Not really a surprise. I think independent perfume makers have done a bit better. At least I hope so.
You would think niche & indie might have done better, but I do wonder — would be surprised if even those companies were not hurting.
I know friends who re-bought fragrances they were low on or out of as they knew the fragrances , but surely Indie/Niche (which are potentially more likely to be left-field & polarising) are less likely to be blind buys given there are no samplers & you cant try anything beforehand – it’s too much like pot luck when you’re spending $$$
I tried 2 new fragrances from penhaligons during their sale But only because they have a totally no-quibble return policy so I could try it & return it to them if I didn’t like it – even though it had been opened & sprayed.
I guess I am the exception! I have ordered samples from Jorum Studio, Chris Rusak and D. S. and Durga and also L’Artisan! Almost all these tries ended up in buys because all except L’Artisan offer small sizes or travel sizes. L’Artisan gives you your shipping back on your full bottle purchase. The two samples I ordered from them were freeee!
I am doing my part to keep indie and niche afloat!
Haha I wanted to try that with Roja Dove but his samples cost between £60 & £395 ! For a sample ! I’ll wait till his store reopens & I can try for free!
