A simple game (which I think we have not played since 2009): name a fragrance note you like, others can reply with their favorite perfume (or body product? candle?) with that note. Got it? I've started with hyacinth...
Note: top image is Bowl of beauty. [doubled & background extended] by Mark Freeth at flickr; some rights reserved.
Hyacinth.
The original Parfum D’Ete by Kenzo (frosted bottle) has a beautiful hyacinth note.
Oh THIS is why I’ve had this on my eBay watch list forever. OK, I’m pulling the trigger.
It does! and the bottle is so pretty…
Hyacinth and a Mechanic.
Eric Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth
Supra Floral
Also my favourite, (Manfred Mugler’s as well, along with Mugler Cologne)
Bas de Soie
Grand Amour
MDCI Chypre Palatin
Tom Ford Ombre de Hyacinth
An oldie, but a goody: Silences by Jacomo.
Pre-2012-ish Chamade had a great hyacinth note. It’s much rosier to me now.
Heure Exquise, Vacances and Ostara.
For a cheap thrill, Castelbel Water Hyacinth soap. I put mine in my lingerie(underwear)drawer and it has beautifully scented that small space for several years now.
Jo Malone Blue Hyacinth. Photorealistic!
Guy Laroche Fidji
Another vote for Bas de Soie.
Another vote for Bas de Soie, one of the few SL that works well for me and has staying power. I notice the iris most, but the sweetness must be the hyacinth.
Agree with older Chamade.
Cristalle EdT, No. 19, and No. 19 Poudre all have beautiful hyacinth notes…
Vanilla. ?
Shalimar, pick one! I’m personally fond of the Eau de Cologne and wear it frequently. No one does vanilla quite like Guerlain.
Anima Dulcis. ❤️
Micallef Note Vanillée
Dior Addict
La Maison de la Vanille Eau Sauvage de Madagascar
Orchidée Vanille, the first vanilla I liked.
I ran out of my decant of this one, it is very sweet but I do like it a lot.
Tihota!!
Falling down now on the floor!
Mona di Orio Vanille
Vanille 44
Maison Lancôme Lavandes Trianon
Vanille Insensee, Eau Duelle and my all time favorite vanilla: Casmir.
Second Eau Duelle. Love that one.
Me too. I went through a decant of the edt. Do you prefer the edt or the edp?
I haven’t tried the edp. So far all my love goes to the edt. Do you have experience with the edp?
Seconding Vanille Insensee. 🙂
Bvlgari Black, rubbernilla ?
Diptyque Eau Duelle
Organza Indecence, Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise, Laura Mercier Vanille Gourmande, Sylvaine Delacourte Vangelis, Valkyrie, and Virgile
Virgile is my favourite of the Sylvaine Delacourte Vanillas.
Second this
Oh, one of my favourite notes:
A ce soir by Pont des Arts, Havana Vanille and Vanilia, both by L’Artisan and Fleur des Comores MPG.
Ding ding ding –
My favorite vanilla is the modest Pacifica Island Vanilla, body lotion and spray, which smells alarmingly of alcohol when first sprayed but dries down nicely. I just recently purchased the sublime vanilla, vetiver and bourbon concoction that is OK Fine Fragrances Double Vanilla Bourbon aged in oak bourbon barrels.
Shalimar !!
Parfums de Nicolai Vanille Tonka, or for colder weather, Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser.
I enjoy Vanilla Tonka – but wouldn’t say it’s for the die hard vanilla fan.
Casmir and Vanille Insensee.
Farmacia Ss. Annunziata Vaniglia del Madagascar. Also seconding the vote for Pacifica Island Vanilla above, for the “cheap thrill” category.
My first vanilla love was Tocade (bonus if you share my love of Serge Mansau bottles) but I recently acquired Felanilla and it charms me with its polite but lingering non-cakey vanilla.
Cheap thrill Vanilla is Outremer Vanilla. Cute Vintage bottle labels, I put this on at bedtime, it soothes me to sleep, but does not linger.
Yes! That is a lovely vanilla and such a deal.I like Song of India Vanilla perfume oil also as a similar vanilla.
Coty Dark Vanilla.
YSL Cinema – I know this one is listed under mimosa, but for me this one is vanilla with mimosa and almond and etc. It’s gorgeous.
Ooh, fun!
Musk.
A quad of musks for you: Musk by Lorenzo Villoresi, Kiehl’s Musk edt, Narciso Rodriguez ‘for her’ edt and Musk by Bruno Acampora. I enjoy each one of them!
Thanks! I’ve tried all but the Lorenzo, so I will add that to the list!
Musc Koublai Khan
Ah yes, the king of musks I’ve read, still need to try this one!
Musk is a favourite note of mine, so here goes: Musc Nomade, MdO Carnation, Mure et Musc and TBS Red Musk.
I’ve only tried Mure et Musc, more to add to my list-thanks!?
Second musc nomade
Over the Musk!
Love that one, I should probably get another decant.?
Chanel No 18
I see this one mentioned but have never tried it, thanks for the reminder!
Chanel 1957
Another love, drained my decant from your split last year very quickly!?
Uh Oh.
Oh, me too. I keep forgetting to buy it.
Ottoman Empire by Areej le Doré. Musk Khabib by Bortnikoff
Haven’t heard of either of these, thanks!
Musc Ravageur
I have a small decant of this one, love it, along with Le Labo Labdanum 18, which I think of as MR’s little sister.?
I adore this one in it’s older formulation. It got thinner and less exquisite when FM changed hands.
Russian Musk from Areej Le Dore. I don’t know if it’s still available because he can only make small batches and they sell out fast. He manages to get real tonkin deer musc and it’s really in it’s own class. If you are vegan, then of course it’s a no-go.
I checked Luckyscent and it’s not available right now, but I’ll keep it in mind, thanks!?
Musc 25. ❤️
Right! Almost forgot about this one! Have you ever tried their Another13? Wondering how it compares.
It’s in a lot of the Zoologist scents, unsurprisingly, notably, Sloth, Bat, T-Rex.
I’ve tried so many and I come back to Coty Wild Musk and Kiehl’s Musk as best in show.
I like the Kiehl’s too.
AG Musc Nomade and Soivohle Alpha Musk, for cuddly and skanky, respectively.
Coty Vanilla Musk.
Best thing out there. One of the few my heathen nose can pick the notes out. Citrus, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla. I guess the musk makes it so long lasting.
Grapefruit.
Eau de Pamplemousse Rose
This one has been on my ‘buy list’ for far too long. Thank you!
Also check out Hesperides from Fresh–good and inexpensive.
I second this suggestion! The shower gel is especially nice this time of year.
Seconding (thirding?) that and thirding the Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit. 🙂
Pamplelune…which is a great warm weather scent and I should break out for summer.
My favorite and only grapefruit perfume.
Ho ho. I have a few of those. Guerlain AA Pamplelune; Jo Loves Jo; Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit; PdN Balle de Match; 4711 Pink Pepper & Grapefruit; Hermes Pamplemousse Rose
Second Balle de Match (now called Eau des Sports)
Third for Balle de Match. I bought a full bottle of this one.
Pixel, you introduced me to the 4711 Pink Pepper & Grapefruit, and it’s up there as a favorite of mine. Also it became a favorite of a friend of mine when she smelled it, and she ordered a bottle (and I think the shower gel?) right away. 🙂
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine
Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial l’Eau
Oops, this was for Nancyleandros!
Got it, thanks! ?
Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa.
A sparkling pink champagne with a grapefruit note.
Atelier des Ors Pomelo Riviera
Molton Brown Bursting Caju and Lime body wash. It has grapefruit listed among the top notes. I would have just said citrus. Anyway, it’s very refreshing and a summer favorite of mine.
Have many favorites, but since it hasn’t been mentioned yet and it’s reasonably priced, DSH Pamplemousse.
Duly noted! Thank you! I’m been meaning to explore her line and this is a great place to start!
Maybe the longest perfume name ever – Paris Regarde Scintillant Milles Beautes from Dali Haute Pafumerie has a lovely tart grapefruit topnote. Fragrantica says mandarine, but I smell grapefruit.
Dasein summer! Grapefruit and cilantro.
Histoires de Parfums 1873, Colette.
Ninfeo Mio.
I like the grapefruit note in Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
Ooh what a lot of perfumes to try! My suggestion is Etro Shaal Nur.
Calyx, both the Prescriptives and Clinique versions.
Well, it’s a relative of grapefruit — I like Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradise.
Rose. (Preferably dark, spicy roses, but occasionally I don’t mind a green, airy one.)
Try to find a bottle of Elie Saab’s Essence No. 1: Rose. It’s stunning and can be sometimes be found on the cheap at discounters. It’s really something else. And this is coming from a person who wasn’t so fond of rose-centric fragrances…until that one.
Aramis Calligraphy Rose and Clinique Beyond Rose…I tried both based on comments here and they are very well done and relatively cheap.
Love Aramis Calligraphy Rose! My favorite from that line is Calligraphy Saffron, though.
Haven’t tried this line at all. Sounds promising!
Still love Une Rose best, but also wear and love La Fille de Berlin, Incense Rose, Rose Absolute, and POAL!!
Ugh, POAL! I get dirty, patchouli-drenched hippie with that one! Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Sorry…..
Ha! No worries.
Hope I didn’t offend with my remarks. 🙂
Tell us how you REALLY feel, Marjorie Rose. 🙂
Hehehe
What, a blushing violet like me?
LOL!
Seconding La Fille de Berlin. 🙂
Rose de Nuit
My all-time favorite rose!
TDC Rose Poivree, PR La Nuit.
Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar
Love this one! Rose and apricot–it’s so juicy!
Me loves it too
Me loves it three!
Molton Brown Rosa Absolute
I’m using the shower gel and love it. A jammy yet dark rose.
Then you would certainly enjoy the perfume.
Atelier des Ors Rose Omeyyade
Gorgeousness!
By Kilian Liasons Dangereuses
Also Guerlain Nahema and Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon.
Nahema is one I love, but not in its current iteration. I would scoop up an old bottle, if I were ever lucky enough to encounter it!
Mohur extrait, Rose de Petra, POAL.
My list of rose fav’s, exactly!
Rose Noir by Byredo works for me for this category.
Amouage Lyric
Lyric probably my favorite!
I heard rumors a few years back that with the changes happening at Amouage it had been reformulated. Can anyone confirm? Do I need to dig for old bottles on ebay, whenever I buy a backup?
I like Noir de Noir for darkest, spiciest, and Hiram Green Lustre for fresh green
I haven’t tried Lustre, yet. . . was a little scared off by the hype! I do like a couple HG scents already, though.
I didn’t like Lustre at all – it smelled damp
Interesting.
Damp like rotted?
Damp like soil?
damp like mildew – it just was uncomfortable although I am huge fan of the line otherwise
Dame Perfumery Desert Rose
I really need to get some testers of Dame scents. Don’t think I’ve tried any of them, and it’s a clear oversight!
Marjorie Rose, I have a set I got from sistine-ironically- that I’ve tried and would be happy to pass on to you. Email me at pkwisdom in the land of yahoooo.?
Oh, that’s very kind of you! Thank you!
Diptyque Essences Insensees Rose de Mai has been my new favorite love of late. Not dark or mysterious, though. For that I’d go with Rose Nacree du Desert!
Rose d’Arabie is a favourite, dark and rich.
Eau de Protection (ELdO) and Une Rose Nacrée du Désert (Guerlain), Mohur extrait.
Guerlain Encense Mythique D’Orient.
This is a beauty, must dig out.
Robert Piguet Calypso
I just ordered a sample of this!
Hope you like it! It is beautiful!
I love rose fragrances! (And just did a daily rose post every day of May on my own blog, in a “Roses de Mai Marathon”). I usually go for fresh, floral roses over dark and spicy, but I do love Aramis Calligraphy Rose, and some other darker roses.
Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Inner Sanctum is a wonderful deep, spicy incense rose. American Beauty is my favorite rose soliflore. Rosine Un Zest de Rose is fresh, green tea rose. Eau d’Italia Paestum Rose is another beautiful incense rose as is Tauer Une Rose Chypree. So many beautiful roses!
Ahh yes, I love Inner Sanctum as well.
I like all the laughing roses. The ones that have a sense of humor. Andy Tauer Rose Flash, Tocade, Slumberhouse Sadanne with those raspberries and strawberries and maybe a little red wine. I think the sexiest rose perfume is the original Agent Provocateur. Their is also a beautiful rose note hiding in Tom Ford Sahara Noir.
Love the idea of laughing roses!
Agent Provacateur is gorgeous!
Aandy Tauer Une Rose Chypree for spicy, and Tauerville Rose Flash for jammy. Both are dark roses.
URC is so beautiful, and I feel like it doesn’t get enough love! It’s not as flashy as PHI, but so deep and fascinating!
Did someone already mention Rose Flash?
We did! The most edible of Rose perfumes, to my nose. I really enjoy rose petal jam and raspberry jam and Rose Flash smells good enough to spread on toast?
I made some rose jam after Kevin’s article here years ago. And I’ve canned berries the last few years (in a little juice and wine) to great success.
Now I’m thinking I need to try making rose raspberry preserves! I rarely eat jam, but I love to scoop some berries on my oatmeal or yogurt in the morning.
One for the airy category: Dyptique Eau Rose.
I like that one a lot, and TDC Kashan Rose. Also Lush Imogen Rose. 🙂
I’ll add my favorites, since I didn’t see them mentioned. Rose is my favorite note (and I have nearly 50 rose bushes in my gardens) but I dislike many rose perfumes on me for one reason or another.
Mohur – Neela Vermiere (all-time favorite perfume)
Ce Soir ou Jamais – Goutal
Rose Absolue – Goutal
Tobacco Rose – Papillon
Sa Majeste la Rose – Lutens
Ta’if – Ormonde Jayne
L’ombre Dans L’eau – Diptyque
Marni Rose
Another vote for OJ Ta’if – a beautiful fragrance. Love the combo with saffron.
Mad Madame.
Orange! Not the blossom, I’m talking about the juicy, bright fruit.
4160 Tuesdays Orange Tree. Most wonderful realist orange ever. This is a new release.
Yes! It’s beautiful.
Who stocks this in the US?
It’s new so not up on their sites yet, but I would contact Nir Guy at Perfumology or Luckyscent about availability.
okay thanks for the tip!
I was going back to some older NST posts and one that caught my eye and I’m planning to find a decant of is Mandarine Basilic. Sounds delicious and perfect for summer. Not tried it, but just sayin’.
A wonderful fragrance!
Light, bright and cheery!
It smells like fresh juice when you first spray it on.
It doesn’t last, but that is the way of citrus scents.
Hee hee! I just thunked a decant of Mandarine Basilic, and it is indeed wonderful. It’s going on the FB list, methinks.
I got a travel spray Mandarine Basilic on Fragrancenet.
*enabler pin
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine.
+1?
+2?
Diptyque Eau des Sens
Interesting.. this is more blossom than orange to me. I do love it.
Jo Loves Green Orange and Coriander
………and Jo Malone Orange Blossom is a good one also
Tocca Stella
+1! I tried this after you mentioned it a few weeks ago. It’s lovely.
Chanel Paris-Riviera
Oh! And Jo Malone Orange Bitters for an orange that likes cold weather.
Does tangerine count? If so, L’Artisan Mandarine Tout Simplement. Straight up tangerine juice and peel.
Also… Azemour!
This!
Yes!
Orange-adjacent: Tangerine Vert by Miller Harris.
Ooh, yes, I like this one a lot!
I second Azemour!
Bigarade concentree
L’Artisan Seville l’Aube! And Orange Sanguine, and Azemour.
Seconding Seville a l’Aube. And several Atelier Cologne fragrances. 🙂
Definitely Orange Sanguine! Like a burst of fresh oranges all over you!
Ooh. ? Rose is kinda a gimme for me (no idea how many I own at this point, but I’d totally reach for more!). Here’s a harder one–is there a GOOD strawberry fragrance? I’d even consider shower gel or lotion. . . I was picking berries this week, and the field smelled A-MA-ZING as it heated up in the afternoon–ripe, sweet strawberries, warm soil, a bit of sweet, earthy manure. . . I would reach for a bottle that smelled like that.
Yes to this!
Hilde Soliana Fragola Salaata.
Aaahhh, Fraaagola Saalaaata: one day, I might just get a bottle. Love those berry scents. I have had a sample for a couple years. I wonder if the current versions is still as fun?
There’s a new one from Kyse that came out this year w/ strawberry…Sérénade aux Fraises…haven’t tried it yet but plan to…curious if anyone else has tried it yet?
I tried it, it’s sweet like pretty much all of her stuff. I liked it. 🙂
SHL Rose Petra. ALD Ottoman Empire. The Rising Phoenix Rose Musk, Tauer PHI.
Slumberhouse Sadane
Curious on this one.
It’s absolutely wonderful – I realized I had to buy it when I found I was unable to wash the sweater I’d worn my sample in.
LOL!
Strawberry and raspberry to my nose.
Yum! Sounds good!
Not exactly what you’re asking for, but Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache.
https://nstperfume.com/2013/12/09/imaginary-authors-cape-heartache-dawn-spencer-hurwitz-amouse-bouche-fragrance-review/
I feel like Josh could really work with a manure note, if he wanted to. 🙂
Totally agree, Josh is so talented.
I don’t love all of his scents, but I really appreciate he’s willing to take risks.
Have never smelled it, but always wanted to: Cartier l’Heure Convoitee II
Give me the best in Incense!!
Heeley Cardinal, Profumum Olibanum, CdG Zagorsk
Comme des Garcon’s Avignon and Heely’s Cardinal.
Ready? Armani Prive Bois d’Encens; Norma Kamali Incense; Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures; SSS Incense Pure; Smell Bent Incensed & Incensed Short Fuse; House of Matriarch Devotion; I could go on….
Ditto on the SSS and Smell Bent!
Iris Cendre, Fille en Aiguille and (ducking down!) SL Serge Noire.
I love Serge Noire
OMG this was the worst scrubber on me! Heehee.
I could only render my sample wearable by adding a big swig of Virginia Cedar essential oil.
I have a soft spot for SN, but not enough to buy it. So weird and wonderful!
I love it, too. It’s a really intense, great incense on me.
Serge Noir is very wearable for me, and got a compliment at a neighborhood potluck supper. I wonder if M. Lutens ever attended something like that??
CdG Kyoto
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant
Unum LAVS and Abdes Salaam Attar/La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam
Yes to Unum LAVS
+1
Both gorgeous!
IUNX Eau Sento
AdV Copal Azur
No.1 is Avignon
I adore Copal Azur.
SSS is great.
Profumum Olibanum is fabulous.
Jovoy Liturge is on my radar.
IUNX Eau Sento +1 🙂
Profumum Roma Olibanum
Tauer Incense Flash
Tauer Incense Extreme
Liquides Imaginaires Sancti
Mona di Orio Myrrh Casati
Philipe Sorcinelli’s SAUF line – Plein Jeu III- V (the weird name is because the line is all named after pipe organ stops, and the bottles look like organ stops too), Jaisalmer by CDG, seconding Profumum Olibanum.
Sorry to recommend something discontinued, but Bond no. 9’s Andy Warhol Silver Factory (later just Silver) was such a joy
Yes, I really enjoyed this one too, Regina
All of the Comme des Garcons incense series (except Zagorsk for me, there’s a greenish note that doesn’t work for me. Maybe I need to try it again).
GDG Black is really wonderful, even though it’s not part of the incense series.
Calling All Angels by April Aromatics
Just gorgeous!
Without even a shadow of a doubt: Bois d’Encens Armani Privé.
I want this
I crave this
I put it in my cart all the time
Mind you, I have never even tested it.
Maybe it’s time for an extra large sample?
Feu Secret
What’s the one by Etro? I’m blanking our on the name.
Messe de Minuit?
Yes!
Tauerville Incense Flash.
Second this
Black Cashmere!
That is a beauty!
My favorite!
SSS Incense Pure and AG Encens Flamboyant are the incense jewels in my collection. CdG Avignon for photorealistic Catholic Mass incense.
Seconding or thirding the people who said the Comme des Garcons incense series. Also the CdG Blue Encens. And the Profumum Roma Olibanum. I like L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer and Serge Lutens La Myrrhe.
I have recently fallen in love with the somberly beautiful L’Artisan Passage D’Enfer, a subdued incense. I wish it came in smaller sizes.
Also, so few Serge Lutens I enjoy but the Encens et Lavande is really good.
Memo Tiger’s Nest; Jovoy La Liturgies des Heures; La Myrrh of course; Bengale Rouge; Rose de Petra…
Carnation.. love to find an interesting, but wearable, modern carnation.
Discontinued, but if you can find it, Ineke’s Sweet William is wonderful.
I went on such a tour of carnation scents a few years back. Even the really wonderful ones disappear after 30 minutes to an hour, if you’re lucky. 🙁 I remember one being the best, but still disappearing too quickly. . . I can’t remember what it was, though!
DSH Oeillets Rouges
Yes, DSH!
YRD!
That’s zombie speak for yes. ?
Lol!
Etro Dianthus
There’s the Prada Infusion. Even though it is a Rose, Oeillet Bengale from Aedes smells of spicy carnation to me.
Ditto the aedes
Also, Oriza L Legrand Oeillet Louis XV and Royal Oeillet, my favorite.
Seconding the Oriza L. Legrand Oeillet Louis XV.
Serge Lutens Vitriol D’Oeillet
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet
Guerlain Lui
Fragonard’s Billet Doux, if you like a sweeter carnation.
Caron Bellodgia
L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage
Seconding those. 🙂
Discontinued but still pretty available: L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage. Just beautiful!
I second Etro Dianthus, Caron Bellodgia (still findable on the bay), and L’artisan Parfumeur Oeillet Sauvage. LP Oeillet Sauvage lasts up to 6 hrs on me, Bellodgia over 8.
Carnation
Aedes Oeillet Bengal
Haha..
perhaps we should create our own?!
I personally struggle w/ carnation in perfume but Solstice Scents Estate Carnation has lots of carnation and has a vintage feel to my nose.
If you are in the US, I am happy to send you a spray EDP sample of Estate Carnation…I tried it once but too much carnation for me…you can reach me at gmail where I am sherainsocal ??
I just put on a spritz of CdG Carnation from their Red series. Nice if fleeting,
I remember thinking that one starts off very nicely.
Very fleeting indeed, but with 100 mLs or at least I think that’s the size of the bottle, no problemo ?
CdG Red 2
Caron Bellodgia
L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage
Oeillet Sauvage by L’Artisan. Vitriol d’Oeillet by Serge Lutens.
Caron Belladogia.
My Grandmother wore Caron Bellodgia. If you can vintage, all the better.
I meant if you can find…
I’m wearing Dior Fève Délicieuse today. Hit me with your top tonka bean scents. 🙂
Esprit d’Oscar.
Tonka Imperiale, which I’m sure you’ve already tried and/or own. ? I feel that and Feve Delicieuse are spot on for tonka lovers. Oh, and Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka.
I own both of those. 🙂 Great picks!
Lush Twilight (scent) / Sleepy (shower gel, body cream). Tonka & Lavender.
Hermes Vetiver Tonka
I am addicted to both of these. They are sublimely comforting.
Reminiscence Tonka
JM Myrrh and Tonka.
Guerlain Oriental Brulant. Oh how I wish it weren’t discontinued.
Fortunately I have a bottle of OB, but wish I had a backup, it’s gorgeous.
I second Amyitis: Espirit d’Oscar. Most gorgeous drydown e-v-e-r…
Just remembered the tonka in Fourreau Noir, but surely you’re familiar with that one.
Another favourite!
I smell a lot of tonka in Coco Noir. It works well for me in spite of the way citrus and tonka are usually a fail for me. In fact CN was a love at first sniff.
Maybe that’s why I like it – I don’t think of tonka when I smell it. I don’t smell so much citrus in the edp but it really stands out to me in the body cream.
Marine notes.
PSA: I still have 20ml available of Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure in the Splitmeet, if someone is interested.
https://nstperfume.com/2020/06/06/the-splitmeet-episode-13/
Parfum d’Empire Acqua di Scandola
Gabriela Chieffo Aquasala
L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne
I love Bretagne, but never tried the other two. Thanks! To my priority sample list they go!
Hope you like em
So, it isn’t listed as a note, but I get a wonderful saltiness to FdO Ambrosine, like warm, salty beach skin.
Perfect! Thanks!
Eau des Merveilles Blue
Miller Harris Fleurs de sel
VCA Midnight in Paris smells salty to me…
Heeley Sel Marin
And I’m enjoying l’AP Couleur Vanille in this direction too…
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt
Seconding that. 🙂
Zoologist Squid
I like Villa Lympia by Oriza L. Legrand. Jessica reviewed it on NST two or three years ago, I think.
DS & Durga Rose Atlantic
Davidoff Cool Water Wave, Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue, and Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel.
Iris! Iris! Iris!
Iris Cendre.
Yes! Love this
Oh my! You are the iris expert! I don’t know what else to suggest that you have not tried yet. I am always waiting for your recommendations!
Always happy to help
Regime des Fleurs – Dove Grey
Masque Milano L’Attesa is lovely and pricey, and Prada Infusion D’ Iris Absolue is pretty nice at a pretty good price at the discounters.
Both are awesome
Xerjoff Irissss, SHL Khol de Bahrain, Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve.
There was a time when I wanted to buy Khol de Bahrein
SL Iris Silver Mist and Chanel 28 la Pausa
ISL is my iris nemesis ?
A scent for all those occasions you want to smell like dirt and carrots.
What you do not like about ISM?
Dirt and carrots? ?
To me it smells like damp underground tomb
Hermes Hiris
Second Hiris – it’s the perfume that really sent me down the rabbit hole!
VCA Bois d’Iris.❣️
Wouldn’t know where to start – too many favorites :). Let’s say, Le Labo Iris 39 – just because it hasn’t been mentioned yet.
Feu Secret by Bruno Fazzolari
TDC Bois d’Iris and Iris Poudre are my favorites.
Seconding the Bois d’Iris. Sometime I need to try the Iris Poudre. I think I have a sample of that…
Love les Carottes, Cuir de Russie
Chanel 19 (any and all formulations), Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDT, Le Galion Iris … I expect you’ve tried all of these, so this is just me listing my favorites. 🙂
I like the Iris Nobile. 🙂
Nirmal, Laboratorio Olfattivo.
Atelier Cologne Silver Iris and No. 19 Poudre.
You must try Jorum Studio Trimerous. Small batch perfume made in Scotland entirely inspired by real plants. This one is a love letter to all the weird and wonderful aspects of orris butter.
Hajusuuri likes it and she’s my scent twin.
No. 19 EdT and AG Heure Exquise.
Athalia, Iris and pink pepper. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I don’t. DSH Scent of Hope- Iris and peaches- supposed to be an homage to Iris Gris. IDK, it’s ok on me, but not fabulous. Gissah Miral- Iris and Oud – every time I try my sample of this it smells better. I see. FB in my future.
L’Artisan Iris Pallida. Sadly no longer in production, but beautiful nontheless
Pine notes
CdG Zagorsk
Dior Granville
Been lounging around and about to get in the shower and wash off Lyric. It’s time to switch my SOTD to either Feminite du Bois or vintage BaV.
Ineke’s Idyllwilde
AG Nuit Etoilée
PSA: There are incredible deals on the original blue bottle on ebay now (no affiliation).
Baiser de Russie
Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee
Dyptique Spain de Lumiere Roomspray. On clothes… not quite sure this I a) acceptable or b) safe but I adore that pine scent.
That’s meant to be ‘sapin’. Autocorrect…
OJ Woman.
Fille en Aiguilles
I still love Pino Silvestre Pino, in the green pine cone bottle! Cheap and marvelous. Like a short walk in a Pine Forest, not great longevity but that just means you can spritz a lot! I wear it like cologne, it is refreshing.
AG Nuit Etoilee EdT and Tauer Incense Extreme.
Orange Blossom?
Neroli Outrenoir, Seville a l’Aube
I concur 🙂
The Au pays de la fleur d’oranger Neroli Blanc series of 3 perfumes
I’m going to go with Chanel Paris-Riviera again…
Diptyque Eau des Sens
Yes! Love this one too.
Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca.
By Kilian Sweet Redemption.
Yes!
Oh, I love this one!
Hiram Green Dilettante is the first orange blossom I’ve ever truly loved.
Dilittante is my favorite OB too after years of searching for my perfect OB.
Neroli Outrenoir.
Caron’s Narcisse Noir. It seems to have disappeared, but Hiram Green’s Dilettante seems very similar. I think it’s been discontinued too 🙁
I second Neroli Outrenoir, and would add Guerlain AA Flora Nymphea (sadly discontinued).
Nicolai Cap Neroli
Néroli Intense, Cologne Sologne, Histoire d’Orangers, Néroli.
SL Fleurs d’oranger.
Yes, that’s very nice. 🙂
Lancome O de l’Orangerie and Jo Malone Orange Blossom.
Oh, I love that Lancome. It’s been on my fb list for years.
Someone on this site turned me on to John Varvatos Artisan as a wonderfully refreshing orange blossom. For serious orange blossom it is Seville a L’ Aube for me too.
Narciso Rodriguez for Her EdT.
What about the Sylvaine Delacourte Orange Blossoms. I really like Oranzo from that collection.
Chanel no 22. The scent of heaven.
Last night I successfully executed Magnolia grandiflora thievery under cover of darkness. ? I selected a bud that was beginning to open and am observing its progress on my kitchen countertop. Next to common objects, such as a milk carton, the thing is just freakishly large.
One of my favorite perfumes is Grandiflora’s Grandiflora Sandrine. Magnolia is an accord rather than a single note, so my challenge would be to name other perfumes that include an aquatic note (which I usually very much dislike) where it actually works.
To further handicap the field, my other perfumes in that category are Puredistance I and Guerlain Idylle Eau Sublime.
Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue
And heh, your shoulder must be all healed for you to pull it off. Besides, can anyone recognize you with your mask on?
True on both counts, thanks! The bone was completely healed by the end of April. I have normal everyday function back (and some extra-normal ? ) but still some work to do to regain the full range of motion and strength that I had before the six weeks in a sling.
Such intriguing recommendations, everyone, most of which I have not yet tried!
Eau D’Italie Magnolia Romana
Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia
Seconded — I like that one a lot. 🙂
Berdoues Azur Riviera.
Puredistance I is beautiful. I smell a magnolia accord in Amouage Memoir Woman.
Hehehe, magnolia thief!
Chopard Magnolia au Vetiver.
You must order a sample of Parfum Sartori Hana Hiraku! A musk melon, watery magnolia that is elegant and quite unusual.
Guerlain l’instant
I have a sample of a new perfume from Füm on its way to me. It’s called Jurassic Flower and is described as a coastal magnolia floral. I’ll let you know how it is once I try it.
That sounds amazing!
Osmanthus. I am trying a sample of Maher Olfactive Crystal Moon
Rahele.
Berdoues Peng Lai.
And seconding Rahele.
Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. So pretty.?
Yes it is beautiful!
Love!
Osmanthe Yunnan.
The Different Company Osmanthus
The Different Company Osmanthus is my favorite. For fruity, resinous osmanthus Perris Monte Carlo Absolue d’Osmanthus and Auphorie Miyako.
SL Datura Noir has osmanthus.
Jean Patou 1000, Eau du Fier, and thirding/seconding, Rahele, Osmanthe Yunnan, TDC Osmanthus.
Gucci Flora.
I still think I have yet to meet an Osmanthus fragrance that captures the beauty of the flowers in real life.
Auphorie’s Miyako!
Parfums d’Empire Osmanthus Interdite. I think I mentioned this one the other week. And I’ve tried many of the above with Osmanthus or Osmanthe in the name. 🙂
Coconut that DOESN’T smell cheap.
Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum
Thanks for the reminder on this one!
? I prefer it to Terracotta.
I think Terracotta smells cheap. Or maybe just bad. There’s definitely a plastic thing going on.
Oh, I am glad to read this. I tried Terracotta and did not like it at all. I am glad to have some company in that.
Glad to be of service, skalolazka! I am aware that I’m being rather free with my opinions today.
Ended up being my SOTD, thanks! Great beachy, summer scent.
Second the nuxe
Kyse Cocco alla Vaniglia
This ^
Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche. Other people get cardamom, but to me it smelled of coconut milk. So, no sunscreen, but coconutty.
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess
DS&Durga Radio Bombay
Phebo Bahia
+1 Bronze Goddess, but especially the body cream. Lasts longer and a little less sweet than the perfume, imo.
++
Tom Ford Soleil Blanc. I have not smelled it recently but I remember liking it when I did.
Tom Ford Eau de Soleil Blanc.
Third this. It’s a good one (along the lines of bronze godess)
Yosh Ginger Ciao
I concur with Ginger Ciao!
Honoré des Prés Love Coco
Cococabana.
And now you have me singing
https://youtu.be/7cB5VQAAOYk
?
There’s a surprising amount of coconut in L’Artisan Premier Figueier.
Ooh.. I think I have a sample of this. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m afraid of fig,lol
Parfums de Nicolai Juste en reve is a lovely white flower coconut one.
Not perfume, but I’ve just started using Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner with Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter Extracts. Smells really good and not cheap even though it is cheap!
Oakmoss anyone?
You are the expert, but for me Fidji and Balmain de Balmain.
I adore Fidji, such a good idea Balmain, i have never smelled it, off to save a search.
Got married in Fidji.
Oh, you were a stunning-smelling bride, it is timeless.
Eau de Rochas in it’s former glory.
Chanel Cristalle.
I do have a vintage bottle, going to use it this summer. Ah Cristalle?
Rochas Mystere
I only smelled it long ago, it’s going on the list.
Papillon Dryad
Thank you so much, a new one for me.
Yes, yes! So beautiful. I wore it just the other day.
Oh Yeah!!
And BF AuDeLa
Hermès Eau de Orange Verte and Ô de Lancôme. YMMV, but on me, the top notes on these disappear quickly and go right to straight-up oakmoss. Of the two, ODL lasts a lot longer.
I am enjoying Eau d’Orange Verte cream so much, it lasts, thanks for mentioning Eau de Lancôme, I might purchase it this summer.
Actually, that explains a lot to me about those Hermes eaux. Thank you for the observation. 🙂
Azemour, and seconding Cristalle and Dryad.
Thank you so much for this one, I need to delve into modern chypres.
Vintage Ivoire de Balmain.
That one is beautifully complex, I rather enjoy the newer one too, now discontinued as well, what is wrong at Balmain?
Apercu. It needs to be mentioned somewhere in this fabulous thread, IMHO!
Peony.
Would love some recommendations. I have nothing to contribute to this thread ?
Favorite flower, not a favorite note, sadly.
Favorite flower for me as well ?
Histoires de Parfums Vert Pivoine
Cacharel Noa or even better Noa l’Eau
Penhaligons Peoneve
Oh yes, I second this one.
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suade
I liked both Dior Holy Peony and Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou. I almost bought the Armani, still might get it someday.
Rose Pivoine
Thank you all so much for your recommendations. I’m taking notes.
I really love Burberry Brit Rhythm with lavender and Petalia, a special Givaudan molecule that was inspired by the scent of Peony.
Adanst, email me w/ a mailing address if you want a tiny bottle of Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede (a manufacturer’s coffret, not a homemade decant). It’s very pretty but just not for me. I’m on gmail at ellebe333.
Saffron.
OJ Ta’If (although it is not primarily about saffron)
Marc Jacobs Decadence.
Aramis Calligraphy Saffron, Les Nereides Oriental Lumpur (vintage is best)
L’Artisan Safran Troublant.
Seconding this one. Safran Troublant doesn’t last long on me, but absolutely worth frequent reapplications.
Byredo Black Saffron
Arielle Shoshana Saturday (which was inspired by her love of both Safran Troublant and passion fruit)
Technique Indiscrete Safran Nobile
Paloma Picasso Eau de Parfum (old version), and Rose Nacree du Desert.
Aftelier Chocolate Saffron Body Oil
Love this!
Felanilla
Coffee
Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa.
Sebastian Espresso Royale
DSH Cafe Noir
Ava Luxe Cafe Noir
Seconding both of these!
They are both great!
Montale Intense Cafe
Yep, plus Replica Coffee Break, JM Black Café Vetiver, and Lush Coffee
Black Vetiver Cafe is good and, if I’m not mistaken, it is currently also available from the Archive collection on the brand’s site.
Oh yes, snapped that up as soon as it became available.
Has the staying power of this one? JM scents tend to be very fleeting on me.
I like the Lush Cardamom Coffee. 🙂
Coffee Break is fun but fizzles out so soon (missing the caffieine?) I do love the lavendar in this.
Many, many sprays floral gal.
it’s Sebastiane, sorry for the typo.
Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
Yohji Yamamoto Yohji Homme
Akro Awake
If you like Demeter, they have a few straight up coffee scents, like Espresso and Fresh Brewed Coffee.
And, as a DIY option, you can place coffee grounds in warm oil, let that sit for a few days, then strain out the coffee. You can add it to any oil based concoction, and even mix it with a hard oil (like beeswax, or shea butter) for a solid perfume.
I can only make coffee and set the timer for morning. Pathetic, I know.
Not in the least. Life is already complicated enough. 🙂
I get a big beautiful coffee note from EldO Like This Tilda Swinton. It blends well with the pumpkin and immortelle. Coffee is not listed in the notes, as far as I can see, but I think about it as a fruity, spicy coffee perfume.
Linden (not discontinued)
April Aromatics Unter den Linden.
Jo Malon French Lime Blossom. I know that it’s discontinued, but it is currently available from the brand’s site in their Archive collection. For me it’s still one of the best linden scents in perfumery.
Re: Discontinue lindens–I harassed Andy online and in person (when he came out here for an event), trying to find some back-ups of Zeta, which I absolutely adore–sunshine in a bottle! Sadly, he confirmed there wasn’t a drop left hiding out anywhere.
Lol – brilliant. Although a shame to get auch direct confirmation there will be no more Zeta ☹️
I have a hard time reconciling a world in which there is no Zeta but Orange Star is still in production.
(To be clear, I don’t HATE Orange Star, but compared to some of his more complex and fantastic creations, it does not belong on the same shelf, imo.)
Provence Sante Tilluel (bonus: it’s inexpensive!), Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet (not discontinued, but hard to find in the US), Library of Flowers Linden
Grand Chalet is hard to procure in Europe also. They have a very weird online shop and the perfume doesn’t seem to be stocked much elsewhere.
That’s not good to hear! I will cherish the bottle I bought on eBay last year.
Frau Tonis Linde Berlin.
LILAC please! I know this is a tough one. My favorites so far are Aerin “Lilac Path” and Vilhelm “A Lilac a Day”. Went to Galimard (in Grasse) a year ago to use their “organ” to compose a lilac perfume, and I failed miserably.
Désarmant is one.
Soap or body products: Blanc Lila is my favorite soap for summer, and the body mousse is lovely also.
Puredistance Opardu.
Thank you! My first use of this NST! I have purchased a sample of Puredistance Opardu from Luckyscent and I cannot wait to try it! I appreciate your suggestion Undina. I have already tried the other suggestions so yours is a new one. I like the fact that I can find it from a reputable source! Again, thanks! Shirley
P. S. Sounds similar to Joy, the REAL Joy…..
En Passant?
+1 Wish that spraying it heavily made it last longer, though! I can really bathe myself in this one, and roll around like a dog in dead animal and still lose it in an hour or so.
another vote for en passant.
+1
Fourth vote for that. 🙂
Jean Patou Vacances (TBH, I haven’t sniffed the reissue, but it should be worth sampling.)
It is!
Pacifica French Lilac
After My Own Heart Ineke
Parle Moi de Parfum Totally White.
Not sure how to add a comment to my first comment. I have tried Frederic Malle “En Passant” and I cannot smell a thing!
Oops, never mind, then…
For the “cheap thrills” category, Demeter Lilac. 🙂
Tocadilly! I found Lilac Path just did not last, but a spritz or three of Tocadilly lasts all day for me.
Myrrhe plz:).
Caron Parfum Sacre
I haven’t tried this, thanks:)
Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka
Serge Lutens La Myrrhe
Annick Goutal Myrrhe Ardente
+1 on both of these!
Serge Lutens La Myrrhe
Pier Guillaume Myrriad
Fiele Myrrh
I just tried a sample of Les Indémodables’ Oriental Velours. I’m not entirely sure if I like it, but to me it’s myrrh, myrrh and more myrrh 🙂
Myrrhe eglantine
Aftelier Ancient Resins Body Oil
Myrrh essential oil and Frankincense are two oils I cannot live without. I use both on skin and diffuse them almost everyday. The most credible myrrh note in perfumery for me is Unum LAVS. Remember, this fragrance is the very same scent that is sprayed on the Pope’s vestments. Myrrh is not listed in the notes at all but it has that quirky cool creaminess that real myrrh imparts.
Wow! That sounds amazing.
Acqua di Parma Colonia Mirra — could also go in the incense category. 🙂
Ylang ylang
Embruns d’Ylang Guerlain
Ostera Penhaligons
I still haven’t tried the Guerlain, so thanks for the reminder.
Ostara is more about daffodil/narcissus and vanilla musk for me, but I do love ylang ylang as a supporting note.
Yeah I remembered it was more daffodil after I posted it lol
SSS Yin and Ylang
Yes, love this one!
Soooo pretty.
L’eau moheli -diptyque
I love this thread!
How about your favorite Tea scents?
Ooops- wrong place to post sorry!
Amouage Opus VIII
Agonist Isis
Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be (HIGHLY recommended!)
I’m crazy about the PMC! I will have to pay attention for the ylang ylang next time I wear Opus VIII. And gosh, I should re-try Isis. It’s been years since I tried it, and I don’t really remember it.
Agonist Arctic Jade
Zoologist’s Chameleon
Estee Lauder Amber Ylang-Ylang.
Yes, I love this one!
One of my dreams is to bath in a vat of Ylang-Ylang essential oil! My favorite use of this note is Tom Ford Lys Fume, sadly discontinued. I think if they had called it Ylang and Lily Pollen it might not be.
Bathing in a vat of ylang ylang essential oil sounds supremely luxurious. And I never managed to try Lys Fume.
le Labo Ylang – whatever they number is.
Adding two more from my collection: La Via del Profumo Tasneem and Guerlain AA Ylang & Vanille (sadly discontinued)
Amouage Portrayal.
Thanks for the reminder that I still haven’t tried this one. I’ll throw a sample in my next Luckyscent order.
Mimosa – one of my favorite spring notes. This year I managed to catch it blooming shortly before the quarantine.
Tiare Mimosa Guerlain..discontinued:(
Vilhelm Modest Mimosa.
This is my favorite, too.
Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom.
Amouage Love Mimosa
yes. lovely (expensive though)
Mimosa and Cardamom (Jo Malone).
Prada Infusion de Mimosa
L’Occitane Fleur d’Or & acacia if you come across it.
Artisan Mimosa pour Moi, Une fleur de cassie, Frédéric Malle.
L’Occitane Karite Bebe – delightful while it lasts.
YSL Cinema makes beautiful use of this note.
Totally with you on this, and it’s often forgotten.
I recall trying out Von Eusersdorff Classic Mimosa and liking it a lot!
jasmine, anyone?
I would especially like to know what perfume with jasmine you love (or love to avoid) and if the jasmine note in that perfume smells sweet or sharp to your nose. 🙂
Ooh, I love jasmine! That was the note I was going to pick.
Loves: Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge (sweetish), Molinard Jasmin (a tiny bit sharp), Jasmin et cigarette (neither sweet not sharp)
Diptyque Essences Insensées 2015…sweet!
I love this one!
I’ve just tried a sample of this one. I think the basil has turned to pee on my skin. I so wanted to love it, though!
Serge Lutens A la nuit is a properly indolic jasmine and really does smell like sitting under a jasmine bower at night.
La Via del Profumo/Abdes Salaam Attar Tawaf is a natural perfume, a rich and warm blend of jasmine and myrrh.
My two favorite jasmines – Tawaf and A la Nuit!
??
Tawaf is gorgeous. I showed no restraint and dumped the entire sublime sample on myself. I really should just buy a wee bottle.
It is amazing. Not sure anything beats it.
Hmm taking notes – I wasn’t that impressed from other offerings from this line
A la Nuit is hands down the best, “straight” jasmine to my nose–almost only sweet, with very little bite. For a bitier jasmine, but weirdly less long-lasting, I like Montale Jasmine Full. It’s almost metalic at the start. For a softer jasmine, when I just want to feel pretty, I reach for Ineke Poet’s Jasmine, which now that I look for it online doesn’t seem to be showing up. Maybe discontinued?
Sarrasins! I guess I would call it sharp, I tend to not like the sweet ones.
VC&A California Reverie, on the sweet side.
Pure love.
I love this one too but it doesn’t last at all on me
Really pretty!
Another A La Nuit fan here.
I think I’m about the fifth person to agree on A la Nuit. 🙂 I have the solid perfume of Lush Lust, which sometimes strikes me as very strong. So many more jasmine perfumes that I’m currently blanking out on, and will think of at 3:00 a.m. (lol)
OJ Sampaquita, which doesn’t actually smell like sambac jasmine, but is a nice jasmine of some other type. 🙂
I really love Providence Perfume Co’s Sweet Jasmine Brown, which I would describe as a warm/chewy jasmine, very unusual!
Songes.
I adore La Haie Fleurie but it has been discontinued for a while.
A great green jasmine with plenty of character is the Grandiflora Jasmin. (Madagascan I believe)
Seconding all of these.
How could I have forgotten Songes? Making a note to try the Grandiflora.
Jasmin Cherif
Sorry the correct name is Jasmin de Cherifa and it’s from L’atelier francais. It’s a luminous indole free jasmin
Rodin Olio Lusso – Jasmine and lily of the valley, super heady and indolic. It’s so damn rich, and I love it.
Pirouette Essentials Jasmine Musk – sweet yet rich jasmine and musk
SL A La Nuit and Sarrasins, plus Nasomatto Nuda. Jasmine almost always reads as at least somewhat sweet to me.
Ahh, Nuda! I wish I’d fallen in love with it before it became impossible to find.
Jasmin de Nuit is one of the few jasmines I have/like. I seem to recall TF Jasmin Rouge being very nice, though, and I have a jasmine body spray from BBW (Night Blooming Jasmine?) that is simple and pretty good as well.
How could I forget Jasmin de Nuit. That’s one of my first jasmine loves.
Hermes Cedre Sambac
Tuberose!
Carnal Flower, Nuit de Tubereuse, JM Angelica and Tuberose, Durga, Moon Bloom
Durga is just gorgeous!
Givenchy Amarige
Dior Poison
Tauer Sotto la Luna
Guerlain Mahora
Fracas
Petit Fracas
Tuberose Gardenia EL
Saks Fifth Ave Bond 9
Tubéreuse Criminelle, Vamp à New York, Goutal Tubéreuse and Gardénia Passion, Beyond Love and Rubj.
Serge Lutens Cedre.
Lys 41 is the tuberose I find the most wearable, but I love Carnal Flower, too.
Ds&Durga Durga- tuberose for the ages.
Carnal Flower and Tubereuse Criminelle. Pretty sure I am forgetting something…
Hiram Green Moon Bllom.
EldO Vierges et Toreros, sadly discontinued, if you’re looking for a very unusual tuberose. It’s the only tuberose fragrance that has worked for my skin despite loving the scent.
Montale Intense Cafe maybe
Castoreum?
Freetrapper by DS Durga – the bottle I’m splitting just arrived and it lists this note
DSH Rendezvous has castoreum and civet in equal measure with rich florals. Also, Francesca Bianchi The Lover’s Tale and Zoologist Hyrax.
Monegal Ambra di Luna
Rhubarb, please. I have the Hermes Rhubarb Ecarlate and love it. I like it in a starring role and not as a supporting player.
I assume you’ve tried the Aedes de Venustas as well?
Yes, love the AdV too.
Amouage Honour Woman
Hermes Rose Ikebana. For me it’s Rhubarbe Eclarte taken to the next level.
CdG Rhubarb in the Sherbet series is quite nice.
Making a note, thanks. 🙂 Sometime I’ll try their Sweet Tea fragrance, too.
Parfums de Marly Delina EDT
Mugler Aura.
Wouldn’t have spotted rhubarb in that. Will have to re-sniff.
Yes, Aura! I think I remember that the Aura edt brought out the rhubarb even more. But I really enjoyed my samples of both edp and edt because of the rhubarb.
Olfactive Studio Flashback is to me an easier to wear version of the Aedes. Like daytime vs. going out.
Olympic Orchids Chevalier Vert
Love that stuff.
While I’m here, not a perfume but the Marvis rhubarb toothpaste is very good!
Apricot!
Osmanthe Yunnan 🙂
Daim Blonde
Not the main note, but definitely present in Tauer PHI Rose de Kandahar.
Not listed, but I get apricot in Rihanna Rogue.
CSP Vanille Abricot. Yummy. 🙂 Also covers two categories.
Lemon!
Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat is my favorite lemon 🙂
it’s inexpensive and easy to find online.
Ubar?
Bronnley lemon soaps
Profumum Roma Acqua Viva. Best lemon ever, I think.
Sugar Lemon by Fresh, and the lemon body cream & hand lotion from C.O. Bigelow.
C.O. Bigelow also has a perfume or cologne of the lemon scent. I’m also very fond of their lemon body cream and the lotion. 🙂
Fresh Sugar Lemon struck me as more of a functional scent, but YMMV.
I like Pacifica Lemon Blossom, but I think that’s been discontinued.
Chanel Paris-Deauville–opens with strong bursts of citrus in which I find lemon the standout.
The Different Company – Limon de Cordoza.
Mediterraneo and SMN Eva.
Oh, and Escale a Portofino.
Eau d’Hadrien
Seconded. 🙂
4160 Tuesdays Fluffy Lemon Top
Another vote for this!
Guerlain AA Limon Verde
Jean Nate splash!
Guerlain Souffle de Parfum and the Intense version.
Lush Dad’s Garden Lemon Tree.
SJP Covet and SL Fleurs de Citronnier. Lemon is my friend in these. I like to smell musk on others, but these two are among the few musk-forward scents I can wear. My nose can appreciate an earthy musk, but my skin requires something astringent to balance it.
Ahh yes, the SL is wonderful and is actually one of my faves from the line.
Violet. (And what a fun thread! Thanks, Robin!)
It smells very 10 years ago, IMO, but I like the powdery, clean violet of Balenciaga Paris from time to time.
That was a nice one.
Has to be Bois de Violette!
Tie between Le Dix and Jolie Madame.
Chanel Misia
Annick Goutal La Violette
Guerlain Apres L’Ondee
Guerlain Insolence
Seconding those. 🙂
Kerbside violet
I love this one too. The only violet perfume in my collection.
Making a note to sample this one. 🙂
Seconding Le Dix.
FM Lipstick Rose
Meteorites.
Sonoma Scent Studio Voile de Violette and Wood Violet
TDC I Miss Violet
Pharrell Williams GIRL.
I have to check that one out. Love his songs…
Tom Ford Black Violet. I liked Violet Blonde pretty well, too.
I haven’t heard of Black Violet, but now I want it! Lol
Echoing others, but in order of how much I love/wear them: TDC I miss Violet (Bertrand Duchafour’s genius); Berdoues 1902 Violette EdC (lasts 30 mins but nice dry violet flower, bit of leaf, not pricey); Outremer Violette (sweetish, brief, but smells realistic). I got the Berdoues & Outremer inexpensively at smallflower online. I know this may cause a gasp, but I got Annick Goutal’s La Violette from Saks & hated it – actually returned it! All I could smell was spicey violet leaf for about 30 seconds & then, nothing! I took the $180 I got back & put it toward a couple bottles of I miss Violet instead. Maybe I just got a bad bottle of the Goutal…
Oh, I forgot – – I have Meteorites too, which has violet, but get an odd mothball smell from it sometimes. Also have/love Lipstick Rose, which is intense & gorgeous.
Yes, excellent, fun & instructive game. Thank you, Robin!
And in the cheap thrills category, Yardley London. 🙂
Histoire de Parfums Moulin Rouge – violet and leather. A scent I admire but don’t like wearing (not a violet fan).
This is cool! I was surprised to see over 300 comments when I sat down to breakfast, now I see why! I’m seeing lots to add to my list to sample.
And I am surprised to finally get back here at near midnight (major interior painting today, again) and we’re over 700.
I have another one – tell me your favorite hay scents, please!
Epidor
Santa Maria Novella Fieno is gorgeous.
St. Clair Scents First Cut!
Chergui, Vie de Château and Foin fraîchement coupé.
Second Chergui.
Corsica Furiosa and SSS Equestrian ??
First Cut, by St. Clair Scents! Just beautiful.
First Cut, DSH Parfum de Grasse, Parfumerie Generale Arabian Horse. L’Artisan Fleur de Narcisse is one of my favorites, but it’s discontinued and very hard to find these days.
The drydown of Eau de Guerlain smells like hay to me.
Great thread!
Tea.
Atelier Cologne – Oolong Infini
Assam of India or Vilhelm Dear Polly.
Duel, Eau du Fier, Thé Vert, Thé pour un Eté, Thé Bleu.
I’m a black tea person, myself, so I’d go Jacomo Art Collection No. 8 or L’Artisan Tea for Two (if you don’t mind some cigarettes in your tea).
Ditto on the No. 8!
That explains my feelings about Tea for Two. A couple of lovely NST folks had sent me samples of it, and I felt like I wasn’t appreciating it properly. I’m just not a fan of that kind of tobacco smoke.
Also, Marjorie Rose, your frank assessments about various fragrances mentioned here have been cracking me up. 😀 Thanks for the laughs!
Penhaligon’s Malabah
Escale a Pondichery Dior
Yes! Great summer fragrance
CB I Hate Perfume Russian Caravan Tea
Bvlgari Black
L’Artisan The Pour Un Eté
Arielle Shoshana Sunday
Really need to try Sunday sometime.
I had a small Sammarco Alter sample passed on to me from someone that did not care for it and I found it to be the most credible rendition of jasmine tea I have ever smelled. I think it is advertised as a Jasmine Incense but I got straight up jasmine tea rendered in a really lovely way.
AG Duel.
Osmanthe Yunnan is nice. Also, the really expensive Jo Malone tea series had some nice ones, but way too spendy.
I was disappointed with the JM Tea series. I liked them at the top notes and then they’d become meh as they dried down. I kinda wish I’d bought the milk one anyway, because I really liked it’s weird, milky vibe! Unfortunately, it was like they were on the market precisely two minutes–I’m usually a more deliberate purchaser than that. . .
I think we may be talking about 2 different series. I was talking about the Rare Tea one that was super-expensive. It didn’t have the Sweet Milk one.
Ah yes. Sorry. They did a “Tea Series” that was four scents that could be worn alone or layered onto each other. Earl Grey and Oolong, that sort of thing, and one of them was something like Milk or Milk and Lemon, maybe?
Surrender to Chance had samples of the JM rare teas. These were not milky ones. Some had “Needle” in the name. One of those tea fragrances had changed names at least once, but one of the names was “Midnight Black.” I think another was “Golden Needles.” And there was a green tea or jasmine green somewhere in there…
Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. (Also I like the White Tea.) Tommy Girl. Seconding Assam of India and thirding Thé pour un Eté. 🙂
Providence Osmanthus Oolong. Not much Osmanthus but a great tea note
PdN Fig Tea
Fragonard Jasmin Perle du Thé
Bulgari The Noir for great black tea. If you are very fond of jasmine green tea, I think Smith’s deodorant of that name and the associated body products smell really exactly like Jasmine Tea.
Annick Goutal L’Ile au thé is a lovely teafragrance, with osmanthus – like a softer version of L’Artisan The pour un eté.
For anyone who read my comment yesterday about Splendiris reminding me of Le Dix – I have them both on today and um, they’re pretty different. The contrast brought out the orange topnote in Splendiris and the vetiver/sandalwood in Le Dix.
Ewww-E what a GREAT game idea❣️
Soooo much to read above. This is like a hidden box of chocolates.
Time to go to class and learn
from the Masters above.
Thanks for doing this !!
Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.?
I know! And look at all of the comments! ?
Hasn’t anyone listed chocolate as a note yet? I won’t, because I don’t want to snell like it.
Gave a ton of samples to a nonperfumista friend who said she wanted a chocolate scent. She ended up with Montale Chocolate Greedy. Pretty sure it’s her signature these days.
CSP Amour d’Cacao
Olympic Orchids Seattle Chocolate and
Jo Malone Orange Bitter & Chocolate are great chocolate perfumes.
I like that Seattle Chocolate, if that’s the one with orange notes.
The one with orange notes is California Chocolate. That one is very yummy!
Akro Dark and Lutens Borneo.
+1 Akro Dark.
4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop is the best!
THIS!
Ginger
Ginger Essence by Origins! Refreshing
Poison Girl Unexpected
Twilly
? need to see if I smell it in PG Unexpected!
I’ve never actually smelled it. I was researching it after I found a good price on it, and was concidering blind buying. I passed after so many mentions of ginger, as I don’t care for ginger.
Fils de Dieu!!!?
Don’t make me say it, don’t make me say it
Guerlain Ginger Piccante
?
Ding ding ding!
Gingembre, by Roger & Gallet.
SL Five O’Clock au Gingembre (sp?). Cheap thrill category: Demeter Fresh Ginger and Gingerbread. The Fresh Ginger does have a nice fresh spicy scent, so it lives up to its name. 🙂
Vanilla is taken so I’ll go with BENZOIN. Haven’t read all the postings because I’m on my way to my adult life, but I’ve noticed benzoin is in a lot of scents I like.
Joop le bain
Shalimar Souffle Intense.
Grand Soir(which always reminds me of you)
Hope it’s a good night!
Thanks! I haven’t worn that in a while. It’s def. a cool weather scent for me…
I have both of these!
I’ll share my cumin with you if you share your benzoin with me! ?
Prada Candy, Kyse Benjoin Vanille
I love Prada Candy!
I do, too!
Mad et Len Petits Papiers
The first Prada Candy.
I have a soft spot for that one!
Oh yes, I wore it down to about 60% down and swapped it away as I had a newer bottle.
A lovely simple benzoin scent is Caron’s Bain de Caron (I “think” way back in the day it was called “Bain de Champagne”). It’s got a lot of benzoin and vanilla. I got nearly a quart of it in splash format for about 20 bucks & decanted it into pretty sprayers. I use it after showering on winter nights before bed – – so cozy & comforting…
Never heard of it. It sounds interesting! I will check for it.
That scent has an interesting history! I might try hunting down a sample, although I do not need a champagne size bottle of anything…well, I wouldn’t say no to a nice bottle of real champagne ?
I’ll be more than happy to send you each a decant of it. I already have your address, dear pl67 and Deva, email me your mailing address & I’ll pop yours in the mail (ellebe333 at the g of mail) Of course, everyone’s bemoaning the reformulations since Daltroff created it in 1923, but it’s what we have now, so I enjoy it for what it is!
Oh dear! No need to. I am ordering a bottle already. Thanks anyway! ❤
That’s very kind of you! I’m good right now, especially since I ordered two new bottles for the split meet and about 10 samples. That should keep me huffing for a while. Thanks so much for the offer ?
It does sound like an interesting one. 🙂
Lush “I’m Home” (this is a UK exclusive I believe). It’s cacao butter and benzoin and absolutely marvelous. Bought a bottle for a friend, convinced myself I didn’t need one too, and now bitterly regret it.
Not exclusive to the U.K. I got a solid perfume of I’m Home from an online Lush order in the U.S. Now Koyel is enjoying it. 😀
I think I saw I’m Home here in Montréal.
It wasn’t being sold here anymore last time I checked, but if they have brought it back I’ll be all over that! Once I have income again ?
I saw it last year, perhaps it’s run out… hopefully you will have the $$ next time around!
April Aromatics Calling All Angels (and probably some of the other ambery ones from that line).
Guaic wood
Le Labo Gaiac 10.
Micallef Gaiac
Thanks! Will check them out
Oh, and Shirley here again. I have tried Frederic Malle “En Passant”. I have heard many reviewers say it’s the best. I bought a whole bottle of it. Frankly, I can hardly smell a thing!
Have we done Lily of the Valley? Diorissimo, of course and….?
Le Muguet de Rosine
Cool, on my list it goes!
Hermes Muguet Porcelain
Really? Very good!
Houbigant Essence Rare
Jessica McClintock original and Alfred Sung Forever! Inexpensive but still great!
I second jessica, especially for a cheapie
Jessica McClintock, the one perfume I, or I should say my husband, has backups of for me.. lol.
I love lily of the valley! So many good ones. Hermes’ Muguet Porcelaine. VCA’s Muguet Blanc. Jo Malone’s Lily of the Valley and Ivy.
CdG Leaves: Lily is lily-of-the-valley, and a very pretty one.
Just looked this up. Looks good.
Chanel Paris-Biarritz. Gorgeous LotV going on in that. It’s just a shame it has such poor sillage & longevity.
Odalisque
DelRae Début.
Tauer Carillon pour un ange!
Philosophy Amazing Grace.
Guerlain Muguet
Robin, yelling out and reading perfume names is super fun??
Leather!
Lonesome Rider!
Is this the bbq note one?
BBQ or woodsmoke and chaps.
Then off the list it goes! Lol
Agreed.
Ohhhh, Diorling. And Hermes Doblis, except that I think it’s now gone from this earth.
I never even heard of this Hermes!
It’s very, very old, and just gorgeous. And sadly unfindable. But had to mention it – if you ever stumble across a ml or two, pounce!
Diorling, Kelly Caleche (I favor baby leather)
Diorling is going on the list!
Lancome Cuir de Lancome
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Parfume d’Empire Cuir Ottoman
Those are my favorites too plus Hermes Cuir d’Ange.
Yes, same here!
Love Cuir d’Ange
Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum
Bottega Veneta Eau Legere
Dior Cuir Cannage
Knize Ten
Second both of these.
Thirding Knize Ten. 🙂
Papillon Anubis.
Diorling, Bottega Veneta, Caron Tabac Blond, Cuir de Lancome, and Soivohle Journeyman.
Daim Blond and Cuir Beluga (swoon!).
Apparently!!!
The Different Company’s “I miss Violet” is a floral-leather (more like suede), with violet flower & leaf in the forefront, supported by a luscious osmanthus note. Really unique & addictive…
I made this my sotd. I love it.
Cuir Ottoman
Azuree! Because you get oak moss and florals and patchouli along with the leather.
Lonestar Memories, Rien and of course Cuir de Russie.
Leather is a hard one for me to pick a favorite, I love so many, but vintage Bel Ami is the leatheriest of my leather true loves, and it is breathtakingly wonderful.
I agree that this is fun, lillyjo. 😀
Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, Canoe Goods Skive
Cumin (so I can avoid it) ???
Haha … but Gucci EDP. It has cumin, but I bet you’d like it anyway. 😉
I don’t think I’ve ever smelled this ?
I should send you some to try!
Please save the good stuff for your self ? but thanks for offering.
Kenzo Elephant!
?
Shudder
Hehe I also shudder at the thought of L’Elephant now. I swapped for it in the adorable mini bottle and almost didn’t put it on skin after sniffing the bottle. But I did, and then I instantly washed it off. It was easy to swap away luckily.
No wonder I did not like this at all (wore it without looking at notes) and immediately set it aside.
Aaack! Noooo! ?
You remind me I haven’t worn Femme in AGES!
Heh, more for you. I got some in a swap ages ago and have not even tried it … and maybe never will.
Soivohle Harbinger has a LOAD of cumin in it.
Eeek!
hajusuuri – I’m with you, sister. Really hate cumin, both in food & frags…
Same here! If you see this, can you email me please? Thanks.
Just sent.
Cartier Declaration, FM Bigarade
I really like Declaration. I have a big bottle.
I think I’ve given away several Declaration manufacturer’s samples but have never even tried it. Perfect.
I think I’ve swapped to get FM Bigarade, tried it once and either gave it away as a freebie or swapped it away!
Never ever ever try Serge Noire.
I love Serge Noire and know that I am in the minority! Lol
Same here. On me, after about an hour, it becomes the most gorgeous cloud of incense.
