I still have flashbacks to the sugary pungency of the Victoria’s Secret body sprays we collectively hoarded in junior high. The dollars we diligently saved from our allowances were blown in a frenzied haze of fruity floral, but the thrill of walking out of the VS store with our pink and white striped bags felt liberating, like in that moment we were adults. Likewise, the candied depth—and cutesy bottle—of Thierry Mugler’s Angel was an almost unattainable goal.

I remember wearing Pleasures, Happy and Cucumber Melon in high school. Most girls wore either Cucumber Melon or some kind of Curve offering. From time to time I will wear Pleasures and Happy.
I’m just wondering who pays 130 for pleasures? Oh well it’s Vogue. It’s funny that I was young in the 90s and can only recall pleasures and that awful Sunflowers I used to want so badly. Never smelled CK one.

I was in junior high and part of high school in the 90s, so this article mostly resonated with me. I didn’t have a lot of designer perfumes because of how expensive they were, so I mostly went for the Victoria’s Secret and B&BW body sprays and drugstore perfumes like Charlie and Love’s Baby Soft, especially in junior high. But like Dawn, I had Happy and Pleasures. I never got into Angel, but I did love ckOne, Tommy Girl, and eventually Allure in my senior year of high school.
My 90’s smelled like Pleasures and Escape and The Body Shop oils like Dewberry.
I definitely OD’d on calone and won’t be going back.
I was very tempted by the Angel bottle but never wanted to smell like candy.
I was never into VS body sprays, even in the early 90s. I was in there buying Rapture and Victoria. I can’t believe my mom let me wear Rapture when I was 15. I still don’t know if I’m mature enough for it.
But,…Escape. *sigh* That was my jam! One of the few scents I’ve ever had to buy a second bottle of.
