It's Hump Day, National Dog Day and Women’s Equality Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a summer favorite: Thierry Mugler Cologne.
Reminder: 8/28 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 4...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Commando but feeling like Chanel No 5 for a good classic):
I phoned the Guerlain boutique in Vegas, they said they did have the new iris scent in but have sold out of it quickly. They expect more bottles soon. Theodore, the wonderful and very knowledgeable representative there, said he describes the scent as velvety and would not classify it as gourmand..but still yummy. Sounds good!
Looks like another day of 110f lol. Time to restock the Gatorade.
Wow!
Omega, are interested in doing a split when it is back in stock? Or this is bottle you want all for yourself to love and cherish 🙂
Thought I would ask just in case…
Yep, just let me know how much you want!
~5mls if possible!
Oooohhh, that note info sounds promising. That was nice of the SA to give you some details. I see split participation in my future.
Stay as cool as you can today!
P.S. Yes, I am interested in doing a split(if ok with Robin:)) and they are taking preorders for the new bottles coming in:). Would like to split off 60 mls in order to host the split. $44 dollars per 10 mls or $22 for 5 mls. ($260 plus 8 percent Nevada sales tax= $280). If interested, do a dibs with how many mls and email me at kalliela11 at the hot male.
I’m in for 5ml
Wondering what happened to my no buy as I request 5 mls please.
Donatella will be prouder of me than I had planned.
Emailing you now.
Just a note, math includes some shipping and material costs, will need to purchase atomizers, parafilm, padded envelopes, bubble wrap. The 10 mls will be shipped in plastic atomizers..I prefer these more actually as they as less likely to break for whatever reason. The 5 mls will come in glass atomizers. I get my atomizers from Seattle4 on Ebay and have had no complaints about the quality of these and have had none myself. (Not affiliated). Just mentioning so you know what these will come in:).
I am in for 10 mls, please! Emailing you now. Thanks for making the effort!
Me! Me!
5mls ( I posted above on your last comment)
I would love 5 ml please and will email you shortly…thank you!
Of course it’s ok, but there’s an NST tax where you have to send me 5 ml 😉
I sure can do that, Robin!!
I was kidding!
I’m in for 5 if the split has room. I’ll email after work!
I’d love to have 5 ml–emailing you now! Thanks.
110 does not sound comfortable at all.
For rehydration, lately, I’m reaching for Pedialyte. It has more balanced electolytes and less sugar and calories.
Wow, that sounds lovely. Stay cool!
Saks in NYC said they’ll get it in September,
Good to know and they usually have a gift card event then or I’ll wait until then.
Glad to hear that the Guerlain boutique in Vegas is still around. I thought that they had closed up, permanently.
My math is not good, but if all the dibs have not been called, I toss in my hat – 5mls or???
Yep, you are down for 5 mls:)
As of today, it is also at Bergdorf Goodman (and possibly NM, did not check)
Feeling more rested Robin? If not I have more extra French press coffee for you.
My dealers choice is perfumes or perfume houses that start with H.
SOTD Hermes Galop
Too match my perfume (Deva suggests) My consignment store find dress is this one by Emory Park (it was new with tags)
https://images.app.goo.gl/FKwA4FRiFHvpDBkbA
Well that dress is downright adorable!! And you smell great to boot! ??
I love how the model add the accessories. Deva, I think I must invest in white cowboy boots. What do you think? 🙂
Wedges or platforms with the thick, cris-cross straps would work, too.
I have those! Great suggestion
To boot. I see what ya did there. ?
?
I want to go to the stores you go to!
I never got to smell Galop, isnt that weird?
But that dress is lovely!!!
Orange does not work for me (a skin tone thing I guess). But some people really glow in orange. ? ??️
I am glowing, I hope!
Hermes and I have never really hit it off, but Galop is really well done but I have to to be in the mood..
I can recommend leaning towards a vibrant red-orange if straight up orange is hideous on you (as it is on me with cool-toned skin). The classic Pantone reference is shade 17-1464 and is super flattering.n
99% of my wardrobe is solid greyscale excepting denim. That remaining 1% is red-orange.
I think that the red-orange you mentioned is a match for me in a somewhat darker shade.
Its a beautiful color btw!
i mostly wear cool colors as well (grey, dark blue, burgundy, bottle green, emerald green, mostly combined with black),
but an olive/army green also works for me (even though those are considered warm).
Even some yellows are not that hideous on me.
But colours like peach, salmonpink, orange ….i look unwell in it ?
That dress is way too cute!
Great Gunne Sax vibe! ❤️
Now that’s a name from the past! I loved Gunne Sax clothing!
It still fits, even with all my toast eating!
You’re still doing toast! That’s awesome!
I found a great gluten free walnut/olive bread recipe on Food52. I’m tempted to give it a try, with loads of butter of course.
Adorable dress! With or without the white cowgirl boots?
without, I don’t own white ones. I have one pair in black.
Cute!
Such a cute dress! I like the way it’s styled with the autumn mani and all the silver jewelry 🙂
That dress is killer!
Oh, please send coffee!
No, really I am more rested. I just keep waking up early lately. I fall asleep just great at night, and I’d rather that than the other way around I guess.
Love the dress! Talbots online is having good sales. Dress-wearers know how cool and comfy a dress is in the heat!
I hugged my dog this morning after our walk ahead of the weather. ❤️?
I’ll be in Dune today, thanks to a very generous perfumista. It is calming and meditative for me, so it fits my Stressbusters project.
Y’all stay well, safe and as happy as possible today, dear NSTers!
That was my sotd yesterday! You smell great!
Thanks! You smell great in B22, even if it’s not quite doing it for ya today. ?
I hope you have a more peaceful day than you expect.
I think we will be okay, but I am concerned about the folks east of us. Thank you, sistine. ??
Ran out of Dune so need to find a new bottle but would like an older version if possible. Miss this scent!
Me too, I sort of forget about it, now that I ran out of my last FB, because the newest version doesn’t quite ring my bell. I should look fr some vintage somewhere….
Hugs! Stay safe. You smell amazing in Dune!
Stay safe!
I’m in Le Labo Bergamote 22 which I haven’t worn in a long time and I normally love, but today it’s not working for me. Oh well, I’ll power through.
It was so dark this morning when I got up.☹️ I’m gonna stay in denial that fall is on the way until it is actually here.
I know, it’s crazy dark at 6:30!
I am so conflicted about fall. I’d like some cooler temps out this way, but also dread shorter days.
Oh what a shame, I love Bergamote 22.
I adore Bergamotte 22, such a spicy citrus scent with incredible longevity.
There are days though, it does wear me and it’s all B.O. and cumin. 😯
Not safe for wearing when we’ll be with others.
Apparently the CDC is smoking crack again. So disappointing.
SOTD is eau de irritation for so many things, but I gave it the smack down with Bvlgari Omnia, which I think is another Boudoir to Boardroom scent. Full disclosure, I have no personal experience with either boudoirs or boardrooms! ?
Thinking of everyone facing hard times right now. I just don’t know how much more people can take! On the spectrum from “hopeless” to “hopeful, ” I think I’m headed in the wrong direction. ?
hold on to whatever you can, Deva! I keep telling myself the law of averages says things gotta get better. Maybe sniff some puppy fur to feel a little better?
I so hope things will start getting better some time. Please don’t dwell on things you have no influence on. Give T-Rex a cuddle from me.
Sorry Deva. It does indeed all feel so sucky. Hug T. rex for us today.
I think I should clarify! I’m fine, have absolutely ZERO to complain about. I just worry about so many other people that are being hammered left, right, and center. I’m sad for them. T-Rex needs a bath, so puppy hugs will happen after that. Thank you all! Sorry if I came across as overly dramatic..!
Perfume is always the answer ??
It is so rough right now for so many people. I definitely feel so much more anxious than I ever remember feeling before. Hang in there and pet T-Rex!
Same on the mood! And you made me LOL on the boudoir and boardroom comment!
I’ve been heading in the wrong direction too, Deva. Coming here reminds me that I am not alone. Even though it feels like it some days. ??
https://youtu.be/Hphwfq1wLJs
Let’s dance!?
Love this song! ??
We are disco queen twins!
Deva, I feel your pain but pretty sure the no-politics part of the comment policy covers saying the CDC is smoking crack. Everyone else, you are free to say anything sympathetic to Deva but let’s not talk about the CDC, or smoking crack, thanks.
Sorry! I slapped my filter back in place. I’m going to superglue it there, then follow up with heavy duty grout, Gorilla Glue, and some weatherproof permanent heavy duty caulk, just to be sure nothing slips out. ?
🙂
Speaking of one thing after another, I had asked someone for resources related to wildfires last Friday. No response, so I sent a follow-up on Monday because, raging wildfires. No response. Today, I instant-messaged her and I got a quick email response of “I’m looking into it.” Is this knucking futs or what? When I pinged her, I accidentally typed “earthquake” instead of wildfire and she asked if she missed an earthquake somewhere. I should have toyed with her and said I feel one coming.
This is my issue with charities: I’d rather be there helping out to bring food/drinks/whatever than give money only because I don’t trust that the money will go to those that need it. When you’re a director or CEO of a charity, and you make a 6 figure salary, something is wrong. I stopped donating money to anyone, preferring to donate time or work to a charity/non-profit. I really hope people are taking care of those firefighters on the front lines. That’s where the help is needed right now. If you do find something reputable, let me know. You can email me with any info!
Lucky for me, my company vets the charities to which it distributes employee giving and it is usually initiated by a significant contribution early on.
On another note, I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with the CEO of a charitable organization being paid 6 figures as long as they prove their worth to an objective Board of Directors AND the admin cost (% and $) of the overall budget is low commensurate with the organization’s contribution to the work at hand. At the proverbial end of the day, there is no such thing as a free lunch when you look at the ecosystem.
I’ll email with suggestions. Things are quite crazy right now ?
LOL! I wish you would have said that!
Wearing Amouage Beloved. Had a shower this morning with some Ambre Fétiche shower gel, found a mini when I was clearing things out.
Got rid of more stuff and have added some more filled boxes to the ever growing collection. Marie Kondo I will never be. ?
Beloved is wonderful.
You smell wonderful! And this is another of Deva’s Boudoir to Boardroom scents, IMO.
Oh, well I’ll have to try this one out then. Because of space issues, I’m really trying to focus on perfumes for any/all scenarios. Thanks for mentioning this one fits the bill?
Ambre Fetiche shower gel sounds fantastic! How is it?
Post shower sticking with Chanel another off the chart heat day. Think Paris Biarritz lotion and spray.
Have completely stopped wearing bras at home.
I envy you going bra-less
I still wear a bra, since our dining room window looks into the neighbors’ living room. However, I haven’t worn make-up since March. I think, maybe I’m done wearing make-up. I started wearing it when I started teaching at 28, looking like I was 18. No one would mistake me for a student anymore, and my skin is so much clearer without all that stuff on it every day!
I usually wear makeup since I spend so much time on zoom.
But I am working on one project only all day and just put on moisturizer and some lip balm.
I join you in the wonder and comfort that is bralessness. A baggy, dark colored T-shirt, and I’m good!
You’re going to smell so great today. I think my goal every weekend is to go braless haha! I think I succeeded all but maybe 3 hours last weekend lol.
I wore make-up until probably mid-May but I should have gone without earlier. I will probably go makeup-less when it’s time to return to the office AND if we’re still required to wear masks. I can’t see taking off my mask and having to wear it every time I get up with all the residual makeup stuff that will get stuck on the mask. Having said this, I have a short list of co-workers whom I think should wear makeup because their facial skin does not look good on Zoom (or maybe I should give them tips on camera angle and distance).
“Free boobing” is great if you can do it!
Agree! Just don’t knock anyone out! ?
SotD = Jour d’Hermes
Woke up thinking of this perfume. I love it when the angels whisper in my ear like that, and the scent is working pretty much a-ok for a hump day.
“Enjoying” an early wake up call. To beat the heat my al fresco piano lesson will begin at 8 am, yaaaaaaaawwwwwwn. Thankfully this particular student is a joy to work with, she’s cheerful and self-motivated!
A pair of baby squirrels just raced past my window at top speed. They have been playing tag every morning for a few months now. They go from their pine tree out at the street, across the top of the fence, up the garage roof, and into my backyard neighbor’s huge ficus tree. Then back again and again and again. I will miss them when they finally leave their mama’s nest.
No doggos in my life at the moment. Please huff some puppy fur for me if you can. 😀
House ?♀️ twins
Enjoy your perfume whispers
During the shut down I had many whispers to wear Shalimar Every. Single. Day.
hi twin! Shalimar whispers to me too 🙂
I think the outdoor piano lesson sounds lovely. I’d like to hear the sounds coming over the fence…(but then, I don’t have to put the work in!). We get Cello at 7.20 each morning, which is when Orchestra class happens for my daughter.
hee hee, I have wondered if my neighbors mind (or enjoy!) overhearing a music lesson. If it were a cello lesson I would be delighted. 🙂
Outdoor piano lessons? Sign me up! I will sniff my dog’s fur in your honor. You smell divine.
sounds good, sistine! I’ve had a number of grown up students, really enjoyed working with them. 🙂
I won’t sniff Nacho for you but I will give him a hug for you haha.
Butt you love him ???
thanks, hugs are as good as sniffs! sometimes better 🙂
I adore Jour d’ Hermes. It’s so uplifting.
yes! 🙂 I smile every single time I spritz on Jour d’Hermes.
An al fresco piano lesson! How utterly delightful.
I meant to tell you, I did another Chloe Ting series! This was the Hourglass 25-Day Abs & Booty Challenge or whatever it’s called. I’m on Day 25 today, and then I’ll take the rest of August off of Chloe Ting 🙂 Have you been doing another of her challenges?
it is nice to sit outside, with hummingbirds flitting around, and work at the keyboard. 😀
go YOU! I’m impressed that you already had another go around with Chloe. Congrats on finishing, that is no small feat.
I’m doing the same 28 day challenge again. Figured since I know the routines it would be easier the 2nd time around, and it is so far.
Wow good for you! It is awesome that it’s easier this time around 🙂 it’s wonderful to feel the progress in your body!
Jour d’Hermes is one of the scents that I associate with you, tiffanie.
😀 yay! Hermes scents have a special place in my heart.
myy CP ‘Dealer’s Choice’: Perfumes I fell in love with this year
Monday was Le Cri
Yesterday: Bandit
Today: L’âme perdue …and I might wear this one on friday as well, its so good!
I had a meeting on location yesterday, in The Hague.
Its so good to see people in real life, especially the new co workers I only knew from video conferening. ?
Train travel can be stressful though.
I was traveling with a co-worker and we found a 4 seater for both of us. We were of course wearing our masks.
Then a big guy with his mask hanging on his chin, decided to sit NEXT to us in the 4 seater. ???
While there was plenty of space left elsewhere.
We asked him to at least put on his mask. Then he made a snarky remark about wanting to drink. ?
After 1 minute he decided to sit on another bench though. I think we stared at him angrily enough to make him uncomfortable.
Urgh I cant stand people like that.
Why would you do that???
Maybe he wanted to socialize and read all the signals all wrong? Or – he was drunk already.
LOL ?
I could not smell any alcohol on him, maybe because i wore a mask ?
But he surely looked like he alreay had been drinking A beer belly that was too big for comfort, a tight white t shirt with too many smudges on it and also on that shirt: a reference to a political party….
Let me guess: PVV or FvD?
LOL ?, yeah that wouldve been my bet as well.
But it was PvdA.
Whatever his political preferences he was acting like a prat.
I’m so glad that I’m no longer working where I used to be. Getting insulted was becoming quite a regular feature of my day.
Jealous of your in-person meeting! As we are looking towards the start of the year, I so desperately want to confer with my coteachers and have real conversations to help me feel prepared for teaching online. Virtual meetings just aren’t as good. No flow. But of course, safety matters to me more, so I’ll use what I can get.
It felt kinda weird though, being in an office again.and seeing so many people togeher there (a group of 8 in a huuuge conference room, we had a whole table per person.
It felt quite comfortable and safe actually.
But meetings like these are not allowed very often by our employer (and rightly so, imo). The next one will be end of September. Meanwhile its back to Skype.
You did well to discourage him. Not worth the risk!
Even if you yourself don’t care one should at least obey the law? Oh well. It seems to have turned out fine with him sitting somewhere else in the end. Although I suppose for the US masking / not masking has become somewhat political so we should avoid the discussion here?
SO frustrating but glad you got some social time in, even if it was for work!
This sounds like one of Hajusuuri’s work commute escapades.
At this stage, I would rather smell someone’s armpit than feel someone’s breath on me. Yuck to both though.
He was probably drunk as others have said.?European train travel is always exciting. Several years back, I took trains from Amsterdam to eastern Slovakia and back…ahh, the adventures. 🙂
Oh how uncomfortable! I’m sorry you had to deal with that.
I agree with some of the other posters who suggested that the unpleasant train rider might be drunk. Yeesh!
Another poor neglected bottle dusted off and used this morning: Kenzo Eau de Fleur de Magnolia. It is a lovely citrus floral with a smooth slight smoky drydown.
Oh nice! Surprised some of that series didn’t stay in production.
Woke up in Givenchy III and now freshly showed. I am debating on the current edt or vintage edt of no 22. It supposed to storm here and I hope it does.
Send me some storm, please. Also, you’re going to smell great in 22, no matter which you chose!
Hi all!
Consoling myself over my neighbors in Beaumont with a healthy spritz of Yvresse. I’m not exactly celebrating that Laura is mostly avoiding Houston but it is a weight off my mind. I remember losing power for about ten days during Hurricane Ike and was not eager to repeat.
Stay safe everyone!
It seems like East Texas has been pounded by weather so much in the past several years. ?
Glad you’ll be safe!
I know, I also feel guilty to be so relieved when others will suffer. I have a good friend in Shreveport and now am worrying about her. She is an invalid with constant caregivers and it will be very hard on her to go without power. I only lost mine one night after Ike.
I hope she gets priority if and when a rescue is necessary!
Stay safe, Coumarin. I placed an Alder order last night ?
My gardenia week continues with Lizzie Ann from Soivohle
Gotta love a scent named after me….????
Pretty pic! Such happy flowers. I actually bought sunflowers for my husband yesterday as it’s his favorite color (and I was grumpy most of the day toward him) — work stress!
SOTD: Prodigieux Le Parfum by Nuxe; pining for the beach…
Hope the flowers cheered him up! And hope your work stress gets better.
Join you in pining for the beach. Am actually driving down this afternoon to take my mom to dinner for her birthday (it will be my first restaurant meal since the pandemic started) but coming right back home after and won’t so much as see the water. Boo.
Oh, enjoy mom & dining out! The beach will always be there 😉
Glad you feel comfortable enough to do that. My siblings, brothers-in-law and I will be meeting up at a mall on September 13. That’s practice for the next “big” thing which is lunch to celebrate my nephew’s birthday. It will be take out and first choice is to meet outside my sister’s place and the alternative is inside. There will only be 6 of is plus a dog so we can be socially distant as needed. No use telling the dog.
Yeah for time with Mother!
Happy Birthday to your mom! Hope it was a nice dinner.
Dior Granville today, it seems to be doing the trick with the heat and humidity. Happy Wednesday! 🙂
Wasn’t that discontinued? You smell fab anyway.
Shalimar & relations week continues with Shalimar Cologne. This is an easy one to like – very inoffensive, with a lemon chiffon cake vibe. I probably like the pdt quite a bit more, but this is fun, too! I said yesterday it reminded me of Bijoux Romantique, but this is really quite a bit softer and more lemony sweet (think lemon icing, not lemon juice). But I think they are cousins.
You’re smelling so good today.
You smell wonderful 🙂
Thanks for the compliments! I’m quite liking cologne!
SOTD = new random sample – Jacques Fath Tempete d’Automne.
1. Who knew there is an active Jacques Fath perfumery that is putting out new perfumes?
2. This is a fabulous smooth milky sandalwood, with little flashes of incense after 5 hours, but lots of smooth milky sandalwood, very smooth…wow. I will let you all know what happens in the long dry down, but this is really something, for any sandalwood fans out there. Sort of like smelling Rose Jam, and thinking, ooh, smells good, and then smelling Mohur Extrait and knowing you just went to a different level of smells good, if you like Tam Dao, you should look for a sample of this immediately. The website says they sell 15 ml bottles….
Wow, that sounds so good!!!
*immeadiately starts googling “jacques fath”!
Wow, looking it up now, as I love Tam Dao! Thanks for the review.
Me too! I just discovered Tam Dao recently. I must be living under a rock.
I just went to the Jacques Fath website and discovered that 2-ml samples are FREE! You do pay for the shipping, which is something like $28 to the US, but it looks like you are getting the whole collection. That would be a very modest price for a discovery set.
The perfumes, by Cécile Zarokian and/or Luca Maffei, sound very tempting. I’ll soon find out! ?
ooh, I will beinterested to hear what you experience with the other ones. There are a couple that sound interesting to me.
You are tempting me… instant lemming.
And done…. Another enabler pin for your crown.
And…another lemming….samples ordered…tosses enabler pins to all! Also, first time I’ve ordered internationally!
That sounds delicious!
a couple more hours on, the incense has faded, and the sandalwood is back in play, closer to the skin but distinct and mellow, not scratchy at all…just for those of you who want to know…
Oh wow. I’m another Tam Dao lover, so maybe I need to look this one up.
Wah! Stop this enabling!! 🙂
Sorry, we all do what we can!
Oy vey! That sounds wonderful! ?
YOU enabler YOU. I just did some shopping last night. The night is still young…
I am waiting for Laura, wearing Corsica Furiosa, from a new decant. So far I have loved every sample or decant of scents by Parfum d’Empire.
Stay safe!
I think it’s a great house, too, although CF is the only one I have a FB of right now. It’s my favorite hot weather scent. You smell fab- I hope Laura gives you the cold shoulder!
Laura…that name sounds so innocent to me but I just read she is becoming stronger.
Stay safe!
Stay safe!!!! She looks like a monster! I’ve only had one by that house, will have to check out others!
Take care PriscillaE, and I hope your elbow and hand are on the mend!
Good luck!
I hope all will be well. I’m intrigued by PdE as well – haven’t loved all of the things I’ve tried (I’m looking at you Azemour!), but I haven’t tried that much yet. I am sure you smell great!
Be safe!
Have been very busy this week at work as I am taking off tomorrow and Fri so not much time for posting sadly.?
Wearing Vanille Fatale today which I bought a decant of as I only ever tested it in the store once. Began to wonder if I might have missed out on a good vanilla which kind of keeps me up at night…and that’s not a joke. 🙂 A spicy, herbal vanilla so far.
Does VF itself keep you up at night, or the thought of losing out? Former good, latter less so…
Neither really…I have plenty of vanillas but I am always on the look out for new vanillas and kind of feel personally responsible to make sure I have sampled and evaluated new releases that hit the market. In my mind I am overseeing all things vanilla you see…??
Someone’s gotta keep the vanilla watch!
Yes, it’s a bit like Game of Thrones and the Night’s Watch…vanilla is the wall I watch.♥️??
Good to know that you are on the job, keeping all that vanilla perfume in line! ?
Every time I smell a vanilla-forward perfume (not often enough), I ask What Would She-Ra Think ?
Hi everyone, my SOTD is Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Red Velvet. It’s similar to Lovely and NR EDT, a tad more woods, less Egyptian Musk in the dry down.
I’m headed out for my walk, did a new yoga workout yesterday that has me a little tender this morning, which is good! I’ve dropped four pounds. 🙂
That one sounds good. I remember my mom wearing the original Red Door when I was younger, though she hasn’t worn anything but Allure now for years!
I adore the original Red Door. It’s such a beautiful scent for summer time.
Good progress! Congrats 😉
Yay for pounds lost! 🙂
Congrats on the new workout!
Congrats on the weight loss!
Today my late, little brother would have turned 40, and I am really feeling it. For the last 6 years on his birthday, I’ve gone down to where my mother and I had spread his ashes However, due to COVID the area is currently off limits. So, I’m going to drive down to the beach and spend some time on my own down there today–the closest I can get to visiting him.
My heart goes out to everyone whose challenges are so much bigger due to the pandemic. It feels monumentally unfair to pile things on in this manner, and it goes on and on. I’m going to let myself grieve today; I can get back to appreciating all that I DO have tomorrow.
Not sure what I’ll pick for my SOTD. Recently purchased OJ Tiare on sale. That might be nice for the beach, but Parfum Sacre is so mournful, maybe that would be a better fit for my mood? Not a very nice CP, but I do wonder if people reach for scents that match their poor moods or if they try to lift themselves up with scent?
Oh Marjorie Rose, what a hard day. Biggest hugs to you.
This just hurts my heart. I cannot imagine the pain. I love my sister dearly. Thinking of you today. And to answer your question, I do both- sometimes I want to wallow in my mood and chose an appropriate scent and sometimes I try and lift it with scent. Wallowing usually wins lol.
My deepest wishes for a day that brings peace and love. The beach is a wonderful idea.
? Sending hugs!
Thinking of you. Time watching the sea sounds good.
Hugs to you! Whatever perfume you choose, it will be perfect.
I’m sorry, Marjorie Rose. Hard day indeed.
That is really tough. I think either choice will work. It will be good to spend some time just thinking of him.
Enjoy your time with your memories. The beach is a soothing place to be.
How heartbreaking Marjorie Rose… I’m so sorry for your loss.
I think picking a perfume that reinforces your feelings today is fair because mourning the loss of a beloved brother comes from love – and you don’t need to lift yourself out of love, you have every right to take the time to honor the feelings that come with it.
Great, big hugs to you on this hard day. Grief for my parents who passed in the last couple years seems more visceral during the pandemic as well. I hope you are comforting by the sea.
Comforted by the sea that is.
Hugs! Do take the time to grieve, though, even if not in the way you’d like. Grieving and loving and remembering, all rolled up in one, are important.
A hug for you?
I’m very sorry for your loss.
More hugs and sympathy, Marjorie Rose.
I’m so sorry Marjorie Rose, taking time to grieve, love, and remember is so very important. Parfum Sacre sounds like a wonderful scent for today.
Sending you love on this tough day <3
I hope you will find some peace on the beach (and perhaps some good memories, too). Sorry that you cannot go to mourn him where you usually go.
I am so sorry, Marjorie Rose. I hope you can find some comfort. I wasn’t able to visit anywhere or anyone this year who is gone, so I light my incense and send my thoughts. Its the best I have been able to do.
Hugs, Marjorie Rose. Remembering a loved one no longer with us can be painful and difficult. But it is also necessary. My sympathies.
Sending hugs and peace!
Hugs to you, Marjorie Rose.
Hugs to you, Marjorie Rose.
Sending hugs; our siblings are a special gift!
Czech & Speake Dark Rose after a workout and shower
Fantastic choice!
You smell great, Robin. I have a sample of that one and I’ve sprayed it several times lately to try and beat the heat.
Sticking with my tropical theme. Was in Terracotta yesterday and Chameleon today. Both make me so happy!
Thinking of you all right now. Things are crazy and tough this year. All those near the hurricane, stay safe!
I think if you had told me 10 years ago everything that would happen in 2020, I would not have believed you.
I’m continuing my “I’ll only wear it to teach if I’m teaching Virtually” theme in Serin by January Scent Project. It’s gorgeous, but definitely has presence – too much for me to be comfortable with in a classroom.
Be safe and healthy.
Uh – like the theme idea.
Me too! Although my twist would be “perfumes I can’t sneak into work that I can wear for the next year while I’m virtual.” 😀
I think I’ll have to reapply all day to thunk my mini of DSH Hansa Yellow. It’s the most delightful custardy ylang ylang. However, it is in the voile de parfum concentration that I don’t really enjoy. It’s oil based and in spray format, and isn’t the most practical thing as I don’t need oil in my clothes. I’ve also got oily wrist stains on my laptop hehe. Oh well, I can clean those off later. At least I smell great.
In fitness news, I take a walk after work most days and have been walking up a large flight of outdoor stairs in the neighborhood. They’re the Blaine St. stairs in Seattle if anyone wants to look them up. I was recently telling my boyfriend that for as many times as I’ve walked them, they haven’t really gotten any easier for me. Yesterday, I could tell a noticeable difference! I stopped fewer times and for less time per stop (just 10 seconds or so). It’s so great and motivating to feel them getting slightly easier. I took a longer walk than usual after that to keep up the progress.
I just googled those stairs, and wowza! That’s a lot of steps! Congrats on staying with it, and on the stairs becoming easier.
Good for you! It’s a great feeling to experience your body changing for the better.
That’s good stepping, RF!! I looked them up, too.
I looked up the stairs too! Yay for progress! Stairs are hard. Big hugs to you.
Nice! I used to walk the stairs at Golden Gardens in Seattle multiple times up and down for a workout when I lived there. It was a nice combination of hike and stairmaster!
Good for you! I love feeling improvements in my body 🙂 Especially right now, when there are so few things we can control, it’s nice to find something (like personal fitness) that we can control to a certain extent.
Wow, those are tough! Great job!
Sotd: Hiram Green Voyage 2019
Dealer’s Choice Theme to go with that is “Just try that sample already!”
If anyone is interested, it’s really lovely. Opens citrusy and dries down spicy and warm. However personally I find myself wishing it had more oomph in the middle and end phases.
Oh that is a good theme. I think i have some untouched samples lying around…
I tried most HG scents, but not this one. It sounds good!
Clever theme!
I like that theme! And I’ve got those samples 🙂
I can probably do a year’s worth of this and still have leftovers. I like the theme!
I haven’t had much time to read this summer but am wearing a scent from a new-to-me house, Meleg Homemade Perfumes. The owner seems really sweet and sent a hand written note with mu sample order. My SOTD is Oakmoss Forest Florals. A beautiful green chypre floral with a vintage vibe. It reminds me of Silences. I’m working from home today so I can enjoy my scent bubble without bothering anyone. I hope you are all well.
Ciao Petunia!
So nice to see you <3
I was thinking you haven't been on here for a bit..figured you were just getting into trouble and having fun this summer 🙂 😉
I wish! ? Just over worked. Thanks for thinking of me. I think of you and other NSTRs too.
Hello Petunia! Happy to see you and sorry to hear you’ve been working so hard! Is there an end in sight? We miss you! ?
I miss you too but have been following you on Instagram and glad to see that TRex is thriving again! I was pulling in at work yesterday and saw two hens with several baby chics by a pond on the property. I work in a rural area. This made me think of you. I think you had a few turkeys lurking near your last rental house?
Yes, although haven’t seen them lately because there is a LOT of activity in the big house. ?
If it’s much like Silences, you smell wonderful. Thanks for reporting – I’ve not heard of this brand.
I saw a review of a different scent from this house on You Tube. Otherwise, I never would have found it. I believe it’s an indie house from Van Couver, BC. The owner has a shop on Etsy. He seems very sincere and his scents are well crafted. Oakmoss Forest Florals is really beautiful if you’re into green with a slight bitter edge. At the same time, it has a really pretty vintage-perfumey edge. Almost like a blend of Samsara and Silences IMHO. Worth a sniff at any rate.
Oh, Silences and Samsara? That sounds spectacular. I need to look this up.
Hey there, Lady Petunia! Nice to see you!??
Hi Lilyjo! Nice to see you too!!??
Hi Petunia! Good to see you post!
Hi Jalapeno! I hope you are well and avoiding trouble. ?
It’s wonderful to see you posting, Petunia! Silenced reminds me of Chanel No.19 so this is a must sniff for me!
Thanks dear! It’s not as smooth as No 19 but that is a great reference.
Ugh, I should do something for my husband to make amends for my grumpiness as well (also due to work stress).
Ugh, meant to comment this under floragal.
🙂
He was very pleased (also bought some of his favorite cookies).
Carner Barcelona Costarela. This is an interesting scent, but I think it will go in the pile of those to be passed along. For the first moment I liked it, then it became a scrubber, and now it’s kind of mellowing into something rather odd but not hugely bothersome. But I now know what ambroxan smells like. There’s definitely a kind of sea creature animalic fecal thing going on. Like I said…odd.
In other news, I took a flier on ordering prescription sunglasses online this morning. A site was having a sale, so I put in an order. I have glasses that are “transitions” and regular sunglasses. The former don’t get dark in cars nor when I wear a hat. The latter I have to take on and off. So…we will see.
Do report back on what the sunglasses are like.
I’m the worst with sunglasses. Never spend more than $15 dollars on a pair and try to get below $10, haha. I wear contacts so no need for prescription sunglasses. Hope you are very pleased with your online purchase!
Should have said “took a flyer”…spelling was off.
And…we are back to thinking this is a scrubber.
My theme this week seems to be “pile it on!” It is only a little after 9 and I dumped (and thunked) several mls of L’Etrog on my arms post shower, and just applied Dilettante before settling in at my desk. With so much smoke still in the air (although it has cooled down greatly so not so oppressive) I’m feeling the need for perfumes at symphonic levels. Many folks are waking up to the loss of their home this morning–so I do not resent the smoke; I figure it is a good reminder that we are all in this together.
Countdown until my older son heads across the country to college. It feels both totally mad, and that there is no real happy alternative. He’ll be quarantining for a little over two weeks once he arrives. Ostensibly, the school has set up meal delivery. Since he’s transferring, he will know no one, and be sequestered alone in his dorm room. At least it is huge (I think it usually houses three students) and has a kitchenette. I’ve made him promise me that he will regularly log-on to the dopey social events no matter how awkward and unfulfilling they are . . .
Maybe he can meet someone to exchange sarcastic chat messages with!
From your keypad to God’s ear!
Hugs and good vibes for both you and your son!
Best wishes for your son’s move. Was also thinking how time flies and that Oakland Fresca’s son can’t be in college already…and yet he is. 🙂 I think when you meet people IRL or begin posting to a blog, etc. their ages and their kids’ ages are kind of locked in and as time goes by you keep thinking of everyone at the ages you were introduced at. I have found this at work too…maybe it’s just my muddled head too. 😉
I know, crazy, right?
I take strength in your strength when it comes to sending your kids out on their own. It’s hard and scary. Wishing him the best!
My older son is a rock, but it is still scary. Every so often, I realize that I’ve been holding my breath–guess that is parenting.
I think we have a lot to learn from our kids these days. They are so strong and full of adventure, and adaptable and open to change. They also communicate so much more easily than our generation. Good luck Oakland! I feel, for you.
That sounds tough for him 🙁 I do not envy anyone who is going to college right now.
Our air is much better today; our AQI is “only” 70. I went on a long walk this morning because I could not stand to be imprisoned at home. It wasn’t the best thing for my asthma, but it was for my soul.
Long walks have been my lifesaver through this pandemic–it is tough that that outlet is now something to worry about with the air quality!
I hope he gets better food than these students:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/22/nyregion/coronavirus-tiktok-college-quarantine-food.html
This is hilarious and so sad all at the same time: “On Thursday, N.Y.U. issued a statement apologizing to the 2,600 students who are living in isolation for what it said were “valid” complaints about a “particularly regrettable error.””
Oh and is this the one who likes cologne / perfume? If yes, maybe you can participate as mother-son at the next perfume event (Arielle Shoshana does hers on selected Fridays, Osswald had / has some, as does Sniffapalooza, etc. etc.).
I’m glad that this day at work is over.
The weather has gotten crazy with really strong wind and waves of heavy rain.
I’m in 1725 from Histoires de Parfums
I have to smell this!
Following someone’s DC CP of “Use it up” am in EL Jasmine White Moss from a rollerball decant. I don’t use it because of the rollerball, but since I like JWM have decided to tackle the remaining couple of mls.
Wishing everyone well,
Very late getting back to comments, but hope you are well too AnnieA! You did smell great yesterday.
In Zoologist T-Rex of the I-didn’t-expect-to-like-this CP.
Tyrannosaurus Rex – Everyone talked it about as TOO MUCH and said you would smell like meat on a BBQ in the opening.
I felt like I had to try it but would hate it, as I had an unpleasant experience 17 years ago living (very temporarily) above a chorizo factory where the building owner had neglected to tell myself and the other apartment occupants that the wood floors were most definitely NOT airtight. Ugh. Put me off smokey scents for a long time.
So much to my surprise, I found T-Rex wearable. The smokey opening has a lot of bay leaf, pine and neroli that comes out strong on me, so it’s smoke filtered through a Cretaceous jungle rather than straight up BBQ. As it progresses it turns into very honking dense, chewy flowers, resins and leather that balance out the smoke.
It’s A Lot and I certainly wouldn’t say it’s for everyone. But I was massively surprised by how enjoyable it is! When my sample is tinked I may want a travel size of this one down the road.
I too was surprised by how much I liked it. I even went for the FB!
Oh. Well done explanation of my response to it!
I still want to try T Rex! I can’t keep up lol
I’ll include it in the package! It may be too much for 110 degree heat but dinosaurs were resilient at one point!
Sounds like it ought to be sniffed, regardless whether you like it or not.
SOTD not exactly a forgotten bottle, but from “the back roads by river of my memory:” Too Much Champs Elysees Vital Sensations. I happened to wear a bergamot forward scent yesterday, and here Bergo was again! But with CE! While checking the notes I saw some for sale and VS was a travel exclusive. That made me think adding the bergamot was to make it more like a cologne. It is nice, and not too shy but I gave myself a good spritzing.
Sounds like you have a unique perfume!
Well, I am a Champs Elysees fangirl; I had to have each flaker. 8)
Trying to get on a virtual beach with Acqua di Sale, but sadly just biked to work with very strong winds… Then my colleague called in sick and I was swamped with work for the whole day.
I hope the cases in France will go down soon, otherwise we will not be able to get there for our holidays again, we were booked there for may, but then the lockdown happened and it seems this will happen again.
I hope you’re able to go! 🙁
TDC Sel et Vetiver for me, trying to will warm summer and beaches back. I shouldn’t complain as it’s sunny and the temperature is quite pleasant, but there is a definite early fall feel to things. Hard to believe the kids are going back to school soon…still waiting on the details of that, but I do at least now know the date.
Not sure what I’ll wear later today. It’s my 25th anniversary today, but then, if I wore what I liked 25 years ago, I wouldn’t have much to choose from (Acqua di Gio for women, if I recall, was the only bottle I had back then; not sure if that still exists. Oh, and I might have had a rogue bottle of Jil Sander.) Not exactly the way we’d been expecting to spend our 25th anniversary (the plans had involved a bucket list trip), but apparently my spouse has something planned that’s also kid-tolerant, since babysitting isn’t happening. Gotta love COVID life.
Happy Anniversary, however you spend it!
Happy anniversary. I hope you have a nice celebration.
Happy Silver Anniversary! ???
Happy Anniversary! ?
Happy silver anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks, everyone!
Oh, belated happy 25th, that’s lovely! You can do the bucket list for 26 🙂
SOTD = Parfums de Marly
Habdan ? – sweet, spicy, resinous and woody stewed fruits. Fragrantica lists apple as the fruit but my nose thinks it’s a plummy stewed fruit – YMMV!

I’ve had 3 straight days of 4-5 Zoom calls all before 12:30pm and it is draining. Now I have to get back to work. Looking forward to reading the rest of the comments as I was only able to read the first few!
This sounds VERY cozy and perfect for cool weather!
I agree! It also sounds like a SL scent. I have never sampled this house but it sounds great!
I really like it!
It is exactly as you described! I really wanted some juice in the bright red bottle but I ended up with the all black ?
Is the rest of your work week going to be loaded up with Zoom calls, too? Ugh.
Tomorrow will be very very bad with literally back to backs from 8:30 to 12:30 (5 meetings).
That deserves a very loud “PHBLLLLLLTTTTTT!”
Or the ? to all the meetings with a different finger.
Taking a longish lunch, on a busy day. Back to school hasn’t been working out well so far for either kid. Sotd is Organza for my week of tuberose perfumes.
Everything feels so unsettled this year. I hope things smooth out for you soon. At least you smell great today!
Thank you!
It doesn’t sound like back to school is working out for anyone. ?
It really isn’t.
Yeah, I’m not looking forward to back to school here. I have a feeling it’ll work fine for a couple of weeks, then there will be one outbreak and we’ll all be right back where we were in April, with all the kids at home (but with my spouse having to work full time). Aargh.
I hope you’re taking deep, tuberose-scented breaths!
My district is doing remote learning for the first 9 weeks then.. maybe a return to the classroom. Definitely taking those deep breaths!
After 9 weeks, do you have the option to continue with remote learning for your daughter? I know you mentioned she likes to be around people but may not understand the social distancing concept. How is she with mask-wearing?
I do have the option. She is about 75 percent good at mask wearing. This is her last year, and honestly I’m thinking of keeping her at remote learning. I will decide in October.
Hugs to you and your kids!
Always appreciated!
Wednesday!
1) SOTD is a combo of Organic Pharmacy Rose/Jasmine oil and Amelie Mae after a sweaty strength exercise routine & shower.
2) Done with resumes and doing cover letter templates now. Later on, a nice bike ride along the Eastbank Esplanade (masked) and will pack a sandwich and fruit for after the ride!
? on finishing the resumes. So to your detailed response to my inquiry yesterday, you are a good friend because I would not eve come close to doing what you’re doing.
My friend is a good person who just needs a little focused help. It’s a pleasure to do something, no mater how small, that can help other people improve their lives.
I used to love a column in the Sunday New York Times by Enid Nemy, “New Yorkers, etc.” Browsing in the NYT archive, I came across her 1980 article on women wearing men’s fragrances:
https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1980/07/30/111800049.html?pageNumber=54
On Dior Eau Sauvage:
“It’s a noncontroversial fragrance to wear in business. It’s safe and kind of preppy, it doesn’t intimidate men. People take you more seriously if you don’t come on cosmetically. When I used to wear heavier fragrances, they became part of the conversation.”
From a woman who wore Gray Flannel and Givenchy Gentelman:
“A good men’s cologne stays fresh. I’ve always had a thing about fresh and outdoorsy smells.
I find it fascinating that at the dawn of the era of big hair and bigger fragrances, some women were already interested in fresh, clean, light, and understated fragrances.
Hi Nozknoz! MIssed you and was beginning to worry that you’d been buried under a pile of milk powder.
Thanks! Fortunately, the 5-pound bags are a lot easier to handle than the 50-pound bags would have been. ?
Good to see you nozknoz!
Thanks, got busy with something else and then remembered how I missed everyone!
I echo the good to see you comments!
Thanks, I look forward to catching up on the new fragrances you’ve discovered while I was distracted!
Love that, thanks for the link!
Dealer’s Choice:The Enigma Code.
This perfume has you baffled. There may be one note in it that you just can’t identify. Fragrantica lists the notes but what they identify as one thing smells completely different to you…their patchouli is your coconut, for example. Friends on NST say it’s a heavy hitter oriental but you smel a light floral!!! Will you ever crack the code?
Wearing Interlude! Off to count rabbits, daffodils, witch hazel, willow shoots in the cemetery. Yesterday we had a faint dusting of snow on the tops and it was cold
Oooo, I like this CP idea! And that has happened to me a few times.
Terrific idea!
I like this. Today’s Parfums de Marly Habnan smelled like stewed plums to me but Fragrantica lists apples ??♀️
Sotd ended up being Double Vanille..beverage of the day Hazy Little Thing Sierra Nevada. Lol I usually don’t like these citrusy, grassy IPAs but in this heat..kinda hits the spot. P
Oooooooh! That kind of IPA sounds right up my alley! ?
Still no scent for me; I am trying to minimize imposing on my evacuation hosts in any way I can. Just wish I could get that message across to my evil cat, who was bouncing off the walls from 4 to 6 am.
Hope everyone on the gulf coast stays safe!
Oh, it looks like it is going to be a doozy. Yes, do stay safe!
I had a cat who insisted on being fed at the same time EVERY day, including weekends. She didn’t care for the idea of her humans sleeping in late.
I conclude that you have an Easy Coast cat. Please stay safe!
Sends husgs to Pixel for hanging tough! And this cat lady sends chin scritches to *bossy cat* 🙂
I haven’t been sufficiently focused to decide on my theme for the week, so it’s been my usual “whatever seems appropriate for the day”. I don’t know what happened on Monday, I realised at work that I’d forgotten to wear any perfume at all! I’ve done that only once or twice in the last 10 years.
Today will be the original Omnia. I had a bottle years ago and finally bought another.
You need an EBP for the office!
I am wearing samples of the new Jo Malone Cypress & Grapevine and Fig & Lotus Flower for the first time today. (Coincidentally I just bought fresh figs at Whole Foods today too.). Cypress & Grapevine is a dry woody green fougere. I like Fig & Lotus Flower more than I thought I would and it isn’t as floral as I suspected, although more people probably would think the C&G the more interesting of the two. My first impressions is I like both and I like how they smell together, one on each wrist.
I got organic fresh figs from WholeFoods last Saturday – half already gone and the other half will be eaten with prosciutto tomorrow!
Thanks for the review of the new JMs.
? ? ? (= Woohoo!)
Peoples of NST – I was just invoiced for Chanel Le Lion. I will probably get it next week. In the meantime, U.S. only, the split cost is $14.50 for 5mLs and $24.50 for 10mLs. The 200mL bottle is $390 plus $10 shipping which makes it $2 per mL. The shipped cost includes $4.00 for postage and new envelope & packing materials plus $0.50 for the glass atomizer.
If you have not emailed me previously about your interest, I still have room for 40mLs. If interested, please email me with subject Chanel Le Lion and let me know how many mLs.
Everyone, including those who had already me an email, no need to pay yet until you get an email from me next week reconfirming the volume for your split.
Thanks!
Woohoo!
Indeed!
Emailing you now!
Yay! Saw your email!
Exciting perfume news from you!
It is exciting! In the other hand, my bottle of Sticky Fingers has a wonky atomizer spray (known issue but this I was told AFTER I reported it – zero juice coming out of the spray mechanism – not good). I got a shipping label to return it and I opted to wait for the next batch.
Perfumed ups and downs for you today.
Ok, I’m in for 10ml too. I was trying to resist, but it was futile. I’ll email you as well✌?
LOL!
Commando for the first part of the day, due to a late morning dentist appointment. When I arrived, a note on the outside doors of the building instructed arriving patients to call them and wait in their cars until requested to enter. So I did. I was the only person in the office when I arrived. Clean bill of health for this go-round. One thing I did notice and comment on was that the hand sanitizer was potent! It smelled kind of like tequila or another high-proof spirit.
Smelly notes: I picked some more Rose Jam shower gel at my local LUSH store after the dentist. They are not allowing any shoppers in the store itself. Instead, they have the door blocked, and set up with Plexiglass booths that have one line for online order pickup, and another for shopping what is physically in the store. I did get to sniff the Flying Fox body spray, generously spritzed on a scent strip. Hajusuuri should stay FAR away from this one: BIG white indolic flowers in spades.
SO(Half)TD = back in Flowerbomb La Vie En Rose, 2009 edition. I’ve been doing the “grab and go” this week, but I think I might have something more interesting for Friday.
Nice! Maybe the hand sanitizer was ummm homemade ?.
Re: Flying Fox – I think Robin likes this a lot because of jasmine, IIRC. I have stayed away from it but thanks for the reminder!
If they were using moonshine as hand sanitizer, it was really gloppy! ?
At work, they sent us gallon jugs of sanitizer. It stinks something awful!
I made sure that I washed my hands with soap and water first thing after I got home.
Our poor office manager had to search around to keep hand sanitizer in the office. He order one kind that was stinky! But like real perfume, a couple people thought it was fine. My best type was a watery one made by a local distillery 😉
Late to the party today. It was a very busy day, but the weather was gorgeous! Sunny, cool, crisp, just loved it.
SOTD JM Pomegranate Noir. It matched the temps perfectly and it is always enjoyable to wear it!
I hope any of you who are in the path of Laura stay well and safe.
You ARE late! I ended up not taking a walk because there was a last minute rash of emails and I just got done a few minutes ago!
You missed a very beautiful day! Tomorrow will be HOT again, but nicer days for walks are around the corner!
Enjoy that weather! You smell fab! ✌?
Thank you, Deva! It was great today! Back to the oven tomorrow!
Gorgeous weather twins! So happy to hear that you were able to enjoy it, too! ???
It was a wonderful break from the heat! Looking forward to days like today soon!
Hey you! I hope you are well!?????
Thank you, Lillyjo! Trying my best! ?
