It's Monday, supposedly, and National Doctors’ Day — thank you, doctors and healthcare workers everywhere! (#StayHome) Birthdays today: Vincent Willem van Gogh, Eric Clapton, Tracy Chapman. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying to wake up (I got a bit too involved in The Mirror & the Light last night) in Kerosene Black Vines.
Reminder: April is Poetry Month. On 4/3, tell us about a favorite poem (or link to the text) and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My city has split each department so that half the staff are working at home and half are at work. This is my week at work, which is great, since I have a lot to do this week. Today I’m wearing Hyacinth and a Mechanic for the first time.
We also have our first Covid-19 case reported.
Remind me what part of the world you are in?
I live in Polk County, Texas, which is a rural county north of Houston.
Good luck getting it all done PriscillaE, and stay safe!
Oh my goodness, PriscillaE, I am so envious of your Hyacinth and A Mechanic wearing! I have wanted to try this since I first read about it – I love hyacinths/bluebells, the back story is great & the name is just genius. Was so disappointed that’s it’s not one carried by Tauer stockists here in the UK. Once the world has returned to some semblance of normality I may make more of an effort to try to smell it in the flesh.
Stay safe, PriscillaE!
All week I will do poems from my book The Erotic Spirit: An Anthology of Poems of Sensuality, Love, and Longing by Sam Hill.
Song by Tzu Yeh
4th Century China
–
Winter skies are cold and low,
With harsh winds and freezing sleet.
But when we make love beneath our quilt,
We make three summer months of heat.
SOTD Huile Douce body oil by Chanel.
Looking forward to the rest of the weeks poems!
Ok! I will pick some good ones
Love your poem idea. I’ll be looking forward to them each day! ?
This book has traveled with me every where
I had to head to Chanel to check out that oil. Does it have a scent?
From the website
This exceptionally sensorial oil combines citrus notes and White Musk with a Jasmine floral accord to subtly scent hair and skin.
How do you like the oil? I got sample bottles of the 4 Chanel body oils that came out a year or so ago…I think the scents are Rose, Jasmine, Vanille and Orient.
While I liked them all, I wasn’t wowed by any of them. I am curious if anyone here tried them and what they thought. Maybe I need to revisit and try them out again.
I like this one, but its so expensive I would never buy a full bottle.
I only brought this out because of the poem..I figured rolling around the sheets would equal glistening wet oil like skin. 😉
lovely poem! yesterday i started reading a collection of Rumi poems, some of them are rather steamy 😉
I have some in this book also
Share your steamy one , if you want (or dare!)
ha! I will give it some thought . . .
I wore Shalimar yesterday in your honor, and it was lovely! Happy Belated Birthday!
I didn’t Tzu Yeh, so thanks to you I’ve learned something today.
Did you like it? I have more
I did 🙂 looking forward to the others.
In winter I end up with two dogs trying to get under the quilt after I let them out in the morning. Nothing says sexy like two dogs with wet fur trying to hog the covers!
????
Love this
Happy belated Birthday! Sorry I missed Shalimar Sunday, but thought of you. Hope you had a nice celebration at home!
Lovestosmellgood, I’m sorry I missed your birthday. I hope it was full of love and light, and that the upcoming year is full of joy.
And wow, love the poem!
I haven’t smelled that Chanel oil, but it sounds pretty dreamy. And thanks for the poem! Speaking as a woman quarantined 200 miles away from the man in her life, even the chance to create *one* month of summer heat sounds like an impossible, winning-lottery-ticket level dream. But it’s ever so nice to think about.
I am sorry you are separated from your lover.
Maybe you can send him this poem..
I have more poems for you that have to do with love & longing
Happy Belated Birthday! Hope it was a good one!
Was up too late last night reading about the stimulus package that we are supposed to get. It looks like a bottle of Coromandel might be in the near future. My work schedule has changed a little bit, my shifts are a little shorter but still the same days. I am wearing Kyoto to work today.
Ooh, you smell lovely. I just got a decant of that one.
Coromandel or Kyoto? Both or wonderful.
Both are! I just got a decant of Kyoto, but have one of Coromandel too.?
I hope you get your bottle, Dawn.
?? On your math and the Coromandel. ❤️
The money has to be in my bank account first before I get a bottle.
I’ve been considering a bottle too!
The edp might not be as good as the edt but I have been wanting a bottle for a while.
Good to know!
Adulting today in Omnia.
I need to invest in a bull whip to snap in front of people who get too close. People, GET BACK!
The comments this weekend! Amazing! ?
Deva, you are GORGEOUS!
?Haha- Thank you, but it’s just the Instagram filter and strategically posing to hide my triple chin.
I take it you’re back to work? Stay safe!!
Yes, with a bunch of people tailgating me! I’m gonna brake check every last one! ?
Omnia!
Love it
We’re Omnia Loving Twins! ?
Really getting tired of all the adulting, I think it is what is making all the days run together.
No kidding! I feel the urge to get down on the floor and have an adult sized temper tantrum ?
yes to a bull whip! at the grocery store last week a random woman walked up to my mother (she’s 75 years old but looks much younger and is very capable) and this stranger began ‘helping’ mum put her groceries on the checkout counter. Um, WHAT the WHAT? no, no, no, no touchy other people’s stuff please!
Holy cow. Did she (or you, if you were there) manage not to screech at said stranger? Not sure I could have resisted – what gall.
yes, mum spoke up right away!
There seems to be a lot of pushy people with respect to grocery checkout belts lately. WTH?
EXACTLY!
Now I know what those once-fashionable decorative walking sticks were for!
I did my rounds …
Someone got thisclose to me while Inwas picking ginger and I was going to yell at her but I don’t think it would not have done any good.
At Whole Foods someone, started to put his stuff while my order was still being checked out and a store worker called out to him and told him he cannot do that. Also, I saw someone wearing a mask except his nostrils were above the top of the mask – oy vey what is the point?
At Walgreens, there were giant spots with shoeprints 6 ft apart. Obvious, no? Clearly, some people have not gotten the memo. When someone got too close to me, I just turned around and have her the death stare which had the desired effect.
A big hoopskirt would be handy for distancing…
LOL! 😀
Good idea!
I love the 6 feet distance rule… can we keep it forever please?? The idiots walking towards me on the sidewalk, looking down at their phones, has completely stopped!!
I wish we could make the 6’ rule permanent too! I don’t want to hear about your last contract, your last boyfriend, you last husband, your kids, or your best friend who slept with your husband/boyfriend/SO. I’m here to give/get report only. Otherwise, don’t talk to me. And GET THE H*** BACK! ?
Will have to be a mighty wide one. I have to say I misjudged 6 ft. myself.
go, death stare! 😉
I like the marks on the floor, that seems to work best for most people.
I totally do the death stare, too. Oh, wait. I think that’s my normal expression ?
LOL, now how did I know that?
Order two bull whips and send one to me! I put a sign on my desk to stay 6 feet away. ? Love your pic!
Love the picture Robin!! What a perfect time for National Doctors Day!
All my respect appreciation and gratitude goes out to the medical Industry today.
I am in Dryad, a good dose of it and am wafting in narcissus.
What A Great IHeart concert last night. It hard to pick a favorite performance. I laughed I teared up, I smiled. So fun.
I love videos posted here over the last few days too.
Stay well all. Stay positive.
I loved Alicia’s PURPLE piano.
I did not even know about the IHeart concert, glad it was great!
And you smell amazing!
Thank you!
It’s on my DVR!
Tam Dao.
The sun is back out and it’s supposed to hit 50 here today!? I’m going to shower and head out for a walk. Desperately in need of some vitamin D after a dreary work weekend.
I think I’ve talked my husband into burgers on the grill tonight.?
Grilled burgers sound great! The weekend was gross here too, still cloudy right now.
mmmm, Tam Dao 😀 you smell wonderful. A sample of Tam Dao sits on my desk so I can give it a long sniff whenever the urge hits.
Thank you for mentioning your plans for a walk. I’ve been waffling over what to do this morning. I think I need a bike ride more than anything else right now. Sunshine is a better pick-me-up than cookies (or cocktails) before noon, lol.
You smelled great today! Hope you for vitamin D and burgers!
SotD = Shalimar Souffle de Parfum
Thank you to healthcare workers of all stripes. We need you!
Monday, supposedly? HA! Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt. Let’s pretend it’s Tuesday.
The days blend together anyway. I’ve got that vaguely dissociative feeling from childhood: I’m swimming in an endless river of time, punctuated with increasingly distant thoughts like “wash your hands for 20 seconds” and “six feet of distance would be lovely” and “don’t touch your face.”
From an almost empty decant, thank you to the lovely NSTer who shared this version of Shalimar with me. I like it quite well. I’ve only tried a handful of the many many Shalimars, but each one was beautiful, even if it wasn’t something I could wear with ease.
Have a lovely almost-Tuesday, fragrant friends. Don’t touch your face!
I keep forgetting to not touch my face. My eyes especially.
I’m the same. My eyes are slightly itchy from pine tree pollen in the air so it’s a constant battle to keep my hands away. I keep a pile of clean handkerchiefs and, yes, a box of precious Kleenex on my desk. Sigh. 😉
I have lots of allergies too, so I decided I need a veil. I bought some pink tutu stiff stuff, I don’t know what you call it, and a yard of some very pale pink very cheap chiffon, and I am going to make a veil like a mosquito netting veil and wear it over a cap with flowers on it, it will hang down to the middle of my torso, and remind me not to touch my eyes, and be weird enough looking that it should encourage people to stay away..I will wear the regulation mask under it. Plague fashion, you see. 🙂 I looked at black but it was just too much. I can spray it down with the 91% isopropyl alcohol I have for purification every time I wear it.
I really really really do not want to catch this virus.
I love this plan, and hope you might post a selfie of it!
excellent! a veil is proper plague fashion 😉
Excellent. I think the fabric is tulle. I have or used to have orange and yellow and white (I made a candy corn outfit) tulle.
I think this is a wonderful idea!
I have been wondering if medieval and Middle Eastern veils and head coverings grew out of the plague years, or general prevalence of nasty diseases like leprosy.
And suddenly looking weird is very appealing!
You smell lovely
How do you like that version of Shalimar
The bottles are gorgeous
I want the orange version
thank you, ltsg! I like Souffle very much. It’s definitely got Shalimar DNA but it’s more vanilla and a little sweeter to my nose, less smoke, less grrrowl. The bottles are fabulous, I especially like the colors on Souffle d’Oranger.
Have you seen D’oranger for sale anywhere?
haven’t seen d’oranger for sale anywhere at all. I think it was a mini-flanker that came and went quickly 😀
You are really curious about this one! Guerlain has a nasty habit of the boutiques not having a complete collection or at least all of the newer releases.
I read a tweet that said something to the effect of…
We used to have 7 days of the week…Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc.
Now there there are just 3…yesterday, today and tomorrow…
It’s all Blursday now…
LOL! 😀 😀 😀
An additional day… 😉
Exactly!
And HA HA!! I like that one.
Excellent!
that’s perfect! and funny and lovely and profound all at the same time. 😀 a good reminder that the present moment is all we ever have.
Agreed..it works on multiple levels. 🙂
Ha!
This safe island of time seems very complete.
You smelled great today!
I can’t believe I missed Shalimar Sunday yesterday! So in honour of that I’m wearing Shalimar Souffle Intense! My signature scent for years in university was Shalimar Legere (in the blue ombre box), but I didn’t realize it was discontinued until it was too late 🙁
I’m so grateful to the doctors and other healthcare professionals Huge Thank you to all of them!!
❤️ you smell lovely
Thank you and Happy Belated Birthday!
Oh geez I missed Shalimar Sunday too, sigh. Days are feeling murky. I looked at a clock and I had to ask myself it it was AM or PM. Lol.
Eau de Shalimar is nearly identical to Legere, but it, too has been d/c’d. Snap up a bottle if you can find one! It’s the only BUB I’ve ever bought 🙂
That is a good suggestion kpaint! I have this one too in hopes it would be just as good, but it just didn’t have the je ne sais quoi on my skin that the original one had!
I’d definitely recommend the new(ish) Shalimar Cologne if you’re missing your Shalimar Legere.
I will try this one for sure!
I’ve reached the part of social distancing routine where I’m digging around the corners of my perfume drawer for things I don’t reach for as often. Today I’m smelling great in DK Gold EDP and wondering why I don’t wear this one more.
Yep, you do smell great melissa!
social distancing, you’re doing it right. 🙂
Well, you picked a great one with Gold. I am doing the same thing myself, especially reaching for those that are too strong for the office, which means they don’t get worn often enough. I may wear Gold sometime in the next month (or more?) of social distancing.
Should we all do the same
scent as a BLursday CP in support of social
distancing ( and a ‘sniff in’ if you will!)
Shalimar seems like the easy choice as we saw with ltsg’s birthday yesterday.
It would be ?.
It’s a strange sort of opportunity but I’m glad to be able to take joy and comfort in my collection.
Oh Melissa you smell really good!
R.I.P Joe Diffie
https://youtu.be/vMiEFyTuuh8
Back in the early nineties, I took a detour from Rock n Roll into Country. Joe was one of the best!
Sotd is Gucci Memoire d’une odeur.
I read that but did not know of him.
You smell wonderful.
I remember a silly Blake Shelton song using his name in a rhyme!
Not Blake as being silly, but the song was funny.
Agree about Joe. Super sad.
Good morning!
Still in some traces of Sunday’s bedtime scent: Nobile 1942 Le Petit Chocolatier 1: Confiture. As I said in a late comment on the weekend post, the fruity chocolate scent is comforting to me. 🙂
It doesn’t look like it will be a nice day, but it’s not supposed to be very cold. I heard a lot of birdsong yesterday and this morning. We’ve been seeing a lot of cardinals at the suet feeder. We’ll see a male and then a female a little later, usually. The other day I saw five or six cardinals fly through the back yard in a little bunch.
Thank you to doctors, nurses and other medical people.
Also thank you to very hard-working grocery store employees and others who have essential jobs working with the public.
House twins 🙂 I’m in Cafe Chantant. Nobile 1942 decants are so HTF in the US 🙁 Bummer since they seem to make lots of good stuff.
I got the set of three Petit Chocolatier bottles from Luckyscent. I think it was probably around Black Friday — it would be in my last confession to Donatella or the one before that. 🙂 I thought it was a relatively reasonable price for the amount of perfume. They suggest layering one with another, but I haven’t tried that.
No cardinals lately in my area. But I think that the HOA doesn’t allow bird feeders, so that’s probably part of it.
Is that an abbreviation for homeowners’ association? You must have a strict set of rules. If they insist on the lawns being kept at a certain height, you’ll probably see robins, though.
I didn’t expect to go out today, but ended up going out to pick up a takeout dinner and a few groceries. Our usual grocery store now has sneeze guards at the checkouts to protect the cashiers, and tape on the floor marking the proper distance from others in that area. The cashiers are now wearing gloves, and so was I.
Shoppers seemed to be somewhat getting the idea. In general, I’ve noticed that I like to have more personal space around me than many people who live in the area, so it’s more relaxing for me when folks actually remember. Now I can tell people not to crowd me without having to worry a lot about being called rude for saying something. They might still think I’m rude, but I have an understandable justification.
I’m glad that grocery store workers are getting some safety measures put in place for them. I wish medical workers were assured of reliably getting the protective equipment they need. I’m sure you’re all with me on that. I won’t say more, or I’ll get political. Just assume I have [censored] Opinions about heads of state in various spots in the world, including here.
Time to go back to the puppy cams, and maybe go to sleep at a relatively reasonable hour. I wish you all the best as we try to cope with these strange times we’re living in.
I’m wearing some vintage White Linen, which is beautiful, and feeling very lucky.
I haven’t smelled that one in ages
Now I wanna smell WL..gosh an Estee sounds so good right now.
Working through the samples. Today is DSH Prince
I wore the Shalimar you sent me over the weekend. Gorgeous
It shouldn’t surprise you that its almost empty!
You smell awesome, Robin!
Wearing Imperial Tea by Kilian, but I will change into something else soon. I wanted to like it, but something in this scent does not suit me.
I thought I’d skip the poetry CP, but then I suddenly got inspired and found four poem/perfume pairings. I will start with them tomorrow. 🙂
Oh nice! I need to get working and find some happy poems.
Mine are mostly dark, I am afraid. Well, three out of four.
Look forward to your perfume/poem pairings!
I dug into my stash to find my Lush Silky Underwear bottle so that’s my sotd.
Oh yum, I should wear that this week.
I heard perfume companies are making hand sanitizers anyone know of a list of companies specifically? I ordered hand sani online two weeks ago and nothing, so just wondering if anyone knew anything.
Another day of feeling blah but enjoying my watermelon lime tea from Celestial Seasonings. Makes me want a huge bag of Jolly Ranchers.
Commando except for a dallop of Nivea.
Mugler sent me an email saying that they will be making hand sanitizer for French hospitals. It was from Clarins Group.
If that’s the same as the Clarins cosmetics company, then good for them! As I understand it, that is one of the only family-owned cosmetics companies left in the known universe, and I love the new excuse to continue supporting them.
Yes, same company. They recently sold Mugler to Loreal, but the deal hasn’t gone all the way through yet. If I had the money, I would just use Clarins skin care, they are really great.
Demeter is one.
I love the idea of a Demeter hand sanitizer! I hope they come in the weird scents.
Independent perfumers are using their supplies of perfume grade alcohol to make hand sanitizing sprays. Sarah Horowitz Parfums and Sigil Scent are two of them. 😀
Orris perfumery is also doing this.
fantastic! 😀
Wow some of the sanis are very expensive but some donate to charity, so that is good. Demeter is based outta NY not sure if packages from there would be ok or not..sigh.
LVMH, Estee Lauder, Bvlgari, Coty, surely more, are all making sanitizer, but they’re making it for the hospitals & whatnot, not for consumer sales.
In case anyone is curious, this is a list of who is doing what, so far…
https://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/designers/a31901094/fashion-beauty-companies-coronavirus-donation/
Thanks, Robin. 🙂 The bit about Estee Lauder reopening a factory sparked a memory for me. I remembered that Mom’s father and stepmother lived in Melville, NY for many years. You could walk to Herman Melville’s house from where they lived, which we did once.
It’s good to know that designers and luxury companies in hard-hit parts of the world are doing what they can to help their communities.
Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays, LVMH, Clarins Group, plus several alcohol distilleries are now making hand sanitizer.
Very busy day. Drinking tons of coffee and wearing Bvlgari Au the Bleu.
Hang in there pl67! Au the Bleu is an excellent choice ???
Trying my best Lillyjo. Counting the hours for the day to be over. ?
I have had 3 cups of tea so far
I don’t drink tea often, but I will keep you virtual company with my coffee. ☕
I love that one, you smell great PL67!
Thank you, Coin-op! It is a very nice and relaxing scent.
Monday is almost done!
Finally gone! It was a long working day!
I joined you today in the “tons of coffee” part lol.
No scent yet because I showered and used my Blanc Lilas body mousse, so I’m still enjoying that wafting. I’ll need to get some of the soap once the weather warms up…it’s my favorite soap for the summer.
A bit later I’ll add Equestrian, which arrived Saturday.
Just got a call from our doorman telling me our groceries have arrived. Problem: we didn’t order any. Oops. He double checked the bag…supposed to be delivered to the building across the street. Maybe I should have asked what was in the order before rejecting it…. (just kidding… ???????)
Those people are very lucky the groceries were delivered to you by mistake!
Ha!!! Couldn’t of been something yummy
I’m wearing Sonoma Scent Studio’s Wood Violet. Green, woody violet with whiffs of cinnamon. It smells very alive, which is good because we’re still buried under the snow here.
I live in Sonoma County but I’ve never smelled any of the Sonoma Scent Studio fragrances! I wish she had a storefront, or open studio days like Mandy Aftel does. So, I can’t confirm that you in fact smell good, but it sure sounds like you do! 🙂
Oh, I just bought a small decant of that one, it sounded so nice. What do you think?
You smell lovely no doubt.
Knew he’d already had serious health concerns, but am upset to hear about John Prine being in critical condition with COVID–ugh!!
A good one about the afterlife (though I hope he pulls through)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0EiV423j0M
Wearing Champs Lunaires to combat free-floating anxiety.
I heard about this last night. He’s defeated cancer twice, so he’s made of stern stuff. The version of Angel from Montgomery he does with Bonnie Raitt never fails to undo me. Let’s hope and pray for his recovery. ❤️
https://youtu.be/1T5NuI6Ai-o
I love that one and also Hello In There, they both bring me to tears.I feel like John Prine’s songs have been part of my life forever.Love you John!
And here is Joan Baez, in her kitchen yesterday. I could not listen to more than 2 seconds — I get why she picked Hello in There but I can’t.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJPvc5vvKY4&feature=emb_logo
I feel the same way. Thanks Robin.
Goosebumps.
I’m in Shalimar cologne again this morning since I so enjoyed wearing it yesterday. ❤️
Trying to kluge together ingredients for a small pan of lasagna. I have 2% string cheese mozzarella I could try to shred, and a jar of Alfredo sauce to sub for the ricotta. I’m definitely not experienced at lasagna. What do y’all think of these substitutions? Think they would work?
You smell great!
I’d add the mozzarella to your own roux, and add some veggies if you have them!
Hey, good idea. That might thicken it a little, cuz who likes runny lasagna? Thank you, Coin-op!
I would take some runny lasagna right now lol
You smell great!!!
It may not come out like lasagna, but all those ingredients are inherently yummy, so whatever you call it, it’ll taste good!
Do you have cottage cheese? That works, too.
Aha! I do have cottage cheese, and high protein cottage cheese at that. So, I can call it healthy now, right? ?
I hope your day has gone well, my friend. ?
I hope it turned out well!
Thanks and I hope you’re hangin’ in ?
Happy Monday all! Sampling Serge Lutens Rousse this morning, it pairs well with the stormy weather today. ☺️I quite like it, wish the smaller bottles were still available. I tend to mentally picture fragrances as a color and texture, usually a fabric. This one is like a brown, felted wool coat. It’s simple in design, no frills, but superbly tailored. Whereas say, Youthdew bath oil, is like a mink coat, fluffier and softer, if that makes sense. ?does anyone else do this mental imagery with scent?I will probably were something else after yoga/shower.
I do tend to associate perfumes with colors, but for me, Rousse is definitely red!
SOTM is SL Cuir Mauresque. We had about a week’s worth of rain overnight last night, and as soon as it let up I ran out to the deck and moved a pot full of succulents under an eave – hope they aren’t so soaked that they rot. I had JUST moved them out of the shed where I had them overwintering, so maybe they needed the moisture? Hope so, anyway.
Oh good luck! Apparently we had a spot of hail today but I didn’t even notice.
I’ve been swamped with WFH, which is perhaps a good thing except that I toggle between it and the news a bit too much for sanity’s sake. I did read the weekend’s wonderful posts, although I was too late to join in, per usual. So I’ll answer today!
I guess we are at a 4, although I am at a self-imposed 5. I was around a lot of people before school went into spring break who I thought might be carriers and at least two were, so I wanted to be sure not to make anyone else sick. I am fine as it turns out, and as a person who LOVES to be told to stay at home, have not found the constrictions onerous. We can go for groceries, medicine, and gas, which my husband has been kindly doing, although last week I got panicked about him. (He’s absolutely fine and being super careful.) When the sun is out I go out front! Otherwise a lot more Zoom than I care for, and phone calls, and generally trying to keep a facade of normal for those for whom that is important.
Robin, like you I was up too late with Hilary Mantel last night. That’s my treat at the end of the day, although I also think I am going to have to take a day off so I can just plunge into it for long hours, my favorite way to read.
Daffodils and crocuses (the latter just barely) are out. Lots of robins and some other birds I can’t identify.
I am horrified by the conditions in which medical workers are being asked to function in at least parts of the world and this country; tremendously grateful for them and for the grocery store clerks, truck drivers, and other service folks who are keeping necessities running, and sad and worried about those who have lost their jobs, or didn’t have jobs to start out with. We need to find better ways to take care of each other.
Even when I don’t have time to comment, this is a wonderful place to drop in and to get some insight to what is happening around the world, things troubling, sad, but also happy and always fragrant.
This country being the USA!
I missed your comment earlier Amy — so we are reading twins! It is more fun to read about some other dire time than to read about what is happening all around me, that is for sure 🙂
Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre, over some BBW Amber & Argan – smells great!
need sunshine.
In smelling my sample of Nahema over the weekend, I feel as if I have scent glaucoma with this one, like the scent is spotty and I only smell it in patches. First I smell what is very close to Chamade, then it goes, and a wet cigarette ash comes in, blech. The image of a dark lounge in the daylight appears, sun streaming into the darkly decorated lounge after last night’s party, red vinyl seats and ash trays with water. Anyway, other than fragrantica, where can you go to get more shared impressions of a perfume – I don’t see anyone getting the ash impression.
Nahema didn’t work for me.
isn’t it sad/strange when reading how it is beloved by so many?
I gave my perfume bottle away. It was a scrubber on me. Some people love it. For me there are so many other Guerlain I adore, why should I keep trying..
I haven’t smelled Nahema in ages, but I remember being surprised by how little I got along with it, considering how much I love some of the Guerlains.
Good morning, friends! What lovely magnolias. I’m in JS Fancy Love this morning, which smells like a basmati apple scent to me, though neither of those things is listed for it.
We woke up early to drop by our community garden. We haven’t gone in a month, and it was clear that no one else had either. We spent 30 min taking care of things and cutting down some leafy greens to bring home, but there is SO much more to do, and so many greens to harvest. Wish there were a way to connect people hurting for money/food to community gardens that are going untended. Normally, the garden does donate a lot of its produce to those in need, but I’m not in charge of that organization and I have no idea how to make this happen. Time to poke the people in charge, I guess?
I’m in an oddly buoyant mood, perhaps because my 10am meeting was canceled at the last minute. I hope it lasts!
Jealous of your buoyant mood, bet it is also from getting outside with growing plants!
We put in lettuce over the weekend, our first of the year. (Although by we I mean my husband, I had nothing to do with it except saying shouldn’t we be getting the lettuce started, ha.)
Yes I think you’re right 🙂 I’ve been making a point of going outside every day, if only for a few minutes, even when it’s raining.
Hooray for lettuce! We have some going but the #{*^=}/ squirrels keep digging them up >:o
Wearing Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black perfume oil today. Thanks to all the doctors out there,I know you aren’t stealing face masks and other PPE (per someone who will not be named) since you docs are too busy walking off with our (RNS) stethoscopes!
LOL!! Excellent.
I got extremely frustrated about something work related today. I am still wound up…urgh ?
But I try to comfort myself with the fact that
a) I have a job
And
b) i am healthy ll
?
Positive thing, the Siberian Musk attar (Areej le Doré) I ordered has arrived.
And I skyped with my mother today and seeing her was good.
I wore Eau du fier today (Goutal). Very nice, the smokiness reminded me so much of Bois d’Ascese but EdF is less sweet.
Sorry that today was crummy – tomorrow is another and hopefully better day
I’m also having an off day at work. At least there are birds outside my window and it’s time for me to log off.
I love teaching. I love my students. The adults can be such fools. Grrrrrr.
I’m glad your perfume shipped and you were able to talk to your mom!
I’m finishing Dewey the Library Cat today, I had wanted to read it when it first came out but it slipped my mind (for nine years!). The waitlist for library e-books is extraordinarily long these days.
I missed the concert last night, a favorite singer/songwriter of mine had one on StageIt at the same time so I watched him rather than Sir Elton, but then Call the Midwife was on, so all in all a lovely evening. Like SheriG said, it rained buckets last night but it has stopped for now, so I will hurry to get a walk in before it begins again this afternoon.
SOTD is Shanghai Lily. Hugs to everyone but an extra squeeze to anybody shoring up our ragged infrastructure these days.
oh, enjoy that story! 😀 I love Dewey.
I’m a big Hilary Mantel fan and Robin’s post reminded me that I never read the last of the trilogy. Time to rectify that once I finish The Silent Patient. While I’m enjoying the book plot, the writing is really not that impressive imho.
Coromandel today
I think Kanuka said she did not feel that drawn into book 3, but I am loving it. I did however take a break from it over the weekend to read a couple books from the Internet Archive National Emergency Library — things I had not been able to get from my own library and had wanted to read for a long time.
So last night I went back to Cromwell and ended up staying up until 1:30, very stupid.
Might be stupid but still satisfying I bet!
The TV version was also good if you haven’t seen that
I loved the TV version! Hope Rylance will be back to do the last volume.
My SOTD is hand sanitizer and soap with just a little Bengal Rouge peaking through.
Hope that the Bengal Rouge is helping.
Hi Jalapeno. I hope your you and your family are well. I read your post the other day but didn’t comment because it was a very long thread. I’ve been thinking of you.
Hi Petunia! Right now, everybody seems to be doing all right. Thanks for the well wishes!
For all you nurses out there. I just got an email from Universal Standard offering you a free t-shirt, camisole or body suit. it said to send a picture of your credentials to us@universalstandard.com . I’m not affiliated but I do have some of their T-Rex t-shirts (Deva) and they are great.
And I am wearing Sweet William from Carven. The house smells wonderful because I baked a brioche.
Brioche?
I will be right over.
Right behind you.
Yum! ??
Used up the last remnants from a sadly dried-up decant of Mon Precieux Nectar today. It’s interesting how some decants evaporate quickly and others don’t. I try now to get manufacturer samples when possible b/c decants don’t hold up too well.
Very grateful to doctors and healthcare providers fighting the good fight today and every day.
I love that one.
For some reason it reminds me of the little perfumes I got as a child. You know..they came in pink plastic containers. Can’t remember the name.
Tinkerbell?
YES!
I’ve been doing the same re: mfr samples for a few years for the same reason.
A quick one and then I’ll come back later. Day 11 of Work From Home and it looks like there’s going to be many more days of the same.
SOTD = Guerlain Lui
https://www.instagram.com/p/B-XdtY3BB9r/?igshid=22op9volp7k7
In other news, I now have to deal with a duplicate delivery of the items I was expecting last week. I hope they just say I can keep them which really means I’ll give them away!
Great photo..I could do a Guerlain week with you if you are looking for more participants. It just has to match my poem~
I welcome the participation but I am doing it the easy way which is just pondering what I want to wear without pairing it with a poem although I will have to think of what to do for Friday!
I can pair with poetry no problem
any idea how often Saks has that type of sale? I missed it!
It was the first time I saw a 25% off Beauty for Saks! I had previously seen $50 off $200 which is essentially the same but it is more difficult to hit $200 on the nose.
well, shame on me for not jumping on it!
You smell gorgeous, I love Lui.
Thank you. I should wear it more often.
LOL on the duplicate delivery! Maybe it’s making up for some past aggro in your life? ?
Ha! The past aggro was last week and the week before. I ordered 2 phone holders from WeatherTech and FedEx seemed incapable of delivering to a mail service. I was told that because the address has “Suite”, it must be a company and without the company name, they cannot deliver it. After speaking to 2 FedEx employees, I thought it would be resolved. 3 business days later, tracking was stuck in Delivery Exception. I called the seller and was told that FedEx will be notified to send it to my house instead. 2 business days later, tracking still showed an exception. I called again, and this time the WeatherTech Rep said it is not WeatherTech’s fault blah blah and I asked what happened to the request to redirect it to my house…and the rep got all huffy and asked me if I knew what was happening in the world. I gave back as good as I got and told her that this was the first time a rep pinned the blame on their vendor AND the buyer and she should be ashamed of herself. Anyway, the end result was I got my original order delivered last Friday and then another package, which I did not bother to open, on Sunday. I called WeatherTech again today and the rep said he will print out a label for the return and I can drop off the package. I said nope, not my fault, FedEx has to come pick up the package. At that point, the rep just said given what’s going on, I should just keep the extras. I’ll wait another month to make sure I wasn’t charged twice and then I’ll set them aside to give away either to my siblings or a freebie here or on Insta.
Robin, you must be enjoying The Mirror and the Light? I must give it another go now that my brain has settled down.
Wearing Chypre Mousse which is perfect for a drab, misty, drizzly Autumn day. The mornings are dark, sunrise around 8am , but we flick over to wintertime next weekend and put the clocks back an hour. Hibernation time!
Ha, I was just mentioning to yasmina above that you did not feel that drawn into book 3, but I am loving it.
The New Yorker review calls it “a bloated and only occasionally captivating work” so it is not universally loved!
Also from NYer: “I suspect that Mantel had already said everything she had to say about Thomas Cromwell in the first two books, but felt compelled—by her evident love for the character; perhaps, too, by the appetite of her audience for more—to doggedly follow the historical trail to its conclusion.”
I am glad you are enjoying it. I think my problem was with the pace. It is in the present tense with lots of dialogue so it has real forwrd momentum and I am more in the mood for long slow unfolding stories …Thomas Mann at the moment.
Which one?
Lotte in Weimar. I haven’t read it before.
I think we are both Edith Wharton fans?
Ah, well that would work — pretty sure Magic Mountain was the longest slowest book I ever read!
Oriza Legrand Chypre Mousse while going out to buy 20 cypress trees to plan in the garden.
What a coincidence! You and Kanuka posted within minutes of each other and you’re wearing the same scent!
Ha, yes! Didn’t see the post when I begun writing. I was also playing with my kid and it took me a few minutes to post it ?
I enjoyed Shalimar parfum de toilette so much yesterday, but went for something completely different today: l’AP Caligna which is very piney and aromatic and also comes with fig. This one is quite the shapeshifter on my skin.
Oh, I love Caligna! I only ever break it out in late summer, but I’ll bet it would be warmly transporting right about now. You smell shapeshiftingly great!
🙂 Thank you. So glad you love it too. For me too it’s usually more a summer perfume but I was in the mood for it
Late check-in!
Wearing Atelier Pacific Lime and so happy that Spring is really here!
yummy! that’s one of the best lime notes I”ve ever smelled in a perfume. 😀
Coming to you this morning from the home office! I was running a bit late over breakfast, but have now made the commute from the kitchen to the lounge. I’ve started the day in Rose Alexandrie, Armani Privé. It’s my idea of a lovely rose, not too sweet and not too green. Some of the greener roses are a bit sour to me.
Glad to hear your commute was without incident!
This made me laugh!
Lots of Jil Sander No4, now layered in the evening with JHAG Oil fiction. I smell super flowery, usually not my style, but I like it today.
First day at work again. Finally some masks arrived, just the plain surgical ones, but it will do for the momentm
That Jil Sander is one sexy beast!
Wishing your masks speedy travel! Like, light-speed ??
Adding in my thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and first responders. It’s another grey and dreary day here. Ugh. It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve seen the sun.
On the plus side, I just finished watching an episode of “The Best of the Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross. I used to watch him all the time as a kid, and was awed at how he could transform a few swipes of paint into a gorgeous landscape. His voice is so incredibly soothing that it probably should be classified as audible Valium.
SOTD = still commando. Still calming down from having my cage very thoroughly rattled last week. I am using perfumed lotion on my shins, though!
Haha!I need some audible valium,John Mayers will do.?
Too funny – I’ve been listening to a lot of John Mayer over the last two weeks!
It’s funny, he’s been on our local PBS station a lot late and I too have been drawn in. He is so gentle and encouraging and often quite goofy in what he says, but in a charming way!
I’ve bookmarked a few more episodes for later on this week. Looking forward to them!
Bob Ross! I have not heard the name in AGES!
“All the happy trees” ?
Yes!
I think Bob Ross’s second life is all about the audible valium part. My son loves him.
Wearing A ce soir (again) this one is fast becoming my new vanilla favourite.
Back from 4 hours of work, it is slightly more stressful than normally but everyone’s effort to overcome practical problems is heart warming.
The situation is fast becoming more serious in The Netherlands. I wonder how we will sail through this.
Yes, I think contemplating the worse case scenario is worse than actually working it. If you’re in it, you too busy to worry about it, if that makes sense.
The facility I’m at had their first confirmed covid19 death yesterday.
Very much so. Interestingly I was quite nervous when I picked up my work again last week, but now that I’m doing it, I’m fine. I’m careful, and I’ve most likely already had this blasted virus.
I just got a mail from a friend of mine, her husband is a family doctor/GP in the corona hotspot in The Netherlands. He has had a fair number of fatalities in his practice, but he seems to be coping quite well. Plus it seems that in that particular area, GP’s are over the worst.
Wearing Cuir de Lancome for a cool, grey day. Dragging a bit, guzzling coffee. I went to bed too late as I thought it would be a good idea to watch Badlands before bed. Great movie, but forgot how depressing it is.
You smell gorgeous today!
Thank you! It hit the spot.
Well Hi!
Worked half a day today.Someone in the comments mentioned their company split up personnel into 2 groups on and off,and that is exactly what we did as well.Great idea, just in case someone gets ill,it doesn’t affect our whole hospital team, which is in fact really small(about 15 medical personnel between the ward and operating room)
SOTD!
Organza.I needed to wear something that reminded me of opulence and a stress-free night on the town filled with Opera and an exotic dinner for two.
We’re hanging tough.Lockdown is not easy but I read this today:
You are not STUCK at home
You are SAFE at home.
Hell yes.
Stay strong my friends.
XO
Thanks for the reminder about STUCK versus SAFE! ❣
Even I tend to forget.Just the fact that I HAVE A HOME sould make me shut up and stop whining.
We were planning for the split workforce when the orders for all who can work from home should work from home until further notice.
Glad you’re safe, not stuck!
Good to hear from you, and to know you’re well ✌?
Thanks for the birthday wishes over the weekend and hope you are well
And now for something completely unrelated. I just finished watching a rather surreal video on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/rwhvFLHIlBs
Zakk Wylde (a heavy metal guitarist) playing an acoustic version of a Led Zepplin song on a “Hello Kitty” mini guitar. It’s wonderfully weird!
Cute! I have a soft spot for Hello Kitty.
The little headbanging Hello Kitty made me do a double take the first time I saw it in the video.
Well, I just love the juxtaposition in that video! Thanks for sharing, and hoping all is well with you and your family. ✌?
My brother started something new with his job, so he’s now fully immersed in that. I talked to my mom again today, and she was feeling OK.
oh gosh, that’s absurdly genius. 😀
Isn’t it?
Awesome! ?
Yep! ???
Hi everyone. I drew out my two bottles of Volutes today intending to compare EDP and EDT, but my one bottle sprayer got stuck in the cap. Help! Any ideas?
https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Xtq9vJgAK/?igshid=1ks0pw0igf0z2
No experience with Diptyque bottles, sorry. I wish I had some advice.
The only thing I can think of is a VERY SLIM pair of needle nose pliers…
This happened to me also
I have no idea. Some days I thinking fo just breaking the bottle
I think I remember Koyel mentioning a solution to such a problem
I’m embarrassed to admit that the interior cap with the sprayer had fallen on the floor and I found it later, so all is well! Now for the comparison. The EDP is much sweeter and smoother. The EDT has sharper edges. But they are both very beautiful.
Yay for no major perfume bottle malfunction after all!
I’m cranky and out of sorts today. I’m wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt which usually helps with this sort of mood. However, I’m still cranky so I’m just going to allow myself this feeling.
Biggest virtual hugs and hugest thanks to everyone who cannot self-isolate because they’re too busy saving the rest of us either from illness, starvation or anything else.
I’m sorry about the cranky mood. I think you are quite right to allow it. Soon enough the breeze will blow that cloud away and you will be bathed in sun again. ?
Sending you some virtual hugs
Hope tommorow is less cranky and brighter for you ?
Chanel “Sycomore” today, for a low-key day. Highlight was a trip to the supermarket 8 minutes’ walk away. The road passes the arroyo (dry stream; water flows only in exceptional rain) by our building, where the undergrowth was cleared away up during the Winter. This is because when it’s raining, you really want a clear path for the water to run off. Anyway, a side effect is that it is now full of wild flowers, mostly boring yellow-flowered rapeseed or similar, but there were red and purple poppies in the mix that made me happy. Also the local bindweed has mauve flowers which looks pretty if you’re used to the plain white of Irish/ UK bindweed.
Here’s a nice list of free resources during the Covid-19 crisis – covers education, music, health… It’s from Ireland but the links include many that are international. (Also, the Irish ones may be available internationally, I haven’t tried them so there may not be any address limitations):
https://covid19.shanehastings.eu/giveback/
Hope everyone is keeping well. I am finding it difficult to concentrate during work hours, but I make up for it by extra work in the evening – it’s not like I have anywhere else to be. :^)
That sounds like a lovely walk, I am jealous.
And nice link, thanks!
SotD a generous application of soothing Oud Bleu Intense from Fragrance du Bois after a horrifying encounter with some expired freeze dried tofu this afternoon.
I wanted to give it a chance and see if it was still edible and the answer was a resounding NO. Never let anyone tell you that freeze dried food doesn’t go off! It tasted like old cardboard that had been simmered in scum water, and the smell of it was little better.
Next up as I am tackling some of our Japanese pantry items is trying to bake some kinako (soy flour) flavored muffins. I can only go uphill from here! ?
LOL. I had a container of turkey that I thawed on Saturday. I did not even attempt to open the container and just chucked (thunked? ?) the whole thing. I will make split pea soup with (deli) ham sometime this week…my first time doing it.
Ugh!
Sa Majeste la Rose today — I find I’m craving luscious, pure rose scents these days since their pink-haloed beauty and open-throated joyfulness seems to cut through the gloom and the tension and the survival-modeness of our current scenario like nothing else. Hope you’re all well and comfortable!!
That sounds like a great idea Isabella.
Heeeey, friends! I am in Penhaligon’s As Sawira today for the first time and it’s LOVELY. I wore randoms things last week, which seems to be my usual these days. I just grab whatever sounds or looks good, no rhyme or reason. I do remember wearing Sensuous Nude, Wood Sage & Sea Salt, and Shalimar Light. Oh, AND BR540 which lingered on my jean jacket for days.
I enjoyed my son and his girlfriend’s visit. We mainly went to secluded beaches and walked and enjoyed the fresh air and also camped this past weekend. California really is so beautiful. I’m sad to see them go and a bit down today, but they have to get back to school (online) and such. Hoping they didn’t catch anything on the plane- they said only about 20 people on a 737 though, so plenty of distance between everyone.
Side note, I was drying my hair in the camper after hiking Friday and flipped my hair over to dry the underside. Misjudged the counter and hit my head hard enough that I almost knocked myself out! I seriously almost passed out. Looked in the mirror and had a huge gash on my forehead, as well as a HUGE knot already formed. My hubs took me to urgent care and they washed it out and glued it and bandaged it but it’s left me with quite the black eye as well. Super embarrassing! I’m telling everyone at work I had an encounter with a mountain lion-sounds much more interesting that crazy hair drying accident! Ha!
Hiya KellyC! I’m glad you had a nice visit with your son! That’s awful about your head though, I hope it heals quickly.
You’ve been smelling great ?
Ouch…glad you had a good visit with your son and his gf.
Good to hear from you KellyC!
Oh, gosh! I cringed reading that. I hope it heals nicely, but yeah, mountain lion encounter is much more glamorous, lol. Glad you got to spend time with your son!
Well crud, I really meant to comment this morning, but then I got deep into some work. I had a sudden craving for either Santal Majuscule or Jeux de Peau, and the Santal won out. I’m having fun just going with the flow of my morning cravings while focusing on perfumes I don’t wear to the office. I think delving into and enjoying my collection is an upside to this staying at home business.
Also, as I skimmed through earlier, it looks like there were a lot of us in Serge Lutens today.
How did I miss this one? The Mirror and the Light? National Doctors’ Day? Kerosene Black Vines? My favourite Monday Scent of the Day post ever! Maybe now that we’re probably not getting to Paris in June as booked I don’t have to save my perfume dollars and can finally buy my bottle of BV.
I suppose it is just possible you will make it, but yeah, wouldn’t bet on it…might as well buy something you’ll enjoy now!
For the millionth time, wishing Kerosene did travel sizes. I want BV and Unforsaken, and I think another one that I’ve forgotten.
Broken Theories, maybe? I love that one, too. And I should have bought Copper Skies when it came in the cooler, more appropriate bottle.
Yes!
And was trying to remember if I ever smelled Follow. It sounds like something I would love.
