It's International Dance Day and Duke Ellington’s birthday. RIP Irrfan Khan. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque Eau des Sens.
Reminder: 5/1 is May Day! Don't forget to rabbit rabbit rabbit, and wear the fragrance that sent you down the rabbit hole. (I think someone suggested this project, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Penhaligon’s Ostara in copious amounts to conjure Spring. Back to dark, cold and rainy days again. After my second cup of coffee I am having now a small bowl of fat free plain greek yogurt with a tablespoon on top of hot pepper cranberry jam. Delish!!!!!!
I’m sorry the weather has turned gloomy. Your snack sounds super yummy!
Hopefully the sun will be back during the weekend. Crossing fingers! ??
Ostara is spring in a bottle
Very cheerful for sure!
Scent twins!! But only because your comment jogged my memory. We smell wonderful 🙂
Hi twin! ?. We smell terrific!
Weather twins. It’s discusting out. Weekend is supposed to be nice though.
Let’s hope we can enjoy a nice weekend. Right now is very depressing!
two thumbs up for Ostara and yogurt + jam! 😀 😀
??
Greek yoghurt with cranberry jam, that sounds so good!!!!
Most of the time I do not eat flavoured yogurts, but I like to add a touch of sweetness to the plain one by using fruits, preserves, jams or spices. That way I control the amount of sugar in it. Pretty tasty!
No rain here, but plenty of clouds this afternoon. Sigh.
SOTD is Vetiver Tonka. It’s been a while since I wore this and I forgot how good it is. ?

You smell wonderful – VT is really good.
Glorious ! VT is an awesome fragrance.

Thank you!!!!
Happy belated birthday! Hope you enjoyed your day and your pie!
Robin, I was inspired by your apparent week of Diptyque to get my solids out of the drawer, and am wearing a healthy smudge of Essences Insensées 2016, the rose de mai one. It’s *so* good, deep without being dark, a bit of sugared fruit but mostly intense rose rose rose. Spring is determined not to come (it’s cold and windy again for the third day running and there are no leaves on the trees yet) but I’m going to pretend that at least something is flowering.
That sounds so lovely! We are having a weird spring too, but my husband reminds me that is true for some years now. “Old fashioned” spring might just be over in my piece of PA.
Our library is opening up to the public in a limited fashion, as per Gov. Abbott of Texas executive order. We will use as many of the suggested health protocols as possible. So, no weeks at home for me unless something catastrophic happens. Right now, our rural county has run 132 tests, and 20 have come back positive, only two people were hospitalized, and no deaths so far. We can only pray that continues.
SOTD is Rhubarb & Clary Sage, one of my first Acqua Colonias, and still my favorite. For some reason right now I’m preferring aromatic scents, to the more complex fragrances I was planning to wear.
That is wonderful news on the Covid-19 front. 🙂
Dear PriscillaE-I am beyond jealous of your library opening.
I’m glad your community is relatively untouched. I hope it continues, and wish I could come visit your library.
Good luck, Priscilla! Do you think you can convince people to wear masks in the library?
The son of a friend of mine in West Virginia had to reopen his cellphone store and told my friend was very difficult to get customers to adhere to social distancing. WV has one of the oldest populations in the US, so that’s worrisome. It looks like Texas has one of the youngest, though:
https://insurify.com/insights/states-with-oldest-population-2020/
Our county is a retirement community, and we have an older population. We will do our best to enforce our health protocols with the public, and if we have to be draconian about it, so be it.
“If we have to be draconian about it, so be it” sounds like a slogan tee shirt, PriscillaE. ?
I work in a University library – I’m missing coworkers terribly.
Best wishes for your library re-opening!
SOTD La Danza Delle Libellule
It impossible to wear this one and be in a bad mood. Its sweet vanilla and apple cake
Mood: Introducing the kids to Bob Marley…
I asked about LRP skincare, I think the duo Effaclar is working well, a bit drying but so far so good…I am wondering if I should of bought the Adapalene gel but I think my face isn’t that bad. We shall see.
Love Bob! Legend is a Sunday morning go to.
So far its a hit..
That sounds like a wonderful morning. I hope the kids are enjoying the great music.
How are you? Are you having to teach online?
I’m OK. I am teaching 110 high school students online and not loving it, but it keeps me busy. The hardest thing (aside from missing the kids) is not being able to just see where confusion is and address it for everyone immediately. Teaching replication, transcription and translation has been interesting to say the least! Thank goodness there are a lot of great videos available to help.
You smell yummy!
SOTD is vintage Aliage by EL. The oakmoss is very front-and center in this green beauty.
Happy hump day to all.
About to head out for a four-mile run.
Meep Meep!
You smell wonderful! I used to wear Aliage daily, waaaay back when it was new. I didn’t know then just how good it was (way before the rabbit hole captured me) – I only knew I loved it.
How was your sleep last night?
My sleep was difficult! I have to work on reducing caffeine. 😯
To get off to dreamland, I read several chapters of The Bronze Horseman – it’s quite the good read.
I love Aliage too! So green and fresh.
Hadn’t been able to get it in Canada forever but finally nabbed some on EL online – it’s not vintage but it’s still killer.
You smell fabulous!
You smell wonderful! My mom wore Aliage in the 70s.
Thank you! My dad’s mother wore this as a signature Summer scent.
I remember smelling her fresh off the tennis courts or after an afternoon swim. She smelled like a mixture of salt, Coppertone, and Aliage.
❤️ Aliage. I have some vintage to pull out soon. You smell wonderful.
I can’t believe that I’ve missed out on smelling Aliage! I’m pretty sure I saw the bottle at my local department stores every so often. Then again, it took me AGES to finally get a sniff of Youth Dew, and that’s practically everywhere. ?♀️
Lea over Almond Milk Body Yogurt from the Body Shop.
Got some disappointing news yesterday, summer camp is cancelled.☹️ This would have been madtownteen’s 5th summer and my older daughter’s tenth! 8 summers as a camper and this would have been her second summer as a camp counselor. She started crying. I hugged her and I cried too. My heart just breaks for her. ?She’s the one who has been most affected by all of this…having to move out of the dorm and do classes online and now her dream job nixed. She has handled it all with grace, yesterday was the straw I think. She’s young and resilient and I know she’ll be fine. I get that it’s for the greater good. It still stinks.
Oh, that’s such a bummer! Please give your daughter a hug from me. It’s got to be so hard for young people who were tasting freedom for the first time and are suddenly back in the role of “kids at home”. I would have hated being put on pause in my early 20s.
Thanks sistine, I will! I would have hated it too, plus to be stuck at home. I know she has friends who are all back home too but they can’t really get together right now.
It does still stink!
I’m sorry.
Thanks lillyjo, it totally does.?
..summer camp canceled! I am sure if it is in your neck of the woods it will be here too. Geez..
I am so sorry for you and your family.
Can we meet somewhere virtually and have a glass of wine and cry for our children..
Thanks ltsg.
Better yet, when this is all over you can pass me a virtual cup of your FIL’s chai!?
Ew that’s a rough one. Parents of young ones will surely need this by June. Fingers crossed maybe they can aleast create local day camps if we get a lucky break soon.
Oh no! You are living my nightmare scenario. We have not heard yet, but I’m crossing my fingers camp can still happen. I’m sorry for such disappointing news for you and your kids.
Thanks missionista, I will keep my fingers crossed for you too!?
We’ve been taking a kid to camp since 2007, I couldn’t help but get emotional myself. Camp has been huge to our family.
There is only so much disappointment a (young) person can handle right? I’m very sorry for you. My 13 year old and I were supposed to be on a legendary trip to New York right now. I’m proud she didn’t loose it when we couldn’t go.
Thanks Hilde. Sorry about your trip, that is a bummer too.☹️
I’m so sorry for those who have had plans cancelled. Camp is especially hard. I still consider not being able to go to Girl Scout camp some 50 years ago as a disappointing memory (injured foot…)
It is hard…☹️
That is a bummer. So many disappointments for kids this year. But, true, they are resilient, probably more than adults are. Hugs to you both!
Thanks Elisa P, hugs back! I’ve been thinking about you and hope that you and your husband are both safe and well!
It’s going to be a Cruel Summer for a lot of people this year.
I’m wearing Serin by January Scent Project on this glorious sunny day. Marigolds and incense? Yes please!
I’m currently wading through a 51 page pdf about the upcoming online AP exams to pull out the important parts for my students. It’s not the most exciting way to spend a morning, but it’s tolerable because I know that I get to play with the dog in the sun when I’m finished.
Yay for getting out in the sun! And marigolds & incense sounds lovely.
51 pages! good gosh, what is the College Board thinking! 😉 you’re doing right by your students for sure.
A 51-page PDF???? ?
This morning, I woke up in Amouage Memoir Man and blogged about it. I did order that Hedonist travel set from Luckyscent. Yes, a little bit of bottle porn for the day. I a couple weeks, I will probably order a FB but not right this second. Wearing Kyoto and going to work later today but working a short shift.
Travel sets are the best! I think I, too, lost interest in Amouage after Beloved. I was so disappointed in the book scents.
Amouage seemed to go from one extreme to the other. From heavy hitters to these weak things.
Woke up to bright sunshine and sprayed on lots of Cristalle EDT. Now clouds are gathering and it looks like we might get more rain. Ah well, we need it here. I need to find out about dandelion soup or something – bumper crop out there in the yard. 🙂
Dandelions get bad press, I love them. So cheery! There’s quite a few recipes online, my uncle made delicious dandelion wine.
Ooh, don’t you smell wonderful!
Inches closer to get a sniff….
All virtual sniffing encouraged! 🙂
The benefit of working from home is that I can spray as much of whatever I want and not worry about people with scent allergies at work…
So today is a good dose of Shalimar: I love experiencing all the levels it goes through over the course of the day… and every time I wear it, it’s like a new journey.
Ah Shalimar..
She is the Queen.
@Lovestosmellgood – she sure is.
I discovered this group about 6 months ago and blind bought Shalimar as a first step in my perfumista journey. What a trip!
A good blind buy!
That is my favorite way to wear Shalimar, big clouds of it. Glad you are able to indulge and enjoy.
I still have memories of my cloud of Shalimar suffocating my junior high school science class.
Ha! Indeed. Shalimar was one of my teenage scents as well. And I still enjoy it!
I love Shalimar best at bed time. It’s glorious.
Happy Hump Day!
I couldn’t decide which of 3 perfumes to wear for CP on Friday, so I’m starting early. Today is rather a lot of vintage Poison. I wore this in the late 80s when I was in college and loved it. I didn’t think much about perfume at that time in my life, but I did think a lot about incense and making incense, and even did so back in the day. So I’ll count this as one of the rabbit hole fragrances that got me started.
Side note, I would never wear this to a yoga class in the outside world, because it is just TOO TOO, but plan to do yoga at home later today, and I am happy to be able to wear it to my “home studio” aka the dining room.
Yes! Indulging in spray after spray of all the “too toos” in my collection is some tiny compensation for being stuck at home. I have never worn Poison, but the most glamorous woman in one of my college seminars did (very fine actor, gorgeous, wicked smart, nice — at least to timid little FY me). It’s not a fragrance for me, but oh my, did she rock it.
You smell great! I wore copious amounts of Poison in my early 20’s.
You are smelling great! I went thru a few bottles of Poison myself!
Which concentration is your vintage Poison?
I’m into the “dirties” nowadays. SOTD is Under my skin from Fransesca Bianchi. I can really understand if people don’t like her perfumes, but I do!
I wore this the other day. I think it’s fantastic!
Yes, it is!! And so unclean in a good way.
Listening to a Milliman call estimating the cost of COVID for healthcare for work. ?
Wearing Solstice Scents Estate Cacao. Chocolate and patchouli goodness.
Oh, dear — good thing you’ve got chocolate and patchouli on hand for that call!
You smell yummy! I did patchouli & vanilla today.
How close is Estate Cocoa to TM Angel, if at all?
To my nose, not similar really.
Angel to me has always been very Christmas-y w/ the balsam and some woods. This one has no balsam and very little woods that I discern. Angel is very distinct to me…looking at Fragrantica they classify as a oriental vanilla and I can see that but I wouldn’t mistake it w/ any other oriental vanilla if that makes sense. 🙂 I quite liked Muse but never bought a bottle and am kind of thinking I should have….maybe it has been reformulated already.
Parle Moi de Parfum: Guimauve de Noel. It’s not really Christmassy despite the Noel in the name. It’s a simple, light and sweet (but not overly) orange blossom. I think it’s beautiful. It’s not outrageous, but not inexpensive either. However, it would nicely fill a hole in my collection.
I’ve been meaning to order a sample of that one. Apparently it’s one of their bestsellers. I adore their Milky Musk on cold days.
Guimauve de Noel was a Grain de Musc top ten of 2016:
http://graindemusc.blogspot.com/2016/12/scents-of-year-my-top-10-picks-for-2016.html
Do you detect any resemblance to Séville à l’aube?
I loved the story behind Séville à l’aube, but not the fragrance. It just didn’t pull me in and it’s hard to remember why now. Too green or something. They share orange blossom, but I think the Guimauve is simpler, not exactly linear, but not complex -just a lovely fragrance.
Lush Dear John from an ancient solid — I was afraid maybe the scent would have degraded, but it’s still strong and lovely.
Oh good! It is surprising how long some solids last.
Guerlain Vetiver. This scent is so… direct? Dunno – obvs not good with the words today.
Really enjoy Eau des Sens too. I will probably go for a Dyptique on Friday as it is definitely the house that sent me down the rabbit hole.
It’s straight-up vetiver! I love it for summer, especially. Cuts through the heat and humidity and stands up to freezing AC, too.
Yes! Your so right. It’s a scent that doesn’t care about the weather. It’s going to be straight up vetiver whatever the weather. Which puts me in mind of this:
Whether the weather be fine
Or weather the weather be not
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
Whatever the weather,
We’ll wheather the weather,
Weather we like it or not.
Love that! The missing last line is clearly “Vetiver!” ?
Oh I and the nephews love that scent- there was a time when ALL of us would wear that scent!
The acorn woodpeckers are drumming on the house, it must be spring. We used to have a barrel tile roof, boy did they love that (arg)
SOTD is Fort & Manle Impressions de Giverney. Florals with some zingy fruits and greens in the background. Total spring.
My bottle of L’Ame Perdue has arrived! I was wondering if it would ever get here. I ordered direct from Le Galion and never got any notice of shipping, but here it is. They sent me the FB I ordered (100ml) plus a 10ml travel spray! Well I certainly should have enough of it, lol. Now I just have to wait while the bottle sits in quarantine for a few days….
I have a little perfume package sitting in quarantine too. Each time I walk by I think “patience, my pretties, patience.” 😉
Woodpecker envy!
Wouldn’t woodpecker be great for Zoologist ?
Yes!
Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre and a cup of maple tea for me on this rainy morning.
Oh yum all around.
It’s raining again but the maple leaves are emerging ? Wearing Hove Fascinator; I could make a Bloody Mary and pretend that I’m at the gazebo in the French Quarter.
Ah, indeed you could!
Just scented lotion atm that Rain one by Meyers. Not terrible but generally not a fan of aquatic scents. This was a free sample from a grocery store.
Feelin a little impatient with the covid lockdown, like many others, just wanting to feel a bit more normal. I am guessing we will be shut down till June 1 or Memorial Day as rumored. Our Governor is supposed to address us tomorrow.
I got a sandwich delivered yesterday and they went the extra mile for me, literally. What was a little sad is the tone of the voice in the person who took the order. Food service has been hit hard.
Omega, I miss so many things that I will not be able to do any time soon, no matter what my governor says. So I am with you!
Still Chergui. About to go reapply before sitting down to grading and online office hours.
Thanks for all the warm anniversary wishes on Monday! After seven years of marriage and six weeks of stay-at-home isolation, we still like each other. 🙂
Huzzah! Happy anniversary.
Miller & Bertaux Shanti Shanti, a rose-patchouli that feels like a comfort scent to me.
As it should be with that name, right?
Can’t go with with rose & patchouli in my book!
*pops in*
Hey guys! Long time no sniff!
1) These past few weeks have been shutdown in Portland, OR. There are businesses working and going on, but in a very restrained manner. I have been working from home, doing network checkups, calls and systems reporting. At first I missed the hum of the server room and a good gossip face to face with co workers but honestly I have come to enjoy having a 1 minute commute and a midmorning exercise break! Once the waves of illness have abated (note the plural) many people who would be still employed will need to rethink how they do work.
1a) My family in NYC is safe and well, as are their friends and associates- but the stories are deeply grim.
1b) Summer vacation, cancelled- No Ashland trips for Shakespeare, no trip to Europe to see friends, no long twilight lit nights with friends at the beer halls toasting and joking. No beach, it seems. So it’s hanging out in the back yard, and let me tell you, my garden is gonna be LIT.
2) i am in a combo of The Organic Pharmacy Rose jasmine oil and Philosophy Soft Suede- which seemed truly perfect on this perfect mild spring day.
Glad you and your family are OK!
I’m retired but I love getting to classes in a minute that used to be at least an hour away. I’m able to take advantage of many more interesting classes and lectures that before without the tiring trip on Metro. Of course, the videos were often available online afterward, but there’s something about doing it live and being able to ask or submit questions.
Your layering combo sounds wonderful!
Hey you!
Yeah, I started doing cert classes for my industry a couple of weeks ago – before I would have traveled to after hours classroom. Given my long commute, this made it very exhausting- even though I did enjoy the interaction with my fellow engineers. The ease of logging on and using Skype is so, so nice indeed!
yah, gardens gonna be lit this summer! 😀
Everyone in my little hood are doing up their outdoors spaces. It was pretty before, don’t get me wrong but it is looking straight up AMAZING now.
Waving ‘hi’!
*waves back from a safe, virtual distance*
I found a decant of Ylang 49 on top of the perfume cabinet where all sorts of things collect and couldn’t remember what it smelled like. So I put some on, and it mostly smells like gardenia. Moving it to the give-away box. Chanel’s gardenia is better.
next! 😉
I don’t get any gardenia from that one; it’s all warm golden florals and woods to me. But I do think you smell great!
No gardenia for me with Ylang 49 either. I think I get something close to what Elisa P smells.
Robin, you smell great! I always steal a spritz of Eau des Sens from my little sister when I visit her.
I’m in my sample of Dzongkha again today, sniffing my wrists often.
I never thought of Dzongkha for spring, but it would be great in the cool, damp weather we’re having here in the DC area. Thanks for the idea!
For some reason I forget about my bottle of Dzonghka all the time (er, “too much perfume” is probably the reason), but then whenever I do remember it I fall in love with it all over again.
Yep, you smell great too and my EdS is pretty faint, so perhaps I will join you 🙂
As I’ve acquired more perfume, I’ve come around to your idea that a perfume should smell lovely for about four hours…and then move aside so you can give something else a spin!
So true!
🙂
I’m wearing Trillium, by House of Matriarch. It’s super green and herbal, really fresh. It reminds me of something – maybe a perfume, I can’t put my finger on it – from my teenage years (AKA long, long ago). The floral notes really lift this one. It’s supposed to be all about tea, but I don’t get much tea from it. It’s almost like Florist’s Fridge, but a little more grounded and herbal. I like it.
At first I read that as “The House of Mariachis” and that made me laugh! But might be some interesting fun scents there!
House of Mariachis is an excellent name for a perfume house! Or a band, for that matter.
The rain has stopped this evening. I have started the kitchen spring cleaning (cabinets doors done).
Like some of you an went through several perfumes: the cheerful Cacharel Amor Amor with it’s peerless citrus opening, then Lavender Petite Robe Noire Couture (It’s the only LPRN working for me) I had forgotten about it, and this evening Terry de Gunzburg Rouge Nocturne, a favourite patchouli rose. I now have to decide what to prepare for dinner.
The Couture LPRN is my favorite of the line too. Although, I have not tried them all.
We share so many likes and dislikes; Couture is more sophisticated than the other LPRN I tried imo, after all it is classified as a fruity chypre and I enjoy the raspberry note instead of the cherry of the original.
Yes! Out of the 3 I’ve tried, Couture smelled like a “proper” perfume to me. I didn’t realize it was a chypre.
I’m sampling Profumum Roma Sorriso and it is YUM. Yumyumyum. Milk chocolate, vanilla and spices. I don’t get much orange. This is a lot like Anima Dulcis, but softer in focus. Not sure it’s FB worthy, bu definitely decant worthy.
The hubster made bacon and eggs this morning which was lovely. I’m working on laundry and brushing the Wild One today. She would probably rather I focus on the laundry. ?
Every time I see “Sorriso” I start craving chorizo, lol. Sounds like it smells yummy, though ?
I have Sorriso, it smells like chocolate and coconut on me, my husband loves it.
Remembering one of my first perfumes loves, so I am wearing 5 sprays of vintage Opium EdT. It reminds me a bit of the old Maja soap bars my mother sometimes bought.
You smell perfect. ?
I’m wearing Anima Vinci Rose Prana today, from a sample that came with their perfume course kit. The course is tomorrow.
The essences came in little screwtop bottles, and some leaked a bit. I have them wiped off and separated from one another now in the hope that the one that leaked will evaporate away. The kit also came with their discovery set, so I’d say it was very reasonable, regardless.
I did not post about the course here earlier because I got the email with what I thought was very little time to spare for delivery from the UK.
I tried one of their fragrances when the line first came out and thought it had too much spiky wood. I’m enjoying this Rose Prana very much, though.
What fun! Is it a zoom course?
I think so — the login credentials came in a weird format that I’ll deal with tomorrow.
Here’s the link to the website page:
https://animavinci.com/products/home-perfume-master-class?omnisendAttributionID=email_campaign_5e9fffa699f0b73df37f61b3&omnisendContactID=5cd1494918ecccdc072ab031&omnisendScopeID=5cd149408653ed3e50c94b1a_2_23313487&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Booster+of%3A+MC+30th+april+%285e9fffa699f0b73df37f61b3%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend
I also ordered a course from Auphorie, which not online and more expensive.
Sounds like a perfect covid-19 activity. Do report back!
Rose Prana is lovely, I ordered the sample set and ended up buying Wood of Life by Michel Roudnitska.
Good to know! I’m looking forward to working my way through this set.
Rose Prana and Jasmin Yang were my favourites from the sample set. Yasmin Yang is such a cheerful scent. I thought I was gonna go for Sesame Chan, but there you go.
Do tell how the course went if it was worth the time. Am considering taking it too event though I didn’t get the course kit.
Wearing Carnal Flower again today. I remember my first encounter with it years ago and how I felt it had such a big presence that it was all I could smell around me for hours. I wore it in small doses off and on. I am finally finishing my last of the three travel spays I bought in Paris a while ago and I no longer feel that it’s such a BWF.
I will order a replacement for sure. I hope it hasn’t been reformulated.
Robin, you smell great! I love Eau des Sens.
In other news, I found out that our malls are set to open on Friday (Atlanta metro area). We’ll see how that goes. Even though our restaurants and hair/nail salons have already gotten the green light to reopen, most are still closed it seems.
Texas is starting to open up, too. I’m in the at risk population, so will be sitting on the sidelines. I really hope we don’t have a flush of new cases in two weeks. ??
Yes this worries me too.
I cannot even imagine going to a mall right now. When the gardens open I will be very happy — we need more places to walk and see pretty things. Other than that I think like Nancyleandros we will be mostly on the sidelines even when things open up.
Our individual stores will open May 11 but no malls. Still no restaurants or hair salons (I am desperate for a haircut).
Joining you in the ‘desperate for a haircut’ group! My friend thought my hubby might be able to give me a trim for now.. Umm, no!
NJ is still far behind and even if it opens, I may also wait until the sidelines. For one thing, I don’t think I’ll feel comfortable trying on clothes. Also, walking around for leisurely non-essential reasons with a face covering on just feels wrong.
I was at one of my local malls shortly before all the stay at home orders and lockdowns happened in my state. It was eerie… not very many people were there, and some stores had already closed on their own initiative.
I don’t think I’m reading for going into a mall right now. Grocery shopping was relatively easy yesterday but still much more tiring than I expected it to be.
Why was it tiring Jalapeno? (Curious mostly because I am so hating delivery.)
This last trip was the first time that I found myself overheating while wearing my mask. As gorgeous as yesterday’s weather was, it made that mask uncomfortable. I took the mask off as soon as I was in the truck and doors were closed.
Day 2 of non stop rain. My house is leaking, and I called the insurance guy. He said he can probably get a guy out to put a tarp up, but it’s really hard right now to get people due to the lock down. I’m not even sure if this qualified for a claim yet. I hope so, even though I would have to come up with a deductible. I’m just really down today.
Sotd is Tobacco Vanille.
So sorry you have to deal with leaks in addition to everything else!
It seems like it would be easier to get people to do emergency repairs now with non-essential work on hold. I hope it works out for you after all!
Thanks. The guy just called and said he’s working with a skeleton crew and can’t get out today. Ugh.
I always have Edward Gorey-esque images of a crew of actual skeletons whenever I hear that phrase. I hope they send over real people tomorrow!
Lol! Me too.
I’m so sorry to hear that. A leaky roof is just the worst – it’s stressful and gloomy at the same time. I hope you can get it taken care of soon and with as little stress as possible.
You smell fabulous. Big hugs to you.
Thank you. I’m trying really hard to keep my eyes from leaking now. Lol… kinda.
Oh yuck, lillyjo. I’m so sorry you’re having roof problems. I hope you can get a tarp in place very soon.
Thank you! The rain slowed down for now.
maybe a little more Tobacco Vanille would help, it couldn’t hurt, could it? hope your day gets better. I haven’t perfumed yet today, so I’ll join you as scent twin. 😀 hugs to you
Happy to be twins with you!
So sorry lillyjo. That seems like essential work to me. I mean, they don’t really need a crowd of people to go up in a roof, anyway. I hope you can fet it fixed soon. There is something about leaks that I find particularly depressing (moreso than, say, no gas or heat or whatever).
Maybe it’s because you can’t really say “at least I have a roof over my head” with absolute confidence. ?… made myself laugh, lol
Oh, dear! I had to laugh along with that one, but my heart goes out to you. I hope you’re able to get a quick repair.
Haha!? Good point!
Oh, what bad luck, sending good vibes your way, It’s a lot to deal with, I hope the repair will happen soon and that you are covered.
On the plus side you smell delicious, TV is my latest purchase.
Nice purchase! Once my decant is gone, I hope to get a travel spray. I dab it on, so it’s lasted me quite a while.
That sounds very gloomy and no wonder you feel low. I hope you get help soon with the roof and the sun comes out.
Thank you!
I blame snow.
That snow ruins everything!
wow.
wishing for the rain to stop
Thanks. It stopped for now, but will return tonight.
Thinking of you lillyjo, that is just hard.
Thanks Robin. I feel like all bad and stupid things should be put on hiatus until we get through this pandemic. That seems fair, right?
Yeah, you sure would think so!!
Oh no! I’m so sorry lillyjo! We’ve had water in the house before and that also stinks! Hope someone can come fix it soon!
I have some water in the basement as well, but that is not covered because you have to have special insurance for that because almost every house in Michigan has water in the basement.
What a bummer. Sending you fragrant hugs!
I accept! Thanks!
Oh no! I hope you get your roof fixed (like yesterday)!
Thank you!
Oy vey! When it rains it pours! I hope this gets resolved pronto! I sure hope it’s covered. Also, fingers crossed the company will forgive the deductible – perhaps it would not hurt to ask?
This is why you are in my life! I never would have thought to ask, but will now if it gets to be deemed covered. Thanks ?
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that your roof is leaking. Hope you can get a tarp on it ASAP! Hugs.
Thanks! Maybe I can borrow your roofers!
Good Luck lillyjo, that is real inconvenience that you certainly don’t need right now.
Nice picture!
SOTD = Gucci Guilty Pour Homme EDT Love Edition
This would be the anti rabbit hole fragrance … not bad but Abby should I settle for not bad? On the bright side, the color of the bottle is nice. I had since covered this up with Guerlain Eau de Guerlain EDT, surprisingly chewy, almost animalic and minty!

Back to work!
I am interrupting work to mention that having just brought the mail in, I saw an envelope that looks like an electronic check from the sub-acute rehab facility that had to reimburse all the out-of-pocket expenses paid for my mom’s stay there. It is currently in mail quarantine but I will say it is definitely one step in the right direction (3 months late)… now I’ll need to check if the amount is what the administrative judge ordered based on the bills and proof of payment I presented as part of evidence. It’s a good Mother’s Day gift for mom but I wish she were here.
congrats on that bit of happy news via the mail. and yes to Eau de Guerlain! it’s a winner, mintiness and all.
Thanks. Now I have to wear Eau de Guerlain without the layering effect from GGPH Love Ed!
I hope you find everything in order with the check.
I hope so too … the judge’s orders could not be any more clear but we’re talking about the place that did not do their homework when I met with them to go over details of charges while mom was still there. They’re lucky I did not sue them.
Crossing fingers that you got a check for the full amount! It won’t bring your mom back but it will at least represent a bit of justice.
Thank you. I have been seeing a lot of Mothers’ Day specials and feeling very wistful.
*Hugs*
That’s great news about the reimbursement. I hope it’s the right amount.
And that bottle ?
I hope so too! And yes, the bottle!
Fingers crossed that everything is in order with that check. I’m not at all hopeful about a Sephora order I placed recently for some hair care products. Potential delivery date is May 15, assuming the items I ordered are still in stock by then.
I didn’t know you had this. Did you get the Pour Femme version too? I thought it was pretty nice.
I just got it actually from the Sephora sale. I liked the Pour Homme much better on paper…plus green bottle!
Love the green, green bottle!
It’s a very nice green IMHO.
Late to the party…
Wearing Siberian Musk attar, by Areej le Doré
Quite busy with work these days. But no work for me next Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday….. Thats Like a mini vacation ?…well…staycation of course
I have something from Areej le Doré that I love. Too lazy right now to go check the name, but I love that brand. Enjoy your staycation!
I have Plumeria di Orris, my only Areej le Doré. How nice you get a staycation!
I apparently slept through a tremendous thunderstorm this morning that had all my friends talking about how scared their poor animals were. I had insomnia again last night and once I fell asleep, I stayed asleep! It’s very refreshed out today and bright and sparkling. I’m giving Zoologist’s Sloth a try today. It’s not bad, though not to my taste as much as Squid was yesterday. Sloth is green, sweet, and spicy. I get a lot of chamomile and lavender, a bit of jasmine, and whatever that spice is. It has cumin but I really can’t detect it. It’s airy. It reminds me of Dodo which is more ferny and not of Elephant, which I prefer. I think people who like green scents ought to give this one a try. The notes include açaí berry but I don’t know what that smells like, so can’t comment.
the smells of Sloth, Squid, Dodo! only in perfumeland does all this make sense. 😀
I used to have a acai berry lotion. I don’t think I could compare the smell to anything, but I really liked it.
well..good for you for staying asleep…
Three cheers for being able to sleep through the night! I know what a treat that can be. And I really need to just buckle down and sample the whole Zoologist line — pretty much every single one sounds worth sniffing, even if they don’t all wind up being my thang.
You could have your 4 yo pick your sample of the day and learn about the animals at the same time!
I’ve had teas with acai berry in them, and I thought that they smelled similar to cranberries.
SotD = Tobacco Vanille
Joining lillyjo in TB today. Love this scent! It’s a heavy hitter in a good way. I wonder if Irrfan Khan would have enjoyed it too. I think so, and I think I’ll watch Life of Pi or The Namesake today.
Last week I twisted the cap on my l’air du desert marocain mini too hard and cracked it. D’oh! Yesterday my nose noticed the bottle had leaked a bit. I cleaned up the leak with a handkerchief which now smells beautiful. Just the thing for huffing when I have virus anxiety.
The laddm bottle is evaporating, boo. I’m going to pour what’s left, just a few mls, into a small bottle of jojoba oil. Fingers crossed it smells nice.
Have a wonderful Whateverday, fragrant friends.
ha! TV not TB! I’m ok, I had my mantoux test last year. 😉
Lol!, yeah, don’t think I want to be twins in tb.
Have you watched Lunchbox? That, and The Warrior are my two favourite Irrfan Khan films.
have not seen either Lunchbox or The Warrior. I’ve added them to my watchlist. 😀 thank you! didn’t watch Slumdog either, gosh I’m behind on films.
Lunchbox would be a perfect movie at the moment: gentle and nourishing!
Oh yes ?The Lunchbox is so wonderful!
Oh no! I hope you were able to salvage. That said, I tend not to go to my bedroom while I’m working because if I were to be in the office, would I have access to my bedroom? In any case, I went up to collect garbage and I just thought to myself that my bedroom smells like a good niche perfume boutique. I hope it’s all the therapeutic doses in the past 6 weeks and not leakages ?
yep! was able to get laddm out of the little bottle into the jojoba oil, now it’s marinating nicely.
i’m sure your nose would let you know if something was leaking, mine sure did. 😀
That’s a shame about your LAdDM bottle! I hope you were able to save most of it.
a fair amount evaporated before I realized what was up, then a little more leaked, but I had enough to pour into the jojoba oil. it will be a nice moisturizer, and honestly I always wear laddm in tiny doses anyway, so even diluted in oil it’s all good. 😀
Olfactive Studio Rose Shot for today.
Ohhhh boy do you smell AMAZING!
I love that one, and can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Wow I wish I could sit by you all day Lucasi.
Delicious.
Wearing Kyse Pêche au Yuzu with spritzes of OJ Champaca on top. This works nicely. I’ve been enjoying peach a lot recently. The Kyse might be too much peach, so layering it will be a fun experiment.
That one looks so good!
This morning I decided I needed some spine stiffening, so I went for a mean green. Jean Louis Scherrer. It’s wonderful, and my day, although ridiculously busy was much better than yesterday.

Hi there. I saw you had a bad day and thought this might cheer you up…knowing you are a translator. It is the first book ever created in NZ and was written by a Anglican missionary (Thomas Kendall) , intended as an instruction book for the Maori children at his missionary school which opened in 1816. Of course, Maori was not a written language prior to the arrival of the Europeans so the translations are based on how well Kendall heard and understood speech ( which was a bit hit and miss) and dependent on the help he received from Maori themselves. Anyway, thought you would be interested to see the book.
Thank you so much, I’ve saved the link on my laptop. I’m going to explore it at my leisure this weekend.
Feeling much better today.
So many languages disappear all the time, so even if this is not very accurate it is so valuable.
I just love how diverse languages are. Even between closely related languages like English and Dutch it’s fascinating to study the differences.
It is interesting how the Tahitians brought here by the early Europeans could communicate with Maori, and vice versa. I think this still holds true for Cook Islanders…but would need to check. Language migration is fascinating
I’m glad you’re doing better today. Thank goodness for spine-stiffening fragrances! I usually reach for either No. 19 or Cuir de Russie on those occasions, depending on whether I need to project “I am a glorious island entire unto myself” or “You are disconcerted by your attraction to my magnetism and intellect,” respectively.
My go to tends to be Aromatics Elixir, I have the extrait of Cuir de Russie, which does nothing at all for my spine, but is utterly decadent and delightful.
No.19 is another great spine supporter.
Ha ha — Aromatics Elixir is one of my “mating call” fragrances, along with Sous le Vent.
Another sunny autumn day here, this must the longest period of settled weather I’ve experienced – living on an island means very changeable weather. I’m starting the day in Annick Goutal’s Heure Exquise, this far into our lockdown, I’ve now worn nearly every FB I have. It’s been an interesting exercise to go through so many perfumes in what is really quite a short period, although it certainly feels as if it’s been forever.
I love Heure Exquise. I remember so vividly the day I smelt it for the first time. I had blind bought it on ebay. I sprayed it on, and I was just hooked and I still love it just as much.
Time passes differently in these times, I find. Read an interesting article about your prime minister who seems to be handling this situation really well.
We have had beautiful weather down here, too. I hope your mum is doing well. You must miss her.
The trees outside are now cornflake yellow and just seem to glow . I have several perfumes that I think of as yellow: Lale, Gabrielle, Ostara, L’eau Mohelle, Pohadka so I am dipping into them. Fast food chains have reopened for contactless purchases and yesterday everywhere I walked (hill, lookout, graveyard, park) was littered with McDonalds packaging and paper cups. There was also a dumped washing machine off the side of the road. It is so sad that the added freedom comes with such disrespect of nature. I guess the good news is that there are only six people in hospital with Covid 19 in NZ , and only 2 new cases yesterday…we have had no new cases down here for 11 days. Time to get up!
It has been so well handled in NZ. It will be interesting to see how the epidemic evolves when your lock down stops.
I think of Ostara as yellow too. I like color-scent associations very much, most of my perfumes read as shades of yellow, green, blue, purple, almost never red and orange, a lot like my clothing choices, LOL.
Agree about the trash problem, it is so disrespectful. I live near a very large urban/suburban park and nature preserve. Food is banned in the preserve to limit trash and protect the animals there. But in the past there was so much picnic litter in the park areas, mostly water bottles and food wrappers. Now those are gone but there are masks and gloves on the ground instead. And sadly the squirrels, birds, and waterfowl are clearly hungry, almost agressive in their begging, which goes to show how often they were fed by park-goers or feasted on food left behind. Sigh.
Your perfume matches to the trees sounds lovely. But, yes, sad about the litter. I can’t say I notice more here, just different litter- lots of discarded disposable gloves. On the up side, the air smells so much cleaner with the massive reduction in traffic (ground and air).
Kanuka, the long lines at fast food restaurants in NZ made the news here!
I’m in L’Ombre Dans l’Eau today, and my four-year-old is a fan. He gave the back of my neck a thorough sniffing earlier, and announced, “Whatever THAT is, it’s REALLY GOOD!” Working from my back patio today, with just an extraordinary amount of birdsong to keep me company. It’s like the dawn chorus got going and then never waned.
What a sweet perfume compliment!
aw, that’s fantastic, kudos to your mini perfume lover! 😀
He refers to the hall closet, which is where most of my perfume collection lives, as “The closet where you decide what you’re going to smell like today.” Melts my heart!
What a cutie!
😀 😀 😀
oh my heart!
Very cute! It sounds like he makes you smile. 😀
So cute and quite a sophisticated nose he has!
No rain here today again (yay!), but clouds have rolled in so it’s back to grey skies. The roofers in my development are keeping on with roof replacements… they’e done 5 buildings so far. They’re going to be here for a few months.
SOTD = Mon Guerlain EdT, from the sample stash and Hajusuuri. I like it, but it is very quiet on me. That’s fine, since I am not up for big honking fragrances at this time.
ha! there’s a special place in heaven for roofers (such hard work!) and people who are patient with all that noise. 😀
and oooh, you reminded me that a special someone from perfumeland sent me something Mon Guerlain, can’t recall if it was a perfume sample or perhaps lotion? must find it!
Those roofers are surprisingly quiet doing what they are doing. Granted, the building they are currently working on isn’t close to mine. But their noise is far less intrusive than a leaf blower or an obnoxiously loud car stereo.
We had drainpipe cleaners up on the roof last week or the week before just before the big sweeping rain. Yesterday, there was a knock on the door and it was the property manager letting me know there may be a little bit of a racket and to not be alarmed as a minor repair will be made to a portion of the siding.
Good timing for those guys to have cleaned out your gutters and drainpipes!
Good luck with your roof! Ours was done about a year ago so I can sympathize; hope it doesn’t get too noisy!
Did you open up your Ginger yet?
I haven’t opened the Ginger showergel yet. I am debating what to use next, though, and right now the choice is between Korres Fig or more Rose Jam.
Nice to be spoiled for choice, isn’t it! According to my shower gel stash, I don’t have the discipline to finish one bottle before moving onto another?
Late to the party but SotD EldO Vierges et Toreros with some Akro Dark.
My only other work for this year, project managing a show meant to premiere this fall, is officially pushed back to spring 2021.
Going back to school in the fall is starting to feel more like a good idea…
I am hearing rumours that some universities are thinking about not opening this fall… perhaps only online?
Honestly if the courses go online so much the better for me, as it would give me more flexibility to continue my training and potentially still be able to perform in 2021 if shows do start playing again!
Or at least leveraging free online courses
Oh my heart, I would love that, but what I want to specialize in is a bit niche… Stage/tour management and artistic coordination for contemporary circus. Not many free courses available and even project management courses and certifications tend to be a bit on the pricey side.
I have 4 years of experience with smaller companies doing this work, already but would like to fortify my credentials.
The program I’m looking at is executive production in creative industries – a bit above what I’m looking to do really, but in terms of really understanding how to draw up budgets, timelines and do project management etc would be a big step up.
We’ll see!
My day off today so had to get in a bunch of errands in and some laundry. I went to the pharmacy to get more Pepcid which I use on a fairly regular basis. I asked my hubs to do it the other day because I saw them note it in a news story about possible mitigating effects on covid and so I told him to go get it right away because I only had a few left (and my cat is also on it now:/ ) and I was afraid people were gonna go hogwild and stockpile. He waited until the evening and there was one bottle of 25 tabs left (and 1/2 strength at that). So frustrating. I wish pharmacies had some way to control this kind of thing, but I guess they don’t. Anyway, 4 drug stores later and I found an 85 tab bottle.
I’m pooped, my nose bridge is raw and peeling from wearing a mask for 13+ hours at a time, and I’ll be super relieved when this is over!
Haven’t been wearing perfume at work because I can’t smell it through the double mask situation, so only on my off days, though now that my kitty has been officially diagnosed with asthma and is on steroids for now, I have to be judicious at home, too. But she’s worth it ?
Today I have on body products (Shikai Yuzu lotion) layered with Lush What Would Love Do solid from my last Lush order. I’ve tried the liquid perfume before and liked it. I think I don’t like the solid as much- it’s less fizzy and more syrupy smelling. Sometimes it kind of smells like pineapple juice to me- which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not what I was going for.
My other goodies from that Lush run are the hair salt spray which smells like a green neroli and is delightful, another Mi Casa es Tu Casa bar soap (the scent is The Smell of Freedom), another citrus bar soap, and the “New” (weird name since it’s not new anymore) shampoo bar which smells very spicy. These days the best part of my day is a long hot shower as soon as I get home so nice to be surrounded by good smells.
I could look here for pepcid. I don’t think we’ve heard about the mitigation factors yet.
Your new bath goodies sound great!
They are doing trials in some hospitals here with IV megadoses.
I’m set for now. My cat only needs a quarter tab and I don’t take it every day, myself.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/04/27/health/famotidine-coronavirus-northwell-trial/index.html
Bath goodies are making me happy. I really wish we had a bathtub in our apartment…
Shikai Yuzu cousins – I have the shower gel and love it! I need to check out the body lotion.
I used to use the shower gel in my hand soap dispenser. I adore the smell! The lotion scent lasts about an hour. I find it to be a nice layering agent.
I can’t wait until our Lush opens again so I can go smell American Cream. I always thought you referring to your conditioner when you mentioned it as your sotd but then I went on their website and see it’s actually a perfume, lol.?
I would’ve worn the conditioner, too, lol.
As soon as I heard the news about Pepcid I ran to the pharmacy to get a couple of bottles because my dog takes it twice a day. No luck. I have been to different places and all of them are out of stock. Frustrating and the vet doesn’t carry it because it is an over the counter medication. I just wonder how many pills people are taking now since it is supposed to be a high injectable dose. Are they taking half of the bottle at once? Of course not and a regular dose is not enough to “fight” the virus. In the mean time they are affecting other people and animals that really need it. Common sense has been completely lost. Dangerous!
Oh, no! I can send you some! I can actually go pick up a bottle for you since the drug store that had it is in my neighborhood.
I agree! People are losing their minds. They just hear a little piece of information and go crazy.
Is your kitty on an injectable steroid, or an inhaled one?
Neither. They put her on oral prednisolone, though I have to say, I don’t think it’s helping all that much just yet. She’s still coughing/wheezing. Fortunately it was never a daily thing. It has gotten more frequent since Spring rolled around. They also told us to get an air purifier, switch to a different litter, no perfumes, candles, incense, etc. Just, ya know, change a few things ?
Cool day, so wearing Guerlain Encens Mythique…
This is not the first perfume that pulled me down the rabbit hole, but it definitely drew me in more. I am in Profumum Confetto. I get a lot of vanilla and there’s plenty of sugar, too, but it never makes me feel that it is too sweet, for some reason. I do get compliments on it, so I guess no one thinks I smell like cotton candy!
Crazy busy day! I sprayed on Chanel No 5 edp from a sample.
I got the go-ahead from my supervisor to put the final touches on one of my projects that I put so much work into! It’s a good day!! Woo hoo!
My tulips are looking very happy and my Bleeding Hearts are starting their show. Plus I got my Lisa Eldridge lippies and cosmetic bags delivered today. Celebrating everything with a nice lemon cooler!
Congratulations on your project! Still no leaves or flowers here, but we made it up to 21C today, woot! Of course it will drop back to 10 and rain, but still, it was fun. 🙂
Oh, 21 is great! Enjoy the warmth☀️
Congratulations! I love bleeding hearts. So,pretty, and we don’t have them down here. Do you get lilacs later too?
Thank you! It was a ton of work. So glad it’s done!
Yes, we get lilacs blooming a bit later; probably in late May but everything seems a bit behind. Luckily, my neighbor has a huge one that I can enjoy!
Congrats on seeing the end of your project! ?
Thank you! I’m very glad to see the backside of it?
First really nice day this year, went for a bike ride, hallelujah! Wearing Guerlain SDV over patchouli lotion.
Oh nice! I look forward to a decent bike ride.
Definitely some SMELLY news here. One Swedish town’s attempt at crowd control in a local park:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/29/swedish-city-lund-dump-tonne-chicken-manure-park-deter-visitors-coronavirus-lockdown
Just saw that! Great idea.
I think my bedtime scent may be Comme des Garcons Leaves: Lily, which is a very pleasant lily-of-the-valley. That was one that contributed towards me going down the rabbit hole. 🙂 The lily-of-the-valley leaves are up in a couple of shady spots in the yard. Hopefully the pink ones will have some flowers this year. I think they get too much competition from tree roots where they are.
Well, I didn’t go to a grocery store today, thank goodness. Mom and I went for a walk in a local park in the afternoon. She said she was getting a little stir-crazy and needed to get some air. It was windy, but hadn’t started raining. It rained a bit on our way back.
I got the jasmines and scented geraniums I had ordered from Logee’s, and unpacked them. I’ll see how they do. I’m happy that I managed to plant a lot of bulbs yesterday. Mainly it was lilies, which I’d been wanting to get around to planting. Also I planted some freesia bulbs in pots. I’ll bring the pots inside or cover them with burlap if the temperature goes way down.
Late post again. Yet more samples arrived today (this time: Strange Invisible Perfumes). Just sniffed a couple… no opinions formed yet.
Spent most of the day in Masque Milano Luci ed Ombre. Love.
Now in Shalimar Soufflé Intense. Also a touch of orange/clove from a new body scrub.
