Saturday is National Apricot Day, and we're celebrating with our same old open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite fragrance with an apricot note, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Thanks for so many positive comments about my daughter’s anxiety yesterday.♥️
I am off to get my first Covid vaccine shortly.??
No scent yet but will report back later on that.
Good luck with your ?
Yay vaccine!
Good luck with your vaccine!
Oh good for you.
Hooray for your vaccine!
Yay! ?
I am now doused in Absolute Aphrodisiac compliments of a generous NSTer♥️ and it is divine! Beautiful, spicy vanilla…very smooth smelling. Notes list leather which can be a tough note for me but I detect little to none.
Got my shot and no soreness yet but I took ibuprofen beforehand.??
Have a kitten on my lap and feeling incredibly grateful.?
Congrats all around!
This is all excellent!
Fantastic news! ?
So far, so good! Whoo hoo on not having any post-shot soreness!
Wonderful news! Enjoy your Sunday, She-Ra. ?
Yay! Pet the kitty for me… I miss having a cat.
Good for you! And a kitten in the lap is always a comfort.
My favorite jam is apricot jam and I love to add dried apricots to Jeweled Rice, a Persian rice dish that you can layer dried fruits and nuts.
I am still sampling Jo Malone , and today I am in Mimosa & Cardamom. This is a very happy, uplifting scent. It’s so beautiful. I am enjoying this very much.
Currently drinking my cheap tea celestial Bengal Spice, reading a young adult novel Six of Crows and wearing a thrift Weekend Maxmara sweater dress. My SOTD is blending nicely with this atmosphere.
Bengal Spice is my mid morning tea.
I loved the idea of Mimosa & Cardamom but it somehow didn’t work on me. However, I really like Bois Farine layered with Mimosa Pour Moi -this combo gives me what I wanted from M & C!
I really like Mimosa & Cardamom
It makes me feel happy ?
I have dried apricots on hand, so maybe I’ll give jeweled rice a try!
Oh, I think Bengal Spice is good. I’ve been enjoying it for elevenses at at work. It almost gets too Ferrara Pan Red Hots, but then its natural ingredient flavor makes the difference.
That’s my favorite jam, too! Love fresh apricots, love dried apricots (particularly the Bleinhem variety), and love apricot jam, especially if it shows up within the folds of a buttery flaky pastry……
Nom! Apricot pastries!
Mimosa & Cardamom is one of my favorites as well. I like wearing it in autumn though.
Do you layer it with anything or just on its own?
I really like Mimosa and Cardamom too, but I rarely reach for it. I wonder why?
It’s hitting the spot today
My friend and her husband have a small jam company, We Love Jam.
It started as a found fruit experiment and has grown slightly but still very small batch. Their Blenheim Apricot jam is positively the best apricot jam I’ve ever tasted. Check out their site for the story about Blenheim fruit, it’s fascinating.
Mimosa & Cardamom is probably the only Jo Malone that tempts me for a FB.
I can see why. It’s very cheerful and easy to wear
Celestial Seasonings makes quite a few really good teas that aren’t expensive at all. Raspberry Zinger is a current favorite of mine.
Sleepytime and ST Extra are quite nice at bedtime.
Clinks mug with you: another ST Extra fan here!
I’m in Maya Njie Vanilje from a newly purchased sample. I got a few samples in the mail yesterday from tigerlily. It was my first time purchasing from them and it came nicely packaged and I liked that they offered spray samples, but two of the sprayers are wonky and just leak. I promptly applied all 3 samples at once and a little while later my husband (unaware) was like “is it just me or does something stink?”? I literally laughed out loud. One of them is definitely a no-go, as shortly after that my daughter also asked “what’s that smell?”
Bummer on the bad sprayers! That’s always so frustrating. I order from Tigerlily frequently and haven’t had any busted sprayers, so I don’t think it’s a consistent issue with them.
What other samples did you get? Curious which one is the no go.
I ordered a couple from Heretic that I’ve been wanting to try. The no go was Smudge, which really is a great incense, just not one I can wear on skin. The other one was Scandalwood, which I instantly love and that one did get good reviews from the fam.?
LOL! We watched “Anchorman” last night, so “What’s that smell?” puts me in mind of Sex Panther this morning. 😀
Lol, it’s been ages since I’ve seen that movie.
Yes, please tell us which one was the stinker!
Haha, well my family thought it was.? Heretic Smudge, have you tried it? I kind of liked it but based on my family’s reaction, it’s probably not one I would wear. I’ll finish my sample when they’re not around.?
How do you like the Vanilj please? I have thought about seeking out a sample of that one.
I sent you an email.
I like it! I hope you get to try it soon.?
That is a lovely drawing!
Reminds me:
I once did a workshop botanical painting in our local botanical garden.
I had tons of fun but its not something i wanted to pursue ?
Its very slow paced, and you need to work hard and long on every detail. Mad respect for those who can pull it off. ?
I am wearing Anubis today.
Happy weekend everyone!
My Mom has been focusing on oil still life for several years now, taking classes at a studio that focuses on very traditional technique. It looks VERY tedious to me, too!
I used to think I would get into botanical illustration, as I’m a biologist and painter, but I’ve never taken classes, which I feel would be necessary in order to do it all justice! I can create a totally acceptable still life.
Opened a package that came in the mail a few days ago and it was a beautiful flacon of Nishane Nanshe, so obviously I’m giving it a try and it’s my SotD.
Gosh, it it lovely. Tart and zingy in the opening (bergamot, yuzu, cardamom), creamy-floral in the heart and woody-powdery in the base thanks to orris, sandalwood and musk.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend 🙂

Ooo, that sounds amazing. Added to the sample list!
Hope you like it once you try it.
Your photos are so lovely, lucasai.
Thank you 🙂
Now that I finally have an Instagram account, I can see your pics; they are gorgeous. Just spent a while scrolling through your posts!
Aww, thanks. I’d be happy if you followed me 🙂
I just followed you on IG!
Yay, thank you Nancy
Perfume companies should pay you to take pictures. You do such amazing work.
Haha! Recently someone asked if I’m a professional photographer. Of course I am not, but maybe if I can’t become a perfumer I could turn photography into a profession someday.
Seriously, lucasai, I just love your pictures!
Gorgeous picture, as usual! ?
Thank you darling
Wow, beautiful photo…makes me want to join Instagram….almost. 🙂 I am kind of down on social media. Except this blog. 😉 But I make allowances for perfume.
I have nearly no social media, but instagram has nearly got me a few times now! People I like seem to be doing interesting things there, but I really don’t need another time-suck in my life!
That sounds truly lovely! Off to search….
Homemade apricot pie (really just apricots baked on an oil crust – with only a sprinkling of sugar on top, no sugar otherwise) with yogurt is my favorite breakfast.
Just finished morning yoga. Fragrance will be Shiseido’s lovely and sadly discontinued Inoui for taking the tree down and packing up decorations. I’m still reading and enjoying The Brothers K by David James Duncan.
Happy Saturday!
I just took my tree down yesterday. Lots of needles to be swept up today! I’m a bit sad. That pie sounds scrumptious!
It *is* always a bit sad taking everything down. And our tree was particularly fresh and nice this year.
I have to take my tree down this weekend, too. The cat will miss napping under it, pretending he is a forest kitty.
My working from home desk is quite near the tree, so I got to pretend I was a forest nymph for a while. Sort of.
The kitty did not attack the tree?
Our tree is going down tomorrow. It would almost make it another week but we won’t chance it.
We took our tree down too
Busy weekend for me, so our tree and decorations will come down next weekend.
Bought a tree bag from Amazon for our artificial tree and it had a hole where the seam wasn’t sewn right out of the bag so it will be up until Tuesday at least when the replacement comes. 😉
Mmm, love apricot jam too, and fresh apricots, and dried apricots dipped in dark chocolate. But not sure I’d like an apricot perfume.
SoTD is No 19 EdP again, although it’s so cold here its chilly elegance seems wasted. I need a new perfume, or to get unstuck from the rut I’ve been wallowing in. Maybe when I get a vaccine (who knows? Massachusetts, home to so many top-tier hospitals and medical schools, is doing a terrible job with the roll out), I’ll go to a real store and sniff with abandon.
At least it’s sunny.
Osmanthus is in a lot of perfumes and I really like it, usually; it’s often said to smell like an apricot.
Good to know, Calypso. I’ll hunt some down. Thanks!
Hooray for sunshine! We finally have a sunny day too and I swear my mood improved by at least 800%.
I am really looking forward to real stores again. Man, I didn’t realize how much I love browsing!
Isn’t this a rather odd time of year for apricot day? Our apricot tree currently bears nothing but branches. (That pun would’ve worked better out loud.) I do love apricots, though, and I’ve got a bag of dried ones in the pantry for use in pilafs and chutneys and for stuffing in my face.
I’m a broken record and wearing TF Lost Cherry for about the fourth day in a row.
Freebie alert: Would anyone in the conUS like a travel spray + lotion of Madonna Truth or Dare? Please dibs here and send me an email at kobhatta at gmail.
But the pun works really well anyway! 😀
Thank you for being so indulgent 🙂
I think TF Lost Cherry is addicting!
Oh isn’t it?? Somehow it wasn’t for me last year, but this time around, it’s really got me in its grip. Someone mentioned that there’s a $75 travel spray, and that’s really tempting me, but I don’t know, $75 for a teeny little bottle??? I’ll have to think about it, but I’m really using up my decant quickly.
I know! I bought the travel spray and not sorry. It comes in a gorgeous red case with magnetized cap. It’s $$$$ anyway you look at it. But I am really enjoying it. (And Mr. SP likes it as well.)
I’m considering my options for when the spring Sephora sale rolls around.
Many of the “National Days” are weirdly timed.
Indeed. The episode of GBBO we watched this morning included a technical challenge for an apricot bread.
You smell great. I bought the travel spray of that one.
What I said … ?
I remember having a quick sniff of Lost Cherry when I met up with neyronose. Don’t remember what it smelled like at all, but I did a LOT of sniffing that day.
I like it. 🙂 I think you said that probably the reason your nose burned out fast was that you’d tried a fragrance on your wrist first thing. Meanwhile I was skipping around collecting smelling strips. I was relatively restrained that day, only getting a couple of solid perfumes and wash strips from LUSH. Later that week or month I ordered a number of samples and a couple of travel sprays. (lol)
I’d gotten a sample of Lost Cherry from one of those mail-order places, likely Surrender to Chance, and then I got a decant. I think the decant is from when hajusuuri said she’d send decants if people on NST donated what the cost would have been to food banks and such. I sent contributions to the local food pantry, which has been kept busy, a couple of months in a row in the summer. So win-win for everyone, plus great generosity from hajusuuri. Thank you! The local food pantry was thankful, too. They said they really appreciated the money, especially since there had been a higher demand than usual for their services in 2020. Mom and Dad usually make a donation to Philabundance (Philadelphia area), but I think they also sent a contribution to the local food pantry in 2020.
You are right… I sprayed on something that was the perfume equivalent of Velcro. I couldn’t even scrub it off with rubbing alcohol after I got home.
Did anyone dibs yet on the Truth or Dare? I must admit I have been curious about it.
I enjoyed wearing Lauren so much yesterday that I may wear it again today. In the interest of science, I pulled out my ancient bottle of Lauren from the 80’s (the 30ml dagger-style bottle), blew out half a dozen sprays into the sink, and then applied it on my other hand. The new bottle (batch code from May 2020) is a thinner scent but still not bad at all. The older bottle is a bit wonky at the open but better than the new stuff in the dry down. I’m pleased with both bottles 🙂
In other fascinating news, my package from Lush that left New York on Dec 23 has appeared in San Francisco… where it has been stuck for 2 days now. Wonder how long it will take to get from SF to me (a 1.5 hour drive).
Shipping has been quite the mess this year. I ordered a bracelet from Hawaii in May. I think USPS must have put it on a boat to the mainland, because it took over a week to turn up in LA, where it sat for days, then they shipped it to Newark, just because (I live on the West Coast). I figured maybe they had to send it by way of Ottawa or something, but no, it next turned up in Calgary before being delivered weeks later.
The Canadian services are as bad or worse, not so much for things travelling around the country but for them not turning up in tracking and taking weeks to arrive when being shipped from the next province over. The glories of COVID!
i have had experience like that with USPS over the years, not just this past year. I remember once when I was in college back in the 1980’s, my mom sent me a package that took 17 days to cover the ~220 miles from my parents’ house to my dorm. A person traveling on foot could have walked the distance in less time than that.
COVID has done interesting things with the mail. Our family exchanged USPS packages between Utah and Indiana, and each languished at a distribution center in Iowa for about a week. Then my east-bound package went through Indiana to Ohio, then back to an Indiana distribution center, then to the “annex” of the same distribution center, finally getting to a local distribution center and then to my post office – whew. Also, none of that showed up on the tracking until a few days before the delivery. I was not too worried nor at all mad. But I was curious about the logistics. I’d guess they were getting paid opportunities to help the premium shippers, so good ol’ parcel post got shelved – hope it pays off for all the USPS workers!!
I’m always happy to hear about old favorites that are still acceptable in their newer form – since that’s what is now available.
The current version of Lauren is definitely simpler than the original, but it’s still a mighty unique scent compared to modern mall frags.
Curiously, the current version of Lauren appears to only be available at Macy’s. Odd! Well Fragrancenet has it too, but it’s more expensive there than Macy’s. Odder!
Just like the discounted Chanels there are more expensive than retail despite the yuge “savings”…
I sent a friend in Maryland a package on 16 Dec. It got to her city…yesterday. I am still hopeful that she will get it sometime this week.
Lauren!! I may need to seek out a sniff for the sense memory of high school!! I remember thinking is was so classy.
I was thinking of placing a Lush order – I guess I shouldn’t expect it to arrive too quickly!
I have heard that some of the issues with USPS is the extra work from FedEx and UPS handing off to post office, since those companies became overwhelmed. Not sure, but a friend in the P.O. said the volume has been much bigger from other shippers.
I’ve noticed all the delivery services are out and about in my neighborhood much later than they used to be. I’ll bet their schedules are jam-packed.
Pixel’s FREEBIES! NST regulars only, US only, ping me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of gee-mayle.
1. Demeter Gingerbread hand sanitizer (100ml) and splash cologne (15ml), both unused. C’mon, surely someone wants to smell like gingerbread…
2. Or perhaps you want to smell like booze. Demeter Mojito (30ml) and Caipirinha (30ml) spray colognes, sprayed a few times.
3. Or, maybe neroli is your thing. Zara x Jo Loves Amalfi Sunray rollerball, 10ml, tried once many months ago.
Ooh, may I please dibs #3? Will email now.
I will did on the Demeter gingerbread. Will email later after work.
In Luminous Lemurs, an impetuous wine-inspired blind buy that paid off.
Last night I enjoyed Les Indemodable Iris Perle from my new decant. Really good.
I ordered some fish for delivery from a local purveyor who delivers to your house. Heard about it from neighbor. Getting some sushi-grade salmon and miso-glazed black cod. It’s going to be a fish-focused weekend! I’ll report back after I eat some.
We’re resuming our family Zoom this Sunday. We took a break from regular sessions over the holidays.
My Mom (nurse) was having some symptoms Thursday and yesterday. That was a not-fun text to get yesterday. She got a COVID test yesterday and will hopefully get results today. This morning she texted she’s feeling a bit better and is doubtful she has it. Certainly hoping so. She’s scheduled for 2nd vaccine dose on Monday.
Fingers crossed for your mom!
Hope all turns out well for your mom!
Well shoot. Let us know how the test comes out!
Hope it comes out negative!
Fingers and toes crossed for your mom. Your fish delivery sounds amazing!
The best for your mom!
You smell great. Iris Perle is beautiful and I find that to be a well done line. Sending best wishes and luck for your mom!
Oy! I hope it comes out negative? I wonder what the protocols are for people who do end up testing positive after the first dose?
I hope I won’t be able to answer that, but it’s an interesting question. I can’t imagine you’d proceed with the second dose if you’re actively fighting off that same virus… ?♀️
Not sure this answers all the questions, but it has happened: https://abcnews.go.com/Health/nurse-tests-positive-covid-19-shortly-vaccinated/story?id=74947995
Fingers crossed for your mom.
Thanks for the article link. Wish they’d told us more details! Given all the health care workers getting vaccinated, you figure this does have to happen to some.
Luckily my Mom tested negative!
Miss G, that’s wonderful to hear!
Luminous Lemurs?! I studied Lemurs in Madagascar for a while. I love them all. Strange name for a fragrance, though. I would want it to smell like vanilla (Madagascar is famous for it), a little barnyard musk, maybe some vetiver or other green notes. Oh, and to be luminous, add a touch of bright, tropical flowers.
Fingers crossed for your mom!
It definitely has vanilla. I bought it after reading this Fragrantica article: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Luminous-Lemurs-A-New-Eco-Perfume-to-Help-Save-Habitats-14236.html
It’s very, very good, but also very expensive, which I justified by the use of antique materials and some proceeds going to the lemurs.
Thanks for the well wishes for my mom. She tested negative. Phew!
Great news for your mom!
Oh good.
The mention of it in this article is actually what interested me in Luminous Lemurs, then I read the other one: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/FRAGRANTICA-Editors-Favorite-Perfumes-of-2020-14441.html His description is much more nuanced than I could ever manage.
WOW! That sounds incredible. You blind-bought a bottle after reading that?
I will neither confirm nor deny that wine may have been involved. I bought the smallest decant. It paid off though! Very lovely, no regrets.
I just looked up the perfumer, Velvet and Sweet Pea, and the full sample set is $75?! 3 vials for $28. Can anyone speak to if there’s other wonderful scents from this house that MUST be tried?
MGs, ha! I love anything spicey and warm, and the blood orange/ylang combo sounds awfully nice! If I can decide about samples, I think I see myself giving some a try. 🙂
Hoping that you have good news about your mom!
Yowza! Fingers crossed for your mom.
Good luck to your mom! ???
Still wearing the remnants of yesterday’s Aromatics Elixir, which in its chameleonic way offered me a new note yesterday: soap. What a strange brew it is.
I had apricot jam on my toast this morning. My parents used to tell a story of my (much older) cousins expressing astonishment as baby me gulped down spoon after spoon of babyfood apricots. I haven’t had a good fresh apricot in years, but it remains my favorite jam/preserves flavor (with bitter orange marmalade sometimes tied).
Apricot jam and bitter orange marmalade — both delicious.
Apricot jam is a staple for me, I am telling you have back up jars in the closet.
Living the good life! (Also am totally envious of your thrift store finds.)
I love the hunt in thrift stores
I got a long-awaited package from Luckyscent yesterday (yay, Azemour!), and have been working through the samples. I hadn’t tried any of the Zoologist line, so I’d requested Camel and they also threw in Elephant, so yesterday afternoon / evening was my date with Zoologist. Both nicely done scents, but I’m not yet convinced that I need a bottle of either — will see if they grow on me.
SOTD will probably be the two CdG Incense samples I got (Zagorsk & Jaisalmer), testing against the ones I have.
Jaisalmer is a favorite of mine – I find it very calming.
Yes — I liked Jaisalmer a lot. Zagorsk was interesting in the opening but then faded to nothingness almost immediately. I even reapplied about 5 minutes later…same thing.
Yay to Azemour! I also have this coming on the way.
How was the lasting power of those Zoologist perfumes on you?
I’ve only tried them once so far, but they lasted a couple hours each, I’d say. It’s hard to say, as they’re not in spray bottles.
That’s not much different from me, then. I get about 4 hours if I am really lucky.
Today I’m wearing Fou d’Absinthe, from a sample.
How are you liking it? I have a sample around here somewhere but don’t think I’ve gotten to it.
Trsting Diptyque Eau Rose today. Yay for sunshine and no more fog!
Enjoy the sun!
That one is perfect for a sunny day. You smell great!
Chanel No19 today for a lazy day I spent cooking and playing with my make-up.
I made a lentil salad with tuna, salt lemon and baharat and linguine with mussels and tomatoes.
Eyeshadows were Tartelette in Bloom. Looked quite nice.
Wow, can I come over to sample that menu
You would be welcome…
I love the “In Bloom” palette! Gorgeous colors.
I’ve jotted down that lentil salad to try this coming week. I love Baharat seasoning, so thank you for the inspiration! ?
I’m having a very excellent day. It snowed last night, so this morning I got to watch my dog encounter snow for the first time ever. She was so confused/ intrigued/ excited/ overjoyed that it really made me happy.
Later my husband was poking around in his travel toiletries bag (why? We’re not going anywhere.) and found the decant of SSS’s Incense Pure that I bought from a split and that had gotten misplaced when we moved. So I’m wearing the perfect perfume for a cold sunny day.
Have a fabulous Saturday!
First snowfall for dogs is fun. I grew up w/ a rescued beagle/shepherd mix named Tootsie from the North Shore Animal League and can still see her little black and tan body as she explored her first snow.♥️
Hooray for your found ferfect fragrance!
I love it when I find fragrances
Incense Pure is a fantastic pick for snowy winter weather!
How fun! I remember my cats’ reaction to snow for the first time and it was not joy, more like pure horror. LOL.
Yay for finding Incense Pure, I love that one.
National Apricot Day is just right for my part of the world, we’re right in the midst of summer fruit season. We have apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums in a big bowl in the kitchen. I always buy too much and then we have to eat fast before the fruit rots. Having to eat lots of nectarines is not a bad problem to have 🙂
I don’t have much in the way of fruity perfumes, but I do have Plum, so that will be the choice for today.
In other news, we have adopted two cats. We have a two and a half year old female, and a male of about 18 months. We went to the SPCA and spent ages deciding between several very similar looking cats, but eventually a couple singled themselves out as more affectionate.
Phaedra and Deuc (short for Deucalion) are settling in. There is no lasting damage so far, but I got no sleep the first night, they charged around the house all night knocking things of bookcases and window sills, but things were a lot quieter last night.
Congratulations on the kitties! Our shelter kitty brings us so much joy (and he made me stop working this morning and play with him, so he is a good enforcer of work/life balance).
Congrats on the new additions to your family!
Yay and congrats for new cats! We adopted two kittens 3 weeks ago and not much sleep was had the first night either. ehaeheh My daughter said the other day…”the kittens bring me joy”♥️ that they do.
Kitties!! ?. The cat currently snoozing on my lap sends congratulations on the new additions to your household.
Enjoy your kitties!
Have fun with the kitties! I ??
Congrats on the new cats! ?
Huzzah for the new kitties! ??
ConCATulations!
Never a problem to have too much fresh fruit around! Yum yum! I’m so excited about your new cats! Are they friends with one another? What do they look like? So happy for them and for you!
A cold, clear day here and I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas. Watched the Linda Ronstadt documentary on PBS and now I am wondering why I don’t have any of her music–oh, right, it was all on vinyl that I disposed of 30 years ago during one of my moves.
Love Linda! I have a couple CDs, but those are old school now, too.
Hmmm.. not heard of this artist. Tell me what I should listen to
Heart Like A Wheel
…the whole album. If you like that I have lots more suggestions.
Really? Let’s start some time near the beginning…
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PO5lq9n6C98
Great documentary btw!
Blue Bayou is very lovely!
That was a great documentary. I have several of her albums on CD. Incredible voice.
SOTD is Ambre Narguile. Might have picked something else if I knew it was apricot day but I’m plenty content in this!
I have a project this weekend to take apart some old rollerballs to turn them into room sprays. Hoping to not make a mess.
SOTD is CSP Abricot Vanille – very comforting. I love Apricot jam too.
Question about TDC Bois d’Iris – I’m continuing a deep iris/orris dive and wondering if what others experience is of this fragrance, especially the top note. It almost smells as if the bottle I have has gone off but fairly quickly morphs into the expected woody iris. Maybe the Vetiver?
I just spritzed to check – and had a look at the notes on Fragrantica. So, what I get immediately is a very root-ey earthy iris (and I think geranium). Not much Vetiver for me at the beginning. Dunno if that’s helpful!
Thank you so much for checking. Is it short lived on you? After the strong beginning I like the dry down but then it almost disappears.
Yeah, I have this and Sel de Vetiver in these refill bottles that once went on sale. Wish now I had bought the bergamot and osmanthus too cos the price was really good but back then ‘pretty’ bored me ?
TDC scents – well this original range anyway – are legendary in being short-lived and having little sillage. The dry down is a very nice skin scent that might last a couple of hours (like maybe 2 or 3) I haven’t worn it straight for quite a long time but layered it with L’Heure Bleu last week and quite enjoyed that…
Ah, mystery solved. I love your layering idea and always enjoy hearing what you’ve put together.
Glad I could help – and thanks for prompting me to spray it – I had forgotten quite how lovely the dry down is ?
Quick update: I just confirmed, with someone at Nordstrom, very knowledgeable about fragrance, that my bottle of Bois d’Iris is in fact rancid. Must have been heat damaged at some point. Now to see what can be done…
In the meantime, I wish I had never smelled La Pausa. So good. Must avert my glance (and sniff).
Wearing vintage Diorissimo. Wow, this is glorious!
My twin nieces turn 1 year old today. So, so happy!!! ?. As “covid babies” (the way my sister call them today), they have not been able to meet and interact with other kids yet, and who knows when. So they will not have a physical kids party. Instead, their parents’ friends and family with children will join them on Zoom later this afternoon to celebrate. We will meet them tonight for dinner. We are so thankful that despite the circumstances they are happy, healthy girls who have brought joy to our lives. That’s the main reason for celebration.
Quiet and relaxing day tomorrow. I hope to rest after an insane work day yesterday and a week that will not be different.
Happy weekend, everyone! ?
Happy Birthday to the twins!
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
Aww.. Happy Birthday to the little one’s!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
Oh how sweet, happy birthday to them 🙂
Thank you, Koyel! ?
Happy Birthday wishes to your sweet little nieces! ??
Thank you, Jalapeno! ?
You smell wonderful and happy birthday to the twins!
Thank you! ?
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Tyger Tyger
jiji’s comment yesterday prompted me to wear it today. On me, it is sweetish woody powdery resinous leather with some florals – very nice. I have to say the initial spraying (and yes, still 8 sprays) did not wow me, but it rather quickly moved into the Do I need a FB territory? I currently have a partial bottle.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ1lRRRh56U/?igshid=slohkqr5a7v4
Off to run some errands!
You smell great! ?
I agree with you…the best phase is not the opening. But i think the rest is fab!
Thanks for mentioning it or it may have languished.
Chilly and windy day to be running errands! Brrrrrrrrrr!
I think I’ll try Tyger Tyger tomorrow. It’s one of the samples I ordered from Indigo recently.
Why do so many “suede” fragrances have apricot in them?
Watching my local Bills battle the Colts in the playoffs!
Confessing to Donatella today:
Corsica Furiosa from Beautyhabit (with a coupon)
P. Generale L’eau Rare Matale from Luckyscent’s sale section
P. Generale Vetiver Matale from Osswald’s sale section
I don’t even want to add up the total! About 350 bucks? I’ve been very good up until now!
Congrats! I had my head down on that last play. One of my dear friends is a big Bills fan.
Enjoy the ?
Aren’t you the wonderful person who sent me some Vetiver Matale years ago? What a gorgeous scent! Your confessions sound very judicious 🙂
Finally got around to a SOTD. Doused myself heavily in a sample of SSS Bee’s Bliss. The sun is shining, it’s 35 degrees F outside, but I can live in the illusion of approaching spring for a few hours!
Ohh Bee Bliss is pure beauty! A touch of sunlight! Enjoy it.
It’s true! I’m really enjoying it.
I bought the 34mL bottle the moment the shop re-opened.
I think I’m going to end up with one soon, too. 😀
You smelled great today, and I also enjoyed a break from the rain today with a period of sun in Seattle.
We ended up taking a walk around the river during a break in the clouds. It felt so good to get some sunshine in my eyes!
I’m one of those who mostly uses my Fitbit to track my sleep. Sleep scores this past week were mostly in mid 80s, so very good. Last night was 44. I didn’t go to bed early enough and was very restless. I got up and read for over an hour in the wee hours and then snatched an hour of sleep before having to get up at 6:15 for a Zoom thing at 6:45. I managed to stay awake till 11 am and then took a two-hour nap.
The good news is I got the first of two Shingles shots yesterday. I was warned I might experience some flu-like symptoms. Nope. Just a bit of soreness in the arm.
SSS Winter Woods…just a spritz and a half because this can overwhelm me. .
That’s excellent news. I did not feel well at all after my shingles shot. Good for you! (And you also smell great!)
I didn’t either, springpansy, and the second shot was worse than the first. I’m glad I’m finished with them, and grateful they were available.
What are you reading
Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz. I had already listened to Magpie Murders and this came available to download from library, just as I was finishing a book by Yrsa Sigurdadottir. It’s rather fun as book within a book.
Ripe apricots grown in Provence are delicious, favorite apricot perfume is Asja.
Wearing Crêpe de Chine edt.
A truly ripe apricot seems to be a rare delicacy here. I haven’t come across any really good ones in the grocery stores for quite a while.
The fresh apricots show up at the local grocery stores here (in southeastern Pennsylvania) in late spring/early summer. But I have canned and dried apricots. I’ll celebrate the last few minutes of apricot day with canned apricots. lol
I’ve just had terrible luck with apricots in the last few years. Peaches, on the other hand, were spectacular last summer.
I encounter the same problem in London, they are of the ‘ripen at home’ variety and never as good as the picked ripe I get in Provence.
I’ve also had wonderful apricots in both Greece and Turkey. They’re just growing around everywhere on the trees there and you can pick some if you like. Tastes great with ouzo!
Addictive apricot: The first half of Cuir Intense in Guerlain’s Absolue d’Orient series. It’s quite a brutal leather fragrance, boosted by that strong jammy woody amber that some fragrances in that line are based on, but the dried abricot accord is really delicious.
Oh, andast week I found something I’d forgotten in the back of a cupboard: a package of pure dried Osmanthus flowers for preparing infisions that I’d bought in Hong Kong in 2018. God, that flower smells so beautifully of fresh apricot…
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this to try!
The fragrance or osmathus? I’m not 100% sure but I think I bought it at the Flagstaff House (museum of tea with shop and tea house). The Absolus d’Orient are quite widely available where I am, though often not the full line, which includes some pretty awful and some pretty amazing fragrances.
SOTD was/is TF Violet Blonde for a lazy Saturday. Got a haircut, had bagels with cream cheese and salmon, and did a couple of crossword puzzles with Mr. G. Currently sitting in my reading chair, sipping tea and contemplating the universe. It’s still there (the universe, I mean), in case anybody’s wondering.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you MossyBerry!
I’m glad to hear the universe is still kicking around!
Exactly – lately I’ve been feeling like I have to check on it frequently! ?
It’s about time I got another haircut. Just haven’t had enough energy to make the appointment recently.
I’m hopelessly addicted to haircuts – I usually have my next 3 appointments scheduled at all times because my hair is fairly thick and it grows really fast, but unevenly, and it’s cut in a layered bob. If things had gone on much longer I was going to either let it grow it out and put it in a ponytail, or shave my head. Mr. G didn’t like that second option much, but he was all over the first. ?
I know it’s time for me to make an appointment when my hair starts tangling over the course of a day. That usually means my layers have grown out.
Layered bobs are so cute, and yet require so much maintenance. I had one for a few years, but don’t really have the ideal hair for it. No thick head of hair, here. Apparently I have a lot of hair, it’s just very, very fine.
I’m guessing it’s been 18 months since I’ve cut it? Just do a top knot every day. Easy, peasy.
Our salons are all closed… I’m seriously contemplating the head shaving option.
I was growing out a pixie cut when the salons closed in March. My solution was to wear a hat until August.
I was supposed to have one in mid-October but couldn’t get a first appointment. Then I was trying to weigh my COVID-risk points in preparation for seeing family for Thanksgiving. That got derailed by the need to have my car inspected (which I did the day before Thanksgiving to avoid any post-Thanksgiving virus surge). Then I prepared for Christmas … and now the virus is circulating more widely again and I am just avoiding close personal contact. In the meantime, I’ve already had to selfie-cut my bangs twice and today or tomorrow will be the third time.
I feel your pain. I guess I’m fortunate that my salon is hyper-vigilant about everything – goes without saying that masks are required at all times, and there’s even a door monitor guy who takes one’s temperature and then sends one into the ladies’ room to wash one’s hands before entering. And of course everything gets sanitized between every use. They even found a way for customers to not have to sign anything for credit card use. I feel quite safe there.
That sounds a lot like what the place I go to does. I’ve noticed that there is a lot more distancing between stylist stations, too, in addition to all their other precautions.
I’m pretty sure my whole city received their stimulus checks over the last few days. It has been insane busy! For anyone who feels guilty for buying perfume.. don’t! You should see the crap that people who don’t love perfume buy! LOL..
I wore No.19 Poudre today, for a cold sunny day.
I hope it calms down soon!
Thanks! I’m so tired, I’m about to leave the couch and go to bed.
I got some quiet amusement from your comment about what people who don’t love perfume buy! ? Not sure I want to know exact details…
Today was so nuts, I felt like people were just grabbing whatever they could just to buy something. It looks like some people are redecorating and others are getting whole new wardrobes.
It seems that redecorating is now a “New Year’s” thing. I’ve noticed a bunch of articles about it online in the past week or so.
I wonder if they are aware of the Pantone colors for 2021 ?
*Chortle*
I’ve wondered: are the stimulus checks for literally stimulating the economy or is it to supplement for bills that people are having a hard time keeping up with?
I think it was supposed to be to help with bills/rent. . Which is what I’m using mine for. From what I see though, a good amount is going towards the economy which is good. It keeps me working.
I used mine towards a credit card bill, paid my cell phone and used the rest for food.
Good budgeting!
Either way it looks like it’s used for a favorable outcome!
Dpent the morning doused in no 22 while trying to schedule a CT scan. My doctor called while I was at work yesterday evening. Some kind of nodules or cysts showed up on my lungs. She said that it’s most likely just some cysts but she wants to take a closer look. After that and took my shower, I have been commando ever since. Got the appointment set up for Friday. Jake is doing good but it’s hard keeping him quiet. Both Jake and Sydney want to rough house but not with his neck wound.
I hope the CT scan shows there is nothing serious. My mother has and has had many cysts on her lungs for years and they get checked every year. So far everything has been fine.
Sending you positive vibes!
Sending you positive vibes. Also glad that Jake made it home fine!
Sending you good thoughts for the CT scan!
Fingers crossed for you.
The best of luck with the scan!
Sending more good wishes.
Good luck with the scan!
Also sending good luck for the scan!
???
We always have dried apricots on hand. Most weekends we eat yogurt and granola with chopped up dried apricots, apple, and banana for breakfast. My boyfriend also uses it in one of our go-to crock pot meals, which is chicken breast, canned Rogan Josh sauce, dried apricots, chickpeas, and green pepper served over turmeric basmati rice and topped with chopped, toasted almonds.
In the process of yet another car insurance claim as my car is about to be totaled due to flooding damage. Sigh. I kind of can’t believe it after it was almost totaled this summer due to vandalism. I will be car free for a while as we still don’t have any plans to back to working at the office anytime soon, and I can get almost everything I need in my neighborhood. It’s still not fun to lose a car with only 80,000 miles, but it is an older car.
I’ve finally started trying the samples I got from Indigo a couple weeks ago. First up is Les Indemodables Musc des Sables. It’s really nice and smells expensive. Longevity isn’t amazing, but I only used two small sprays. It’s a classy, powdery orris, benzoin, spices, and musk blend. I’ll spray more next time.
And in case anyone wants to sample the Les Indemodables line but doesn’t want to spend as much as the official discovery set, Indigo sells a 7 piece set of 1ml spray samples for $28. Mine came with a $10 coupon redeemable for a bottle from the line.
Sorry about your car, that sucks.
There’s someone on the bay selling Les Indemodables decants, if you decide you need some and don’t want to go FB. I got Musc des Sables and Iris Perle. To my nose, they match my samples (which I got from Indigo).
Ahh yes, I had remembered seeing your post about that so went hunting on eBay last night. I’ve added those to my watchlist, as I highly doubt I’ll be persuaded by these perfumes enough to shell out for a full bottle. I think those eBay decants are very reasonably priced and housed in nice bottles.
I’m sorry about your car.
Thanks, lillyjo.
Wow, you have had the worst car luck! That stinks.
Sure have! I am actually looking forward to being without a car for a little while.
How sad about your car. 🙁
My favourite Les Indémodables is Vanille Havane.
Ahh, and Vanille Havane is the only one not included in my sample set, other than those two cheaper colognes (Escales). Indigo still doesn’t have it for some reason. I’ll get a sample next time I place a Luckyscent order.
That poor car! And poor you, going through that aggro again.
Hello! I continued my Guerlain kick with Baiser de Russie, which was apparently originally named Moscow? The new name makes it sound older. (lol) I think I saw “very sweet” in a review, so you could guess that I liked it. 😀 This morning — I think? The days are kind of blurring — I tried Liu, which is a reissue of a perfume from the 1950s, apparently. I liked that, too.
Maybe they are trying to make it sound more of a classic with the new name. Moscow does sound more modern!
Santal Kardamon on a chilly day today. We might get snow tomorrow evening, but it’s supposed to rain all day. I’ll just drink hot tea and snuggle with the pupster. ?❤️
Puppy snuggles are the best. 🙂
Thanks all for the good wishes for my Mom. She tested negative. Yay! She isn’t working this weekend and gets her next vaccine shot Monday.
Fantastic news!
That’s wonderful!
Yay!
Yay!!! Great news.
Great news!
Great news!
yay…that is great news!
Super news!
Excellent news!
Yay – so glad!
Terrific!
I added some minced dried apricots into gluten free cookie dough, a day late but not a dollar short. My scent is from a sample of Oxford Blue English Sunday, a very classic cologne.
Okay, I have a weekend poll question for you all: If you have one, what’s your most regretted perfume purchase of 2020?
I was reminded of mine last night by Nancyleandros’s post: Santal Kardamon. It was an impulsive FB blind buy when I caught the bottle on sale. Even on sale, still expensive. Based on the listed notes, it should be a love. Alas, something doesn’t agree with my nose.
Every time I read of someone wearing or loving it, I think, “I should give it another go. Maybe it wasn’t the right time of year. Maybe I should apply more/less.”
Tried again last night. Big “Nope!” Time to throw in the towel.
Mine was vintage Patou Sublime. It’s being rehomed to SmokeyToes. I am not a big fan of Santal Kardamom either, even though the notes sound great.
I am going to think about this more, but dollar-wise, I’d say my blind buy of Patou’s Ma Liberte. Around $100, I don’t think it is turned, but it is the kind of lavender-forward perfume that I do not like. I tried it twice and got only wood (cedar) and medicinal lavender: no spices, no rose. I have not given up, but it went right to back of cabinet. Sadly shortly afterward, I got a vintage ’80’s lot of samples and there was a mini of it among them!
Aww bummer about the scent, that one sounds delicious.
Omega, if you are patient, I would love to share a sample. Email me at kclberry scape of net . netty. I could do another one if anyone else is curious – would love to hear your opinions, especially.
I’ve realised that notes don’t really tell me that much about how a fragrance will smell – it’s counter-intuitive – but somehow true. ??♀️ Iv done blind buys based on notes and some have been successful but it’s really a toss up!
A few scents have turned out less loved than expected but the only total total loss were some relative cheapies – 3 Jeanne Arthes perfumes that I bought just before the total lockdown we had in March. I was pretty surprised to Really like ONE Jeanne Arthes and then bought another 3. Iv given one away and will probably give the other 2 away too. Panic purchases!
The notes of SK sounded great to me too and the bottle is beautiful, but I did not take the plunge so thank you for your report. I did see if I could sample it at our little Macy’s (HA!), which sadly is going out of business this spring after all!! I like much about our small town, but The Mall Experience is not in the offering.
I used to love shopping at Macy’s. Many, many moons ago. For years now, though, it’s just felt very sad. Shopping there is a bit depressing. This may not be the case at every Macy’s, but it is for my local ones. Same with the local old-school indoor mall. I know this all predated the pandemic, don’t know how they’re going to survive it.
Yes, same here. When I read old stories of department stores back in their heyday, Marshall Fields, Frederick & Nelson, I. Magnin- so many more, I feel nostalgic for the way they used to be.
I may have ranted about this before, but local representatives of Macy’s actually admitted that our store was the, I forget which, “B” or “C” store, which gets all the stuff that does not sell in the big stores, probably Chicago, Indianapolis and/or Louisville in our region. That’s not all bad but still shows they were hedging all along.
That’s a good question. I’m sure there is more than one as hindsight is so much clearer…possibly the bottle of SL 5o’clock au Gingembre. I do like it and it was a great price but it’s not a top ten love and I am really trying hard to just buy what I really, really love.
I was trying hard to do a no-buy last year, but an ill-advised Fragnet order got me. My most regretted purchase is a toss up between Shalimar Cologne and a little bottle of Moschino Funny!
Now the all time worst blind buy for me was Kenzo Elephant….shudder…
I’m trying Orange in Chestnut today from Scents of Wood, thanks to the generosity of hajusuuri. It’s really nice, and goes perfectly with the blood orange/ herbal scent of the Aesop body oil I applied after my bath. I wish I could say I did that on purpose, but it was a happy accident.
Yay, accidental layering that worked!
Wearing JM Myrrh & Tonka today. Somehow I managed to misplace the dog’s sweater, it’s got to be here somewhere but I can’t figure out where. Will be going out to get her a new one today, she is cold and sitting on the heater vent.
House twins.
I should try the one you are wearing .
How strong is it?
Your dog can have one of my many sweaters…I can just do a few alterations
To me it’s pretty potent for a Jo Malone, but not obnoxiously so. Thanks for the sweater offer, she’s a tiny thing and can probably fir inside one sleeve. 😉
You smell nice but oh poor puppy!
JM Basil & Neroli
Making fennel & artichoke tagine
Listening to the oud while I cut leeks and fennel
It’s a nice mood in my kitchen
That is a nice mood picture – the oud and the fennel – very nice! I love artichokes and if I think about the word, I get a very strong taste memory of them. “Okra” has the same effect, but I am having some in vegetable soup today so it won’t have to be a memory. Hope the rest of your day is as happy, LTSG!
Do certain notes smell somehow ‘sweaty’ to others? I have no idea why but some presentations of geranium do this, and sometimes Patchouli. I have Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon that I seldom wear because of this. Another is Etro’s Patchouli. Even my adored Javanese Patchouli has inexplicably takes on this aspect to me?
I’ve never run into that … but then, cumin (as a perfume note) never reads as sweaty to me either, and I know it does to many, so I might not be the ideal person to respond to your question. 🙂
I’v just looked at a list of scents with cumin in and of the ones I have smelled, none registered as sweat to me! I have Fougere Bengale which is quite heavy on immortelle and a friend told me its how someone smells the day after they eat curry 😮 Another I need to take care with is Piguet’s Oud. One person mentioned it also could smell that way. Not at all to me though!
I have to say that I do not like some of the more ‘authentic’ Arabian ouds – I do smell something foul in some of those. Also classical scents with civet notes – I have Jicky edt but it’s riiiight in the back somewhere. Actually I wear it with Khiel’s original musk which cleans it up (for me)- though some find the Khiel’s to be dirty too!
The dry down of the original Polo was the most stinky sweat smell I could imagine. I can’t think of anything that would come close. I was not interested in perfume back then, but so many guys I knew wore that and I did not know why, except that they wanted to be cool. I would like to smell it again, just to see if I could break it down. I think that certain types of vetiver, pine, and/or artemisia register as stale sweat to me, though I have found some vetivers I love. Also, pine that does not seem sweaty turns to Yankee Candle Store mash-up, which is just as bad.
Oh, and as for patchouli, although I find it sometimes too flamboyant, I don’t get BO from it; to me it smells like wilted, rotting herbs at it worst, and flowery and sweet at its best.
I tried Lutens Musc KK at a shop once and forgot about it. As i was driving home I remember stopping at a traffic light and this mortified thought occurred to me: WHEN LAST DID I SHOWER?! ?
And both Vetiver and pine smell generally clean to me. Except just maybe Sel de Vetiver from TDC. The salt note does sometimes make it a bit sweaty to me ? Now I’m wondering about Dior’s Vetiver which I wasn’t happy in during my last wear (but I think I just over-applied). Both Guerlain Vetiver and Encre Noire are clean to me. For me Lush’s Dirty is Very clean (and apparently the name was meant to be ironic) but Iv heard people saying it smells dirty to them ?
? Well, at least you could blame it on the MKK!
Cumin always smells sweaty to me, which has kept me from wearing many fragrances I would otherwise have loved. SL Fleurs d’Oranger, for instance. I could never understand why he would ruin a gorgeous orange blossom with cumin, lol!
Grapefruit sometimes smells sweaty to me, too. I get that rather than the pee-like note. Since grapefruit is often combined with vetiver, perhaps this is why some people get sweat from vetiver. ?
That was a special Un-showered smell ? Yikes!
I didn’t like Fleurs d’oranger either – maybe it was the cumin cos I later discovered I like honeyed orange blossom. But FdO had a huskiness I disliked which may have been cumin.
Pamplelune has the most lovely fresh smell to me. I cannot bring my mind round to the fact that some smell sweat or pee. And it’s too bad I sometimes wear it when I want to smell especially fresh ? I could be shooting my self in the foot!
Ewww – grapefruit: yes! That is a stinky-sweat note on me. It *almost* killed Coco Noir for me.
Merlin, I couldn’t add to the reply chain, so this is for you:
I know how you feel about the grapefruit, but I’m sure you rocking! I used to be worried about the honey note in Lune de Miel, but I wore it anyway! ?
AnnE, I’m just looking up Lune de Miel and it sounds gorgeous!
Sweaty besides cumin: ambrette seed or whatever was in Chanel No.18 EDT. Also, something in Le Labo Rose 31 makes me think of sweaty socks cured in the sun inside a plastic bag.
That sock image – ew!
Seems some scents that are really clean to me have ambrette seed like Iris de Nuit – but then so does MKK and some fairly foul ones. Even Jo Malone’s Sea Salt which I pretty much can’t smell at all has it ?
Blech!
For some reason, that makes me want to sample rose 31 again lol..intrigued
Not so much certain notes, but definitely certain perfumes are sweaty to me. MKK smelled like sweaty horse + sweaty human. And not fresh sweat either.
Seems MKK is a known offender ? And yet…some love it!
Yuzu Fou has a cumin note that just sent me out of my gourd. I’m fine with Rose 31, Salome is lovely on me, but Yuzu Fou was really rank. Straight up BO.
I really wanted to love it as I generally love citrus and it was one of the last Parfum d’Empires available here – but…just too bitter…
That is disappointing. I noticed your comment about Pamplelune, and I feel the same. I love the pungent, fresh quirkiness of it.
We can start a Pamplelune lovers club!
SotD Amouage Opus III and my violet and yellow floral loving heart is in a swoon. The kind of blind buy, even with careful reading of many reviews and a Frag’net 35%, that, successful this time, could still lead me to a mistake like the Ma Liberte discussed in MissGoldsmith’s poll above. 😐
My successful blind buy this year was L’Artisan’s Violaceum. I’m just thinking about positive reinforcement that even when intermittent makes one more likely to repeat the behaviour. Oy!
Oh, I know! And after the SK fall, I still did several blind buys, the most expensive of which was also the most successful: Chanel Le Lion. So I haven’t cured myself of the urge to blind buy gamble, as much as I keep telling myself, “Never again.”
I actually think of all the scents I’v bought on the basis of a dabber 1ml sample and I have about the same chances as I do on a blind buy 😀 That being said I have found that the 1mls don’t evaporate, whereas the spray samples do…
Oh! And I’m so glad you love Le Lion. I hope you can resell SK without taking too much of a loss!
Yep. I don’t buy lottery tickets or gamble, but I’ve faced up to the fact that perfume blind buys are in that family of thrill-seeking.
Blind buying Amouage is living on the edge to me but that might depend on how much success you have had with the brand ?
Wow, blind buying an Amouage is definitely rolling the perfumed dice.
Wearing Jaisalmer on left arm and Kyoto on the right – just a small spritz of each from decants. Trying to see if I have a favorite. Interestingly, they are not bad together. Kyoto is winning by a very slight margin at the moment but I like them both.
For incense I think my favourite might be Casbah – though it leans masculine. It has angelica in it which is lovely and its performance is excellent.
I do have 3 of the CDG incense range and now I’m thinking I should try wear them together 😀
I don’t know Casbah but I do like Angelica. Off to look it up.
Yes do! It’s a fresh spicy scent which is a category I always fall for!
Casbah is very nice – if you’d like a sample, Springpansy, let me know. I think you have my email.
Mmm, Kyoto is the only one from the series I have, since I’m not an incense-note person in general. This one, however, I do get that contemplative, Japanese vibe and it works for me.
Wearing Indochine and coping with what appears to be a head cold this morning. Oy.
Haven’t smelled Indochine but wish you well with regards to the cold. Iv found perfume with a mentholated or ginger note CAN help but YMMV!
SOTD Tabu. I smell warm and cozy, and it *almost* cleans out my mind from the dead rat smell that has invaded our bedroom. We think it’s in the ceiling somewhere, but I wasn’t able to get up there (unfinished basement) to take a look. Pest guys are booked until Thursday, so it looks like we’re sleeping in the guest bedroom for a while! Yuck.
*unfinished ATTIC
Oh UGH. Went through that ourselves last winter and led to a whole rat-proofing project this winter…my sympathies!!
Thank you.
Yes, they’re going to close things up up there as well. The thinking was we didn’t want to do that part too early, in hopes the rats would go somewhere else to die, if they had the option. Ha!
Exactly!
Ack! Guest bedroom for sure! Maybe the exterminators will get a break in their schedule and come early.
Fingers crossed! We’re on the waiting list, if their schedule opens up.
BLETCH! Dead rodent smell is among the worst.
What does dead rat smell, smell like?
Every spring after it thaws I get a rotting garbage smell under my porch, I always assume it’s the skunks or rabbits that go in and out. Maybe it’s rats? Idk…
Dead rodents definitely do NOT smell like rotting garbage to me. It’s much worse. ?
Dang.. I can’t even imagine!
Yeah, it’s definitely a corpse smell.
Poor dead rodents: so cute in life….I had to deal with that at work, in the lobby, of our law office! The little critter got trapped in a wall, and the following Monday there was nothing to do but get a fan and try to disperse the stink. It was….bad.
I don’t hold them any ill-will “out in nature!” But once they’re doing damage to my home, I’m less compassionate.
You said it!
For sure. Happy to live side by side: me inside and them outside!
OMG GROSS
Yeah. It’s bad.
The upside of a bad night’s sleep is generally the next night is a good one.
Chamade EdT because it’s a new bottle and I needed to try it. Nice!
Your glass is half full, LizzieB. I will adjust mine accordingly! ??
That’s totally true for me too. When I have insomnia I usually remind myself when I’m laying there “well, at least I’ll sleep good tonight” ps: saw your comment about Instagram and was it me or hajusuuri you meant? I am not private and you can find me by name.
SotD = Amber Flash
Samples of Tauer scents sit on my desk in their little silver tin, tempting me every time I look at them. 😉 Excellent marketing, Mr. Tauer, most excellent.
Apricots are among my favorite fruits. When I was born my grandfather planted an apricot tree in the backyard of my childhood home. He nicknamed me “little apricot blossom” and similarly called my younger sister “little cherry blossom” after the tree he planted for her.
That house was not too far from an apricot orchard. The owner set aside a few days at the end of harvest for people to come and pick slightly overripe apricots for free. I would climb a tree with a small bucket and pick – one for the bucket, one for my mouth – until my belly couldn’t hold any more.
My mother canned those apricots and made amazing apricot jam. The smell of the jam as it cooked was heavenly. She also baked bread. Warm bread and butter with just-made jam was our dinner on days she was processing all that fruit. Sweet memories.
Thanks for sharing that lovely story. What a beautiful scent-memory!
Thank you for sharing your family memory. I’ll add that I was surprised how readily a dwarf fruit tree can grow on a suburban or even an urban bit of ground. If anyone is yearning for a fruit tree, you might have more options than you think. Peaches in particular seem to be less fussy.
Such sweet and romantic nicknames your grandfather had for you & your sister!
What a lovely story 🙂
OMG that sounds so delicious!
I’m wearing MadHat SantL today. It has matured beautifully since I bought it a few years back and now I wish I had bought more than 10mls.
I have read some good books lately, if you are in need of material: The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue starts slow, but about 1/4 in gets going well. Also The Invisible Library, it was all right but Addie La Rue was better. All The Young Men by Ruth Coker Burks is nonfiction. In 1986 Arkansas she begins helping men with AIDS who have come home to die because no one else will have anything to do with them. Waiting on the night table is Dirt, by Bill Buford, about working as a chef in France, and Fathoms, about whales.
I need a perfume called MadHat ?
SotD is Md’O Oudh Osmanthus, which coincidentally ties in (loosely) with the apricot theme. Just right for a cold, winter’s day, and if I were doing my Top Ten right now, it would be there.
I love dried apricots and have been in the habit of eating 3 or 4 with breakfast every day, since I discovered Malatya organic apricots from Turkey. They are luscious! They used to be easy to find, but they all seem to have disappeared from market shelves everywhere I can think to look. I finally found a source online and was thrilled, but my second batch was not good. Can anyone recommend a place to buy them?
Wish I could help.
Thanks!
Busy day today… took out recyclables, walked down to the mailbox and grabbed the mail, did a load of laundry, and vacuumed a room. On the down side, I did accidentally step on one of the cats when I did not see her underfoot. Based on her yelp, and how she ran away, I don’t think I did any damage. And she did walk up to me a couple of minutes later for petting and other attention.
SOTWeekend = more Mistouko EdP from my little dabber sample.
Sounds like you’ve been forgiven. ?
Yeah, that’s the wonderful thing about companion animals.
Meowr! I’m glad the cat’s ok. It’s been kind of a lazy day for me so kudos!
Yesterday was my day off from chores. Stupid tired then, and I don’t know why.
SOTD = Maya Njie Vanilj
Woohoo! I’ve started on the Pantone project. First up is Vanilj, where its inside covers are indeed yellow!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ4oQ45Boil/?igshid=l08ysqpuiq01
I did a 5 mile walk today! And 1 load of laundry. But I didn’t step on a cat (jk jalapeño) ?.
I’m beginning to think that every cat’s last name is “Underfoot”, even if it sounds kind of Tolkein-ish or hobbit-ish.
?
Oh, good one, Jalapeno!!!!!!
Woohoo! We were day apart twins! ?
I’ve been in Coromandel on the left arm and Le Lion on the right. All day, and reapplied once. I’m still not sure which one I like better. Coromandel is sweeter and warmer than Le Lion. The blast of leather at the start of Le Lion is so great. I’ll try it tomorrow with Shalimar. ?
Do you *have* to decide which one you like more?
Weeellll, nooooo….?
Good, because the post-holiday letdown period is a terrible time to put oneself thru that!
That leather blast is just what turned me off to it!
I’m very late, nearly midnight Sunday! I’ve had a project to do that is taking all my time and is due tomorrow. Not quite done but almost. Our weather turned just miserable, cold and dark and rainy–there was even snow about an hour north of Houston. People got so excited they drove up there so their kids could play in snow! Weird! I’m wearing TIger’s Nest by Memo. In the past it has seemed a little too strident or something, but it’s hitting the spot right now. Maybe it’s just a great scent for the cold weather. Friday I began therapy on my hand and have a lot of exercises to do three or four times a day. So far they’re making my hand hurt a lot more, phooey! I hope eventually, and assume, they will help.
Calypso maybe you should check with the therapist whether the pain is to be expected. It’s so difficult to differentiate healing from harmful pain…
