It's Tuesday and World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. Birthdays: Joe Medicine Crow, Dylan Thomas, Ruby Dee, Roy Lichtenstein, Sylvia Plath, John Cleese, Maxine Hong Kingston, Fran Lebowitz. What fragrance are you wearing?
It's rainy and grey for the 2nd day in a row, so I'm choosing another of the antidepressants in my arsenal, Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Tea at the moment is a blend of two Yunnan teas from Upton.
Reminder: on 10/30, we're doing Emotionally scented...wear a perfume that gives you a strong emotional response (it makes you laugh, cry, feel sad, or becomes part of your armor to face the world, etc). Suggested by johanob, who gave the example of Guerlain L’Heure Bleue, which makes him feel sad.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Handmade Yixing Pan Hu Da Hong Pao Clay Teapot: "Da Hong Pao clay comes from the west side of the Fudong township of Yixing in Jiangsu province. High in iron oxide, it takes on a crimson color after roasting in a kiln. This is high density clay of exquisite quality with a high degree of crystallization. The Da Hong Pao clay teapot makes the taste of tea becomes soft, smooth and the flavor is very long lasting." $149 at Kong Mountain Tea.

SOTD Shalimar
Ciao Bella!
Lovely choice!
??
You smell great of course!
Exquisite!
I do adore Shalimar, do you prefer one concentration over the other? I loved PdT version (1990’s, I think?) the best…
My favorite is the Madagascar flanker! Don’t throw tomatoes at me that I like a flanker versus the “real” thing…
I am entirely with you! I do like vintage Shalimar EDC.
Gray, cool, rainy day. Like Robin, I am in one of my antidepressant scents, Berdoues Assam of India.
I took the day off to take care of some personal matters. On my way out soon.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
Have a lovely day off!
Thank you! ?
????
????
I hope you have a great day off!
Thank you, Sistine. It was a very busy, but productive day.
Hope you get everything taken care of early, so you can have some rest time.
Thank you, Lillyjo! Back home and resting now!
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you, Annie!
Enjoy your time off, you smell cool and fresh.
Thank you, Aurora!
Assam of India really is great. Have a good day!
Thank you, KellyC! Assam is indeed a great scent!
Assam of India is the perfect glass/mug of tea. I haven’t decided if it is hot tea or icea tea…
Assam of India works for me all year round. So, it can be either hot or ice tea! ?
I am wearing one of the fragrances of my youth, Grey Flannel. It is easy to forget how good this stuff is.
I never had the opportunity of trying this one. But fragrances of youth do take you back 🙂
A favorite in my small arsenal of masculine scents!
I love this fragrance! You smell wonderful.
I have this one, but it is years since I’ve worn it. I’ll have to find my bottle. You’ve inspired me to try it again.
It’s one of my brother’s scents + so affordable.
Fantastic.
Ohhh, GF is wonderful stuff and it brings back such wonderful memories. 🙂
Another grab from my untouched decant stash – Alaïa.
You smell good!
Nice choice
Great choice!
Currently in Estee Lauder Pleasures. I can’t decide if I want to keep wearing Pleasures or go with Clinique Happy. It’s the day before Jake’s surgery and I am a wreck already. Ulta and Sephora sent me emails. Ulta for some skin care stuff with 5x points and Sephora for that 10% off. Not with Jake’s surgery tomorrow. They will have to wait until my bonus comes in.
Best of luck for the op, Dawn! I recommend whichever scent is more calming. xxx
Hi Dawn, I hope it goes well for Jake. Stay strong!
Stay strong! We all will be thinking of you and Jake.
XO
Wishing the best for the both of you.
Wishing Jake the best. Sending both positive vibes!
Sending good health and recovery vibes to Jake!
Sending healing and happy vibes to Jake!
Wishing the best for you and Jake!
I hope the surgery goes well and that you feel calmer soon!
Hope the OP goes well
Best wishes for you and Jake. I suggest Happy. It is one of my ‘armor ‘ scents.
Fingers crossed for Jake to have a prompt recovery.
Positive thoughts sent for both you and Jake!
Sending good vibes and calmness to you and Jake!
Hang in there!
In Coco, claiming credit points for the emotion: ‘Feminine, In Your Face and Not Afraid to be Oponionated’
Have been so busy at work in a new role lately that’s I’ve not had as much time for NST… Am really enjoying the job though – so not complaining 🙂
Coco! Yes, good match for the mood
? not a well defined mood, but I feel it at time.
I like your emotion!…and Coco, which was my signature scent back in the day. Still love it : ), and you smell great.
Thanks! What a great signature scent! I am not faithful to any one scent but have found myself drawn to Coco again and again recently.
I’m glad to hear you love the new job!
Hooray right?! ?
Good you like your new job. By the way, how did you like Chypre Mousse?
Oh – yes! I haven’t give any feedback (shame on me).
It’s one of those that I’m intrigued by and have to try a few times more. I sprayed some of the perfume on the envelope which I left in the hallway, and for a few days every time I passed I had a funny smell association with the outdoors and wondered where that scent came from until I remembered the envelope. haha
Not sure it’s wearable for me, but I still want to smell it. I understand why you said to try b4 buy. Maybe I’ll get a soap version??
I get why people mention ‘earthy’ and ‘mushrooms‘ in the context.
Good to see you back commenting, glad the job is enjoyable. You smell super good, is it edt or edp? I have a fondness for the edt, the first one I wore, they are different and both beautiful scents.
I’m in the edp. But now intrigued by the edt. Have you ever tried the parfum? I’m considering it for my xmas wish list ?
No I haven’t tried the parfum but heard good things about it. Coco edt is less floral and more resinous (well, the vintage edt) so it depends on what one prefers.
a more resinous Coco. *very* interesting… I’m still deciding what I’ll do next time my perfume purveyor of choice has a 30% off deal and Coco edt is now in the running.
Vetiver Tonka for calm comfort.
I’m taking a sick day because I got no sleep. Resisting the urge to open my laptop!
? ?
This needs to be on a tshirt!
?? what a great tee shirt idea!!
?? what a great tee shirt idea!!
Must resist!! Can you get out for a walk? Hope you sleep better tonight. Hugs.
Thank you! I’ll get out for a walk after the school day is over. Even though I took a legit sick day, I’m on high alert for the “teachers aren’t really working” voices in my district.
Seriously?!? Those folks need to find something else to do. ?
Don’t open it! Rest!
Do not open the laptop! And enjoy vétiver tonka 🙂
Good luck tonight irisjasmine!
Have a good rest!
You smell fantastic.
Boo on no sleep!
I’m wearing the last bit of my Guerlain SDV decant (received from a lovely NSTer, of course). This one is for comfort. It’s beautiful and delicious, sweet but with depth, cozy and somehow very reassuring. I will need to find more.
I am really happy I bought the 15 ml 🙂
You buy perfume??? Does Donatella know??
Ha, she knows EVERYTHING.
Good morning!
I need to sort out things more — I have boxes of books and boxes of bottles and samples of perfume in my room. I’m having trouble figuring out where some of the boxes with perfume samples ended up. I found the box with Demeter fragrances last night. Experimenting with those tends to cheer me up. I sprayed on “Rosebush” at bedtime. There was a waxy aspect to the scent, and of course it didn’t last long, but it was a sweet fragrance to doze off wearing.
I cleaned out my sample box and was stunned to find many surprises! When did I order that?! It is a little like Christmas.
lol, yes. 🙂 That’s how I was when I somewhat sorted out my books. In general with collections or with tchatkes I find in random places, I’m like, “Good choice, past self” or “Why did you get this, past self?” Mostly I think my past self made choices of things I’m still interested in, if not always good choices of what to spend money on. LOL!
Demeter fragrances are really a lot of fun, especially the gourmands. Enjoy your excavation! ?
Thanks! My friend A. and I had lots of fun at various times in 2019 trying the different Demeter fragrances I’d gotten samples of, and especially enjoyed spritzing ourselves from the little bottle of Chocolate Chip Cookie fragrance. A.’s brother-in-law is an connoisseur of chocolate chip cookies, and didn’t think the smell was that accurate (lol), but A. and her sister and I enjoyed our experiments anyway. 😀
Ugh, the “time to re-org” blues!
It wasn’t too bad. 🙂 I found my bag of Comme des Garcons samples and little decants, and tried the sample of Floriental. I’m behind with the projects. I appreciate that a kindly NST person sent me CdG samples that I wouldn’t have been able to try otherwise.
However, my lemming for the Serge Lutens Datura Noir perfume that Robin mentioned on Friday is still going strong. 🙂
in the last dops of a Fleur de Peau decant, lovely but a bit sharp for me.
I wore one spray of Nahema to bed last night, and it was a delightful cloud of powdery rose. When I first tried it a few months ago (from my fragrancenet monthly allotment) i was disgusted.
Hi Coin-op!?
Twins, I like the dryness of it.
Funny how scent perception change with the day, the season and the mood. Glad you enjoy it now though
Wowza!
I bet you smell great anyway!!
That one in sitting in my evilbay cart.
Do you mind me asking how old your decant is?
it sounds like it’s not the blind buy type of scent.
I’m looking at an old bottle.
The decant of Fleur de Peau? Probably well over a year. I think if you like musk a blind buy is not the worst idea in the world. it’s really very pleasant and gets compliments.
Thanks Coin-op!
Interesting, for me Nahema is a rich, honeyed rose perfume. No powder at all with that one.
I don’t get along with Nahema but maybe I’ll try again when it gets truly cool here.
I spent a good two years of my adult life working and living in the UK,in Portsmouth,Southampton and up north(my FAVORITE place on planet earth!!)in Manchester.
It was here that I first discovered Crabtree and Evelyn’s shops. And their Vanilla perfume!!I brought a stash of everything in that Vanilla collection home with me to SA,sadly shortly after it was discontinued.
When I finally made my way to a local C&E outlet,I discovered West Indian Lime Cologne.I had a chat with lovestosmellgood involving limes last night, and that triggered me to want to dig it out for today!Fresh and lovely on a VERY hot day.And yes,it reminds me of the fond memories I still treasure about C&E,and England.Emotion:Total Happiness.
Happy Tuesday!!
XO
I still remember their Avocado Bath Oil with great fondness. I would save up to buy one bottle each year and ration it out. That was great stuff
I hate when a beloved product gets discontinued, esp with things like showergels and even shampoo for me.
I’ll never forgive Shower to Shower for discontinuing the vanilla scent they had. It was awesome.
Wow what a blast from the past! I haven’t heard that name for a long time and I used that product constantly! Thanks for the flashback!
There was always a Crabtree and Evelyn shop at the mall when I was growing up though now that I think of it, I have not seen one in years. I have the Iris shower gel and lotion which is nice! What a lovely memory!
Oh,the Iris perfume…I have backups of backups…of backups.Lol!
They are gone. The company reorganized, selling online, geared towards a younger audience — which is good, otherwise they were going to go under.
The C&E store at the mall near me closed a few years back. I used to love going there to sniff and admire the Vera Bradley handbags.
I loved their cookies and preserves as well, and the Tarocco Orange range was sooo good!
I think there is one store still standing in Johannesburg.
lovely memories! I remember buying a cellophane wrapped basket of soap for my friends birthday when I was around 11, I loved the C&E shop at our mall, it was such an escape.
Yes,their shops were always beautiful and I loved the decor elements.
lovely story! I only ever see the hand lotions around but have never tried one. Now I feel I should…
I do like their lotions.,they always smell good.
C&E! One of my favorite lines. There used to be small bath shops around here and a local vacation spot that carried everything. Lots of C&E in my house! The Patchouli is like gold to me.
I never left a store without something-something!Haha!
Me, neither! I went on a tear a few years ago to find a lot of vintage ones and I lucked out. The elusive Mysore Sandalwood is going to be an estate find, someday!
Someday,fingers crossed!
I still have the soap in the original box.
I adored their patchouli and their Sandalwood was a beautiful fragrance.
So glad you had such a positive UK experience. I live in London. C&E discontinued all their classics recently.
Yes it’s sad that they are disappearing!
London-town!
One of my favorite pubs was Theodore Bullfrog’s…the BEST burgers!?
Just googled Theodore’s…they’re actually still at the same place in London!!OMG,I might just cry!
??
It goes on my list, thank you.?
Love this, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for reading!XO
Beautiful memory johnanob, I very much enjoyed, no make that relished it, along with the other comments.
I’m dating myself here, but I loved their Summer Rain perfume, I wore it frequently while in college. Even better that it came in a line of products, lotion, shower gel, even scented drawer liners. I reached out to find they officially discontinued their Evelyn Rose line.
Such as the way of things, I’m afraid…
Happy-making scents are a great thing to have handy.
Terrific Tuesday it is! ?
Trying Memory Motel by Une Nuit Nomade today…notes from their website are below and will weigh in w/ thoughts later…
Top Notes
Bergamot
Heart Notes
Iris · Incense · Carnation
Base Notes
Mosses · Patchouli · Vanilla · Tobacco · Leather
Ooh, that one’s on my “test someday” list! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
This was quite good and I could detect all the notes which were blended well together. The tobacco is up front at first but gives way to the carnation/patchouli/leather pretty quickly. Perfectly unisex but I think some might say it leans masculine.
That’s supposed to be about one of my favorite Stones songs. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.
I love that song too.
Supposedly Hannah Honey is Carly Simon. Then again supposedly You’re So Vain is about Mick Jagger, and I think she has specifically said no, it isn’t.
Yeah.. I think Mick claimed it was about him. I also heard it was about Warren Beatty.
I have to find the article…I think she said it wasn’t about either of them. But maybe I remember wrong!
Mick sings backup on You’re so vain. “Don’t you? Don’t you?”
I remember that total eclipse of the sun when I was a kid in Nova Scotia! ? March 7th, 1970. Wow… fifty years ago…
Yes, I know!

Hot Stuff! Great photos!
For all the Bowie lovers, I came across this article a few weeks ago…

This is a link to his friend Geoff’s website… some of his photos will give you goosebumps!

Oh nice, thank you!
A 15ml travel size is currently parked in my cart. I am sorely tempted!
Have you tried it already then or a BB? Luckyscent has the discovery set back in stock now. It was OOS for a while but they alerted me it was back a week ago or so and I pulled the trigger. 🙂
Damp, gray and chilly here too so I decided to lean into it with Gris Clair. It makes me feel melancholy.
I ??? gris clair. It’s my perfume version of a cashmere jumper. You smell amazing (and slightly smoky and wonderfully warm!)
I like your cashmere sweater comparison, GC definitely has that warm softness.
Wearing Brooklyn from Gallivant for the CP because it makes me smile every time I spray it on. An instant hit of happiness in a bottle!
Great CP! I love reading all of these emotional associations.
I agree about Brooklyn!
I’m in Ormaie L’Ivree Bleue. This puts me in a calm, contemplative mood.
Calm and contemplative might be the biggest portion of my collection.
It’s good to have something like that. I also have fragrances that make me more energetic, or elegant. Even reserved.
You smell wonderful.
even though we have fires raging, its quite chilly here by the water.
A few sprays of Tigers Nest. Really good news for my newly widowed neighbor, her sister was able to obtain a compassionate visa and will be coming from Denmark in a few days time to stay for a good while.
The teapot is lovely, Robin.
Oh that is wonderful news.
I feel terrible that I have not been able to visit my step mother since my father passed earlier this year. We talk a lot though, and luckily she has family nearby.
Robin, I’m so sorry about your dad.
Apsara, I’m glad your neighbour will have some consolation in this time…
I’m so sorry about your loss. Your father must have been very proud of the person you became ?
I’m so sorry about your dad Robin….
So sorry about your father, Robin.
Well, we do the best we can with the resources we have. It’s good you are in contact.
Oh – good for your neighbour. Things are difficult at the moment
Pleased to hear that your neighbor will not be alone soon. That has to be so tough.
IA Memoirs of a Trespasser. Resinous and woodsy, with vanilla dancing around everywhere. I’m thankful I swapped for a bottle of this beauty, so snuggly on an overcast, chilly day. ?
Tea of the morning: Tazo Earl Grey and some loose leaf Teavana mate vana mixed with rooibus chai.
Went for a blood draw early this morning, just the normal routine stuff. The place was nearly empty, which suited me just fine!
Rooibos chai is pretty good!(Rooibos being proudly South African,so a bit of bias there!!)
??
I did not know rooibos originated in South Africa, johanob! It is certainly a lovely tea. ?
I discovered rooibos back in 1991 when I visited SA for the first time, still love it!
It has numerous health benefits (thank you, google), so I need to rummage in my tea baskets and find some more. Supposedly good for insomnia…
hello! 🙂
I like this cheerful lost hello, I will claim it 🙂
Thank you! ?
Me too! Good to see you in these parts, Coin-op! ??
Good seeing you too Nancy! ?
waving hi!
Hi ? Good to see you!
HIya!
What an interesting lineup of people with birthdays today! I’m in Carthusia 1681 because it’s soothing and elegant.
Seriously, the weird clusters of birthdays are enough to make me believe in astrology.
True that Robin!
I’m a June 7th baby, and share it with Prince, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, and Dave Navarro (along with Gaddafi) 😯
I see your Gaddafi and raise you an Erdogan. 😀 Musically, I get Johnny Cash, Michael Bolton and Erykah Badu (which is nice), and a whole mess of TikTok and youtube “stars” (am wondering what that says about my birth date, astrologically speaking).
SOTD = DSH’s Oeillet Rouges, to warm me up on this chilly day. In spite of the lovely scent, my emotion is aggravated. We caught a mouse last night, and didn’t have time to take him off to the abandoned quarry where we release all our furry friends who need a change of scene, so adorable hubby put him in a large cannister, with a bit of crumpled paper to snuggle in so he didn’t get cold, and some cat food nibbles, and a little lid of water. This morning, we could hear him jumping and running around in there. Just now, adorable hubby opened the cannister to give Jumping Jack some fresh water to last him until 4:00 when he could take him to his new home, but the ungrateful little beast leapt for freedom, and so now we have one angry mouse loose in the mud room…who knows what sort of havoc he will wreak…LOL. Mouses 1, humans 0 for this round!
I was so sure this story was going to end in the demise of the mouse. Good luck on your hunt!
Me too!
Me, three!
Oh no, good luck! What a funny story.
Funny and good for the mouse
This story made my day, sorry for your having to do it all over again.
That’s very kind of you and your husband. Poor mice who encounter me rarely get such kind treatment! They totally freak me out! Good luck with the capture and release!
Wow, that is way too funny a story!
I do love mice and release them when they wander indoors. During the rainy season, in our old library building, prior to the remodel, we would frequently see them zipping into the library to get dry and warm.
One ran across our admin assistant’s foot one evening. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone (other than Carl Lewis) sprint so fast! Gave us all a chuckle.
I hope you safely evict your unwanted house guest ASAP! ?
SOTD = Rania J. Ambre Loup

Question – Assuming perfume is taxable in your state, do you get charged sales tax on the original price or on the discounted price? I have noticed practice discrepancies for the past several years. For example: Sephora charges sales tax on the after discount price, whereas Bergdorf Goodman charges it on the original pre-discount price. My thoughts are that sales tax is just a funnel through to the city / state and should be based on the sale price (i.e. the Sephora method) and any cost associated with credit card processing should be included in the Cost of Goods Sold to reduce margin (and not to reduce the sales tax paid to city / state). Your thoughts please, particularly in pre- and post- discount sales tax calculation. Thanks!
I always assumed tax was collected on the sale price? But I don’t buy as much perfume as clothes…
I think maybe lillyjo hit the nail on the head with a discount vs. getting a gift card for purchasing a minimum and being able to apply the gift card immediately. I will have to observe further.
I don’t know that I have been charges tax on the full price of an item when it’s on sale but I am curious by nature and this is a reply based on NY state…but not sure why BG would be charging on the full price b/c I don’t think they fit the 2nd scenario described here…
https://tax.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1683/~/when-an-item-is-purchased-on-sale%2C-is-sales-tax-due-on-the-original-price-or#:~:text=03%3A40%20PM-,When%20an%20item%20is%20purchased%20on%20sale%2C%20is%20sales%20tax,charged%20on%20the%20reduced%20price.
Thanks for the link, She-Ra. The difference may be earning $x for purchasing a certain minimum and being able to use it immediately vs. a straight % off.
Here, we get taxed on the price you pay. If the regular price is 15 dollars and it’s half off, we pay tax on 7 dollars. Now.. there is a difference, I think if you use something equivalent to “bonus bucks” because those are concidered a form of payment, not a coupon so then you if you had 5 dollars bonus bucks, you would pay tax on the 7 dollars not on 2 dollars. If the 5 dollars was a coupon, you would only pay tax on the 2 dollars.
* I meant 7.50 not 7 dollars
I think you’re explanation makes the most practical sense and ? on the examples!
I’m glad it made sense, I was trying to type fast on my break.
I have not noticed being charged sales tax differently at BG, need to look at my receipts. I would think it should be charged on the actual sales price.
Please do let me know what you find out. So comparing different companies, Sephora, Twisted Lily (pre-ownership change…haven’t ordered post) were sale price vs. original price for BG, Saks, Costco.
Clarification – Twisted Lily in-person; no tax online.
In GA the sales tax is applied to the final purchase price (post discount that is).
I have to pay attention to % off vs. $s off for a minimum purchase.
That’s math. ?
LOL – I see that headache ?
I’ve only ever seen sales tax applied after any sales or discounts that I can recall.
If you shop at Costco, I would be curious to find out if you see a difference. I suppose I am more sensitive to this when I calculate splits and have to adjust the calculation of tax.
We do, but I haven’t ever paid attention to the receipts.
I am wearing Kiehl’s musk layered with vintage Chanel No.5 perfume.
How is that combination? Both smell divine separately.
It is great!! they complement each other really well, love it
You smell wonderful! 🙂
Bond Chinatown, from a little decant. It’s not really CP compliant; I sprayed it last night and the scent lingered and made me want more this AM. Has some root beer vibe to me. I guess I could say that this evokes memories of when I first got a sample of this – I was at a conference in San Francisco, staying right in Union Square and by random luck, had been upgraded to a really nice room overlooking Saks, and I went there when I had a free moment before dinner with my group and got a whole bunch of samples….
A question to your collective wisdom: Olympic Orchards fragrances. I’m particularly intrigued by Woodcut. Anyone want to chime in with their favorites/reviews? Thanks! 🙂
Chinatown was my first Bond perfume bought!
I guess I can give you a memory, then 🙂
???
Re Olympic Orchids: Woodcut is definitely Pacific Northwest with its fresh-sawdust scent, and Ballets Rouges is a crowd-pleaser.
Off to check out Ballets Rouges…
Woodcut is great!
Thanks for the input!
I love Chinatown and made the mistake of wearing it to bed. My husband woke me up in the middle of the night and made me shower!
I almost spewed out my tea when I read this! 🙂
LOL!
Seconding Ballets Rouges.
I’m in a new travel spray of Fleur de Lalita purchased during Indigo’s birthday sale. This is definitely a happiness inducing perfume.
I recently discovered what is nothing less then miraculous: a Japanese plant pasta substitute that has a great texture and takes on the flavor of whatever you mix it in. It’s 97 percent water! I avoid carbs at all costs so this is fantastic
Interesting about the pasta.
Do tell us more about the pasta – brand and where you bought it!
I got them from a local supermarket that tends to carry alot of health-conscious alternatives — think almond yoghurt and cauliflower chips and other such things. I don’t remember the name of the brand, but the noodles were made in Japan and came in a package of water, which you have to drain. I have to do more research about it, but it worked really well with the leftover pot-roast gravy I had!
The noodles are called Shirataki noodles (not a brand): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirataki_noodles
I order them online from Thrive Market but I’m sure there are lots of purveyors.
I do find them a better substitute (and less work) than zucchini “zoodles”.
Oooh! Thank you MissGoldsmith!
I chose Biehl mb03 today. It’s a very dry meditative incense, that sends me into an introspective mood.
A FB of this would be nice.
Biked again today and fell off the bike, because I did not get out of my click pedals fast enough. So not only my pride is hurt, but I also have a budding hematoma on my chest and a scraped knee… Anyway, the weather was beautiful and sunny and the rest of the way was a joy.
Oh I’m so sorry tannina! Hope all your wounds — including your pride — heal quickly.
You smell great, I have a FB of mb03. Your accident is why I refuse to use clipless pedals. Too many crashes!
Oh dear – hope the injury is not too bad and heals quick. It’s such a joy to get outside in the sunshine, especially at the moment!
Ouch. And well done for getting straight back on! Last time I was on a bike I fell off just cos I was out of practice and have bad balance and getting back on was a bit of a challenge 😀
Hope you will be less bruised tomorrow.
Ouch! Road rash HURTS!
Oh my! I hope you heal quickly!
Ouch! Sorry to learn of your mishap! Feel better soon.
To make me feel calm, Avignon. I really need calm. Between wanting to throat-punch coworkers and crying over The Great British Baking Show, I’m really all over the place this week. 😯
Sending calming waves your way KellyC!
At first I read you wanted to throat punch coworkers because they were crying over the British breaking show. Is it over? I only saw the first season. I should catch up. You smell great though!
No it’s not over, they’re on season 8 I believe. And they release a new episode every Friday. I was watching last season though and cried during the season finale. ?
Aw, that’s a bummer. Hoping that the rest of the week is less tempest-tossed for you!
Ohmmmm ohmmmm
Such a lovely teapot, not cheap though.
In Diptyque Fleur de Peau which makes me feel pulled together even though I am in my oldest fleece.
It is not a bargain, and I would never properly care for it anyway, so I will just enjoy the picture 🙂
I’m with you, my own everyday teapot is a sturdy blue & white willow pattern.
Oh, love willow china!
I didn’t ‘get’ fleur de peau when it came out. Might give it another try at some point.
It is a warm weather scent usually for me, so do try it in summer but meanwhile money saved?
CP-compliant in my hardiest armor-Heavenly.
It seems lots of us are going through some tough times with our furbabies. From me and my girl to everyone out there struggling, sending lots of good sniffs and hugs.
Thanks AnniePerfumes – what would we do without our furbabies? I would be lost…
SotD = Theorema
because it is so cold in my house this morning. Theorema warms me, smells delicious, and always makes me smile. 🙂
I’m loving this CP! Emotional responses to olfactory stimulus fascinate me, as do responses to auditory cues like voices and music.
I’m on an 80s music jag. The Cure is playing non-stop today. Their “Lullaby” has got me hypnotized. I’m digging this version that has been slowed slightly with added reverb:
https://youtu.be/hRWIX3hKTzM
Next up, Peter Gabriel, then Talking Heads. 😉
Hope you have a terrific Tuesday, perfumed friends.
Love The Cure!
Just Like Heaven is a favorite…
Close to me is my favorite. Love the horns.
Just Like Heaven is a song I can listen to on repeat endlessly. 😉
Theorema is wonderful – you smell so good!
thank you, Lisa D 🙂
I finally turned on the heat … it’s cr-ppy weather in these here parts
I have had one-hit wonders playing on my inner soundtrack this morning–a-Ha’s Take On Me, Alannah Myles’ Black Velvet, old Tom Rush. It’s nice! to go with it I’m wearing Mistral Patchouli, it smells a little like the past to me, in a nostalgic sort of way.
Just listened to Jefferson Airplane’s Coming Back to Me. A definite patchouli song, so sad
I watched the video for Take on Me the other day. I think that’s what started me down this musical road. 😉
Wearing vintage Eau de Patou by Patou. This brings back wonderful memories of a teen living in FL, shopping the Chanel counter with my grandmother at Jacobson’s (now defunct) department store.
Years ago, I went to SF MoMA to see a Roy Lichtenstein exhibit. It was great fun. 🙂
what a beautiful memory
Thanks Lovestosmellgood! Grandmother did her best to ensure I had a fun time out shopping with her. And of course, we enjoyed a nice lunch also. I really miss afternoons spent with her. 🙂
I loved Jacobson’s! I didn’t know they were in other areas. Thought I was special, lol. I bought my wedding dress from there, when they were going out of Bridal.
Jacobson’s did have lovely bridal dresses, didn’t they? I bet you looked gorgeous in your dress!
I loved that store, such great customer service. Sadly, they closed in 2002 after 164 years in business.
The dress was lovely, but my hair! It was so poufy! Lol
Warmer outside than inside my cold house – need to sit outside to warm up! Got some decent sleep and feeling better today. Wearing Rose Barbare.
Ohhh, glorious!
Anything is made better by a good cup of a tea or a good night’s sleep! Good for you.
Glad you’re getting better!
Very happy to read you are feeling better today. 🙂 My house was cold all day, and I didn’t dare open the windows. The air is smoky even though we are far from the wildfires.
Robin, it is also National Black Cat Day!
https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-black-cat-day-october-27/
Love this calypso. I qualify. They are the BEST cats❣️
My Miko-chan was the deepest, darkest black cat with green eyes, and a faithful companion for 22 years. The longest lasting relationship of my life, barring family. She used to sit outside at night, and when I would call her in, she would close her eyes and become darn near invisible. I could be standing three feet away from her, and not see her in the shadows. She was the best.
Aw, she sounds wonderful. The black cats I have known have also been the smartest cats!
Black cats always seem to be loaded with personality.
I had the best black cat for 19 years! Loved him so much!
I know, I saw! I think I reported that once in a SOTD and someone told me I shouldn’t…now of course I can’t remember why, something about it being near to Halloween and black cats being mistreated on Halloween?
Fools who would do mean things to black cats are unlikely NST readers! But yes that memory sounds familiar… may have come up last year.
Wow. Human stupidity amazes me freshly each day.
I am wearing ‘Eau della Cucina”: which is a combination of the anise & vanilla versions of biscotti that I’ve been baking all day.
Mostly I am completely covered in flour remnants from last nite’s bread experiment as I am in the same teeshirt today.
Happy day all.
How did the bread experiment turn out? ?
Well, thanks for asking jalapeno!
Ok, not my best effort but worth the trouble because I needed to practice my proofing skills. I got a good spring but my loaves are heavy, which I like even in a sourdough.
I could some tips if you have some.
Spent most of the day (and yesterday) in TDC Bois d’Iris, which is my go-to for rainy autumn days. It feels contemplative and a little distant, which is the mood I get on such days. Am now in Jasmin et Cigarette because I can still smell the toast my husband burned this morning and so figured I’d join the smoky party.
Pe-yew, burned toast! ?
Two great scents!
Back in armor again with Amouage Opus 1, which manages to be both happy and armor. Slogging through technical web copy for the challenging client. Chilly and mostly grey here, snow on the way Friday. Not mentally prepared for that …
I will borrow you my little South African heart which years for snow 😀
If anyone has a bottle of Dzongkha by L’Artisan Parfumeur languishing in their stash, please let me know, it’s hard to find any in the older packaging (the new packaging doesn’t appeal to me). 🙂
You smell great!
Vamp à New York, it never fails to lift my spirits or raise a smile. A perfume of pure happiness to me.
Vanilla Flash for me today. It makes me feel like I overslept and was late for work so I had to dig into the sample stash ?
Hope your day improves from there Lillyjo.
Thanks, it wasn’t too bad. I just hate having to rush out of the house before I’m fully awake.
How is Vanilla Flash? That one doesn’t seem to get mentioned much at all.
I like it a lot, it is perhaps my favourite of the collection.
I like it. It’s easy to wear, non foody.
Agree! You smell great!
Dusita Douceur de Siam has been a calming influence for the past few months.
You smell very nice!
Our rain finally passed and I got myVoile de Violette. It’s good grog. Also got a sample of Champagne de bois which makes my work room smell like sandalwood. I tried it once before, maybe I’ll like it this time. It looks like the new owner of SSS is using the same strength and formulas.
I think she’s supposed to if she’s using the same names.
Same yucky weather as Robin today, although the sun made a valiant attempt to break thru the clouds this afternoon. I hope this isn’t a preview of what Winter will be like.
Also, I’d like to give a shout-out to some people who commented late last night on my thread. I do a lot of “wraparound” reading of NST, and usually play catch up the next day. So thanks to She-Ra, MissGoldsmith, and johanob!
SOTD = the mystery sample, Day 2. The vial is labelled “Tempo”, but the perfume does not match up to my memory of Diptyque Tempo. Also, the mystery perfume is NOT a vivid peridot green like the Tempo was. So I think I my have re-used the sample vial for a different patchouli perfume and not re-labeled it. D’oh!
If it is patchouli, it could be Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver which is really more a patchouli than a Vetiver.
It was something from my sample stash, and i’m still getting patchouli and cosmetic powder. Whatever this is, it has incredible longevity. I can smell the far drydown the next morning, and it has to get showered off.
Was it Mr. Jalapeno who needed to have shoulder surgery? I hope it went well. If it wasn’t Mr. Jalapeno, I still wish the husband well, and a good recovery.
Yes, it is Mr. Jalapeno, and the surgery will happen in November. He has to have a few tests done before he goes under the knife.
Ah, okay. Hoping for the best for him. 🙂
I’m wearing BK Rose Oud today because it came up in a discussion yesterday or the day before. It’s the least oud-y scent I have (with still some old) and the rose in it is very pretty. Nice for a change of pace, but not on the CP. I’m going to have to reflect awhile to see if I have anything that works for this project. It sounds odd to say it but I”m not sure I really associate perfumes strongly with moods or emotions. With people, or time periods, or events, yes; with emotions, not so much.
Some OUD, not some OLD. Grrr.
YiXing teapots are really affordable, I like the purple clay better but to each their own. There is a beautiful selection on Ebay right now! 2 things to remember, these pots are mostly single serving so tiny and they are unglazed so porous and the pot will absorb the flavor of tea you brew in it. I have a little dragon one that I love and I just brew Jasmine Pearls in it. The price is entirely reflective of how detailed they are. Also, watched Persolaise interview Barbara Herman of Eris Perfume on his YouTube channel and it was really interesting. I have mending to do, so will put some more syrupy Slumberhouse, old samples, on my hands and that will elevate this entirely mundane experience.
I usually give up in syrupy perfumes but I bet you smell really really good.
I recently looked up the notes of your SOTD,,, it sounds really good!
Ooops, this should have been a reply to SmokeyToes.
SotD: Dans Ma Bulle. I had Red Cross CPR/First Aid training today at work, and I needed something office friendly, even though we were 4 very socially distanced people in a conference room that seats 16. It is sweet, but it has some very nice florals. My friends, peach, sandalwood and heliotrope, play paper rock scissors with pear, bergamot and something Fragrantica calls “sweet notes,” and my friends win each round. I think I already posted here about how much I like the bottle, too. When I got home, I switch to a few spritzes of my cherished bottle of vintage Rochas Mystere. It is “my kind of thing.” Happy Tuesday, all!
Yay for getting thru CPR/First Air training! It’s a good thing to have, but you probably are hoping that you will never need to use it.
Oh yes! But I am the person who sits closest to the AED in our office so I have to stand forth ?
Tuesday SOTD was a sample of Norell New York. Not loving it, but I’ll try it again. I had Monday and Tuesday off work and got so much done with a four day weekend! And now I’ll have a short work week as a bonus.
