Hump Day! Also, Britney Spears’ (39th) birthday and the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: more than happy to take the cookie points for A Lab on Fire Paris*LA.
Reminder: 12/4 is National Cookie Day. Do what you like with the theme, and feel free to link to your favorite recipe.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I was thinking how grateful I am to have this little perfume community. Especially during these crazy time.
SOTD Chanel Gabrielle Essence
Chanel makeup, it takes a lot of effort to put on makeup these days but I feel better after I do it.
Cappuccino with almond milk
Cashmere sweater, soft and cozy, with leggings.
I echo your gratitude. I wish I could echo your style, but at least I’m wearing a nice lipstick today!
which lippy!
Walk of No Shame by Charlotte Tilbury. It’s a nice red with a slight orange undertone.
that is beautiful
I am Legende , a frosted pink
Goes well with my gray fluffy sweater
Oh that looks like a great color. I am still upset about the discontinuation of Guerlain’s Forever Brown and this might be close. That said, I haven’t worn lipstick in months! Too lazy for makeup at all, although not for perfume.
I wonder if all of you who know their lipsticks would happen to know what shade Claire Foy is wearing in the crown? It looks like a perfect shade of red/brick/neutral.
Thanks for the reminder to go put my “face on” before getting on Zoom – wouldn’t want to scare any of my students… 🙂
you can start here:

Thanks! I guess I was not the only one who was impressed by the lips!
So elegant, as usual!
I try, it helps with my mood.
Forgive me donatella for I have pre ordered a bottle of Chanel le Lion as soon as it popped up my email last night.
Yay! From the Chanel website? When do you get it?
It is already on the website. They will start shipping on Dec 10.
Yep!
Sweet!!
I’m 100% sure the only reason you would need to ask her forgiveness is if you hadn’t ordered it!
This.
Le lion!!!!
yes!
its Shalimar like but different. I love it!
Hmm. Maybe this is why I don’t think I need more than the decant I’ve got? I have lots of (vintage) Shalimar. You might be right that it fills a similar niche (but in a restrained, Chanel kind of way, instead of a bawdy, 70’s disco kind of way).
Hmm..you are be right.
I meant “you are right”
Sign me up!
Oh that is exciting news!
I am excited!!
Yay for your new purchase!
Feeling drained and exhausted. November and December are always very busy at work and this year is not an exception. I barely have time to breath and I am still behind reading comments
Wearing Chanel Coromandel. I am very tempted now to order a bottle of Le Lion. I will make a decision soon!
I am so excited because I will received my Black Friday perfume packages today with my full bottles of Etro Messe de Minuit, Montale Full Incense and a travel size set of Bombay Bling.
I will split Messe de Minuit and Full Incense because they are big bottles. I am posting them some time this week. If I don’t get enough interest now, I will still offer them at the next splitmeet. I don’t need to open the bottles now, because I am still using my decants.
Keeping my spirits high with coffee, coffee and more and a positive attitude. I guess the holidays spirit is already making me feel in a more cheerful mood!
Happy Wednesday, everyone! ?
I honestly was just thinking of you when your post popped up! I hope you have a good day!???????
Thank you, Lillyjo!?. I will survive! You too have a nice day!
I hope you have a fabulous day and that there are a few minutes of peace. I’m glad to hear your lovely new bottles have arrived – they sound great!
Thank you, Sistine. Having my lunch break now and reading comments. Very relaxing!
I would just order Le Lion. Why not!
Exactly! ?
Lovely package! Sorry about the stress – I hope January will be better.
Thank you! Crossing fingers January will bring less work stress.
I love Messe di Minuit! I’ve got a bottle and a BUB, myself.
It is so pretty, comfy and calming. Perfect for Autumn/Winter days!
Yay for perfume packages!! Hang in there.
Thank you, Cazaubon! Counting the hours for the day to be over!
Yay for new bottles! Hang in there with work.
Thank you, KellyC! Trying my best!
New perfume bottles seem to be my major form of stress relief these days. Oopsie!
I have broken my almost “no-buy” commitment very badly since last month. I agree with you that getting new bottles is a great stress relief therapy!
Hang in there! I feel your pain & envy your coffee. I cut back on my caffeine in an effort to get better sleep (ha!) and the looks I give coffee shops when I drive by them could probably get me put in jail. I hope your burdens lighten up sooner rather than later.
Thank you, Catanosmia! ?
I had cut the amount of coffee significantly. Unfortunately, the last couple of weeks have pushed me to increase the amount again. Despite, drinking my last cup in the evening, I am so tired by the time I go to bed that I am glad that it is not affecting my sleep at all. Looking forward to more relaxing times!
Also feeling drained and exhausted today. I think the short days are getting to me. I need to keep telling myself that the days will be getting longer soon enough… we will have another hour of daylight by the end of January.
I’m counting down the days!
I am counting the days. It is so depressing not only because the days are darker, but also cloudy all the time. We have not seen the sun for a long time already.
Boo for too much work. Yay for Coromandel, maybe Le Lion, perfume packages and coffee! Perfume packages and coffee are what’s keeping me going too. 🙂
I feel more damage to my wallet is on the way! ?
I’m wearing Bois Blond by Parfumerie Generale today. The temperature has dropped to the 30s and it’s making me feel happy and refreshed – sorry everyone, but winter is my favorite season and I really miss Canadian winters. I usually go up to visit at Christmas but that won’t be happening this year, so I’ll have to wait until next year for minus 20 and tons of snow.
I hope everyone has a great day. Can’t wait to see how many people ordered Le Lion!
I’m always curious as to why some people really love winter vs summer. I can barely tolerate walking to the car in the cold and snow. Other people can be outside for hours and enjoying it. Do you think it’s a temperature sensitivity thing?
I don’t know – I can certainly get cold, but I don’t mind it as much as I hate being hot.
So, my hypothesis about this is it’s all about our associations with our childhoods (I know, calling Dr. Freud-fraud!). I grew up on the Oregon coast, where we can literally have 3 months of rain/fog/grey weather without a moment of blue sky. Now, as an adult, I truly don’t mind days and days of rain. Not to say I don’t get out and enjoy surprise December sunshine, but I don’t *need* it to feel fine. For me, it rains in winter, and it’s no big deal. I know lots of folks, though, who would never relocate to this part of the world because they’d find the darker winters emotionally problematic. (Which in true Oregonian fashion, I am totally ok with. As the quote goes, “You’re welcome to visit, but please don’t stay.” 😀 )
Idk… I spent my childhood outside sledding and building snowmen. Although back then we were bundled up like the little brother from A Christmas Story. Maybe I should start wearing a snowsuit again!
I’m sure it helps to be dressed appropriately for the weather. 🙂 But I was more thinking about how my attitude was shaped by my childhood. . . did your parents enjoy the winter or dread it? My parents never talked about it. It was just. . . winter. I feel like that shaped my expectations as I grew up.
I’ll “fraud-counter-Freud” you – I think it might be the opposite. My husband grew up in Ireland, and he loves our steady California sunshine and hot days. Most of our Irish friends in Ireland complain incessantly about their terrible summers. My kids, who grew up here, think grey days are special :).
However, I wonder if it’s really an internal thermostat type of thing, combined with perhaps sensitivity to lack of sunshine in terms of mood.
Ha! There’s definitely something biological for how we manage in the extreme temperatures. I don’t mind the heat at all, but I’ve known people who find it oppressive and nearly enraging. On the other hand, I get cold easily, and once I’m cold, it can be hours before I feel comfortable again. My guess is it’s not an either/or sort of thing but a combination of both factors–personal psychology and biology.
I love winters , especially snowy winters and for me it is a sensory thing. A lot of seasons have a kind of sensory overload: vivid colours, long days, brightness, bird noise, …but winter brings stillness and clarity. Deep snow and bare branches strip back the environment to a few perfect elements, the clear blue sky and cold air feels fresh and guves a sense of health, snow muffles sound, the pleasure of feeling warm due to clothing in a freezing space creates comfort, short days and cosy interiors wellbeing…then storms add a bit of awe. Plus in winter you are one step from spring renewal, so it is a nice resting time.
That captures so much of what I love about winter. But I also love lizarding in the sun during the summer. I need seasons!
You just articulated my favorite parts of winter! The silence and feeling of pause. And the white/ green/ grey palette.
Ditto. Plus snowy winters remind me of the times I went skiing. Early in the morning with no other sound than that of my ski’s on the snow, just brilliant. A great way to empty one’s head.
I grew up in SoCal and enjoy the moderate weather and sunshine, but I lived in S Korea for a few years and really loved the distinct 4 seasons. I visited family in Portland a couple of years ago and I have to say that the rain makes for some beautiful green forest!! Some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen…I can’t wait to explore more someday.
I grew up in rainy Northern California. I still love a good rainy day. And I very much miss the tule fog around Christmas.
I think I grew to like winters living on the East Coast, mainly because I despise NYC summers so much. I love winter clothing also…the sweaters and scarves and hats and shoes. In summer…there’s only so much you can take off to find relief. I’m just uncomfortable in high humidity.
You’re not missing much today in MTL at least! It’s sleeting, the worst of all weathers IMO ?
I don’t particularly like winters but it IS nice to get out of the house on some winter mornings and see a pristine fluffy new cover on the earth. It’s like getting a fresh start!
Nothing good ever comes from sleet!
Seconding this!
Especially driving in sleet…I do not miss that.
Add me to the list of winter-lovers. One biological factor no one has mentioned is blood pressure. Mine is low and I think the heat might make it even lower. I’v only experienced temperatures to about -10 degrees celsius (when I was in Toronto) and I found it incredibly invigorating (though obviously only if one is dressed properly). And…since it almost never snows in my corner of the world I find it an awesome spectacle. So while everyone is expressing desire for sun I’m glowing bright green with snow-envy 😀
Interesting – I also have very low blood pressure!
Happy for colder weather and sun. Just feels festive.
Freshly washed cashmere Marimekko hoodie from last year’s Uniqlo offering. A Christmas gift from my husband. Paired with Oeillet Bengale to spice things up.
Finished a hat for donation yesterday and working on matching scarf/cowl. I often end up doing a cowl, because I get so bored with scarves….
knitting a cowl is so much fun, I adore going around and around! 🙂
I can only make long rectangles and squares, so I’m stuck with scarves and blankets, or would be, if I ever finished a blanket. 😉
you can do it! with a circular knitting needle, it’s is my favorite for knitting in the round.
Knitting appeals to my wiggly nature. Something to do with my hands. What I’d really like is to make something I’d use, like some gloves. Fingers scare me, though. (Knitting them, I mean!)
I generally make cowls that are done in straight needles and then I sew the ends together in a mobius-like cowl. It’s the laziest version I know… But, I plan to do one on circular soon.
I’ve done a mobius cowl too! 😀 I found it in an Elizabeth Zimmermann knitting book.
Cowls are more elegant and just as useful. I’m busy making a pure wool blanket in brick and cobalt blue colors in crochet.
That sounds beautiful! I will learn to crochet one of these days.
I’m trying to get my act together and so far failing. Sotd is White Patchouli from the purse stash. The weather station says it will be a slow start for winter this year, but to watch out come January. Can’t wait ?
watch out come January sounds like a threat AND a promise, depending on personal tolerance for cold weather. I sometimes miss snowy winters. 😉
I miss them too tiffanie! How on Earth did I end up in North Carolina? Oh right, love. ?
Love will get ya, every time!
ha! 🙂 I grew up in a warm and sunny part of the world, then was a transplant to the north for almost two decades (like you, all for love). I’m glad to be back where it’s warm (most of the time)!
“Watch out come January” sounds along the lines of “Wait until your Father gets home!” Definitely a threat lurking in that statement.
SotD = Vol de Nuit edt
Smelling like old school French perfumery this morning. MMmmm, perfect florals and woods.
I had a strange dream: was feeling very happy that I was leaving on a trip to France, arrived at the airport and noticed all the masks, then realized there is a pandemic I somehow had blocked from memory!?! Hello, Fantasy, meet Reality.
Silly picture the internet served up a while ago (with NSFW text) sums it up:
https://www.gofugyourself.com/this-holiday-season-please-give-thanks-for-this-1977-photo-of-amy-irving-carrie-fisher-and-terri-garr-11-2020
I’ll take existential crisis in a beret please. Happy hump day fragrant friends!
I love that photo! I miss parties and girlfriends. It’s nice to see gorgeous people around a table.
Isn’t that picture charming? I’m tempted to print it out and put it in a frame, just for laughs 😀
Love that photo!
yay! it made me smile 😀
I have had many variations of that dream, usually involving being at a conference packed with people and suddenly realizing, “oh we shouldn’t be doing this!”
Whenever I watch TV/movies now I get tense when I see unmasked crowds and get the urge to shout “physical distancing PLEASE!!”
oh, same here! It makes me all twitchy when I see a crowd scene. I want to jump up and say “where’s your mask?” 😉
the pandemic has only invaded my dreams once before 🙁 perhaps it’s good that I’m processing it subconsciously? I hope so. 🙂
Wow, thank you for the picture. And did not even know Go Fug Yourself was still active! Judi Dench’s wedding cape, lovely. Have a feeling this will eat a good hour this afternoon 🙂
Yep, just caught up on several years of SWINTON fashion. Thank you again.
fantastic! I adore seeing Judi Dench’s sartorial choices, and SWINTON is a GODDESS, imho 😀
also! must mention I watched Rosamond Pike in the movie Hector and the Search for Happiness a few days ago. I swear she was channeling a young SWINTON in a beautiful way, it was so charming. 🙂
Vol de Nuit is one of my long-time favorites. Sometimes I search vintage on ebay and dream…
I do too. Once I ordered a sample of vintage VdN only to be told the bottle had been drained. Someday, my pretty, someday I will find you . . .
but the current EdT is pretty good all the same! 🙂
For me it’s mostly: Mildly Amused by This BS 😀
excellent! We should start a club called EC/MA/SU 😀
I adore Carrie Fisher, there’s something very knowing about the way her smile turns up ever so slightly at the corners.
Also love the pic. Wonderful actresses. RIP Carrie Fisher.
wonderful, for sure.
I cried half the day when I heard Carrie Fisher had passed away.
I said a few choice expletives. Gone too soon, IMO.
I’m in Lancome Mille&Une Roses for the cp: rose scented macaroons! Wish I had one right now to go with my coffee. But instead, I think I’ll make these today along with working:
https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/triple-chocolate-cranberry-oatmeal-cookies-231316
I usually add chopped pecans and dried cherries instead of cranberries and I don’t bother with the icing, although it’s pretty.
Starting to feel a bit panicked about Christmas approaching quickly. And shipping cautions about timing, etc. Thus it makes TOTAL sense that I’ll waste time making cookies. I know.
A lot of people on my Christmas list are getting books. Including my little ones. One stop shop!
I’m afraid I can’t keep it quite that simple, unfortunately.
Have you ever had the Ispahan macaron from Pierre Herme? I have not, but it is on my bucket list:
https://www.pierreherme.com/pastries/signatures-pastries/ispahan..html
Nope, I haven’t. And I haven’t been to Paris either – but it’s on my bucket list for sure. I’ll add the Pierre Herme stop!
I’ve had it, it’s delicious (of course). Everything in his shop is delicious.
And so pretty!
Yum! Both scent and cookies! I told my son about cookie day, and his gears are turning, so I may have to do some baking at the end of the week as well.
😀
Oops, I meant *macarons* obviously.
Hello all – wearing liberal sprays of Guerlain’s Shalimar Souffle Intense. I wish this came in a body lotion or cream. It’s glorious stuff.
Having a day full of Zoom meetings, trying to look presentable and the wild mane of hair isn’t cooperating. 😯
you smell great!
Can you do a messy bun or pony tail?
I settled for a messy bun, only to realize later in the day I had two curls sticking out that made me look like I had antennae! 😀
And SmokeyToes zoom-bombed my meeting. It made for a light moment. 🙂
I’m sure he was very well received ?
I do five classes a day with unkept hair! I’m just over it.
What do you think of souffle intense?
Irisjasmine – I LOVE Shalimar Souffle Intense. I was hesitant to purchase a FB unsniffed but after reading up, I pulled the trigger and I’m very happy that I did. FragranceNet has a 33% off coupon.
It has a beautiful soft-orange blossom opening, the dry down is perfectly balanced, vanilla, musk, and benzoin. Moderate sillage and seven hours in, I can smell it but it’s not overwhelming. Far dry down is cozy vanilla.
It’s a little similar to Dior’s Addict, but not as cloying.
Thanks for your thoughts! I had a bottle of Addict I drained around 2013, and I loved it. Sounds pretty good!
My hair has taken a turn toward the truly chaotic! So with you there!
Wearing BDK Gris Charnel today. I fell for their information blitz, but I must say it is a truly lovely spicy sandalwood, and the bottle is lovely with a nice hefty bakelite-style cap. Can’t complain!
Sorry smokeytoes, that went in the wrong place!
No worries, you smell nice!
This morning I am doused in a (presumably) hajusuuri-approved number of spritzes of Carner Barcelona Tardes. There’s some spice there for sure, so maybe I smell like celery cookies? I have to say, I’m liking this CP. I could smell like cookies all month and be ok with that.
I am dragging my feet this morning. I didn’t want to lift this morning, so I settled on 2 sets of 12 for 3 lifts and decided that was enough for the day. I haven’t yet had my breakfast; just making coffee took me 10 or 15 minutes because I was so spacy and distracted. I should probably make myself eat something. I teach class in 20 minutes. Sigh.
I hope your classes go well and that your day comes together.
Thank you, Sistine! As is often the case, spending time with the kids has energized me for at least a while this morning. They’re so funny. 😀
I’m kind of losing motivation for classes – not that I’m frustrated, more like I’m feeling we are done already!
Oh geez. Done already in December?! There’s so much school year yet to go. For me, this year is a mixed blessing, but one of the good things is that I’m still finding ways to connect with my kids and create communities in my classroom. That has been my primary focus, and if they learn a little science along the way, awesome. It allows me to focus on what I can control, how I create space for them and give them opportunities to share themselves with me and their peers.
It’s good that you get your exercise done in the morning. I procrastinate with it every day and often end up on the treadmill at midnight!
Wow. Midnight treadmill would not even be an option for me! I would never fall asleep afterwards, and I’m never up that late in any case (not even New Years anymore). I love lifting weights, but even still, I do better getting it done first thing, before my to-do list is still incomplete and it’s competing for my attention!
Nice job working out! Carner Barcelona has some great scents! I haven’t tried Tardes yet but I liked Botafumeiro.
It’s the only CB scent I’ve tried. Good to get a rec for another scent! I thought about buying samples, but I wasn’t sure which ones were likely candidates.
Absolutely approved LOL. Is your garage gym all set up now?
No, sadly. Mr. Spicebomb fell down the stairs last month, and he hurt his shoulder. He’s fine, but it gets sore pretty quickly, and that’s slowed down finishing the walls, which needs to happen before we can install the rig. I bet I don’t get it set up before Christmas.
Taking several of your suggestions from yesterday, I’m wearing OJ Tolu today. I was in love this morning, but it’s almost gone by now. I’ll definitely have to try it again when I can concentrate on its development.
I’m having trouble breaking out of my cranky mood this week, but I am encouraged by all the vaccine progress that seems to be putting a light somewhere out there at the end of this tunnel!
Yes, I was very happy to read about projections this morning. Looking promising!
I will always join you in your crankiness when it comes to the state of affairs with covid.
Also cranky but encouraged w/ the vaccine news!
Copying many of you in Angel Muse. I still like it, but I’d like to go back to Slowdive, or Ummagumma. I made myself wear something else today but I think I ought to give into my serial monogamous instincts of falling hard for one thing and running with that while it lasts.
I’m a bit like that too. For a certain period nothing else will do but the ONE!
Still without electricity at home. I feel so gross not being able to take a full shower. Surviving on a half a gallon on water for bathing. Wearing Kyoto right now, hoping I don’t stink too bad.
Did your dad start the generator?
He did but the sump pump shorts everything out, so hence no running water.
Shoot, so sorry Dawn!!
I hope it all gets worked out soon!
Hope the power returns soon!
And now I want a macaron.
I’m in Dusita Moonlight in Chiangmai today.
The renovation at granny’s is moving forward. Hot water is working fine, the holes in the walls have been filled. We’re still waiting for the new toilet to be attached to the ground.
What do you think of it? Am tempted to buy a sample…
It’s very pleasant and wearable
I wanted to get a sample too.. notes make it sound a bit like a resiny citrus shalimaresque oriental? La douceur de siam is in my wish list!
Good morning Y’all,
Wearing Ego Facto Me Myself and I, and smelling that awesome smoky vetiver! Kinda smells like 2nd hand cigarette smoke on me, which I sometimes don’t mind…..
SMELLY NEWS ALERT: FragranceNet.com has a bunch of their 8ml travel atomizers on clearance! $6 and $8 for Hermes and Mancera? Yes please! I ordered more than I need….. 🙂
SMELLY SERENDIPITOUS SCENT SHARE: So last night I had put on some of that super medicinal, smelly Elizabeth Arden 8 hour body lotion (smells like carbolated Vaseline, which I love!), and then sprayed some Coco Mademoiselle Intense on top. WOW! They smell amazing together! And then my nose realized that the combo smells just like Perles de Lalique! Give it a try if you have the ingredients on hand…..
Off to check out the deals!
Oh and meant to ask, how is the Mercari selling going?
I do believe everything has sold! (My oldest is keeping up with it….) We recouped about $400!
That is wonderful. I have to get motivated to list things there or on eBay.
Oooh, Thank you for the heads up and the smell tip!
The best way to find them (that I could figure) is search for “travel sprays” and everything with atomizers will pop up. You’ll be able to tell by the discount what is on deep discount without having to open each item!
I really like a good Florentine, but haven’t had one in years, not since I last visited Melbourne . I love the snap and chewiness combination, the fruit, the texture, and the chocolate. No perfume match…just as well as I’d probably drink it. Wearing Sydney Rock Pool and off up the hill. Bad time of year for pollen but the wild grasses are lovely. Yorkshire fog is so pretty . Have a bit of fun today!!
I love Florentines too, I don’t know why I never make them.
Jaques Zolty Van-Ile. It’s a great vanilla- a little like cake-batter or sugar cookie dough, but not too sweet, just sweet enough. I just want to go home and snuggle with my dog and bake. Is that too much to ask? Today is my one year anniversary at my job though, so I am thankful for employment.
Happy Work Anniversary!
Happy work anniversary. I think your SOTD would be She-ra approved, she is the vanilla queen.
Congrats on your work anniversary!
Happy work anniversary and yay for vanilla!
The year went by quickly! Congrats.
Angel Muse… I have learned I need to wear this with a very light hand – it’s probably the only perfume for which I spray and walk into the scent cloud
I enjoy it, but I read a funny review on fragrantica which said that “the Marquis de Sade made his prostitutes eat marzipan so their poop would smell better, and this is what Angel Muse smells like” ha ha
You know, I rarely look at fragrantica reviews anymore. I realized that one bad review could influence me to not even try a perfume that I might actually love.
I can honestly say that I get zero marzipan prostitute poop out of Muse, lol. I really hope my phone doesn’t remember that sentence!?
Ha ha, very true! I don’t like the new format of fragrantica, and I am also highly influenced by negative reviews, and also by positive reviews – I just got a sample of le baiser du dragon based on positive reviews and I couldn’t believe people loved it – difficult for me to understand.
I mostly like fragrantica for the scent memories people share, and I also enjoy their articles!
I think this happens in every forum though. One person says they don’t like a scent and three others chime in to agree and the casual reader doesn’t bother to try it, even when they see it…
The perception of perfume has to be wildly variable.. so so many perfumes that people consider crowd pleasers or very hyped things I don’t like at all. Obvious now but this came as such a shock when I was getting into perfume! But still I find fragrantica quite useful to get the general vibe and read between the lines, see note combinations that worked for me before etc
I don’t love the new frangantica format either.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t care for the new look.
Thanks for the laughs, you two! I sorely needed them. It’s been a day.
I wonder if it worked?
Perhaps I must undergo the marzipan diet for the sake of science…
Firm believer in science, I’ll join you!
I adore marzipan.
If you do, please report your findings!
Ahem. Let’s consider what is required to determine the success of this experiment. ?
You gotta laugh at those reviews – I get quite the chuckle.
One that killed me recently was a review—written by a woman—disputing a fragrance’s “unisex” designation: “I would be frightened of the woman who would wear this.”
It made me want to get a sample! And also had me saying to myself, “There must be lots of frightening women on nst!”
I like it that some of the users respond pretty well to the very obnoxious comments – they get effectively slammed! That being said I do wonder about the balloon ratings given to reviews…
Mendittorosa Lacura for me today, layered over vanilla cookie lotion. 🙂
Ah, the lotion alone wins this CP.
I’m in Cuir Ottoman today for comfort – dealing with very gusty cold wind and an iffy tummy. Skipped coffee, which I almost never do.
I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you, sistine.
Feel better and have 2 cups tomorrow. 🙂
I am wearing Galop d’Hermes today and drinking a cup of Nilgiri Winter Frost black tea.
I love Galop! It has been on my wishlist for a long time now, I just wish they had a 30ml. You smell gorgeous.
In Jorum Studios Phloem.
It’s a really interesting one, with a nasturtium note balanced against the sweetness that reminds me of mostarda di frutta, aka Italian fruits preserved in sweet/pungent mustard syrup. So not cookies, but would go great on a cheese plate during the dessert course! A circuitous partial CP, voila.
Made Chicken Marbella last night and an all-dressed pizza just now to tide Mr. Teebear and I over for supper for the week, and hope to get around to lavender lemon biscotti tomorrow!
You guys are eating well this week!
How are you liking this brand teebear? It sounds really different in a good way.
Jorum? I really like their work. I got to sample all their original offerings last year when they had a pop-up shop in Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival, and Euan McCall was so lovely and engaging – when I went back to purchase my mini bottles of Nectary and Phloem, my favorites, he gave me an additional sample set to give to “someone” in the US because at the time he wasn’t set up with LuckyScent or international delivery.
He knew I was on Fragrantica and visiting the US after Fringe ended and was planning to regift my samples and simply said “if you’re willing and someone else is interested in sampling, please pass them along!” How kind is that?
Not every perfume was for me, as there are certain notes that just aren’t my thing, but I do think all their perfumes are very thoughtfully composed! And Nectary gets heaps of compliments every time I wear it.
I’d be curious to revisit Carduus in the future – it was my favorite off-skin initially, but it has chamomile which is often my nemesis, so on-skin it didn’t make me happy. But I’ve slowly developed more tolerance for chamomile via Zoologist Sloth this year, so maybe it would be okay now.
Thanks, I must give them a try! Nectary and Phloem have beautiful sounding notes.. loving the aesthetic of the bottles too as from an antique botanical book.
What a great holiday you had! Fringe festival in Edinburgh, shown indie perfumes and taking bottles samples with you home.. the perfumer sounds really nice.
Isn’t Edinburgh the best city ever? I live in the UK now and keep escaping there for long weekends.. thought it’s quite far from me.
I was working for a show during Fringe, so even better – paid to travel! Edinburgh is quite magical. Hoping to go back again next year if the stars align and events can happen.
Not cookies, but definitely spice. I’ve decided on Majda Bekkali’s Mon Nom est Rouge for today. We’ve even got some sunshine this morning 🙂
It’s summer after all ?
Is that based on the novel?
Wearing Papillon Dryad which I almost love. It was a gift and I will finish the decant but don’t wish for a new bottle.
Also wearing a bit of Histoires de parfums 1804 (George Sand) I ended up buying that from ALzD as all the other options somehow did not quite fit the bill. It’s lovely, a pina colada floriental that still manages to be refined.
I have a teeny tiny sample of Dryad and am *almost* sold on it too, but still hesitate on if I’d ever want more! It was my favorite of that line initially on sampling them all, but my notes actually say “I love it… but I’m not sure how long I could.”(Salome, on the other hand, haunts my dreams). Nice to hear someone else has a similar feeling!
I like Dryad too, I also considered getting it in my galbanum spring phase.. I got Angelique instead but I find all Papillons are so well made!
Wearing Terry de Gunzburg Flagrant Délice, a mix of almond and fig, usually I wear it in the summer but with its gourmand aspect I decided to give it a go today.
That sounds like a cookie!
Now that you mention it it kind of does, it’s an elegant fig, not very talked about.
Bottega Veneta, I am not into cookie scents. Met a friend for a walk with her dog, so nice to see someone other than my colleagues or the boyfriend.
Made filled bellpeppers with rice, Feta and minced meat for dinner.
You smell gorgeous, and your sinner sounds divine. I’m glad you got to go out for a nice walk!
Sounds like a perfect day and meal!
Wearing Prada Infusion d’Amande today. It’s very light so I’ve reapplied heavily to my wrists. This isn’t very cookie-like and may not be cp compliant!
It is light enough not to conflict with your cookie of choice, though — that works!
Something that I discovered back in March, at the beginning of our lockdown was that I luuurve to layer Diva with Eau de Missiones. I get something like a candied rose chypre with a lovely spicy base. I tried Eau de Missiones with a number of other chypres after this but did not have the same success with anything else….
A candied rose chypre with a lovely spicy base sounds so nice Merlin!
It is lovely – far more pleasing to my nose than either frag on its own 🙂
We had a cold day yesterday, so I drive to the Everglades. Went to a trail which was pretty wet, but no people so it was safe. Saw one big and very cold alligator, and a kestrel hawk landed on a branch very close to me and watched me for awhile. I think it was a sign. Smell still gone, but I got a whiff of curry today making some rice. No alligators were harmed, and I was in a remote area only locals know.
Did you go for work or for fun?
Oh, how cool!!
When do you get your test back?
I started the day with physical therapy (broken ankle) at 8:30, so was without perfume and makeup and dressed in exercise clothes. Somehow I didn’t manage to fix the makeup situation, so, unlike LTSG, I am looking every bit as tired as I feel and have been holding Zoom meetings with students looking pale and exhausted (fortunately, I always hide the self view on Zoom, so I don’t have to look at my wan face).
I did put on some perfume, Borneo 1834, which always makes me think of chocolate even though I cannot say it is chocolatey.
I love Borneo 1834. You smell great!
This is the first time I’ve worn it in the pandemic era, so I (thought I) went overboard — in addition to my usual dab on either wrist with the tube of the atomizer, which is usually almost too much for in-person work, I gave one wrist a hefty spray. Perhaps because it was SO COLD in the house yesterday and because I was sitting still (vs. the constant motion of in-person teaching), the spillage was very very low, although the lasting power remained good.
Hope your ankle heels quickly and good use of wan…so many words you don’t get to use too often and I love it when I or others do! 🙂
Thanks, She-ra. The ankle is doing really well — it’s been two+ months since the break happened and I’ve been in PT for about three weeks. It turns out that this tiny break is a much easier injury to put right than the ligament I tore in the OTHER ankle a couple years ago.
Isn’t “wan” a great word? It is almost onomatopoeic to me.
I’m in Amouage Opus III from a sample. It was almost a scrubber for me. I’m enjoying the drydown but I feel like it is similar to a lot of other Amouage drydowns .
I’m taking a few days of vacation before I go back to work to get slammed. I’m a nurse in CA (the only state with a nurse to patient ratio law) and our hospital just did away with our ratios due to the hospital being at capacity and short staffed. We have a lot of COVID and mental health hold patients and our average length of stay is off the charts right now. We’re at the start of a very dark period. I mention this because this board has been a little spot of late-night serenity for me. I am rarely able to post but I wanted to thank you all for the kind spirit you bring here. It gives me a little quiet place to stop at night before I go to bed (then get up and do it all over again). I really appreciate you all!!!
Thank you so much for the hard work you’re doing. I really appreciate you and all the other health care workers more than I can ever properly express.
I hope your vacation days are relaxing and undemanding.
Wow, and we certainly appreciate you! Medical staff have been taxed to an impossible degree through this period. So many skills suddenly seem trivial next to the ability to save lives… Thank you for popping in to say hi – and I hope your vacation has been deeply restful.
As an aside, I’m not a big Amouage fan but I know I’m in the minority here 😀
Sometimes I feel that “Thank You” is not an adequate reply to the healthcare workers who are doing so much right now. We owe so much to our doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other first responders.
Really there is nothing adequate one can say, but silence seems worse.
My Mom is also a nurse in northern CA. Things are also getting weird(er) where she is. Take care of yourself as best you can. Glad you find some respite here!
Enjoy your few days of vacation – you guys are heroes.
You work so hard. Sending big hugs to you.
I hope you won’t get slammed as hard as predicted – fingers crossed! Have a good few days off and thanks for what you are doing!
Good to see you here and I hope you get rested before having to go back. Thanks for all you do!
Great big hugs to you. As others have said, thank you for all your tireless work. Please take good care of yourself.
Catanosmia you can’t imagine how much we all appreciate you! If we provide any late night serenity for you, it’s the least we can do.
Echoing the gratitude…it is hard for me to imagine the load of physical and psychological exhaustion that you and other healthcare workers have been carrying. Wishing you a restorative break from work, and in awe of your fortitude.
I’m doing an Amber by Hermès knockout test today. (Can you tell I’ve been watching The Voice?) on the left hand, Ambre Narguile, and on the right, L’Ambre des Merveilles. The former is much more like a cookie but that doesn’t mean it wins this contest! I’m in a funk because our weather is dreary and rainy, there won’t be much of any Christmas this year, and my mom as so confused in today’s Zoom call she didn’t know who we were.
Seeing a loved one declining in this way is SO hard. Really one of the most stressful situations possible. I hope the ambers are wrapping you in a deep hug.
So sorry Calypso.
In Mona Di Orio Vanille. Favourite vanilla with Shalimar and definitely one of the most cookie like I have. Boozy orange vanilla and spice. ?
Ah, then Anne Pliska might work too!
Those macarons look delicious, Robin! ?
More cold and windy weather here today. There were rumors of snow flurries in the area this morning, but I didn’t see any.
SOTD = more Wrappings, plus Pacifica’s Persian Rose Body butter on my shins. It’s time to break out the heavier lotions and potions to use against dry skin.
Here in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, I saw snowflakes here and there in the afternoon yesterday and today. Apparently we got a snow and rain mix yesterday night.
I like Persian Rose. 🙂 You smell good. 🙂
Thank you! ?
Wow, I (happily) missed the snow rumors and any stray snowflakes!
Laaate to the party! Had the day off but worked for an hour or so. Such is life.
SOTD = Zoologist Bee
Musky broom!

No worries that it is down to the last centimeter inside because I have a BUB!
Got my Kilian Angels’ Share…still pristine in its shrinkwrap. I was kinda disappointed that the box only contained the perfume and nothing else! I suppose if I called a boutique and ordered that I would have received a few samples. Will it change my shopping habits? Probably not!
Those of you who see my feed have seen pics of my two advent calendars (yes, 2020 means I can double up!):

Wait… didn’t Bee >>> just <<< come out? You drained that bottle quick! Brava!
My first bottle is a partial one and I’ve also shared via a donation in exchange for perfume swap.
I have been on theme all week and wore CocoaPink Triple Vanilla Dream today from a kind NSTer.
Just read through all the comments and very grateful for this gracious community. ?
I tried those little niche samples that represented characters in a favorite series of mine. One I liked, one gave me an allergy cough, but many things are giving me an allergy cough lately.
Sorry to hear about the allergy coughs.
Thanks. It’s been so wet out that I think I’m reacting to mold and mildew and leaf mold. Benedryl stops the coughing very quickly, but then I fall asleep. *shrugs* I’m okay, though. I’d rather have it be allergies and something I can “fix” than some of the alternatives.
Yesterday I wore Ineke’s Jaipur Chai. Highly recommended for cardamom fans.
Today was a touch of Black Opium, courtesy of a generous nst-er, but I may be passing it on in the next freebie meet. I just never reach for it. A while later I added some Montale Chocolate Greedy. Following my afternoon shower, and it was Five O’clock Au Gingembre.
I think I get some cookie credits!
In actual cookie news, my last batch of chocolate chip cookies was a disaster. I don’t like cakey-cookies. I like them thin and crispy/chewy. Well. That bulk rebagged bread flower we bought during early lockdown when it was the only thing available? Don’t use it for cookies. (I know it’s probably something to do with the protein content…)
You definitely struck the cookie theme more than once! 😀
