Saturday is Johnny Appleseed Day, and we're observing the occasion with our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite apple fragrance, your favorite apple variety, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: top image is Apple trees [cropped] by Wall Boat at flickr; public domain.
I’m wearing Solstice Scents Jaipur Chai, a warm and cozy smell for a cloudy drizzly day. I have a vanilla candle burning in my office also.
Favorite apple is a tie: SweeTango or a Honeycrisp. And I have to be specific, a Minnesota or locally grown Honeycrisp. No offense, but they’ve been ruined by expanding who grows them. Univ of MN developed them for the freezing cold winters. WA is not cold enough for the proper conditions and produces a poor crop. A true Honeycrisp is exactly that, a crisp hard snap of a bite, lush sweetness.
SweeTango is slightly more tart but just as crisp. A daily apple with almond butter is my usual fall lunch.
You know, I noticed the differences in honeycrisp between MN and OR or WA, but I figured it was just the changes that happen as they continue to breed them and tweak their characteristics. I lived in MN 12ish years ago for about a decade, and I live in Oregon now, so I was comparing fresh back then to fresh now. Interesting about the cold weather; you may be right! It’s definitely a difference.
Either way, I actually dislike honeycrisp and don’t understand the appeal of an apple that’s mostly just sweet. I like more sour to balance it out.
Try a SweeTango. More tart. The MN season goes SweeTango, Honeycrisp, Zestar and then Harrolsons. The last one is very tart.
I’m a big cider fan too, hard cider. Prefer the tart dry ones over sweet. MN has really gotten into local cider brewing.
I will try SweeTango (and Harrolsons! I eat raw Gravensteins from time to time for the sour), if I’m lucky enough to encounter them. I really miss the Twin Cities food and beverage culture! I can totally imagine some amazing cider coming out of the area. I’m in Portland now, but I still buy my coffee from a roaster in Minneapolis (Peace Coffee). Delicious!
Gravenstein apples are my favourite. I grew up in Nova Scotia where they are easily found and I miss them every year ?. I have to substitute them with anything aromatic, crisp and fresh. Cortlands, Macintosh, Northern Spy or Spartans. I’m not a fan of the “bumpy bottomed” or elongated varieties like red delicious and the like. ?
I dislike Honeycrisp as well- they don’t taste like apples to me without a little tang for complexity.
Jaipur Chai sounds wonderful!
I adore Honey Crisp apples. Apples are another reason I love the Fall season. Pumpkin needs to hold off until October 1… 🙂
Maybe that is why our local honeycrisp aren’t so fantastic?
But we do have wonderful local orchards, growing a huge variety of obscure and wonderful apples. My favorites are Adams Pearmain, Esopus Spitzenberg, Ashmead’s Kernel, Hudson’s Gold Gem, and for long term storage, Gold Rush. (Gold Rush apples are the main reason we keep a second refrigerator in the basement.)
Fantastic apple blog which I’ve probably mentioned here before:
https://adamapples.blogspot.com/2009/01/esopus-spitzenberg.html#gsc.tab=0
I planted a Spitzenberg in my apple orchard backyard project quite a few years ago! (consider the fact that I have nothing more to say on the orchard a testament to it, ermm, success).
Aw!!
Wow. That is a serious Apple blog. I’d love to learn about all these varieties but how would I then try them?
Whereas NYC is great for trying perfume, not so much for apples 😉
Farmer’s markets might be good sources, however.
During non-COVID times, our local nursery, Portland Nursery, runs an apple (and pear) tasting every October. There’s like 200 varieties, many from small, local farms, which is so great in so many ways. Maybe you can find something like that to try more types in your area?
I spent 18 months working in Beaverton back in the 80s
My mother and dad drove from Florida to California and then up to me. It was October, my mother’s birthday.
The leaves were in their glory and fresh apples filled every room at their hotel.
My parents are both gone now, but you have all provided a sweet smelling memory of apples.
This sounds so amazing.
Farmer’s markets, exactly!
We have several local orchards that do tastings, too, as Marjorie Rose says. People come and do a tasting and pick their own, and make a day of it.
Ohh this looks good! Thanks for sharing.
Love these comments; reminds me I have not been to an orchard in years. There is a big one with a farm stand not too far, so we need to go. The only apple info I have is that, shopping mostly at Kroger, I’ve found the apples that are smaller, or as they say “lunchbox size” have better flavor and texture. The giant, showy apples are always too sweet and soft for me.
I love so many types of apples. Some varieties are difficult to find now. I like tart crisp fall apples like Stayman, & York. Their quality & taste has varied much over the last years. I love a good honeycrisp. I think I will love the Sweetango!! Thanks for sharing.
For apple perfume, my go-to is Bill Blass Nude. Apple with sparkling white flowers. I wear it a lot this time of year!
Yesterday, I was going to wear Tea for Two and imagine I was Professor X from the X-men. I think he’d smell tweedy and like cigarettes (or maybe better, pipe smoke), spices, and tea. Then I reached for Ambra instead. I’m not ready for cooler weather, but it’s nice to be wearing the heavier scents again!
Nude by BB is wonderful! It’s so clean and refreshing!
Yes! I prefer it when there’s some chill in the air. In the heat it can go a bit weird, gets too big, maybe? But in the fall, it’s really lovely, and refreshing as you say.
You are convincing me to pull out my Nude. Didn’t notice the Apple…must pay closer attention.
Interesting! It’s very fruit-forward to my nose.
Yes, I agree. There don’t seem to be any fruit notes listed but years ago when I sampled BBN I thought I could smell pear quite prominently. So that was a No from me, but recently I’ve become interested in it again.
I found a sample of new Gallivant Bakhara waiting for me in the mailbox when I came back home for the weekend, so it’s naturally my SOTD.
I get a lot of beautiful iris facets with some osmanthus-apricot as well. A lovely fragrance from Ralf Schwieger. If you liked Iris Nazarena, Bakhara will be also to your liking.
Oh my, that sounds lovely.
It is
Thanks for the info on Bakhara. It sounds interesting!
Happy to help a bit
Oooh, lemming!!!
Sorry, not sorry ?
Thanks for the mini review!
My pleasure
Iris Nazarena. You said the magic words. ❤️
Look! There goes a new lemming.
Hope you like the new Gallivant!
This one is calling my name!
Same for me
I tested some Vilhelm Parfumerie scents today.
Morning Chess – someone in the comments here mentioned that this is a smoky citrus scent. Unfortunately, to me it smelled very dirty and animalic (kind of like manure)! ? Maybe I need to try it again another day.
I liked the other two I tested. A Lilac a Day is a sunny green lilac (flowers and leaves), even though something slightly synthetic appears later. Very pretty.
Basilico&Fellini starts with a mouth-watering basil note. Then it gets a bit weird – dry fig and hay. I am not sure I entirely liked that later stage, but it was an interesting experience. I would like to get samples of both the lilac and the basil perfumes and to test them longer.
News unrelated to perfume. Apparently, my choir will finally perform at a live concert (postponed several times for obvious reasons). According to the current COVID rules, the auditorium has to be only 50% full (staggered seating) and the audience members will have to wear masks, even though the performers will not. It is a weird life nowadays.
Thank you for the mini reviews of the Vilhelm scents! I was curious about all three of those! A fresh basil note sounds so wonderful. . .
Basil-centric scents are kind of scarce, in my opinion. Maybe this note does not last long, so it is hard to build a perfume around basil.
That’s a good guess. Fresh basil is one of my favorite things to stick my nose into! Do you like the Mrs. Meyers Basil-scented products? I like them, but I don’t think they smell like basil.
Unfortunately I have not tried the basil-scented ones.
I agree but still like them. Just bought the hand soap today, in fact.
Won’t the performers also have to be quite spaced out? Breathing out while singing is a serious danger to others around you (and to you too if you’re in the midst of them). I hope you will be safe.
We have been practicing live since June sitting close to each other, so there is no point in spacing out at the concert. We need to hear each other well. The hall is big, so the audience will be at a safe distance.
Well, it’s exciting, and I know your statistics are very low. I guess Ibwas thinking about how it would be here.
I understand your concern. My mother, for example, decided not to attend.
Compared to big shows, it is going to be a fairly small (for a concert) gathering. Probably around 150-200 people in the audience, mostly friends and family members of the performers (and some live in the same household). Of course it is possible that we might be cancelled at the very last moment.
Hearing your choir news makes me so happy, because it gives me hope that we’ll be able to perform again in the not too distant future. Our fall concert will be virtual, where we record ourselves in our respective homes and then a sound engineer puts it all together. In fact, I have to run out and pick up my costume for that in a moment!
I hope your concert will go well. Are you rehearsing live?
Thank you. I hope you perform soon too. We did some virtual recording, but by now live performances are slowly returning. Yes, we are rehearsing live.
I like their Modest Mimosa but am not ready to pay full price for the bottle.
Yes, I think their scents are overpriced.
Wearing a decent drip of EldO Like This from my sample and golly, isn’t it just perfect for crisp fall weather.
I find with a lot of perfumes I sample, I love on the first wear but less on subsequent tries (Tea for Two sadly went this way, the tobacco got to me) but Like This is instead growing on me.
We had a McIntosh tree in my backyard growing up and would have to compete with the neighborhood deer for the apples come fall. As a result we usually had them very slightly underripe, and so my preference has always leaned towards crisp and a little tart. Pink Lady is my pick, although Granny Smith works well also.
Like This is so nicely spicy, and great for fall. You smell marvelous.
I love Pink Lady apples!
You and TOMK both. When we were in The Hague there was a place that sold bottles of Pink Lady apple juice. :^)
Oh yum! I bet that’s wonderful!
I really enjoy Like This, and I agree, it’s perfect for fall. I’ll have to pull out my travel spray/decant. Thanks for the reminder!
It’s going to be pretty warm in SF. I was going to wear Nude by Bill Blass but I decided on Coriandre by Jean Couturier instead – loads of oakmoss and patchouli. I’m headed out for a four-mile walk. I took yesterday off and need to get back to business! 🙂
Enjoy your walk!
You smell wonderful. Hope your walk was great – DH and I did a cancer support center fundraising 5k walk in a soft, cool, cloudy day with breeze and leaves falling. I usually don’t walk that far and we both were reminded how good you feel after. The social part was “virtual,” with an on-line kickoff, and we missed seeing the crowds at the finish line, having apples and bananas, and hearing the peppy announcer. The concept was don your tee and take a selfie at the end. On your honor to measure and go the distance!
Victoria’s Secret Enchanted ?, I think that’s the name, is long retired. I scooped one up on ebay a few years ago and it is a fun, fizzy bright apple scent that makes me smile.
Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac remnants are swirling around. This is a really unique vanilla. I love this one. My husband said, “Now I know what expensive smells like.”
?
Happy weekend, all!
Is that because he knows the price or because it’s just so exquisite :)?
Both!?
This perfume lives up to its name!
I haven’t tried Absolute Aphrodisiac. I tried Side Effect and Blessed Baraka from Initio and think I gave those samples away.
And I like both straight up and mixed vanilla.
I loved both Side Effect and Blessed Baraka.?
My email is username @ the geeeeeee male. Dot. Calm.
I can send you some.?
Hello fragrant friends,
I’m a honeycrisp gal myself.
What a week!
All interviews ended up with two job offers. Accepted one, resigned yesterday. Doubled my salary. I am so grateful I could weep. And I slept the sleep of someone who has resigned from a role that made them miserable.
Blind bought a small Noteology vanilla vetiver and have the box to open today for post shower.
Mani pedi outside later today.
I have one week off between jobs. Am looking forward to seeing my friends baby who was born before shutdown and now uses a sippy cup!
YAY, so happy for you apsara!!! Week off is a bonus.
thank you all so much! it must have been looking glowy on zoom interviews that did the trick!
Wow, congratulations on the new job…that is wonderful! I love it when people increase their earnings by large margins especially women as they often aren’t paid what men are for the same roles.
Please post what you think of that vanilla…someone mentioned it in a thread a week or two ago and I almost blind bough it myself but I had just ordered a bunch of samples from two different sites and it felt too gluttonous. 😉
Well, I worked for a non profit – so I went in knowing what they paid. That was a choice I made. But now I am back in private sector.
The bottle leaked. it had oil all over it and looks to be about 1/4 empty. I was sooooooooo disappointed as I have purchased only three fragrances in all of 2020.
Its vanilla blast at the opening, not overly sweet. Moving now to be quieter and quite lovely. It is not as complex as Jo Malone Golden Vanilla and Vetiver.
I will see how it wears the rest of the day and report back. She-ra I think you would like in your world of all things vanilla.
But I want to see if they respond to my email about the condition of the bottle.
Thanks for your thoughts. They should replace it and hopefully will.
She-ra,
Have you tried Absolutely Aphrodisiac? Are you all about pure vanilla or do you enjoy blended, as well?
Congratulations on the new job! Marvelous! Enjoy the mani-pedi and baby!
wonderful news – new job and double the salary! Treat yourself this week!!
What great news! My best smile of the day. Congratulations! Enjoy the time off and seeing that sweet baby,
YAY! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY! Wow. That’s such great news – it made my day.
Congrats on the new job! Enjoy the weekend!
Congratulations! That is fantastic news; enjoy everything this week!
Congratulations on the new job! It’s amazing the stress relief that comes with bidding something negative good-bye. And double the salary! That’s a huge win, good for you.
So happy for you! Congratulations!
Wow! So great! Enjoy and celebrate the time before you start the new position!
Congratulations! A better job and a lot more money.
Oh, gosh, WELL DONE! Resign a job you hate, walk into a new job at twice the pay, all in the middle of a pandemic – the Gods are smiling on you. What a tribute to your abilities! :^)
I am kind of amazed myself!
Yayyy!!!!
Congrats on the new job-adventure!
????
Congratulations! That’s so wonderful. I know the relief that comes from resigning from a job that makes you miserable.
It’s so nice to hear good news during this difficult time. Congratulations on your new job!
Congratulations, that is so wonderful!
Offering perfumed high-fives all-round! How wonderful you got that job!!!!! I’ve been at my job for 22 years, and I still remember the day I quit the old job, not knowing what was next, but knowing that there had to be both good pay and satisfaction in a job. (Will admit pay was a thought…) As soon as I started the new job, I wondered why I had held on so long…all the best in this new start, A!!!!
Excellent news! Congratulations!
Congratulations!!! That is so wonderful! It’s a shame that employers take good workers for granted and underpay them if they can, and for you to have found such a much better job in this economy — well, you are heroic! Enjoy your well-earned hiatus between jobs.
Congratulations, apsara!
Congratulations! I’m thrilled for you.
What fantastic news! Congratulations!
Congratulations!!!!
Today I am continuing with the Initio testing by wearing Psychedelic Love. I am usually not a fan of heliotrope in large quantities (too much Play-doh), but this is nicely balanced, and never gets to the point where I consciously notice the heliotrope. Odd, because it seems to be one of the major components. Doesn’t get too powdery, which is also good. I don’t love it as much as I did the Absolute Aphrodisiac, but I could see if you were a fan of Shalimar, Barbara Bui, or heck, even Habanita, this might be really enjoyable.
I have some questions today please:
1. Where are folks doing virtual perfume sniffings? I have seen some events in emails from Osswald and Arielle Shoshana but wanted to know if others are happening.
2. I read tons of perfume reviews but I don’t watch YouTube videos of reviews. Are there any good YouTube reviewers that people recommend?
Sampling Creamy Vanilla Crumble today and trying not to buy more jewelry on Etsy. I have bought 4 rings in the past month?…which is a new thing…haven’t bought jewelry in a long time but began checking out different shops a few months ago, then pulled the trigger on one ring and it appears to have been a slippery slope. The rings do not come out of my perfume budget of course either which is nice. And I don’t have a perfume budget. Also nice. 😉
I want to know, too – I missed a few virtual events and was hoping more would pop up. Tigerlily perfumery in SF did quite a few earlier in the pandemic, it may be worth getting on their mailing list!
Thanks, will sign up.
I’m friends with Dana, A Nose Knows. She’s more off the stream and doesn’t talk about what’s lauching now.
Maybe Looking, Feeling, Smelling Great? He does reviews for Cafleurebon too.
I second Looking, Feeling, Smelling Great.
lucasai, I really like your friend Dana’s nose, her knowledge, and her attitude. I first encountered her on Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews; she was a guest, and I liked her reviews better than the host’s. 🙂
Thanks! Added to the list.
Hi She-ra!
I am by no means a huge Youtube watcher but I like Persolaise’s perfume reviews for his humor and eloquence. The downside is they tend to be long because there is a conversation taking place with his audience, but you can skip through that if you don’t watch them live.
I recently discovered TheTopNote youtube channel when searching for reviews of Le Lion and I found the Australian host very charming (although I did not have the same experience with Le Lion as she did). She does not do in depth reviews of most perfumes (mostly offering blurbs of this and that) but she has quite an impressive perfume collection.
I can offer no help with no. 1.
Hope you’re having a nice weekend ?
I second Persolaise. I enjoy him and his reviews very much!
Thanks, floragal!
Thank you…added to my list. 🙂
Delicious Delights is a good one to watch. Smurfygurly too. I really like U Smells Good for Chanel and Guerlain and Malle reviews.
Thanks…added to the list and I do remember Smurfs. 😉
A few other fun channels are Fragrance with Ami, Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews and Super Dacob.
I agree with lillyjo on Smurfygurly and U Smells Good!
I have a bit of a crush on Eugen! Lol..
Thank you, Gail!
I’m another who prefers reading reviews to watching videos, but more and more seems to be video. I’ll read the recommendations with interest 🙂
I prefer reading reviews, as well. I like to peruse information at my own pace. Also, I get tired of all of the ads and the visual distractions of pop-ups.
Another person who prefers reading perfume reviews to watching them.
I prefer reading (and writing) reviews. It’s so much more relaxed and relaxing. I’ve watched a couple of video reviews and I just really didn’t enjoy them. Too much hype.
I did a Perfume Posse Zoom with several NST folks….not exactly a perfume sniffing but virtual perfume discussions. There may be more in the near future if you are interested.
Thanks, CM!
That was so much fun!
Thomas from Ouch110 is great, very knowledgeable and lovely to listen to. I second Smurfygurly.
Oh yes, Thomas is great!
Thanks, Cicely!
A new favorite of mine is Yve Spiders Smells. Don’t be put off by her low subscription numbers. She gives thoughtful, not overly long reviews accompanied by her own piano playing softly in the background. She also posts fairly frequently, which is a bonus.
I also really like Olfactofiles, who is a straightforward, no-nonsense reviewer, and in addition to reviews does a number of tags, declutters, and other perfume-related topics. Highly recommend!
Thank you, farouche!
I participated in the Perfume Posse zoom meeting, not reviews but fun. Waft from the Loft is a couple of Brits who do video perfume reviews from the organ loft of a church. 4160 Tuesdays just did a crowdfunded fragrance with them called (of course) Waft from the Loft.
Thank you!
It was so great to finally “see” you! Tu est tres jolie. Et votre francaise est parfait.
Merci! It was fun to see and hear you too!
I think I would be correct to say that NST’s own Jessica has/is doing some sniff-a-longs?
You are correct!
I don’t typically watch YouTube reviews so I am no help there.
As to Sniffalongs:
– Sniffapalooza, modest $12.50 registration fee and include a pack of samples worth more than that. You get special gift with purchase. Zoom ?. You do have to sign up as soon as you get the notice as they sell out pretty quickly.
– OsswaldNYC, $50 registration fee and includes a pack of samples that are worth perhaps 75% of the amount paid. You get a $50 credit towards a FB purchase within a month of the sniffalong. I’ve attended 2 so far — the IG Live one was not as effective as they were in a hurry to keep it down to under 60 minutes. The 2nd one was via Zoom which I liked so much better.
– Arielle Shoshana – I think the fee was $12 plus tax and you get a sample pack worth a little bit more than that. Zoom?. Not clear on promotions.
– Jessica – she does a wide variety and I believe the registration fee varies. The next one is on October 7 on the scents of Studio 54. I’m supposed to get a sample pack but I have not received it yet. Zoom ?I believe this one sold out pretty quickly.
I would love to know what the Studio 54 samples are, once you get them.
I will report back!
Thanks! I get Sniffapalooza emails but must have missed that.
I got on the upcoming Studio 54 event too. Really looking forward to it and even getting out of work early for it since I’m on the west coast. No samples yet for me either, but I’m pretty curious what we’ll get.
My knowledgeable perfume people didn’t fail me! 😉 Below are lists summarized (to the best of my ability) w/ the above comments in case others are interested. Thanks so much!

OMG you are so great to consolidate this for us! I am going to cut and paste now!
Also I too love Persolaise.
I love the Persolaise reviews
I participated in the recent Sniffapalooza Zoom and it was fun. I found a great vanilla! I’m grateful to know other places are doing virtual perfume things, too. Thanks for asking the question!
Which was the great vanilla you discovered?
Absolute Aphrodisiac. The husband is a huge fan of vanilla, but this is a really unique one to me. There’s some light floral, which I normally dislike, and a musk/ mixed in. A verrry sexy vanilla.? Enough for him to drop the $$$ on it!
No scent yet – I’m scrambling because a late night get together with friends evolved into an overnight trip today, and part of the reason for the trip is an interview assignment I have to do for one of my classes – the interviewee lives in a remote, no internet place and so a Zoom interview was not possible.
But – I love a good apple, but cannot really get excellent ones in NorCal. Fujis are most reliable here. I miss my German or Swiss apples, particularly Cox Orange!
Love Cox Orange.
I like Gala, Pink Lady and Lady Alice apples. I tend to prefer very crisp and not too sweet. So, generally that leaves out Fuji or Honeycrisp, although as may want to seek out MN Honeycrisp.
Couple of spritzes of Champaca as I met a friend for breakfast and a bit of a walk before heading to my haircut appointment. Was tapping my toes, waiting to end quarantine to make that appointment. Today was first possible date. My hair just cannot abide getting close to shoulder length. It starts whispering, “must go shorter. Must go shorter.”
I’m rocking a Roseanne Roseannadanna look right now – can’t remember the last time I had a professional haircut.
Feels good to get a cut after so many months not!
For me, I’m going longer again. Last salon visit was not the best experience and can’t find the energy to find a new place to try.
The quarantine was just the two weeks after travel. My last haircut was July 1, so it wasn’t too long ago. My hair had just reached a stage of length where it just hangs there. If I could have long hair like yours, I would.
Finished up my cleaning/organizing thing and wore Cuir de Russie. My candle count right now stands at 30. Since I’ve taken my shower, I am wearing Epic. Just looked at my Sephora and Ulta rewards. Didn’t realize that I have close to $25 in Ulta rewards. I am not a massive apple fan in perfume, it’s a whole different matter when it comes to candles. When i did my candle inventory, I counted 14 straight up apple candles. I do enjoy an apple crisp and apple strudel when it comes to eating apples though.
Wow! That’s impressive. Do you have a favorite apple candle?
I love the Bath and Body Works Honeycrisp Apple and Apple Weather ones. Not a fan of the pumpkin apple or apple pie. I like the straight up apple candles.
30 candles!! Wow. I don’t think I have even one!
Living in a rural area means that the electricity goes out on a regular basis and candles are a necessity. Plus candles can add a nice scent to a room.
All true!
Hello Fragrance Friends!
I have been neglecting you I’m afraid. An unsettling mixture of lots to do, and an ever-waning appetite for doing it.
I am pretty fed up of working from home and never seeing anyone new. Just TOMK and me since mid-March – all our intended visitors had to cancel. All the festivals and activities have been cancelled through to at least February (Carnival the latest announced victim). I can’t complain too much, because I’m still working, and the climate is good, and a lot of people have it worse. But y’all know what I mean. :^)
Another few pluses – finally got our residencies sorted out, that’s a big thing. Managed to transfer our private health insurance from the UK provider to a Spanish subsidiary – means we have no wait periods and our “pre-existing conditions” are as they were in 1999. I can assure you, our “existing conditions” are not! :^D
Apples – nope, don’t care for them. I grew up at a time when apples, oranges, grapefruit, bananas and grapes were all you got year round, and I had my fill. TOMK is a fan.
Now cider (hard cider) on the other hand! Spain has some great sidras from the Northern coast. I have a new-to-me brand in the fridge now while my dinner is roasting in the oven, Maeloc apple and blackberry.
Hope everyone is doing okay despite all the crazy. Can’t believe that 2020 still finds ways to be worse, so often, so late into the year. Stay well!
My mom only buys the cheapest, mushiest “easy to store,” modern Red Delicious apples. Grew up thinking apples were always mushy and tasteless. Now, I WILL NOT eat them unless I’m stuck at a truck stop on a road trip and can’t find any other fruit!
Those Red Delicious are awful.
I’ve tasted heritage varieties of Red Delicious, and they are much better! I’m guessing they don’t store as well, though.
The ones I can get in the grocery store are usually just as you describe them, though – kinda tasteless, grainy and prone to mushiness.
“Back in the day” red apples came from Canada. Shiny and lovely looking, but grainy in texture.
TOMK is fond of Pink Lady from New Zealand.
Odd little apple factoid: I have not seen cooking apples for sale anywhere outside the UK and Ireland. Usually the Bramley variety, they are deliciously tart and hold their shape when baked.
Bramley apples sound great! My late aunt always canned pie apples for use in quick pies all winter. I never learned what variety she used, and I’ve done some experiments trying to find the perfect type that have good flavor and texture. Sounds like Bramley apples would be worth trying out!
Glad to see you here again and know that you are doing fine! Let’s hope for a better 2021!
Ah, 2021. Let us hope. But don’t bet the farm on it. ;^)
I agree. I’m setting my sights on 2022. Glad to see you back!
Nice to see you ???
And please pass me a hard cider!!!
Done! :^D
???
Good to see you here!
Ah, Johano! We have just passed out Summer over to you! Take care of it, we’ll need it back next March. :^D
Haha!I am clinging on to Summer for dear life!!
But you can have a share in March, sure…?
I used to be really burnt out on apples too because, like you, it was one of the few fruits we had regularly growing up. I’m starting to enjoy them again though.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I have Greek yogurt with fruit for breakfast, usually berries, and I try to have 4 different kinds. If I’ve run out I will reach for TOMK’s apples and they are very nice indeed. But I still just don’t think of them except in emergencies. :^)
I will take a hard cider as well lol
Good to see you back! I have to think if I have ever knowingly had hard cider ?.
It’s a great Summer drink over lots and lots of ice. I prefer plain apple to flavoured or fruity ciders, and I like to back smaller producers with natural ingredients. Although Irish “Bulmer’s” cider (called “Magner’s” in the UK; UK “Bulmer’s” is a different company) is very good for a mass market cider.
If you prefer non-alcoholic drinks, there are alcohol-free ciders. Also there’s an Irish soft drink “Cidona” that I miss, it is the only soft (i.e. non-alcoholic) apple drink in the world worth going out of your way to find. I would imagine somewhere in NY/NJ there’s an Irish import shop that will have Cidona along with other favourites like Tayto crisps and Clonakilty black pudding… :^D
It’s lovely to see you! I was wondering about you and TOMK the other week. I’m glad you’ve been able to get so much sorted out.
2020 has kept me from much active commenting too, although not from wearing a ton of perfume. The advantage of WFH, although I am not shy in the real world either! Good to hear from you.
No sotd yet. My apple favorites are Mac, Pink Lady, Empire and Granny Smith. Like others, I am a fan of crisp and tart apples!
Making a batch of beef and barley soup today. Happy weekend everyone!
Send me some beef and barley soup please!
Here you go ?
Thanks for the reminder – I loved this as a kid!
I like Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Gala. My doggy loves to eat small pieces of Red Delicious, so I always have them around.
I am not a big fan of apple scents, but just for fun I have a bottle of CBIHP Gathering Apples that I usually wear in early fall. Like Dawn, I also enjoy apple candles and I burn them until the fall season is over. I find them very comfy and uplifting.
Wearing Barbara Bui Le Parfum. It is a warm, humid and cloudy day and I am enjoying it. I went for a walk very early in the morning and I postponed all my errands for next week. I am feeling tired and lazy, so I will relax and stay home for the rest of the weekend.
Yay for relaxing and being lazy!
?
I did “tired and lazy” today – I am taking some days of work as holiday, although there is no question of going anywhere. “Tired and lazy” works!
I works indeed! I am also planning on taking few days off next month. Not going anywhere, but at least I won’t have to wake up early to work!
Barbara Bui is a recurring lemming clarion call that keeps getting drowned out. I think you smell wonderful, though!
Thank you, MossyBerry! ?. Barbara Bui is a nice, no-brainer and office friendly scent. If you would like to try it, email me at monica67 at aol dot com
Today was a good day for relaxing and doing not much at all.
Thats what I did! It was a very quiet, but comforting day. I may repeat it tomorrow again
I had a cat who loved apples. Gala seemed to be her favorite.
My dog used to love Empire, but one day he just stopped eating them. Now his big favorite is Gala!
I meant Red Delicious!
Wet and windy day here, which is all the excuse I need to stay on the couch. I can still smell last night’s sample of Amouage Opus VI, so I haven’t even had to expend energy choosing a perfume.
I’m still thinking about yesterday’s Moth. I get a different impression every sniff! Sometimes I get a lovely honey note, other times I get something unpleasantly chemical. That’s dabbing from a sample, I’ll be very interested to spray it, if I get the chance.
Apples – I generally have one a day as part of my lunch. My favourites probably have different names in different parts of the world – Pacific Rose, Eve, Jazz, but SweeTango sounds like it might be the same.
In other news, my beloved and I were very sad to say goodbye to our cat a few days ago. We’d had Missy for 18 years and the house seems very empty without her. She was at least 20, very old and increasingly frail, and the vet agreed the time was right. Missy was fast asleep on the couch when the vet arrived, which was perfect, because we didn’t want her to be scared in her last moments.
Remember Me seemed like an appropriate perfume (applying the Me to Missy rather than myself, of course).
I am so sorry to hear about your cat, Gaynor. Sending comforting hugs.
So sorry for your loss. Hugs.
Sending hugs!
Such a hard moment with an elderly pet. So sorry for the loss, although it sounds like it was the right decision (which doesn’t always make it easier).
I’m so sorry, sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your cat, it sounds like she went peacefully after a wonderful life with you.
Another hug – she was very loved I am sure!
So very sorry for your loss. What a beautiful life you gave her. I tried Remember Me for the first time earlier this week and was more and more impressed with it as the day went…developed nicely and the drydown was beautiful. Big hugs to you.
So sorry to hear about your beloved kitty. It hurts when it’s time for them to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Hugs. ?
Hugs I lost my cat 2 months ago:( He was nearly 13.
I’m so sorry about your kitty. Hugs to you.
I’m very sorry for your loss, Gaynor.
Hugs to you, Gaynor.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. It sounded like you and Missy had a wonderful life together.
I’m very sorry about your Missy. It’s good you had her so long and that she could go in peace.
My condolences on your beloved, Missy.
Sweet touch with the perfume. Remember Me sounds perfect.
Even when it’s their time to go it doesn’t hurt any less. Sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry you had to let go of your sweet kitty.
So sorry you lost a beloved cat, I miss mine, you will get comfort from knowing you gave your pet a wonderful life.
Sorry about your Missy ?
18 years is a glorious run, she must have been so happy with you! Hope that soon the memories can be a comfort, but I know it’s tough.
Wearing Tauer LDDM from a mini today, haven’t worn it in over a year. I like it, but remember that when I have smelled it the first time from a friend many years ago when I was a perfume novice, I thought it was smelling like nasty BO. I have no idea why right now, there is zero association with BO. In fact, I even like cumin in perfumes ?
Apples… I like to eat them, though not on an empty stomach because it will cause high acidity. In perfumery I am not a big fan. I don’t even know many with apple accord, only Boss Bottled comes to mind and I don’t like it.
I have yet to meet the apple fragrance I like either, Sebastian.
I am not surprised ?
Excited for some college football today. Definitely a different feel because of the way they’re doing it with COVID but I makes me happy nonetheless.
I’m commando so far but about to spray some Shalimar edt for some cozy couch time.
Honeycrisp apple are my fav. I don’t have any apple scents that’s I’m aware of. I do love apple pie, apple crisp, and hard ciders too lol. My Granny used to make “baked apples” as a side dish but they were more like dessert. Sliced apples, a little sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, and some butter. Sooo good.
Your Granny’s recipe sounds delish!
That does sound delicious. I can see the apple slices, shingled in an oblong baking pan, bubbling away….yum!
I guess we are allowed to report when we are scentless as well?Apart from the faint smell of Pear’s Soap and leave-in conditioner,I went commando today.
Summer is in the air, level 1 lockdown commenced, and the swimming pool is crystal blue.Life is still beautiful.
Happy Weekend!
XO
I am often scentless and still feel free to report on my day. No one’s complained yet that I’m off topic. ?
Nice to hear from you!
Nice to “see” you as well,Marjorie Rose!?
Life is still beautiful. Thank you for that.
I know for some folks it is really hard to see-or seek even-beauty around them, but we must,if we’re gonna survive this year and decade!
XO
Life is indeed beautiful! Every time I go out in nature I am reminded of that. We are having a gorgeous summer-like day and I spent two hours out in the park soaking it up.
Glad you are having a gorgeous day!??✌?
Nothing wrong with popping in here to say you aren’t wearing perfume. ?
Redeeming myself in The Body Shop Red Musk today!
Scented or not, you smell fantastic!?
Are you sure you don’t want to trade your spring for my fall? I will throw in some extra bags of leaves… tempting isn’t it?
Haha…thanks but nooooo….
Happy Sunday!You smell fabulous today!
XO
Level 1 lockdown is good, I take it? Scent or no scent, please visit often!
Level one is awesome, albeit a bit too early for my liking, luckily people are still adhering to mask and hand hygiene protocols in public.Despite the number of deaths, our recovery rate is at almost 90%!!
Things are looking up!
Swimming pool? That sounds so wonderful. I hope you had a great swim.
I had a great splash today,just before brunch.Weather was a perfect 28 celcius!
Happy Sunday!
XO
Yay for a crystal blue swimming pool!
Double yay for a cloud-free blue sky!?✌?
Enjoy your summer weather!
xxxoo
Just getting up! It’s been a loonngg work week and very nice to slowly ease into the day.
Dabbed on Honor by Amouage, a brand I know very little about but this is lovely! Would make a perfect wedding day scent and fitting as my husband and I head out to dinner in a bit to celebrate our 20th 🙂
Intrigued by all the variety of apples out there. I would like to learn more and eat more! Will see what I can scope out tomorrow at the farmer’s market.
Honour was the last Amouage that I really liked. That reminds me to bust out the body butter that I have of it.
Oh, wow! That must be amazing.
The Amouage bath and body stuff is fabulous.
Happy anniversary! Next year is our 20th as well.
Happy Anniversary!??
Happy Anniversary, Floragal. Enjoy dinner! ?
Happy 20th Anniversary! May you enjoy many more. ✨???
Happy anniversary! You smell marvelous!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy 20th!
Happy Anniversary!
Curious what your wedding fragrance(s) were? ?
Yes I’m curious too!
Can’t recall as fragrance was not much of a focus for me 20 years ago.. 🙂
Happy Anniversary! I hope you had a lovey dinner.
Happy anniversary, floralgal! I hope you had a wonderful dinner last night, and find some apples today. ? ?
Thank you all!
Hope you had a wonderful time for this momentous landmark.
I used the last of my larger decanting sprays bottles in the recent NST swap. My go-to place is no longer in business and I wondered if anyone could recommend a place where I could buy 5 ml and 8 or 10 ml sprayers?
Thanks in advance!
I buy mine on Amazon – and they’re ok, but yours are much nicer.
I’m so disappointed that Pilot Vials is no longer in business! I have tons of 2 and 3 ml sizes, but don’t use them as much. Thanks, I will try Amazon.
I buy from bestbottles.com.
Thank you, cazaubon!
I asked Hajusuuri this very question a few weeks ago and her answer is below. Not affiliated w/ SKS but I am affiliated w/ Hajusuuri. 😉
I like the 3, 5 and 10mLs clear glass with natural sprayers and caps the best from SKS
https://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/G3.html
Thanks, She-Ra!
I heartily endorse SKS ?
Thanks, H!
I have bought from Seattle4 on Ebay for years.
Many thanks, Omega.
Warm, sunny and fabulous today! Went for a bike ride to the river, then hung out in the park for two hours. Wearing Memo Manoa, a wonderful opoponax scent that is sadly discontinued.
that scent sounds lovely:)
Your outdoors time sounds great!
SOTD is Jacomo Parfum Rare edt. I love it so; it vies with Estee Super as a “signature” though I have given up on that concept. Also, I will throw out again a question I had about the .27 oz travel samples that are sold on Fra..net. Can they be refilled, and if so, how do they open? They have a twist up sprayer; they are not what Fra..net sells as the u-fill travel sprays. Have a good weekend, all!
Yes, the travel sprays can be refilled. They have a twist function that makes the sprayer pop up or down. Once the sprayer is up, you can pull on it, and the glass vial will slide out of the metal outer casing.
Ha – perfumed high five – it was so easy to do, but until I read your comment, I was afraid to tug too much and break it! Thanks again!!
I get it. “Hmmm, I’m just going to pull on this little thingy here and – whoops.”
Opal apples, hands down my fave and great for apple pie:)
Apple in a scent, no thank you:).
Sotd sunscreen and hand wipes lol
agree! Opal apples are the most delicious yellow apple I’ve ever eaten. 🙂
Oh, forgot about those and I like them too. If I am not buying local, that is my favorite.
Today I got home from work and decided to clean out one of my dresser drawers that was filled with junk, junk, and more junk (bit of a procrastinator). It was quite liberating to see all that stuff go bye-bye. I then decided to make a sort of collage in my now empty drawer with a few things I kept – a couple of fan magazines, an advertisement for Lovely w/SJP in that classic pink dress, a foreign coin, a pair of makeup brushes still in the package, some old bank statements. I feel like every one of those pieces spoke to me about something, not sure what about, but it was nice to get a little creative with something, even if it was just a dresser drawer.
Oh and today’s SOTD, just a little Gardenia.
Nothing like a good clean to spark joy
I love the collage idea.
Apples, hmm. I think I overdosed on apples in my 20s when I had one with my lunch at work every single day. I rarely eat fresh apples nowadays, but I love a good apple crumble made with tart apples. And apple blossoms, oh my! I think they are the most beautiful of all orchard blossoms, with a lovely delicate scent. But I can contribute a favorite book that discusses apples: Elizabeth Goudge’s Gentian Hill. The main character is raised on a farm in Devon with an apple orchard, and there are beautiful descriptions of the heirloom apples and traditions like the Wassailing of the Apples.
Wow, I had never heard of EG and her wikipedia page is fascinating, the story of the plagiarism is really interesting.
Thanks!
Late to the party, but I learned of several woman writers from reading the wonderful novels of Barbara Pym. She mentions Elizabeth Gouge, Ivy Compton-Burnett, and Charlotte Yonge. I also got onto Mrs. Humphrey Ward’s novels following various rabbit trails from Miss Pym! Some of this writers can be found in better used book stores or your local library, but Ebay can save the day. Point is, Barbara Pym is one of the greats. IMHO. She mentions perfume in one of her novels……I must follow up!
I haven’t yet applied a new scent today, because I spritzed some vintage Emeraude last night and it was still very evident all morning! The spray I have belonged to my late mother-in-law, and it does remind me of her (I loved my MIL very much). I’ve never worn it “analytically”, though, and I really should get to know it better.
Thanks, floragal!
Sometimes the site can’t handle the speed of my comments. 😉
Where’s austenfan, the apple-eating machine?
SOTD = People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo
From the split hosted by springpansy. It smells very very nice ?. I jokingly mentioned that if you want a more expensive version, buy Tom Ford Lost Cherry.

I still have a 6” x 2.5” warm to the touch hive on the crook of my arm on the exact location where I sprayed Initio Magnetic Blend 7 on Thursday evening from a sample. It is itchy but I am trying my very best not to scratch it; instead, I have been patting it every so often. I know it will take a few days to subside.
Apples – I don’t like them much except when they’re in an apple pie. Apples in perfume – Kilian Apple Brandy, SSS Equestrian and St. Clair Pandora.
That’s a pretty large hive. Are you able to put any anti-itch medicine on it?
Hydrocortisone, but only once a day…I could apply more often but I have chosen to let it be except before bedtime.
Oh no! That’s quite the reaction. Hope it calms down
I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Oh goodness I bet that itches so bad!
It’s definitely better today.
So sorry about the hive! That sounds awful.
I have a sample of PotL coming in a swap. I haven’t smelled it in years, so I’m excited to try it again. I think it lines up more with my tastes these days.
I was going to name Equestrian as my favorite apple perfume, but thanks for reminding me of Eve. Another great use of apple in that one. Maybe I’ll wear both of them soon.
Thank you. At least it’s smooth and the edges are raggedy (like paint splatters) as they sometimes could be.
I really enjoyed PoTL.
Yikes, I hope the hive subsides quickly. Maybe icing it a bit would help with the itching.
It’s itching less today so I hope the trajectory is going the right way.
I hope your hi e heals quickly!
Hive. Sigh.
Thank you. It has improved today…it will take a few more days.
It makes me itchy just thinking about it, get well soon, maybe calamine lotion?
Phantom itching? I haven’t used calamine lotion since I was a kid and I think there’s a reason (wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up being sensitive to it too).
I remember having to use calamine lotion when I had chickenpox. It was runny and sticky.
She is dog tired and still eating apples. I brought 3 kg’s from the Netherlands.
Hang in there, austenfan!
Yikes!!! Just hearing about that upset and reactive skin patch makes me want to scratch. I was going to second Nancyleandros on maybe putting a bit of ice or a cold compress on the area.
It is better today and zi hope it continued on this joirney over the next few days.
I had to turn my air conditioning on tonight. It was not super hot today, but was humid. Tonight I’m wearing Mariah Carey M.
I don’t bite into apples anymore because of my stupid teeth, but my favorite would have to be Red Delicious. I’ve always liked caramel apples. Remember Candy Apples? I haven’t seen those in forever.
I see candy and caramel apples at the beach, but never otherwise!
The only places I can recall seeing candy apples recently were down at the NJ Shore, and at a candy store/sweet shoppe in Las Vegas.
SotD = Insolence EdT
Insolence and its berry note is as fruity as I go with perfume, though I would love a perfume with hints of crisp apple or dry apple cider, a little tart and maybe a hit of fermented alcoholic vapors would be perfect.
I adore apples and eat one almost every day. Before work-from-home life started I always had an apple in my bag for on the go snacking. I’m enjoying Envy apples lately. My favorite variety for eating is the yellow Opal.
happy weekend, everyone! 🙂
Never heard of Envy, will have to look it up:).
I think Envy apples are related to honeycrisp, they sure taste that way. 🙂
I haven’t heard of either Envy or Opal apples. Where have I been? ??
too many apples, too little time. 😉
SOTD for Saturday was Indochine, and now it’s bedtime and I’ve switched to Tam Dao with a little Ancient Resins perfume oil for even more soothing softness. Combine that with some herbal tea and freshly laundered bedding, and I should sleep well tonight. ?
That sounds like a perfect evening of self care. ??
It was! I slept better than I have in weeks.
Back at work. We are starting to move everything around to make room for Christmas!
Sotd is Angelique Noire. I’m not the biggest Guerlain fan, but this has to be one of the best perfumes I’ve had the pleasure of wearing. Perfect for a cloudy cool morning.
AN is very very wearable!
Agreed!
Do you consider that a fun part of your job? I can see it going either way.
Merchandising is fun, but the moving of fixtures and making room ahead of time is a PITA.
Likewise the tear down Dec 26.
Ahh, I would imagine the tear down is especially a drag.
I love Angelique Noire!
It’s so good!
Christmas stuff? Already? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
You smell nice!
Well, I fell yesterday while walking the pupster. Broke and dislocated my left pinky finger and jacked up my right knee. Managed to get road rash on face and knees. I am very thorough!
Had to go to the ER as the clinics around here were either closed or didn’t take my insurance. Ugh. But I have good meds and will hopefully see an ortho this week. Plus my hubby has been taking good care of me.
I was in Bruno F Five yesterday and Lampblack today.
Oh no! That sounds painful and frustrating. Hope you make a full recovery
I am so sorry, Nancy! I hope you have a speedy recovery. Sending healing thoughts! ?
Oh no! I hope you recover quickly. You smell amazing at least.
Sorry to hear, Nancy. I hope you see an ortho soon.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that. Definitely see an ortho. Hope you heal quickly.
So sorry you had a bad fall. Get well soon.
So sorry to hear nancy:(. ?
Oh poor you!! Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Wishing you a swift recovery!
Wow! I’m glad they gave you some meds. I hope it’s a quick recovery!
Oh dear! Glad it was a finger and not your wrist or arm, but still.
Oh no! Damage to fingers is so painful. They are just very full of sensory receptors. I’m so sorry. Nreally hope your knee is ok. A fall at our age is very scary and upsetting.
Ow ow ow ow ow ouch owie! So sorry to hear that you took a tumble. I hope that your healing is quick and complete.
Thanks everyone for your kind words! I really appreciate every one of you. ❤️
Ouch! I hope you recover in no time!
Nancy, so sorry about your fall! I hope you’re not in much pain and you heal up quickly.
In Gucci Bloom lotion- I think I like this more then the perfume!
And oh apples – honey crisp all the way but pink lady is good too!
Interesting, will have to see if I can smell the lotion if I am ever in a store again.
I’m allergic to apples, so no favorite variety for me. In fact, I’m afraid to try ELDO’s I Am Trash because of the upcycled apple remnants.
We have moved and are settling into our new home nicely. My anxiety levels have decreased about 900%, which is fantastic. Yesterday’s SOTD was Philosykos and today’s is Lys 41.
So happy to hear you are settling in and calming down. I am living on anxiety meds for the time being… movers come 10/13.
I’m sure you will be fine once it will be done.
Glad you are feeling better. Moving is one of life’s big stressors.
It’s great once it’s done isn’t it? I feel a lot less stressed as well. Although stress levels are rising slightly as I will be starting my new job on Thursday.
Lys is very pretty, although it does not smell an awful lot like a lily.
So glad to hear it sistine!
Glad to hear that you are settling in and feeling more at ease! ?
Happy Sunday! Sunday is my running day (down to 1 day a week with school back in session), so no SOTM, yet. We are going down to my in-laws place to celebrate FIL birthday week (outside on the patio, I assume), so I will pick something appropriate for that after my shower. Maybe more Tea for Two. I’ve been really loving that heavy dose of spices!
For those of you who like to talk fitness, I’ve got a quarantine personal best (PB) to report–deadlifted 170 pounds yesterday, and it went up smooth as butter! My PB pre-COVID was 185 from blocks, so I’m feeling good that I’m building my strength up again pretty quickly! Yay!
I’ve been enjoying Tea for Two, also. And congrats on the dead lift.
Congratulations! That’s awesome.
Enjoy your FIL’s birthday party.
Go Marjorie Rose!!!
Wow! ???!
Today I’m in Micallef Gaiac and about to walk to our neighborhood farmers’ market for apples. I grew up on an apple orchard in eastern Washington. There are so many varieties out there that I’ve never tried and would love to. We get so few in the stores. I love Winesap and Jonathan (both hard to find in stores), also Pink Lady and Braeburn. I’m not a Honeycrisp fan.
I guess it’s farmers market (without the apostrophe). Lol, the nerd in me had to look it up.
I did not know that either, which seems crazy.
I’m wearing Impossible Iris this morning.
Question: As the splitmeet is coming up, would anyone be interested in me splitting Lancome Santal Cardamon? I figure 10 mls would go for about $20 plus shipping and I’d split off 80 mls.
This sounds interesting to me as long as it isn’t too sweet.
Ooh when is the splitmeet?
Sometime in October. Robin hasn’t announced the date yet.
I would be interested.
foxbins – I just bought a bottle with the Bergdorf gift card event (discount ~ 24% but there’s tax on the list price) and was planning to split off up to 60mLs. The cost comes out to be $20.94 for 10mLs including new shipping materials and postage. If you haven’t bought it yet, you can join mine and the only negative for you is you have a decant instead of the bottle.
That’s great! Can I dibs 10ml now?
Just about finished the last dregs of the Rosewater I’ve candle from Bath and Body Works. It’s not a candle I would use again, let alone purchase again. Made a couple dozen cookies today. I am trying to figure out if I should wear vintage BaV or go with Theorema.
Wearing Dior Rose Gipsy on another amazingly warm day. Actually had to pull the shorts and sandals back out. Went for my last ice cream of the season and it was fabulous: dark chocolate and orange & cardomom (one scoop of each).
Yay for sandals and ice cream! Saw your comment about moving above…hope the move goes quickly and smoothly.
Thank you!
Are you overwintering in San Diego, Cazaubon, or skipping it this year? As I would imagine SD gives some more weeks of ice cream weather. :^)
We are heading back to California for the winter as per usual. The twist this year is that just before we head out, the movers will be coming to move everything out of our flat in Montréal, which we are selling, and next April we will be heading to Vancouver Island instead, where we will need to look for a new flat. So the suspense will continue for another 6 months. 😉
And yes, there will be more ice cream weather in San Diego, but today was the last time I could have ice cream at my favourite artisan shop here.
Where will all your stuff be until you find a new place?
In storage.
Wearing Pacifica Island Vanilla from a kind NSTer and Perris Monte Carlo Vanille de Tahiti for my vanilla fix today.
Weather has warmed up to the 70s but was cool this morning with a hint of autumn in the air.????
So much life going on here! One of my favorite places…
SOTD = the sadly discontinued Dilletante, in honor of perhaps our last warm day, since it looks like the highs next week will be in the ‘50s.
I love apples, ranging from sweet, Fuji, to tangy, Pink Lady, to the unidentified put pretty sour hard little green apples we get off our feral apple trees to be found scattered around our property, which I mainly eat to tease the horses, who love them.
But pretty sour. Ugh!
Another fairly lazy day.
Morning spent doing light admin stuff to get ahead on month end, quarter end and my UK company year end. Also wasting lots of time on Twitter – I really can’t recommend it, the most awful people abound, but I’m kind of addicted.
Afternoon down to swim and lie on the beach. This is where Malaga comes into its own. All my old Northern haunts – Birmingham, Den Haag, Duesseldorf – all are in the low-to-mid-teens with grey skies. Here still mid-twenties and sunshine. ;^)
I should really mention perfume if only in passing. Yesterday was vero.profumo “Onda” edp – I worried the honey might be overpowering but it was fine, evidently the day was just cool enough. Today is Cloon Keen Atelier “Tulum” after my swim, such a refreshing scent.
Onda is gorgeous. I am greatly looking forward to getting back to the beach as the weather goes off a cliff here in Canada.
It was Murphy’s Law at work today, man what a crazy day! SOTD is Gin Fizz; I liked it, nice little powdery surprise.
I’m very late checking in. SOTD is Lalibella. Mmm. I don’t know of any apple scents I’ve tried. For some reason Honour Woman always smells like apples to me and I love it. The first Amouage I ever bought. Weird because it actually has rhubarb. An odd taste conflation. I mostly buy Fuji or Gala apples. Recently I made good Waldorf salad with Granny Smiths. I’ve had excellent Cortland apples in upstate New York. Mom always insisted on using Jonathans for her pies, but she thought they have gone downhill from their old tart days. Mom had three huge apple trees in her yard and worked hard to pick and use the apples. Pls she liked to use lard in her crusts but it became harder to find. Pies and applesauce. Then it got to be too much and she would talk about wanting to get rid of those d……d apples! A young Amish family stopped by and asked if they could pick them up from the ground. She said yes and they came back with a wagon and seven kids and picked them all up. Later they dropped off several gallons of cider. That was a good exchange!
Nice swap that your mom had with those Amish folks!
This weekend has been somewhat frustrating for me. This week, my cell phone reception in my house has gone down the proverbial drain and into the sewer. I get zero bars on the main floor now. I only get a signal upstairs in the bedrooms or bathrooms. If this is what I can expect now that my phone company has merged with someone else, I am neither happy nor impressed.
No fragrances with apples for me. That note gets kinda wonky on me.
LOVED Honeycrisp apples when they first came out, but I have noticed uneven quality in recent years. I will have to try some of the ones mentioned here by NSTers.
SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio, from the decant stash and a wonderful NSTer. It’s gotten warm and humid here again, so perfect weather for it.
That’s no good about the cell service! I hope there’s a way to resolve it.
The town I live in is notorious for bad cell reception. However, it’s been many years since I’ve had a problem.
