Diptyque will launch the limited edition Grand Tour collection, including two personal fragrances (Kyoto and Venise) and three home fragrances (Paris, Miliès and Byblos), next week.
Kyoto ~ Kyoto celebrates the birthplace of ikebana with this blend of incense, rose and vetiver developed by perfumer Alexandra Carlin, packaged in traditional Furoshiki wrapping cloth. In 100 ml Eau de Toilette. ["Ten thousand kilometres further East lies a destination never visited but often dreamed of by the trio of founders. A place whose aesthetic has often served as a source of inspiration for the Maison: Japan, and more specifically Kyoto, city of art and of history, cradle of ikebana. The journey pauses here to allow time for reflection, reproducing the codes of this age-old floral art form in a perfume that strikes a subtle balance between incense, rose and vetiver, created by Alexandra Carlin to echo the triptych of sky, heart and earth."]
Venise ~ Venise was developed by perfumer Cécile Matton and reflects the vegetable gardens of the Venice lagoons, with notes of citrus, basil, green pepper, vetiver and tomato. The coffret includes three 7.5 ml travel sprays of Eau de Toilette. ["Our odyssey of the senses continues on to Italy. To be precise, Venice, visited regularly by the founders, charmed by its languid mystery and shifting colours. In 2021, the Tour pauses to take in a green Venice. The vegetable gardens of the Serenissima lagoon, Mediterranean breeze and herbal scents in the early morning freshness – the fragrance of earth mingling with that of bell peppers, tomatoes and citrus fruits."]
A pop-up shop featuring the collection will be open at Selfridges in London from 6 September to 3 October.

I want that red bottle!
Is Venise only to be available in travel vials?
I want them all, and yes, only in the vials.
I should say…so far as I know! But that is also all that is listed on Diptyque’s press site.
That red bottle! *WANT*
Omg. That Kyoto!
Kyoto is lovely but doesn’t last long sadly
Such a pity, the bottle is beautiful.
It really is.
And the scent is lovely.
I might skip it simply because it doesn’t last long.
But it can be only on me.
Might be different on you.
You tried it already?
I tried it in a store here in Denmark.
They aren’t allowed to sell it before August 26, but the salesperson let me smell it.
It’s lovely but sadly doesn’t last long.
Also it will be way more expensive that what they normally have.
Thanks so much for posting – I think that bottle is beautiful, too; but not for me are the scents fleeting and light.
All the scent descriptions in the press release appeal to me. If only money grew on trees though…?
At least a little less expensive than a real-life Grand Tour.
“Ten thousand kilometers further East [sic] lies a destination never visited but often dreamed of by the trio of founders. A place whose aesthetic has often served as a source of inspiration for the Maison: Japan . . .”
Seems like its time for the trio to take a trip!
I know two of the three founders are dead, not sure about the other…
Ah well. That makes travel complicated. But . . .
None of the founders is alive anymore.
If they did, I would love to know how they feel about the brand nowadays
My thought, exactly. I’m supposed to want to smell what dead people think Kyoto would have smelled like? I mean, Kyoto itself had many smells, some great and some not, but I’ve actually been there and even then I’m still reading it through a European lens. There also weren’t any roses while I was there, but plenty of plum blossoms.
Venise sounds lovely but probably overpriced.
Clearly I’m in a cynical mood tonight. 🙂
That can be helpful when confronted with new perfume temptations!
