate Halloween, unless you count buying the half off candy the day after!
Twins on “buying the half off candy the day after”. Lol! Looking forward to getting more Peeps! ?
The half price candy is the best part of any holiday for me!
My Black (opaque bottle) Perfecto has been sputtering, too, so I find myself in the same conundrum. I’ve shaken it, but it’s still kinda hard to tell.
Bigger bottle next time, apparently. Once it goes, I think it’ll my first bottle to be finished off since rabbit-holing. I did split off quite a bit of it, though.
Sometimes if you gently slosh an opaque bottle, you can tell by the sound how full it is. A higher pitched noise means less stuff inside.
Inspired by Springpansy, I’m wearing Oeillet Bengale. The first sniff reminded me of the spicy “Pinks” (little carnations) in my grandma’s yard.
Seattle fragrance twins!
I’m wearing Boyfriend today and just chilling. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
You smell wonderful – hope you have a great weekend, too!
I’m currently bare of scent, drinking a cherry blossom tea. But my big news is the Guerlain Advent beehive arrived! Wow, it’s huge! An appalling amount of packaging involved, beehive within box, inside box inside cardboard shipper! Yuck on that. But I’m so excited to start opening the drawers each day. I peeked at the first day and it’s a 10ml glass bottle of Cuir Beluga. A real bottle, not a sample vial.
That sounds amazing! Kepp us posted when you start opening each day.
I’ve seen pictures, it’s beautiful!
Oh wow, I’m thrilled that you got it! How exciting!
That’s so fun! Enjoy it all.
I’m so envious! I keep almost ordering it.
So cool!
Oh, my goodness! Please share the adventure once you start opening!
Happy Halloween! It’s not such a big thing here, but my mother always has a few sweets on hand for any trick or treaters in her neighbourhood. I live in the middle of town, so there aren’t many kids around.
I’ve continued my testing of the Puredistance discovery set. I like all of them, and love several, but I haven’t found one that is so different from things I already have that it merits the price. The set doesn’t include the latest, 12. I’ll make sure to add it to my next Luckyscent sample order, because it does sound lovely.
Post shower, I’m thinking of further testing of Rubikona.
It is relatively low key here in some ways (trick or treating itself is limited to a 2 hour window from 6-8, and there just aren’t that many kids out in costume), but the town puts up decorations, and houses do too (more this year than usual) and there is a separate night where the stores in town give out candy to anyone in a costume.
I am stocked with peanut chews and hoping kids come take them away so I don’t eat them 🙂
Hi all!
Wearing Snow Fairy. And Halloween clothes. Just found a Halloween shirt I will wash for tomorrow. I love it, prepare with tons of my favorite candies and have one or two trick or treaters.
Jalapeno, if you read this, I am going to the p.o. this week with other packages. If you want Youth Dew, contact me @

Thanks, Robin! Happy Halloween to you!
Hi AnniePerfumes! I did see both your comments here. Sorry to hear that your email is on the fritz right now.
Had to delay my perfume choice this morning because I was canning jam and the house was just so darn fragrant already. Now I can sit back and appreciate the fact that my “Christmas shopping” is already done. Wearing Traversée du Bosphore for the remainder of the day and wishing I could take my son out to the apple orchards in the west county, but he’s on a camping trip with his dad until tomorrow noon.
The rest of this grey, damp day will involve lots of tea and sewing some cushion covers for my living room chairs out of this adorable fabric: https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/8278408-leopard-parade-cream-by-danika_herrick
Oh, and trying to *not* buy a 5ml mini of the new Tauer…
That fabric is indeed adorable.
You smell great! I was up at 2:30am and saw the release announcement for Tauer Sundowner. Immediate blind buy! I am so excited, as the last few releases have not been my cup of tea.
Also, I really need to learn how to can my own jam, sounds fun.
I used to have a really helpful publication from UC Cooperative Extension all about canning and preserving, but the basic info in the Joy of Cooking has been covering the bases for me for years. I tend to keep a lot of my homemade jam in the freezer for ease, but always can some of it to give away as gifts. Pencils out nicely, as I get all my jam-making fruit from old abandoned trees out in the hills and the hyperexuberance of grapes that grow on the property here. My dad gave me a proper French copper jam pan several years ago and said that he considered it “an investment in his own future well-being.” 😀
I love your gift! I do lots of canning, water bath only as a pressure canner scares the crap out of me. I do wild grape jelly, sour Cherry jam and several chutneys, along with a basic pasta sauce. 3 different pestos go in the freezer.
Pressure canners scare me, too! My mom went through a multi-year mango chutney-making phase, and always fig jam from the tree at my grandmother’s house and plum jam from the shopping bags full of fruit that a neighbor would give us. Wild grape sounds fun, but the wild grapes around here are so sour and astringent that I don’t think I could do much with them.
I giggled out loud at your dad’s comment. ?
Love your fabric! You will have some fabulous looking chairs!
I’ve been mildly obsessed with this fabric for about a year now: https://www.theinside.com/products/throw-pillow-14-x-20-polo-green-cheetah-by-scalamandre-30170
I was just thinking about it yesterday after (finally) ordering the sectional we picked out from Ethan Allen in May (which, 5 months later is more expensive and will take longer, natch.) It’d be great with everything in our living room – except the coffee table. But the cream colorway you’ve chosen would work (also love the Tangerine option!) At any rate, I’ve got until at least mid-March to think about it ?
Favorite-ing your fabric – thank you!
That fabric is CUTE! But in my house, it would get schmutzed up in about 30 seconds, sigh.
Well, it’s just going on some zippered throw cushions, so they’ll be washable. We have a high schmutz factor here, too.
Smart! ??
Wearing several sprays of 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop today. Appropriately, I am about to bake cookies; a batch of raspberry almond with white chocolate and also a batch of chocolate chip.
It’s definitely cooler out today, but the sky is clear and sunny. Like springpansy, I hope that the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis are visible this weekend.
You smell delicious, love OTCS. Wish I could see the aurora borealis too!
Thank you! I saw the Aurora Borealis once when I was trick-or-treating; I was probably 10 years old. I’m hopeful to see it this weekend!
No Aurora Borealis for me yet, although I checked both late last night and early this morning.
And you smell wonderful!
And – any chance of sharing your recipe for the raspberry almond cookies? (My email is in my gravatar/screen name.)
Recipe sent to you! I didn’t see any Aurora Borealis either last night.
Raspberry almond cookies with white chocolate sounds quite divine! Hope you get some good sightings (and the hum)!
They really are. We will be seeing my hubby’s parents so they will be getting a bunch of them! We won’t be here for Christmas so this is kinda my Christmas baking done now.
Terrible skygazing weather for me last night, plus I think NJ is simply too far south for the Northern Lights to make an appearance. I keep hoping, though.
In Fendi Theorema – this is such a great, easy wear scent!
Taking my tween to the opera later!
You smell wonderful! Theorema for me is a very mid-winter fragrance, but I should get out of my rut as it’s perfect for fall.
Hope you both loved the opera!
I’m wearing a combo of LPRN and Rose Barbare, plus random sample spritzes. 🙂
All the splits were mailed out yesterday, yay!! Thanks to everyone who participated.
Glad to hear you were able to get the stopper out of that bottle!
” plus random sample spritzes”
I do that too. Sometimes it’s the only way to test them out.
Which is your favorite LPRN? Looking forward to sniffing my splits – thank you!
I have not smelled them all, but the ones I own are one of the original iterations (LPRN2 I think) which was renamed Mademoiselle Guerlain, the current LPRN edp and Black Perfecto edp.
I haven’t either, but I had a sample of the edp and every time I wore it I’d do that “what smells so good? oh, that’s me!” so I think I probably need more. Different enough from BP to justify, yes?
I’m wafting PdE Equistrius this afternoon. I often forget that I have this because it’s a large-ish decant in a nondescript bottle that is usually buried at the back of a dark shelf … but I really do enjoy wearing it. Maybe I should find it a nicer bottle.
That a beautiful perfume. Smelling great!

In other news … since I have never seen a cat on a leash (except in pictures), here are my observations from being out and about this past Thursday – all about dogs (and if yours happens to be similar to one of these, it’s a mere coincidence):
1. You can’t expect me to treat your bark seriously if you’re a umm ? umm Rubenesque (!) corgi cooped up inside your house and barking your head off.
2. A tiny electrified (the hair was very sparse and spiky) terrier mix, walking a good 10 feet behind its owner, yimping (yipping and jumping up and down). Was it sending me a message? Were the yips actually cries for help? Save me, kind stranger!
3. A Dalmatian was walking his (assuming here) owner. The dog kept tugging at the leash, barking, each bark resulted in another segment of the leash in his mouth and running into neighbors’ yards. I was horrified when the owner fell (thank God it was on yet another neighbor’s yard) and she let go of the leash. Dog and owner were so surprised but the owner had the presence of mind to get ahold of the leash before the dog tasted freedom. Let’s just say I was happy when they crossed to the other side of the street. The dog is in need of serious obedience training and the owner needs to learn how to handle dogs.
4. And finally, there was a labrador, walking with his human family. He was the best boy – an occasional bark but he trotted along with the family!
In Halloween news, I have ZERO candy … I may get a bag at Target.
You smell absolutely divine!
Thank you, allo!
I’m waiting for the 50% off Halloween Candy sales. I’m mean $15 for a bag of candy?!? Come on.
As far as the dog situation- people are clueless. I feel bad for all these dogs that are dropped at shelters or abandoned, only to be euthanized because people can’t be bothered to socialize and get proper training for the poor thing. Millions of dogs. It’s sickening, because most of these “problem” dogs were created by their ?? owners. Do you think a dog (of any age- puppy or adult) comes with the ability to speak English and read your mind?! Gah! Don’t get me started…
This is what stops me from getting a dog. People keep telling me I should get one because my daughter loves them so much. I know though that I can’t afford the training, and even if I could, I can’t trust that anyone but me would put in the work and stick to it. I feel bad but I have to be realistic about it.
Practical and smart!
Good call! A few families in my neighborhood did get “pandemic dogs”, and those animals have the worst petiquette. Dogs need structure and discipline as well as affection.
So true and I love “petiquette”!
Aren’t portmanteau words fun?!
Lillyjo, you know yourself and act accordingly. My beef is with people who either don’t care, think owning a pet is like owning a stuffed animal, or act as if the animal is an extension of their own ego. As for your daughter, I don’t know how old she is, but volunteering at shelters/vet offices etc is an educational way for her to get some dog (and other animal) love. Also a good way for her to see all domestic “pets” are a responsibility, both financially and emotionally. Kudos to you for NOT getting a pet because you know your limits! ??
I would get a live cat first before I get a dog but even a cat means extra work. That said, “I” would need to go to obedience training were I to ever get a dog.
Had cats too, but they were raised with dogs and acted accordingly. ?
I’ve not only walked a cat on a leash, but seen others doing the same (last sighting was very recent.)
The craziest dog story I have is a sighting that occurred while I was in the In & Out Drive-Thru on Sunset in Los Angeles about 10 years ago:
I saw an elderly woman walking a leashed standard-sized poodle down the street. Except the poodle was walking on its hind feet. They were about the same height, walking side-by-side, down Sunset Boulevard in the middle of the afternoon.
It was one of those rub-your-eyes am-I-really-seeing-this moments (especially as I was extremely hungover), but I was in a car full of people who witnessed it, too. Only in LA, I guess?
It mist be the neighborhood I live in — I see cats sunning themselves by the window (and yes, I worry if they realize time changes and my conclusion is no based on my observation). As to the poodle walking on its hind legs, I can imagine it dancing to some tune!
I *have* walked a cat on a leash. No, it was not my own cat. It did NOT end well. The cat in question had a reputation as a psycho and lived up to (down to?) that. I narrowly avoided having blood (mine) spilled.
That was pretty much my experience, too, except psycho cat was mine ?
Cats decide to do what you want at their rate, don’t they? I once trained a cat to pull a string through a crawl space so that I could tie electrical line onto the string and run electricity to parts of that very old basement… It took her a while to decide to do it, but once she consented, we made much of her and she hung around and watched us pull the electrical lines through the hole she had come through and she got very excited about that, as if she sort of got the idea how much she had helped. She was a great cat….
I have never tried to get a cat to walk on a leash, more power to you all.
Animals as clever! Training any animal to do complex, multi-step behaviors garners major respect. Kudos to you and whip smart feline. ?⬛
Teflon The Wonder Cat cedes her title to your cat!
I’m shuddering just thinking about it!
Happy Halloween, NST! ?
I’m still bringing the spice with Initio Side Effect. Me so yummy! ?
Love that! Thanks to a sweet NSTer!
Cottage fries this morning from the last of my meagre potato harvest – I need to mound more dirt and water more. Duh! Lesson learned and I am drawing up a plan for next year’s garden. Lushous (is that a word – 🙂 ??) coffee with real half and half – a treat I allow myself on the last day of every month, and a generous spritzing of Mitsouko…Happy Sunday, everyone…
I learn something every year with my gardening. How wonderful – fresh potatoes!! I’m planning to add some garlic to my vegetable growing next year. Need to read up on whether I need to do anything special for success.
If you do garlic, don’t wait too long to harvest it! Once it starts to bolt, there’ll be a wee green leaf-core in each clove that will tend to make the heads spoil faster.
Thanks for the info! Will do. Then I think I’ll probably want to do succession planting with it so it’s not all ready at once.
Garlic cloves can be pureed with olive oil and kept in the fridge for months. We’ve done that before with entire heads of fresh garlic.
Garlic is super easy, if you are willing to be a little haphazard. I am going to put some cloves in around my surviving rhubarb plants tomorrow. Was going to do it today, but it started raining harder. Poke some holes in the ground and put individual cloves of organic garlic (not treated with anti sprouting agents) in the holes, point up, so the point is below the ground the same depth as the garlic is high. Cover with a generous several inches of leaves or other nice mulch, whatever you have. In the spring, wait patiently and some of them will sprout through the mulch. Then you can put your nicely prepared batch next to those, but this way you get some really early. 🙂
Oh, and also, don’t believe the people who say that garlic repells gophers. The gophers ate every single head of mine the first year I tried to grow it — all 40 or so. That was the same year they ate all my onions and sage. The predators must have found them deliciously seasoned that year!
Wouldn’t like the Corpse Reviver be the spookiest perfume? I have not smelled it though
I haven’t either! I am always meaning to make the cocktail but never have.
Happy Halloween!
I have to put my little pumpkin’s outfit on her.? She can’t bark anymore, but she used to scare the life out of anyone coming to the door!
My email has been having trouble sending replies the last few days.
Aw, poor little pumpkin!
I’m in a breathtaking beauty today – Jasmins Marzipane. Headed to our favorite kids park with my toddler daughter.
Hope you guys had fun in the park!
We had lots of fun. Yesterday it was so fun trick or treating!!
I’m in Ormonde Jayne Woman because Allo and I talked about it yesterday. Such an interesting fragrance. Funny how I can smell cardamom in almost any fragrance that lists it as a note but I can’t smell it here. I smell the grass oil and coriander (and maybe black hemlock? but I guess I don’t really know what that smells like) but maybe something I am noticing is actually the cardamom. Anyway, it’s gorgeously different than anything else I wear. And this is just a sample!
I have not smelled it in a long time, but remember it as dark…maybe the hemlock drowns out the cardamom?
In Ambre Narguile for Halloween.
Laying low, but may make some challah dough and/or soup if I have the energy later.
The project my husband is working on has a large Spanish contingent (and some of them are married to South & Central Americans and Mexicans.) Unlike previous projects he’s worked on, his co-workers have moved their families out – spouses, children – so it makes for a big, mostly Spanish but otherwise Spanish-speaking community.
One of them hosted a “barbeque” yesterday, to which we were invited. (We were the only US natives in attendance.) “Barbeque” in this case meant 2 kinds of paella cooked on outdoor grills, grilled Moroccan-style pork skewers, fresh & cured chorizo with manchego cheese, empanadas, and tortillas de papas. I should have spent less time talking and more time eating as everything was astoundingly delicious.
The company he’s contracted with is French, and there is thus a big French contingent as well. We need to figure out how to get on that invite list!
You smell delicious, and that BBQ sounds fabulous!
That sounds incredible!
Oh my word! That all sounds amazing! Hope you can get a foot in the door with the French folk as well.
I can’t wait until Littles gets over the worst of his childhood pickiness and we can re-broaden our culinary scene. Making chicken stock today for future minestrone, and hoping to have time for a Bolognese as well before the pumpkin-carving and costume-finalizing gets underway.
Oh! That reminds me that I bought ground meat for bolognese ages ago that’s been languishing in my freezer. I’d completely forgotten about it.
Good luck with your cooking adventures today. The young ‘un will come around soon enough!
One of the Spaniards caters as a side gig, so we were able to buy his paella on weekends for a while. Another has showered us with delectable tinned seafood and cheeses imported from Spain. They are good friends to have! Although I usually send cakes as a thank you ?
Wow, that “barbeque” or “barbacoa” sounds fabulous! Drooling here…
Drooling here too, reading about your Spanish feast! And you smell great for Halloween!
Finished my Christmas shopping for my Dad and friend last night. Trying to get ahead of the chaos. With the shipping thing going on, I am trying to make sure that things arrive before Christmas. Woke up late today and wearing no 5 edt and will go the Lyric route when I take my shower.
Wow, good for you Dawn!
I’m wearing Maitri by Provision Scents today. Lots of vetiver and mandarin and I smell fabulous. Need to start putting treat bags together for trick or treaters.
Vetiver and mandarin sound like a great combo. Unfortunately for me, citrus notes tend to be difficult.
Happy Halloween NST! ???⚡???
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/5Ksz_fS9TUI
Something disturbing for the day!
SOTD = Ummagumma, from the sample stash. Yeah, I broke down and got some samples from BF to check out. I swear that I got a very short lived topnote of fresh black coffee with this. It’s a heavy, dense thing… almost too much for the temperate (for Halloween) weather. Will retry when temps are much cooler and/or downright cold.
Hey!
A new metal album is coming out. Caned by Nod, normally a country guy, Cody Jinx, but he loves his metal, too!
I’ve been drooling over Metallica’s special anniversary release of The Black Album, aka “Metallica”. Some of the artists they asked to cover the songs had me scratching my head, but the proof is in the listening. Wow!
I will keep an ear out for your music rec! ??
Found a bag of carded SL samples I’d forgotten I had. Yesterday was Arabie (top notes great, dry down not so exciting IMO but nice). Today is Daim Blond, and I am really liking it. A lot.
Just a weird weekend. Tons of work and grading, and I am super tired but at least slept well. I think we have found a good person to house/cat-sit for us while we are out of the country next semester — we’ve never had a house sitter during past long-term absences but we also didn’t have our beloved Mr. Squeakers (not his real name). I think this will be a win-win for us and the sitter.
Heading to a friend’s house for dinner on the porch while helping to manage the trick-or-treat throngs. I have a pan of Tahini/halvah chocolate brownies (Ottolenghi recipe) for the grownups.
And RIP Jerry Remy (for anyone who follows baseball) — we knew he was not doing well but I was still shocked to hear of his death.
Yes, RIP Jerry Remy, what sad news! He threw out the first pitch at a game recently. ?
Good luck with all the work and grading! And glad to hear you might have found a good house and cat sitter, must be such a relief.
Yes, we watched that game live (on TV) — the way Fenway erupted with joy when the crowd saw him was wonderful.
Hope the grown ups had fun — those brownies sound delicious! We did not get throngs, so too much leftover candy again.
Very lazy Sunday after a bad night’s sleep. Wearing samples of BDK Velvet Tonka and Atelier Materi Peau d’Ambrette on each arm. Love both of them.
Ouch. Hope you get good sleep tonight cazaubon!

❤️❤️❤️
I did a Target run this afternoon. The only candies left were at the front of the store and I ended up getting a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (the bigger ones) and Dove Dark Chocolate in spooky lime green. I put them outside in a bowl, along with some Lindt balls. Discerning kids will know which ones to pick.
I also bought a combo air fryer / toaster oven. I didn’t see any on the floor so I asked one of the workers and I was ecstatic when he said it was the last one. With the Red Card 5% discount and $75 gift card promo, the total came to $165. Not bad IMHO. I forgot to buy a liner for the bottom of it, but do I need one? Looking forward to using it. Now I need to decide what to do with the still NIB 2 quart air fryer ?.
So far, not a single Trick or Treater to be seen here.
We’ve never gotten any trick-or-treaters at our house, although the scene is always hopping just a couple of blocks away — we’re just too on-the-edge-of-town-and-the-marsh to lure the kids over. But I realized today that we’ve made friends with quite a few families with young kids on our street and that one or more of them might just stop by later, so I grabbed a few small chocolate bars from Trader Joe’s this morning just in case. They won’t go to waste, kids or no! 😉
Current count is now 4. They’ve started much later this year. Not really seeing any foot traffic on the sidewalks.
Much lighter turnout here this year, too. Only three houses had lights on, on a block of about 16. But still nice to see the kids who were out.
Things picked up later on. Still lighter than in years past, and I noticed a lot fewer lights on over front doors this year. There’s a ton of leftover candy.
Lol first I read hair dryer/taoster oven combo I was like what haha. I will take a Dove chocolate if you have any left. Lol..Snickers for me at the moment.
And at first read, I saw “lint balls,” like the kind you find on clothes, under furniture, etc…?
That’s a delectable selection of chocolates for the kids! I’d be happy to have any of them.
Happy Halloween all!
I’m catching up on the posts before taking my son out trick or treating later. I don’t think I’ll have many more years before he and his friends shoo away the parent chaperones!
I had a very socially challenging day yesterday with in laws and their friends. I won’t go into it because… politics…. or I should say, things that aren’t political being turned that way! So, I deliberately avoided wearing any perfume all day yesterday and today I’m extra happy to be sampling nice things I received in the mail recently. I’m glad to have yesterday behind me, and wearing 19-69 Kasbah on one arm and Fort & Manle Amber Absolutely on the other arm. Both very nice!
I hope everyone had a good weekend.
So sorry about the challenging social interaction! That’s really too bad. Hope trick or treating is great fun and makes up for the bad 🙂
Happy Halloween, y’all! I was in Francesca Bianchi The Dark Side yesterday. Wow, it has great sillage and lasted the entire day. The decant had a wimpy sprayer, so most of it ended up on my fingertips. Very heavy, sweet amber.
Tried Sex and the Sea today. Very unusual: a combo of tropical/coconut/amber notes. Definitely a strange one, but it’s nice to try something so off the wall!
