Happy Almost-Friday! (And in case you missed it, the Haiku challenge is coming up on Saturday, and we'll try a Swapmeet the following week, on May 16). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile Eau de Toilette, because SheriG wore it yesterday.
Reminder: 5/8 is Iris Day, so we'll repeat our project from 2016... wear an iris fragrance, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Maison Martin Margiela Lipstick On
Iris and vanilla, a sweet lipstick scent.
Sample thunk, and now I need to decide whether I need a decant of this.
Jealous of your thunk
I LOVE Lipstick On! So tempted to buy a FB at some point, but now I’m hearing that Replica Bubble Bath is even better…..I need to sample that one now! š
Lipstick On is great..perhaps one day, a spilt should be in order.
Hopefully nothing gets spilt in the course of the split. š
I really like this one, too, but I donāt need that huge bottle!
In the glorious spring floral of Vine Street by Soivohle
Finishing my sample of DSH Perfumes Scent of Hope. Such a beautiful orris butter and peach scent.
It looks like is going to be a nice day today. Sunny and warmer than yestetday. Planning to get some groceries later. In the meantime coffee and more coffee ā to face 2 meetings now in the morning. Thanks God is almost Friday!
Good luck with the meetings!
Thank you, Robin!
Wow, that one sounds beautiful! Hang in there, almost Friday. Today is my Friday, but I had copious amounts of coffee to get me started at 5 AM.
It is a very beautiful scent. It is Dawn’s take on Iris Gris, which I never smelled. Wished I had!
Enjoy your “Friday”. Counting the hours for mine to arrive! ?
What a great name for a scent! It sounds gorgeous.
Nice name indeed!
Glad itās going to be sunny!?
It is! ???
It is/was a beautiful day out, which I spent in a windowless room ? But I’m outside now enjoying what’s left of it!
I could use a Scent of Hope right about now, but, yes! It’s almost Friday! Hang in there!
I just came back from a walk and it is still nice outside. Glad you were able to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. How is the cat colony doing? I think about them pretty often.
So good to see that sun today!
Very uplifting! ?
No perfume yet. I canāt decide. Itās sunny so maybe I will reach for Ginger Essence.
Have a nice day everyone!
Sunny here too, but looks like the weekend will be yuck.
Please no! I can’t bear a yuck weekend.
I canāt bear one either. Enough already
i love ginger! š hope you had a lovely day.
I’m wearing Iris CendrĆ© which I can barely detect through my mask. The first hour (without mask) was very nice.
You smell good.
You smell great austenfan! And I guess that means the mask is working, which is good.
someone somewhere must have a list of perfumes that smell good through a face mask. š
I was able to detect Hiris through my mask, but sometimes I think that I’m better able to detect perfumes that I know intimately (as William Elliott says to Ann Elliott in the 1995 film). I guess my mind fills in the olfactory gaps.
I’ve only got a tiny bit IC left and will wear that on a day where I won’t have to wear a mask.
Iris CendrĆ©, such a pretty name. It makes me think of Cendrillon, one of my favorite stories, and a nice opera too. š
But is it a smoky iris I’m off to look up the notes (of the perfume) and maybe a few reviews . . .
It’s dry, woody and slightly smoky. Angela has a good review on this site.
SOTD No 19 Poudre
I love but it has zero lasting power on me.
Later I may spray Heure Exquise
French press coffee with cream.
An Italian outfit today..since I have my class this evening.
You smell wonderful! I loved No. 19 EP until I discovered the same, no staying power whatsoever and I have scent-glue skin… I really loved it but will be using my decant up and won’t purchase a FB.
YUM on the coffee with cream!
Dearest ST-
I had peanut butter on toast again..this is becoming my breakfast staple.
Have you tried Heure Exquise?
Hello Lovestosmellgood!
Isn’t it grand? Have you tried fried PB & J? It’s just like a grilled cheese, on both sides but PB on the inside. Once it’s fried, apply the jam (blackberry is a favorite) on the top with a pinch of salt. Another genius dad PB hack.
I have tried Heure Exquies, and I adore it. One of my favorite iris scents of all time.
I meant to say *fry on both sides with BUTTER*
š
No calories here!
Another ‘scent twin’ perfume! š
Iāve not tried the Poudre yet but Chanel 19 is gorgeous.
I had difficulty with the Poudre until I viewed it as a standalone fragrance.
I wish it lasted longer!
Smelling great today.
Thank you!
SOTD: L’Homme de Coeur (Divine). Surprised I could find my decant.
Lovely. I wish I had a small bottle.
I love l’Homme de CÅur, it’s probably Divine’s most original scent.
Hi all!
Had a hard time with choosing a Day 4 iris perfume. I was thinking about Paprika Brasil (maybe one of my favorite underrated perfumes) but ended up with Mitsouko. Maybe not the most obvious iris but it’s in there and makes it perfectly luscious. Wearing the modern EdP and it smells very very good.
I know I’m such a cliche but I’m about to shape my third loaf of sourdough. It already smells so good! I dried out some of my excess starter and thinking I might ship it to my friends in Dallas.
Have a great day all! Stay safe.
Yes!!! Paprika Brasil!!!!
Wear it tomorrow. And I agree….a highly underrated iris.
I really love it, especially that copper flash of the pepper top notes. I wish those would have had a trend like pink pepper did.
??
Mitsouko is beautiful!
Totally agree.
The bread-making craze is hilarious. My entire family is making bread! I’m envious but can’t have a homemade loaf of anything in my apt. — too tempting to overindulge!
I’m in the same boat but I’m only making myself one a week. It is very very satisfying though.
IKR!
I’ve also gone sourdough crazy, clichĆ© as it is, and I refuse to feel silly about it.
I have no work and it helps fill my time productively, plus makes having carbs around the house so much cheaper than buying pre-bought boules, raisin bread, focaccia, pizza, waffles, all the things. Congratulations on bread #3!
The funny thing is I remember making sourdough in elementary school with my mom. She must have been doing most of the work as I don’t remember having nearly as many trials and tribulations getting the starter up to snuff. I am greatly enjoying it. When flour becomes for available I’m excited to try some new things.
I actually talked myself out of making foccacia yesterday. I couldn’t justify using that much oil in a recipe just for me!!
What did you do to tweak it? Mine isn’t doing much but just sitting there – doesn’t smell or look “yeasty”.
The guy I’ve been following (Andrew Janjigian, he’s a bread master!) says keep feeding regularly even if you don’t notice anything happening. This is all his advice, but don’t completely seal the lid, and feeding it in a 1:1:1 ratio (water:flour:starter). And this helped me: you don’t necessarily have to feed it after 12 hours. He said it’s better to feed an overproofed starter than an underproofed starter.
Oh and keep a back-up! Just in case of mold or breakage, keeping the back-up in the fridge is great help. I accidentally baked mine early on as it was still in the over when I preheated if.
Focaccia calls for an amazing amount of oil! I have a recipe somewhere for 1-2 servings, but havenāt tried it yet.
Yes! My good friend was shocked when I told him it basically fries on the bottom.
Let me know if you do try that recipe. š
Yay coumarin! I am doing the same but will bake my leftover instead in some fashion. It really is fun to play with the dough.
Have fun!
I am in Equistrius by PdE today. I love the opening of this one.
I have made many a discard pancake, usually with a flick of salt and a lash of honey.
I don’t remember trying that one. I actually really want too try all the PdE. I hear such wonderful things.
I’ve been engaging in the bread-making too…. It’s been great fun, but it means I’ve had to exercise way more than usual.
Hahaha I’ve been skipping the workouts. My joints have gotten so painful but I can’t take my treatment for them during a pandemic. I’m allowing myself to eat my anxiety in the meantime. ?
Oof, I’m sorry š I am well acquainted with eating my anxiety!
Ah, it’s okay. Luckily I can skip my treatment until this is over, unlike some more serious conditions.
I bring my baked loaves to my zoom meetings to show off….
Aw so cute! I can’t wait to start sharing my breads.
I think your bread making skills are awesome! Sourdough starter can be a bit finicky, and it seems like you have it down pat. Nothing better than the smell of baking break! ?
Thank you! One of the big things I was looking forward to when moving last October was making my own bread in a lovely kitchen. The situation sucks but the bread is a nice slight respite.
An easy and simple bread that doesn’t require yeast is Socca bread, I mentioned it a few days ago. Equal parts garbanzo bean flour and water, a touch of olive oil and a pinch of salt; let sit for 30 minutes then bake in a well-oiled cast-iron skillet that’s been preheating in a 450 degree oven. Bake for 8-10 minutes. I like to finish it off the last minute or two with the broiler setting.
It does well for a pizza crust or as a dessert bread with honey and feta drizzled on top, put back under the broiler for a moment or two to melt the feta and caramelize the honey.
The latter is a pretty healthy dessert – it has protein and a healthy dose of fiber.
Iāve been crazy busy for the last few days and didn’t have a chance to post. On Tuesday I wore Hiris, yesterday I wore Dzongkha, and today Iām wearing Monsoon by Dame Perfumery. Three different takes on/ incorporating iris, but all fabulous.
Iām so glad weāre having a beautiful spring. The gorgeous weather really is making me feel happy.
You’ve been smelling great. š
So jealous. We are expecting snow tomorrow. Having a crappy spring.
wait. please no. I’m in SE pa, but I think you are in PA too. I want to cry.
No different state but close enough. It’s been unseasonably cold.??
Oh Dzongkha is an absolute favorite. I’m on my third bottle. ?
Lucky you sistine. Our spring has been cold and rainy.
It may freeze Saturday nite. Enough already.
Iris by Santa Maria Novella. Donāt reach for it very often at all, but iris week is as good a time as any.
Gorgeous!! SMN could easily be a favorite house, their Patchouli is stellar…
And so is Melograno which my son and I thunked.
My mother was kind enough to decant some of that for me ?
It’s beautiful, right? Don’t know why but it reminds me of Emeraude.
Brings back memories from Italy. Been meaning to try Gaggia if I can get my hands in it. Do you know it?
You smell beautiful, it was the first perfume I tried from SMN.
Thank you āŗļø
Dug my Crabtree and Evelyn Iris shower gel and moisturizer out of the linen closet! After that, Chris Rusak 33, a love letter to vetiver, orris and angelica.
Oh nice, that C&E was a decent rendition of iris.
I need to pull out my 33 sample. Out didnāt grab me when I first tried it, but youāre inspiring me.
Or maybe i shouldnāt. I was looking at his site the other day and a lot is out of stock until 2021. Best not to fall in love with something if I canāt get it.
I just found a sample of that fragrance today. It’s quite lovely.
Following lovestosmellgood’s lead.. My SOTD and holy grail Iris, Chanel No. 19 vintage extrait. š
On my second cup of coffee and out for a power walk in a second.
I’m participating in a fun work project to keep people engaged and communicating. We’re doing a play on Game of Thrones for each unit in the Library. I’m the lead for my group and have to develop a house name, motto, and sigil.
I’m using a picture SmokeyToes as the sigil (his ears are laid back, eyes dilated and fangs bared) and am thinking of House Grandison (Rouse Me Not) or House Wode (Touch Me Not) for inspiration for our motto. Wish me luck!
Chanel 19… in Vintage ?
THIS.
Love this project idea! We’re doing some things like that in our co. too.
Smelling wonderful!
You smell divine, just divine.
That sounds like great fun.
wow..vintage!
What a fun exercise! Keep us posted.
And you smell fantastic.
Samsara in my hair…yes there’s iris in the heart AND base.
Brit Parfum on wrists. I think I need a BUB of this. Jalapeno was right….sugared almonds.
Tonight stealing spritzes from my middle one’s Iris Nobile EDT.
Samrara has iris? No wonder I adore it. Glorious stuff…
Yes according to fragrantica it’s in the heart and base. Double whammy!!
OH, and I had tomorrow’s scent already picked out… I may reconsider.
??
I did not know that Samsara had iris! Surprise!
I was surprised too!
Smelling good, Robin!
SOTD: Lily by CdG; so wish I could extend this scent beyond an hour but it’s just not going there
Early 7 am walk this morn in the park (with my cup of coffee, of course). All green out there with lots of little purple flowers blooming. Quiet, peaceful.. songbirds.. delightful.
Pancakes again for breakfast š
Your morning sounds lovely.
Tomorrow I will go for a walk/jog
Seconding ltsg, what a lovely sounding morning walk š and fantastic breakfast!
You smell lovely and perfect day for Lily! That one lasts pretty well on me, but maybe it’s from getting on my clothing.
I’m in Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur today. I love it so much – on me it’s Jolie Madame with less grrr and more purr. And more iris, of course.
That one is really lovely. You smell terrific SheriG.
Thank you! I think so too. š
I can’t find the travel spray I was sure I owned of Iris Ukiyoe š so I am off-CP today in l’AP Histoire d’Orangers. My decant is almost empty, which is a true shame because it is one of the few scents that both my fiance and I love.
On another note, he’s been my fiance for one year and one week now, and would you like to know how much progress we’ve made toward the wedding? None. Ugh, at this rate, maybe we really WILL have an intimate backyard gathering under a rose bower. There are worse weddings.
I like small weddings. š
Me too! But I’m Indian and want an Indian wedding, which is the antithesis of a small, intimate wedding.
And it can go on for several days, right? A big celebration!
Yep! Long, elaborate affairs. Great fun but exhausting, I think! They’re already exhausting to attend.
Will you wear a beautiful, elaborate red gown? In the end the wedding is for the family and if you can delegate the planning to them, Ć’m sure you’ll enjoy the wedding more. That’s what I did. Rather than making every little decision myself, I let my mother be and kind of arrived like a guest, going “oh how beautiful, how nice”. I have a friend who spent her whole wedding reception in a sulk because the rose petal confetti was the wrong colour and she was invested in every detail as a PERSONAL statement of style.
I will wear a red sari! Saris are so gorgeous: six yards of fabulous silk. My mother has a lot of opinions, whereas the only thing I really care about is making sure my friends can come. So if she wants to plan it, great! But if I have to plan it, that’s fine, too; I’m flexible enough that I don’t think I’ll get too stressed out. (This runs strictly counter to my personality in general; I am not usually very flexible. But I just have so few opinions on wedding matters….)
I did this too – let my MIL plan everything and just showed up as a guest. She was thrilled and I was relieved.
Small weddings cam be wonderful! But I’m sure your planning will come together. š
I agree! But thank you, I hope so š eventually!
Couldn’t reply up top, but yes, the sari’s are beautiful and so vibrant. And having few opinions on weddings is a big plus!
I will wear Iris Ukiyoe for you tomorrow ?
Mr Marzipan and I eloped and had an intimate wedding at a posh mountain resort in their stone gazebo in a gorgeous blooming garden with a retired judge who officiated and the resort’s wedding planner as witness. Then we stayed for a few days for our honeymoon. The food was to die for and the scenery and hiking trails amazing.
I vote for a small intimate wedding for you.
That sounds gorgeous š Sounds like exactly the vacation I could use right about now!
My husband and I got married with our minimum number of witnesses to expedite matters for paperwork, and then did a celebration with our families about 1Ā½ years later, where we renewed our vows alongside my aunt and uncle who were celebrating their 40th anniversary – which brought in many more family members than usual and was super fun!
The renewal wasn’t technically our wedding of course, and we still loved our initial ceremony, but for our families that second celebration felt like the real wedding, as it was when we got to bring everyone together for the first time and acknowledge the marriage.
Don’t know if you guys have anything riding on the timing, but maybe you guys can split things up if need be?
Nah, there is no rush at all, which is part of why we’ve done zero planning. Your celebration/vow renewal sounds really lovely and nicely planned š
We had two weddings as well – the official, legal one with two witnesses and a raucous champagne party after that I don’t remember much of, and then, a couple months later, the church one with family etc. It wasn’t the plan, but I had too many dental issues and no insurance š so we had to move a bit quicker than planned. My husband’s family doesn’t really know about the first wedding…
Ooo yes, that is a great reason to get married early š but I am glad you still got to have parties later on! Sounds like you did it right with that raucous champagne celebration, too!
Glad at least that there is no hurry. I’m American and Mr. Teebear is Canadian which wound up being far more of a hassle than we had anticipated. So we got married for my residency eligibility in Canada, which sounds prosaic, but really that means “so we can try to grow old and wrinkly together” and that’s romance right there ?
Ah. No, that makes total sense and I love the adorable spin you’ve put on it š
My husband and I got married for health insurance. We had been together for 13 years by that point so we were pretty sure it would work out.
I’m part of Team Small Wedding – Mr. G and I were married in the garden at a B&B that specialized in weddings, providing rooms for out-of-towners to stay in, and doing the catering in-house (fabulously well, I might add). The B&B owner also gave me tips on florists and officiants (it was a civil ceremony, as neither of us is affiliated with a church or even a religion). The hardest thing was paring down the guest list, since my family tree is complicated and gnarly, and Mr. G’s friend-list was extensive. It turned out beautifully – just exactly what I wanted.
That sounds beautiful, SheriG!
It was truly lovely, Koyel, and I’m certain yours will be as well, whenever and wherever it finally gets to happen.
I was fortunate to be invited to an Indian wedding in Nairobi in 1981, and every now and then I think back on the amazing food, beautiful saris, and of course the spirit of the occasion. While I would normally be in the small wedding camp, if I were entitled to an Indian wedding, there is no way I would pass that up! Koyel, I wish you a wonderful one when the time is right.
Oh the food! Thank you for reminding me of the fantastic food I can look forward to at my wedding š Thank you, nozknoz!
You go ahead and have the wedding you have always dreamed of – not the one anyone else wants. I have 3 daughters and one had a born again Baptist church wedding, another had a beautiful Jewish/Christian wedding in a barn with her brother as “maid of honour” and his sister as “best man”, and another had a huge Hindu/Christian wedding with a white dress for part of it and saris for another part. All of them loved their weddings and all of them are just as married.
Oh how nice! I have been thinking of a white dress for the reception, as a nod to our American upbringing and to my fiance’s western background (he was raised Lutheran, I think? we are both atheists but enjoy holding onto culture). I’ve picked out a style (a poofy tea-length dress with lace long sleeves and a lacy boat neck!).
A barn wedding sounds terribly romantic. An acquaintance of mine had her wedding in the redwood forests of California, which resulted in the most gorgeous wedding photos I’ve EVER seen. There are so many great wedding ideas! Which is part of why I don’t really care what my wedding is like; I’m sure it’ll be great no matter what.
You”ve got the right attitude. It’s the marriage that is important, not so much the wedding.
I love boatnecks!
FWIW, my engagement was long enough that quite a few people told us “It’s about time!” at our wedding. No shame in a long engagement! ?
Feeling violety this morning, spritzed on AprĆØs lāOndĆ©e. Then after shower I put on some of my carefully hoarded Penhaligonās Violetta body lotion and lots of SL Bois de Violet. Wish it were a bit stronger, but the current version is weaker than the original. At least itās sunny today, although not warm. Happy Friday eve!
sun is key. I will take any weather as long as the sun is showing
here here!
Same.
You must smell wonderful, I’m really fond of Violetta and BdV is a favorite.
Violet is a note that tends to exhaust the olfactory system. There is a point beyond which it’s counterproductive to attempt to intensify it. That would depend on the nose, I imagine.
Enjoying myself in Niral from Neela Vermeire Creations. It’s such a good iris and the bottle is gorgeous.
Next Friday my Babcia turns 80 and we think we’ll travel to properly celebrate with her.
Have a wonderful birthday celebration, Lucas!
VCA Bois d’Iris. I love this one sooooo much. One of my top 10 for sure.
Today is my Friday, yay! Hoping to get a little housework done this weekend and otherwise just enjoy my back yard and patio. I need to fertilize a rose bush I bought and planted earlier this spring. It’s a Mr. Lincoln rose which was my dear uncle’s (a rose gardener extraordinaire) favorite. It’s blooming beautifully and smells just as fabulous as I remember.
That’s my fragrance for tomorrow. You smell mahhhhhvelous. Your Mr. Lincoln rose is beautiful (I’m just learning about roses – looked it up.) My mom’s favorite rose is the Peace rose. Lovely pinky-yellow. The rose world is amazing!
I love Peace as well and would love one. My uncle was a educator and administrator (didnāt retire until he was 80!) and he spent his summers tending his HUGE rose garden. It took up their whole front yard which was rather large. He had several Peace bushes. I learned so much from him and the time I spent with him! Everything I know about rose care is from him! š Snd I agree, the rose world is truly amazing.
Wow, can I have any more typos in this lol? Iāll blame it on a long week and multitasking haha.
Love Bois d’Iris, you smell lovely. Your day off sounds ideal, enjoy.
You smell great! I love that one too.
I just love Bois d’Iris and depending on the weather it gets more woody-salty or more powdery-earthy on my skin.
I’m loving the discussion on Peace and Mr. Lincoln roses. I remember both smelling wonderful. It’s been too long since I have smelled either. ?
Woke up in a haze of Coco Mademoiselle and see that I have 3 packages coming my way today. I think my travel set will be in my grubby hands either tomorrow or Saturday. I am wearing Kyoto today and going to wear ISM tomorrow.
You smell great!
Nothing better than package tracking! Iām waiting for several myself. The online process of purchasing/shipping ANYTHING has really gone the way of the turtle. Kyoto is wonderful.
Good morning Y’all!
Trying out a new to me scent today: Calvin Klein Contradiction. I was interested in the eucalyptus note, but I’ve yet to smell it. Only really getting quite a bit of lily-of-the-valley 4 hours in…..
Great office scent though! Gentle and soft…..
I have always wondered about that one! Sounds like a good thing I did not buy a vintage bottle unsniffed.
I have a now-vintage bottle of CK Contradiction, and I can smell the eucalyptus clearly. However, I would say that Contradiction is not a safe blind buy. It’s definitely a weird perfume.
Oooh — now I am tempted again!
No iris points here: Chanel Allure Edition Blanche for a sunny and warmish spring day in Seattle.
But you smell good enough to not miss the points š
Drenched in Byredo Gypsy Water hair perfume spray, as it’s my only other iris-containing scent.
It’s a lovely choice for people who want to like iris or incense, but find them a bit much as focal points for a frag – I can definitely pick them both out in the development but they don’t take over.
I have the roller oil of Gypsy Water as well, but actually prefer the hair perfume as the citrus is more subdued in it!
PSA: FAMILY20 for 20% off Atelier Cologne
Ends May 11. Hop to it!
thank you for the heads up!
La la la I can’t hear you…
Lol
No stahp I don’t want to see this.
My conscience using its Obi-Wan Kenobi voice: “These aren’t the perfumes you are looking for! Move along!”
Heh,I think my work is done with the enabling ?
L’Artisan Mon Numero 8 – which has iris in there. Was planning to wear Infsion d’Iris, but despite being sunny, it is chilly and the no 8 is cozy in the drydown.
Made a homemade mint spray and sprayed all over the house as a homemade remedy for mice- will see if it works. We have a ? family (certainly more than one) of tiny brown mice and they quite audaciously dart in at around 11 pm and make a beeline for the fridge. However, we have spotted a beautiful owl in our garden twice this past week and now I we can only hope that he will get rid of our infestation. Owls always seem such mythical birds to me. As though they come and visit from a different realm.
Oh god, I HATE mice!? Weāve been in our house for 10 years and had mice in the house for the first time last fall. I was standing in the kitchen one afternoon unloading groceries when one darted across the kitchen floor. I screamed so loud it set off the audio on our Halloween decorations out in the living room. I wore my Sorels in the house for the rest of the day.?
That is too funny!
We just did some heavy duty pest control at our house. Since the critters keep dying, there is a LOT of shrieking happening (mostly from me). The poor dog is very alarmed!
So funny. I know the mice are there, but I still shriek whenever I see one! Will let you know whether the spray works.
How kind to use a deterrent rather than eliminating them. I agree owls are mystical, the bird of Athena.
I googled and read this: According to myth, an owl sat on Athena’s blind side, so that she could see the whole truth. Struck a chord with me. And I hope you’re well.
Hey! I found a small bottle of Soivohle Orris Ochre this morning, so I’m all about the CP today!
It’s a lovely, sunny day here in the desert, and thankfully not yet up to summer temps. That will come soon enough.
Smell good, everybody.
I like that name, is it good?
It is. I like a lot of her stuff – it’s different, and unexpected. There’s usually at least one strange note in her compositions, which I appreciate. Orris Ochre is initially kind of earthy, and then a very distinct violet note comes through. It’s not super long lasting on me, though, and after a couple of hours it’s just a faint wisp of powder scent.
Thanks!
I am wearing Nicolai Cap Neroli today and drinking my second cup of chai tea.
Mmmm, chai!āļø
Having a totally disorganized perfume day. At my desk, I absentmindedly grabbed some small decant and applied. Grabbed another, applied. Realizing that I was now wearing perfume, scrutinized what I put on–an unwitting combo of Amber Oud and Goldea. Weirdly, I smell sassafras and maple sugar–or at least the scent of sassafras sucking candies I used to get when I was a kid–no idea if they actually mimicked real sassafras. It’s not unpleasant.
interesting combo, sounds pretty good! I love your family’s idioms, they sound like would be in an English novel š
Wearing Baiser Vole Cartier today, and every time I wear it I like it more and may eventual end up with a bottle. It brings to mind white gloves and silk gowns. It smells like Jean Harlow looked, except maybe not quite as lush.
Baisers Vole is great, you smell wonderful. If you go for a bottle do try all the concentrations, I actually prefer the sparkling EDT but they are all good.
I like Baiser Vole as well – and it’s not hard to find it for a good price!
Jacomo Silences…from Lucasz TBOP š
such a pretty dusty earthy fragrance…I might need more of this!
It took me a moment to realize what TBOP is š
? āļø ? āØ
Itās such a cheap delight, too.
Tried my sample of La Pausa, that I got from Portia, but was not overwhelmed, just carroty iris. Topped it up with Cabotine, whis is a really fun scent.
I miss Portia’s lovely little packages…
Commando atm, thinkin about iris but I really got to be in the mood for it. Mmm, I am thinking Tabu:)
Before the Covid, I was trying to find a ticket to a fave comedian’s show that was scheduled for June or July. All the good tickets were sold out. It’s since been rescheduled for the fall and tickets just went back on sale. I went to check if there were any good seats that popped up and voila! I got the last ones available. Someone must have asked for a refund and gave up the tics. I am elated..it’s not till the fall but it gives me something to look forward to..if it’s not cancelled again! It’s for Brian Regan, he’s hilarious. ?
Another hot one today, 94Ā° or so, yesterday was 98Ā°. Whoa mamma:).
Nice! Iām still waiting to hear when my May 30 concert will be rescheduled to.
Madtown, I have not forgotten about your Eau Premiere lemming. I would like to send you a decant, perhaps during the upcoming splitmeet? If you want, you can send me your address ahead of time. You can email me at kalliela11 at the hawtmail:).
Aw, you are so sweet but I finally caved, lol, and bought a huge 5 oz bottle off eBay. Iām set for awhile.? Thanks for thinking of me though!
Oh awesome,congrats!! It’s a beauty:).
T Rex, rahrr! And I placed a Lush order yesterday, they have free shipping right now and I’m gonna run out of good soap soon.
Iām gonna run out of my rainbath shower gel soon too and I always get it at Nordstrom rack which wonāt be open for at least another 3 weeks.
Have you looked on the Nordstrom Rack website for your shower gel?
Man, I been wanting to try T Rex, it sounds fantastic..nice on the free shipping with Lush. I need more Rose Jam in my life but..I shall behave:).
Decided to try out Chanel No. 19, my officiest of office scents, to see whether I’d feel like I was at work – or even feel like working. Instead, I’m getting “Why do I smell Chanel? It’s summer out there!”
Wow, a painfully slow day so far. Before “work” I tried to complete, via phone, last night’s unsuccessful online order and waited a whole bunch of time. Fortunately, I thought to put the dreadful muzak on Speaker, and proceeded to switch over to my summer wardrobe, thus combining two horrid tasks.
Hey twin!? ugh, muzak.?
No 19 edp, which now gives me a Steely Dan earworm. (thanks lillyjo?)
Kinda sunny, kinda warm, so Iāll take it. BTW tomorrow.?
Good luck, you smell all ready for it.
Thanks!
Steely Dan is the bomb! ?
ā70ās music!??
Heure Exquise today – decant done! Yay!
I’m trying to get started on grading – it’s actually pleasant reading, but it’s still so much work that I have a hard time getting started.
Attending a webinar later to learn about an Ed.D. program – if there are any Ed.D.’s out there, give me a holler!
In Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue which smells quite like l’Heure Bleue which is fine by me.
21 degree Celsius, blue sky, white clouds, but the weather will change to cooler for this three day weekend.
Have you tried Prada Purple Rain? It’s like richer, more mature version of Infusion d’Iris Absolue.
No, I never had the chance but I remember now that you are a fan.
You’ll be getting more nice weather later on, though.
Thank you Jalapeno, good to know, but send some more rain, please ?
Oh, no problem with that… plenty of it in my forecast! I’ll try my hardest to wish it your way. ?ā

In other news:
1. Just got word from de boss that I would be part of the last group to return to the office. Woo hoo! As much as I enjoy being in the office and with other people, it would be very hard to balance the safety (or lack thereof) of a long public transportation commute and the end results of my work. There is still so much we donāt know.
2. I accidentally found out yesterday that my laptop has a touch screen. As I may have mentioned, I got this laptop a little over a year ago because I knew I would need it when Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 and indeed, in January, I cracked open the box. I bought this specific one as it had the biggest screen and was on sale for just a fraction over $400. Yesterday, while dusting off a little speck on the screen, it jumped to the application underneath the little speck. Now I can be very dangerous ?
I wish my Macbook had a touch screen! Of course it doesnāt otherwise why would anyone buy an Ipad!!
exactly.
Trudat!
Iām so happy to hear you get to stay home longer! I have to laugh at people who wonder if the virus will come back in fall. Has it suddenly departed and I was unaware? ?
I bet you smell wonderful! That was one I was hankering for when it came out.
Good luck with that laptop! I donāt like touch screens at all..
Thank you. The touch screen is just a bonus and I am unlikely to use it all that often.
Our bosses have been trying to send us back on a voluntary basis for the past month because apparently my industry has been deemed essential. It isn’t, and so far I have been able to push back and not go in every time my boss has asked, but I don’t know how long I’ll be able to put it off. I’m glad you don’t have to go back yet!
Did he give a reason? If not, as I understand it, the opening up means youāre allowed to do it with appropriate precautions, including requiring the 6 feet between people, etc. but if the company can function just as well with remote workers, donāt be in a hurry to bring workers in.
Glad to hear that you will be hunkered down for a while longer!
So am I.
Itās a stunning sunny and cool day here, but I mostly missed it due to that thing called āsleep.ā
One of the most popular (and my personal favorite) trail area opened on Friday. Lots of memories from when I lived here, including a night hike with a creepy ending. But, itās so overrun with people, I hesitate to go.

“A night hike with a creepy ending” sounds like either a slasher movie or an Alice Cooper video!
Ha! Yeah, more like slasher movie in the making.
Wearing Hiris today from my vintage blue bottle. After lunch I will spray on a bit more to power through the day.
I have that blue bottle and love it. The blue is so saturated and striking. The perfume isnāt bad either! ?
Yes, that bottle!
I took a break from iris to return to my Anima Vinci sample set with Jasmine Yang. I find this scent very surprising! The impression is a soft floral that is almost a gourmand with a touch of powder and yet has a subtle freshness. Imagine a jasmine marshmallow, for example.
I’m not sure how they achieved this delicate balance but the notes include water jasmine, frangipani, vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli, among others.
They also have a blog (the Conquer section of their site). I thought this Valentines post on Tips for a Long Love Life was well done:
https://animavinci.com/blogs/conquer/tips-for-a-long-love-life
Obviously, it draws from other sources but selected with care, I think.
Jasmine Yang is one of my favourites from their sample set. For me itās a joyful fragrance.
Yes — it’s instant perfect sunny day in a bottle!
Which, BTW, is exactly the effect they were after:
“Reminiscing Ubud, Bali, we wanted to replicate the uplifting spiritual ceremonies. Itās this shared experience ā this communal joy.”
A jasmine marshmallow sounds like a yummy gourmet treat!
Many thanks to everyone for the congratulations and Happy Anniversary wishes yesterday!
And now, for more good news. It’s a bright and sunny day here. It’s not going to last, but for now the cats and I are enjoying it. ?????
Also, my dishwasher issue (leaking) might have been fixed today! Someone was here earlier this afternoon to take a look at it. He couldn’t find anything obviously wrong with it. However, he did suggest that oversudsing might be the root cause of the leak, based on the information I told him, as well as what he observed with my machine. So he suggested running the dishwasher empty and without detergent a few times. If it didn’t leak, then the detergent was the issue. And if that was the case, try a different detergent.
SOTD = back in Mon Guerlain EdP, from the sample stash. I have plenty of iris options for tomorrow, so I will go with whatever suits my mood and the weather.
dishwashers are finicky sometimes š
so happy you wore Mon Guerlain EdP today. I knew I had a sample somewhere, couldn’t find it all week, and when I read your SOTD is MG the mystery location popped into my head. I’m enjoying it. I love lavender, and the jasmine reminds of another scent with jasmine, Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
Interesting… I get no jasmine at all with Monsieur Li. It’s all citrus and a hint of something mineral. It’s still too cool for me to bring out my sample of that. ??
Robin gets nine enabler pins
My Vitabath order came in
Five VERY large hand sanitizers ( like Purell but made with essential oils and are double the size), hand soaps and the original green gelee bath and shower which was ubiquitous in my childhood home….the scent brings back a flood of memories.
Good to know! I bought four bottles of the hand sanitizer. Iām running very low and am looking forward to the smell good replacements.
In my area hand sanitizers have been out of stock since beginning of February. When Robin posted it as a daily lemming I pounced! Plus, I got a 20 percent off for Mother’s day.
Ditto all of this. ?
???
And Deva I am glad you got some too!!! I think we are covered now ?
Yay, glad everyone is covered for germ killing…
Wearing Fils de Dieu today, but then I had a mishap with Ormonde Woman, and now I’m wearing quite a lot of that too, as is my bathroom floor, shirt, pants, and bathmat…
Oops! Nice smelling mishap, though.
Aw!
Iām wearing Ormond Jayne Orris Noir, one of the only iris fragrances I have knowingly liked. I get that itās buttery from this one, and no carrots. I say āknowinglyā because some scents people have listed have surprised me. Mitsouko? Wow! I talked to Mom today and she said she has the sniffles so that has thrown me into major panic mode.
oh, Calypso, fingers crossed Mom has a bit of allergies or just a minor something or other. Hugs to you both.
Hugs Calypso.
Iām wondering if itās allergies too. Winds out of the north as of yesterday, and something else is blowing in this evening. Sheās in good hands, but hugs to you both just the same.
Sniffles arenāt a coronavirus symptom, hopefully itās just allergies.
Another day in the toxic sludge that is my department office. Not sure how much longer I can take being in there. 1 of my coworkers has an interview tomorrow, another is looking for other jobs, and 1 is considering early retirement. It’s that oppressive. Such a miserable bunch of people intent on making other people miserable. Lots of confrontations today, but home now and can breathe.
Lush American Cream solid today. I definitely smell some iris in there. Iris-y vanilla. I put a little right under my nose so I could smell it in spite of wearing a mask all day.
mmmm, iris + vanilla sounds very soothing. š
sorry about the workplace woes! I worked in an office that was really awful many years ago, the turnover of employees was constant, but the really miserable people all stayed. I was there just 3 years, but that felt like forever to me.
So, true! The most miserable ones have been there for 30 years. The nicest one is relatively new.
And it’s only been 2 days, but feels like 2 years ??
Yuck and double yuck. Is your resume up to date? Your coworkers might have the right idea; time to leave!
I’m trying to stick it out since this isn’t a permanent arrangement, though our facility is a taking a financial hit, so I’m a bit worried about longer term security, so should have it up to date, in case.
The one with the interview already had a prior in there. The one looking now is saying she’s seeing that there’s not a lot of hiring happening right now, understandably.
SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT
Super easy choice for Iris Thursday. Usually choose this one after an evening bath/shower, but it worked in the warm weather this afternoon. Yesterday was L’Heure Bleue EdT, and I can still smell it when I squint and smell my wrists sideways. Perhaps Infusion revived it a bit.
Truly hope everyone had something to smile about today. š
Hurray for finding your wayward sample today!
oh thank you, Jalapeno! š
your mention of not smelling jasmine in Mr Li makes me wonder if I’m super sensitive to some jasmine aromachemicals. The jasmine in Mon Guerlain and Mr Li are both close to a punch in the nose, which I don’t mind, but I’m glad when that part of the perfume settles down and fades away so I can smell something else. And I truly love the smell of jasmine, so it’s all good.
Late check in today. Working in the yard to help put up a trellis which will have honeysuckle on it. Iām in a couple of helpings of Hiris, and I certainly smell more lovely than I look. ?
I love honeysuckle! We have it out back on a fence but would love to have some on a trellis by my porch.
Started out in Blood Blonds today, now Rogue Tabac Vert. Iāll get some Iris in before the end of the day!
Spent the last hour of work out on the deck today (first time Iā be done this since shelter in place orders). My sinuses are now partly closed up: itās official, my allergy season has begun. ? Oh well, at least itās short. Usually lasts from Motherās Day to Fatherās Day for me.
Ugh, sorry MissGoldsmith!
Hmmm. āBlood Blondsā would be… interesting? I could see ELDO doing that, perhaps. Bois Blonds was what I actually wore!
After work I added some No 19 Parfum and now Iāve added some Incense Pure because my SSS box arrived, so… the good news is Iāll go through perfume much faster while WFH!
