Aha, it's Tuesday at last. Also, National Rocky Road Day. (No churn? Here is a recipe for no churn Rocky Road.) What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: osmanthus day 2, in Diptyque Kimonanthe.
Reminder: on 6/5, wear a perfume with osmanthus, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Marimekko Unikko teapot ("Made with white stoneware, this three-piece teapot has a natural wood handle for pouring. Take off the lid to remove the stoneware tea strainer. All these details work together to brew the perfect cup of tea.") is $115 at Marimekko in the US. Mugs are $24-$28.
My osmanthus day 2: Good Girl Gone Bad by Kilian. A pretty, girly floral fruity scent, although I would prefer less fruity and more floral. Nothing actually is “gone bad” here. ?
I love that one..
Must find my sample!
Squeeeee! I have that one! Ok, twinsies!
That’s a good one. You smell great .
Not in osmanthus today. Looking for my Parfums d’Empire sample (which I must have emptied long ago) I did find a By Kilian sample: Forbidden Games. A stylish fruity floral. A tad sweet and not as good as some of Beckers best creations for BK. Enjoyable nevertheless.
Tea is a cold infusion from Palais des Thés: Jardin des Eaux. A tropical fruit salad, but nice when drunk cold.
House twins. I did not try Forbidden Games, but it sounds interesting.
If you like Becker’s style I think it’s worthwhile. Yep, we are house twins, I think I have a sample of GGGB somewhere. I think that is the Morillas one?
I liked their Liaisons Dangereuses, which is also fruity and also by Becker. So I might like FG too.
Yes, Morillas is listed as the creator of GGGB.
My absolute favourite is Sweet Redemption, but I also really like Beyond Love, Love, don’t be shy, Back to Black, A taste of heaven and Water Calligraphy.
We share a lot of favorites, especially Sweet Redemption.
Hey, I have just checked the notes of Forbidden Games on BK website, and osmanthus is listed (unlike on Fragrantica). So you are following the CP. 🙂
Oh thanks Glannys, that is such a relief 😉
?
I forgot to say my tea: a Chinese Hao Ya A from Upton.
A high end Keemun, right? I’m sure it’s good.
Another consequence of this pandemic is that a lot of tea is becoming more difficult to obtain. I always buy Darjeeling First Flushes around this time. I’m not even sure they have been harvested, but they don’t seem to be leaving India any time soon. I read about it in the Palais des Thés newsletter. Both PdT and MF have very small amounts of 2020 first flush Darjeeling.
And one of my favourite places to shop for Chinese tea is running out of stock fast and apparently has not been able to obtain new tea, even though China is mostly exporting again and their restrictions are not as severe as in India.
It is good, but I think I will not buy this grade again. My palate is really not so advanced as to make the extra expense worth it 🙂
And interesting, did not think of that.
It is wise to know one’s limitations 🙂 🙂
Although I’m sure your palate is fine.
Austenfan, you get an Enabler Pin for tea! I had been considering an order for the past day or so, and you mentioning possible shortages convinced me that sooner was better than later.
Morning from SoCal. Up before alarm. Coffee in hand, see what this day brings.
I think OJ Ta’if again today, it brought a lot of comfort yesterday while working.
Hair salons are open and I have an appointment for Saturday. My hair is a tiny pixie cut so it’s been interesting to say the least. I am not getting it colored and have not colored it at home so it’s almost all silver now. I’ll see how I like it and may just leave it that way going forward.
3.5 pounds gone on my get back to pre pandemic weight. I might not have done any baking or cooking, but ice cream has always been an ally.
Yay for silver! I stopped coloring a few years ago, and am intrigued by the progression. Envying your ability to get a haircut.
Yay for silver! I decided to stop coloring my hair in January and honestly it’s so freeing! Also, you smell great.
I have gotten more compliments on my hair than ever before since I let my natural grey grow out several years ago. I don’t mind the color at all, but the texture went from bouncy banana curls to wire like frizz. Finding products that help manage all that, while keeping brassy undertones at bay has been interesting! This has been the best shampoo I’ve found for keeping it silver without drying out it too much:
https://www.amazon.com/NYC-Tone-Blonde-Shampoo-Conditioner/dp/B07MHJN818/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=eva+nyc+purple+shampoo&qid=1591109500&sprefix=eva+nyc&sr=8-3
Thanks Deva for the link.
so far it’s soft and silky. My mom and dad both had beautiful silver hair early and I have been coloring mine for over 30 years now.
I am just done, I guess.
Thanks for that suggestion, I’ll try it. I have a similar problem with my gray hair having a wiry and frizzy tendency. On the plus side, I like having more curl than I used to.
Deva, I use Christophe Robin color haven’t tried the version for silver hair, but I use the a
I recommend Christophe Robin products. For example, I use the ash brown variant of this color correcting cream mask to blend gray into my very dark brown hair.
https://www.christopherobin.com/shade-variation-care-baby-blond/10556829.html
It’s labeled baby blonde, but they also recommend it for grays. There is a smaller “pocket” size, too.
I know it looks expensive, but you use only a small amount each time so it lasts. It’s good for the hair, and I haven’t noticed any scalp irritation even though I tend to leave it on for the maximum time.
Oh, I really like that it “deeply moisturizes.” Will see if I can find a trial/travel size and give it a whirl.
Beauty Habit has sometimes sent me samples of Christophe Robin products. You might call them and ask if they have a sample of the baby blonde.
“ice cream has always been an ally”♥️♥️♥️
Yep! sticks right to the tummy!
I seem to have decided to stop coloring by default. I’d decided in January to let one big chunk go grey, but now budget issues (we have big pay cuts starting July 1 — and yes, I know that I am still privileged, in the US, to be employed and have health insurance, but the situation leading to the pay cuts is only partly because of COVID-19; it is also partly because of questionable financial strategies by my employer over the past decade) have led me to decide to sit out both cut and color until August. I will probably go back to wearing it short, but I may let the gray remain. Only problem is that my skin is so blasted pale that I look unwell (realized that on a Zoom call this morning).
You might try a bit more makeup, especially blusher to liven up. You can use Photo Booth or a mirror app on your device to try out the look beforehand, too. ?
If you have a light source (in my case, my kitchen window that had a ruffle curtain on top, 2/3 of the top half of the window open and the bottom half covered by a flowery curtain, the light bathing my face made me look very pale. I fixed it asked yesterday by installing full window-length blackout curtains.
So funny!
I’m jealous — wish mine would finally go grey already. I’ve never coloured my hair, and I’ve been in that awful halfway stage of reddish-brown with ever-increasing strands of grey for about 5 years now. (Waaaay more grey on the last three months…) It’s just a bit of a mess, but I know I’ll eventually end up in a good place as my grandmother and great-grandmother have / had beautiful white hair. I’ve actually been thinking about dyeing it silver, but I feel like I’m going to wait until I’m at least 50 for that.
I use a temporary color correcting mask to blend in the gray. It has the advantage of washing out gradually so no roots. It looks more natural than a solid color and it’s way less expensive because I can do it at home.
Does it colour your grey to your (originally) natural colour? I’m good with temporary colour — used to use it to go a bit more red than I am naturally — but has always seemed a bit more iffy on grey. (I did promise myself when I was in my teens that I would never dye my hair to cover grey and I’ve stuck to that…but even back then I knew this stage would be weird. I also promised myself I would never wear sunglasses if it dulled colour I needed to see. I was a bit weird but I guess artistic and I’ve stuck with it.) Any suggestions on brands / products?
I am in the same hair place as you, although my hair was in a long pixie. I’m not going to dye it any more – I have a one inch stripe of silver roots and I’m just going to let the grey keep coming. I have decided to grow my hair out though, because it looked sooooo bad for a while without maintenance. (It’s wavy, so I looked like Luke Skywalker for two months. My husband kept offering to shave my head.).
You smell gorgeous!
I quit colouring my hair five years ago, best thing ever.
Finally hot in Minnesota and my new a/c doesn’t come until Thursday… luckily working from home is clothing optional? I am however wearing plenty of Dasein Summer.
clothing is always optional IMHO
made me smile! I live with someone who thinks clothes at home are (mostly) optional 😉
Tuesday Tea: French Press coffee
Tuesday Rant, please skip if you like
Yesterday there was so much looting outside my husbands office he had to turn around and go home after working for a few hours. Also his college intern started, and my husband rented out extra office space in his building for him and to keep the “social distance”. Now, who knows. And he is still paying for that office space, which as you know in the Big Apple, does not come cheap. I am all about protesting for peace, but violence obscures the righteousness of the message. End rant.
SOTD Quiproquo by Grès
Lovestosmellgood, I’m so sorry about this. I hope your hubby is safe, it’s pretty scary out there. ((hugs))
Thank you…
I wish perfume (and Prosecco) were the answer to everything…
Big hugs to you in these strange, scary and frustrating times.
I and do think perfume and Prosecco/champagne/sparkling wine are at least some of than answer… 😉
She-ra, I recently tried Sophia Coppola’s sparkling rose, it’s pretty refreshing!
I also tried it with just a few drops of orange blossom water, also tasty!
Putting Sophia Coppola wine on the list
If only, right??
I’m watching various Bay area businesses opening and offering cocktails to go….
I’ve got a pretty good list going. 😀
Sorry your husband is in this situation.
Thank you!
Oh, what a shame — very sorry for the stress & expense.
I mostly feel bad for his college intern..poor kid!
Hopefully things will change and my husband can break his lease somehow with that extra space..
Yikes, what an uncomfortable spot to be in. Do you feel safe where you’re living?
I finally started turning off the news after all the latest violence started. It makes me physically ill to see people behaving like this.
We are safe, thanks for asking!
Filtering the news is hard, and I guess, protests have ended social distancing…?
I hope things are safe for them again soon.
I am also imagining what life must be like for so many people who go through their whole lives never feeling safe.
??
Stay safe. I’m so glad I’m not in the office even if there was no COVID.
Truth
Wishing safety to everyone!
Idylle Love Blossom this morning because I want to smell pretty before the PB&J scent takes over.
Got my new iPhone yesterday! Woo hoo! I have not activated it yet. Will do so this evening. A part of me felt like it was indulgent but I have noticed my (still pristine) 6 has slowed down a lot. It also has very little memory. I’m just happy they came out with a phone that is the same size as my 6. Fits my hand. I just have to figure out how to reattach my zipper leash, which is one of the best things I own. (It still amazes me that phones are more expensive than iPads and big TVs…)
I think I am the last person on earth with an iPhone 5C…my family laughs at me. (Before that, I am sure I was the last person on earth with a slide out keyboard phone).
But I am perfectly happy with it!
My laptop, on the other hand, I am itching to upgrade.
A good friend got an 11 Pro recently – loves the camera but covets the size of the new SE.
I still USE a slide-out keyboard phone! I’m totally with you on wanting to upgrade my computer, though. Mine’s starting to show its age.
Jalapeno, I stand corrected, and congratulations! That is awesome.
Congratulations, LizzieB! Please report back on how you like it.
I have a 6s and was about to get an 8 (in order to postpone facial recognition), but I am going to put it off a while longer.
I have no interest in facial recognition. My husband doesn’t use it on his 11. We are staying old school with a code.
Good to know!
It seems I end up having to use the code most of the time anyway because it doesn’t recognize my finger very often anymore. I will probably follow your example.
Today is my two year wedding anniversary so I’m wearing Guerlain’s French Kiss which is what I wore on our first date. Got word from my manager that sometime next week we will start having some meetings about new protocols and then we’ll open for clients on the 18th, 3 months exactly after we shut down. Can’t wait to be giving massages again.
Very happy anniversary to you both, thegoddessrena!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary
Happy Anniversary! ?. You smell great!
Enjoy your celebration.
Congratulations! And yay for being able to start working soon!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! ???
Happy Anniversary!
Aww, I can’t believe it’s 2 years already! Happy anniversary to you both. And good luck with re-entry!
Happy anniversary! I love French Kiss.
I have very few fragrances with osmanthus, and none where it is the primary focus, so I am skipping this week’s CP. Instead, having sorted my decants by house, I am dipping into the decant bag that holds my one off fragrances, where I only have one decant of that house. I am starting with Lolita Lempicka Minuit Noir. This is quite a typical scent for this house, with loads of licorice. I dislike licorice as a perfumery note, as well as the taste, so I am probably going to give this away.
Skip away! Sorry you don’t like your pick, though.
SOTD is Good Girl Gone Bad by Killian. Fruity floral (including osmanthus) over an animalic base.
This is quite possibly the biggest white floral I own. I had EL’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, and loved it, but gifted it away it was too BIG for me.
Coffee Consumed. Running shoes on, I-pod charged, new play list (disco and 80’s hits). I’m out the door, TTFN!
Meep!! Meep!! 😉
Yay, twin! Although I did not notice anything animalic in this scent.
I think it’s my skin, it’ll do that with floral scents.
I absolutely hate gardenia in any amount 99.99 percent of the time, however, I nearly purchased Tuberose Gardenia..it’s a lovely scent. EL has a few really good ones.
They had a soap to go with the EL-PCTG, it was amazingly fragrant, the entire bathroom and bedroom smelled of it.
Smelling great and wish I was listening to your playlist right now!
We are house twins!
Go, SmokeyToes, Go!
I am interested in your playlist!
Enjoy your walk!
My new jogging shoes arrive today 🙂
Sweet! The play list includes:
1970’s – Donna Summer, Village People, Sex Pistols, Chic, Sister Sledge, KC and The Sunshine Band, Silver Convention, Van McCoy, Iggy & The Stooges, Dr Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament, Barry White, Dazz Band.
1980’s – Joy Division, INXS, U2, Heaven 17, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Sisters of Mercy, Altered Images, Killing Joke, Grace Jones, Animotion, Rick James, Luther Vandross.
Dang, you have good taste in music!
Thanks! 😀
And that’s not the classical or jazz collections that I listen to… 🙂
I’ll put up a play list sometime…
I’ll be right over ?
That Rocky Road recipe looks easy, delicious and dangerous.
The tea set is charming.
I looked through the Fragrantica osmanthus list and I’ve got nothing, although Hove Tea Olive has been on my casual wishlist for ages and I finished a small bottle of Nicolai Fig Tea years ago. Didn’t replace the Fig Tea because there are so many other things to sniff.
The Hove is a classic. I found it a tad sweet, but would love to have it in body products…soap, something?
Osmanthe Yunnan, which is surely pretty enough to perk up a Tuesday. Lots of heavy things going on and I’m hoping to keep it a bit lighter today overall.
I’m always so surprised by what my husband comments on. He usually comments on more spicy orientals or what I consider “winter” kinds of things. So imagine my surprise when I kissed him goodbye this morning and he said, “wow you smell great, which one is that?” So even the hubs approves of this pretty little thing. 🙂 Of course, I had pulled a hajusuuri and sprayed about 10 good sprays right as I walked out the door haha.
? 10 sprays. with those Hermessences there is no other way!
Yep!
That’s hajusuuri + 2 ?
Gotta go with that extra 2 with these Hermessences lol!
You smell fabulous. I love Osmanthe Yunnan.
I’m in ELDO Fils de Dieu today because I love it. A friend is coming over today with her kids to visit. There’s a lot of room for the kids to run outside and we can easily visit while socially distancing on the porch. Poor T-Tex will be overjoyed because this social distancing thing has been much harder on her than me.
I hope you have a great time with your friend and her children! And you smell wonderful.
T-Rex had a blast with the kiddos. ???
I’m glad T-Rex had a good time. 🙂 She seems like quite a sociable dog, from what you say. T-Rex wasn’t too sure about curious young horses coming close to the van in one funny video you took, but she seems to enjoy interacting with people. 🙂
And I’m glad you got in a visit with your friend. 🙂
Mom lived in Florida for a year when she was in high school, and said she wouldn’t choose to live there in the summer, but that she wouldn’t mind living in south Florida through the winter months.
During our winter visits there every other year or two this past decade, I appreciated the warm weather in February and March, and being able to see green and growing plants outside at that time. Also I enjoyed being able to go visit places where there were colorful butterflies and birds that thrive in a semi-tropical climate, and being able to see marine animals live (at a safe distance) in places that mixed conservation and education in with the exhibitions.
Florida is great 3 months out of the year. Totally agree, and there are some lovely spots that have dodged development where you get a taste of “old Florida.” I have a friend who was born (1949) and raised on a barrier island off St Pete. He describes flocks of birds that darkened the sky and has some great stories about being a kid in old Florida. It was literally a jungle, no electricity, and he took a boat to school because there were no bridges. Now it’s mostly shopping malls, McMansions, and huge condo complexes. He said every year he feels more lost while living on the island where he was born.
Mom was born in Manhattan in 1945, and lived there as a young girl. Her family lived in Pompano Beach in Florida during that high school year of hers that I mentioned above. I’m pretty sure they had electricity, because I really can’t picture Mom or Nana living somewhere that didn’t have electricity.
You smell lovely Deva! I hope you are enjoying your day and your company.
I just heard on NPR that RVs are in such demand nowadays (and production lagging behind for obvious reasons) that it’s very difficult to find one to buy or rent at the moment. It appears people are seeing them as a safer alternative to flying/renting hotel rooms.
It looks like our national parks will be flooded this summer.
The parks are flooded every summer, but there is limited space for RV camping. You may see more rentals on the road, but generally they’re not staying in the parks. Unless they made reservations months ago.
I’m not sure many are buying now. So many have lost their income, I can’t see people forking out the money right now. Especially new RV’s which are ridiculously overpriced.
Before Covid, I think it was gaining popularity due to the fact that so many people can work remotely these days. During the shut down, many full timers had no where to go because most of the campgrounds were closed. It was a real problem for a lot of full timers, especially those that are not set up to boondock.
Enjoy the visit!
I did, thanks. But after the kids, I’m ready for a cocktail! ?
Hope you are enjoying a potent potable now!
You betcha! ?
I’ll wear my OJ Osmanthus on Friday, but today is Hermes Ambre de Merveilles for comfort during a difficult day at work (and yoga clothes!, since I currently work from home).
Yoga clothes: Regina comment up above is clothing optional 😉
yay for Merveilles! you smell beautiful.
You smell divine. I hope the day wasn’t too difficult.
Day off today, yay! (I have been working for all but two weeks.) Just finished my workout, so no scent yet. Am rather proud of myself for working out again; it sort of got pushed to the side for a long while. have managed a pretty regular schedule for the last month and a half, and am determined to stick with it. Am going to randomly select something from the Merveilles shelf once I clean up.
Am trying to remember if I have any osmanthus scents for Friday. I know I had and loved a sample of the Ormonde Jayne, but pretty sure I used it up…
Well I am proud of you too, since I am doing such a crappy job! All my free time is painting at the moment.
The package to Luckyscent has been assembled and by the front door for the mailman to pick up. When I do have a package to return, I love the post office’s free pick up. Woke up in vintage no 5. I think that Hedonist Cassis might be in order. I think Hedonist Cassis is much better than Hedonist Iris.
Narciso Rodriguez EDT as a couple NSTers mentioned it yesterday and I do smell the osmanthus.
that bottle, the scent, it’s perfumed perfection!
You smell wonderful! 🙂
Well, I fully intended on making this a strictly osmanthus week, but my hand landed on the rapidly evaporating decant of Ambre Sultan, and the hand won. After a 2.65 mile walk, I need a shower, but the drydown is so great! I’ll just have to wait.
TOTM: Mighty Leaf Vanilla Bean and some unidentifiable oolong from The Path of Tea, a wonderful tea shop down in town.
Can’t argue with the hand!
We mentioned Paris-Deauville so many times yesterday that it was haunting me, so today’s SOTD it is!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
Is it that the one with vanilla? I get them all confused
I think Deauville is the one with the basil note.
Deaville is citrus + basil
I’m in Ta’If and think I must be largely anosmic to its charms. I get loads of pink pepper, and what I pick up as date (after looking up the notes–power of suggestion!) but only a hint of nondescript rose. So many love this one. I think my nose missed the memo.
I love Ta’if, but I think I sometimes have trouble smelling it too, then it will “reappear”.
I think I’m going to save my Osmanthe Yunnan for Friday. Today, I’m going with Jacomo Art Collection No. 08, which is a favorite of mine, and recently acquired in the swapmeet (thanks, Nancyleandros!). I smell like chai tea, and it is a great thing.
It sounds appealing!
Glad you’re enjoying it, and thank you for the swap! ?
Perris Monte Carlo Absolue d’Osmanthe today. This is a big, bright, fruity plum osmanthus with musky undertones. Good stuff.
That one is lovely!
Partial credit for Parfums de Nicolai Fig Tea.
After a bit of reading and a bit of rummaging about my testers I managed to find 2 perfumes with an Osmanthus note, and Fig Tea is one of them.
I like it, it’s very chic and decent, will happily spray through the tester, but no FB love.
Oh, I think that’s full credit! (And I like that one.)
I think I only have a couple osmanthus scents, saving them for later in the week. Today I’m wearing Assam of India.
Deva, thanks for your Bertie thoughts. I’m spoiling him silly.
Good for you! I hope he gets everything he wants. It’s a given he already has all your love. ?❣️
Good morning all. I”m wearing 1000 by Patou and feeling very classy and smart. I only have the new version (2000’s) but still feel it has a vintage aura to it. And it’s definitely osmanthus-forward. I just have it in EdT and splashed it on all over and it’s a cheerful yet, as I said, classy fragrance. Today there will be a big march in downtown Houston honouring and remembering George Floyd, with our police chief and mayor leading it and marching with his family members. I am glad for their leadership on this, but at the same time, do have worries about how it will all go. So much has happened lately that is concerning. And it’s so hot and humid here, which can always intensify the emotions. Meanwhile I will be taking one of my cats to the vet for a persistent and very unpleasant problem that I won’t describe here. I’m scared about what could be wrong with her and also suspect I’m going to be in for another $1000-plus vet bill (the last one being higher than that when Dusty had exams and tests for what turned out to be cancer). It’s expensive being a cat parent.
Wishing the best to your cat! Being a pet parent is indeed very costly. Glad we can be there for them, though.
Hope it’s not too bad
Hoping for a good outcome for your cat.
Wishing the best for kitty and wallet alike. I’d love to adopt another dog, but just can’t afford it. Plus, no room.
Best of luck with the tests — wishing all the best for your kitty!
Sending best wishes for your kitty and for testing costs to be somewhat reasonable! Cats are a huge pain to diagnose. Our last emergency vet bill was $1000+ and came up with nada, but at least she was better in two day’s time.
Best wishes for peace in Houston and a non-expensive diagnosis.
Yikes. I hope it’s nothing serious.
Fingers crossed for both your vet visit, and a peaceful march.
I hope it went ok at the vet today! Yes, it is expensive, and you have many more kitty kids than I do…
Vet bills are so expensive ? But your cats are sooo darn cute
In the last drops of my decant of Atelier Cologne Mistral Patchouli. I enjoyed it for the time it lasted, but it never made it to my full bottle list. Money saved!
Busy working day, but ready to take a walk ouside. It is a very nice day despite being cloudy.
Peace and health to everyone! ?
You smell wonderful, MP was my gateway to patchouli love.
Thank you, Tiffanie! ?. MP is a very easy to wear patchouli. Nice and simple!
Good afternoon!
Scent for the moment: The Different Company Osmanthus, the one I was on such a quest for last year. I have a good amount now. 🙂
Also the remains of the O.P.I. “avojuice” lotions I used last night, the jasmine one and the mango one.
I’ll be trying to wash off the floral and fruity smells before I go outside to plant more of my garden plants. The bees and wasps have been zooming too close every so often even when I don’t have perfume on.
I put labels by the plants I planted yesterday, but haven’t planted any more today. It’s been looking like it might rain any time for a lot of the day today.
Robin and irisjasmine would probably agree with me about how in this part of Pennsylvania, we have winter, three days or so of spring, and then summer.
I went to the local Giant grocery store to pick up some things I needed. Now I’m home and ready for my nap…(there must be a yawning face emoticon — pretend I inserted it here)
I may take a break from TV news again, or at least cut down on my watching. Others here were saying they were in the world of books instead of TV watching. I have plenty to read that’s light in tone, and some that’s more serious in a scholarly sort of way. That might be a good change.
Take care of yourselves, folks.
I was rather surprised at how cloudy it was this morning, given how gorgeous yesterday was. Temps were still nice, though.
We’re in for a few scorchers. The AC will be back on tomorrow.
I had a few choice words for the 3-day forecast.
Yes, I had opinions about the coming heat wave. That’s why I decided I really wanted to get errands done today, and then I’ll hopefully be able to relax and quietly read books tomorrow.
Today I am having my annual review, via video, with my new boss. I am therefore not taking any chances and am braced by my Chanel No.19.
Annual reviews are difficult. I remember when I worked at Sears Hardware we had to do them. An annual review for a retail job is just out and out ridiculous. Just for a 15 cent raise no less.
I hope that your annual review went well today!
Hope the Chanel 19 carried you through!
SLFive O’Clock au Gingembre, a recent rediscovery after a long hiatus. Perfect for a cool spring day.
Envying your “cool spring day.” Plus, you smell great.
Fico d’ India today, because I just have one osmanthus scent.
I finally rode my ebike to work for the first time. It was a lovely ride through the fields and smaller villages. But it’s really a long commute, 22km. For the way home I put my bike into the Train and biked the last 6km back home. But I will do this again soon, it was nice.
Lovely! I used to bike to work at one point and I loved everything about it except afternoon thunder and lightning storms which used to happen with regularity in Florida. When you feel the sizzle before you hear the crack, it’s a bit unnerving ? Be safe- I think it’s great you can hop on the train if the weather turns or if you’re just not feeling like biking back home.
Even though it’s Tuesday and I knew to expect teapots and such, I did not recognize them in the daily photo until I read ringthing’s comment. I just saw a bunch of poppies ?
SOTD is Boutonnière no. 7.
The only osmanthus scent I have will be reserved for Friday.
And speaking of osmanthus scents, I have been toying with the idea of ordering a bottle of Rahele from Luckyscent. This one does not appear to come in travel sized bottles. Only the 60 mL one.
Would anyone be interested were I to offer a portion of it up at the splitmeet?
Rahele is lovely, I will wear that as well at some point this week.
I have already got a bottle, so I can’t help you out. Besides there is an ocean between us.
Ha ha, yes there is…
Me! I drained my decant about a week ago. I will happily take 5 or 10 mls. If you want to do it sooner, email me the cost, etc. ann dottie eisenberg @ comcast dottie net
I am interested in a split of Rahele!
SOTD = April Aromatics Calling All Angels
… because Eldora mentioned it yesterday and we really need to.
From today through June 30th, I will not check nor post on my hajusuuri IG account and also switched it to Private.
On to the Zoom do’s and don’ts!
1. DO check how you look under different lighting conditions. I’m so happy I got the blackout curtains for my kitchen window. The grommet style makes it very easy to slide open and shut and anywhere in between.
2. DO place yourself on mute, especially if you’re in a large meeting and if you are either not expecting or expected to speak or your turn to speak is later during the meeting
3. Whatever background you choose, be conscious of your posture and where your arms and hands go – too often, arms and hands disappear into the ether or, worse, it looks like you only have half a head ?
4. DON’T – pick your nose (!), cross your arms if they can be seen (makes you look defensive), cradle your cocked head with your hand and / or get too close to the camera (we do not need to see your nose hairs)
5. DON’T – wear clothes that make you blend in with your surroundings or so loud I need to wear my ?
yes to Calling All Angels, I should try that new-to-me sample of Carillon pour un Ange recently sent to me by a swap friend.
I have weekly staff meeting zoom calls, and it’s funny how fast people forget they can be seen! I want to shout “stop touching your face” over and over again, but of course my microphone is muted.
Oh yes, the face touchers. I forgot about the body scratcher, complete with a brief view of surface where the sun don’t shine.
I think this is the same phenomenon that happens to people who pick their nose while driving. ?
LOL, no one is watching, quick, do it. As long as you don’t have your window open if he’s a flicker.
I will miss you on IG! I’m a passive IGer but check it everyday
I’ll be back. I just cannot stand the hypocrisy going on. I already said what I wanted to say in my story.
OMG, did someone actually pick their nose during one of your Zoom calls?
Do I really have to answer your question? I can tell you he did not eat it. You asked ?.
???!
SotD = L’Instant
Love, love, love this one from Guerlain. Apparently honey in perfume is my catnip. Yesterday and today make a good case for that theory, testing is ongoing, further updates as events warrant.
In other silly news, yesterday I cut my hair. Went from below shoulders gypsy cut to jawline bob, blunt bangs, slightly higher at the nape of the neck. And of course this morning my stylist contacted me to say he will be taking appointments in a couple weeks, smh.
I would like some coloring, Mr. Adam does the nicest babylights that blend away my grays. I wish my hair would turn silver or white, but alas that is unlikely. My mother still has auburn hair, my father is still strawberry blond, both with not that much gray.
My city went into curfew last night at 4 pm. It was eerily quiet, no cars on the road, no neighbors out walking their dogs. Consumed too much news last night. Today I’ve got a stress pimple on my forehead. I’m too old for this. Sheesh.
Your hair sounds great! I hope everything settles down in your city soon.
thank you, sistine, pretty calm this evening. 🙂
You smell great
thank YOU, my perfumed pal 😀
Argh, HATE stress pimples! And yes, I am too old to be getting zits, too. Yet I still do. Grump.
yah, it’s a club I’d like to quit 😉
We’re stylist twins except I cLl mine a hairdresser?. Anyway, I got a text saying the place will be open on June 22 by appointment only. I texted back and said I ‘ll wait ot out for a few more months.
Ok, I’m not even going to correct the fat finger typos because I am sure you can adjust them mentally.
yup! I got it. 😀
I wish I had waited a couple more days before cutting my hair, but honestly, I’m happy with my haircut, and I’m feeling like you, really not sure I would go in for services for a few more months anyway.
Participating in Floris Chypress my only contemporary Floris. It’s really enjoyable with a detectable osmanthus, but if it is indeed a chypre, it’s a thoroughly modern one, I’ve also learned to recognize the Floris musk which is really pleasant.
Glad to hear that your back is feeling better today! ?
Breath of God today, because it is gray and weird outside today, and because the only Osmanthus I have, AFAIK, is Ormonde Jayne. I’ll get to that later in the week. I should check the Basenotes data and see if there is a surprise osmanthus fragrance lurking in my stash.
Just finished my second double espresso of the day, and am heading back to work (up the stairs).
I wore that this morning!
I’m in Vanille Galante — needing something gentle and friendly and uplifting that plays well with hot weather.
Vanille Galante is so lovely!
I’ve been watching the news from the US, and it’s very sad. Protesting is an important right, smashing and looting is a whole different thing. I’m hoping that all of you in the places affected are safe.
I’m going into the office today. That will be increasingly less newsworthy, I hope. Things are looking good here, and restrictions are continuing to ease. I’ll scent my day with 31 Rue Cambon.
SOTD = Feu d’Issey. I have some lovely silver First Nations earrings that I put on this morning that are meant to represent fire, and my eye fell on that bottle, so here we are.
I’m honestly not sure I have anything with osmanthus. It’s not a note I’ve explored much…probably should. Seeing after a quick search that it’s one of the notes in Narciso Rodriguez For Her…think I may have a sample somewhere, so maybe that’ll be a start later this week?
Rainy, cold day here. We’re among the hordes of people trying to camp this summer, and little Ockeghem needs new hiking boots and I have to buy gas for my backpacking stove (which can’t be shipped). Our local MEC (Canadian version of REI) opened recently for 5 hours a day, so we headed down yesterday, only to stand in line for 30 minutes and then be told we wouldn’t get into the store before it closed 45 minutes from then. Today I thought I’d be smart and go on a mid-day break — who’d want to stand in the rain before they opened? Ha. I went down at 11:20 and the line was wrapped halfway around the store — which takes up a full city block. At this point, buying a gas canister and boots may be an all-day activity.
Wow, is this a sign that everybody is planning to camp this year?
I think probably not, just here in BC where if you live here you’ve self-selected into being outdoorsy (because if you’re career-oriented, you don’t live here). To be fair, few of my co-workers seem to have much backpacking experience, but most seem to have car camping experience. We don’t have much choice this summer but to camp.
Yeah, wondering if the same is true of us — not much choice — and we are not really campers.
I am desperate to go camping this summer and get the he** out of this pestilential urban jungle.
I love that tea set! I love Marimekko, such fun patterns.
I’m in Vanille Insensee and about to cut out of work early on this sunny 88 degree summer afternoon.?
mmmmm, Vanille Insensee, so beautiful the way that one wafts around, like it’s got a life of its own.
Marimekko!!!! Nice teapot choice Robin!
In Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée. Trying to zen a bit while still staying engaged with the world.
mmmmm, more Vanille Insensee, waft this way, please!
I’ve thought about Vanille Insensee lately, but I haven’t dug out my sample of it yet.
🙂
The teapot pattern is the same as my duvet cover, although I have the blue version.
Breath of God this morning, Dzongkha this afternoon. I need all the incense and tranquility I can muster.
It’s such a great pattern!
I wonder why nobody seems to make a Rocky Road chocolate bar, for those times when ice cream isn’t as appealing.
A bit of good news! My brother has a new job. He started his first shift last night. I haven’t heard anything else from him, but his job is usually quite physical and busy.
SOTD = back in Fig Black Tea perfume oil from Soivohle.
Congrats to your brother! That was so quick, but more likely he’s super talented at his chosen profession. Cheers to him! ?
He is quite good at what he does. He also left on good terms from a couple of places he worked at previously, so those guys said if he ever wanted to come back, they would do their best to get him on.
Congratulations to your brother!
Thanks lillyjo!
Congratulation to your brother! I am trying not to look at the recipe since it was deemed “easy” which means it has my name on it ?
Thanks! I did check out the recipe, and decided that grabbing a pint of Haagen Dazs was even easier. ? Besides, perfumelover67 has given me an ice cream lemming!
??
That must be a huge relief all around! Congrats to him!
Thanks Elisa P!
I checked out that recipe, big mistake; it looks great! I do happen to have an ice cream maker, and it’s kind of fun. I messed up the first batch but I know what I did wrong. Might have to try this one out!
And congratulations to your brother; that is very good news!
Thanks Gail! If you do try the recipe, let us know how it comes out.
Congratulations to your brother!
Thanks perfumelover67!
Congratulations on your brother’s new job!
Another triple digit day weather wise. Likely gunna keep commando today.
Having frustration with some modern communications lol..I kinda miss the days of rotary phones and pay phones. Texting, specifically, seems a bit dodgey and impersonal and often times misunderstood. Before cell phones, internet..it seemed communication was more precious on a certain level. Call me old fashioned. People have become much more disposable with modern technology it seems. The old days of stationary and snail mail..sigh.
You get a text from a love interest
for example, it’s just so so…but a handwritten letter…ahhhhh. And even better, when the stationary has been scented with a perfume..ahhhh. lol.
I am old fashioned too…I still prefer a phone call to a text.
Just spritzed on some Pacific Lime from the swapmeet. I smell refreshing.
Has anyone tried Kate Walsh Boyfriend? The backstory is interesting.
I have been thinking alot these past few days about how I can be an ally. I feel so helpless in the face of the vicious depth of our country’s systemic racism.
I have two bottles of the original Kate Walsh Boyfriend. I think it’s too much for warm weather, but it’s a gorgeous vanilla/plum/incense perfume. It deserves a much better name, IMO!
Their website has free samples plus shipping – might try it
I ended up wearing BBW Peach body butter today. It was scented enough to get me through the day and I’d forgotten how thick and luxurious it is.
After I closed up shop for the day I am now enjoying 4160 Tuesdays Eat More Flowers courtesy of a lovely NST’er!
How is the 4160 getting along with the BBW?
They are playing nicely. I had a dab of 4160 on each wrist while the body butter mostly faded into the background.
Yay! Glad you are enjoying it.
I scraped out a bit of Lush Pansy solid oerfume and mixed it with Shikai Yuzu lotion as my SOTD. Pansy was a blind buy based on reviews, and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I like the top notes which are green, grassy/herby, and a touch fruity (blackberry). The drydown is warm, sweetish and oakmossy and a tad powdery. I needed a bit more tartness to balance that out.
This is supposed to smell like The Olive Branch shower gel, and your description more or less fits. ? Have you tried the shower gel, does it smell the same to you?
In a spritz of Kenzo Jungle from the swapmeet. It reminds me alot of Theorema – which is a good thing!
So many books I want to read that speak to our current circumstances and ways out of it, but my attention bandwidth cant handle long nonfiction right now. Instead I have been learning from the amazing essayists/public intellectuals on racism and injustice and violence over at The Atlantic.
